Thank you for taking my request!! I loved it and if you’re willing to do another one for Kaz, could you write Kaz headcanons about his crush aka reader getting injured on a heist because of an accidentally mishap by Jesper? Thank you either way!!
Oops?, Kaz Brekker
Injured s/o might be my favorite trope. Got a bit carried away while writing. Sorry in advance.
Headcanons, genderneutral s/o
Tw: Angst, descriptions of a fight, being smashed into a wall, blood, injuries, stabwound, concussion….basically the whole shebang. Shooting, killing, breaking someone’s bones, Jesper did an oops, passing out, worried Kaz (that’s new), throwing up, Kaz touches hands with reader. That seems like enough, don’t you think?
- This job wouldn’t even be that difficult or complicated. All you had to do, was to steal a key for a heist that would occur at the same evening. It was a small pickpocket job. One that Kaz could’ve easily done if he hadn’t been busy helping Wylan get hold to a bunch of bombs.
- So there you stood, with Jesper, in the middle of a busy street. The people were swarming around you, but it would only make the job of stealing easier. Jesper’s job had been to distract the victim as you slid past him, grabbing the key from his pocket. Jesper had even gotten lined from Kaz to ensure that he wouldn’t screw up.
- “There he is.” Jesper had announced, pointing towards a man with an awfully obvious mustache, walking towards the pair of you. You quickly separated from Jesper before the target would see you. Just then, you fellow crow put on his disguise as a lost boy.
- “Excuse me,” he had started, walking up to the confused man. “but do you happen to know where the docks are? I fear I’ve gotten myself lost a bit.”
- You rolled your eyes at Jesper’s attempt of appearing lost. If you had not known him, you would’ve perhaps believed him, but right now, it was just stupid to look at.
- You found yourself placed on the other side of the street, behind the man. Without attracting too much attention to yourself, you walked along with the crowd, now approaching his back. With a quick hand, you fished something out of his pockets, walking away just as quick as you had approached. Your steps not wavering.
- But just then, a second voice was heard; “That does not belong to you, girl.”
- You did not stop your pace, only speeding up a bit, but not too much, just in case the speech had not been directed towards you.
- But it had been.
- You see….Jesper had been talking to the wrong person. It was another man with a big mustache, but not the one he should’ve been looking for. You however, had found the right man, but now, there was no distraction.
- Suddenly, you got grabbed by your arm, being dragged into a side-alley. Quickly, you feigned a confused expression, turning towards the man, pretending to speak another language.
- “It doesn’t matter what language you speak; you have something that belongs to me.” At those words, he held up the key you were looking for.
- “This is what you wanted, wasn’t it?” Looking down towards your hand, you found a blunt piece of metal, the same weight and size as a key, but not so much the shape of one. It had been a decoy.
- “Who sent you, girl?” He question, taking a threatening step towards you. You didn’t move one step. Instead, you fiddled with the metal, trying to find a sharp piece to attack him with, but when you found none, disappointment struck you.
- “I asked you a question, dear.” With that, you dropped the metal, punching the man in his face. It worked, but only for a minute. He wavered but came to his senses as quickly as it went.
- From behind you, someone pinned your arms, throwing you towards the nearest wall. The man had been expecting this and had even gotten back-up. And Jesper was still talking to a random civilian, probably wondering why you haven’t shown up yet.
- The impact with the wall caused the air to leave your lungs, the back of your head hitting the concrete. A loud ringing had filled your ears, leaving you incapable of hearing anything else at the moment. But you were smart. Rolling away quickly, you pulled the man down to the floor.
- Climbing over him, you grabbed one of the knives Inej had so kindly gifted you once. Without hesitation, you plunged it into his neck, ensuring he wouldn’t attack you anymore.
- You hadn’t been given time to get back up. A sharp pain suddenly filled your side, the feeling as if a cut brick had been thrown against it.
- “You’re not the only one with knives on you.” The target growled, now kneeling down to come face to face with you. Your vision became blurry. Whether that was because of your earlier impact with the wall or the blood seeping out from your body, you didn’t know.
- “I don’t need knives.” You managed to get out, grabbing the man’s hand that held onto the dagger, pushing his pinky back, effectively breaking it.
- While he fell back in pain, you crawled away from the scene, trying to stay hidden. With your current state, defense was something that would only slow more over time. From corner of your eye, you saw the target getting back up, but he fell down the moment both feet touched the ground, a loud bang following his fall.
- “Saints, Kaz is never going to live this one down.” A familiar voice mumbled, quickly nearing you. “You stay awake or we’ll both be in big trouble, okay?”
- No answer came out of you. The spinning in your head made you nauseous beyond belief. You had already started to lean down, feeling the vomit coming up. The last thing you remembered were Jesper’s hands holding your hair back while you threw the nausea out.
- You had woken up in your own room a few hours later. Your waist had been covered in bandages while semi-wet towel rested beside your head, which had probably fallen off during your sleep. Nina’s perfume hung in the air, letting you knew she had been here not too long ago.
- As your eyes tried focusing on the room, a sting hit your side, causing you to turn over and grunt in annoyance.
- “Don’t move. We just changed the bandages.”
- The voice made you freeze, halting your movements to your side, instead laying back down. You had expected Nina or Inej to be here, maybe even Jesper, but not Kaz.
- “And don’t think too much or try to talk. You’ve suffered a heavy concussion.” If your eyes could’ve allowed you to roll them, you would have. But it hurt like hell at the moment, so you deemed it wise to not use them too much.
- “Would you rather I fall back asleep?” You mumbled teasingly, yet the sound of sleep did come off as appealing. Passing out was not like sleeping at all. You felt exhausted, but you could not pass an opportunity to annoy Kaz.
- “That would be wise, yes.” Was his simple response. You slowly turned your head towards his voice, scanning your surroundings at his side of the room.
- “Tough luck, Brekker.” He did not respond to that comment. You took it as a sign to continue; “Did Jesper get the key?”
- “Along with three weeks of cleaning duty, yes.”
- When silence overtook the room once again, he slowly reached for your hand, placing his on top of yours before linking your thumbs together. The entire action left you frozen, scared to move even the slightest bit.
- “Go to sleep. You need to recover. We’ll talk tomorrow.” Was all he said, before slumping back in his seat on the chair beside you, his hand not once straying for yours.
- The need to annoy him had now completely subsided and had instead been replaced with the annoying feeling of bubbles in your stomach. That tickling feeling that was nowhere near funny, but could only make you stop your train of thought.
- Perhaps it was best for you to close your eyes. You mission had succeeded and judging on Kaz’ comments, so had the heist at the same evening. You were too tired to ask how long you were out and whether the heist succeeded or not. You started to obey Kaz’s command, closing your eyes, focusing on the feeling of Kaz’s hand on yours, no gloves or piece of fabric separating you. It was just you and him. And for now, that was enough.

Kisses
A/N: Okay, so let’s pretend that Bucky didn’t blip 😉 That is the job I am trusting you with as you read this, dear reader (especially during a certain part, but you’ll get there when you get there) Also, please ignore my lack of original concepts, as I am well aware that I used this similar concept for a Shawn fic a while back (I promise this version is quite different and much better written) Anyways, happy reading! :)
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Fem Avenger!Reader
Summary: Different types of kisses throughout you and Bucky’s relationship
Word Count: 4.3k+ (oof, much longer than I intended. Sorry, friends!)
Warnings: Swearing, reader gets stabbed, mentions of blood, mentions of pregnancy, (brief) mention of death (nobody actually dies)
---
The First Kiss
It was quiet as the two of you walked down the hallway, save for the occasional sounds of Bucky’s boots scuffing on the linoleum. Whether it was because you didn’t want to wake up anyone else in the compound this late at night or because there was nothing left to say, you weren’t sure.
After months of longing looks and nervous conversations (and a bit of pushing from Steve), Bucky finally found the courage to ask you out on a date. He made it a whole ordeal, even bringing flowers when he asked if you wanted to grab some sandwiches from a nearby deli and eat them at the park. You would be lying if you said you hadn’t been waiting to hear those words for a while now and told him you’d be happy to. Your shy smile made Bucky’s insides melt and he found himself mirroring one back at you.
Now, your third date--a midnight hike through a trail you suggested--was coming to an end.
“Can I walk you back to your room?” Bucky broke the silence, chewing his lip nervously as he awaited your answer.
“Your room is right across the hall from mine. Aren’t you going that way anyways?” you giggled.
“Let me be a gentleman,” he insisted as you rounded the corner of the hallway that led to your rooms.
“I mean, how can I say no to that?”
“I don’t think you can.” His signature smirk and charm had you melting and you stared at the floor in hopes that he wouldn’t see the obvious ways he affected you.
The two of you arrived at your door almost too soon, and you found yourself wishing that your night together wasn’t over quite yet.
“I had a great time with you, Bucky.” You turned to fully face him, looking up shyly into his eyes.
He took one of your hands with his, bringing it up to his lips. “I did too, Y/N. We should do it again.”
“The date or getting eaten alive by mosquitoes?”
“The mosquitos were endearing but I was more so thinking of another date.”
“I’d like that.” You squeezed his hand before letting go, pushing your door open and taking a step forwards before Bucky’s hand grabbed your wrist. He gently spun you back towards him, his charm suddenly replaced by a more timid look.
“Um, can I . . . would you let me . . .” he glanced down to your lips. “Can I kiss you?”
You didn’t respond, simply placing your free hand on his cheek and leaning towards him. His hands both went to wrap around your waist as your lips brushed and your other hand came to rest on his chest. The kiss was slow and soft. There was no need to rush as you stood there in the hallway at 1:45 in the morning, wrapped around each other like you couldn’t let go.
You finally broke away, feeling Bucky’s chest steadily rise beneath your palm as you calmed your own breathing. You tried to play it cool on the outside, though you were screaming with glee internally.
“Goodnight, Bucky.” You slowly slipped out of his grasp, a twinkle in your eyes that hadn’t been there before.
“Goodnight, Y/N.”
The Welcome Home Kiss
Your eyelids seemed to droop more by the second as you tried to keep yourself awake. The caffeine you had earlier could only do so much to curb the sleepiness that was settling in your bones. The fact that you were sitting in your bed at the moment probably wasn’t helping, but you were too tired to move.
Waiting up for Bucky seemed like a good idea until it was 2:30 in the morning and he still wasn’t back. He would probably scold you when he got back, saying how sleep deprivation didn’t look good on you, but you didn’t care. You hadn’t seen your boyfriend in a week and you missed him. If you had to pull an all-nighter to do so, so be it.
The sound of footsteps outside your door pulled you from your thoughts. It only took a second to recognize the familiar clunking of Bucky’s combat boots, causing you to perk up as you waited for him to peek into your room.
The footsteps paused outside your door for a moment and you held your breath in anticipation. The door didn’t open though, and the footsteps became fainter, presumably walking away from your room.
Does he think I’m asleep? You frowned. Usually, he at least opened the door to check in on you.
You pulled the blanket off your body, getting out of bed and padding out of your room towards Bucky’s. You did your best to stay quiet as you twisted the door knob in case he was already asleep. It wasn’t uncommon for him to pass out as soon as his head met the pillow after a mission. Lord knows he needed the rest.
You were met with an empty room when you peeked your head in. You almost left, assuming that your excited mind had been playing tricks on you, when you caught sight of light peeking out from beneath the bathroom door. A smile crept its way onto your face and you closed the door behind you, sitting on the edge of his bed and waiting for him to come out.
A few more minutes passed and you debated just letting yourself fall asleep there when the bathroom door swung open. Bucky stepped out, wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt that you had tried to steal on multiple occasions. He didn’t notice you until he was almost to his bed and lifted his gaze from the floor, jumping back with a “shit!” when he saw you.
“What are you doing up, doll?” he asked once he regained his composure.
“Waiting for you,” you replied simply, pulling him into a hug as soon as he sat down next to you. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
You pulled back just enough to press your lips against his, relishing the languid movements of his lips against yours at the absurd hour of the morning. His arms traveled down to your hips as yours moved to wrap around his neck.
“Welcome home, sergeant.”
The Fevered Forehead Kiss
You were burning up.
The sweat drenched shirt you were wearing was sticking to your body and the fact that Bucky, AKA: the walking furnace, was laying next to you, wasn’t helping in the slightest. His arm was slung over your back, which made your situation that much worse. He seemed to be sleeping peacefully: a rarity with him. Moving out of bed was sure to wake him up but you really needed to change your shirt.
You sighed, deciding that you needed to get into some dryer clothes if you had any hopes of falling back asleep before the sun rose. Prying yourself from Bucky’s grip as carefully as possible, you swung your feet over the edge of the bed and stood up. A wave of dizziness overcame you, forcing you to brace yourself against the wall. A quiet groan escaped your lips when the dizziness started getting worse rather than fading away. Your vision started to tunnel: a surefire sign that you were going to pass out.
A pair of arms wrapped around you and Bucky’s face came into view. He gently eased you back onto the bed, supporting your back as he layed you back down. You felt a hand brush over your cheek as the dizziness faded and your senses returned.
Bucky frowned at how warm your cheek felt beneath his touch. You were feeling a little warm when he carried you to bed after a group game night--of which you had fallen asleep halfway through--but he didn’t think much of it then. He smoothed some hair back from your forehead and rested his lips there to better judge your temperature.
“Shit, doll. You’re burning up,” he murmured.
“It’s really hot in here.” Sleep was clawing at you but you were uncomfortable beyond belief. “I need to change my shirt.”
Bucky silently helped you out of the shirt you were wearing, throwing it in the hamper before shuffling over to the dresser to get you another one. He grabbed the first one he saw, making his way back over to where you were laying and helping you into it.
“Get some sleep, sweetheart,” he said as he pressed his lips to your forehead once more. “I’ll be right here.”
The “Shut Up!” Kiss
The Quinjet was filled with chatter as the team headed back to the compound after a successful mission. You managed to get the intel you needed and nobody got hurt in the process--well, nobody except you, but no one needed to know that.
You managed to get yourself stabbed in the right bicep when you were making your way back to the jet. It wasn’t horribly severe, it just hurt like a bitch. You were quick to take care of the Hydra agent and keep moving, knowing the team was going to want to get back to the compound as quickly as possible to celebrate. Missions without some kind of injury were a rarity with you guys.
You just assumed that you’d wait until you got to the compound and stitch yourself up there without anyone knowing. Seemed easy enough of a plan, right?
“Hey, doll,” Bucky said as he sat down in the seat to your left with a kiss to your cheek.
“Hey, babe.” You leaned your head on his shoulder, snuggling into the warmth radiating off of him.
“I’m so ready to get in bed.”
“You said it.”
You were able to block out the pain coming from your arm for a moment, allowing yourself to relax in your boyfriend’s presence instead. That was, until Bucky’s arm came up to wrap around your shoulders. You winced when his hand brushed over your wound, cursing internally when you felt him stiffen up next to you. Of course he was going to find out.
He pulled his hand back, seeing it covered in red. “Is that blood?”
“Yes but that doesn’t matter right now. You know what does matter? Getting to bed cause you look-” You sat up, rubbing your hand over the wound yourself, finding that there was significantly more blood there now than there was earlier.
“You are literally bleeding right now!” He raised his voice slightly and you glared at him, not wanting to draw attention to the situation.
“I know but-”
“I love you but if you shut the fuck up right now, Y/N-”
“Buck-”
Bucky grabbed your face, quickly bringing your lips to his. “You are going to stop talking and let me take care of this, okay? No ifs, ands, or buts. I don’t wanna hear ‘em.” His voice was stern but you could see the concern in his eyes.
“Okay,” you sighed, dropping your eyes to your lap.
“Now let me see your arm so we can fix you up.”
The Top of the Head Kiss
“You don’t think it’s too soon, do you?” Bucky asked Steve as they sat in the kitchen. It was early on a Thursday morning, when everyone else was either asleep or doing an early morning workout. The two super soldiers had already finished their daily morning run and decided to enjoy a cup of coffee in the kitchen before the rest of the team showed up.
“Buck, I thought you were going to propose after the fifth date. You’ve been together for almost two years. I think it’s about time,” Steve answered with a chuckle, enjoying the bashful look on his best friend’s face.
“I just wanna do it right, you know?” Bucky bit the inside of his cheek as he contemplated the right way to propose for what was probably the thousandth time. “I know she doesn’t want something that’s so romantic it’s cheesy but I want it to be special.”
“I’m sure you’ll figure it out.” Steve patted Bucky’s arm as he got up to put his mug in the sink. “You know she’s going to say ‘yes’ no matter what.”
“Yeah, I know. It’s just scary trying to-”
“Morning boys.” Your groggy voice rang through the kitchen, causing Steve and Bucky to immediately shut up.
“You’re up early, sweetheart,” Bucky commented as you made your way over to him.
“Thought I’d be productive today.” You ran a hand through his hair, still unruly from his run, before placing your lips on top of his head. “Whatcha’ guys talking about?”
Steve and Bucky shared a panicked look. “Uhh . . . super secret boy band stuff.” Bucky’s hands made their way to your hips, fingers messing with the hem of your shirt.
“Ohh, okay. Let me just grab my breakfast and then I’ll let you plan your little boyband stuff.” You ruffled Bucky’s hair and busied yourself with making a bagel, winking at him before leaving the kitchen.
“You better hurry up,” Steve chuckled. “Cause she’s gonna figure out what you’re doing soon if you don’t.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Bucky grumbled. “I’m working on it.”
The Passionate Kiss
“I’m so hungry!” you complained as you took your suit off, having just returned from a mission. You weren’t able to eat lunch earlier and your stomach was making sure you knew just how much it did not appreciate that.
“We stocked up the fridge yesterday so you should be good to go,” Bucky said from his place on the edge of the bed. His eyes stayed glued on you as you slipped on a pair of shorts and one of his Henleys.
You smiled brightly at his words and made your way over to him, giving a quick peck to his temple and grabbing his hand. “Care to join me?”
“Course, doll.” He stood up and followed you out of your shared room, wrapping an arm around you and pulling you into his side as you walked to the kitchen. Everything was going according to plan.
The mission you just came back from? It was fake. You didn’t know that of course, but Bucky had Steve and Tony help him set it up so he could get ready for what he was planning on doing tonight without you either finding out or getting overly suspicious. What was he planning on doing, exactly? Proposing. He was finally going to propose tonight.
You and Steve were sent out on an undercover “mission” in which you had to pretend to be a couple in order to attend a ball and gather intel on a possible new Hydra branch. Bucky wasn’t quite sure how Tony managed to set the whole thing up, but he decided not to bother himself with the logistics. There were more important issues at hand.
He patted his pocket as you parted from his side to grab plates. Yup, the ring was still there.
“Why don’t I get the plates and you grab what you want from the fridge, sweetheart?” he suggested.
“Oh no, I got the plates. You grab whatever you think is good. I’ll eat whatever.” You took two plates out of the cabinet and made your way to the table, your back to the fridge.
This is going to be harder than he anticipated.
In his debate to decide the perfect way to propose to you, Bucky somehow came to the conclusion that the best way to ask you to be his future wife was by spelling out “Will you marry me?” on the refrigerator with a bunch of magnets. A picture of the two of you from when you first started dating was placed next to it with a heart magnet, and Bucky was pretty proud of himself for the idea. He forgot, of course, that you could be a little oblivious sometimes when it came to noticing things.
No need to stress about it. She’ll notice eventually.
Bucky grabbed some things from the fridge, microwaving a few before bringing them over to the table and sitting down in the seat next to yours. “Bon appetit!”
“¡Muchas gracias, señor!” You smiled, already dumping a few things onto your plate and digging in.
“That was a completely different language,” he chuckled.
“And?”
He shrugged his shoulders. “Tell me ‘bout the mission.”
“It was alright,” you said through a mouthful of food. You swallowed before continuing. “I don’t know why they sent Steve with me instead of you. You’d think that since we had to pretend to be a married couple, they’d have me go with my boyfriend.” Damn, Tony really didn’t try to be that subtle, did he?
“Yeah, strange . . .”
“Anyways, it was pretty easy. I didn’t even have to go to a debriefing!” You put some more food on your plate, noticing that Bucky had barely touched his. “You okay? You’ve hardly eaten.” You motioned towards his plate.
“Hmm? Oh, I ate before you got home so I’m not that hungry.” It wasn’t entirely a lie. He ate, just not a lot to be considered a meal. Nerves.
“Uh huh.” You gave him a weird look as you took a bite of food. “You’re up to something.”
“Me? Up to something? Never.” He watched you finish your food and sit back with a satisfied groan.
“Okay, sure.” You gave him a playful glare as he took your plates and got up to put them in the sink. You grabbed the leftover food and containers, and put them in the sink, nudging Bucky’s hip with yours.
“You trying to start something, doll?” he asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Maybe I am.” You looked back at him, completely missing the colorful magnets on the fridge yet again as you opened it and put the food back inside. Your hand caught the ‘W’ when you tried to take your hand off of the refrigerator handle, causing it to fall off and clink on the ground.
“Ill you marry me?” you read off the fridge, a confused laugh escaping your mouth. “What?”
Bucky playfully shook his head. He walked over to you, picking up the fallen magnet and putting it back in its place. He leaned against the fridge as he watched you read the phrase again.
“Buck, are you being serious?” Your eyes lit up, though there was a hint of hesitance in your voice.
“I don’t know, you tell me.” He pulled the black velvet case out of his pocket, getting down to one knee.
Your hand slapped over your mouth, trying to contain the squeal of joy threatening to jump out. “Bucky!”
He flipped the lid open. “Y/N Y/L/N, will you marry me?”
You bit your lips together, nodding your head vigorously. “Yeah. I think I’ll marry you, Bucky Barnes.”
Bucky stood up and you grabbed his face, crashing your lips onto his. It was messy but perfect for the moment. Your heart was beating a million times a minute but you paid it no mind as you tried to pull Bucky even closer.
“I love you,” you said once you pulled away for breath. Your eyes watered as you tried to keep tears from falling.
He leaned back in to slot his lips between yours again. “I love you too.”
The Relieved Kiss
Bucky wasn’t sure what exactly to expect when he rushed out with the team to find Captain Marvel lowering down a giant ship in front of the compound, but nothing could have prepared him for what he was about to see.
He’d been a mess since Thanos snapped away half the universe. Unbeknownst to him, you were up in space when the battle happened, leaving him to assume that you had dusted away with the millions of others and left him behind to pick himself up.
While Bucky suffered in his own personal hell down on Earth, you were stranded in a broken spaceship with Tony and Nebula. Up until your rescue, you were sure that you were going to die up there, staring into the void of space. You recorded a message for Bucky after Tony recorded his for Pepper in hopes that it would someday make it back to him. Then Captain Marvel came to save you and bring you back to Earth; to bring you back home.
Bucky ran up with Steve to help Tony, supporting the man who looked like he’d been to hell and back a few times. He stepped aside once Pepper ran up, choking on his own breath when he looked back to the steps of the ship.
You held onto Nebula’s arm as you slowly stumbled down the stairs. Bucky let out a sob at the sight of you, immediately rushing up to help you. You felt so fragile in his arms and it took everything in him to not collapse to the ground in shock, not sure if it was relief that you were alive or horror at your condition
He held you to his chest as tightly as he could once you made it to solid ground, his vibranium arm holding you up by your waist while his flesh hand held your head to his chest.
“Oh my god,” was all he could say as he stood there, body shaking as he cried
“Hey, I’m okay.” Your hand shook as it came up to weakly pat his shoulder. He could tell you were completely out of it: eyes distant and mind barely there. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone approaching, ready to help get you to med bay.
He pressed his lips to the crown of your head, gently rocking you back and forth in his arms. “You’re alive.”
You tried to pull back in his grip, forcing him to loosen it slightly. “I love you.” You leaned up to kiss his lips, though it ended up being more of a brush of your lips than an actual kiss.
“I love you too, sweetheart.” He kissed your hairline, scared that kissing your lips would steal more oxygen away--something you desperately needed more of in your system right now. “You’re gonna be okay.”
The “Holy Shit!” Kiss
You weren’t sure how much longer you could keep it a secret. You were sure he would’ve figured it out by now: the sticks in the trash, the sudden avoidance of certain foods you would usually never pass up, the second heartbeat that now accompanied your own.
It wasn’t that you didn’t want him to know--you had actually been trying for a baby for a while now--you just weren’t sure how to tell him. Is this how he felt before proposing?
The opening of your bedroom door interrupted your thoughts. You were met with the sight of your husband shrugging off his jacket when you turned around. He cut his hair recently. Something about it being “too hot for this shit.”
“Why are you wearing a jacket? It’s June,” you giggled.
“The air conditioning is fucking blasting and I got cold while I was doing my paper work, if you must know,” he said, laying the jacket on the chair you were standing next to. He left a quick kiss on your lips, leaving you craving for more.
“You’re crazy.”
“I’m crazy? I think you have the wrong guy here, doll.”
“No, I don’t think I do.” Your hand caught his, tangling your fingers together. Should I just tell him now?
“You keep thinking that. Steve asked me to help train some agents here in a few minutes so I gotta go now.” Another quick kiss and a wink and he started making his way out the door.
“Wait, Buck!” He turned around, almost out the door. “I need to tell you something real quick.” You motioned for him to come back over.
He took a few steps forward, a confused look on his face as you grabbed both his hands in yours. He could hear your heart rate picking up, which only served to worry him.
“So, I was wondering if you would be free to go to the hospital about eight months from now?” You gave a small smile, hoping he’d catch on quickly. “I’m not sure what the exact date is going to be quite yet but I’d really appreciate it if you could be there.”
Bucky frowned. What business did you have at the hospital that you scheduled nine months ahead of time? “Babe, what are you talking about?”
“I think we’re going to need to find our own place too. We’ll need a lot more space.” He still wasn’t catching on. “I doubt having three people in here would be super pleasant.”
He frowned even more and you simply giggled, bringing his hands to your stomach. “I’m pregnant, Buck.”
“Ohh!” He let out a sigh of relief, glad that that was all you were worried about. “Had me worried for a second there, doll.”
It was your turn to frown. “What?”
“From the way you started, I was worried you were dying and this was some sadistic way of telling me.”
“Nope. Quite the opposite, actually.”
“Was wondering when you were going to tell me.” His thumbs rubbed circles into your belly.
“You knew?!”
“I heard the heartbeat weeks ago. Took me a while to figure out what it was but I figured you’d tell me when you were ready.”
“Damn your supersoldier hearing.” You leaned your head on top of his shoulder, letting out a small groan.
“Holy shit though,” His voice was soft as he rested his chin on your head. “we’re having a baby!”
“Yeah,” You lifted your head up slowly to see the biggest grin on your husband’s face. “we’re having a baby.”
A hand came up to cup your cheeks as he leaned into your lips, kissing you deeply and trying not to cry. “Holy shit!”

