chapter 19: Good hospital scene
Good morning!!
What a crisp morning.
[HONOKA:] Gooood morning!!
Sure is brisk, isn't it?
------
I haven’t had such a nice morning in days.
It’s all thanks to you, Saijo.
[HONOKA:] I feel like it's been a long time since I had such a nice morning.
And I get the feeling I owe it all to you, Saijou.
------
If you became a counselor, you’d become famous.
When I talk to you, I feel so refreshed...
[HONOKA:] I'm pretty sure you'd be incredibly famous if you became a counselor!
That's how much [it helps] when I talk to you. It's like poison being cleared from my body...
-----
I can tell I’m getting more calm and cool.
I’m unworthy of such a psychiatric genius.
[HONOKA:] I can tell that I'm calming down and gaining some peace of mind.
You must be a natural genius at psychotherapy. I don't hold a candle to you.
-----
OK, maybe I’ll go wake Kiryu up now.
Until yesterday, I didn’t think he’d get up,
but this morning, I thought of his smile,
and thought it must be a good omen.
[HONOKA:] Hm, should I go wake Kiryuu up now?
Until yesterday, I was fixating on this idea that he'd never wake up...
..but for some reason, I pictured him smiling when I woke up today.
I thought to myself, "Oh, that's a good omen."
------
So I flew out here.
I wonder how he is? I hope he’s woken up.
[HONOKA:] So I just hurried right over.
I wonder how he's doing...? I hope he's woken up.
------
I don’t know if I told you yesterday or not,
but if demons exist, this must be one.
[HONOKA:] Oh, I dunno if I mentioned this yesterday...
...but if demons exist, I'm about to tell you about one.
------
I met someone like that.
I met him when I was leaving this hospital.
[HONOKA:] That's the kind of guy I met.
I met him just as I was leaving this very hospital.
------
He looked like a cheer- ful foreigner, but his
eyes were eerily bright, like they’d suck me in.
[HONOKA:] On the outside, he looked like a cheerful foreigner...
...but his eyes were eerily bright, like they were swallowing me up.
------
Like, bottomless & deep.
When I looked into his eyes, I totally froze up.
[HONOKA:] Like they were endlessly deep...
When I looked into those eyes, it was like being paralyzed.
------
He said something.
”Death is salvation. Do as you like. This is true.”
[HONOKA:] And he said something.
"Death is salvation. Do what thou wilt. That is Truth."
[NOTE: Even though Edward was the one in Kiryuu's backstory, this one line identifies the stranger as Graham. In your final battle, his Silent quotes the same line from Saint Augustine of Hippo: "Do what thou wilt." So he used his mind control abilities, which, as we learned from Hoshino and Yamato, can be used on someone without infecting them. But the Silent infection we removed yesterday was part of Edward's Silent, Maggot. You have to go by this one line and a statement in the good route that she and Hibiki both had their senses of self eroded like Tanaka.
It seems like Aleister Crowley also used the phrase "Do what thou wilt" when defining his philosophy of Thelema: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law." It's possible the devs got the quotation from him instead, since we know they were looking through books about the occult while writing the Silent dialogue.]
------
”What the hell is that?!”
I was gonna beat him down, but he was gone.
[HONOKA:] I was about to give him a good kick and yell,
"What the hell are you talking about?!"... but he was already gone.
------
Isn’t that creepy? Like a ghost in the afternoon.
Since then, I’d been feeling so depressed.
[HONOKA:] Isn't that creepy? Like seeing a ghost in the middle of the day.
After that, I started feeling completely depressed.
-----
I only thought about bad and unhappy things...
But now I’m fine!
[HONOKA:] I was only thinking about bad stuff and things that could go wrong...
But I'm fine now!
------
I had Saijo the Famous Counselor help me out.
OK, I’m going now!
[HONOKA:] Saijou the famous counselor fixed me right up.
Okay, I'm going now!

Tatsuki: Earlier today Uro had me listen to a band called Machine Girl. She seemed surprised when I just nodded and said they're nice, I think she was expecting me to have a silly reaction or something -giggles-. She's always doing funny things to try to get a reaction out of me, half the time she only gets anything because she found out I'm kind of ticklish. The other half the time she ends up giving me the silly reaction haha. I uh, don't think she realizes how noisy my head can be. Music that's loud and busy like that somehow sorta cancels it out and gives me peace, as weird as that sounds, so I actually like stuff like that a lot~
Tatsuki: Sometimes when it gets overwhelming I lay down, cover my face, and listen to really busy breakcore. It...makes me feel calm...
Tatsuki: I also don't understand why she was shocked since I like a lot of that screamy maul your face metal Sabi listens to, I just have no idea what anyone's saying.

Episode 6: Aren’t You Going to Become A Hashira?

Tanjiro (I don’t know what’s going on with Genya, but I’ve figured something out because he slashed one of them! Looks like even if we behead all four at the same time, we can’t finish them off like we did Gyutaro! Attacking these four Emotion Demons is pretty much pointless!)
Tanjiro “A, Nezuko!”
Tanjiro “Nezuko!”
Kamado Nezuko “Uuu…”

Tanjiro (Something’s been bothering me all this time. Is it possible that their heads aren’t their vital spots? Something felt so off. That scent that I caught for just an instant… Right. That was… the scent of a fifth demon! There’s a fifth demon! I have to find it! The fifth demon’s head’s got to be…)
Tanjiro “Uwa…!”
Gen’ya “Zuni…noruna-yo! Jogen’o taosu-nowa…oreda!!!”
Genya “Don’t get so full of yourself! I’m the one who’s going to defeat…an Upper Rank!”
Tanjiro “Gen’ya!!”
Tanjiro “Genya…”
Gen’ya “Jogen’no Roku’o taoshita-nowa, omaeno chikaraja nai! Dakara omaewa Hashirani natte-nai!”
Genya “You didn’t defeat Upper Six on your own! That’s why you haven’t become a Hashira!”
Tanjiro “A! Un, so-dayo.”
Tanjiro “Uh, yeah, that’s right!”
Gen’ya “Omae-nanka-yorimo…sakini…orega…”

Tanjiro “Genya! You’re drooling, okay? What’s wrong? Not to mention, you’re choking me!”
Gen’ya “Uu!”
Tanjiro “Ge!”
Gen’ya “Hashirani naru-nowa oreda!!!”
Genya “I’m the one who’s going to become a Hashira!”
Tanjiro “Naru-hodo!! Soka wakatta!! Oreto Nezukoga zen-ryoku-de engo-suru!! San-nin-de ganbaro!!”
Tanjiro “I see! I get it, sure! Nezuko and I will give you our full support! Let’s give it our all, all three of us!”

Genya “I know what you’re up to! You’re just making me let my guard down, and―Huh?”
Tanjiro “A, abunai!!”
Tanjiro “Look out!”

Tanjiro “Gen’ya! Gotai-me mitsuke-tara, sugu oshieru-kara!! Onino aite’o tanomu!”
Tanjiro “Genya! I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve found the fifth demon, so keep these demons at bay!”
Gen’ya “Mo zen’in fukkatsu shite-yagaru.”
Genya “They’ve all regenerated, dammit!”
Tanjiro “Nezuko-dakewa kiranai-yoni ki’o tsukete-kure! Oreno imoto dakara!”

