I Missed You
Pairing: Oikawa x (gn!) reader

Warnings: none// reader in timeskip becomes a doctor specializing in aging/older athletes and completing necessary check-ups before a match.
Note: I tried to not tie any gender-specific nouns when describing reader.

How I think OIkawa & reader hug each other after not seeing each other in a long time.

That’s the time stamp you receive on an old friend’s text. There are only three words which the message is comprised of. When you read them aloud to yourself in the comfort of your own home, you seem to repeat them like a mantra.
‘I miss you’
Simple hope draws from this in a way that can’t be described as you stare at your screen until you ultimately lock your phone. You close your eyes for a a few minutes when your brain decides to show you a highlight reel of the activities you used to do with the sender. Learning the rules of volleyball, joining in their team jogging paths, coming to scheduled matches, accompanying him to the nurse’s office when he landed on his feet wrong, etc. He was destined to be famous, just not here at home in Japan, no. Somewhere half a world away called out to him first. Argentina was distant, far, the most you’d ever be separated and even then, the times prior were literally at the start of up schooling lives.
Unfortunately, the last memory behind the closed eyes you see is a bittersweet one: the reality your friend, confidant, (and crush) hits you. You never did want to wind up fighting with him, but for once you’d want him to fight to stay here. With you. As his best friends remind you, you’d be holding him back from his true potential ever since he started practicing with the collegiate teams up the road from where you live—this was where the initial rift began to be drawn between you two.
During lunch one day, you visit his classroom, sitting next to him explaining (or rather complaining) the trouble you were having with a particular class and one of the assignments needed to be completed prior to a content exam.
“Do you ever shut up about schoolwork, yn?”
You pause, a disappointed look heavy on your brow as those within earshot suddenly fall quiet.
“I’m sorry not all of us have a righteous path carved in front of us, Tooru,” the tonality in your voice was one of annoyance. “Some of us have to work even harder to achieve our dreams other than hoping to skip town and follow in their idol’s footsteps.”
Ever since that brief conversation, you and one Oikawa Tooru, are now practically strangers come graduation day. You hear whispers via the third year rumor mill of his accomplishments and his ultimate defeat against both Shiratorizawa and Karasuno. Matches you weren’t there to show your support for, even if Iwazumi Hajime, the ace and vice captain, had invited you because, “it would be nice for him (oikawa) to see a familiar face in the crowd.”
Glancing back at Iwazumi’s moss green eyes and stoic countenance, “and if I recall, it would be nicer if I wasn’t there because it might distract him further. There are plenty of scouts heading to those matches. I’m sure he’d catch one of their eyes.”
“And if those scouts ask him to move to another country, are you really going to be ok with not saying your goodbyes when we graduate, yn?”
You aggravatedly sigh at him, muttering an annoyed, “Yes, Iwazumi-kun, even then.”
Many months later, post Oikawa's jog in the winter while watching the Karasuno v Inarizaki match, it is now springtime. You’re holding a bouquet of flowers from your parents who pose with you for pictures around the inner school gates of Aoba Josai’s campus. Your fellow classmates and club members surround you for more photos as well. This was going to be one of the final memories you have for your high school career. You were accepted into a university specializing in biomedical engineering with a strong focus on exercise science.
This was your dream, not necessarily the same path as Iwazumi’s to become an athletic trainer, no, however you had wanted to be a doctor whose focus would help restore and maintain older athlete’s bodies even post retirement. Helping those who had maybe one or two career setbacks was something which had captivated you the more you began to focus on the life sciences of your high school careers and with the help of those teachers, they had written for you a brilliant recommendations to boost your acceptance after passing the various university exams.