Sick Day
Nestor Oceteva x F!Reader
Request by @nessamc: I saw a picture of Coco wrapped in a blanket and immediately thought of a request idea for Nestor instead of Coco. Can I get a fic where Nestor is sick and is being a big baby about it, so reader has to take care of him?
Warnings: Nestor being a big baby
Word Count: 1.8k
A/N: It’s one of my personal fave HCs about Nestor that he’s a total baby when he’s sick. Totally one of those guys who swears he isn’t sick until he’s lowkey dying and then proceeds to be a baby about it. Love that for him.

For a few days, you’d noticed that it seemed like Nestor was starting to come down with something. You’d tried to tell him that he should get a little extra rest, take some vitamins, and just overall keep an eye on himself so it wouldn’t get worse. He waved you off, assuring you that it was nothing, that he never got sick, that if it was anything it was just allergies. You knew that he was a man too stubborn to win that kind of argument against, so you let him do as he pleased. He’d make his own bed, and he’d have to lay in it.
You were sitting at the kitchen table, sipping on your coffee as you scrolled on your phone. You’d gotten out of bed before Nestor, which was incredibly unusual. You figured it meant that all his denial was finally catching up to him, and that whatever was ailing him started to really wear him down. The house was almost silent, so when you heard the shuffling of fabric and the scuffling of feet, you smiled as you kept your attention on the little screen in your hands.
Nestor cleared his throat as he walked into the kitchen, and you knew that he was passively trying to get your attention. Determined not to feed into it, you spoke to him without turning to look at him, “Coffee’s already made if you want some.”
You could hear him sniffling as he paced throughout the kitchen. When you heard the sound of him opening the cupboard, you chanced a look back over your shoulder to see what kind of shape he was in. Immediately you found yourself pressing your lips together in a lame attempt not to smile. Nestor’s hair was down, a big curly mess the way it always got first thing in the morning. You could only see the ends, though, because he had a blanket draped over the top of his head and wrapped around his shoulders like an ill-fitting robe, or the most ridiculous superhero cape you’d ever seen.
“Nes?” you sat there, waiting for him to turn and look at you. When he did, you could see it immediately on his face how he must’ve been feeling, “Oh, baby,” you stood up and walked over to him, gently cupping his face in your hands, “You need to go back to bed.”
“I’m good,” he sounded congested beyond belief—he didn’t even sound like your boyfriend anymore.
You chuckled, shaking your head, “No you’re not,” you pressed your hand to his forehead and shook your head, “Go back and lay down. I’ll pull some stuff together for you.”
“It’s fine,” he sniffled, “Once I have some coffee and shower I’ll be—”
You gave him a light push back towards the hall that lead to the bedroom, “Go back to bed. I’ll make you some tea, pull together some stuff that’ll help make it so you can breathe like a normal human again. You’ll be cured in no time.”
“I’m not that sick.”
Rolling your eyes, you nodded, “Sure you’re not. Now go lay down.”
You couldn’t quite make out the words he was grumbling as he walked away, but surely enough you could hear the receding sounds of his shuffling along the floor. Once you were fairly certain that he was back in bed, you began to grab everything you’d need for his tea.
When it was done, you stood in the bedroom doorway for a moment, his mug of tea cupped carefully in your hands. Nestor was completely wrapped up in the blanket on the bed, looking as small as you’d ever seen him. His head was rested on the pillow, comforter pulled up to his chin. His eyes were shut, breathing steady, but you could still tell that he wasn’t completely asleep. You leaned against the doorway and looked at him, and despite the fact that you hated seeing him sick, there was something wholesome about the sight of him bundled up in bed the way that he was.
Finally crossing the threshold, you made your way over to him. You set the mug on the bedside table before getting situated on the mattress next to him. Leaning back against the headboard, you stretched your legs out in front of you. Even in his sick, exhausted daze, Nestor realized what you were doing and immediately scooted himself over so that he could rest his head in your lap, draping one arm across your thighs. You let out a quiet chuckle as you carefully, lovingly, toyed with his hair. He let out a quiet grumble of contentment as you did, practically melting into your lap.
He let out a deep sigh that turned into him trying to hold back a cough. A small smile crossed your face as you gave his shoulder a gentle shake, “Sit up, Nes. The tea will help with that.”
He groaned but slowly he propped himself up, leaning back against the headboard the same way that you were. He pulled his legs up so that he was sitting cross-legged, blanket still somehow wrapped around his shoulders and draped over him. You smiled as you handed him the mug, watching as he carefully cupped it in his hands. He soaked up the warmth through the ceramic for a few moments before lifting it to his lips and taking a careful sip. His facial features quickly relaxed—clearly he was expecting the tea to taste disgusting since it was supposed to be helpful.
“Not too bad, right?” you asked quietly as you reached over and rested your hand on his knee.
He nodded, taking another sip, “It’s good.”
“Good,” you smiled as you pulled your phone out, “there’s more in the kitchen so I can get you more when you’re done.”
“I can get my own—”
“You need to rest. Let me take care of you for a couple days, will you?”
He let out a mumble of sorts but didn’t argue with you anymore. You chuckled quietly, loving the tired, grumpy man sitting beside you on the bed. Sitting back and letting himself be taken care of wasn’t something that he’d ever been good at, and now he wasn’t being given another option.
As the morning went by, Nestor had another cup of the tea you’d made, before promptly falling back to sleep. You soothingly pushed the hair back out of his face as he laid sprawled out on his stomach on the bed. Even though he filled the room with congested snores, you still adored everything about him.
When Nestor woke up again, he had no idea how long he’d been asleep for. His eyes weren’t completely open yet as he felt around the bed for you. When he realized that you weren’t there, he opened his eyes the rest of the way. Slowly pushing himself up, he took a breath and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He felt a little less exhausted thanks to the nap, but he still felt sick. He knew he wasn’t going to get better in the span of one morning but he still hoped.
Sniffling, he caught the faint scent of something. He assumed that to someone who wasn’t losing the ability to breathe through their nose, it probably smelled great. Whatever it was, was just enticing enough to get him to force himself out of bed, adorning his blanket cape once more. He knew that you were just going to tell him to get back to bed, but he wanted to see what you were up to without having to shout to you from the other end of the house.
You heard him as soon as he stepped out of the bedroom. Not even needing to turn around and face him, you spoke to him as he walked into the kitchen, “It’ll be ready in about ten minutes.”
“What’s it?” he asked as he loomed closer to you and the stove.
You chuckled, glancing over at him for a moment, “Family recipe. Surefire way to get you breathing like a functional human again,” you turned and looked over at him, unable to fight the urge to tenderly cup the side of his face in your palm, “You should be laying down.”
“I’ll lay on the couch,” he started shuffling towards the living room.
You smiled, shaking your head because you knew that was the best you were going to get from him for the time being. He was always clingier and needier than he let on, but when he wasn’t feeling well it intensified tenfold.
When you were done cooking and were bringing over bowls for each of you, Nestor was on the couch, half-dazed as he tried to focus on what he was watching on TV. Setting the bowls on the coffee table in front of you, you sat down and nudged Nestor to let him know that it was time to eat. You were surprised that he hadn’t fallen back to sleep yet, but you assumed that he would as soon as he was done eating.
He curled up with his bowl of soup, and you knew that realistically the last thing he wanted to be doing was eating, but he did it without a fight. The lack of argument was mostly due to the fact that he didn’t have the energy to try and win one against you, but he wasn’t ever going to cop to that.
Both of your bowls were empty, discarded back onto the coffee table. Nestor sat with his head resting against the back of the couch. His eyes were shut as he looked up at the ceiling. You were leaning back against the arm of the couch, legs bent in front of you as you half paid attention to the show that was on. Looking over to Nestor, you saw that he was on the brink of falling back to sleep again. That was fine, but you also knew that if he fell asleep like that, the pain in his neck when he woke up would be atrocious.
Gently nudging him with your foot, you got him to look at you. Offering him a soft smile, you motioned for him to come and lay with you, “C’mere.”
He shook his head as he shifted on the couch, “I don’t wanna get you sick.”
Rolling your eyes, you shook your head, “I’ll be fine. If I’m not sick now, I’ll be alright. Come lay with me,” you stretched out your legs and positioned yourself so that he could come and lay with you.
He hesitated for a moment, but the thought of being curled up with you while he felt the way he did was too tempting to turn down. With a light sigh, he shimmied his way down to your end of the couch. He positioned himself between your legs and laid his head against your chest. You adjusted the blanket so that it was comfortably draped over the both of you. His eyes drifted shut immediately as he mumbled out a semi-coherent, “I love you.”
Smiling, you pressed a kiss to the edge of his forehead, “I love you too.”

1: “We need to stop the bleeding – now!” 2: “I hate to see you hurt like this.” 4: “I want to help you, so please let me.” 12: “You’re normally the tough guy. Today, let me be tough for the both of us.”
Something about today had felt off. Ever since you woke up, it just felt... not right. As if your mind already knew what was going to happen before it actually did. But no one can really know that for sure. That's why it's called a gut feeling. And that feeling told you that today... You might just die.
You've tasted blood before. But for some reason this time it tasted sweet, rather than bitter, and full of iron. There wasn't much for you to focus on other than the lights from the ceiling flickering over your head. You faintly heard a doctor screaming, "We need to stop the bleeding! BP is dropping- Let's go! Now!"
How did you end up here again, violently broken and bleeding out? Oh, that's right... You were driving home after work. It was another late shift during the dead hours of the night. Drunk drivers were often out during these hours of the night. One just so happened to hit you, and now you're here in a hospital.
You just wanted to go home and sleep. You wanted to lay beside your husband and not have to worry about anything. That was not your case, however. And instead, you tried your best to speak. A nurse who was pushing you along the gurney said, "It's alright, we'll help you, you're safe now." But all you wanted to do was ask about your husband. For someone to tell him what was going on. You were sure he was at home, sleeping soundly and without a clue what had happened.
And Alastor wouldn't find out until the next morning. He'd wake up to several missed calls from dozens of people and some he didn't even know. This man didn't even get dressed. He ran out of the house still in his pajamas and floored it to the hospital. Along the way there, Alastor would throw a massive fit. He'd smash his hands on the steering wheel, beating himself up over not getting there sooner.
He'd curse and swear and honestly drive like a maniac. Every red light he got caught at only made him angrier with the world. His tires would spin and shoot smoke the second the light flickered green and off he rushed again.
Luckily, you were out of surgery long before Alastor got to the hospital. A nurse walked him to your room, and he found himself staring at a sight he'd never imagine. You were broken beyond belief. The nurse gave Alastor a sorry look, "Everything's stable, for now," The nurse said, "But...." She shook her head, "It was one of the worse car accidents we've ever seen. We did everything we could-"
"Coma..." Alastor said the single word, "Induced or?" The nurse shook her head.
"Brain damage, though there is still plenty of brain activity," That was good to hear. It meant you weren't brain dead... yet. The nurse gave him a sorry look, then with a nod of her head, she left him there. Alastor slowly walked into your room and closed the door behind him. He even turned all the blinds so no one could see in the little windows from the hallways. Everything felt wrong.
He stood at your bedside. Taking in everything. The tubes, the machines, the wires. Almost immediately he felt his eyes burn with the threat of tears. And when he placed a hand on your cheek he couldn't stop the waves of them rushing down his face.
The sheer pain of the situation made Alastor sob like a child for the first time in his adult life. He sat down beside you and grabbed your hand, "Dammit..." He squeezed tightly, "Dammit!" He let out a little shout and brought your hand to his cheek, "I hate this-" He let out a small cry, "I hate to see you like this, my poor dear-"
He couldn't stop the waves of tears sobbing from his eyes. He'd never let himself cry like this before, but he felt like if he didn't cry, he wouldn't have the chance to later. With anger, he ran a hand over his face, aggressively wiping his tears. He threw his glasses off his face and they clinked to the floor. Alastor's fingers ringed into his hair as he let out another sob and pushed his bangs out of his face. He had completely lost all of his composure. Every part of him was breaking down.
Alastor sat down in the chair by your bedside and buried his head in one of his hands. With his other hand, he still held firm to yours. His fingers dug into your skin as let out another sob, "Please-" He hiccuped, "Please...!" He looked up at your unconscious face with watery dark eyes, "Please be okay," He whispered the words out quickly as he brought your hand to his lips, "Please let me help you-" He spoke the words against your skin, "I want to help you- Please let me... Just!" He paused for another quick sob, "Please just give me a sign your still in there..."
He was never a man to pray to any kind of god. He didn't believe there was one, to begin with. But Alastor found himself praying, hoping that anything would happen. He couldn't lose you, and certainly not like this. You never sign any DNR papers or made it clear to your doctors that you didn't want to be resuscitated. But you did tell Alastor if there ever came a day that you needed machines to keep you alive, you had asked him to pull the plug.
With the weight of what was once just a silly conversation that had now come true, Alastor found himself drowning in misery. He rested his head on the back of your hand as sat in his chair. He looked at his glasses on the ground as tears splattered around them, "I don't want to kill you," He whispered with a cry, "I don't want to unplug you if there is a chance you'll come out of this."
The stone-cold silence lasted only a second between the beats of your heart monitor. A beep, then silence. Another beep, then silence again. Alastor found himself swelling with rage and anger, but mostly sadness. He shook his head slowly as he stared at the ground. This can't be happening... He thought This has to be a dream... This-
Something sounded off. The beeps were getting... faster? Alastor looked up and stared at the monitors. He didn't understand any of them, there were so many, but something was happening. He watched numbers flicker and change when suddenly he felt a tug at his hand.
You didn't make a sound or hardly move but you're squeezed his hand. Alastor had never been so hopeful for something so small. He shot out of his chair with enough force to tip it over behind him.
"Darling!?" Alastor firmly gripped your hand and leaned over you. He let his free hand brush your hair out of your face as he asked, "Darling, please, for the love of god- Can you hear me?"
He waited, and waited some more. Suddenly her felt your hand squeeze him again while he searched your face for any signs, "oh my god-" He whispered to himself as he watched your face twitch with pain before your eyes flickered open. With lightning speed Alastor ran to the door of your room and swung it open, "Someone get a nurse!" He shouted into the hallway, "Please!" He ignored most of the odd stares he was getting.
It wasn't a second later that a small team of nurses rushed in to check on you. You had certainly woken up and the tubes down your throat were not comfortable at all. The intubation tubes were removed, along with the feeding tubes, while others updated your stats. Alastor waited nervously in the corner of the room as he watched a team of people work over you. He felt so helpless that he couldn't watch for long. He'd leave the room and wait in the hallway, trying his best to ignore the painful coughs and groans as tubes were pulled out of your throat.
When the nurses left, Alastor quickly went back into the room and to your side. You had only just started breathing on your own again. It was much harder to breathe than ever before, but you still managed. You were still groggy, swore, and very much in pain. Despite this, you still let the smallest and weakest smile crawl along your lips, "Hey..." Was the first thing you said to your husband.
You watched as Alastor's eyes flickered all over your form. From the casts, the pins, the cuts, and bruises. He searched your face for serval minutes than began a weak laugh that sounded similar to a cry, "H-hey..." He said with a long sigh, he even tried to wear a smile that just didn't sit right on his face.
"Al..." You raised a weak and tired hand to his face. He immediately pressed his cheek into the palm of your hand and shook his head, "I'm sorry," You said. But you had nothing to be sorry for, you didn't cause this or intend for it to happen.
He couldn't say anything, Alastor was too caught up with his feelings. You watched him break down all over again as if he was still living with the fear that you might die, "Hey- hey," You raised your hand slightly and made him look at you, "I'm alright," It was hard to see him so broken down like this, "I'm okay, I'm here." You reassured him, "I'm not going anywhere."
Alastor shook his head quickly as if he didn't want to bother you with his feelings. He sucked in a quick gasp for air then sobbed out, "I'm not strong enough to deal with something like this- Ever-.... I can't lose you." He said quickly.
You couldn't really scoot over but thankfully the bed was rather large. You gave Alastor's arm a tug and he quickly climb in and curled up beside you. He was careful to stay clear of any broken bones as he made himself comfortable.
You stared at the ceiling while Alastor shut his eyes and buried himself into the crook of your neck, you used your free hand to comb his hair despite the pain it caused you to move, "That's alright," You finally told him, "No one is strong enough to deal with something like this. You're normally so tough and good at hiding your emotions. But you don't have to do that. I'm alive, I lived, I can be tough enough for the both of us, even if it's just for today."
Alastor curled himself as close as he could beside you. He wanted nothing more than to hide and forget about this day, he knew how impossible that was but he still wanted it. You could feel his tears running from his face and onto your skin. He couldn't stop crying when normally he never cried. He didn't even cry at his mother's funeral. Even though you were the one in the car accident, somehow you felt that Alastor was in the most pain.
"Please don't ever leave me," His voice was raspy and broken as he spoke against the skin of your neck.
With a sad and sorry look on your face, you did your best to pull him closer and wrap your arm around him. You pressed your forehead against his and you felt a set of tears drop from your eyes. You did your best to smile as you spoke, "I won't," You promised, "I'll never leave you, I'll always be here."

Of Nights So Hollow, Of Legends So Great
Night Culture AU!Batfamily One-Shot
Word Count: 1.8K Warnings: Angst, Uh..Scary? I guess?
Author's Note: This is based on the wonderful @bunnvoid Night Culture AU and I felt compelled to write this at midnight because I couldn't stop thinking about it. Bunn, I hope I did your ideas justice! Honestly, I keep going back and forth between the drawings to make sure! I had fun writing it! -Thorne
**********************************************************************
It was said that at the heart of every legend there was a grain of truth. Legends are just pieces of history fabricated beyond wildest belief, built upon by centuries of retelling, each story sewing a new thread into the tapestry from whence it came. But that’s all that legends are. Threads twined together, woven greater and farther than the original fable.
***
The old castle was a legend. Perhaps not the castle itself, but what supposedly resided inside. Supernatural creatures that skirted down cobblestone alleys and between taverns, seeking out fresh blood in the night. That was one form of the legend, if you believed it. The other form was that of creatures who skirted down cobblestone alleys and between taverns, seeking out evil and destroying it where it plagued innocence.
The chateau lied in the midst of the Devilwood Wilds, just outside the City of Old Gotham. Even during the days when the sun would peek through the gray clouds, it appeared gloomy, blackened stone walls, charred shingles and shutters. The giant Devilwood and Shadow trees prevented sight of the doors of the castle; only the top could be seen, to get the real view, one would’ve had to go into the forest. There was another legend: the horrors of the Wilds.
Whispers on the school-grounds told of a creature, big and terrifying that could be summoned with ritual stones and fresh bat blood; those that summon the beast are never seen again. The adults were less convinced of the idea, though they still forbid their children from reaching even the edges of the forested area. Whilst they believed those that went in were never heard from again, it wasn’t from a creature eating them, but a lack of guidance. Starvation. Wild animals. The freezing fog that made your breath turn to frost.
Timothy remembers hearing those whispers when he passed the old schoolhouse. His mother and father didn’t let him interact with the common children, instead his lessons were taught by private tutors from the wealthiest lands, paid for with the Drake treasure of gold and gemstones.
What more so Timothy remembered was the inhuman being that appeared in his father’s manor, striking down his mother with a slash of black magic, his father following. He remembers the way his father’s eyes rolled back in his skull, fear spreading through his body as he hid in the corner of the room, whimpering and crying. And he most certainly remembered the cold hand of the demon sliding between his shoulder blades before it dug into his skin, piercing his flesh, laughing as he cried out in pain as pricks spread out along his back and down his arms.
Warmth bled down his back as black feathers pushed from his skin and Timothy panted as his fingernails grew in length, sharpening as they darkened. He remembered scrambling to his feet, darting away from the creature as he ran. Forgetting the corpses of his family and staff around him, throwing the door open, bursting into the night, and sprinting down the street, leaving a trail of bloody, black feathers in the direction of the Devilwood Wilds.
***
The first night was the least remembered but the darkest. Violent and corrupting nightmares slithering inside his head as he tossed and turned along the frigid ground in a feverish deathlike state, the wings at his back only growing in size.
The second night was less nightmare-ridden, but much more painful. Timothy had pierced a wing on a stray Devilwood tree, the syrup like poison only infecting the wound. He was hungry and cold. Exhausted and scared. He tried to remember all the books he read as a child of the knights facing the elements for a week in order to ascend knighthood; he couldn’t seem to recall a thing.
The third night seemed to be his last. He lay huddled up against a raised Shadow tree root, the ebony wood providing stability for his wounded wing. Timothy sniffled, dragging his knees to his chest as he lay his chin on his arms, ignoring the grumbling of his stomach as it ate itself in hunger.
A tree branch creaked above him, and he craned his neck up, eyes widening when he saw the glowing eyes of the masked creature. The legends were right. The creature’s head twisted sideways, reminding Timothy of an owl, then the other way, like it was observing him. It made a noise and he scrambled to the floor of the forest, curling his injured wing above his head and over his body to protect himself.
THUNK!
Timothy whimpered, ready to be torn to shreds, but when no vicious claws or snapping teeth came at him, he carefully peered between his open wing. There lie a satchel, as long as his forearm and as wide as his middle was. He looked up towards the tree branch to where the creature had sat, but there was nothing there anymore; he glanced around, it wasn’t in sight.
He blinked and shuffled towards the satchel, untying the drawstrings with fumbling clawed hands. Inside lay a pair of thick wool socks, a small blanket, and another small bag. Timothy pulled it from the satchel and opened it; half a loaf of bread and a chunk of meat the size of his hand were stowed inside.
Timothy forewent the etiquette he was taught as a child, giving into his ravenous desire as he devoured the meat. It was tender and juicy, the glaze a mixture of honey and cinnamon.
A memory flowed to his mind, the dinner after the rising of the first star, his family and staff all surrounding the dining table, a divine feast laid before them. The smiling faces of his mother and father stilled his hunger and he placed the food back in the satchel, uncurling the wool blanket. Timothy lay underneath the raised Shadow tree roots, one wing curled around him, and he fell into a restless sleep with tears frozen on his cheeks.
***
When he awoke the next morning, his wing was no longer torn and infected. A new feather had appeared where the wound had been. Timothy wanted to learn to fly. He’d owned a bird once. A Ruby Firebird, with long, crimson-colored feathers and big ruby eyes. It had been his only real friend and he’d watched it a lot. It couldn’t be that hard.
He stretched his wings out, unable to fight the urge to touch them with a single black claw. It tingled. Timothy blinked and beat them, unsure. He beat them again, this time a little harder, keeping at it until with each beat he was able to blow the long grass flat against the ground. A giddy smile came across his lips when the tips of his toes grazed the ground.
What he had not counted on was how tired he was going to get after only a few brief minutes of trying. His wings felt sore. Timothy would try again tomorrow to rise above the tall grass.
***
The creature would appear at odd times during the night and Timothy had stopped feeling the cold fear in his gut when it did. It never came near him; it just watched with the cocked head, back and forth, then would drop the satchel again and disappear. Sometimes there were scribbles inside. He didn’t know what they meant; but he knew the language. Thaatisgani. An old language his writing teacher had shown him one day. A language long died out amongst the common and even the elite folk.
Timothy wanted to know what it meant. He wanted to know what the creature was. His determination drew him to the front of the castle during the night of the harshest season storm. Lighting crackled across the sky, the thunder rolled along the clouds and the rain came down in torrents. He was freezing and soaked to the bone and the weight of his wings had him crawling up the steps, collapsing at the door.
He weakly raised a clawed hand, one nail scratching the black glazed door and he descended into darkness.
***
His mother liked to wear scented oils. They smelled of Queen’s Briar and Golden Belladonna. Before he was older, she used to let Timothy sit beside her when she would apply them to her wrist and ears. She would smile at him and tell him stories of far away lands.
Warmth spread across his eyes, and he rolled over in what he thought was his dream, only to roll onto the ground, landing awkwardly on his wings. Timothy whined and unfolded himself off the ground, rubbing his eyes, only to see the creature a hair’s breadth away from his face.
Timothy choked on his fear and scrambled away, only for the creature to grab his shoulder.
“Stay.”
He halted, looking back at it. “You speak the common tongue?”
The creature stared at him. “You are Timothy Drake. Son of Earl Drake.”
“I am,” Timothy responded, then looked at his hands. “But my family is…is dead.”
“Killed by a slithering demon from the Farstead realm.”
Tears prickled Timothy’s vision. “It killed my parents and cursed me.” He looked at the creature. “I’m a monster.”
“You’re cursed to believe what you think you are.” The creature waved a glowing hand and Timothy blinked in shock as the wings disappeared and his hands turned to normal. “It’s merely an illusion. You’ve only been tainted with cursed magic.”
It was much too complicated for Timothy to pull apart now. “Can I be healed?”
The creature blinked its glowing obs. “Cursed magic cannot be healed…but it can be trained.” They leaned forward, getting in his face. “I can teach you to control and transform.”
“You’re not going to eat me?”
“No.”
“Are you sure?”
“…Yes.”
“You hesitated just a bit right there.”
A bottle rolled out from the corner of the room and the creature sighed, turning its head to it. “Richard. Jason. Come here.”
Two young boys, not that much older than Timothy appeared from behind a corner, guilty looks on their faces as though they’d been caught eavesdropping.
The creature nodded to Timothy. “Take him upstairs. He is dirty and tired.”
The tallest one, Jason, crossed his arms over his chest. “Just like that, Bruce? You’re going to take the witch boy in?”
“Pot-kettle,” Richard coughed, smiling when Jason elbowed him.
The creature, now known as Bruce, sighed. “Take the boy. He is tired.”
Jason and Richard obeyed, each hauling Timothy up under the armpits, leading him to a dimly lit staircase.
“Are you two going to eat me?”
“Yes,” Jason replied without hesitation.
“Jason!” Richard barked. “Stop.” He looked down at Timothy. “We’re not going to eat you Timothy…we’re going to help you. And that includes having a warm bed to sleep in and hot food to eat.”
Tears once again gathered in Timothy’s eyes, and he lowered his head as he sniffled. For once since that night, he felt safe.
These were the legends that prowled the city streets. They were supposed to be vicious and dark, evil and bloodthirsty, not ribbing and warm.
But then again, what are legends, but threads twined together, woven greater and farther than the original fable?