When you first realized it was Mom who’d attacked our family… how did it make you feel, Big Brother? When you stood there, shattered… after killing our beloved mother… and the brother you’d fought tooth and nail to protect denounced you… how did that make you feel? Shortly after the advent of television, the “Sanpei-me” (Third Victory). During the Showa era, it was said that for every thousand households, there was one peach tree. This was the kind of peace that existed in 1954, when Godzilla made its debut. The post-war era had come to an end, and this was widely discussed. People were settling down, and there was a sense of calm. The beginning of the post-war “artistic era” was marked by the emergence of high-profile films. This can be seen as the prologue of the era in which the art world began to take shape. The production of Godzilla involved the efforts of Tanaka Kinuyo (producer), Tazawa Kyo (scriptwriter), Honda Ishiro (director), and Tsuburaya Eiji (special effects director). As the world gradually settled down, Godzilla arose from the depths of the post-war period, embodying the remnants of that time. Due to a hydrogen bomb test, the creature’s atomic energy went haywire, causing it to grow massive and emerge from its long slumber. This was a perfect example of “reverse resentment.” Despite the humans’ attacks, the creature relentlessly headed toward Japan. The human side consisted of a newspaper reporter, played by Akira Takarada, who faced the impending threat with bravery. A romantic subplot emerged between him and a woman named Rei Uehara, while the brilliant military strategist, Akira Hirata, also joined the effort. The situation escalated to the point where the army, using tanks and artillery, tried to hold off the creature, but it moved through the streets of Tokyo, towering between buildings. The destructive force of its energy was overwhelming. The heat from the radiation scorched everything in its path. Tokyo was in flames. But humanity did not give up easily. In the end, with the power of science, they were able to find a way to stop the creature.
Station. This is the place where it began. The idea spread throughout the country. And thus, it happened, but the humans, being part of a system, became the reason for the appearance of this beast—a result of the exhausting scientific civilization that was leading towards its own ruin. In the year of the five-tailed beast, this “Godzilla” was created, leaving a lasting impression. Things like the water throne and the terrifying influence of the most advanced military science, as well as the shock caused by their appearance, probably lie at the root of it all. Modern science, such as it was, reflected environmental destruction (a result of the rashness it provoked in advance). And this violent monster embodies that recklessness. However, the critique of scientific civilization was focused solely on military applications and did not extend to peaceful uses. After people began to see Godzilla as a threat, there arose a stance that peaceful applications of science, if properly used, were acceptable. In the realm of energy, for example, blind faith in science would soon lead to public hazards, but it wasn’t until the movie “Godzilla vs. Hedorah” that this was clearly recognized. In the “Godzilla” franchise, from the 30th year of its release and “Godzilla’s Counterattack,” the series developed with titles such as “King Kong vs. Godzilla” in ‘39, “Mothra vs. Godzilla,” “The Three Giant Heroes: Earth’s Greatest Battle,” “Invasion of the Monsters,” “Godzilla’s Son,” “The Mechagodzilla Showdown,” and “Godzilla vs. Hedorah,” among others.

The Quest for Buddhism (110)
Buddhist cosmology
Brahmaviharas - the meditation on compassion (Ref)
Appamanna (4 immeasurable minds) are part of the 40 Karmasthana (a total of 40 meditation objects). It refers to having a calm mind, without undue worry and without any animosity or enmity towards other lives. Also called Brahmavihāra or 4 Brahma practices.
The term appamanna refers to the 'innumerable number of sentient beings' or 'the complete fulfilment without reserve of compassion with regard to the individual sentient beings subject to it'.
The Buddhist usage of the brahma-vihara originally referred to an awakened state of mind, and a concrete attitude towards other beings which was equal to "living with Brahman" here and now. The later tradition took those descriptions too literally, linking them to cosmology and understanding them as "living with Brahman" by rebirth in the Brahma-world.
The brahmaviharas (sublime attitudes, lit. "abodes of brahma") are a series of 4 Buddhist virtues and the meditation practices made to cultivate them. They are:
Loving-kindness (Pali: metta, Skt: maitri) is the mind active good will towards all, the mind for the others' at ease.
Compassion (Pali,Skt: karuna) results from metta, it is identifying the suffering of others as one's own, the mind that wants to remove the suffering of others.
Sympathetic joy (Pali,Skt: mudita): is the feeling of joy because others are happy, even if one did not contribute to it, it is a form of sympathetic joy.
Equanimity (Pāli: upekkha, Skt: upeksa): is even-mindedness and serenity, treating everyone impartially.

-- Would you tell us more about what you've experienced in the world outside show business? Sato Masaki: I've realized that there are so many different kinds of people in the world. There're people who work too hard and that makes them end up crying or quaffing liquor to escape from the stressful reality. I had never heard of such things before. One day I went to a restaurant by myself, and when I got up from my seat, I bumped into a woman sitting at the table next to mine. She got really angry with me. But she didn't seem like the type of person who would usually say such a thing, so I asked her back "What's wrong with you? Are you in any trouble?" -- I didn't expect the situation to develop that way (laughs). Sato Masaki: Then the woman suddenly bursted into tears. I asked "Are you all right? How old are you?" She said "I'm 21, soon to be 22". As I replied "I bet we're in the same grade!", we started a lively conversation. According to what she had told me, her job was pretty hard and she didn't get paid enough for it. And then, to make matters worse, her house caught fire. So she was left with even less money.
-- She didn't notice that you are Sato Masaki during the conversation? Sato Masaki: No, she didn't. But as we kept talking, I told her a bit about myself. Of course, I didn't say anything about Morning Musume. Then she wondered and asked "Why do you have so many unusual stories? You seem being kind of solitary. Didn't you ever have a boyfriend?" I said "I've never had a boyfriend so far". she responded "That's too sad!" and got sympathetic to me just like our roles got reversed. In the first place, I had never got yelled at just by bumping into someone. But as I looked into her anger, I understood that the emotion "sad" could lead to "anger". I've learned it thanks to her, and I also realized that everybody lives worrying about others, which I've never paid much attention to throughout my life so far. -- Now you've learned about the real world through your own experience. Sato Masaki: You can say that. In the middle of our conversation her boyfriend came to pick her up, and I expected it would help her to calm her anger. But she got even angrier telling him "You're coming too late!" I was shocked once again. Still I I've learned many things by listening to their conversation, such as, she gets angry because she loves him, you need to get rid of your own values to build up a common values between you and your partner, and something like that.