In your office nearly a decade later from high school graduation, sits your newest patient. He comes from Argentina, like your nurses tell you, but the rumor that he had come on a friend's recommendation is what actually piques your interest. Well, to be fair, two of your friends' personal recommendation are what causes you to raise your eyebrow. The nurse on duty that day takes his vitals as normal, asks him the routine questions before giving him the proper spiel of, "sit tight and the doctor will see you in a few minutes."
Oikawa Tooru has come home for several reasons. The only one on the top of his list is coming home for an exhibition match game he was invited to by the former captain of Nekoma and now representative of the JVA. However, when word reaches Iwazumi's camp in the national team's gym, he smirks, sending a text halfway across the world. Your name is thrown into the mix of doctors who are willing to examine older, closer to retirement age, athletes. Considering this was not how he had wanted to spend his second day back in his home country, Oikawa Tooru asks to book this appointment to get an all clear before playing the V-League exhibition match Kuroo talked him into attending.
You are reading over the file of the new patient outside of the room in the hallway. You scan over the various ticks he had made on the questionnaire along with your nurse who says that his young son looks up to Oikawa-san as a professional volleyball player.
"Repeat that one more time, Sato-san," you clear your throat when Sato-san repeats what he had said earlier.
"My son is as huge fan of Oikawa-san," he points to the name at the top of the document in your hand.
Right there, next to Sato-san, the nurse's pointer finger, is the kanji of the name of a person you thought about since your high school, university, and medical school graduation days. You clear your throat, thanking Sato for his time measuring the vitals of the next patient in the room you're about to enter.
"No prob doc," is all Sato says when he walks back to the nurse station leaving you to enter the examination room where an old flame sits.
You take a deep breath prior to knocking and entering. You open the door and you see OIkawa bent over on the examination bed, reading something on his phone. His hair is cropped shorter, his shoulders are a bit broader, his skin a bit tanner, and for lack of better words, his muscles quite filled out the rest of him. He's still humming a tune you're unfamiliar with until your shoes enters his field of vision.
"Hello Tooru," your voice causes him to freeze and immediately causes his eyes to avert away from his phone. "It's been a while."
Oikawa's coffee-colored eyes study your face and the recognition hits him like a truck. Although he is dressed in a sky blue buttoned blouse and dark jeans compared to your teal scrubs and white lab coat, he stands up, arms extended to crush you in a hug. His patient file falls to the floor when you hug him back.
You hear him for the first time since that argument long ago, voice wobbly and all, "I missed you."