Lethal Attraction
Hey! Long time no see. This is a GVF x oc mob story I've been working on. Please let me know if you think I should continue this, I have another whole part already written.
Warnings: Guns, blood, screaming, cursing, handcuffs
Word Count: 1422
Today is going to be a good day. I think to myself as I’m walking out of the house.
“Or maybe not” I mumbled with an eyeroll. It's pouring down rain.
“Well this is just great!” I grumbled as I stormed down the sidewalk, headed to my job at the local bank. It was a 15 minute walk to the bank, and I just so happened to be in a rush this morning. Leading to me not having time to grab an umbrella.
Lydia was already at her post at the front desk, waiting with a tired smile.
“Hey girlie, how was your night?” She quietly yelled to me as I was trying to wring out the water in my shirt. It’s completely soaked through, That’s just great.
“Hey do you happen to have a spare sweater or something I can wear? My white shirt got completely soaked from the rain.” I asked her with pleading eyes, hoping she could spare an article of clothing.
“I’m sorry hun, I don’t have anything with me today otherwise I would let you use it.” She spoke with a now apologetic smile. I quickly sent back a small nod as I ran to the bathroom, maybe I can use the hand blower to dry my shirt a little bit. I thought I heard someone yell but figured it was just Lydia finding another spider trying to protect itself from this dreadful downpour. After trying for about 5 minutes I just said fuck it and went out to my station. I apparently couldn’t have chosen a better time to leave the bathroom however.
There were men dressed in all black, some holding machine guns, and some holding pistols. They stormed the building like they owned the place. I was frozen in place. One man started yelling at me, but I couldn’t comprehend what he was saying for the life of me. It just sounded like complete gibberish. He suddenly reached out, grabbing me which caused me to look up. When I did I saw the most beautiful honey brown eyes. He was wearing a clown mask so that’s all I could see, but I was absolutely mesmerized already.
”Are you deaf bitch? I said get on the fucking ground before I splatter your brains across the walls” I heard the man yell as he was looking directly into my eyes, piercing my soul with the fire behind his. Once I realized what he had said, I quickly dropped to the floor. My face almost hitting his black leather combat boots, steel toed no doubt. The man didn’t move. He looked down on me like he’s the predator and I’m his next meal.
“We’re not done yet” He snarled at me before firing a couple rounds into the ceiling, effectively grabbing everyone’s attention.
“Alright! Everyone listen up! You’re gonna put all the money in the bags. You’re not going to ask any questions, And you’re gonna lay down on the floor, Hands where I can see them.” The man yelled across the bank, still standing threateningly close to me. I tried to crawl away from him but he shot me in the leg, scaring me and everyone else in the room. I let out a guttural scream and held my leg, trying to ease the pain. I looked up at the man in absolute astonishment. I was shocked beyond belief. I couldn’t hold back my cries, no matter how hard I tried.
“Shut up bitch! Or I’ll give you something to cry about.” The man said angrily, obviously tired of my shit.
“Francis! Grab the bag and let's get out of here. Robert, Michael! Grab the girl, she’s seen too much.” The man yelled before walking out the back door, probably to avoid the cops that I could hear coming down the block. Hearing him say they were taking me caused me to freak out even more. The pain got to be too much when the other men tried to lift me. I let out a brief scream, but nothing more. I passed out from shock. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing though. I just wanted to get paid and go home! Now I’ve lost all my money and I’m probably going to lose my life in the process, or at least my leg.
When I awoke, all I could see were blurry silhouettes. Someone was yelling again, and there was a throbbing in my leg. I tried to touch it to make sure everything was ok, but my hands were bound to the rusty bed frame that I was laying on. The mattress looked dingy and old. I don’t wanna think about what all has been on this mattress. It’s now covered in my blood, and I’m probably going to get an infection from the nasty thing. That was the least of my problems right now. Where the hell am I? Before I could answer my own question the door swung open to reveal a tall skinny man. He wasn’t wearing a mask, but I could recognize him from a mile away. He was the guy who grabbed the money bag. This was Francis.
“Hey guys! She’s awake!” Francis yelled excitedly. The other men ran in the room shortly after his little outburst. None of them were wearing masks this time. Francis and who looked to be the main guy, were both shirtless. Effectively showing off their toned abs and what looked to be battle scars of sorts.
“What's your name mama?” The short one with curly hair crouched down and gently asked. I just stared at him, conflicted on if I should answer or not.
“HEY! He asked you a fucking question!” The main guy yelled, grabbing the hair at the nape of my neck and pulling hard. I cried out but I knew no one would help.
“Rose! My name is Rose!” I yelped out as he pulled harder.
“There! Was that so hard?” He said aggressively while throwing my head back towards the bed.
“Jake, cool it!” The short haired man said while grabbing ‘Jake’s shoulder. This calmed the man named ‘Jake down enough for him to glare at me and storm out of the room. When he was gone, the short haired man came over to me, being cautious to not scare me in the process.
“I’m gonna be blunt with you mama, We can’t let you go. You’ve seen too much, so we have no choice.” Before he could even finish the sentence I started breathing heavily, trying to hold back tears. “You’re going to kill me? No! Please! I won’t say anything. I saw nothing!” I wailed, trying to get the men to understand. I didn’t want to die. I didn’t sign up for all of this today. I was just supposed to go to work and come back home to my warm bed. Not this!
“Calm down! We’re not going to kill you. We actually have a job proposal for you.” He spoke in the same tone that he used with Jake.
“What? No! I don’t want to work with you. You’re criminals, I’m a good person. I’ve never broken the law and I refuse to start now.” I said, making myself very clear to the men.
“Well you still can’t leave so you might as well get comfy. I’m Josh by the way.” He said before standing and heading towards the door.
“Sam, stay here and keep an eye on her, make sure she doesn’t do anything stupid.” The tall one named Sam gave a brief nod before pulling the wooden chair out of the corner and straddling it with his thighs, giving him a nonchalant look. He was so cool and collected as the others left the room.
Sam cleared his throat before speaking softly.
“Um, My name is Sam as I’m sure you heard. I’m sorry about my brothers, They tend to be a little dramatic” Sam spoke with a soft sigh, '' Like it hurt him to talk about his brothers in a negative fashion.
“My head still hurts” I mumbled quietly, trying to keep as far away as the handcuffs would allow.
“Do you mind if I take a look?” Sam asked hesitantly.
“You stay away from me! I wouldn’t be in this mess if it weren’t for you and your little gang of misfits.” I spit the words at him, each syllable dripping with venom.
“I’m gonna pretend you didn’t just say that.” Sam mumbled with a sneer.

Siblings: Chapter Five
AO3
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4
-------------------------------------------------------
Siblings hadn’t even crossed Cass’s mind until she’d fled the League of Assassins.
She had no reason to think of them, they were never brought up. That’s just how it was. She was always too busy training to ever think about questions or focus on different matters.
It wasn’t until she left, leaning against a dumpster at the ripe old age of ten, did the thought finally pop into her head.
She hadn’t been the only kid in that alley, a notable few others cowering by themselves. Many of the kids she’d met among her travels, homeless and scared like her, had a sort of unspoken rule. Helping those when needed, then parting without a word.
So she had been curious about three kids sticking together. They’d been very similar in appearance, and it didn’t take long for her to deduce that they were related. Three brothers. The eldest a few years older than her, the middle one or two younger, and the youngest couldn’t be more than seven.
They had always been seen together, and she’d spent the time waiting out the night by that dumpster studying them.
They had been kind, pressing together for warmth and protection, keeping the youngest in between them. They were all different, and she found that the few other siblings she’d run across shared traits. If one sibling was brash, the other was sweet. If one was quiet, the other was loud. If one was a fighter, the other was a talker.
She never learned their names, never gave anything more than a nod to them as she passed them by.
Their situation was awful, but they had each other. They had someone to keep them company, to protect and be protected. A family who cared about them.
She envied them.
“Alright, sound off, who’s still conscious?”
A round of groans answered Bruce’s inquiry.
Each and every one of the Bats, save for Cullen and Barbara of course, were strewn out among the alley and roof of one of Gotham’s more worn-down buildings. It was a little comical, seeing the vigilantes of Gotham looking like jelly.
Jason and Harper were slumped on a second-floor balcony, hanging off the railing. Dick, Tim and Duke were strewn about on the pavement inside the alley, the only one who appeared to be in a moderately comfortable position was Duke, who was laying on his back and staring up at the sky. Steph was laying across the roof, her head and arms hanging over limply. Damian was flopped on top of what looked similar to a discarded arbor, cape draped across his face.
Cass, meanwhile, was perching on one of the windowsills, eyes flicking between each sibling. Bruce was on the roof next to Steph, frowning. Though, he always looked like he was frowning when on patrol.
“I take it that means nobody requires immediate medical attention?” Bruce tried weakly.
“I’m never doing that again,” Duke complained. “I can’t believe I let you guys talk me into trying a night patrol. Ivy is so much nicer in the daytime, what the hell.”
“Welcome to the night life,” Jason grumbled, raising his head slightly. “Blame Dick for the family bonding.”
“Shut up,” Dick groaned, muffled due to his face pressed sideways against the ground.
“You deserve this,” Barbara crackled over the comms.
“Everybody is fine, then?” Bruce asked again. “Nobody got infected with anything? Seeds planted in skin?”
“Ivy can plant seeds into skin?” Duke yelped, sitting bolt upright.
“She only did that, like, twice.” Steph assured, waving a hand without even moving her head. “I’m free of the kissing disease, though.”
“Same,” Harper raised a hand.
Choruses of similar affirmatives rose up among the others, save for Tim, who hadn’t moved from his spot. Duke, who was closest to him, noticed.
“Tim?” He asked. “You alright?”
Heads shot up, like the exhaustion from earlier never existed. Cass had sprung off her windowsill and landed next to Tim before Duke was even scrambling over.
She peered over Tim for a moment, poking his side and lifting his head up. He looked peaceful. Not still enough to be someone who was knocked unconscious. No heavy bleeding, either.
“Asleep,” She informed, setting his head back on the ground.
Everyone immediately relaxed, slumping back to their original positions.
“Of course he’s asleep,” Damian muttered from beneath his cape. “He can never let himself rest at reasonable times now, can he?”
“None of you have reasonable sleeping schedules,” Barbara pointed out.
“I’ve got him,” Bruce sighed, sliding down off the roof and landing next to Tim. Cass stepped aside as he scooped up the teen, keeping a firm hold on him like he’d slip between his fingers. “Everyone get up, we’re heading back.”
Pained groans answered him a second time.
“You guys can head back,” Jason said, gripping the railing and forcing himself to stand upright. “I, however, have a wonderful safe house waiting for me.”
“Weakling,” Harper muttered, getting a sharp jab from Jason in response.
Bruce frowned slightly, in such a subtle movement that only those who’d been stuck with his brooding for years would notice it. Cass noticed, or rather, noticed how his stance shifted ever so slightly. She couldn’t quite remember the word for it...longing restraint? Something like that, she’d need to ask Dick later, he was better with words.
Cass slipped away from Bruce, springing onto the windowsills and landing on the thin railing of the balcony with only a minor falter. Jason jumped a bit when she landed, to which she grinned underneath her mask.
“Big brother,” She said, crouched on the railing. “Go home?”
Jason watched her for a moment, and she could tell he was glaring at her from under his helmet. Resisting, she thinks that's the word.
“Don’t do this to me.” Jason near-begged, voice wavering slightly. Fighting Cass on anything, physical or not, was a losing battle. They knew this, and they knew that she knew it, too.
“Big brother,” Cass said in a singsong tone, laying her head on the railing right in front of Jason. She could see Harper not even bothering to hide her malicious smile.
“Cass, please,”
“Names,” Damian muffled.
“Alfred make cookies,” Cass continued, poking at Jason. “I help steal?”
That was untrue, you never stole things from Alfred. Either he let you have them or you never found it. Even still, Jason was never one to turn down the opportunity for petty crimes.
“C’mon, Jay,” Harper added, still grinning. “You really want to disappoint your sister?”
“Names,” Damian reminded again.
“...I hate this family.” Jason groaned, hanging his head over the railing as Cass scooted back, snickering.
“And we got Hood on board!” Steph gave a weak cheer.
Cass turned her head back to the alleyway below, smiling proudly. Bruce’s shoulders slumped and he shook his head. Relief, she thinks. She pretended not to notice him sending her a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it expression of gratitude.
“Grab whoever has trouble walking, we’re taking the roofs.” Bruce informed, slinging Tim over his shoulder as he began scaling the building again. “Orphan, you're on herding duty. Don’t let anyone fall behind.”
Cass saluted cheerfully, leaping off the railing and onto a third-floor balcony, then onto the flat roof. She perched on the edge of the roof, eyes flickering over her siblings as they complained and pulled themselves upright.
It was during times like this, when they still felt the need to double-check with each other as they went back on the move, that she watched the clan, watched the roles they held for each other.
Duke offered a hand to Dick, who fumbled for a moment before taking it and getting hoisted to his feet. He swayed for a moment before reassuring Duke he was fine, striding towards where Damian had collapsed and grabbing him by the cape, dragging it off his annoyed face as he was lifted like a cat. Steph rolled to the side as Bruce clambered onto the roof. She attempted to stand on shaky legs, to which Bruce held out an arm for her to steady herself on. Harper and Jason were already climbing onto the roof, Harper pausing every few moments to glance back at Jason and tug him up faster.
Dick was attempting to carry Damian up the roof, but the kid protested loudly to that and instead scampered up himself. Duke frowned but climbed up after them, occasionally getting pulled up by Dick, who was looking up every few seconds to make sure Damian wouldn’t fall off.
Cass wasn’t quite sure where she fit, in all of that. In the lending of helping hands, of receiving the outstretched hands, or in pretending she didn’t need either.
Granted, nobody really fit, she relented as the siblings gathered into a huddled group on the roof a few meters away. Steph was a melting pot, Barbara and the Row’s didn’t technically live anywhere near the family, and Jason couldn’t decide if he’d gun down Scarecrow for them or abandon everyone in the middle of the night.
Bruce was hard to categorize, too. Cass had seen parents on the streets, holding their young child close with wary, tired eyes. Bruce had that, too. Weary beyond belief with a caution to anything getting too close. But he was far from beaten down yet, and there were never days when his kids couldn’t take care of themselves without him. She figured his odd placement was likely a mix of having so many confusing and different children on top of not understanding how emotions worked.
But Cass wasn’t sure where she’d be. She wasn’t as overprotective as someone like Jason or Barbara, so she placed herself closer to whatever side Steph, Duke, Tim or the Row’s were on. But she didn’t talk all that often, and her plans consisted of walking in and expecting it to work out or continuously pestering until her victim gave in. Duke and the Row’s valued logic, and Steph was chatty as ever, Tim was a strange mesh between them. She was certainly more cheerful than others in her family, but Dick and Duke were better at keeping the morale high than she was. And the only times she’s ever really upset is when the others are upset, so there hasn’t ever really been a situation where they got defensive on her behalf exclusively. That crossed out her being anywhere near Damian’s side.
“Orphan? You still with us?”
Cass jerked, blinking as she shook her head to clear it. The others were clustered a bit further than where they had been before, in the process of leaving before they noticed Cass wasn’t following. And she had been staring the whole time.
Cass gave a quick thumbs up, getting out of her crouched position, muscles protesting for a brief moment due to not moving in the slightest for the last few minutes. She popped up next to her family, reassuring them once more with a small nod that she was alright.
Steph bumped her shoulder as the others began to move across the roofs, tilting her head ever so slightly in her subtlest possible way of asking you okay?
‘Fine,’ Cass signed with her hands, bumping her back. ‘Just thinking.’
Steph nodded, having all the information she needed before turning back to hurry in a jog alongside the rest of the Bats.
“Last one to the Manor doesn’t get any of the cookies me and Cass are stealing!” Jason hollered over his shoulder, off like a shot before he even finished his sentence.
“Names!”
Nobody paid attention to Damian as they all cried their protests. Cass laughed and darted after Jason, keeping stride with him as the others picked up speed. Aside from Bruce, who only shook his head and continued along at his regular run, trying not to jostle Tim. Damian tried to act as civil as his father, scoffing at the others trying to sabotage each other to be the first to arrive back. But he gave up after Tim jolted, barely awake as he blinked his eyes and mumbled something about saving some for him. Damian was off like a shot, yelling something about how Tim would get no such thing. Despite the fact Tim was still far too exhausted to do anything more than weakly complain.
Cass sprung onto one of the lamp posts by the road, crouching as the others raced on by, moving with grace for only a moment before they or someone else body slammed into another to try and gain some distance.
She supposed it didn’t matter much which category she was in. Depending on who was deciding it, she could be on any of their sides. Or maybe none at all. She had her own side, she supposed.
She stifled a laugh as she saw Jason kick over Duke before immediately having Dick pounced on his back in retribution.
They were her siblings, she decided. They were old and young, and they were family, and that was all she really needed to know.

Wedding + Honeymoon with Kuroo
Hi my lovelies!! I have big news for you tomorrow that I was honestly too tired to share today!!!! I love you all and appreciate every single one of you so much! There are several big changes happening in my life right now so please keep up the support, it means a whole lot to me! This is a big shift from the heavy NSFW I posted with him yesterday (go check it out)
Words: 1.5k
Warnings: fluff and some implied NSFW
Who gets invited:
Kuroo isn’t picky with who gets invited as long as you both get the people you love and care about everything else is okay so if you want a big wedding he is okay with that but if you want something smaller he is happy for that too, whatever you decide on he is on board like you cannot make a wrong decision and that goes with the whole wedding like he cares so much about you and this wedding is going to be perfect as long as you are there. He does have Kenma as his best man and ways your voice of reason because he loves you and also adores that now his best friend has someone else to drag out to his dumb places instead of him so he will be serious and help you while is going to be super goofy in helping with planning like he will go choose out napkins with you if you want but he will also get serious and helps choose cake flavors, food, venue, everything when you need him, but he is also great for some comical relief.
Walking down the aisle:
You and Kuroo decided that doing pictures before the wedding would be best so that no one has to sit around and wait for the two fo you but like he was perfectly fine doing pictures and the two of you got some amazing shots with the rest of your bridal parties and your families, but somehow seeing you walk down the aisle in a white dress got him so emotional he had to take a moment before the ceremony could even start, you had never looked more beautiful in your entire life and you were about to make eternal promises to each other it was emotional and the two of you had both were crying by the end. You and Kuroo both wrote personal vows that had everyone both laughing and crying at the same time, you went through your relationship together recounting the times where you both had gotten food poisoning and where you both had met and what made each other so special to you, it was sweet and emotional but not cheesy or lengthy and annoying.
First dance: All of me by John It is so sweet like the two of you are arm in arm not very skillfully dancing around the reception hall singing to one another and just looking at each other with so much love and you are caught in the haze of each other like the rest of the room blurs around you. Neither of you ever planned a dance to this because you weren’t wanting to make a big scene of the first dance and the song was really just chosen because it made you cry once on your period because you thought that it was so beautiful and so that became the running joke about your relationship was that it made you cry, so when Kuroo said that he had a surprise chosen out for the wedding and you didn’t think about it too much and you were so busy that when you went back through the checklist for him and said first dance song he said yep and you were too tired to even think twice about it. So when the song came on and he smiled at you all and you just broke down like you were just smiling at each other and crying because this was now your forever like you both were so sweet and so in love and there was not a dry eye in the room when you were done.
Reception
Your reception was a full-on party, you both had a lot of fun getting to dance and party with everyone, the reception hall was large enough that there was enough room to dance and also eat dinner without feeling on top of each other. You both did the classic split up and go greet everyone and say hello and meet back in the middle to tackle the shared people in your lives, it worked wonders and you went through everyone so quickly that you really didn’t know what to do like you then took pictures with your guests and waited for the food to come. You decided on doing a buffet style because neither of you could decide what you wanted and what was even cuter is that it was all of your go-to meals together or thing that means something to the two of you like it is so sweet you have the food from your first date together when he proposed what you had for dinner that night, whatever was important you had and it was all delicious. You kept smiling and just laughing at each other every time you made eye contact because the whole marriage thing didn’t feel real like were you really marrying your best friend and soulmate like it was too good to be true but it was your new reality. Once you all had hit the dance floor and danced with all of your friends and family singing along and just having a good time with everyone, it was always fun getting to have all of the people in your life together and when it came time for the bouquet toss your best friend caught it which was exciting and everyone cheered. Kuroo was super excited and had dragged Kenma to dance with you and after a few drinks, he actually did like he was so happy for you two. Before the cake people made toasts and they ranged from funny to sentimental and sweet, it was something that you both will never forget like you got a goofy story from Kenma about how Kuroo would lay in the grass while they practiced and talk about how he wanted a girlfriend who loved him and who was pretty and nice and did he say pretty and it was really sweet like he made the whole room emotional by just being Kenma. You may or may not have surprised your now-husband with the car of his dreams that you may or may not have been saving up for forever like you had found it for an amazing deal and had been waiting for several weeks to surprise him like Kuroo was always one to spoil you beyond belief and when he saw that you had done this for him he literally picked you up and twirled you around so excitedly like you had just made everything perfect for him.
Honeymoon/First night:
Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh you two end up going on a road trip together and it is sweet and romantic and so much fun like you spend the whole first day driving together, well Kuroo insists that he gets to drive the whole first day and you can’t help but smile as he stops and has the two of you try amazing new restaurants and get to see things like the worlds biggest peach and the museum of natural sciences and it was so fun. The first night together you had sweet loving sex in a hotel that you had randomly selected off of the highway, it wasn’t the first time the two of you had ever done it but it was the sweetest like he took such good care of you and kept calling you Mrs. Kuroo and little things like my wife or my woman like he was really possessive in the sweetest of ways, just to remind you that you two are forever together. You end up getting lost a few times but that was only because he didn’t listen to you and it caused the sweetest argument ever like it was so good oh my gosh you were both hungry and it leads you to the best restaurant ever but you just kept bickering back and forth like Kuroo no we wanted x restaurant and he was like sooooorrry and then you pull up to a cute little restaurant and oh my gosh you have never agreed to get food faster and you needed up sitting at the booth holding hands and apologizing to each other and just smiling at each other the whole time like oh my gosh you were so cute that the waitress gives you both a free dessert and you are so happy and excited like it is so cute you then get directions back to where you both really wanted to go and then you just spend the car ride talking and having such a good time. (100% you take him back to that same diner to announce that you are pregnant like he is like aww sweet memories here and then you surprise him with that and he about bawls, this place means a lot to you guys) He does the thing where he puts his hand on your thigh and occasionally squeezes it and looks over at you and smiles and your heart melts. You have sweet sex every single night like no joke but then also cuddle and order room service so it was an amazing trip and you would 10/10 do it again with him. You loved planning the adventure because you got to go to the beach and the mountains and literally everywhere that you would have wanted but you also would be happy to just get in the car and drive with him next time