BNHA 253-255 Kurogiri-Aizawa Japanese to English Translation Pt.I
In light of the latest chapter of BNHA, I thought I’d review and translate the Shirakumo chapters of the manga to give us all a refresher on who Shirakumo is, and I don’t just mean in relation to Aizawa and Yamada; I mean as a human. What kind of person is he? What kind of Hero is he?
NOTE: This post is LONG, so I had to break it into two parts. Part I covers No.253-254. Part II covers No.255.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
= “Can’t you speed up some more?”
= “Shut up and calm down.”
= “When we fought at USJ... the way he acted... I didn’t have the slightest suspicion...”
= “There is a limit... even for poor taste.”
Contextually, Aizawa is saying, "Their evil knows no bounds.”
= “I... bet Tsukauchi-san and the others misunderstood / have the wrong impression.”
Tumblr media
= “As you both know,”
= “Noumu are corpses that have been altered / modified / reconstructed by human hands to become capable of supporting / tolerating multiple Quirks.”
The literal translation for Noumu (脳無) is “no brain / brainless.”
= “But they are not living people.”
= “Everything from their hearts to their brains has been scrambled.”
= “Noumu are just dolls / puppets, marionettes on strings without wills of their own.”
Tumblr media
= “They were supposed to be [anyway].”
= “Gran Torino-san, I am missing class to be here.”
= “Please be brief.”
相澤
= “Aizawa.”
= “It is necessary that we talk through this step by step so that you are prepared as well.”
= “This guy / thing is central to the League of Villains.”
Gran Torino uses こいつ (romaji: koitsu) for Kurogiri. It can mean “he; she; this guy, this person; this; this thing.” It is impolite and can be vulgar (= highly offensive) when used to refer to someone with whom one does not share a close relationship, as is the case here. For context, as an interjection, こいつ translates into English as something like “hey, you!” or “you bastard!” or “damn you!” Gran Torino is disrespecting Kurogiri, and he is doing so even knowing that Kurogiri was created using a deceased Hero student as his base, or maybe because of it?
This is my first time translating Gran Torino, but I suspect he always speaks “gruff” like this. “Tough guy” talk and toxic masculinity—y’all know how it is. Fictional characters are significantly more likely to use coarse language than actual Japanese people are. It is more noteworthy when a character deviates from their standard pattern of conduct than when they act in accordance with it. Given Japanese culture’s emphasis on good social etiquette, whether and when a character chooses to use respectful or disrespectful language can tell us something about their personality (and motives in certain contexts), worldview, and how they think about themselves in relation to others, particularly when there are discrepancies between how they speak to and about some people compared to other people.
Take Hawks, for example. His language toward Heroes like Endeavor and Best Jeanist and even toward his abusive, emotionally unavailable parents is polite and humble. He has high regard for Heroes and at least in his speech shows basic respect for his parents, despite their flagrant mistreatment of him during his childhood. (Being polite to someone ≠ actually respecting them; for example, you would probably choose your words carefully if you had a literal or metaphoric gun to your head, but that wouldn’t mean you respect the person staring down the other side of the barrel; how many people think their employer is dumber than a sack of shit but talk to them as if they think they have a brain between their temples because letting slip how they really feel would cost them the job and their livelihood?). His language toward criminals, however, like Dabi and Ujiko, is abrasive. His poor opinion of and low regard for them, even as fellow humans, is evident in how he speaks to and about them, as if they are subhuman and inferior to himself, undeserving of basic respect and compassion.
Tumblr media
= “If we could make him talk, then we could immediately strike the head.”
Gran Torino believes Kurogiri possesses crucial intelligence that could be the deciding factor for the imminent war and it is essential Aizawa and Present Mic do their part to assist in the acquisition of that intel.
= “Unfortunately, he will absolutely not talk about anything important.”
= “He will discuss trivial matters, but [he] will not divulge information that could be disadvantageous to the League of Villains.”
= “[That’s when] he becomes unresponsive, as if his plug’s been pulled and he’s powered down.”
= “... Meaning?”
= “He’s so sophisticated, it took us a while to realize it...”
= “[But] his Quirk is a novel one created by the fusion of multiple Quirk factors.”
Hypothetically, this should mean that a vestige for each person whose Quirk was combined with Shirakumo's to create Kurogiri's Warp Gate exists somewhere deep inside him. The Quirk reflects the person as much as the person reflects the Quirk. Every Quirk carries the energetic "signature" of its host's personality. Maybe that's why Kurogiri doesn't read as a perfect 1:1 for Shirakumo?
= “And the base [Quirk] factor was...”
Tumblr media
= “... [one that belonged to someone who] once shared joys and sorrows with you all at UA High School...”
= “... a man who lost his life at a young age.”
= “[This guy’s base Quirk factor] is a close match for Oboro Shirakumo’s.”
Tumblr media
= No.254 More Than Anyone [Else], You Are a Hero
Tumblr media
= “I believe the three of us could solve [any problem]!”
= Oboro Shirakumo died during our internship.
= “Let’s build an office / agency for three people!”
= The moment he said that is when the incident happened.
= “Like I said earlier, Shouta notices / is attentive to / [has a good eye for] even the most minute details!”
= “[Sure], but only [if we agree] not to fight over money!”
= [He was] crushed by a collapsing building——... [and] died quickly / suddenly.
= Before that...
= ... we were aiming to be Heroes together.
つまり
= “In other words...”
After that short flashback and summary of unfortunate events, Gran Torino resumes speaking with this line. His other comments have been laying the groundwork for the conclusion he has reached and is about to share with Aizawa and Present Mic.
Tumblr media
= “Kurogiri is a Noumu,”
= “[and] Shirakumo’s corpse became the base for this thing——or at least it’s highly likely.”
= “...... We were even called the Three Idiots / Fools of Class A......”
馬鹿 (romaji: baka) means “idiot; moron; fool; stupid; etc.” Caleb Cook, Viz’s translator, seems to have tried to be witty by translating the phrase “the Three Idiots / Fools” as “the Three DUMBigos,” as in the Three Amigos, like the Three Musketeers, but the joke falls flat, at least for me. These characters are Japanese, live in Japan, and speak Japanese. They’re being written by a Japanese man living in Japan and creating for a Japanese audience (primarily; BNHA has had international success, but the target audience remains unchanged: Japanese people). It doesn’t make sense for these characters to use Spanish words like “amigos” or “adios.” It sounds out of place and weird because it is. It would be one thing if Horikoshi wrote his characters using borrowed phrases like that, but he didn’t and he doesn’t. Caleb’s attempt at a joke is more eyeroll-inducing than funny.
= “I don’t understand what you mean!”
Notice Yamada’s furrowed brow, the crease that has formed on his forehead, the stark stress lines around the borders of his eyes, his wobbly irises and shrunken pupils, and the beads of sweat on the side of his face. He’s distraught. It’s not that he doesn’t understand. It’s that it’s breaking his heart that he does. He understands, but he can’t accept it. This news has shaken him. He’s struggling to take it all in. He doesn’t want to, but he knows he has no choice because denying reality won’t make it go away.
= “Outstanding Quirks converge / gather at UA [High School], so it’s [perfectly] logical [to use it as a hunting ground for strong Quirks], don’t you agree?”
Tumblr media
= “[He said], ‘It’s like inconspicuously scavenging for leftovers from a three-star restaurant...’”
= “I suspect [Shirakumo’s] corpse was secretly swapped for a substitute during the cremation process...... and changed into a crazy plaything called a Noumu.”
= “Something like meaning / sense [in this situation]...... don’t ask / look for it, DJ.”
= “There is only malice / malevolence in [him, this / that].”
Japanese pronouns can be dropped when they are implied by context. Because Kurogiri’s face is highlighted as this line is spoken, I am assuming the omitted pronoun would be “him (referring to AFO, with Kurogiri as proof of his evil)” or “this / that.”
= “... I don’t understand!”
= “He’s sleeping now [because] he tried to use his Quirk.”
= “Why [are] we [here]?”
= “Were you hoping for a ‘miracle through the bonds of friendship’...? You’ve been watching too many popular movies.”
= “If there is a basis, then a ‘miracle’ becomes a ‘possibility.’”
根拠 can mean “foundation,” which I think could also work here. Gran Torino is saying that the close bond between Aizawa, Present Mic, and Shirakumo gives the Heroes as good a chance as any to connect with their former ally (and acquire that all-important information on the League of Villains that they previously mentioned they had been unable to pry out of Kurogiri; strategy, people!).
Tumblr media
= “[According to] the report, the Noumu that Endeavor defeated / killed in Kyuushuu had a distinct personality.”
= “It had a fixation with the strong.”
I hate the word “obsessed / obsession” and reeeeallllyyyy hate how often it is used by Caleb and some fan translators to describe the Villains. Horikoshi sometimes uses it or synonyms, but other people use it or similar words more frequently than he does and it’s almost always to make the Villains sound “insane” and hurt their credibility as victims of Hero society testifying to its ills. It’s so much easier to disregard their legitimate grievances with Hero society when we convince ourselves that they’re just a bunch of “uncaring, selfish lunatics” with a “grudge” who are “acting out” and “throwing tantrums” because they “didn’t get their way.” The Heroes peddle that narrative and would love nothing more than for everyone to believe it. Don’t. Those with power and authority do not hesitate to continue abusing their victims and making new ones. Very few people whose privileged position in the world’s social hierarchy affords them rights and luxuries marginalized and oppressed others are wholeheartedly denied would willingly surrender their status and influence for the sake of leveling the playing field to create equity. That being said, 執着 (romaji: shuuchaku) does mean “obsession; fixation; attachment; adhesion; tenacity; clinging (e.g., to old customs).”