Sephiroth Headcanons Asks as Survey

Sephiroth during Twilight and Dawn era, post-To Sail the Cosmos:
-1- name: Sephiroth, legally born Sephiroth Hojo. Is currently Sephiroth Jenova. Is making plans to change that to Sephiroth Strife-Fair. Or Fair-Strife; he thinks Strife-Fair sounds slightly less nonsensical and rolls off the tongue well with his first name.
-2- family: Biological family: Hojo and Lucrecia. Adopted family: Zack, Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Marlene, Denzel, and Angeal.
-3- childhood: Horrible, abusive childhood raised by mad scientists, particularly Hojo. He spent early years in Nibelheim before being removed to Midgar. He wanted a cat and found one, but Hojo took it away, turning it loose in Nibelheim. Zack now thinks that it was Fluffy’s parent or grandparent. Most likely, almost any horrible thing one can think of happened to Sephiroth with Hojo around. It is now canon that Hojo let him suffer to try to draw out his powers. Sephiroth and I don’t like to dwell on it much.
-4- voice: George Newbern, always! **melts.**
-5- face/looks: Beautiful and masculine, with insanely long eyelashes, green eyes with cat-like pupils, and the sweetest smile.
-6- hair: Knee-length silver hair, with bangs reaching past his chest.
-7- body: Highly attractive and well-sculpted, especially that chest.
-8- smell/personal scent: Whatever he last shampooed with. He likes whatever works best on his hair, even if that comes with fruity or flowery scents not normally thought of as something men would like.
-9- clothes and habits of dress: He still loves wearing black and has his coats, pants, and thigh-length boots. To go to work, he usually wears dress shoes and a white shirt ... that is always unbuttoned. No amount of Cloud telling him he should button it results in this happening.
-10- posture/physicality/movement: He has perfect posture. He walks very thoughtfully, taking everything in, his hair swishing behind him. When he runs, he leans forward a lot and often seems to bend his right arm in front of his chest. He is extremely fast and agile, a master swordsman highly skilled at fighting and jumping. He has also been known to fly even without wings.
-11- hobbies and interests: Reading, usually long, deep novels like Les Miserables and War and Peace. He loves walking and sparring, but isn’t so fond of most exercise because it reminds him of the harsh regimes Hojo put him through. He loves research and studies everything he can about Earth history, geology, science, and religion. He’s not a fan of politics, but does study them as well.
-12- skills and abilities: Swordsmanship, martial arts, hand-to-hand combat. And so many other, stranger abilities: wings, fire powers, shapeshifting, illusions, portals, mind-control, telekinesis ... and a will to live that’s so strong, he can reform his body from the atoms up if destroyed. There is not enough said about his ability to do this. Seriously, if he lived in the Star Wars universe, both Light and Dark Side users would be vying for him and the knowledge of his secrets.
-13- ideals or philosophies: Now that he’s sane again, he struggles over exactly what he really believes. His views have been challenged and upended time and time again, both when he was sane before and when he was insane. But in the end, despite all the sorrow and anguish and hurt, his desire is still to protect everyone. He believes everyone should follow their own paths in life, as long as they’re not harming others. On Gaia, he was quite agnostic, not feeling like it seemed likely there was a god. Now on Earth, he’s dealing a lot with realizing there is a God there and that he’s been welcomed to this planet despite trying to become a god on Gaia and going about it in all the wrong ways. He isn’t sure he calls himself a follower of God, mainly because he’s still grappling with wondering how God could possibly even want him for a follower.
-14- goals and intentions: He just wants to live the normal life he always longed for, happy and peaceful with his loved ones. But he also wants to learn how to better use his incredible powers to help protect, feeling that’s only just and right after all he caused in his madness.
-15- pets or feelings about animals: He likes animals, but feels awkward around them and is uncertain how to behave with them. He is extremely gentle, petting them and holding them and even talking to them. He has an Eevee named Lucy, sort of co-owned with Zack although she really is Sephiroth’s. He also lives with eight cats, most of whom love him greatly, and Zack’s chocobo Pala, who also cares about him.
-16- home/place that they live: He has a mansion in the ritzy part of Domino City with several floors. When sane, it isn’t really the home he would have chosen in one way, since he would be content with something much smaller. But in another way, he is very grateful for so much space, as it allows so many to live with him. He would not be happy living alone. When Zero Reverse eventually hits Domino City, the mansion is in an area untouched by the horror. Sephiroth leads rescue efforts and brings a lot of survivors to the mansion while everything is being sorted out.
-17- personal sense of style and decor: The house is decorated with warm colors, a lot of white and cream and beige walls, and some burgundy furniture. Zack also keeps some Christmas decor up year-round, mainly some light strands here and there. Sephiroth is fine with that for how cozy it makes things. Since he really doesn’t know how to decorate a home, he leaves a lot of it up to Zack and Aerith and Tifa. But they in turn consult him about ideas to see if he likes them.
-18- beloved or important items or property: His coat, the Masamune, and his hair. :) Of course. Nobody lets their hair grow that long without loving it, especially when it’s clear he’s taking care of it so well. Also, he treasures photographs with his loved ones, especially Zack and Cloud, and every gift they and others have given them.
-19- favorite food and eating habits: He loves almost everything. He has a big sweet tooth and likes cakes and cookies and ice cream and chocolate, all things Hojo wouldn’t let him eat. He also loves fried chicken and potatoes and pizza and lasagna and many other wonderful things like that. He eats ravenously, always like it’s the first good meal he’s had in ages. Hojo kept him on strict diets for years and he can’t get enough of being able to eat whatever he wants.
-20- love language/way they show affection: Once he’s sure it’s alright, he loves hugs and cuddles and just peacefully falling asleep cradling loved ones in his wings. Sometimes he’ll bring them out just for that purpose. He also likes forehead/top of the head kisses.
-21- fears: Losing his loved ones. Losing the happy life he finally has. Going insane again and trying to destroy Earth.
-22- favorite things: His loved ones.
-23- occupation/job: President of a large-scale tech company, currently called Jenova Corp. But he’s making plans to change the name to Strife-Fair Innovations.
-24- best memory: Safe and happy with many people who truly love him, as they all share Christmas together after his return from being stranded in the cosmos.
-25- worst memory: It would be difficult for him to pick just one as the very worst, from a pain-filled childhood to finally having love only to lose it and eventually descending into madness and insanity and committing countless atrocities. He would probably say either Nibelheim or Meteor was the very worst, however.
-26- interactions with their friends: He loves deeply and completely. He’s very touch-starved and would like to hug, but he is highly unlikely to make the first move until he is absolutely sure it’s okay. He is very thoughtful and sweet, going out of his way to choose gifts and experiences his friends will like. And he is deeply loyal, even being willing to break rules and orders for his friends’ lives. This only changes if he has been extremely, devastatingly hurt by one or more of them and he can see they no longer care about him and even are actively trying to hurt him and others. Even then, deep down he still cares about them and is heartbroken to be treated such.
-27- interactions with their enemies: He is fair and kind to his enemies, trying to spare their lives where possible and not killing out of hate. He is a negotiator and looks for non-violent solutions when he can. When it comes to enemies who really are out to get him, on the other hand, he struggles to control his feelings of anger and hate, especially if they start targeting his loved ones. He wants to find ways to get them out of his life, but when sane he will still only kill as a last resort.
-28- interactions with their lovers: He’s still figuring out friendship, lol. He doesn’t feel he’s ready for romance! That said, he may be better at it than he thinks. It’s probably very similar to how sweetly and completely he gives himself to his friendships. He’s more likely to carry romantic feelings for someone without sexual feelings being part of that, and regardless, if there’s another person in the equation and he thinks the one he loves wants to be with that other person, he will not act on his feelings. If, however, he has any thought that his feelings are returned, he will encourage the one he loves to figure out what to do with the situation concerning the other person.
-29- quirks and personal habits: He refuses to wear closed shirts. The reason why is unknown, especially when he doesn’t like being the center of attention and probably isn’t actually trying to show off his beautiful chest. Perhaps it started as a way to feel more free and not so stifled by Shinra and then became something he liked and wanted to keep doing for other reasons. He also refuses to cut his hair. He spends a long time each day brushing it, and when he washes it, it takes hours to dry it by holding it near a fan. He feels all the care he gives it is worth it.
-30- personality: Introverted and polite to those he doesn’t know or knows but isn’t close to. Deeply affectionate and loving with Zack and Cloud and his Eevee Lucy, and coming to be more this way with his other loved ones too. Has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor and sometimes makes morbid jokes about himself that others don’t really like. Thoughtful and kind and protective to all.
-31- way they are perceived by others: Most see him as introverted and aloof. In the past he was called a human glacier and there may still be some who see him that way. He is also highly powerful in the business world and some few have seen his fighting prowess. They are amazed and impressed by his talents.
-32- toxic traits: When sane, perhaps the main toxic trait is that he loves so deeply and so completely that to lose the person, or to think they’ve been irreparably harmed, absolutely tears him to shreds and he cannot cope. It can drive him to insanity if he’s pushed to his limit.
-33- redeeming qualities: His protectiveness, thoughtful kindness, and all-around sweetness.
-34- feelings about themself: He feels irreparably tainted after everything he caused and is always humbled that anyone can love him at all, and especially people he hurt as much as Cloud and Tifa and Aerith and Zack. He is determined to embrace his second chance and make a beautiful future for himself and his loved ones on Earth.