Mated (2)

Read Part One
Commissioned by: @knowexoknowlife
Warning: Some violence, Smut
Word Count: 6.1k
"Are you sleeping?" You whisper to Sehun, who had barely said ten words to you since this afternoon's discovery.
"No." He whispers, still rolled onto his side not facing you.
You weren't sure what you could do for him. It's not as though you had planned on having two mates, or like you wanted it. You would never purposely hurt Sehun, but sometimes things work out in a funny way.
"I'm sorry.." you sniffle, unable to stop the tears from falling.
"It's not your fault." Sehun sighs, still not facing you. You wished he would roll over and wrap his arms around you, tell you sweetly that he wasn't mad and it wasn't your fault, and mean it.
Although he coldly said what you wished to hear, you could hear it in his voice that he wasn't convinced it wasn't your fault.
"You don't sound overly convinced." You sigh, wiping away the tears. "I just want us to be okay."
"Because I'm not convinced Y/N. Christ. What am I supposed to do? The girl I love and am meant to be with, is also meant to be with my fucking brother. None of this is okay, I'm not okay." He snaps, abruptly standing up and storming out of the room, making sure to not slam the door too hard.
You crawl out of the bed, looking out the window you can see Sehun running through the field towards the forest, disappearing into the darkness of the trees.
Now the tears really wouldn't stop. You slide down the wall, wrapping your arms around your knees as you lower your head and sob.
Knock
Knock
Your head raises at the sound of light knocking at your door. You quickly wipe your tears before standing up and walking to the door to open it. When you do, you're surprised to see a sympathetic Suho standing there, his head lowered, allowing his shaggy brown hair to fall around his face.
"Are you okay?" He whispers, his voice lowered.
"H-how.." you stutter before he cuts you off.
"Wolves have impeccable hearing." He whispers, raising his head to look at you, his eyes filled with sadness. "Look, Sehun is the youngest, he still has a hard time digesting things, especially big things like this. Give him some time." He sighs. "I wish I could say that I would do anything to help, but I know he would ask me to step aside and I'm afraid I just can't do that." He says, looking you straight in the eyes. "There's something so special about you Y/N, and I refuse to give up without a fight, even if it's my own brother."
Your breath hitches as you take in his words, your heart's pounding as Suho leans his face in closer to yours. "I'll do anything to win your heart." He finishes. He leans in closer, placing a small kiss on your lips before walking back to his room, while you suffer, wondering how you're ever going to make a choice.
You fall asleep as you wait for Sehun to come back, all the crying you've done tiring you out beyond belief.
For the next week you try to talk with Sehun, but he's either gone or ignores you.
He'll talk to you when he's ready, you guessed. But as the week passed, you began to get increasingly more angry. You purposely avoided Suho to make sure you didn't offend Sehun anymore, but you honestly just wanted to spend some time with him.
You couldn't. Not yet. Not until Sehun calmed down. When he showed no signs of stopping, you decided to stop pretending Suho didn't exist. You allow yourself to slowly begin to notice him more, and Sehun would just have to deal with it.
**
When you awake in the morning, you're greeted by a still empty bed, again, and a giant headache. You lay still for a few minutes contemplating what to do. Do you go downstairs and see if he's down there? Do you try to talk to him? Do you stay up here and wait for him?
You decided to put on your big girl pants and head downstairs to find Sehun and talk to him. Enough was enough. The anxiety you felt in roaming through your entire body though was making you feel weak, but you couldn't be like this any longer.
You hold onto the railing as you try to silently creep down the stairs, listening intently to the voices you hear in the living room and kitchen, trying to see if you can hear Sehun's.
You can't.
As you reach the bottom of the stairs, you're met with half smiles by Baekhyun and Yixing, Chanyeol only giving you a quick glance. This was embarrassing.
"Have any of you seen Sehun?" You ask in a whisper.
"I think he went on a run with Minseok." Baekhyun says, trying to give you a smile.
You wished you could just speak with Sehun and get everything sorted out. If he wanted you to reject Suho.. would you be able too? You didn't know, and you didn't want to have to think about making that decision unless it was absolutely necessary, and right now it wasn't.
"Y/N, may I speak with you?" Yixing asks, bringing you out of your thoughts.
"Sure." You say, but before you're able to follow him the back door by the kitchen opens, revealing a sweating and shirtless Suho. Your breath hitches as your eyes slowly trail down from his face to his rock hard abs. "Shit." You whisper as you raise your eyes, locking in with his, unable to break the contact.
"So it begins." You hear someone snap. Looking away from Suho, you catch the back of Sehun as he turns up the stairs, walking away from you.
Looking back at Suho, you shoot him an apologetic smile before running after Sehun. You're not sure why you did it, you didn't truly owe Suho anything, but you felt like you did. Like everything you've given to Sehun, you should give to Suho too.
"You're back.." you say, walking into the room you and Sehun are supposed to be sharing.
"I am. Looks like you sure missed me." He snaps, putting a fresh shirt on.
"I did, actually." You say, beginning to get annoyed. "I haven't seen you all week."
"Oh yeah, it really looked like it. I apologize for interrupting your moment with Suho." He spits, turning to walk out the door.
"Are you fucking serious right now?" You snap. Sehun stops in his tracks, turning his head slightly to look back at you. You stand there, your body full of rage as you cross your arms, waiting for him to answer.
"What?" He asks.
"I said, are you fucking serious? You're acting like a goddamn child." You yell.
"I.." he begins before you cut him off.
"Don't. It's my turn." You stop him. "I get you're upset, trying to wrap your head around this but you're not the only goddamn person struggling here. Did you stop to think about how I may be feeling this while you were throwing your bitch baby tantrum? How I might be handling this? Cause I'm not doing very fucking well, but I guess you wouldn't know because it's been the Sehun Show all fucking week." You yell. "I didn't ask for this. I didn't ask to be something special like the Gemini Mate, but it's happened and now we need to figure it the fuck out. Either get on board, or back the fuck off. Your choice." You finish before storming out the room. You race down the stairs, passing the men who are standing there with their mouths hanging open, and storm towards the forest.
"Fuck that guy." You growl, stomping your way through the woods. You couldn't believe that he was acting that way. It's not like you chose this to be your life. You didn't ever plan for this to happen, but like works in mysterious ways.
After a while of walking, you finally sit down on a large log, taking a few deep breaths, breathing in the fresh air. It took you a few moments of looks around to realize that you had no idea where you were, or what direction you even came from. You tried thinking back to what you remembered seeing, but honestly you had been too mad to really focus on any of your surroundings, your mind had been cluttered with angry thoughts.
"Shit." You whisper as you stand up, walking in the direction you hoped was towards the house.
**
"How long ago did she leave?" Suho snaps at Sehun.
"It's been a while." Sehun admits. "Like 3 hours."
"And you've been in here, not doing a fucking thing? Why didn't you go after her!?" Suho yells.
"I was pissed off! And so was she! I'm sure she just wanted some time." Sehun says.
"It's getting dark now, and you know lone wolves like to prowl this forest. What the fuck are you going to do if one of them catches her?" Suho asks. His heart breaks slightly at the thought of you being taken or injured, he can't let that happen.
Suho rushes out the back door, Sehun follows quickly behind him.
"You stay here!" Suho yells.
"I can't. I can't let anything happen to her, I shouldn't have waited so long." Sehun admits.
"Fine. Take the left side of the forest and I'll take the right." Suho says, running towards his side before his body tears apart and phases into his wolf form.
**
Your stomach drops as you continue to walk, seemingly deeper and deeper into the forest. You can hear the sounds of howling beneath the sounds of leaves crunching as you walk. You're terrified as you heat the sounds of twigs snapping behind you, along with a low whine.
You do your best to pick up your pace, but keep quiet at the same time, unfortunately the heavy breath behind you is coming up quickly.
"Fuck fuck fuck." You whisper as you crouch behind a large log, hoping whatever was behind you will continue on its path and forget about you.
You really hoped, but you weren't that lucky.
As you sat there with your knees to your chest and your eyes squeezed tightly shut, you could feel the hot breath of something down your neck. Tears slowly fell as you continued to try and remain quiet, needing whatever this was to leave now.
But it didn't. Instead you felt a clamp on your bun before you were being dragged from behind the log. You kicked and screamed, but nothing came of it. You opened your eyes as you lay on the forest floor and you're being hovered by a very large white wolf.
You felt uneasy, so you knew this wasn't one of the wolves you had met with Sehun. It must be a lone wolf. You had heard stories about the lone wolves. Violent, angry, generally had zero regard for human life, mated or not. They would take you, keep you for as long as they felt, did whatever they wanted before killing you and disposing of you somewhere. You didn't want that.
Despite you knowing all this information, it still didn't stop you from attempting to plead with him, in hopes that maybe, just maybe he had some shred of care left inside of him.
That wasn't the case.
"Please, please don't take me. I have two mates, which means twice the trouble for you. I'm not worth it, please." You beg. You didn't want to be taken by him. You could feel your heart breaking at the thought of leaving Suho and Sehun behind, never being able to touch Sehun again or loving him, never getting the chance to love Suho. This couldn't happen to you.
The wolf snarled at you, saliva dripping from his snout as he snapped.
"Please." You cry before he lunges for you, his teeth ripping into the flesh of your arm. You let out a loud shriek as his teeth sink further into you.
Seconds later, you hear the sound of another body colliding and the relief of no more teeth in your arm. You hear fighting, turning your head you see the grey wolf snarling before taking a chunk out of the white wolf's back. The lone wolf runs off quickly, whimpering as he goes. You feel yourself fading in and out of consciousness as your almost lifeless body is being picked up, the chest of whoever helped you hot to the touch.
"It's okay baby. I got you." Is all you hear, and Suho's face is all you see before you pass out in his arms as he runs you back to the house.
**
"What the hell happened!?" Yixing yells, as he swipes books and papers off the kitchen table.
"A lone wolf got her." Suho huffs, running his hands through his hair.
"You should wash up. Yixing's got this." Minseok reassures Suho.
"No. I can't leave her! I just found her, I can't.. I just.." Suho breaks. He rushes around the table, grabbing onto your other hand, holding it tightly.
"W-what.. what happened?" Sehun asks as he comes in the front door and sees you lying unconsciously on the table.
"A lone wolf got to her!" Suho yells. "All because you've been too much of a fucking bitch about this situation. We're her mates. We're supposed to protect her! And because of you, I backed off to give you space, but christ, it's been a week and I'm done. She's my fucking mate too, and I refuse to let something like this to happen again because you can't accept it." He snaps.
"I'm sorry.." Sehun whispers. He knew he fucked up when you had yelled at him. He wanted to apologize, but wanted to wait until you had returned and calmed down. And now that you were lying lifeless on the kitchen table, he knew he fucked up even worse. Every sense in his body had told him to go after you but he convinced himself he needed to give you time. He should have listened.
"You're sorry?" Suho snaps, letting go of your hand to rush at Sehun, grabbing the collar of his shirt before slamming him against the wall. "Sorry isn't good enough. Stay away from her for a while. Figure out what you want, because I already know. I want her. I'll take all of her if you don't, so figure it out." Suho snaps, letting go of Sehun before walking back to you and grabbing onto your hand once again while Yixing stitches up your other arm.
**
Hours later, you startle awake, your arm in an immense amount of pain. "Oh my god." You cried, the wound burning.
"Y/N?" You hear from the floor. "Are you okay?" Suho asks as he gets up from the floor, kneeling over the bed.
"It hurts so bad." You cry, your hot tears running down your face. Your arm almost shakes it hurts so badly.
"Here. Yixing said these will help." Suho says, placing some medication in your mouth before giving you some water to drink.
"Thank you." You whisper, already feeling the effects of the medicine. "It works so fast.." you mumble, beginning to doze again.
"It should, it's infused with a special witch herb." He smiles. "Do you need anything else?" Suho asks.
"Cuddle me please." You shiver, your teeth chattering.
Suho happily climbs into his bed and under the covers before wrapping his arm around your waist to pull you in closer to him. This is what he craved, what he needed. And now he finally had it.
The next few days as you recovered, Sehun tried to come see you, but was turned away by Suho or by your voice telling him to go. You weren't ready to face him. You were enjoying your time with Suho and you really didn't want to argue with Sehun.
**
As the week came to an end, you decided to sit down with Suho and Sehun. As much as you wanted to continue in your bubble with Suho, you needed to set boundaries with them both and go over some guidelines.
"I've called you both here today because it's time we had a chat." You begin. "Would either of you like to say anything?" You ask.
"Me." Sehun says. You nod your head as a signal for him to go ahead.
"I'm so sorry for the way I acted last week. It was immature and selfish, and it almost got you killed. I really hope you can forgive me." Sehun whispers, his eyes trained on the wooden floor.
"Of course I do." You smile as he looks up at you. "But no more, please."
"No more." He agrees.
"Now.." you begin to set the rules between the three of you. "I'll spend 3 nights with each of you, it can be 3 nights in a row or switched off and on every night. Last night will be my decision. Either I will pick one of you to spend it with or I'll spend it by myself." You state. "Let's try to limit the jealousy, if we can. This won't be easy for any of us, but we really need to try." You smile.
An hour later, you had finished with the two of them, setting up your rules and boundaries. You had really hoped that it would help ease the tension between the two men because you didn't know if you could take much more of their fighting.
The first three nights you spent with Sehun, allowing him to properly make up with you for his mistakes.
The next night was your night with Suho, and you had been so desperately waiting for this night. You wanted to have a special night with him, since you had already had a few with Sehun and none with Suho. While he was gone, you slipped one of his t-shirts over your head and crawled into his bed, impatiently waiting for him to get home.
You waited. And waited. And waited. The next thing you knew you woke up as the sun was beginning to rise and you felt Suho's strong arm wrapped around your waist. You could feel his large, hard cock poking into your ass, it made your pussy wet. You smirk as you wiggle your hips, grinding your ass against his cock. Suho moans in his sleep as he stretches, pushing his cock out further into your backside. You reach your hand behind you, grabbing onto his cock, gently pumping as you wait for him to wake up.
"Fuck baby." He groans, moving his hand under your shirt and up your body to cup your breast. After he pinches your nipple, he brings his hand back down and in between your legs.
“Mhm, no panties?” He groans, sitting up before placing his body over yours, hovering over you. "Naughty girl." He smiles as he moves down your body and in between your legs.
Suho spreads your legs and then your lips with his fingers before leaning his head forward, licking a long strip up your already wet pussy. You arch your back with a gasp as your hands grip tightly onto the bed sheets.
“You taste amazing” Suho murmurs before diving back in, sucking on your clit. Without taking his mouth away from your pussy, he drapes your legs over his shoulders as he buries his face further in between your legs.
“Fuck” you gasp as he moves from sucking on your clit to flicking it with the tip of his tongue. He continues to work on your clit while slowly inserting his fingers inside you, pumping in and out, making sure to build your orgasm up. Your hands pull at the bed sheets tighter, almost pulling them off the bed with each lick and suck until you’re almost at your peak.
“I’m going to cum” you cry out, your body twisting as your orgasm comes.
Suho abruptly stops, removing his head from between your legs.
“First time you cum will be all over my cock” he growls, standing up to pull down his bottoms. You can hear the low whine and neediness come from inside as he yearns to be inside you.
He pulls down his pyjama bottoms, throwing them off the bed and allowing his fully erect cock spring free. You gasp at the length and thickness of it, your mouth beginning to drool.
Suho kneels down before pulling you up to face him and then force you down on your front, but making sure your ass is up in the air. He licks his fingers before inserting them inside of you, pumping to make sure you were wet enough for his cock.
"You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen." He groans. "I love each and every curve on your body, fuck."
Once he was satisfied, he took his fingers out, making you wait for a few seconds, torturing you.
Without warning he thrusts himself into you fully, giving you no chance of adjusting to his size as he stretches you out completely.
“Oh my god” you scream as he pulls out before harshly thrusting himself back inside of you.
Soho’s hands grip you tightly, digging his hot fingertips into your hips as he fucks you, hard.
“Shit baby girl” he groans, continuing with his thrusts. “You’re so tight."
“Your fucking pussy is amazing." He groans, thrusting faster.
“Fuck me harder” you cry, wanting him to destroy you.
“Yes baby. Now play with your clit” he demands.
You reach your hands in between your legs, rubbing the throbbing bud that so badly needed a release.
Your orgasm doesn’t take long to build up again, but it remains right on the brink of throwing you over the edge.
“Do you need to cum, my baby?” He groans into your ear.
“Yes, please” you cry.
“Okay baby, cum” he demands.
As soon as the words left his mouth, your orgasm rushes through your body, causing you to feel like you were going to collapse. Suho grips onto a clump of your hair, tightly as he rams his cock into you, eagerly chasing his own high.
Within seconds his orgasm explodes through him, shuddering as he releases his hot cum inside of you, spreading it throughout. He let's go of your hair, and pulls himself out of you to help you lay down. Your body is weak, you're tired, barely able to keep your eyes open.
Suho places a blanket over top of you as you drift back off to sleep, feeling happy as ever to have his mate.
**
A few hours later you wake up again, feeling sore but a little more rested and happy. For the first time in a long time you had felt like everything was going to be okay. You struggled as you got out of bed, heading to the door to go downstairs with just Suho's shirt on.
Before you open the door, you see a note on the dresser addressed to you.
My love,
I had to go on a run with the boys, Sehun stayed behind and is waiting for you. I'll see you soon, I love you
- S
You couldn't stop the giant smile from spreading across your face as you read the note over a few more times. He loved you. And you loved him. Sehun loved you, and you loved him. It was nice being loved.
You happily skip down the stairs, excited to spend some time with Sehun.
"There's my baby.." Sehun says, trailing off as he sniffs the air.
"What?" You ask with a small chuckle.
"You smell like his cum." He deadpans, his face no longer happy to see you. Now it's stone cold and angry.
"I'm sorry.. I fell asleep right after." You whisper. You knew you shouldn't feel bad and he wasn't trying to make you feel bad, but you couldn't help it.
"I don't like it." He pouts. "We need to do something about that." He smirks, his tune changing within seconds. Sehun's cock twitches in his jeans as he thinks about fucking you in the living room, filling you up with his cum, having you smell like him rather than another man.
"Oh?" You say before he rushes towards you, pressing his lips to yours harshly.
"Turn around baby." Sehun says, unbuckling his belt buckle and slides his pants, along with his boxers down.
You do as you're told, pressing your front against the wall and spreading your legs.
“It'll be quick baby, don't want to get caught." he whispers in your ear, pumping himself a few times before lining himself up with you.
You cry out and moan as Sehun stretches you out, your pussy still sore from earlier this morning. Your hands press against the wall so harshly your fingers are sore from the pressure.
Sehun fully thrusts himself into you, grunting as he stretches you out.
“Fuck your pussy is so tight” he groans, pulling out of you partially before slamming himself back into you. "You feel so good around my cock."
“Oh my god." You cry out, your face presses against the wall as Sehun grips your waist to keep himself balanced while fucking you.
He throws his head back as he thrusts himself into you, again and again. You can feel your wetness seeping out of you, mixing with Suho's cum and Sehun's pre-cum, coating his cock. Sehun continues to grunt as he rams his cock inside of you, hitting your G spot every time.
“Please don’t stop." you beg.
"Rub your clit." Sehun demands. You reach down in between your thighs and rub yourself, seeking yet another orgasm.
“Oh fuck" you cry out, sticking your ass out a little more.
“I think I’m going to cum" you moan. “Shit" you cry out, your body begins to tremble as your orgasm washes through your body. Your eyes roll back as extremely loud moans leave your mouth.
“Fuck baby" Sehun moans, ramming himself into you, chasing his own high.
You begin to move yourself back, meeting his thrusts as you slightly bounce your ass. “Shit I’m going to cum" he cries out. He reaches around, wrapping his large hand around your neck as he cums inside of you.
"They're back." He grunts, pulling himself from inside you before pulling up his pants and adjusting himself. Your legs are wobbly as you try to stand, the mixture of 2 different mens cum leaking down your leg.
Sehun walks to the kitchen, grabbing a cup of coffee, while you stand there unable to fully walk yet.
"Hey baby.." Suho begins happily until he sees your state. "Are you kidding me?" He snaps at Sehun.
"What?" He asks.
"Look at her? What the fuck did you do?" Suho asks.
"I didn't like her smelling like you." Sehun shrugs.
"When the fuck are you going to grow up and just accept the fact that she loves me too? You can't do this to her, it can be too much. Christ." Suho yells, walking back to you. He picks you up, bringing you to the shower.
Suho strips his shirt off you, helping you in the shower as your body still shakes. You weren't mad at Sehun, you could have said no but you didn't. You wanted him, but he wanted you for the wrong reasons.
You weren't sure if you'd be able to do this whole two mate thing, not with how they had been acting. You couldn't imagine living your life this way, for the rest of your life. You wanted to enjoy your time, not feel like it constantly had to be a competition between the two of them. It was exhausting.
After you were done in the shower with Suho, he dressed you in one of his shirts and tucked you into his bed. He quietly left you alone, but not before you made sure he wouldn't be too mad at his younger brother. You fell asleep relatively quickly.
**
You awoke a few hours later, and stayed in bed, thinking and contemplating about things, when you heard a knock at the door.
"Come in." You whispered. You were surprised to see Yixing standing in the doorway, a small smile on his face. "Hi Yixing." You say, confused.
"Hi Y/N. Look, I'm sorry to come here like this but I can see you're having a hard time and I've been doing some research and well.. I've found something you might be interested in seeing." He says, placing a book on your lap. "The Zutar Coven, they have a spell for Gemini Mates." He whispers, making sure no one else was at the door.
"What does it do?" You ask.
"As far as I know, it destroys the connection between mates, burns it. So you're able to only have one or none if you want" he says.
Destroy the connection? "Don't wolves die if their mate connections are destroyed?" You ask.
"Sometimes, but not all the time. I just thought you'd like to know." He says.
"Thanks Yixing, I appreciate it." You smile. You had quite a bit to think about.
Over the next few days, Yixing's words flooded your mind. You couldn't stop thinking about the opportunity that had fallen in your lap. Although you had no idea who you would choose if it came down to it, it didn't hurt to speak with the witches and gather some Intel in case you had decided you wanted to break a connection.
However, earlier in the day before the two of you were supposed to leave, you told Yixing you didn't want to go anymore. You had realized as much as you appreciated Yixing's efforts in trying to help, you wouldn't be able to choose. Yes they both may need to work on some things, but you did as well. You don't give up in a relationship when things get tough. You have to fight to make it work the way you all want it too and that's what the three of you needed to do. You all had things to change, but you wanted them both, forever.
Yixing didn't like that. He insisted that talking to the witches would be good for you, and that you had to do it. He scared you enough in that moment you had agreed.
You had only told one person where he was really taking you and that person was Baekhyun. Everyone else was under the impression Yixing was taking you out to get to know you better, including Suho and Sehun.
**
As Baekhyun sat at the table with Suho and Sehun, the guilt about where you truly went began eating away at him. Hearing them talk about how much they loved you and wanted you, made him feel like a terrible brother.
"I need to tell you something." Baekhyun huffed, slamming his hands down on the table.
"What?" They both asked in unison.
"Yixing didn't take her to bond. He took her to meet with the Zutar Coven to see about a connection breaking spell. She didn't want to go, he scared her but she thought it would be better to leave you two out of it." He yells, feeling relieved.
Sehun and Suho bolt from the table, busting through the door and phasing to their wolf forms, both knowing very well exactly where the coven resided.
**
"Yixing, I've changed my mind. I don't want to inquire about it. I want to stay with them both." You say, trying to get your arm out of Yixing's tight grip.
"Not your choice anymore." He spits. "He took away my brothers. I take away his mate." He mutters.
"What are you talking about?" You ask, still trying to get free.
"Just shut up." Yixing spits.
In your head, you beg and plead, hoping that somehow Suho or Sehun will hear you and save you.
**
A few hours later, you're panicking while bound to a tree and Yixing is bargaining with the witches. They don't want to do the spell without your consent, but Yixing has no issues doing whatever he needs to do to get them to do what he wants.
"I'll just fucking kill her then. How about that?" He snarls, stalking towards you, sharp teeth showing.
"Fine!" One younger one yells. "We'll do it." She says. "Which one needs the connection burned?"
"Suho." Yixing snaps.
"Why would you burn my connection, Yixing?" Suho asks, walking into the clearing with Sehun beside him. Instantly, you feel relieved.
"You know why!" Yixing yells. "You took my sweet Lexie away from me! And now I finally have a chance to burn your connection. Why wouldn't I?" He yells.
"I didn't take her away, Kris did. She was a wolf hunter Yixing, she was going to kill us all." Suho yells.
"No she wouldn't have. She loved me. And now I hope you'll rot watching the love of your life be happy with another man for as long as you live." Yixing growls. "Do it." He snaps at the witches.
No one moves.
"I said now!" Yixing yells.
"It won't happen, Yixing. Enough. I warned you about doing this shit. I told you I can't have someone in my pack who betrays his brothers. I won't do it, no matter who it is." Suho snarls.
"Ha, so what? You're kicking me out?" Yixing laughs.
"I am." Suho deadpans. "You can either leave now and take on being a Lone Wolf far from here, or Ill kill you, and I will kill you, Yixing, you don't fuck with what's mine. Your choice."
"I'll be seeing you." Yixing says, giving you a wink before disappearing into the forest. You knew in your gut this wouldn't be the last time you would run in with Yixing, but for now you were happy to be free.
**
On your way home with the two men you loved so much, you had reassured Sehun that you weren't going to leave him, despite his jealousy issues and you still loved him. You had spent a bit more time with him since it was your night with Suho again tonight but Sehun had always been that little bit of extra needy when it came to you.
That night as you lay in bed with Suho, your head on his chest, he sighs as he contemplates asking you a question. He's unsure if he wants to ask, knowing he might not like the answer you give him.
"Baby.." he begins.
"Mhm?" You respond, your eyes closed.
"If you had picked someone to burn the connection with.. who would it have been?" He asks.
You lay there for a second, quietly which makes Suho feel as though you're finding a polite way to say it was him.
"Honestly?" You ask.
"Yes." He says.
"I don't think I would have been able to choose. You both have things I would change and things that I wouldn't. But i don't think I could live without either of you." You smile.
Suho isn't sure about your answer, ever since he was little he's been fighting for attention and trying to be the best he could be without it ever going anywhere. He always seemed never good enough, never measuring up to his brother who would have made a better alpha, according to his father. He knew you deserved better than him, and Sehun would probably be the one who you would have chosen, but he's selfish. He needed you like he needed to breathe, so he would push himself to be the man you deserve even if it killed him, because you were worth it.
**
The next morning you watched Suho as he watched you running around the yard with Sehun. You can see on his face he's not alright, regardless if he tells you he's fine, you know better. You can see the look of regret, or maybe sadness in his wistful smile. Something that in the future, would reside permanently.
Later on, you sat at the kitchen table with Sehun and Suho, laughing at a lame joke Sehun had told. As you looked at your two mates, you couldn't hold back your smile. Regardless of the rough times the three of you had, you knew there would be good ones right around the corner and with that you knew you all could get through anything. You finally felt complete now that you were mated, if only that feeling would have lasted forever.

