Just One Glance

Synopsis: Set a few months after the events of the Secrets of the Scroll, and years before the events of the first Kung Fu Panda film, The Furious Five make their official debut as the new protectors of the Valley of Peace. Po, not really knowing who they are but remembers seeing them when they fought Boar together, and having enough memory to carve their action figures out of wood, sees them presented to society for the first time as masters. He is in awe of their skills and awesomeness, but one young Tigress catches his eye. 

If the events of Secrets of the Scroll was about the day Po fell in love with Kung Fu, then this is about the day he started crushing on Tigress.

Based on a short script I wrote a couple years ago (or longer, I can’t remember.) You can feel free to read the script here on FF.net.

I have been wanting to create a comic or animatic for this for a long time to get it out of my head, and I finally had some time to work on it over a weekend (emphasis on 'some'), so it’s not perfect, but enough to get the idea across lol. I can’t do voices, so had to add subtitles, but if anyone is interested in adding a voice over for these characters, let me know lol. 😂 Took some liberties, too, but I hope you KFP/TiPo fans enjoy nonetheless! 🐼 🐯 🍜

This is a lot different from my usual work, but my partner wanted me to draw young tigress after we watched secrets of the scroll and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a pass at the short's artstyle. It's far from perfect but I'm genuinely super happy with it! Tigress is so adorable in secrets of the scroll. I really want a spinoff about her and the furious five. Dreamworks please!

Random thing abt KFP shipping (TiPo specifically)

So a friend brought up that KFP shipping is a thing and I've fallen headfirst into the rabbit hole and began gobbling up as much KFP media outside the films as I could, starting by rewatching the secrets of the furious five. Then I saw Secrets of the Scroll bc somehow i hadnt seen it yet. And I've been getting little bits and pieces of TiPo scattered throughout the various pieces of media, including (but not limited to)

Rivals dynamics in KFP 1 clearly used to establish ships

The entire thing with Tigress being way protective of Po in KFP 2 (we see she treats Po differently than her other friends in the Five, Crane points it out)

Po and Tigress' whole deal in KFP3

Mei mei immediately assumes they're partners

Po doesn't feel that up to being flirted with by mei mei

Also. I forgot but when Po's taking his bubble bath he imitates Tigress calling him handsome so do with that what you will

Other note but during secrets of the furious five Tigress' story is the only one that makes Po cry, probably bc it's one of the more emotionally sad ones but still

So how does secrets of the scroll play into this? Well Po mentions that he made the action figures the day he fell in love with Kung Fu. And the specific scene that happens, the crew gave him heart eyes. Now to me this is either one of two options. 1) The animators needed a way to clearly communicate passion and chose hearts bc of that, which is probably the option that makes the most sense. Or 2) someone on the crew ships it and gave po heart eyes bc there are like a bajillion other visual solutions to show passion and falling for a craft yet they specifically chose hearts.

It is kinda heartbreaking to see that Tigress was sweet and shy and soft and awkward and insecure both as a little girl and as a teenager, and she lost those traits for a while under Shifu's strict parenting.
