Besties I strongly dislike Scott Cawthon but the fnaf movie was good and I’m annoyed that it was good. Like. The joy I felt watching the movie (and also cried like twice cus it hit way too close to home as an older sibling) is unparalleled. But also. Scott Cawthon is an awful person and supports people who want me dead? And also doesn’t believe women should have the right to basic medical care? And. My feelings are so conflicting rn. I want to separate my love for the series from Scott Cawthon. But if I did that I wouldn’t be any better than HP fans.

I think it’s okay to have these complicated feelings and talk about them. I’m still trying to figure it out myself?

I guess the big difference between JKR and Scott is that he avoids talking about his opinions and the only reason we know these things is due to his voting record and who he gives money to (which btw I don’t believe donating to lgbt charities makes up for voting for the party that wants to commit genocide against us. It’s still shitty. Like yay he’s donating to the Trevor project but also. Damn voting for these people that want us to not have rights and don’t want us to be alive really hurts).

He is still actively harming the community. Even if he isn’t outwardly spewing hateful rhetoric (unless he’s gotten worse. Or unless his opinions have rapidly changed over the past couple of years. If so please feel free to correct me, just not without sources).

But his series has basically transcended his control. It’s not controlled by him. It’s controlled by the fans. Half the shit that’s canon now wouldn’t be canon without the fans and it’s this big collaborative effort and that’s what’s so beautiful about it. Unlike jkr whose views and specifically racism are baked into her properties.

But he still gets money from it.

And he could be using that money to support some really awful people.

Idk. It’s complicated.

I don’t like or support Scott Cawthon. But I love fnaf. I grew up with it. I love the community. And it really influenced my love for horror media. And gods this movie was great. I had such a good time watching it.

I don’t know what point I’m trying to get at.

I guess I’m just sorta venting.

It sucks loving something when it’s creator who actively gains money from it supports some truly awful people.

I want to be able to put my feelings aside so I can joyfully rant about this movie without mentioning “gosh I wish Scott wasn’t involved” but that obviously isn’t the case.

I don’t expect any response to this post. Im just sorta putting my feelings out there into the void. And if someone relates I hope they know they aren’t alone.

And if you’re gonna say something hateful or something that outwardly supports conservatives I will gladly block you. There is no excusing the active genocide being perpetrated by the Republican Party against the queer community, but more specifically trans people. And if you support that then you can gladly get the fuck off my page. I will not tolerate bigotry.

Also don’t harass anyone mentioned in this post. I really don’t want their fans to harass me and don’t want them to have a reason to. I’m not very popular but last time I posted about Scott I got a bunch of death threats from a bunch of middle aged white men and trolling teenagers. And I do not have the mental capacity to deal with that right now. I’m dealing with a nasty bout of Covid and a nicely sized second degree burn from a cooking accident on top of my chronic illness I don’t need to be harassed.

I think they should make a FNAF movie for every game in order of release date (disregarding the in-world chronological order) with the same characters every time (FNAF 4 is just Mike tripping on acid for 3 hours on screen and every once in a while the POV pans from the nightmare to him baked off his ass on the couch irl) and when they finish they should make a live action TV series of all the books mashed together in the same universe, also by release date, with Mike dying in every way they have in Fazbear Frights

Hey, so am I the only one who's kinda curious as to why we give so much shit to J.K. Rowling for being a stupid TERF (which is deserved, might I add), but Scott Cawthon got off pretty good all things considered for donating to people like Trump???

I think there have been a few times I've brought Scott's shit up and have been essentially told to shut up, that "it's not too bad"...

Unlike Rowling, where every shitty thing she did and still does, it's constantly in our faces and a good amount of the fans (that I've seen at least) acknowledge and admonish her, but the FNAF community (again, that I've seen) seem to not like anyone bringing it up or just brush it off (I think some people are still JUST finding out about the donations because a lot of people seem to try and hide it???), even though Scott has said he wouldn't apologize despite him donating to homophobic, transphobic, and just, all-around bad people who have the power to take away people's rights to be themselves

Just... I feel like we should give the same energy to Cawthon that we give Rowling since they both suck as people, and I’m definitely guilty of not giving Scott enough shit

Seeing PinkyPills being mentioned again on twitter. After hearing what she did, it makes me more happier that she is off the FNAF team. I now want to redrew her previous works like with other artists did back then. Because, 1. I need practice. 2. Someone on Spanish Youtube made a video about her. And it isn’t a negative one. It is actually a positive one. Yeah, seriously.

I won’t do anything sexual or related to any fandoms. Just FNAF. I won’t be good, but it will be cool seeing what I can do better than the confirmed MAP/pedophile. Again, I’m not kidding.

It’s literally why Scott Cawthon « retired » back in June 2021 when the list of the politicians to whom he donated money went viral.

He reacted to the bad buzz in a lengthy post on Reddit saying he loved all the people in his fanbase and still is Republican, Christian and pro-life (barfing a bit at this last one but that’s a personal reaction). He got doxxed and that’s really shitty, you don’t do that.

He still gets money from the games, books and movie (he’s a co-writer of several if not all the books under the FNAF franchise).

I am in a bit of anguish over the fact Scott seems to have changed Spring Bonnie's eye color. I loved the original green ones Adventure Spring Bonnie had. But in the movie, Spring Bonnie's original eye color was a bright blue, like Golden Freddy's one eye. It better shows the connection these two entities have.

In other words, even though I loved the green eyes so much, the blue ones are a better creative choice. Plus, this isn't the first time Scott Cawthon retconned something. He kinda throws things together, makes a retcon and prays nobody cares. I'm sorry I failed him.

I just thought the green eyes were cool...!

Look, I love the franchise and really enjoyed the movie, but this is something we shouldn't forget

Scott may have created a cool series, but he's still a right-wing dick and he deserves the criticism

I used to look up to Scott as an artist, as someone who failed time and time again until he finally succeeded in something he was passionate about and loved to do

I was so inspired by his story...

... and then everything came out. He supported these bigoted people who were working to strip rights away from people for not being cis, straight, white men

Honestly, it's kind of maddening that people forgot about this, including myself

This man, Scott Cawthon, deserves to be criticized for donating to take what should be basic human rights away from marginalized groups

That said, I don't think the death threats he got were right. Prove that you're better than these hateful people by being smart instead of violent

At this point, I don't think we'll change the minds of people like Scott. They're too set in their hateful ideas

BUT we can help lead others down the correct path before they get too far, but only if we fight with knowledge and facts instead of threats that make us all look just as bad as the people we criticize

Edit: After thinking about it for a bit, I wanted to clarify that just because I'm against death threats and the like, doesn't mean I'm against calling someone names if I think they're an idiot

Like, you can still be mean to people who are trying to strip away basic human rights without sending death threats or telling them to KYS

I, myself, have called people like Trump, Rowling, and Cawthon fucking idiots and assholes. I've called them monsters before for hurting so many people and still working towards hurting more

In fact, I believe we SHOULDN'T be nice to these people. That's how we got here in the first place, by trying to be kind to those who don’t deserve it

But threats of bodily harm and death take it way too far and also hurt the people you are trying to help more than it hurts the person you're threatening

I hope this makes sense, I have no idea how to really explain this if I'm being honest

No one has talked to me about this or anything, I just thought about it and became genuinely worried someone may take this as "be quiet and compliant," which is the last thing I want

You have the right to speak up

You have the right to be hurt, mad, disappointed, and express that

TL;DR: Death threats are bad and don't help anyone, but you don't have to be nice to those trying to harm and silence you