= “The results of a DNA analysis of the burnt corpse revealed that [the base for] that thing’s body [came from, belonged to] a thug / hoodlum / miscreant whose livelihood came from underground cage fighting.”
These lines from Gran Torino are loaded with scathing judgment, a core belief that people who make a living by nontraditional means like underground cage fighting are criminal and lesser, or altogether worthless (Mirko???). He addresses the Noumu as “that thing” (あれ, romaji: are, usually used for objects, NOT people; EXTREMELY derogatory and dehumanizing when used for a person as it implies the speaker views them as more of a thing than a person), despite knowing the Noumu are alive (and so able to be killed), have human corpses as their bases, and retain aspects of their original personalities. He is simultaneously acknowledging that the High-End Noumu Endeavor killed in Kyuushuu had a personality the Heroes were able to match to a missing person and objectifying the Noumu AND that person by calling them “that thing.”
I’ll probably offend a few people by saying this, but oh well. In No.81, Dabi affectionately calls a Noumu with eight arms and several chainsaws, a high-powered drill, and a hammer built into its body “Neko-chan (Kitty-chan),” as if it’s cute and endearing, as if he were cooing at a kitten, not a “monster” or “thing.”
In No.350, Dabi expresses disgust with Ujiko and AFO for disrespecting the dead to bioengineer the Noumu.
Why has Dabi, a Villain, shown more respect and compassion for the Noumu than any of the Heroes or police ever have?
= “The personality [of the corpse] while [they were] alive remains...?”
= “It’s unfortunate, but I fought [him] at UA.”
= “His voice and manner of speaking were different [from Shirakumo], and he didn’t have any reaction to me.”
= “That might be due to their experiments... altering / falsifying, or erasing, [his] memories so that [he will] obey orders......... or something like that.”
= “Like [we, Gran Torino] said, getting this guy / thing to talk could be a great development for us / could give us a huge lead.”
Tsukauchi’s reference to Kurogiri (こいつ, romaji: koitsu, informal, implies contempt) is also condescending. Like are, koitsu can be used for objects, which makes using it and related words for a person a bit problematic. It is impolite but is sometimes used in anime and manga between familiars, especially among male friends.
Here, Tsukauchi is speaking with his colleagues about someone else (Kurogiri). He is not disrespecting his colleagues by speaking like this, but he is disrespecting Kurogiri by using こいつ for him.
Why did the Heroes and police ask Aizawa and Present Mic to meet them? The answer is simple and has now been stated by both Gran Torino and Tsukauchi: They are hoping to exploit their friendship with Shirakumo to use Kurogiri for information that will assist them in taking down the League of Villains. Again, they’re strategizing. They’re assessing the value of the pieces on their side of the board to inform their next moves. This is how war works. Both sides do this. Take AFO, for example. He has determined that Spinner, who had negligible value early in the game, has become a high value piece, while Touya and Himiko, who had great value early in the game, have become less valuable in the final stretch, hence his telling Spinner that it was “all right” to abandon Himiko because all that mattered is that Tomura’s body and Spinner successfully escape and his rather targeted remark to Touya comparing the individuals AFO forsakes and discards to a “cheap lighter that has lost its usefulness / stopped working,” knowing damn well that Touya was cast aside like so by his own family members and that one of the kanji making up his name (燈, romaji: tou) literally refers to a gentle light or flame, like that from a lantern... or lighter. War isn’t pretty, so let’s not (try to) pretty it up.
= “Present Mic. Eraserhead.”
Notice that Tsukauchi addresses Yamada and Aizawa by their Hero names. He is calling on them to fulfill their duty as Heroes by confronting all that is left of their deceased friend and classmate (and their complex grief over losing him to a sudden, violent death) on the off chance that they will be able to derive worthwhile information from him.
Tumblr media
= “I / we want you to awaken / evoke / recall his [former] attachments.”
呼び覚まして is the te-form of the verb 呼び覚ます (romaji: yobisamasu), meaning “to wake up (someone, by calling out); to awaken; to bring back (e.g., memories); to evoke; to recall.”
Tsukauchi is instructing Aizawa and Yamada to remind Kurogiri of his past life as Oboro Shirakumo and appeal to the emotional bond the three of them had during his lifetime. His hope is that their doing so will jog Shirakumo’s memory, allowing the Heroes to communicate with him.
In the official translation Tsukauchi tells Yamada and Aizawa to “try to awaken any attachments [Shirakumo might still have to his old life],” but he is more direct in Japanese. Horikoshi’s Tsukauchi doesn’t ask Yamada and Aizawa to try to reach through to Shirakumo. He simply says “I want you to do it” and waits for them to deliver on his request.
= “[You’re] even [asking us] to reminisce on childhood memories!?”
Present Mic has every right to be upset. He and Aizawa had their daily routines interrupted just to be devastated by the shocking news that their dead friend’s corpse had been stolen, tampered with, and used as the building blocks for a sadistic science experiment; were informed that their dead friend’s likeness might live on in that sadistic science experiment; were pressured by their superiors to sit across from that sadistic science experiment and have a conversation with him because the possibility that the “power of friendship” might summon their dead friend’s spirit from beyond the grave to feed the Heroes and police intel (at Yamada and Aizawa’s expense) is just too good to pass up; and as if all of that wasn’t enough to make today the Worst Day Ever for Yamada and Aizawa, now they’re being expected to revisit memories made painful by the traumatic loss of a loved one for someone else’s benefit WITH AN AUDIENCE! This isn’t for them or for Shirakumo. This is for Hero society. But for Yamada and Aizawa, it just hurts. It’s cruel.
= “I am / we are imploring you [to do it].”
頼む (romaji: tanomu) is a transitive verb that usually means “to request; to beg; to ask” but can also mean “to entrust.” As a colloquialism, it translates to “please; please do.”
よ (romaji: yo) is a particle that can be used in a variety of ways. At sentence-end, like it is here, it can indicate certainty, emphasis, contempt, a request, warning, etc. Ending a request or suggestion with よ carries the nuance of sounding pushy, even demanding, and could have nagging overtones. It implies a suspicion or awareness that the listener / recipient does not share your perspective and is opposed to doing something you are in favor of doing.
Tsukauchi knows that Yamada and Aizawa are uncomfortable and do not want to be doing this, but he is pressing them to do as he asks anyway. (Please don’t pressure people to do anything they are not comfortable doing. The absence of “no” ≠ “yes.” If it’s not an enthusiastic “yes,” it’s a “no,” period. “No” is a complete sentence, even when it is only implied by weak protests or silence.)
= “This isn’t his bereaved family’s burden / responsibility?”
Present Mic is desperately trying to escape this stressful situation.
Aizawa was doing more of that earlier on when he was snapping at the driver of the car and making a point to inform Tsukauchi and Gran Torino that he had sacrificed instruction time for this. At this point, though, he’s resigned himself to appeasing his superiors, but his hardened expression and defensiveness betray how anxious he really is.
= “If you two can’t do it——...”
They’ll flip Shirakumo’s surviving relatives’ lives upside down again with all these horrific revelations. Yes, yes, the fate of Hero society—of “the world”—might depend on this, but can we at least acknowledge how unkind it is to these people—Shirakumo’s friends and family, the people who actually knew and cared about him—to be bothered with this? Retraumatized by it? To have their lives upended and their relationships with him exploited? A world full of individuals matters because individuals matter. People matter. All of them. Every. single. one.
Tumblr media
= “[Then you will] burden his parents [with] such a disgusting story [about their child]?”
You might have noticed that Aizawa’s sentence did not end in a “?” and so appeared to be declarative rather than interrogative. Why did I frame my translation of it as a question? か is a marker of the unknown and commonly used at sentence-end in place of a question mark. Tsukauchi’s last sentence trailed off partly because he hesitated and partly because Aizawa interrupted his emotional pause by activating Erasure. Intuiting where he was going with it, Aizawa cut him off, having relented to doing as he had been directed for the sake of sparing Shirakumo’s parents any further heartache and discomfort. Aizawa uses sonkeigo (honorific or respectful) language to refer to Shirakumo’s parents (親御さん, romaji: oyago-san), as is customary when speaking of or to someone’s parents, including your own. Still, it’s nice of him to consider their feelings and want to protect them. It also shows maturity that he can (implicitly) acknowledge that although this situation is incredibly difficult for him as Shirakumo’s friend, it would probably be even harder for his parents.
= Zzt...
ツ is katakana, isn’t a word, and doesn’t mean anything. It’s a sound. The hiragana equivalent is the smaller っ. At the end of a word it can indicate a glottal stop, an abrupt, dry, constricted noise in your throat, where your glottis is located, that kind of sounds like your voice suddenly giving out, dropping your volume down to a whisper or less. Here, it seems to be an onomatopoeia for the staticky hiss generated by the radio as Kurogiri stirs.
= “[He is] waking up.”
= “[Didn’t we] last meet during the attack on UA...? [What] a curious / unusual visitor [I have].”
Present Mic was right. Kurogiri doesn’t talk like a 17-year-old. He speaks too formally to sound like anything but a posh butler and/or nanny for an exceptionally wealthy family. He’s like Tomura’s own Alfred Pennyworth or Jarvis.
Tumblr media
= Even with Eraser staring [at him], the haze isn’t dissipating.
= [It’s] like they said, the body itself was intricately bioengineered [to be] like this now.