These are the pioneers who didn’t just marvel at rainbows—they dissected them, charted them, and gave us the tools to describe every shade of blush, rust, or regrettable avocado fridge. Let’s raise our color wheels and take a quick, vibrant stroll through the minds who gave color its soul, structure, and swagger.

Isaac Newton: The Prism Pioneer
We know Newton for his run-in with gravity, but the man also gave color theory its first major plot twist. In 1666, he aimed a beam of light through a prism and discovered that white light was actually a sneaky blend of colors. Voilà: the spectrum. He then arranged those hues in a circle, creating the first color wheel. Because nothing says “science” like a good pie chart.
But Newton didn’t stop at optics. He linked each color to a musical note, turning the whole thing into a 17th-century rave. It was pure Enlightenment-era maximalism. And the birth of modern color theory.

Oh no! Not the red and blue wire thing again. Grogu had tried to explain to the Mandalorian that red and blue were archaic terms and that the proper designation for them were 700 nm and 400 nm respectively. That’s what the Jedi learned and if it was good for the Jedi it was good for a Mandalorian foundling.
But apparently the Mandalorians hadn’t been big on science and defining things specifically to avoid confusion and conflict, which was a pity. They probably would have had a much easier time with everything if that had been part of their cultural focus.
Instead, they said things like ‘No, the red one. Show me the red one.” Why would Grogu need to show the bounty hunter the red wire? Did his sensor array in his helmet wash all the colors out to shades of grey? It sure seemed like it.
Grogu had been over this territory before. Each of those wires had a precise function and Din Djarin didn’t seem to know what they were. Just like their colors were precise visible light spectrum waves that reflected at specific frequencies. Meaning the red wire looked red because that was the frequency of light that was visible to human eyes when it bounced off the wire. Grogu found that all fascinating and wondered if one day he could do an eye test and figure out how many more frequencies of light he saw when compared to the Mandalorian or even an average human.
He wondered this because the Mandalorian sometimes asked him to pass him ‘blue’ things, when only purple things were present with green or red things. How did you end up thinking purple was blue?
Grogu also know that some people had very different vision from each other within a population. Not all Iktotchi saw the same set of visible wave lengths. Another fascinating difference between peoples and another good reason to the call the input wire to the navigational analyzer pre-processor the ‘input wire to the navigational analyzer pre-processor’. An Iktotchi would just shrug at you if you even bothered with ‘No, the red one.”
Grogu understood why he was making the repair. The Mandalorian didn’t like droids and mechs and was too big to do the work in the cramped systems control chase. Grogu figured it would work out fine until he began to realize that the bounty hunter didn’t know his system inputs from his system outputs. He’d given the tall man more than one chance to reflect on his decisions to no avail. Oh well.
Precise communication was really important but if you can’t communicate in a concise manner, than you just had to make do. Sometimes the results would be fine and other times you’d find yourself zapped from cross-wiring something that had been wired incorrectly to begin with, no doubt because the last people who had touched the thing had said ‘Connect the blue wire, no the other blue wire’, to a person who couldn’t even process a light wave of that frequency.
Since that whole thing hadn’t really made any difference to how the Razor Crest worked, Grogu was surprised that the Mandalorian had wasted any time on it. They had much more important work to do on the preserver because Grogu’s frogs were thawing out too quickly and he’d had to chase at least one of them all through the cargo bay before he managed to catch it and eat it. Sure it was delicious, but he hadn’t expected to exercise before breakfast.
The Mandalorian had complained about the frogs being loose, but again was too big to help Grogu round them up when they hopped under the weapons locker, behind the various attachments in the privy and under the work bench. Even the one near Din’s boot had been a problem and Grogu had pointed at it, explained that it was there and even said, “It’s a Sorgan frog. You know a blue one.” But apparently his dad was only concerned about red things. Uff.

