Even w advancements in science / technology, a resource surplus that could support the planet’s entire population, and the invention of industrialized processes that ensure minimal manual labor, we still measure a person’s worth and right to life by the labor they can produce and their willingness to sacrifice themselves for a job / employer that would only ever sacrifice one thing in return - them

Governments really cater to people who are married, with kids, than the people who aren't married, with kids. It's unfortunate. I don't wish to bring anyone in this harsh world. It's not worth it, in my honest opinion.

What is societally considered attractive is weird, like it’s such odd features that just aren’t this universally attractive traits people make it out to be, and idk if it’s just because I only learned of this “norm” later in life or what but frankly it’s bizarre. Like the biggest and easiest example is the “skinny is attractive” and like it isn’t unattractive or anything and can be attractive don’t get me wrong but like it shouldn’t be something people starve themselves over, at that point it’s unhealthy and painful and at least to me that unhealthy obsession is a bad trait (which no hate to you lot but please eat) and it gets in the way of people living there lives for no reason just so you can look the same as edited photos, when beauty and all that comes from no place like that.

i saw this reel on a the instagram story of someone i follow, i didn't know all the details of what was going on in the video, but when i watched it it was clear to me that this was a peaceful protest with lots if cops around, and that sends the message that the cops are so threatened by people who are striking in the street merely because they are faced up against a problem that society has perpetuated and they want to band together with like-minded people to express how they feel and the position they are in

update: ohhhh i think i know what this is about now. i've been hearing about this online lately, where in the uk budget cuts have been made and are being made where there's no longer funding to quality of life activities for people who have disabilities.

i think it's a bit of a tricky issue because having funding for things that bring people joy, for things that allow them to interact with friends, and events they can take part in that make them happy is important because these are elements of life that bring balance, peace, health, connection, relief, love, and fulfillment to people.

i've seen this message presented by influencers whose lives are dictated by capitalism though, which is a system that seeks to minimize, diminish, and disregard people's inherent needs and desires.

inherently capitalism operates effectively through harming people who think and feel in ways that are different than the people who own the companies which have control over our society, the distribution of resources, and how each person living in our society views and interacts with the infrastructure that the people in power operate and have control over, which trickles down to how people who think and feel in a unique way (such as those who are neurodivergent, are part of the lgbtqa+ community, cis females and those who identify with the female gender and are affected by misogyny, people who have mental illness, people who have been abused, and people who do not have enough money to live comfortably and reasonably).

i think when someone has a disability it makes it difficult to involve themselves in things like acquiring a job as well as to get opportunities to be emotionally, socially, and mentally fulfilled and happy. that having a disability makes it even more difficult than it already is for people who don't have a disability (in the way this social issue is referring to) to earn money they need to purchase things that capitalism makes it so that they need to, via using money to get food, water, shelter and items as well as experiences (social ones or ones that involve self care and/or a solo activity) that make them happy - people need bodily requirements as well as mental and emotional requirements because mental health is health!

The other day I exposed the man that did this to me in a space he had some power and influence not because I wanted to confront him but because I wanted to scream in a place that I felt heard by more than 5 people. Everyone called me brave for opening up about that and exposing this but truth be told I was fully expecting to face repercussions and consequences, or to be ignored, told to stop lying, or ostracized from that community. This is a cultural issue as survivors of this we should speak out against those that robbed us of so much, as a wider society we need to believe victims not dehumanize them and teach those that are young to speak out if it happens and show that even those in power should be held accountable for this.

what an odd crossroads my identity stands at... as i watch video essays on youtube about my place in society as represented in media, i find that i understand more and more why it's so difficult to accept myself as aroace. in american media, asians experience this "model minority" stereotype, where the men are depicted as "almost asexual in a way that would not be predatory towards 'our women'" in a backhanded way basically saying asian men aren't good enough for american relationships. while i do not identify as cisgendered or heteronormative, it doesn't feel good to be told that. i dont want to be a threat to anyone, but i also do not want to be treated as a second rate citizen. some part of me, out of spite, thought being straight and being in a relationship with a white woman was me taking power back for myself from the societal norm. kinda feels like...i already play into so many of the stereotypes, i dont want to play into this one too just to prove them all right. but actually i dont know any asian guy friends of mine that are ace. and maybe the struggle is harder for them because they actually are interested in pursuing heteronormative relationships. and it makes me feel that i would misrepresent my fellow asian men by being me. there's no direction in this post, but this introspection will benefit me somehow, someday.
