Welcome to the Adventure!

Welcome to my world of Lumariea or Lumaria both will be used.

In this game, you and your fellow players will embark on an exciting journey as characters are transported to a new world through magic. Drawing inspiration from series like Log Horizon, The Tick Tocks I Saved, and LitRPG books such as HWFWM, the focus is on enjoyment and immersion in a fantastical setting.

Real World Characters: Players create characters who have lives and backgrounds in the "IRL" world, including motivations and connections to their friends and family. These characters must be willing to embark on an adventure and leave their ordinary lives behind for an extended period.

Transition to Alternate World: An event transports players’ characters to a liminal space within the game. Here, players, in character, will create a D&D-style character that their real-world character will "spawn" as in the alternate world.

Entering the Alternate World: Once characters are created for the game world, players find themselves in an alternate world. Here, they are equipped with a "system" in their heads that provides quests, lore, skills, levels, and other helpful information.

Gameplay Mechanics: Players will navigate this new world as their game characters, using their newfound abilities and powers. The system assists them with quests and adventures, emulating the progression and mechanics found in LitRPG stories.

This setup ensures that players can enjoy the immersion of being transported to a new world while maintaining a connection to their original characters and backgrounds. It incorporates the excitement of exploring a fantastical realm with game mechanics inspired by popular LitRPG tropes.

PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works, and Marvel Games have joined forces to realize the latest in tag team fighters, MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls! Experience the Marvel Universe like never before with reimagined characters and stages, a heart-pounding soundtrack, intuitive gameplay mechanics, and jaw-dropping visuals that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Whether this is your first fighting game or you are a veteran of the genre, Arc System Works has incorporated gameplay controls and mechanics that are easy to pick up and play, and yet still offer the depth and versatility for high level competition.

“From the beginning, we aimed to make MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls a title that could be enjoyed by a wide variety of players,” explains game director and lead battle designer, Kazuto Sekine.

“Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters, but for MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game. We have designed the mechanics in such a way that you can perform a variety of actions with either traditional fighting game inputs or simple inputs. With the press of a few buttons, multiple characters can appear on screen to provide backup or attack together—creating a new and exciting team VS battle experience.”

Characters

Enter the fray with iconic Marvel heroes and villains such as Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes)—each with Arc System Works’ unique twist on their character designs and gameplay styles.

Arc System Works Producer, Takeshi Yamanaka, states, “There are so many amazing Marvel characters that it was quite a struggle to choose our roster, but we did have some criteria for the selection process. First and foremost, we wanted to include characters who we feel to be the ‘face’ of Marvel. At the same time, we also needed to select characters that would give us a balance of battle types and styles. Lastly, we wanted to sprinkle in a few surprises and leave room for characters who have never been playable in a fighting game before.”

Yamanaka-san continues, “Early on in the project, we experimented with a shader to recreate a more western comic-book visual style, but the Marvel team expressed a desire for us to lean into something more [Arc System Works]-like. It was then that we switched our approach to the game’s visuals and began to lean more into the Japanimation style [Arc System Works] is known for.”

Gameplay Mechanics

From short-ranged jabs to the cinematic Ultimate Skills, each character features a bespoke set of Normal, Special, and Unique attacks inspired by their abilities and powers in Marvel lore. Arc System Works has gone to great lengths to ensure that gameplay style, movement, and feel of these legendary characters is fresh, new, and wholly unique to MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls.

But it’s not just the individual gameplay of the characters that has been enhanced; significant dedication has gone into reimagining and redefining what it means to be a tag team fighter.

“Team VS fighting games have a long tradition of two-versus-two or three-versus-three team formats, so this is something we discussed in-depth within the development team. We went back and forth many times, from thinking we might be better off making a one-versus-one game or sticking to the established three-versus-three format.”

Sekine-san continues, “At its core, we felt that the appeal of team VS fighting games is the intensity of battles with multiple characters on screen at once. Additionally, one of the appeals of Marvel comics is seeing the vast cast of characters coming together to create all kinds of unique team-ups.”