Notice the on-the-verge-of-tears wrinkle in Yamada’s chin, the dark bags under his eyes, and the exasperated sweat drop running down the side of his face. Poor man’s going through it.
= “See!? I knew you were wrong [about him]! This guy and Shirakumo are nothing alike / have nothing in common—...”
= “How is Tomura Shigaraki? Is he well / in good health? Has he been captured / arrested?”
= “We don’t know!”
= “I see... How disappointing / unfortunate / vexing / regretful.”
I included all of these potential meanings for 残念 (romaji: zannen) because I imagine that all of them are applicable. For Kurogiri, not knowing if Tomura is safe is disappointing and unfortunate (because the Heroes are unable—actually unwilling—to update him), vexing (because it’s frustrating not knowing and not being free to return to his side), and something he deeply regrets (because he was programmed to protect and caretake for Tomura Shigaraki but has not been able to do so for some time).
残念 can also mean “sad; shame; pity,” so both the official (“What a shame”) and fan (“What a pity”) translations’ versions of this line accurately reflect the Japanese. If only that were always the case!
= “You’re worried about Shigaraki?”
気になる (romaji: kininaru) means “to weigh on one’s mind; to bother one; to worry about; to be concerned about; to care about; to feel uneasy; to be anxious.” It can also mean “to be interested (in); to be curious (about); to wonder (about).”
The reason I mention these other definitions is to underscore how apprehensive and on edge Kurogiri is being separated from Tomura and not knowing how he is faring. It is also worth noting that Aizawa is able to recognize and empathize with him (because he frets about his students). Kurogiri’s genuine concern for Tomura’s safety and well-being humanizes both of them to a Hero who might (not does, but could) actually care enough to do something about it: Aizawa. This is a rare moment of connection between a Hero and a Villain. Their function on their respective sides is the same. They provide their wards with protection, guidance, and support along their journeys. They care for them. They lose sleep over them. In that way, Kurogiri and Aizawa are like two sides of the same coin: back to back and facing in opposite directions but more alike than they are different (at least in this!).
= “Yes. Helping / looking after / attending to him is my mission.”
= “Looking after [that damned brat] is a shitty mission!”
= “What a bothersome mission, [being forced] to take care of such a chronically melancholy / gloomy / miserable brat......”
Present Mic uses several words to describe Tomura in this sentence. The first of these words is 陰気 (“gloomy; dismal; miserable; melancholy”), together with くせ (“habit (usually a bad one); tendency; peculiarity; idiosyncrasy; mannerism; quirk”) and ガキンチョ (“brat; kid; urchin; little devil”). He also characterizes caretaking for Tomura as “bothersome; tiresome; a bother to do.”
The implication seems to be that Yamada believes Tomura’s frequent choleric and morose demeanor is the result of poor character or (bad) habit rather than a symptom of complex trauma and severe mental illness, or the cause makes no difference to him because [he imagines] the result (= Tomura’s sullenness) is a pain in the ass to have to deal with either way, which is an insensitive and unkind attitude to have toward people living with mental illness. Present Mic has no way of knowing Tomura’s background, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a Hero to have more sympathy and compassion for people with obvious mental health struggles—for people in general, really. It costs nothing to be kind. Shouldn’t Heroes be kind?
Tumblr media
= “It is not painful / bothersome / unpleasant for me [to do it] as it is not in my nature to abandon [others].”
= “Even when I walked past... the kitten without picking it up, you were the kind of guy who didn’t hesitate to pick it up / take it in.”
The kitten is either climbing Shirakumo’s body to perch on his shoulder or has slipped from it, as indicated by the two motion lines at its back and nervous sweat drops flying off his little head. Shirakumo is saying, “Hang in thereeee!”
Tumblr media
= “I’m afraid I don’t understand what you’re saying. What are you doing you here?” or “I’m afraid I don’t understand what you’re saying. Why are you here?”
= “No reaction.”
= “I was always hesitating and half-hearted / taking half-steps...”
Interesting. Shouto says the same thing about himself in No.352 after Touya accuses him of ungratefully half-assing his way through the life Touya would have given anything to have returned to him, which Shouto unabashedly confirms he is guilty of doing (I say unabashedly because as of No.352, Shouto has accepted who he is, defined his identity on his own terms, reconciled his troubled past with the bright future he envisions for himself, and made peace with both of his parents to the degree he is able to, concluding his arc).
= ‘Shouta Aizawa, right? I’m Shirakumo! Pleased to meet you, Shouta!’
= ‘Shouta! The cafeteria is going to be filled up / all the seats are going to be taken!’
= “[Even though] I was like that...”
= ‘I’ll lend you my goggles, so you can approach [Villains] while protecting your eyes!’
= ‘We match!’
= “... [you] always pulled me along.”
This is also reminiscent of Shouto’s internal monologue in No.352 about how he always felt he was lagging but his classmates in 1-A “never left anyone behind” and always gave him a place to belong and feel unconditionally supported.
Tumblr media
= “Have you mistaken this place for a church confessional or something?”
= “You were always cheerful, only looking forward without thinking about the consequences...!”
= “Even though death is the absolute end for you / it’s all over when you’re dead...!”
Obviously, Aizawa is thinking about Shirakumo here, but given that he follows this line up by sharing that he has strict rules for his students intended to prevent another tragedy like the one that took Shirakumo’s life, I think it’s fair to assume he means that death is the absolute end for everyone, so everyone should take care not to be careless with their lives.
= “Yamada and I are teachers now.”
= “I’m strict with my students.”
Tumblr media
= “I hear that the number of [students] he expels is obscene.”
= “On paper it is.”
= “Hey, just now... [did you see] Eraser’s terrifying expression when he walked out?”
= “Doesn’t he always look terrifying?”
= “No, it was more disagreeable / unpleasant than usual, like that time he expelled us.”
= “So, it wasn’t as bad as then.”
= “I still have nightmares [about it]... I thought it was ‘over’!”
= “But thanks to that, we were able to grow.”
“Oh, come on! There isn’t [a better way] to give someone a sense of caution!? Expulsion!”
= “Thanks to that, everyone in 2-A has flawed / stained personal histories / resumes / records!?”
= “E-cRAZ-er Head!!”
I tried my best with that, y’all. Aizawa’s former student is making a pun out of the pronunciation of Eraser (イレイザー, romaji: Ireizā) and “crazy” (クレイジー, romaji: kureijī), which sound similar in Japanese. I tried to mirror the puntastic effect in English by translating the first half of the line, where the pun falls, as “E-cRAZ-er.” Try reading that aloud. E-raz-er. E-craz-er. They sound alike, right?
= “[You are requesting to be granted] the authority to expel and reenroll [your students]?”
Tumblr media
= “Yes———... self-sacrifice and throwing away one’s life are not synonymous. Young people confuse the two.”
= “I’ll give them just as they desire—a ‘death’ of sorts.”
= “That will also [encourage them] to work hard to improve even more / reach even greater heights.”
= “Well, the selling point of UA is its flexible learning culture / customs...”
= “[I want] for you...... for people like you to become Heroes who can pull others along... and live long lives.”
I haven’t been active in the BNHA fandom for anywhere near as long as I know some of you have. I’d never seen an episode or read a chapter of BNHA until a little over a year ago and I only ventured into the fandom some months ago on Twitter. I’ve been reading meta and translation posts on Tumblr for a bit longer than that, but I’ve never been brave enough to participate in extended discussions and the like, which I hardly think is Tumblr’s strength or purpose anyway. I’ve noticed a tendency among fans to assume that characters mean literally everyone—civilians, Heroes, and criminals/Villains—when they say “everyone” or something along those lines. If you’re familiar with my Twitter posts (hi!), you’ve probably picked up that I’m not in favor of that assumption and err on the side of “everyone” being a substitute for “people like [me]” until we have clear evidence (actions, not words) that a character truly means everyone when they say “everyone,” no exclusions or weightless arbitrary exceptions (that are quickly withdrawn, if they were ever sincere to begin with) for people they decide they like because they remind them of themselves (Hawks) or people they happen to share blood with (Endeavor).
In this case, Aizawa is saying “people like you (Shirakumo),” so to understand who it is he wants to “become Heroes who can pull others along... and live long lives,” we need to consider the lines before and after this one (for context) and ask, “What kind of person is Shirakumo?” We know that he is a person who cannot abandon others and cannot ignore anyone in need of help, human or furry friend. We know that he had a sunny disposition and optimistic outlook that was a source of comfort and inspiration for others. We also know that he was a student of Hero Academia and hoped to become a Pro Hero. So, who is it that Aizawa wants to “become Heroes... and live long lives”? Students of Hero Academia. This is not “I want everyone to be happy and die from old age warm in bed.” It’s “I want people like us to be happy and die from old age warm in bed.” There’s a difference, and it’s an important one because it speaks to Aizawa’s values, motivations, and worldview. We should be asking the same questions of every character.
Tumblr media
= “Shirakumo, if you’re still in there, you can still be(come)... a Hero! Three people!” or “You can still be(come)... a Hero! The three of us [together]!”
That last sentence is a reference to two lines Shirakumo had spoken just before being killed by a collapsing building : “I believe the three of us could solve [any problem]!” and 3人で事務所を建てよう : “Let’s build an office / agency for three people!”). 3人 means “three people.”
Tumblr media
This concludes Part I. Part II can be found here: https://at.tumblr.com/antiquity1111/bnha-253-255-kurogiri-aizawa-japanese-to-english/el63fj8fakj8.