The whole pregnancy thing was undoubtedly a massive shock when you had finally told him. At first he wasn’t even sure it was his. Granted you slugged him for even suggesting you had been having an affair but he couldn’t help it! The idea of impregnation was pretty much impossible as far as they knew. He had no heartbeat, the blood in his veins was dead and black, he kind of assumed by that point his gun was shooting blanks. That is until you began rejecting anything that wasn’t blood or meat. Every day he could see more of that reality coming into play. At first he thought maybe he had just imagined it, but when your stomach grew in really sank in.
He was terrified beyond belief knowing he’d soon be responsible for a living, breathing thing- er baby- guh! The word freaked him out. No one even warned him what came with it. Well, Dwayne tried to but those books were nasty. Especially the pictures. Paul tried his best to sit through them but it just stressed him out! There wouldn’t be a doctor! There would be no sterilized hospital bed where a team of nurses would be on standby if there were complications- hell, they wouldn’t be able to know if there even were any complications! That’s what scared him more than anything. You both were utterly in the dark. Were you healthy? Was the baby healthy? Could this kill you if they weren't careful? Ultrasounds were out too, so he couldn't even know if it was a boy or a girl. The uncertainty of it all was torture!
The only way he knew they were still alive was from his own bizarre connection to them. Sure his mental powers were never as clean cut as David’s, but he could still feel their emotions inside you. It was raw. There were no clear thoughts. Even the emotions would pile over each other. Hungry, tired, anxious, hyper, mad, happy. It was almost like there was more than one consciousness in there, but he just figured it was your own heartbeat and emotions clouding the baby's.
Hormones were wild between you both. You wanted sex more than you ever had before, and at first he was all for it. Being the mother of his unborn child brought out a desire that was utterly foreign to him. Yeah he loved you to death before, but now… he couldn't keep his hands off of you. The first few months it was wild, but the bigger you got the more worried he was that something could happen if he lost control. Okay, well, as long as he was careful right? But, things did not go exactly to plan when a firm kick pressed on his erm… Needless to say it certainly freaked him out. Then came the morning sickness.
Fuck whatever liar came up with that name. “Morning”? Try morning, noon, night, and the ass crack of dawn. Twenty-four seven. He hated seeing you hugging a trash bin, panting between excruciating heaves that made your stomach spasm. Paul could only hold your hair back while you gurgled out sobs. It was even harder knowing he was partially responsible for putting you in this position to begin with. Afterwards he’d carry you back to your bed. Yeah, bed. All the guys had felt that you needed something way better than a couch to crash on. There were more pillows and blankets than you could count. Piles on the bed, scattered on the floor, stacked up in the corners. With a bit of searching they’d found a pocket-cave branching just off their own that kept you out of sight and even better, nearby. What Paul really couldn’t account for was how frickin’ clumsy you were!
Oops you just banged your knee! Well looks like you accidentally nicked your hand while peeling a freaking apple! Paul nearly ripped a guys head off for bumping into you on the boardwalk just to cut in line with his stupid friends. Eventually he just refused to leave your side during the second trimester when he found a bruise on your stomach. You didn’t have the heart to tell him those were from the baby kicking. While the guys went hunting he’d just lay beside you in bed gushing over your taut belly. The baby always stirred when he spoke, even more so when he’d serenade them. His voice always made your face heat up, and inside you could feel your child eagerly pressing up. While Paul was certainly uneasy about his encroaching parenthood he was over the moon the first time the baby really kicked. Even if it seemed scary he was so excited he could hardly sleep most nights. Every day he'd wonder when they'd get here, bombarding you with thousands of questions.
"Do you think they'll have your eyes? I bet if it's a boy he'll be a bad ass like his dad, huh," he asked. There was almost a glee to his voice, it was so adorable to watch him shed that panic for just a moment to fantasize about the baby. Anything. Teaching them to play guitar, taking them on their first hunt. He didn't care if it was a boy or girl. Part of you really hoped it'd be a little girl.
“They probably won’t get any eye color until the fifth month I think,” you’d remind him, flipping through the aged pages of a baby book. "I do know if it is a boy he's gonna be so much like you."
"Unless it's a girl," he pondered, tapping your belly like it was an over ripe melon, watching it stirr with life. "Oh god you'll break so many hearts. But no boyfriends. Or girlfriends. Only dad."
"Babe thats not gonna be for years," you assured, petting his head. "You can't keep them from dating when they're old enough."
"Uh, the fuck I can't," he retorted, his hand kicked again. "Yeah I said it. No dating for you"
As they grew you could feel something was.. Off. Granted you couldn’t do much to check but, it almost felt like there was more than one heartbeat...
Your due date was slowly rolling closer as summer shed it's long, hot days for the chilled season of autumn. Tonight was a late, stormy October night. Most of Santa Carla was holed up at home hoping it wouldn’t rain tomorrow on Halloween. Paul grumbled slurping at a blood bag laying on his side as he propped his head on his hand, currently bored out of his mind while you carved at a pumpkin with Marko.
“I think it needs more teeth,” you’d say to yourself out loud.
Marko peeked over, titling his head to the side. “More eyes too.”
All the guys decided to stay back tonight. It wasn’t just the rain, all of them were nervous to leave you alone. None of them were doctors, but even they could tell your stomach was much bigger than expected. Dwayne was flipping through an old book while David had just gotten back from a hunt.
Ever since you hit your third trimester each of them took turns gathering blood. A few blood bags alone would not cover it for four hungry vampires and an honorary vamp who had a ton of cravings. Instead they'd carry four or five empty milk jugs that'd be filled to the brim with sloshing, goopy red fluid.
"Guys, you oughta go get something to eat, you don't need to watch me twenty-four seven," you insist, carefully dragging the knife through the thick gourd's flesh.
"This wasn't up for debate last time, it’s still not now," David retorted, tossing one of the jugs Dwayne's way. Marko caught a second one, eagerly knocking back a swig. The sight made you want to throw up again. It was slow, like a thick molasses dyed crimson with globs of congealed plasma. Okay looking at the pumpkin again before you had to puke.
"Don't worry about us, Y/N," Marko insisted with red stained teeth, tossing the now half empty jug to Paul. "It's only a few more months. Blood is blood."
Paul stood up, swooping behind you with his arms around your shoulders. "Speakin' of blood kitten, you need to eat." You looked at the jug as he set it on the table and immediately scrunched up your nose. Now, it'd been seven and a half months of drinking it, so you'd gotten used to the bizarre taste of salty, vinegary cherries with a metallic aftertaste. It always made your body heat up, the feeling itself was better than any booze you'd tried. But the texture. Oh god the fricking texture! Blobby, goopy, slimy- no!
"Uuuugh," you hesitated, only to have Marko push it towards you. “Can’t I just have a raw steak or something, it’s not nearly as gnarly as straight blood.”
"Don't be picky, you need to eat."
You glanced back at Paul who was just pouting behind you. "Come on babes, drink up."
Once again. Thick, soupy but warm fluids ran down the back of your throat. Everything felt heated, spreading from your stomach to each of your limbs. This time you felt an ache in the base of your abdomen. It was enough to incite a small gasp. And with that suddenly each of them had sat up.
"What's wrong, what's going on," Paul quickly asked, placing a hand over your stomach.
Marko had stood up, looking at you with a furrowed brow. "Is it-?"
"Guys, guys," you interrupt. "I'm okay, I swear. It was just a cramp."
It wasn't even a surprise when Paul lifted you up again bridal-style. "Paul,c’mon, I’m fine, really."
"Nope, nope I am not even risking that shit babes. C'mon kitten I'll lay with ya," he insisted, kicking anything on the floor out of his way. But again it ached. This time it lasted two minutes. You clung to him, trying to take a breath. This wasn’t your average false contraction that would only occur maybe every hour. "Paul- Paul it's not stopping."
"Wait wait wait what," Paul asked in rapid following, gently setting you down. Marko had gotten up to help you stand with Paul on the other side. A sharp pain wrapped around your waist. Now another two minutes. It was enough to make you double over with your hands over your stomach.
"Shit oh shit wait hold on." Paul was in a panic. He wasn't ready! The baby wasn't supposed to be there for another month! It was too soon!
You, on the other hand, were far too busy trying to keep yourself standing. It wasn't just your abdomen. It was your stomach, all the way up your back, your womb felt like it was being torn open from inside. Dwayne jumped over the sofa when the two blondes failed to move, lifting you up. Your jeans were soaked, sharp pains were faster, harder, any time another contraction squeeze you let out an agonized cry.
They all made a mad dash for your room, propping you up against a pile of pillows. "No, no wait, don't look," you insisted to the others as Paul tried to help you get your soggy jeans off.
"I'm about to help you push a baby out, and you're getting embarrassed by us seeing your underwear," Dwayne questioned
"Shut up, turn your fuckin head," Paul snapped. Carefully he draped a blanket over your legs, pulling off your jeans. There was utter fear across his face. He was so afraid of what this could do to you.
"Hey.. its okay," you assured him, cupping his face. Well, okay was a bit of an overstatement. Still, the tender touch seemed to provide some small ease as he placed his hand over yours. Again, you assured him it'd all be okay. Marko came running in with a bucket of warm water, David was grumbling about carrying over a mountain of towels, Dwayne leaned over Paul tapping him hard on the back of his shoulder. "Paul you need to check how dilated she is."
"WHAT?"
It was time for both of you chiming in disbelief. "No no, wait Dwayne man, I can't-!"
"If she pushes before she's ready, the baby will get hurt in the process," he interrupted him, grabbing Paul by his shoulders. "You gotta do it, man, I can't do it for you."
"The fuck, why me?!"
"Paul?!" It was your turn to question his logic and the blonde threw up his hands, clutching at his head trying to think.
"I'm sorry! I'm panicking!"
"Dude Paul," Marko shouted.
"What?!"
"Listen, man, this can't be good for either of them. Nut up, dude," he assured him, patting his back. Paul looked at you, still trembling on your bed. You were just as scared as him, bottom lip trembling, he could even see your shoulders shaking. "...okay…"
The feeling was so uncomfortable. You couldn't even focus between the throbbing pains that shot up your back and the tearing pull between your legs. Tears burned your eyes, you thought you might pass out. Marko was rapidly wiping away sweat from your face, letting you hold his hand. Even if you broke it, unlikely, it'd heal in an hour anyways.
"Okay how many fingers can you manage," Dwayne asked, getting a strange look from Paul. "Just tell me how many, you asshole.:
"It's like, all my fingers man I dunno what that means."
"Go to her man, I got this," he assured, pushing him up to you. Paul climbed up on the bed beside you holding you tightly in his arms with your shoulder nestled against his armpit with one arm over your shoulder and the other you immediately snatched his hand, panting rapidly. "Shh slow down baby, slow down."
"God it fucking hurts," you whine, throwing your head back on the pillow. Blood stained the bed, a thick pink-red spot on the blanket spreading out. Your face was completely flushed as a tight pressure slowly dragged down your back that made your toes curl. If Paul wasn't pinning you in place you would be writhing. There was a horrid fire in your body, there were no words left in you, only screams. Dwayne's urges to push were muffled, the ache in you back slowly pulled lower until you were able to hear them. A thick gurgle followed by high pitched, raspy wailing. While Dwayne had pulled the infant into a thick, fluffy towel something felt wrong. It still hurt. Your stomach felt no relief, in fact you felt it pull and ache again. "Wa...wait i.. no it's-it's not done, I'm not done," you whimper in a panic.
"Wait what the hell do you mean you aren’t done?! I thought there was just one?!”
Paul looked over at Dwayne, who in turn ran to David and passed the swaddled newborn his way much to his dismay. “Just hold them for a minute man, we weren’t exactly expecting more!
“I got it,” Marko volunteered, climbing off to bed to hold the baby carefully in his grasp. Your screams tore through, a second wave of pain reviving old agony. There was little relief as the same horrid tension in your back spread out. Paul coaxed you through it, but somehow it hurt even worse than before.
“No,” you cried, shaking your head. Your face burned, tears streaming down your face leaving your vision completely blurry. “No no no, I can’t, let me go! I can't, I can’t! Paul, I can’t-!”
“Baby, listen you can do this! You got this, yes you fucking do,” he yelled over you holding your head to his shoulder. “Listen to me. C’mon you fucking got this, kitten! Don’t you give up, don’t you dare fucking give up now!”
With everything you had you screamed until your throat felt raw, pushing as hard as you could until finally, finally… it stopped. A huge wave of relief made your muscles go limp. Two. You just had given birth. To twins. The realization had finally hit Paul asw he looked up at Marko still holding his first born. “Are they…”
“Dude, you got a girl,” he beamed, carefully passing the swollen new born half-awake clinging to the towel. Occasionally her grey eyes squinted open, making trembling whimpers until she nestled back into sleep.
You managed to catch your breath, Marko helping you lay down while Dwayne circled around with your son. A boy too. You couldn’t help but laugh through tears, finally able to see his face after so many months of waiting. Paul couldn’t even hold back tears, laughing like an idiot as he pulled you both in his arms. “Fuck man… oh shit I’m a fucking dad,” he choked out, trying to hide his tears.
“Let it out man,” Marko teased, patting his shoulders.
“Shit man I can't stop crying... they’re so perfect.” Paul ran a hand gently over his son’s head still softly crying in your arms, watching him soothed as he clung to his finger. He looked you in the eyes, both of you just in utter awe that you brought not one, but two lives to the world. Nothing but tears and smiles between you. It was October 31st, 2 am, and you had spent the past four and a half hours of Hell to bring your twins (Girl Name) and (Boy name). Paul could not even fathom the amount of love he was feeling, trailing kisses all over your lips and cheeks. “Happy Halloween, kitten.”
You couldn’t help but laugh, laying your head back against his chest just unable to tear your eyes away from your beautiful new family after so many hours of grueling pain, so much waiting, in the end it was worth more than either of you had ever dreamed.
“Happy Halloween, babe…”

Sincerely, aches and pains
Characters: Youngbin x Reader
Genre: Fluff
Words: 2818
Summary: You always knew this time would come, as it does, however the pain was always the same- leaving you beyond exhausted at the most unexpected of times. Fortunately, you had the most caring and compassionate person to lean on, Youngbin ^~^
A/N: This was originally supposed to be a optional bias fic but after coming back to it in my drafts, all of a sudden I pictured Youngbin *giggles* Honestly, I was on my period when I wrote this so all those descriptions is my pain mirrored in my writing.
It may have been winter, but the sun was still as unforgiving as ever in the morning. To battle the little demons that loved to disturb your sleep, you completely closed the curtains bound by a clip. Ridiculous you knew, but all in the good name of sleep. For this exact reason, the room was shrouded in darkness, however, something was amiss. At an unreasonable time, you threw off the covers feeling warm. From an unknown point, you sensed weak pain radiating to the surface. Snapping out of a daze, your eyes squeezed shut tightly as the pain powered through whatever was stopping it earlier. It must have been scientific, because the exact same pain was mirrored in the sides of your forehead.
Moaning, you tried to move but could feel your bones creaking like a table with weak legs. Realisation hit you that you must have been on your period and the pain had exhausted your body even though you were asleep when the whole process started. Your first thought was to distract yourself from the pain so leaning over, you picked up your phone. Without the blue light filter, the harsh light illuminated the room and pierced through the safety of the darkness. Wincing, the lids of your eyes struggled to open so you just shut them and set the phone aside.
For the first time this morning, you recognised the pain. It was running its course in your body and the worst part? It had just started. Every other part of you was fine; your eyes would be better, your legs would be able to take you places and your hands would serve their function. However, the pain wasn’t just light, it took out whatever energy you would normally have in the morning. This left you frustrated since you couldn’t even do the simplest of things without feeling that discomfort lingering at a particularly large point in your lower stomach.
Almost slipping back down, you found the last bit of remaining strength in your arms and pushed yourself up. Sitting up the pain intensified, however you couldn’t tell if you were just more coherent now to recognise the pain or if it had truly gotten worse within the last couple of minutes. Doubling over, you thought about Youngbin and wondering if he had any work today, debating whether to call him or not. Initially not wanting to worry him, the fact that he was supposed to be here at half past two came back to you. Fumbling around in the dark, your hands wandered the rough carpet, finding your phone. You made a spontaneous decision to just lay on the floor because even though it was a bit coarse, maybe the ground could make the pain go away.
The continuous buzzing of the phone scared you because it wouldn’t stop. Not wanting to face the bright glare of the screen, you answered ‘’Hey’’ without knowing who was on the other end of the call. Under ricocheting pain, you felt a little annoyed that you had to speak to someone but that quickly disappeared upon hearing a familiar voice on the other side. ‘’Youngbin?’’ you recognised with a little smile in your voice. ‘’Hey babe, did I wake you up?’’ he spoke with a little tease following with, ‘’I’m sorry though’’ making you flush hearing the pout in his tone. ‘’You didn’t, I woke up pretty early’’ you said. With absolutely no warning, a pain struck down what you were about to say next. Unusual silence, Youngbin asked worryingly, ‘’Babe, is everything okay? Are you alright?’’, the latter question as a caution to soothe his worries.
Hearing the sound of plastic rustling in the background, you tried to get back on the call saying, ‘’Yea, but today I woke up early because of my period’’. Alarmingly, he said, ‘’Oh no, you must’ve had a terrible morning then. In that case- please don’t tell me that you are on the floor right now. Sleep on the bed under the covers and by the way, I’m walking to your house.’’ and while you giggled at the first part, it was the latter that caught your focus. ‘’You’re in the area?’’ while asking him, you also felt excited. Finally, you didn’t have to wait for hours to get some cuddles and affection, something that happened on a daily basis but today you needed it more than ever. ‘’I wanted to surprise you but half way realised that you might not be awake but knowing that I’m closer now that you're in pain is a relief. At least, I don’t have to take two trains back’’ chuckling a little as he said the last part. ‘’Hey!’’ you say, straining, albeit a little softly. ‘’I’m kidding babe, kidding’’ he whispered trying to fake soothe you knowing that you got the joke.
‘’I’m passing by a grocery, is there anything you’d like me to get you?’’ and you suddenly remembered the pool of crimson red blood collecting at the centre of your underwear. Wincing at the thought of the smell you were going to run into when cleaning that later, you pushed aside the thought and replied, ‘’Hmm, maybe chocolate covered peanuts and whatever else you want so we can have fake lunch together later’’. Fake lunch was basically lunch but with junk food as a substitute for real food and it had actually been Youngbin who first suggested it. It was your little thing and contrary to popular belief, you didn’t do it very often. Eating tons of snacks gave you the feeling that you were going to throw up but you could feel that today was something else altogether. ‘’Fake lunch sounds good. What about pads?’’ he inquired to which you responded, ‘’I already have pads at home. Thank you though, I can’t wait for you to get here’’.
The smile on your face mirrored the smile in his voice when he said, ‘’I can’t wait to see you as well. Take care while I get there so sleep on the bed or try to freshen up. I know I’ll find you on the sofa anyways.’’ Coughing a little due to the recurring pain, you laughed saying, ‘’I’ll try, you know? It hurts so don’t forget, I’m waiting. See you from the sofa, babe.’’. ‘’Oh babe’’ you could hear the despair in his voice when he spoke knowing that you were currently in pain having witnessed it first- hand on multiple occasions. Immediately following his previous words he said, ’’Stay under the blankets and hold on, I’ll try to get there as quick as I can. See you soon babe, love you.’’ ‘’Love you too’’ you shyly replied as the call ended and setting the phone aside, you groaned over the amount of pain hitting your sides at full force.
Trying to roll over, you quickly realised what a bad idea it was as the left side of your body was completely engulfed in discomforting recovery from numbness from being on one side for too long. Deciding that enough was enough and that the pain wouldn’t stop, you stumbled as you tried to get up and walk to the bathroom (not forgetting to catch new shorts, underwear and a pad on the way) as you made your way there. Hunched over, you completed your business and swapped your stained clothes for new ones, mixing them in hot water and leaving them to sit in the bucket for an unknown period of time. A couple of hours should do for them you thought, as thoughts of resting immediately occupied your mind.
Overwhelmed by the lack of energy, you decided to rest on the sofa, chuckling as your thoughts went back to the conversation you had with Youngbin earlier. Guess I’ll actually be on the sofa then. Going back to your room, you found the thick, fluffy blanket you slept with. Dark blue with circular patterns of white, grey and light blue, you carried it to the living room. Plopping on the sofa and finding the remote, you shifted through Netflix tired of seeing the same shows. Once you found a show, you developed a bit of an obsession for it and nothing else seemed right after that. It was also hard for you to find a show that you liked even though you loved plenty of genres. Moving over to Disney Plus, you watch Secrets of the Zoo from National Geographic which was interesting because it took you behind the scenes of the process with the animals and everything. Couple of minutes into the episode, you heard the sound of the door opening and it hardly took a second for you to know that he was here.
Excitement coursed through you as you debated whether to get up or stay on the sofa. In the midst of doing so, you saw a head peak into the doorway from the corner of your eye. Smiling as you turned, you greeted your boyfriend with extended arms and coming to you, he wrapped his arms around you, sitting the both of you onto the sofa. Into his embrace, you whispered a little, ‘’I missed you so much.’’ to which he instantly replied, ‘’I’ve missed you a lot as well sweetheart’’. Placing a delicate kiss to the crown of your head, he said, ‘’Let’s do something fun, okay? To take your attention away from the pain’’ and you nodded your head in agreement against his chest. ‘’Let me go get a hot bag for you’’ but you refused to let go of him as he tried to get up. Smiling at how adorable you were he said, ‘’It’ll only be a minute and then I’ll be back, I promise’’. A light bulb went off in your head as you looked into his eyes and said, ‘’It takes more than a minute to heat up the water and then carefully pour it into the bag, so don't make promises you can’t keep’’ with a lightness and hint of quip to your remark.
A hand to his mouth to conceal his laughter, his soft hands reached to remove the hair covering your face, holding your face in his hands. ‘’So you don’t want it?’’ he lovingly questioned, cocking his head to the side. Giving up any strength and resigning your face in his hands, you spoke, ‘’I do but I don’t want you to go’’. Looking at the sadness in your eyes, he started to feel indecisive about letting you go or staying on the sofa with you but made the smart decision to get the hot water bag. It will only help her feel better, he thought. Plus, he wouldn’t be that far away in case you needed any help or felt any more pain. Squeezing his eyes in thinking of how much you were struggling right now, he removed himself from your embrace and tucked you into the covers. With a tender kiss to your forehead, he walked to the kitchen, grabbing the kettle and filling in water, setting it to heat. Finding the water bag in the cabinet across him, he set it down looking back over to you.
His chest hurt, knowing that you felt exhausted even though you had just woken up. Not only that, your head must have throbbing in pain because you were covering your eyes, hoping the lack of light would ease the pain. It reminded him of the first time he witnessed you on your period. He always knew that it hurt but only realised the true extent after he found you lying on the floor, clutching your stomach in agony. You weren’t afraid of telling him everything about periods but also because he wanted to know in what ways he could help you and so he tried to find out a little about what he could do to relieve the pain. Feeling helpless, there were other things he could do like comforting you with affection, which you loved but he couldn’t just stay on the side lines and watch you in pain. Thinking about how much you loved affection, he laughed a little as his mind wandered to your reactions. You would turn a little shy and try to reciprocate whatever he did, especially your first time giving him a kiss.
The sound of the switch turning off caught his attention and he gently poured the hot water into the bag, careful not to spill any and hurt himself in the process. Checking to see if the bag was leaking any water, he started to make his way to you when it didn’t. Crouching in front of you, he handed you the bag which you took, murmuring a ‘’thank you babe’’. Having laid your head on the armrest before, you shifted your position so that he could sit beside you. Taking a seat, you laid your head on his chest, seated in between his legs. His head immediately rested on the top of yours as he asked, ‘’What were you watching?’’. Taking his hands in yours, you played with his fingers asking, ‘’Do you know that show I told you about earlier, Secrets of the Zoo?’’. He nodded and you slowly continued, ‘’Yup that one and in this episode, they are celebrating Mac, the gorilla’s birthday and it's the sweetest.’’.
‘’That’s so cute. By the way, are you hungry? I bought some stuff to eat’’ he said, singing out the last part to bring up your energy. Attention on the bag, the corners of your eyes crinkled as you tried to reach for the bag that was on the table saying, ‘’Oh? I’m really hungry, what did you bring?’’. Smiling he reached for the bag before you, your fingers wiggled a little, inquisitive as to what was inside the bag. Handing over the bag to you, a bright smile lit up your face as you saw the crisps, nougat and chocolate bars, sweet bread, chocolate milk and Neapolitan ice cream. Seeing your smile even through the pain made him delighted as it meant that you were happy and at least that took away whatever power the pain had over you.
Grasping the underside of your bare legs, he shifted them so that they were over his lap. Unable to bend that much, you removed your head from his chest and laid it on the sofa, so that you were now face to face with him. Tender and caring eyes met yours and without hesitation, the both of you met in a kiss. Warmth radiated throughout your chest, as his lips encased yours. Hands found your sides as your own gradually made their way to his cheeks. Earnestly, he caught your bottom lip in between his lips and the two of you settled in a pace of your own. If you were to describe it, it would be like walking through the fields in the midst of summer, the scent of buttercups looming in the air while the birds elegantly chirped away, busy in conversation. The sun’s rays were bright but not harsh; instead they gently caressed your skin as you moved from the shade and out into the open, unafraid. The miniature leaves, part of a larger plant, swayed to a tune of their own, every time the wind blew. Unapologetically, the wind and the plants and the trees made way as you strolled through the depths of nature.
Leaning apart, the two of you softly caught your breath staring at one another with fondness and benign intimacy. Moving hair that has fallen into your eyes, his fingers lingered at the sides of your head and held the back of your neck. Overcome with the whirling combination of being dazed from the kiss that managed to make you ignore the pain, you captured his lips in an envelopment suddenly feeling the desire to show him all that you could give him. Returning your kiss, he felt that your love for him was intrinsic to the essence of your personality. You had so much to give, that in loving you, he felt encouraged to openly convey his feelings. When he first realised his feelings for you, it was your words that led him to confess knowing that you wouldn’t hurt him in any way. Seeing you in pain made him unhappy while your giddiness made him beam and feeling the need to protect you, he knew that he would stay by your side.
Breaking the kiss to take one more breath, you kept one leg on his while setting the other one on the sofa and leaning your head on his chest, feeling comfortable from the radiating warmness between you two. Arms wrapped around your centre, lacing his hands with your own as he held the hot water bag. He whispered into your ear, ‘’What about those chocolates?’’ making you giggle as you nodded your head in agreement.