“With these two ideas in mind, we concluded that creating a four-versus-four team VS system would be the best way to not only create those over-the-top moments, but to further evolve the tag fighting genre.”

Stages

The stages come to life in MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls, filled with easter eggs for eagle-eyed fans to find. Most stages also feature multiple areas. These transitions between areas are not just action-packed and stunning to witness, but they also play a strategic role. luo binghe has never felt comfortable in his own skin. as a small child, it was a little bit easier to ignore the discomfort. his mother never placed too much importance on the man he would become, but she treasured the little child she had. he often dreamed that one day he would grow to be as kind as her, beautiful inside and out. he imagined surrounding her with beautiful things, and making himself beautiful enough to fit. sometimes he daydreamed of dressing his mother in bright, happy colors and painting her face with pretty makeup. sometimes, he imagined treating himself the same.

he envied the girls in the city. he never saw the wealthy boys being cruel to them. they got to wear happy colors and eat sweets, and the world was kind to them. would the world have been kind to him too, if he got to be a girl? perhaps not—the world was cruel to his mother, after all, and she was the most wonderful, beautiful, deserving woman alive. still, he couldn’t help imagining. maybe, at the very least, the older boys wouldn’t beat him so viciously. it was nice to imagine. if the world were kinder, perhaps he would have gotten to be a girl.

and then his mother died, and he was alone, and he remembered that the world wasn’t kind, and pretty things weren’t for him. being alone so small was hard, and he put away his dreams of happy-colored silks and pretty makeup. what use was it to imagine that sort of thing when there was no one to share those joyful dreams with?

when he joined cang qiong mountain sect, he was greeted by ming fan, the head disciple, who looked down his pointy nose at binghe as soon as they met. he seemed much like those older boys from before, the ones who beat him for the crime of being poor and hungry, and who despised his hardworking mother for being the same. but this was a new beginning, a new life, and cultivators were not like the cruel children in the city. they were better. they protected the weak, and they opposed evil at every turn. luo binghe reminded him of this fact as he followed his new shixiong to their shizun’s house.

twenty minutes later, luo binghe slunk to the baths to wash the tea from his skin.

there was only one other disciple there, a towel over his eyes as he soaked, and luo binghe did his best to be quiet and unobtrusive. he didn’t know the rules of the cultivation sects yet—clearly, he must have violated one to have offended his shizun so terribly. he resolved to be quiet and attentive, to listen and learn from his seniors, and to repent quickly should he cause further offense from his ignorance.

so, he did his best to bathe quietly and quickly, but he must have made too much noise splashing about in the water, because the soaking shixiong jolted and the towel dropped from his face into the bath. he jolted again upon seeing luo binghe’s face, and nearly dunked himself below the water’s surface as he recoiled in surprise.

‘this luo binghe greets shixiong,’ binghe said, his eyes averted and voice just loud enough to be heard. ‘i apologize for disturbing shixiong; i can leave first and return when shixiong is finished.’ he quickly moved to do just that, but after a moment that shixiong’s warm voice called for him to wait.

‘apologies to luo-shidi,’ he said, hunching in on himself. his profile was illuminated only by the fire burning toward the other end of the bath, but from what luo binghe could see, his features seemed sharp and elegant. ‘this shixiong is shen yuan. i must have dozed off; i didn’t realize there was anyone else here. you, ah—shidi was chosen today? have you met shizun already, and da-shixiong?’

luo binghe’s cheeks burned at the memory of tea splashing over his head, of his embarrassing display afterward. his eyes still felt puffy from his tears, and his throat was sore. childish. ‘yes. i wonder how—that is, this one wonders whether shixiong…how was it meeting shizun for the first time?’

at the question, shen yuan let out a decidedly graceless snort. ‘it’s complicated. i met shizun three years ago, in one of the villages at the base of the mountain. it was a difficult situation, and there was more to worry about than making good impressions at the time.’ he sniffed and brought a hand up to tuck a strand of hair behind his ear. ‘shizun is not very good at making positive impressions. was it that way with you?’