Chapter 18: Surpassing Sorrow
How long had it been since Gremio stopped speaking?
It was impossible to tell how much time passed while they sat in the dark, stagnant passage leading to the dungeons, intently waiting for help.
Only once did one of the guards come to the first of the two doors. They heard him open it and his voice rose in a shriek that was abruptly cut off.
The spores must have spread out into the passage and devoured him and all the other guards.
Luckily there was a storehouse one floor down that held a stock of emergency rations and candles. They could hold out for a little while.
But after a time, those too dwindled to almost nothing.
Sigh…
Sitting in the silence and the dark, one of them sighed.
How many times had Tir heard that sound?
How many times had he sighed?
Violent spasms of pain shot through the back of his right hand but he paid them no heed. His first priority was finding a way out.
Tir couldn’t believe that Gremio was dead.
p161
He didn’t want to believe.
So he desperately hunted for a way to escape.
But it didn’t matter how he racked his brains or how closely he searched every nook and cranny of the dungeon by the light of the candle—no escape route was forthcoming.
He sighed deeply.
Viktor said in a voice meant to soothe. “If ya run around like that, you’ll just waste all yer energy. Looks like the guard got done in by those damn spores too, so nothin’ we can do now but just sit tight.”
“Yeah… guess you’re right…”
“There’s no way anybody is gonna wander into this prison in the middle of nowhere… never mind come all the way down this dark passageway and just happen to pull that lever on the wall,” Flik muttered dejectedly.
“I’m sure we’ll manage somehow, though…” Tir replied automatically, his voice somber.
“Master Liukan, this prison doesn’t have air vents or anything like that, does it? Maybe we could get out that way…”
囚人に少しでも希望を持たせるような設備は、ないと言っていじゃろう」 “I don’t know, lad, but I suppose it doesn’t,” croaked Liukan hoarsely. “Soniere was built expressly to prevent any kind of escape—to stop prisoners from having even a shred of hope.”
“I see…”
In the darkness, Tir sighed again.