Jagged cuts, barely scabbed lashings, pale skin stained red…Loki flinching away from your touch with such a wince of pain you may as well have sliced him open again.
The memory is definitely still yours.
It’s stayed on through the weeks, in your new office and devoid of any fake-boyfriends and blackmail threats—which makes for a fairly quiet work life.
Since the discovery of Loki’s double, security in Stark towers has tripled. Now you can’t go anywhere without an escort, you’ve been gifted a new taser, and you can call yourself personally aquatinted with the Avengers—though that might be your least favourite parts of the day.
They’re nice, you guess, but trying to keep up your story when Tony Stark and the Black Widow are grilling you with questions only gets harder by the minute.
To make matters worse, they’ve been asking about your little faux-boyfriend, too. You had to settle on a backstory, how you met, what he did before Stark Industries (which you vaguely remember him mentioning shield), all without speaking a word to the god in question for the past three weeks.
As far as you’re concerned, you fake-broke up. But like, for real.
You don’t want to see him. You don’t want to talk about Laing, or Loki, or anything that’s ever happened between the two of you, but they bring up the day you met and almost killed him, they ask you if he threatened revenge, if he hinted a second attack, and you say no.
Over and over, you say no.
At this point, though, you are pretty certain that revenge isn’t Loki’s motive. You’re not quite sure what could be taking its place, but bloodlust or pure “evilness” aren’t options anymore. If they were, he wouldn’t still be treating his patients as Dr. Laing, and he certainly wouldn’t have just stopped and knelt next to the thin woman sitting in front of the Tower, hugging a small boy to her chest.
Yourself on your way to work, too, you immediately duck back around the building on the corner, not wanting him to know you’re watching. Whatever he’s doing, this is all Loki…well, Laing. Not trying to keep up another cover or impress anybody, right?
He speaks too quietly for you to hear from your distance, but the mother, you guess, has tears in her eyes as she cradles the coughing boy and pleads with Dr. Laing.
Loki stands, and your heart twists. Of course he’s leaving her there, her and her child all alone. You curse yourself for being surprised.
You’re about to march out there yourself and demand that Loki take them in, threaten to rat him out if he doesn’t, but before you can, Loki’s back by her side, holding out a hand to help her to her feet.
Your jaw drops.
Loki—Laing, or whoever the hell possessed him—carefully takes the little boy from her arms, laying a hand over his forehead and saying something to the mother with a soft smile.
A smile you’ve never seen on either of his faces.
Still quietly talking to the mother, he takes them to the elevator, casting a wary eye around the fairly empty lobby as you hurry to keep up with them. With a split second to make your decision, you run through the doors after them.
Loki gives you a tired, incredulous look.
“What floor?”
“Same as you,” you reply with an all-too-cheery smile.
He doesn’t seem too happy to have gained your company.
The elevator ride goes by in an uncomfortable silence, the wanted criminal holding a sick child and offering his mother a few strained smiles while you watch on, trying to comprehend what the hell is going on.
Luckily it’s over soon, and you quickly turn the opposite way from the strange little trio, pretending to go the other way before turning around and sneaking after them to Laing’s office.
If you’re not careful, your assigned guards are going to come looking for you. Technically they were supposed to meet up with you the moment you arrived on premise, but today, you’d rather see what Loki’s up to on your own.
The strange little trio is already in the room, the little boy laying on the examination table while Laing looks over him. That’s strange, but the strangest part is the fact that he’s still smiling—at the mother.
She’s slowly breaking down, you can tell.
You can’t look away, peeking through the window to the exam room as Loki sits the boy up, trying to console the mother as she drops her head to her hands, shoulders shaking.
Loki steps away from her and looks right at you.
“Come in here.”
Startled, you jump away from the window and hurry to the door. “Need any help, uh, Doctor?”
He just grabs you around the arm and drags you outside.
“Let go of me—”
“I need you to distract her,” he whispers, and surprisingly lets go. “The boy is sick, I can’t help him without a bit of my own help, but she can’t see.”
“O-okay.” You blink at him in shock. “That’s it? No scheming, you’re just helping them?”
Loki sighs, rubbing a hand over his face. “They can’t pay. I’m not going to let her child die when all it would take it a wave of the hand. Will you help me?”
You try not to let the shock—and blatant disbelief—show on your face.
“Sure…”
“Just comfort her,” he tells you, ushering you back to the room. “Keep her distracted and please, please stop her crying.”
The woman looks up when you enter the room, her eyes bloodshot and tear-brimmed.
“Thank you,” she whispers, and Loki quickly returns to the boy’s bedside.
You plaster on a friendly smile and sit down next to her, drawing her attention towards yourself.
“Is this your son? Lo-Laing will help him, don’t worry.”
She nods, and you see Loki moving out of the corner of your eye to cover what he’s doing. “He’s been getting worse and worse, and no one will see us,” she explains quietly. “Dr. Laing is the first person to help us, y-you’re very lucky to be with him.”
“Oh, no, no,” you laugh, wishing Loki would hurry up. “No, we’re not together, I just work with him.”
“Still.” She smiles, wiping her nose with the back of her hand. “I can’t thank you enough.”
You’re quite sure what to say to that. Of course, she has no clue who she’s really dealing with, and for a split second, you nearly forget, too.
No murderous sociopath would be handing a freshly-healed little kid a lollipop, right?
He certainly looks the part, smiling and ruffling a hand through the kid’s hair, standing there in his lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck, lifting the little boy off the table to run back to his mother.
“Get him something to eat,” he tells her with a smile, a fake, phony little smile, and you can’t help but stare when he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a handful of bills. “Here. He needs food and rest, as do you, and if anything else seems off, you know where to find me.”
By the time Loki has escorted them back down to the lobby, you’re left alone in the exam room, trying to make sense of what just happened and trying to decide what on earth to do with this information.
That was…helpful.
That was unlike Loki, that’s for sure.
When he eventually returns to the room, you’re still sitting there, waiting.
“Did you want a candy, too?”
You don’t respond, staring as he trudges around the room, prepping it for the next patient.
“I assume you haven’t forgiven me.” He casts a quick glance over to you, getting nothing in return. “I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t forgive something that went into my mind to play games, either.”
“You didn’t do anything to me,” you remind him stiffly. “I still remember everything I saw. Someone hurt you, you have scars to prove it, and I still know that.”
“You compromised my cover.”
Shaking your head, you can’t help but laugh. “I didn’t compromise you, you blew your own cover. You’re weak, aren’t you?”
“What does that matter to you?”
“I’m trying to understand what’s going on, because as far as I can tell, you’re not who you’re pretending to be. Can’t you just explain what happened to Thor? He’s your brother, I’m sure he—”
“I am not hiding from your little heroes,” Loki snaps, slamming the cabinet he was rifling through shut. “They are the least of my concerns, and I’d much appreciate if you would leave them out of our interactions completely.”
You give a small huff of annoyance, crossing your arms with a pointed glare. “I don’t believe it, sorry. If you were really some crazy serial killer, you wouldn’t have just helped that lady and her kid.”
“Maybe,” Loki/Laing sneers, “I was luring them into my trap. Maybe that’s what I’m doing to you, hm? You certainly can’t seem to get enough of me.”
“No, I think you’re scared of something.”
“I think it’s time for you to leave,” Laing smiles back, holding the door open with a sweep of his arm.
“You’re running from something, you’re hiding from something,” you continue, a small smile of your own playing at your lips. “Aren’t you?”
Backed into the hallway but trying to stay one step ahead of him, you stare at him expectantly as he furrows his brow, no doubt annoyed beyond belief that you keep pressing the subject.
Maybe he was about to answer you, but now you’ll never know—one of your guards comes running to your side.
“You’re supposed to tell us when you’re coming in early,” he huffs, hastily pushing back the visor on his helmet. “I can’t read your mind, okay? You’ve gotta work with me here.”
Loki straightens up, an unamused glaze passing over his visage.
“Sorry,” you tell your guard, eyes never leaving Laing’s. “I sure wish I didn’t have to be escorted everywhere, thanks to some emotionally constipated god.”
He quirks an eyebrow. “Maybe it’s for the best.”
“Maybe he should go to therapy,” you reply smoothly. “Let someone help him for once, tell someone the truth.”
“Maybe you should stay away from him,” Laing growls—your guard, Marcus, steps a little closer as Laing advances towards you, voice dropping. “Maybe he’s unstable, and maybe he has a target on his back that could level your planet, and maybe he’s nothing more than a monster that needs to be disposed of before anything worse happens.”
You blink.
That came out of nowhere.
Laing sighs, slipping back into his office. “Stay with your, ah, guards. Don’t ask anymore questions.”
“You can’t tell me—mmf!”
Laing just smiles, and you catch a glimpse of Loki in his sad eyes as you involuntarily spin on your heel and hurry away, leaving Marcus scrambling to catch up.
This isn’t the first time that he’s had to watch you walk away; it’s a sight all too familiar to him.
Even from the distance now between the two of you, he catches a glimpse of the taser hanging from your belt, the gun strapped to your guards back, the one in his hands, and when you reach the elevator, unable to stop walking, two more guards join the group.
Good, he reminds himself, good, good.
You glare back at him in the doorway, mouth stopped and feet moving by Loki’s hand, and a wave of relief crashes over him.
You look annoyed.
Disgusted with him.
Angry.
― ― ― ―
“Tell me a bit about your father.”
“Which one?”
Loki rolls over on the crisp, white bed, a grin on his gaunt face.
“Whichever you feel more connected to,” the therapist replies.
A pen clicks and clicks again, and Loki sighs.
“He’s a horrid man. He hates me, I hate him. It’s simple enough, doctor, he never loved me.”
Thor points at the screen. “I believed that.”
I might, too, you decide.
“Do you blame your father for some things that have gone wrong in your life?”
“Yes.”
It’s a quick, short answer that needed no thought.
“Can you elaborate?”
Loki crosses his ankles, stretching to lay his hands behind his head with a content little hum. “Well, if he had paid more attention to me, I wouldn’t have attacked this poor town, that’s for certain.”
The therapist seems stunned by the sudden confession.
“Wasn’t it obvious?” Loki continues, eyes fluttering closed. “I did this for him. I want him to see that I am the worthy son, I can conquer worlds and be a greater king than he, and he will hold nothing in his heart but respect for who I am.”
“I believed that one, too,” Thor says again. “That one made sense, but only if I assumed the worst.”
“Do you think anything from these sessions is true? Anything that his clone said?” Mind spinning, you stop the video player and remove the hard drive, unsure if watching Loki’s therapy tapes had helped in any way or not.
Currently, the scales are tipping towards not.
“It is unlikely,” Thor sighs. “My brother is a skilled liar, he twists your words and manipulates the truth to bend to his will…most of the time, you never know if you are even truly speaking to him, or just another illusion. Just as this now shows us”
“Do you believe any of that?”
“I want to,” he answers truthfully. “It is simple. It makes it easier to take him back to the Allfather for punishment, if we could only find the serpent.”
“I don’t,” you mumble under your breath, then stop, unsure if you should really let those words actually leave your mouth.
Thor gives you a sideways glance and you curse yourself for saying anything.
“Do you find him attractive?”
You drop the hard drive to the floor with a loud clatter.
“What?! No! No,” you laugh, quickly stooping to pick it back up. “Of course not, why would you say that?”
“You seem to have faith in him,” Thor carefully replies, still eyeing you suspiciously. “Or at least an acute interest. Why do you want to help him?”
“I’m…” you pause, needing to think for a moment.
To an extent, you suppose he’s right - you want to have faith in him. You made a judgement call when you first met him and tried to kill him, only to accidentally find yourself tangled further in his webbed plan than you’d care to be.
Some days, Loki makes you think you made the wrong judgement, that maybe it wasn’t him, that maybe he’s suffering in a different way than most assume, that maybe he’s more than he lets on.
That maybe he’s been forced into playing the villain in his brother’s story.
“Curious,” you finally answer. “I’m curious. He’s weird, a-and gods are still kinda new to our world, so…I’m curious if he’s really who he lets on to be.”
Thor nods, brow furrowed and deep in thought.
“Though it’s pretty tough to find anything out about him when he’s missing,” you quickly add, remembering that you really shouldn’t have as much access to the god as you do.
“I understand.” Thor gives you a small smile, a mild comfort. “Be wary of him, won’t you? I fear he uses people to his advantage, mistakes their kindness for strategy.”
A flood of memories to support that cloud your mind, and the rest of your walk back to your office finishes in silence.
You are curious. There’s something off about this Loki character. Just from the small bits of him you’ve seen, the way he pushes you away, the clear evidence he keeps hiding, something about him screams out to anyone who will listen.
Screaming for help, you’re nearly certain.
“He is dangerous,” Thor says once you’ve reached your office again. “He is powerful. And I fear we’ve hurt him past the point of repair.”
“I doubt it,” you smile, giving the god a reassuring squeeze on the arm. “He’ll come back. He’s your family, right?”
Thor just smiles, wishes you a good day, and walks away.