those words uncoiled something small and terrified in luo binghe’s chest, even as he felt a sense of heavy guilt at being relieved to hear his senior speaking about their shizun so disrespectfully. ‘shizun is a renowned cultivator,’ luo binghe said carefully, ‘and as the lord of qing jing peak, of course he is unmatched in elegance. i must have offended him somehow… he didn’t accept my tea, but he didn’t throw me out either, and for that i’m grateful. this disciple only wants to improve himself, and to be worthy of the kindness shizun has shown in allowing him to stay and learn’

shen yuan…scoffed. scoffed? had binghe said something wrong again? of course he had—this was a peak of elegant, wise scholars and artists and strategists, and luo binghe was a street rat. of course he’d offend everyone he met; he was—

‘shizun can be an asshole.’

…what?

unperturbed, as if he hadn’t just spoken with such incredibly crude disrespect, shen yuan continued. ‘he can be cruel and calculating and mean. i doubt luo-shidi did anything wrong. i will speak with him tomorrow on shidi’s behalf, and see whether we can come to a resolution before things become more complicated than they need to be.’

‘shixiong needn’t trouble himself!’ panic flooded luo binghe at the thought of causing such problems so quickly after being accepted here. surely, shizun would throw him out if he found out binghe were so arrogant as to complain to the first shixiong he saw. ‘shizun is the master of qing jing peak; how can his judgment be called into question? if he says this disciple was wrong, this disciple was wrong and will correct himself. please don’t trouble shizun over this disciple’s failure. i don’t wish to cause problems, only to learn and improve myself. please.’

a long, heavy silence stretched between them, and luo binghe became acutely aware that he was not dressed. how embarrassing, to be undressed and begging for mercy from a shixiong he had only just met. he pulled his knees to his chest on the bench, covering as much of himself as he could.

finally, shen yuan let out a heavy sigh. ‘alright,’ he said, his voice barely loud enough to be heard over the distance and the water. ‘this shixiong won’t make trouble for luo shidi. only, if shizun doesn’t accept anything luo shidi does, you must promise to tell me. the same with any other disciple; if anyone is cruel to luo shidi, you must let me know. this shixiong hates bullies, and i would hate for anyone to embarrass qing jing peak with childishness—shizun included.’

how terribly bold. the daring words of his shixiong unsettled something in binghe’s chest. clearly, he was a troublemaker binghe should be careful of, lest he be pulled into the boys schemes himself.

A small book that can access a vast magical library.

Advantage on Intelligence checks when researching a topic.

Once per long rest, can cast Comprehend Languages without using a spell slot.

Resonance Stone (500 pts):

Prerequisite: Spellcasting ability

Once per long rest, recover one expended spell slot of 3rd level or lower.

Multitool of Crafting (450 pts):

Contains all tools needed for any artisan's tools set.

Proficiency with all artisan's tools while using this item.

Social and Stealth

Chameleon Cloak (550 pts):

Advantage on Stealth checks in natural environments.

As an action, can cast Disguise Self once per short rest.

Diplomat's Brooch (400 pts):

Advantage on Persuasion checks when negotiating on behalf of a group or organization.

Once per long rest, can cast Tongues without using a spell slot.

Consumables

Potion of Possibility (150 pts each, max 3 per character):

When consumed, allows you to reroll one d20 roll you just made.

Must use the new roll.

Scroll of Emergency Recall (300 pts each, max 2 per character):

When read, teleports you and up to 5 willing creatures within 30 feet to a predetermined safe location.

Must be prepared in advance by designating a safe location.

Special Rules

A character cannot purchase a feat they already have.

Purchasing a feat or proficiency through the System Store does not count against any feats gained through level progression or other means.

The DM has final say on whether a character can purchase a particular feat or proficiency, based on the character's background and the campaign setting.

Some feats or proficiencies might require prerequisites (such as a minimum ability score or existing proficiency). These prerequisites must be met before the feat or proficiency can be purchased.

The DM may introduce special, campaign-specific feats or proficiencies at custom System Point costs.
