Okay so this may seem like a stupid question but where do you get your material for tdau is there something on AO3 I missed or am I just going to stay clueless I know I got here half way through I feel like I missed something somewhere

a LOT of tdau, specifically the chronically online discourse, are references to either real life celebrities or online celebrity (and BNF) drama. especially 2021-2023 era mcyttwt drama, since it is such a bountiful well. in general, if something seems SO specific that it feels like youre missing out on an inside joke? we are probably referencing an actual event. harper is combination rcdart and puppychan, biggie is twomad, gust is lowtiergod and sapnap, zendaya is meechee

in terms of the cliva and fleek plotlines, or anything else concerning the "real" world... we arent really referencing anything specific. im sure we have ended up referencing something as a minor point but in general we kind of just go where they take us!

I have a genuine question and I don't want to so come off sounding as bitchy or anything. Like I understand you personally hate Felix but what's the big deal if other people like him? Some people just like villain characters it doesn't make them bad people by extension. You don't have to say shit like "your opinion doesn't matter" or whatever that post was

you’re fine anon! when i say “felix stans” im referring to a very specific bunch of people, not people who like felix, or even just like villains in general. 

(yikes sorry anon this ask got really long so a cut)

felix stans are generally people who admit to deeply relating to and projecting onto felix, and while relating to and projecting onto characters is fine in of itself (i personally relate to wash and will project onto him from time to time!) when someone says that they relate to a character like felix, who is a canonical narcissistic liar, manipulator, murderer, and abuser, basically your textbook sociopath its.....sketchy to say the least. 

that’s not my main problem with felix stans though, my main problems with felix stans are:

they ship lolix, and in doing so they romanticize, sexualize, and idealize the abuse felix put locus through as his abuser. as an abuse survivor im extremely against anything that so much as even hints to showing abuse in a positive light. im extremely against it because fiction does impact reality, but thats a conversation for another time.

they usually romanticize, sexualize, and idealize other forms of abuse and morally wrong and harmful content such as rape, pedophilia, incest, and others in addition to the above under the excuses of “im coping!!! uwu” and “its just fiction it cant hurt people!” which is complete bullshit. if fiction cannot hurt people, fiction cant help people either, so graphically writing and drawing about the so called “trauma” that they have “suffered” through, especially in a positive way where they have people commenting about how sexy it is and how it makes them all hot and bothered is in no way helping them “cope” with it. (i put trauma, suffered, and cope in quotation marks because i believe a majority of the people who do the above haven't actually been through the trauma they claim they have, and they just want to use the “im coping” card as a way to avoid the criticism and consequences of their gross art and fic) 

they take anything anyone says that is even just barely alluding to being negative about felix, including jokes, as if you just told them you killed their pet. the first example im going to give involved a friend, who is trans for the record, making a joke post involving felix. in the tags of the post he explicitly states that its a joke and that he was making fun of the way cis artists often draw trans characters and in specific was referencing rcdart or whatever their url was, who is known for drawing ridiculously and fetishy proportions when it comes to trans characters. the post itself was a picture of felix as he appears in s14 with a filter applied that gave him comically large hips, and the image was captioned with something like “my trans felix hc!! heart emoji heart emoji” the 2nd example is my own experience involving a felix stan, and im going to give some background information that you can read here* because this ask is already long, but a tldr; i made a badly worded post dissing white content creators but it came off as racist and in specific had a diss about felix in it. despite apologizing and later clarifying what i had really been trying to say I was continuously harassed by a felix stan and all of said felix stans friends (all of whom are 21+) because of that harassment, irl events at the time, and stress from previous harassment i had a breakdown and the event traumatized me. just talking about the event is triggering for me as it has me on the verge of tears and my heart has been racing for about an hour and a half now.

talkin’ ‘bout ships/character pairings/character portrayal(feel free to add!)

Here are some of my thoughts on shipping people/characters together:

It’s perfectly okay to ship yourself with a character as long as you’re being safe about it.

It’s perfectly okay to enjoy a ship others don’t.

It’s perfectly okay to not like a ship that someone else does.

It is 𝙣𝙤𝙩 okay to attack others for what they ship.

It is 𝙣𝙤𝙩 okay to ship real people together if they explicitly state not to. (you wouldn’t like it it you were shipped/paired with someone you don’t like and/or don’t feel that way about, would you?)

It is 𝙣𝙤𝙩 okay to force what you like onto others.

If someone is portraying a character as they are in canon, that’s their choice.

If someone is portraying a character in an out of character(OOC) way and/or a way you don’t, that’s their choice

It is 𝙣𝙤𝙩 okay to police others’ portrayals of fictional characters. If you’re thinking about it, consider the fact that fictional characters are moldable and that alternate universes(AUs) can and do exist.

It’s important to be respectful towards others(that goes for outside of shipping too!).

There are exceptions to some of these listed things, such as if a person is being unhealthy, hurting someone else/themselves, and/or are making a pairing that is morally wrong(I’m mostly referencing child/adult ships) it is important to point it out to them and find ways to explain why what they’re doing is not good. Don’t be violent or make threats, but instead approach the person with a clear mind and good intentions.

Comfort ships and characters are very much okay to have!! Especially when it helps you cope. But it is important to remember that not everyone feels the same about those characters and pairings.

If necessary/you’re asked about a pairing/character portrayal/etc, explain why you do the things you do with them so that way you have solid reasoning behind it that can potentially protect you from possibly hateful people. (Not saying this is 100% necessary!! I’m just giving a suggestion to prevent as much conflict as possible uwu)

You can make your OCs be whatever you want, and Mary Sues/Gary Stus are valid! They’re your character, so you do you boo!

Reference sheets/descriptions of your characters are important to help paint a full picture of your character(s), which can help others visualise what you’ve made and discover more about your creation.

OCs with little to no background are good, too! I often find myself making random characters that have no purpose other than to be in the scene/art I’ve made, haha.

Be as creative as you wanna be! Your OCs and portrayals are valid.

If your original character is from a copyrighted franchise/series/etc, such as being from the Sonic Universe, Do Not use them for profit. It will save you time, money, and from potential lawsuits. If you want to make money off your character, make edits to them so they aren’t made obvious to be from a Ⓒ'd series(trust me, this will save your rump).

The exception to the above is commissions!! I just meant for widespread production, such as books, comics, tee shirts, and other stuff like that. If the creator(s) find out, they probably wouldn’t be too happy to see a character in their universe’s/franchise’s style being used for profit with no credit towards them.

Last, but most certainly not least, it is 𝙣𝙤𝙩 okay to make transphobic/[sexuality/gender]phobic/racist/ableist/etc art of characters. It’s disrespectful and really bad. *cough*RCDArts*cough*

I will reiterate: Those are 𝗺𝘆 ᴛʜᴏᴜɢʜᴛs and ᴏᴘɪɴɪᴏɴs. You don’t have to agree!! I just wanted to put it out there so people see my stance on stuff. I have a lot more to say but I gotta do my schoolwork now :/