In The Darkness Chapter 77 - The Visit
Noragami x Harry Potter AU
Words: 4,582
Summary: The trio visit Godric’s Hollow.
Also available on Yatorihell A03
Winter rolled in and the days blurred into each other.
Yukine’s birthday passed without much celebration – not that they had been keeping tracked of the dates in the first place. During a trip for supplies, they bought a little cake – a decadent rarity in the new travelling life they had – and presented it to Yukine at dinner.
The frustrations had eased lightly, the horcrux now being carried in their pockets rather than around their necks to keep contact to a minimum, but Yato still felt that nag that he wasn’t doing enough. If it wasn’t a glimmer of rubies, a serpent’s eyes, or his own name being whispered like wind in the eaves in his visions, it was Sakura who greeted him. A pallor like death and her face contorted, reaching around his neck before disappearing beyond the veil.
“Can you not see anything?” Yukine prodded.
Yato suppressed a groan. This became the new routine: sleep, see nothing, wake up, get questioned. He could understand the need to pick apart every part of the dreams he had, but there was nothing there.
“No, I can’t see anything,” Yato replied as calmly as he could.
Yukine huffed and fell silent.
The Sorcerer seemed to be stronger at preventing Yato see his memories. If they could work out how to destroy the locket, maybe it would weaken his defences enough to find the other horcruxes.
Yato told himself this daily, a strained belief that the first step was destroying the locket. It would be the second out of Merlin knew how many, but still, how many horcruxes could one person make? How many times could they tear their soul apart and still feel human? He could only hope there was a limit.
“I think I found a lead on how to destroy horcruxes,” Hiyori said later that evening.
Yato looked at her, eyes tired in the dying lamplight. On her lap was that infernal Dark Arts book she read through every evening, seemingly doing more to find horcruxes than he was. In her hands she held the book Professor Tenjin left her, Tales of Beedle the Bard.
Hiyori patted the spot beside her on her bed, and Yato ambled over. Yukine looked on from his spot on the floor where he’d bundled himself in a blanket.
“Look at this,” Hiyori pointed at one of the dozens of marks that had been etched over the book’s pages. A circle within a triangle, crossed through with a vertical line. He blinked at it for a minute, then looked at Hiyori.
“You know I failed Ancient Runes,” Yato said. “’Affinity for failure’, Takemikazuchi said.”
Hiyori shook her head. “It’s not a rune.”
Hiyori put down the book and refocused on the Dark Arts book. She flipped to a page and showed him and Yukine, who had finally risen to see what she was talking about. The same symbol was printed in the top right corner, besides a name in dark lettering. Their mouths fell open.
“Not the Grindelwald? Certified madman purist?” Yukine asked, craning his head to try to read the scribbled writing.
“One of the most dangerous Dark Wizards, Grindelwald believed that wizards were oppressed by Muggles and wanted to return ‘the natural order’,” Hiyori recited.
“Like the Sorcerer,” Yato said.
Hiyori nodded and continued. “He attended Durmstrang, which is famous for its relaxed approach to the Dark Arts, and got expelled for attacking students and… unethical experiments. He became obsessed with the Deathly Hallows, which is what this symbol is.”
Hiyori picked up the Beedle the Bard storybook again and flicked to the front page where they could see the same symbol.
“The Philosophers Stone, the Cloak of Invisibility, and the Elder Wand,” Hiyori pointed at each as she went. “He wanted to retrieve all three and become the Master of Death. He got as far as the Elder Wand before he was captured.”
“Then what?” Yukine asked.
“He disappeared.”
Yukine let out a breath that was nearly a snort. “That’s the Ministry for you, can’t keep hold of the Darkest Wizards.”
“How do the Deathly Hallows help us?” Yato interrupted.
He knew the Philosophers Stone was said to be used to create the Elixir of Life, giving the drinker immortality. Kugaha had revealed his own version which could contain life force derived from a soul vessel, which was the diary Yato had destroyed in the Chamber of Secrets. He doubted he nor the Sorcerer was in possession of it if he had to resort to horcruxes.
The invisibility cloak, well, there were lots of them, even he had one. But the Elder Wand was something obscured in myth, legend, and fairy-tale, like the book in Hiyori’s lap. No one knew who owned the Elder Wand due to the curse of jealousy that came with it; its owners murdered in their beds by others craving its power.
A storybook seemed an unlikely answer to destroying horcruxes, but Hiyori was thinking of the bigger picture.
“It’s not the Hallows we need, it’s the name,” Hiyori put down the book and folded her hand on her lap like she was about to reveal the biggest revelation in the world. “Grindelwald had family in Godric’s Hollow.”
Yato flinched inwardly at the village name, but it went unnoticed. Hiyori looked at them expectantly, but the penny still hung in the air.
“How does that help us?” Yukine prompted.
“Grindelwald’s symbol was in this book. Grindelwald was from Godric’s Hollow,” Hiyori paused for a moment, still seeing their blank faces.
“What if Professor Tenjin knew that he couldn’t give you the sword? What if he hid it somewhere we could find it, using the gifts he gave us?”
“The Sword of Gryffindor is locked up in Hogwarts,” Yato pointed out.
“But is it the real sword?”
Yato and Yukine paused. It was a longshot, but would Professor Tenjin have the foresight to know that the sword would be kept from them?
“Where would we find it?” Yukine asked.
Hiyori’s face fell just a fraction. “I don’t know…”
“It’s a start at least,” Yato encouraged. “You found a clue!”
Hiyori smiled gently. “Thank you.”
Yukine picked his blanket up from the floor and crossed back to his own bed. “Let’s just hope we don’t get snatched before we find it.”
~
The next time they had stopped for supplies was in the midst of a snowstorm.
They left their camp wrapped in hats and scarves to hide their faces and apparated. When they emerged in a sleepy village that was covered in snow, Yato recognised it instantly. The houses they passed were decked in wreaths, the front room lights glowing warm and making them silently wish that they had the luxury of a home to go back to.
Godric’s Hollow was mainly a wizarding population, and visiting wasn’t a risk they would take if there wasn’t something important hidden within.
The main thoroughfare of the village was quiet aside from the drunken cheers from the pub further down the road, but Yukine pulled his scarf around his mouth and entered the shop alone. Whilst they would apparate together, going in shops alone was one way of making sure Snatchers and snitches wouldn’t recognise three of the wizarding worlds most wanted huddled around cans of soup.
Yato looked wistfully up the road, heart hammering and mouth dry. He hadn’t been here since that day, and the knowledge of that made him feel sick.
“Do you want to visit her?”
Yato snapped his head back. Hiyori had pulled her pink scarf from around her mouth by a finger, looking at him with soft eyes. He looked back, through the snow where he could just make out the church tower standing out against the sky. Maybe the horcrux was playing with his heart, feeling its erratic beat on the underside of the locket, but pulsating need to go was enough to move him.
He nodded.
They walked silently from the shop, not bothering to let Yukine know where they were going. But either way, anyone who knew Yato would know the first place he would go, for this village just so happened to be where Sakura was laid to rest.
The church dominated the sky as they entered through the small metal gate that had become stuck open in a snowdrift. The stain-glassed windows glowed dimly, and a faint noise could be heard from inside, but they turned left and followed the hidden pathway that skirted the edges.
The small churchyard was where they had erected a headstone and said their own private mass for those who knew Sakura. Yato remembered Professor Tenjin, Kofuku, Daikoku, and nameless faces gathered around the plot of earth that held no coffin, laying late-blooming cherry blossoms atop the grass and saying their final goodbyes.
Now Yato could see that those branches were long gone, cleared away by the groundskeeper probably not too long after the funeral. A thick layer of snow capped the black stone, the golden words not quite faded yet like the memory of her voice. The flowerpot was blackened with dirt and the rainwater inside surely frozen, not that there were flowers to begin with.
They looked at the gravestone in silence, allowing the snowflakes to settle on the sleeves of their coats and star their woolly hats in multitude of fading constellations. The ringing of bells sounded behind them, and slowly, a gentle hum of singing reached them across the barrenness of forgotten souls.
“I think it’s Christmas eve,” Hiyori said gently.
Yato said nothing, just stared at the marble that listed Sakura’s name, birth and death. Underneath were the words that named her sister, friend; that was all the monument that her life held.
Hiyori quietly stepped forward and knelt on the frosty ground before the headstone. Wordlessly she waved her wand in a circular motion, a cherry blossom wreath appearing against the grave.
Yato smiled sadly at the small yet great gesture as she stood up and stepped back beside him. His hand caught hers in a silent thank you, which she squeezed in return and leaned her head against his shoulder. Maybe this was the closure he needed to clear his visions.
“Happy Christmas, Hiyori,” Yato murmured.
“Happy Christmas, Yato.”
They stayed like that for a moment longer, lingering in the comfort and warmth they gave each other. Yato’s eyes flickered up to the dark churchyard railings that divided the living from the dead. In the dying snow flurry, he could see a figure stood in the road directly facing them.
At first he thought it was Yukine, allowing them a moment's privacy to remember Sakura, but the figure was too short and had an unnerving aura to it. Yato tightened his grip on his wand but looked away, pretending he hadn’t seen the stocky figure.
“Someone’s watching us,” Yato murmured quietly, looking to the left beyond Hiyori at the rows of wonky headstones.
She looked at him, eyes wide under snowcapped lashes before she subtly looked to the railings. She frowned, her breath fogging in front of her. “Isn’t that Iwami?”
Yato allowed his eyes to slide over again, but the figure was already retreating. From a distance he couldn’t be sure, but the white tufts of hair and the small, hunched build under the coat could’ve been him. He was one of the oldest members of the Order of the Phoenix, serving alongside Tenjin in the First Wizarding War, yet he hadn’t been seen since Kofuku told them about members going missing before Tenjin’s death.
The figure stopped and looked back but continued down centre of the abandoned road.
“I think he wants us to follow,” Yato murmured. Could Hiyori be right? Was the Sword of Gryffindor hidden here all along, in Tenjin’s birthplace and already in the Orders possession? Had Iwami stolen away with it, keeping it safe under Tenjin’s orders?
Hiyori looked back up the road towards the shop. “We should wait for Yukine -.”
“It’s ok, Iwami is in the Order,” Yato cut in. He took Hiyori’s hand and started up the path towards the exit, heart beating harder.
Iwami was nearly a smudge in the snowfall, but their paces quickly caught up to him outside a derelict house on the outskirts of the village. The windows had been shattered and the door hung from its hinges, letting a small snowdrift pile up in the hallway. Bits of debris that seemed to have been thrown from the windows were strewn across the front garden and covered in a thick layer of snow.
Iwami shuffled inside, not looking back as Yato and Hiyori hung around the gate. He disappeared into the shadows of the house, not bothering to turn on any lights. They stood outside for a moment, wondering why he hadn’t greeted them nor invited them in.
“Should we go in?” Hiyori whispered.
A groaning came from inside, and Yato nodded. “He said come in.”
Yato led the way inside the house, stepping over the frozen post that had piled up on the floor and been obscured by snow of the same colour. He could tell that this wasn’t Iwami’s residency due to the smell of something foul and the moulting interior. The furniture was broken and the lightbulbs had been smashed in their holdings, leaving them in pure darkness.
Yato’s eyes adjusted and he saw Iwami’s stout, hunched figure at the bottom of the stairs. He didn’t look quite right; all shadows and lines in his face and a gait that told them he was at the end of his days. He spoke again, and Yato’s ears attuned to his speech.
“Is it here?” Yato asked quietly, matching his tone. “The Sword of Gryffindor? Professor Tenjin -.”
Iwami spoke again, a rasp that barely reached Hiyori’s ears. He turned and started up the stairs, footsteps thumping slowly and methodically with every step.
Yato looked back at Hiyori for a second and followed him.
The stairs were narrow and steep, and Yato feared Iwami may fall back at any moment, but they made it to the top of the stairs. None of the rooms Yato could see had doors, leading to gaping abysses of foreboding darkness that were barely illuminated by the streetlamp outside. He followed Iwami inside the front bedroom, wand pressed to his side.
There was a moment of silence. Yato waited patiently, but still he could feel the steady thrum of his heart against the locket, an unpleasant and agitating feeling.
“You are Yato.”
It was a statement, not a question, but Yato nodded regardless. “Do you have something for me?”
Iwami close his eyes and Yato felt an uncomfortable prickle run over his body. The horcrux jerked against his skin and the world swam in a hazy shadowed blur. Before him, Iwami’s mouth opened and his eyelids fluttered, his eyes rolling back in his head as a long tendril pushed out from his mouth. The sound of scales slithering within skin filled the room, and in the distance, he heard Hiyori scream.
The body collapsed to the floor and a serpent spilled from its mouth, slick with salvia glistening against the black scales. The same snake he saw in his visions; the same one that he saw in his bedroom at Hogwarts.
In the time it took for Yato to raise his wand the snake struck his arm, puncturing the skin through his coat.
Yato gasped, somehow keeping a grip on his wand, as its tail slammed into his stomach, a coil of muscle that sent him staggering back towards the door. He heard footsteps on the stairs, unable to call out to Hiyori and tell her to get out. The tail lashed against his ankle and Yato fell with a pained grunt. He felt the coils of scales encircle him, muscular and heavy as the serpent’s head slithered up his chest. The horcrux thrummed harder against his chest as if beating in time with the flickering forked tongue.
“Yaboku…”
Yato felt his vision darkening, arms held tight against his chest, wand useless.
The snake's head darted up suddenly, fangs bared in a hiss as a spell rippled over its body. Its body convulsed and loosened, and Yato gasped, kicking his legs free and coughing. He saw the snake's body in the darkness strike at Hiyori, heard her shriek as she dodged it and flung another spell at it.
Red light briefly lit up the hallway as the snake was flung backward and narrowly missed Yato as he stood. If there was a door he would’ve slammed it shut, but instead, he watched the snake flip over the suit of skin and come at them again with renewed vigour.
Yato raised his wand, arm aching with what he hoped wasn’t poison, and bellowed, “Confringo!”
Yato threw himself over Hiyori, shielding her against the wall. The bedroom exploded. The shattered glass on the floor bounced around the room, the furniture reverberated and splintered, and in the din, they heard the snake scream.
Yato’s head split open with white noise, an unbearable searing pain against his heart forcing the world to go white as snow and then black as night.
~
Feet walking barefoot through rivers of blood on white marble. The steady drip of crimson running from a hand, splattering on the floor like blooming roses.
A long, elegant black wand. The word ‘Nagini’ whispered like a prayer in the language of snakes.
The feeling of ripping a soul apart and simultaneously taking one for a perverted act of Dark magic.
A woman with long dark hair crying, a ring on her finger that looked so familiar yet unfamiliar as it still contained her lover’s soul.
The locket. Grindelwald's mark. A two-handled goblet he’d seen in multiple portraits at Hogwarts.
The serpent’s eyes, yellow and glowing like a Basilisk.
~
Yato came to with a start. He was in the tent, in his own bed. His coat and jumper had been peeled off and the duvet was tucked around him. From the still air, dim lamplight, and the lack of warmth in the tent, it could have been the middle of the night. A sheen of sweat trickled down his face. His sudden movement brought Hiyori to his side instantly, closely followed by Yukine. His eyes focused in the dim yellow glow as the lamp was brought to his bedside.
“What happened?” Yato croaked.
“You blacked out at the house,” Hiyori answered. She held a sponge in her hand, and Yato noticed the small cuts on her face where he failed to protect her from the glass. “Yukine heard us from the churchyard and came running. We apparated out of there before the snake woke up.”
Yato looked at Yukine, dazed. From the look on his face, Yukine was more worried than he was pissed off, but the fact that fear outweighed anger scared him.
“How long was I out?” Yato asked.
“Hours, it's nearly morning,” Hiyori dropped the sponge into the bowl of water next to the bed.
“We couldn’t get the horcrux off you,” Hiyori continued. “We had to use a Severing Charm to get it off you; it was like touching fire. And the snake bit you, so I put some salve on them.”
Yato gingerly pushed down his duvet just enough to see an angry red burn in the centre of his chest, right above his heart. His knuckles were white and cut, and the punctures in his arm weren’t as deep as they felt. No doubt the rest of his was as battered and bruised as he felt. He remembered the pulsating beat of the horcrux that he mistook for his own heartbeat, the jerking thrum it made when he was in close contact with the snake. It was as natural as it was agitating.
“Where is it?” Yato looked around, less desperately than he might’ve had if it hadn’t maimed him.
“In the bag. We’ll leave it there for a few days.”
Yato flopped back onto the bed and closed his eyes. “That was the same snake that attacked Daikoku in the Department of Mysteries.”
He opened his eyes again and stared at the canvas, feeling Hiyori’s and Yukine’s eyes intently on him. “I think it’s his pet – ‘Nagini’.”
He tasted the name on his lips. It was foreign to him, and although the thought of the most powerful Dark Wizard in the world having a pet was unthinkable, it was less so knowing that this was the kind he had.
“Iwami…” Yato asked questioningly, looking at the pair, but Hiyori shook her head.
“Dead in the cupboard.”
“It must’ve used him as a skin to lure us to the house,” Yato sighed. He dragged a hand over his face.
In his desperation to get the sword, he put Hiyori’s life at risk. He wasn’t even sure it was Iwami until he had them in the house and nearly butchered them. Even then, he hadn’t been seen in nearly a year – he was one of the members who had gone missing, presumed dead or defected. Now they knew what had happened; the Sorcerer was using their own against them.
“What was he saying to you?” Hiyori asked.
Yato pushed himself up and accepted the fresh t-shirt Yukine offered him. “What do you mean? You were there.”
“You weren’t talking English,” Hiyori countered. “It was just…”
“Hisses?” Yukine finished. They both looked at him and he offered a single shrug. “Yato speaks parseltonuge; it’s how he found me in the Chamber of Secrets. He sleeptalks it too.”
Yato rubbed his head again, feeling the beginnings of a headache coming on. He hadn’t spoken parseltongue in years, but he didn’t even realise he was speaking it when he talked to Nagini. It came so easily, like slipping into another skin and talking with an old friend. Once again, the name Yaboku was spoken in a sweetly sinister hiss that was all too familiar.
“Did you have a vision?” Yukine asked, but this time the question didn’t annoy Yato. He paused.
“I saw him.” The footsteps in blood, the wand, the voice – it was all the Sorcerer. And those flashes – Izanami wearing the ring horcrux, a two-handled goblet… “I saw his memories.”
Yato briefly described the vision, along with the new information about the goblet. Yukine frowned. “That sounds like Helga Hufflepuff’s goblet.”
It clicked into place as soon as he said it. He’d seen her portrait at Hogwarts, most recently in the Hufflepuff dormitories when he got love-potioned. A golden goblet encrusted with jewels and etched with a badger was held in her hands as she looked at him disapprovingly.
“How can that be a horcrux? Hufflepuffs cup went missing years ago, along with Ravenclaws Diadem,” Hiyori pondered.
“We know he attended Hogwarts. I wouldn’t be surprised if they went missing around the same time he left, or he was able to get in using a Vanishing Cabinet to steal them,” Yukine pointed out, folding his arms over his chest. “If that’s the case, he had possession of all the founder’s relics.”
They fell silent. Godric Gryffindor’s sword which had been withheld from them and was now lost. Helga Hufflepuff’s cup was now a horcrux. Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem had been also been lost or stolen. The Chamber of Secrets and the Basilisk was Salazar Slytherin’s ‘gift’ to Hogwarts, and was now dead. It seemed to be a personal vendetta if the Sorcerer was using Hogwarts’ own founding relics against them.
“Did you see where it was at least?” Yukine asked, but Yato shook his head in silence.
Hiyori’s thoughts cut the silence again with fresh fear. “How did we get traced again? Just like the café, something happened and they found us. Only this time they were more careful about the execution.”
Or lack of, Yato thought, but he had a point – something happened and they were followed. No one could follow their apparations unless they touched them, and if they had been sighted, Snatchers would’ve got to them before they could escape.
Yato let out a frustrated huff. “I don’t know how we were followed, but we should get going.”
“What about the sword?”
“They probably got to it before us.”
Yato kicked the duvet free, happy to see they’d left his trousers on unlike his shirt, and swung himself out of bed. He winced at the bruises on his side and nearly kicked over the water bowl on the floor before Yukine caught his elbow. Yato let out a wheezed laugh. It had been a while since he’d taken a beating; he was getting soft if a snake could get the best of him.
“Don’t suppose you know a spell to fix broken ribs?” Yato half-heartedly joked, though the thought of protruding ribs was something that could become a possibility. He looked at Hiyori and caught the secret look that passed between her and Yukine.
Yato’s smile slipped. “What’s wrong?”
“There’s another problem,” Yukine said slowly, but the words alone were enough to have a wave of assumptions wash over him in a second.
Yato looked at Hiyori, expecting her to reveal a fatal snake bite she was concealing for his own sake, or that he did indeed have broken ribs. Her eyes snagged on his and she bit her lip.
“My wand broke… when the spell bounced,” Hiyori murmured.
Yato’s heart sank. His spell blew up the room Hiyori’s wand with it – her first and only wand. His mind raced for an answer as he held her gaze, but there was none – a trip down Diagon Alley was out of the question.
Hiyori was unarmed.
~
They moved camp later that day, setting up somewhere in the south where there was little to no snowfall and remote enough that they would be found.
Yato found himself more alert despite his injuries, hyperaware that Hiyori had no way to defend herself. They listened to Kazuma’s radio show; first the list of the dead and snatched, then the true news updates about the Ministry. Kazuma revealed that the Sword of Gryffindor had been relocated from Hogwarts after a failed robbery, but it only disheartened them more to know it was well and truly out of reach. They pushed their stew around their bowls, lost in thought.
When night fell, Yato realised the world had shifted.
After that night in Godric’s Hollow, a silent agreement was made to share each other's company as the winter nights grew longer and colder, and the nightmares of serpents, rotting corpses and death slithered into their dreams.
Yukine pretended not to notice the first time when Hiyori sniffled and quietly slipped out of bed in the dead of night, thinking that he was still asleep. She tiptoed across the creaking wooden slats to Yato’s bed for solstice, finding the single duvet flipped already open for her to crawl in beside him. Her shivering only stopped when she curled up against him and his arm draped over her side, thumb rubbing small, gentle circles on her back as he coaxed her back to sleep.
Twinned with the warmth radiating from under his t-shirt and the steady beat of his heart, dreamless sleep eventually claimed Hiyori. Her fingers loosely clung to his bed shirt as she nuzzled into the deep smell of the boy that held her even closer than he would if she were awake.
When sleep finally claimed Yato, for the first time in weeks there was no vision.

Chapter 5 Y/N P.O.V
Once Aizawa left the room Kaminari and Mina were yelling within seconds “It’s true we haven’t had much free time” Tokoyami but in. I’ve had heaps of free time, you just cut out sleep and boom like 9 hours of studying ready for you. I had come first in the midterms so I couldn’t fall behind now.
“As someone who ranked in the top ten I'm not that concerned” Mineta smiled spinning in his chair. It was quite often my brain ignored that he was athletic and semi-decently smart. Though his personality ranked quite low in the class so overall he wasn’t doing exceptionally well.
“What you’re tenth in the midterms” both Kaminari and Mina yelled out in unison. They were the bottom two, I couldn’t imagine the stress of that. I can’t deal with being first not to mention being last. I think I was going to faint, just thinking about it sent shivers down my spine.
“Ashido, Kaminari. We still have time to study and we’ll all get to go to the training camp together” he had ranked fifth I had completely forgotten about the camp far too focused on not failing I must have excused that from my memory. I was glad Midoriya brought it up, now I was forced to converse with my parents at a later date. “Right” he questioned with a smile, hands clenched and happy.
“Yes, as class rep, I have hopes we will make UA proud” Iida was in third place in the class. How was he holding it together, I wanted to ask him for his secrets. To give me guidance. I needed the help, I needed to train. I had so little time.
“It’s pretty hard to fail if you just pay attention in class, isn’t it” Todoroki’s voice was so bland and he spoke, his words were true. Like there was no way I could fail, right, right? I could feel my heart beating so quickly. Todoroki had ranked sixth in the class, how was he being so calm. I was stressing beyond belief.
“Why you gotta cut me down like that” Kaminari was holding his chest, kneeling on the floor. I nodded, I felt the same. Everyone in the top ten seemed to calm and here I was in first place having a small crisis. I thought I had gotten over my nerves but not at least not for my education.
“Hey don’t worry you two, I can catch you up to speed on certain topics if you want” Yaoyorozu was so nice, maybe I would ask if I too could join. She ranked second, I needed to ask her as well as how she wasn’t stressing. Was it the fact she wasn’t number one? Was it something else? Did she not care? Anyone give me an answer. I had study sessions but they slowly died down with the class. I was collapsing and I needed support. Mina and Kaminari took her up on the offer. “I’m afraid I won’t be any help when it comes to the practical though” she sulked, an aura radiating off her from the corner of the room as she sat down in her chair.
“I’ve been studying but can you help me out too, I’m having some trouble understanding quadratic functions,” Jirou asked holding up her book. I too had struggled with them, a whole night of rewriting them, listening to a youtube video about them and then reading about them had solved that issue. Jirou ranked eighth in the class.
“Tutor me please, classical Japanese is killing me” Sero had his hands above his hand in a ‘praying’ formation, he ranked eighteenth. Classical Japanese was a lot of work but again some videos and all-nighter. I think I had got it to a T, though what if I had missed something… My lord what if I had missed something.
Ojiro walked over his shoulders slouched and hand in the air like he was volunteering “Is their room for one more, I’m falling behind a little” at least he was honest. Ojiro ranked ninth so he was still in the top ten but I could see his stress. I was listening in from my desk as my hands shook.
They all asked in unison for help and Yoayarozu looked stunned for a moment, her hands coming to her lips as her eyes sparkled “This is wonderful” she shouted, her seat moving back as she jumped up, hands in the air happily. How could she be happy at a time like this? “Yes let’s do it, ok we can hold a study session at my residence over the weekend” she smiled hands clasped together.
“Seriously, I can’t wait to see your fancy digs” Mina smiled as she bounced over. Yaoyarozu looked so happy, a blush forming along her cheeks, hands fisted near her face. Her smile was beautiful, she was beautiful. How could she be smart and pretty?
“I must call mother and ask to set up the great hall, it’ll be the perfect spot” Did she just say great hall, she was joking right. She didn’t have that kinda space just laying around. “What kind of tea does everyone like, I'll make sure we are stocked” everyone looked about as shocked as I was, sure I knew she was rich but this was just wow. She continued to go on about what her family drank and that if it wasn’t to your liking she would buy some. Such a good host and we were still at school.
“Sounds like I should be studying with her” Kirishima smiled at the group forming at the back of the room, he was ranked sixteenth. I couldn’t blame him, she seemed so confident and wise. How was she so happy, how was she able to make time for other people when she too had to study. Sure I could do it a few weeks ago but right now? A week before the exam, how was she doing it?
“Think I don’t know enough, maybe I should beat the lessons into your skull” Bakugou growled out, he ranked fourth. He was another I forgot was smart. He was always so loud and angry but he did care dearly for his education and becoming the best so it made sense why he was like that. Bakugou looked so angry teeth grit and eyes wide, was he mad that Kirishima even suggested going with someone else.
“I'm counting on it,” Kirishima smiled and nodded happily to the seething Bakugou. I don’t often see Kirishima without a smile, he was always so happy. Give me tips, please. I was on the verge of passing out, whether it be from stress, sleep deprivation or the four cups of coffee wearing off I wasn’t sure. “God I wish I was Y/N. Not a care in the world” Kirishima sighed and I watched as everyone turned their attention to me shaking at my desk.
“Yeah I know right” Sero agreed his head down, I heard a few more agree. Lord if only they knew how fast my heart was beating at the thought. “I don’t know how you can even get 100%” there was so much pressure, my head was spinning as I felt faint.
My hand rose, shaking as I shook my head “I am very stressed” I stuttered and everyone stopped turning to my shaking figure as I went to stand and my legs wobbled. “I think I’m about to have a heart attack,” I said calmly and sighed out unevenly.
“What, why, you’re so smart. Our study sessions were like you were a teacher. I don’t know how you find the time” Mina jumped to my desk as I stood up straight, my hands coming to rub my cheeks the end of my sleeves dragging along my skin.
“Yeah, you are incredibly smart” Kaminari agreed. “I could never come first” he sighed and everyone slowly walked over. I was rubbing my face still, slowly and shakily. They all thought I was so smart, I had so much pressure. “How do you have time?” he asked.
“I don’t sleep” I looked up, my eyes baggy and black. I might as well have been a walking corpse. “I studied over 300 hours for the last test. I can’t even imagine the time I’ve put into this one” I shivered and saw wide eyes and feared looks. “Am I allowed to the study sessions as well?” I asked slowly.
“I think you need some sleep” Yaoyarozu spoke and came to rub my back calmly. I could fall asleep to this, I could fall asleep standing I was so tired. “But if you want to come you are more than welcome” she smiled nodding. “I’ll make you some nice calming tea”
I grabbed her hands bowing my head “Thank you” I whispered and looked up seeing her happy face smiling, she was pretty “If I could marry you, I would” I whispered and she flushed as I heard some laughter. “I’m not joking, the idea of studying with calming tea is marriage material and no one can tell me otherwise” I bowed again. She blushed more and bowed back.
Then came lunch, we all walked to the lunchroom and sat down. We all sat at one big table and when I sat down I brought out my notes books and pens. This was half an hour I got to study, the lords are truly smiling upon me. As I began to write I could feel eyes on me.
“Are you not eating?” Mina asked slowly pointing down to my book “You can take a half an hour break to eat Y/N” I looked down to my book, I was hungry. When had I eaten last? I wasn’t sure yesterday, maybe. The day before. I was far too stressed and busy to eat.
“Well it’s an extra half an hour” I answered and saw the looks I was getting. “I have to do my best you know” I clicked the lid of my pen to the bottom of it and began to write again.
“When was the last time you ate,” Bakugou asked and I turned, we were sitting next to each other. He had asked me last time as well. He took a lot of care for his body, his athleticism was proof of that. Why was everyone so worried for me?
“Um,” I paused and tried to think about it “I had some rice, Saturday” I questioned and shook my head “I’m fine though, really” I smiled but even that was using energy my body didn’t have.
“Are you kidding?” Kirishima asked and I looked down shaking my head “I could never” he whispered and looked over my body. I too looked down, was I getting smaller? I pulled on my UA jumper and then flattened it to my body. There was a lot of excess fabric but I liked my jumpers bigger.
I saw a bowl placed in front of me as books were moved out of the way “Eat” Bakugou demanded and I looked down to the bowl of rice with soup and noodles, odd but it looked good. I shook my head and smiled about talking when I was handed some chopsticks. “I said to eat” he growled.
My stomach growled loudly, I hadn’t noticed just how hungry I was “Thank you” I whispered and placed my hands together in a thank you for the food. Picking up the bowel I began to eat and saw him eating something else he had brought. A few mouthfuls and I placed it down. “Thank you again” I went to grab my book but my hand was stopped.
“Eat it all” he ordered and moved the bowl back “You look dead” he added and took another bite of his food. I touched my face, did I look that bad. The noodles had a nice spice to it and were about to shake my head once more when I was glared at. Giving up I continued to eat until a loud banging was heard.
“Oh sorry, your head is so big that it’s hard to miss” it was the preppy boy from 1-B, the one who was a real jerk ward. I lowered Bakugous’ bowl and watched how this would play out. He was rude and had a grudge against 1-A. Maybe he hadn’t gotten in or maybe he just didn’t like us.
“You’re the kid from class 1-B. Um. Monomo right?” Midoriya asked rubbing the back of his head with wide eyes. Had he hit him, from the sound I thought it was the table, it was quite loud? Why was he talking to our class again? “That hurt” Midoriya yelled as he continued to rub the tender area at the back of his head.
“You guys stumbled across the Hero Killer” Now I was more interested in the conversation, the whole table was. “Just like in the sports festival, class 1-A isn’t happy unless they are the centre of attention but you know you aren’t in the spotlight because people think you’re good heroes, right?” even his voice was annoying. Did he only come here to make fun of us, was that it? “It’s just that you keep getting into so much trouble. Here’s food for thought someday the rest of us might get caught up in your mess and then we will all become victims as well” his smile was wide and menacing. He did have it out for us. “What kind of horrible villain will you bring down upon us?” he continued.
“Are you done?” I asked my eyes slowly looking over to him, too slowly to not be creepy. He seemed to sense it too. “I’m not in the mood to deal with your insecurities right now” I continued and he looked offended. Wait, did I say that out loud?
“Excuse me” his eyes widened and he huffed turning his eyes towards my own, trying to explode my head, or maybe he was constipated. I rose and eyebrow in confusion as some of my fellow class chuckled. “Say that aga-” he was cut off.
I watched as the redhead walked up, slapping him upside the head within a second he was on the floor holding the spot, now he knows how Midoriya felt. “That’s not funny Monoma, you heard what happened to Iida, chill out”
“Kendo” Iida called out his hand up about to respond again. She seemed to be everywhere the little rascal blonde went. I was about two seconds away from sticking him in an endless cube for twenty minutes.
“I apologise for him. I’m pretty sure there’s a hole where his heart should be'' she began, he should apologise for himself. Though when I looked down I should see him dangling in her grasp, did she knock him out? “So I was listening about what’s going to be on the big final practical. I heard it’s going to be combat against robots like the entrance exam” everyone straightened up now far more intrigued with the new information “One of my friends who is a few grades up filled me in. You know, cheating but oh well” I could beat them, right. I got in on recommendation so I didn’t know but I fought them in the festival and they seemed pretty easy.
Midoriya began to mumble to himself as I picked the food back up and looked down to my notes, the book was closed seconds later. Bakugous’ hand retreating as he pointed to the food in my bowl. I continued to eat, he did care about people in strange ways but still cared nonetheless.
“What kind of idiot are you Kendo” so the preppy boy was awake again. My eyes rolled by themselves this time. “You just gave away our whole strategic advantage” he whispered angrily his head rising, eyes wide as his smile. Was he ok? “This was our chance to finally pull ahead of that class full of idiots” another slap to the back of the head and he was out, being pulled out by Kendo who was calling him an idiot. A true saviour to class 1-A. Before lunch ended I made sure to give Bakugou his bowl and chopsticks back, thanking him again and asking if I could come to his study session. He agreed, a shrug but still agreed.
After lunch, everyone was talking about how the practical would be easy. It was only the exam they were now worried about. I was still stressing about every second but that was my problem. “It shouldn’t matter whether it’s robots or actual people, why are you morons so excited” the question was directed to Kaminari and Mina, they were offended by what he said but their words died down when he began to shout “Shut up” he got angry so quickly, I don’t know how he did it. “You need to learn how to control your quirk, you got it” I had to admit he had a point, they did need better control and out of everyone in the class, I think he was in the top for harnessing his quirk. “Hey Deku” his voice growled, this was the most I had heard him talk in a while. “I wanna know what’s going on with your power. I saw the way you’re using it now and I want you to know it’s seriously pissing me off” his eyes were narrowed and hands in his pockets. The training exercise, just like how he moved, had he been bottling this up for a few weeks? “I won’t have another half-ass fight, like the festival, we will be getting individual scores in the upcoming finals. New rankings” his teeth grit and his hand rose quickly pointing to the scared looking male “So we will all know exactly where we are standing. I’ll show you how much better I am and Todoroki, I’ll kill you too” with that he walked from the room, the door slamming shut.
My hands came to my cheeks once more “Am I not seen as a threat” I whispered and saw a few faces at my stress. “Oh my, does he not see me as a threat” I whispered “I was the one who beat him” I added and sighed “Although not through physical strength” Bakugou didn’t see me as a threat. I fell into my seat, my head on the desk. “Oh no,” I sighed my forehead against the wood.
“It’s been a while since I’ve seen him that worked up,” Kirishima told the class then walked over and I felt a hand on my back “I’m sure he sees you as a threat, the other two are just” he paused and I rose my head slowly “people he doesn’t like” my head came crashing back to the table.
-
When the weekend rolled around, a group of us met at Yaoyarozus’ place, it was massive. Sure, I knew my house was big but this was something else entirely. We stood in awe, I had managed to get some sleep the night prior, regretted it in the morning but I had a bit more energy for the day ahead which I didn’t regret.
“I knew her family had cash but I didn’t know she was this rich” Kaminari voiced all our thoughts, we all nodded in unison. It looked like her house went on for acres, and I didn’t doubt it did.
Moving forward to press the bell a voice came through and the gates were open. All six of us walked to her house, large and beautiful. I didn’t understand the need for space but I could appreciate it. We were moved into the ‘great hall’ and we all sat down. Jirou, Kaminari and Sero on one side and Mina, Ojiro and I on the other books ready and awaiting our host.
It was strange seeing the others in normal clothing and I looked down seeing the baggy jumper, black ripped jeans and boots I wore on my days off. Though the boots I had to imagine, taking off our shoes before entering the house. I wouldn’t want dirt in here either.
“I could not feel any more out of place right now” Ojiro voiced and I nodded and Sero agreed verbally. It was a beautiful house and well taken care of. I couldn’t believe this is what Yaoyarozu came home to every day.
She walked in pushing a tray of tea, she was wearing a red shirt and white shorts. Even though they were ‘normal’ clothes she still looked proper in every way. She was so nice to let us over to study, honestly a gift to my week. Hours of studying went by and I got ahold of everything, I needed to do more. I was given calming tea as I shook and stressed.
“Marry me” I turned my eyes wide and hopeful. Yaoyarozu was a goddess in the body of a human. She had laughed and continued with the lesson. Over the weekend I met with that group of a day and Bakugou and Kirishima at night. A little over twelve hours of study with other people a day and then my study at home.
“How are your notes so neat?” Kirishima asked leaning over to look at my notes in the booth, having met in a cafe. I looked down, my notes were mostly colour coded for different things, having many pens and highlighters.
“I have a fear of failure” I stated and he nodded. I helped the two organise by colour coded and it seemed to help Kirishima get the hang of a few things “Look, cover, write, check” I wrote down on a posted note for him, sticking the paper to his book neatly. “The motto I live by, or just keep doing it until it’s engraved in your brain for eternity” I smiled and Bakugou nodded in agreement.
“So manly” he nodded and started my technique, this went on for a few hours until we parted ways and I let him borrow one of the study books I was done with having memorized it. He looked about ready to cry “I owe you my life” he bowed and I laughed.
Going home, eating something and then back up to my room to continue studying. Every day this week I had worked on my quirk. Expanding my area, how long I could do it for, how many things I could create, size, density. Everything had to be perfect. I worked night and day to be the best. I was going to stay in the top spot. I could do this. I hoped, begged.
The weekend went quickly but the night before the exam I slept more hours then I did the whole week, waking up I felt ‘refreshed’ and ready. I practically sprinted to school my head high and my mind ready. I had an illusion of the answers beside me, to make sure I didn’t forget anything. Answers I had studied and worked my ass off. The first exam was long and I powered through the answers, seeming to know every single one. I didn’t stop writing for the entire time, I was proud of myself.
The third day was finally over, I felt my heartbeat again “Alright pencils down, the last person of each row bring the answers to me” My page was collected and I felt a weight off my shoulders. I was breathing again, was oxygen always this good?
Yaoyarozu was then bombarded with Kaminari and Mina thanking her, I said it but I wouldn’t bet she could hear me over them. They had answered every question which was good to hear. They gave it a go. Later that day Kirishima had asked why I thanked Yaoyorozu and then the class was surprised to know I went to both sessions with the groups and then studied more at home.
The practical was still to come, I looked down at my hands. Was I ready? I had trained so hard every day, was I ready for this? I shook my head then nodded, yes, I was. I had gone up against villains, murders, Nomus and won. I can beat a few robots… There were no robots.
We were all in our hero costumes standing in front of the teachers. I was shitting bricks, to say the least. “Now then, let’s begin the last test, remember it’s possible to fail this final. If you want to go camping, don’t make any stupid mistakes” Aizawa warned. I was petrified, were all the teachers going to watch us?
“Why are all the teachers here?” Jirou questioned, good now I didn’t have to talk, a small sigh left my lips in relief. I thought it would only be Aizawa, maybe All Might if we were lucky not all of them.
“I expect many of you have gathered information and believe you have some idea of what you’ll be faced with today” I froze, we weren’t fighting robots were we? Of course, it would change for our year, why wouldn’t it?
“We’ll be fighting those big metal robots” Kaminari shouted leaning back as if to allow as much sound from his body as possible… he most likely did do that. His hands were out and Mina joined in happily smiling.
I watched as Aizawa’s scarf ruffled then Principal Nezu popped out “This year's test has been changed for various reasons” he smiled, I felt my heart sink. I was right, I was too right. Why was I right, why couldn’t we just fight the robots? “The test now has a new focus” he lowered himself with Aizawa's’ scarf and the help of No.13 “It’ll be hero work of course but also teamwork and combat against actual people. So what does that mean for you, your students will be in pairs and your opponents will be one of our esteemed UA teachers. Isn’t that fabulous” I was going to throw up. My hands were shaking as I put my hand over my mouth to try and get myself together.
“Additionally your partners and opponents have already been chosen” I was mad at that. If I lost because of my partner I was not going to be impressed. “They were determined under my discretion based on various factors including fighting style, grades and interpersonal relationships” this wasn’t going to end well. I was so sure, I was going to win but the idea of having to not only watch myself but someone else was a lot of work. “First Yaoyorozu and Todoroki are a team” he smiled pulling his scarf up “Against me. Then we have Midoriya paired with Bakugou” they turned to each other and I could feel the tension circle our group. “And their opponent is”
A loud bang and there was All Might in all his glory suited up and ready to fight “I am here” his fist was out and my heart fluttered in fear. I was so glad I wasn’t them. It was good to know I wasn’t going to be fighting the top hero and a little insulting knowing I was the first by grades and in the festival. I tried not to take it personally… I took it personally. “To fight” first Bakugou and now the teachers. “You’re going to have to work together boys, if you want to win” his smile only grew with a chuckle.