Surrounded by books in a well-trafficked bookstore, I sat down to coffee with a former student. We’ve been meeting this way for many years. By now, he is in his early 70s while I am staring down at 87. Happily, we are both in robust health, and I always look forward to our conversations, particularly on that day as he’d recently returned from a year in Japan. As he related his experiences about life aboard, I noted he spoke in a booming voice as though his words needed to carry to the back of a large hall. As we were seated at a pedestal table no more than 3 feet apart, I took exception. “Why are you yelling at me? I can hear you perfectly well.” My companion paused, his features creased in a puzzled expression. “I’m sorry. I thought you might be hard of hearing.” He was right in his assumption. I am hard of hearing which is why I wear earbuds that are as expensive as diamonds but without the glamor. At 104, my mother could hear a fly drop on a marshmallow at twenty paces. Sadly, I follow in my father’s footsteps. His hearing loss began in his 50s. Even so, he refused to see a doctor and seemed to delight in forcing friends and family to shout at him. Rejecting his example, I take pity on those around me and wear my hearing aids when I’m in public. The doctor says I should wear them all the time, but they make my ears itch. In any case, my point about the difference between my mother and father makes one thing clear. People don’t age in the same way. Hopefully, my mother’s genes will bestow a long and healthy life on me but science gives me no assurance. Genes, they say, have a 10-35% influence on longevity. The rest depends on diet and exercise. Those born at the tag end of the Baby Boomers and the generations that followed probably see 80-somethings as prehistoric. Born before the advent of television, we are folks presumed to live in the shadows, figures bent like candy canes who shuffle about unobtrusively with the aid of wheelchairs, walkers, or canes. Would it surprise them to learn that Helen Mirren, age 78 and two years younger than President Joe Biden, made 5 films this year? (“Up/front Watch,” AARP, Aug/Sept. 2023, pg. 12.) Or, that in his two years in office, Biden has fulfilled so many campaign promises historians predict he will be remembered as one of the country’s ablest presidents? Marjorie Taylor Greene, Georgia’s Republican member of Congress, disagrees with that assessment. She roots for Donald Trump, age 77, to win the 2024 Presidential election. Not only blind to Trump’s age, his previous presidential failures, and the many court indictments pending against him, she insists a higher power works in his favor. God has plans much bigger than this. (“They Said What?” FreeTought Today, September 2030, pg. 2) If the past is a prelude to the future, I shudder to think what these plans may be. True, a significant swathe of the country shares Greene’s view. Like her, they don’t have the force of the pulpit behind them, but they claim to know God’s will and are determined by means fair or foul to convert the rest of us to their religiosity. They proselyte on social media, shout their hallelujahs over public school and prison speakers (Ibid pgs. 5-6), as well at sporting events–any place where they find a captive audience. Nature thrives on diversity, but their God demands conformity. With each book banned from a school or library, these zealots celebrate– as if free will and free thought were worthy of a public hanging. By degrees, their successes rob the world of color. Once invention, imagination, and originality become exiles, we find ourselves confined to a grey pallet– a place of shadows where fear and hatred are free to spin their mischief. The average lifespan for our species is 74 years. Measured in days, that represents 272,000 sunrises. Compare this number to the life of our sun which will burn another 4. 57 billion years. Given the contrast between it and ourselves, a question arises. Can we afford to be profligate with our brief hour upon the stage? Whether young or old, rather than busying ourselves judging others, we’d do better to contemplate our common destiny and how our actions make either heaven or hell of the earth. The journey each of us takes may be private, yet we know it has public consequences. A good rule of thumb might be to consider looking inward and holding ourselves accountable for the good or ill we do.