Ep. 10's blog post
This blog post, with Hori's second entrance, is dated 15th June 2021. Spoilers below, as always!
Notes before we begin:
For those of you who didn't check out ep. 9's blog post, see tweet 2 on that for more info about one of the characters of the day.
Due to the unintended delay on this post, I've tried to translate more completely than usual and that caused the release of this post to be postponed by another day...Sorry. Even still, consult the actual post for proper placement of emojis, coloured text etc.
This time, just for efficiency's sake, I skipped a lot of the honorifics because Hori refers to Takara, Tina and Tsumahara as -san. I've only left it in for "Balle-san" (a one-off) and when other people refer to Hori as "Hori-san" (as opposed to when Hori calls himself "Hori" with no honorific).
Also, an advance note that you'll probably want to cry when Hori pulls out the crying kaomoji. (I wanted to cry at two points when he did, at least.)
CR translations were used where I could chase them up.
Post title:

[T/N: バリバリのバリ (baribari no bari) has some obvious repetition in Japanese, so I had to try convey that in English as well, even though small!Takara is more "working hard" than "vigorous". The final "bari" is a Hakata dialect thing - we already know Hori is from Fukuoka, so that fits. I had to translate the title because this phrase appears later on.]
Everyone, thank you for taking care of me. Fairy
I am called Akihiro Hori, who voices Takara Utashiro in Fairy Ranmaru ~We Will Help Your Heart~.
Also known as "Potato Digging Hori", please kindly take care of me today. [T/N: "Potato digging" = jagaimo hori, so "potato digging Hori" = jagaimo hori Hori. It also makes reference to the ep. where the kids dug up potatoes.]
Episode 10, "Hedonism", was passionate, wasn't it?!!!
This time was Takara's second focus episode. Although we see [elements] that recur from the original story [ep. 5], the impressions we are able to enjoy are subjective and so I will write with fervour.
We START by opening the curtain on the queen team's private talk!! [T/N: "Queen team" = Queen + Houjou (+ sloth).]
The Queen is pestering Takara about Sirius.
Leader...whose lines are fugashi!!!! [T/N: Fugashi are a type of Japanese sweet. There are sweet potato fugashi, so I assume this is either a typo or a pun on a similar word. If it's a pun, the word is likely to be おかしい (strange, suspicious, unbecoming).] [T/N 2: The line below suggests "leader" (zachou) = Ranmaru, so this sentence would be referring to Sakata.]
However, while the stream was happening, I couldn't imagine this, but...to tell the truth, the way I usually speak to everyone is like Takara's non-committal way of speaking to the Queen, so when everyone saw this scene, the leader [Sakata] went, "That's Hori-san," and Kusano went, "That's Hori-san, isn't it?" without saying anything and so everyone laughed.
After the call was cut, we learn how important Takara's father is in the fairy world from Houjou and the Queen's conversation.
While proving worthy of Houjou's kind confidence, Takara is asking a girl out somewhere... [T/N: The source text, as you can see when you pause the ep. at the right time, is meant to say "[at sign]yako", but the at sign was tripping the "mention a user" function in Tumblr, so I had to swap it out with a lowercase A where it appears in this post.]
His partner's name is "ayako", which I thought was an amusing name.
This is read "Ayako", isn't it?!!! (a-ha moment)
Also, we got to see him, the very vigorous sho-Takara!!!! (human form) [T/N: Literally "we got to see him" was "[he] came", LOL.] [T/N 2: Sho-Takara = shota (prepubescent boy) + Takara.]
There was an uproar in the comments that he's excessively cute.
The relationship between the lawyer, who's appeared before this flashback scene, and Takara is also made clear.
The lawyer was also from the fairy world and had a strong relationship with Takara's father.
What sort of way of living in the human world did the very young Takara learn from the lawyer...?
The half-naked and wounded sho-Takara, looking out the window and whispering, "Someday, surely..." [gives off a] heroic feeling. [T/N: I couldn't use the CR quote for this because that's translated more in context, as just "someday".]
Takara's fake Kansai accent is acquired from the lawyer's.
Also, when we think we've returned to the present, a kitten jumps into the flame! [T/N: This translation builds off the CR version of the line, "Like a kitten to the flame!"]
This time's client, Tina, appears!! 「
"Oh, please! That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!"
Takara, at that time, couldn't help but send her flying from the beginning and it was difficult for me because I was trying not to laugh - there was "tsubo" in my lines.
Even after [Takara was] as smooth as ever and [handed] over the business card, she refused with "Take me to the man I love most!" [T/N: The word for "smooth" here is literally "smart", but "smart" doesn't seem to have the right connotations.] …
...apparently, this time's client seems very straightforward.
"Hedonism" *ring ring ring*
Takara brought Tina to her child and, without a pause, brought those two to [Tina's] workplace. 。。
At the workplace, everyone comforted Tina's child and Tina's colleagues had confidence in her dance, so I admired, without thinking, how good of a workplace it was...
Then the husband, Tsumahara, appeared!!!!! (Barbarian!!) [T/N: There is no confirmed reading of this name, so it might be "Tsumabara".]
He's equivalent to last time's (Uruu's episode's) Kyuji...but [Kyuji] overwhelmingly compares favourably to that guy...!!
Not only does he demand money without seeing his child's face, but he also goes as far as taking Tina's one good coat...!!
The fact he looks a little apologetic as he receives it is just...!!
Despite this, Tina must try her hardest to make money...for her "family". (′
Those word aren't just for her family...uwaaaaa!!!
In the next cut, Tsumahara pushes the money he received into gambling.
This is the time Takara is popular. He says, "Dearie? I think you're on." He calms down and gives up as if he never saw anything, but even still, after he returned [from seeing her exchange with Tsumahara] with a nuance of "he saw what he did not want to see", he would joke gently, "Aren't I cool for doing this sort of thing?" and poke fun at himself.
This subtlety is a technique popular with adults...!!
Any men watching should certainly take in this [advice]...yeah, everyone?!!
Please train me [in the art of love] for another 10 years.
Yes, at the same time, there's curry at Bar F today too.
The conclusion last time was intense...! I'm sure everyone had a sleepless night wondering what happened after that development.
Homura, who's casually giving water to Uruu,
Uruu, who worries about Homura,
Homura, who blushes while responding,
Ranmaru, Juka and Bakkun, who seem happy.
They're excessively precious and I was prostrating myself, thanking them...thanks, precious!!!! [T/N: Hori slurs several of his words in this sentence, typically てぇてぇ = toutoi (precious/noble), 平身低頭 = heishin teitou (prostrating oneself) and ありがてぇ = arigatou (thank you). He then combines てぇてぇ and ありがてぇ, hence "precious".]
Then, in the meantime, Takara was out, as always, begging for kisses and teasing a woman.
In a voice that can barely be heard, he mumbles, "I don't know what I want..."
This line is very important in terms of later developments...
In the comments, there was a person who wrote, "I don't know what (curry) I want..." - please say who you are, I won't be mad *veins snap* Aパートおしまい!