Teachers P.O.V (third person)
The teachers began to talk about the exam, explaining why it needed to be changed and how. Some teachers were against the idea but the topic of the league of villains attacking once more quickly changed their minds, why wouldn’t it? The heroes in training need to be ready if anything ever happens. Hero Killer Stain may be gone, but for how long, how long until someone takes his place? Everyone was now on the same page about the students fighting the teachers.
“Right, now let’s talk about the teams” Aizawa held a pile of papers in his hand, looking down at the first team “First, Todoroki, he’s doing quite well generally speaking but relies too much on brute force. Yaoyorozu is an all-rounder but lacks the ability to make spur of the moment decisions and apply them. Therefore I’ll erase their quirks and take advantage of their weaknesses” with the simple explanation all the teachers had agreed happily. It was fair, one liked to take control while the other feared to make decisions by erasing their quirks they would have to work together. “Next for Midoriya and Bakugou I’m leaving them to you All Might,” said male looked confused a little taken back by the conclusion of his pair. “In this case, I didn’t pair the two based on ability or classwork, I went with relationships. I know you’ve got a soft spot for Midoriya, please ensure that they learn something” Aizawa pointed out and.
“I will do my best” All Might nod in affirmative. It would be hard for the number one Hero, he did have a soft spot for the green-headed successor but he also had a soft spot for the explosive teen who loved to cause damage. He was nervous but would do what he needed.
“The next group is Anyama and Uraraka, I picked this pair based on relationships as well. I have never seen them talk and in the hero world you will need to pair with random heroes, they need to learn to pair with whoever” Aizawa explained then looked to No. 13 “I have paired them with you, both their quirks will be easy to fend off with your own and they will need to think outside the box”
“I see” No 13 pondered then nodded “I look forward to facing them, I hope they can work well together” she concluded with the other teachers agreeing. As she was given the papers to learn more about them and how their quirks worked.
“Forwarding on, Ashido and Kaminari this pair is based purely on grades. They are the lowest in class but seem to work well together. They both need work on their quirks so this is why I'm pairing them with Nezu. They need to think outside the box and quickly as well as together” Aizawas’ eyes turned to Neku who was smiling and quite happy to take the pages of the two students' information.
“Very good thinking” Nezu nodded his eyes growing narrowed and smirking “I am quite excited to face these two in the exam” everyone knew Nezus’ past and his slight dislike for the human race.
“Moving onto Tsu and Tokoyami both strong quirks but both are long-distance fighters, preferring to stay back. Relying heavily on their quirks. So Ectoplasm” Aizawa’s eyes moved to the Pro who nodded indicating he was listening. “Your clones will provide close combat as well as distance. They need to work on thinking quickly as well and not relying on their quirks”
“Understood” his creepy voice spoke out into the room, a man of few words as many knew him. The pages were handed over easily and his eyes began to scan the information. Sure all the teachers had taught them but any extra information was useful.
“The next pair is based purely on fighting style and speed, Ojiro and Iida. They work well in teams and can talk to anyone, they rely on speed and technique. This is why I'm pairing them with Power Loader because they will have to move faster, think as one and make sure they watch what is going on around them all at once” another explanation down.
“This will be interesting” Power Loaded nodded and Aizawa knew he had a smile on his face even though this headgear was stopping most from seeing. Aizawa had spent a lot of thought and time working on these pairs.
“Kirishima and Sato are with Cementoss, I paired them on strength and they have close grades as well as their quirks are both short term. Both friendly and enjoy working in teams. Let’s see how they fare against Cementoss who can change the location outlook in a matter of seconds” Aizawa smirked to the fellow Pro who thought for a moment and then nodded.
“I wouldn’t hurt them as much as the other students if I go for a hit and they need to work on speed and agility. A very good pairing Eraserhead” Cementoss nodded and took the papers. He too began to look through the information provided, he had taught them and only saw Kirishima at the festival using his quirk.
“Koda and Jirou are with Mic as they both rely on sound to use their quirk, it’ll be hard to use sound when someone is yelling over the top of them” this pair was easy to see the potential for a fight. “Koji will be required to talk more and build teamwork, Jirou will be tasked with helping him”
“Yo yo that sounds awesome Eraserhead. Perfect pair for me indeed” the loud hero smiled and nodded bobbing to music that wasn’t playing as he grabbed the papers and put them down in front of him with ease.
“Shoji and Toru will be placed with Snipe. Their quirks are stealth-based and with someone shooting at them it will be hard to stay quiet and move in silence” Aizawa conducted putting the two pages together and hitting them against the table to make them even before handing them over to the hero who only nodded.
“That leaves just me” Midnight smiled and placed her head atop her hands, her smile turning into a smirk “With Mineta and Sero am I correct,” she asked licking her lips.
“Correct. I put them with you as Mineta can get” he paused shaking his head “Distracted while Sero is mostly speeding. Both with different fighting styles and outlooks on being a hero plus I found out they both look up to you” Aizawa answered with ease handing over the last pair of pages.
“I do look forward to breaking them” licking her lips again she nodded and sighed out. Placing the pages down “Are we done? So soon” she questioned, that was a short meeting but if the pairs were decided it was to be expected.
“No, there is one more student” Aizawa sighed and everyone was paying full attention “Y/N” he breathed out and everyone nodded. “Her quirk can be used in any situation and against any quirk, plus they can become physical. She could simply put an illusion of herself and no one would know the difference” he looked down to the paper seeing her face in the picture “I don’t know what to do” he answered honestly “She was first in the festival and first grade-wise, I heard the other students. She hadn’t slept in days to study for the test” the teachers all nodded.
“Her quirk is a problem, she could easily get past any of us” Cementoss nodded adding his input into the conversation. Everyone sat in silence as Aizawa looked down to the paper with all her details. She was a perfect student for UA.
“She athletic as well” everyone turned to Snipe, the teacher who had taken her as a sidekick for a week. “She beat me in hand to hand” that stopped the teachers. “Her quirk works on thinking, she showed me something that” he paused and shook his head and licking his lips behind his mask “She had a conversation with me while also talking to a coworker at the same time. Her mind was doing two different things simultaneously while also keeping up the illusion”
Midnight shook her head “That takes extreme power, in the festival her illusion looked so real. I believed it” She added nodding her head, a hand coming to her chin to think. Cementoss agreed.
“She doesn’t rely purely on her quirk but also does. No matter who she went against, if it was a formal and acknowledged physical fight, if someone managed to beat her, I would be quite impressed” Snipe nodded as the other teachers agreed. Snipe was the only one who knew of her ‘weakness’ but he would never tell and even if he did it wouldn’t matter she knew everyone here.
“I have an idea” Principal Nezu spoke up thoughtfully and all the teachers were open ears for the suggestion “What if we all went against her at once. It would prove she’s been working on her quirk, how many things she can create at one given moment. How quickly she can think and act” it was a good idea but the idea of it was unfair. “It may seem unfair to the child but we don’t have another option” all the teachers agreed, though some not looking as determined as others. “Though she has one rule” why would she have a rule and no one else, her test was already quite unfair. “She must show at least one teacher her true self during the exercise, she needs a challenge” the teachers felt bad but it was for her good. They had to test her as hard as they could. Even if she took down two maybe three teachers they would be impressed.
“Then it’s decided, Y/N goes against all of us, at once”

Y/N P.O.V
Once all the names were called out with their pairs I looked around and was confused. I was guessing they put a group of three, had they forgotten about me? Was I not seen as a threat that much that they just excluded me? “Um” I put my hand up and the class stopped talking turning to me. “I wasn’t paired,” I said slowly smiling as I did, an awkward smile and I could see the confusion of my peers.
“You’re a special case Y/N” Aizawa looked me dead in the eyes and I nodded slowly, my eyebrows drawn in confusion as I waited for an answer pursing my lips. “You will be fighting” I nodded and smiled, OK, so I wasn’t getting kicked out or something.
“OK” I nodded slowly and looked around “Am I joining a pair or something” I looked around and saw pleading faces for me to join groups. I had to be joining a group, there was no other way to complete the test or was someone going to have to do it twice, would I do it alone?
“You will be competing alone” Aizawa added carefully and I felt my hands shake slightly, I could beat them. I nodded still confused. All the teachers were taken. What weren’t they telling me?
“Am I getting a teacher brought in or something or is a teacher doubling up?” I asked looking over everyone before landing back on Aizawa for the answer. Everyone was silent as the teachers waited for the answer and my peers listened in.
“You are very strong” Aizawa began, this didn’t sound good. Bakugou and Midoriya already had All Might who was the top hero. Was I going to be fighting Endeavor or something, Best Jeaniest maybe? I felt my heart begin to race “After some talk and decision making we decided that you” he paused and then looked straight at me with a smirk “Will be fighting us all at once” I felt my eyes grow wide and gasps were heard behind me as my heart sank.
I was going to be fighting them all… at once. Alone. Someone catch me. ________________________________________________________________

A Hunter’s Prey: Everything is Going to be Different Now
I didn’t know how long I had been crying when Illumi finally pulled me away from the scene of the crime. Police were patrolling the park even since they saw a huge flock of crows heading towards there. I couldn’t even stand facing the corpse of beloved friends again. I should be comforting Machi. She knew them better. These were her friends .
“I’m going to take her out of here,” said Illumi to Machi.
“Good idea,” she said. Her voice was hoarse due to the screaming match she had earlier. “I’ll clean this up. The boss will at least want to bury them.”
“No,” I mumbled feeling tired from all the crying and exhaustion from the last few hours. “I-I can help.”
My weak pleas fell on deaf ears. Illumi only pulled me along as I didn’t have much strength to fight him or did I have the drive to try. I couldn’t even have the energy to leave the crook of his arm. My feet would only carry me as far as he would take me.
Before long, we’d reached a hotel at the edge of town away from the park, Heaven’s Arena, and the silent call of the police. I stood silently as Illumi asked for a room from the front staff. He gave a fake name and I.D. Once we’d gotten the room, Illumi finally led me to the bed.
I collapsed on top of it. My body felt a numb tingle that reminded me of static noise. Too much of this seemed like a dream while all being too real. “I shouldn’t have brought you into this,” muttered Illumi as he took a seat in the armchair across from the bed.
I wanted to respond; however, my voice wouldn’t come. I felt a sickness surge through my body. A nausea that I only feel when anxiety spikes beyond belief. My body moved on its own as it carried me to the restroom to relieve myself of all contents inside my stomach. Kneeling besides the toilet, all I could think about was Kortopi and Shalnark discussing how they’re going to be traveling. The two unknowingly less than an hour away from their death.
My head pounded against my skull as I wretched until I felt nothing but an empty stomach that left me in pain. Illumi watched me from the entrance of the bathroom. My hand weakly went to flush before closing the lid and leaning back against the tub of the shower.
Illumi took a seat right next to me but sitting on the tub itself. “You don’t have to watch over me,” I mutter while leaning my head back and closing my eyes. I hear the water running before feeling a cool cloth on my forehead.
“I know,” he spoke.
“I’m just tired.”
“I know.”
“You can leave,” I say while pressing the cool towel so that water rushes down every inch of my face. “I just want to stay here a little longer.”
He didn’t respond; however, I could still feel the heat of his body next to mine. His long hair tickled some of my face but I refused to move. This spot was perfect for letting the emotions wash over me once again. Tears refused to appear. I was only left with shaky breaths and a cold forehead.
Suddenly, I felt a hand on my head. Illumi’s cold fingers ran through my hair. I opened my eyes to see him looking down at the floor while trying the most physical contact as he can muster. He’s trying to help even if he doesn’t know how. His gesture broke my heart all over again. “The first kill I saw was by Father. One of the butlers had acted up. Father told me to kill him, I refused. Father got more angry at my refusal and killed him for me. As punishment, I was forced into the prisons. He beat me endlessly for days.”
“Oh god,” I said while moving my hand to hold his on top of my head. His eyes never left the absent void that took over his vision. It was as if he was reliving the pain all over again; yet, he said it with such conviction. “How old were you?”
“Two.”
I sat up even further even though my quaking body pushed against me. “You were only two? H-how? Why?”
“I disobeyed. It is what happens.”
“And all your brothers?”
“Their experience was a little later. Milluki at 2 and a half. Killua, Alluka, and Kalluto at 3. I and Milluki had too many nightmares or he would have started sooner. 3 seemed to be the perfect age.”
I didn’t know how to respond to the messed up situation placed before me. He was trying to help but all I felt was bad for everyone around me. Everyone had lost so much and I was finally catching up to the program. I entered a war with kicking and screaming.
“I’m sorry,” was all that fell from my lips.
“I won’t treat our children that way. Since I’m not the heir…” his voice trailed off for the first time since I’d met him. This was a very different Illumi. His past is held under a tight lock and key. He holds it all in so tightly that he has to pick his thoughts. He’s always so calm and collected because a wrong choice could lead to more punishment by his father.
“Already thinking of our children?” I ask while pulling my hand away from my hair. Illumi catches my hand first and takes off the blood soaked white cloth that I’d wrapped around it long ago.
“Yes of course.” My hand was a sore, bloody mess. The bleeding had stopped a while ago; yet, the coagulated blood had become dry and itchy. I removed the other hand’s covering. “How did this happen?”
“Nen,” I mumbled. “I used my Nen to create a makeshift metal to cut through Hisoka’s ability. All I could think about was saving Machi yet I was hurt in the process.”
“I see.” His eyes finally left the void as he turned to look at me. If I didn’t know any better, I could’ve sworn his eyes were a little more glossy than before. “We need to get you clean. I’m hoping the concierge doesn’t call the police.”
I scrunch my nose in confusion before I notice all the dried blood on my shirt. I lifted the cloth from my face to see it stained in the same crimson as my clothes. “Oh,” I responded with realization at how I must look. I tried to push myself up but the wounds on my hands sent me spiraling back down in pain.
Illumi held onto my arm as he pulled me up and into the tub. “You don’t have to do this. I can take care of myself.”
“I know,” He said before walking to the door. “If you need, call. I’m going to see about getting you a change of clothing. You can take a bath by yourself?”
“Yes,” I said while already starting to strip off my shirt. Illumi nodded before leaving the door open a crack. I finished getting undressed and the water started. A bath was perfect for what I needed. I didn’t want to move but I needed to get clean. Slowly, the bath started to turn a light shade of pink as blood mixed with water. I washed every bit of my body until I felt mildly clean.
My mind cleared a bit in the soaking tub. The heat made me feel even more tired than my aching body did. Once I felt I was clean enough, I let the water out, grabbed a towel, and finally stood on my own two feet.
Illumi hadn’t returned when I finally was able to walk out of the bath. I laid down on the bed with only a towel wrapped tightly around my body. The air conditioning pumped out a cool breeze while giving a high pitched hum. I could feel my mind wander to sleep before I registered that it was what was actually happening.
I only awoke to Illumi shaking my body. “I’ve gotten you some new clothes and some food.” I sat up while looking at the fashion sense that Illumi had picked out for me. He had gotten a few outfits and a set of pjs to wear. They weren’t terrible. In fact, I’d call them fashionable. I changed into the PJs in front of him before taking a bite of the toast given to me.
“Thank you. I must’ve fallen asleep.”
“Yes,” he says while removing his shirt to crawl into bed. He looked as tired as I felt. Sleep still held me tightly. I finished the simple platter of toast and a hard boiled egg before climbing back into bed with him. Instead of splitting sides like back at Kukuroo Mountain, Ilumi held out his arm so that I could lay on his chest. I obliged.
“Illumi?” I asked as his arm wrapped around me so that I could feel a little comfort in this tiny room.
“Hmm,” he said while raising an eyebrow and looking at me.
“What is your plan for us in the future?”
He paused to think. I was getting used to the pauses before answering questions. Weirdly enough, I knew he would actually answer them. Before, it was so easy to not hear an answer to my questions. Now, I knew he wanted to answer.
“We have 4 kids. We move off the mountain and into another location as we have to. I’ll still keep with the business even though Killua has returned. You can work if you want. You don’t have to. We’d teach Nen to the children so they can be protected. That’s all I have planned so far.”
“You’re really stuck on four kids.”
“It's how many siblings I have.”
“I see.” With my head on Illumi’s chest, I could hear his soft heartbeat. My eyes closed at the sound. I wanted it to null me back to sleep. “Everything going to be different now?”
“Yes. For you it will,” he responded with the same groggy tone as me. He was falling asleep as fast as I was.
“Why not you?”
“I’ve been through this before.”
“Illumi?”
“Yes?”
“How many people have you killed?”
“You don’t want to know?”
“Then how old was your first kill?”
“2. Only three days after.”
“I’m sorry, Ill,” I mutter. The pounding of his heart felt more like a metronome that was slowly putting me into a deep trance. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he responded before kissing the top of my head. That was the signal to my brain to finally allow me to rest.