Tetsuei [Sumiya]: "Nice pole dance...(dance dance)" (nice voice echo) B
To the B part!!
The curtain opens on Tina, who starts with a sparkling pole dance!!
The child, who's on the lap of and [now] accustomed to Takara.
The child's cry of "Mama~!" was cute, wasn't it?
Of course, Tina will try hard for his sake, for the family's sake.
From his own background, we can see how much he values the existence of his family. 5
From episode 5's Takara episode, the client, Emu, also worked assiduously for her family, so this time's Tina also...
In order for Takara to revive the Metallum Clan, for Takara's sake, Takara's mother even gave over her own food and it is precisely because of that that she became a victim of trying hard for the sake of her family and that's why Takara has such complicated emotions, is it not?
Moreover, this time, this time's "family" is unjust...
Also, also!!!!!
Thanks for waiting! Thanks for fulfilling the bath quota!!
At this time, the comment that came about was "Everyone's holding straws!!" and so there was uproarious laughter. [T/N: It's not clear if there's just one person laughing or many, hence the intentional vagueness.]
However, this time's bath [scene] is amazingly serious...not (Sirius). [T/N: Hori inserts Sirius's name at the end of the sentence as a pun on "serious", so if it seemed like the translation said "serious, not serious", I did my job.]
After we gaze at everyone's faces, we go to a flashback scene where [Takara is] given his directive from Houjou.
In that it's to the point it's kept a secret from the Queen...Takara makes curry for everyone everyday while burdened with those heavy things, huh?
However, until now, every day everyone's eaten their curry, gone to the bath, gathered attachment and spent their days [together].
As family, when spending time together and looking around at everyone's faces, Takara's face is full of affection.
At this time, there is the line: "The fun times never last, do they?"
Not only Takara, but I personally realised F-Ran's final episode is near and so, while I'm bad at putting this into words, [emotions] welled up inside me.
Then, it becomes clear Tsumahara has a different family.
Tina starts a conversation with Tsumahara.
Already, the Tsumahara from this [point in] time's true worth is basically scum!!!
Tina is really, really unfortunate... 「
"So, you're abandoning me too!!"
Aren't you the same, even though it's from a different perspective...?
Without much remorse, Tina has no choice as she's left collapsed on the rubbish bags and Tsumahara laughs.
Then, the fairies appear...!! 「
"Lovely lady, might I walk you home?"
Really, that's going to rank in the top 5 lines that all of humanity wants to be said to them...!!
Takara listens to the story of Tina, who's always carrying a child seat around with her.
"I knew...some part of me knew he was just using me."
"But when he reached into his pocket, I honestly thought it might be a ring." 「
"I wanted to create a happy family, full of smiles..."
These lines are too sorrowful...
I, at first, clenched my fists without thinking at these lines.
However, this time, I felt sincerely affectionate for this cobbled-together group.
I received the direction that I should convey to Tina, "Hard work will be rewarded!"
This scene's dialogue is in Takara's own words and I had to try repeatedly to convey his thoughts on it.
After "Could I take your heart?", the scene changes and...it's transformation time---!!!!!
Without thinking, I was charmed by [Takara's] muscles and wanted to call out, "Nice bulk!"
The physical beauty of his body and fists filled the screen, he broke the ground and called out his name.
His coolness has broken through the critical point and sublimated itself into beauty!!!!!!!
Tsumahara, even after he had that conversation with Tina, happily spends his days gambling, arousing his spirit as he says, "What do dreams and love matter?"
Balle-san, I'll borrow a technique of yours...!!
Stop screwing around!!!!! [T/N: reference to Balle-san's ep. 9 post]
Then the enka begins - it was in ep. 5 as well but the lyrics are linked to this episode and I was immersed in the beauty of the visuals for a moment.
I want you to hurry and listen to the full version!!!! Everyone, please listen to HEAVEN'S DOOR! There's "Payment of Love" of course, but if you listen to everyone's full enka, you'll [be able to make] links with the story and it will hit you in the feels!!!
After the enka ends, the door opens to this time's Heaven's Room, which is a Japanese-style world quite like that on a folding screen.
Then, enemies that look like the well-known thunder god and a thunder god's imitation appear. [T/N: referring to Raijin]
It happens every time, but these Heaven's Rooms are really ingenious...there should've been a hugely nerve-wracking battle scene, but without thinking, my spirit was unintentionally aroused...!!!
What? This time Tina and her child are both behind the keyhole!
I never thought I'd see the day where a charming voice would be mixed in with the "What? I got it!" quota.
Also, in the other keyhole is Tsumahara's heinous voice... 「
"A person can't conquer their hedonistic tendencies! The pleasures of drinking! Smoking! Sex! Drugs! And gambling especially!!" [T/N: Hori censors the word "sex" by "stuttering" over the final syllable but CR doesn't, so I've sided with the latter.]
"The leader put it clearly at the time--!!!" I remember joking.
However, that is a mad world where the power of words is beyond the realm of stories.
With those urging words, the enemies send bubbles of alcohol and then from the other side comes a tobacco smoke attack.
At this time, when the direction, "Groan and pretend you have a __ kg weight on you!!" was given, as I shouted, it was like a corresponding load was being added. The next day my muscles hurt.
Takara's able to hold out somehow, but then an illusion of Takara's mother appears with the words, "Well, what will you do?"
Last time, Uruu's mother and Homura's father appeared, so surely this time Takara's mother...
Furthermore, to see his not-so-skinny mother in this form...!
This is the attack that's given with that gentle voice.
Takara is being held down and strangled [by his mother's illusion].
Coupled with the sexiness of the dialogue at this point, it's as if the two are connected...
Furthermore, as if pressing for answers, Takara's mother uses her mouth to pour liquid into Takara's mouth, from a glass with a cherry in it.
Is Takara, who's about to scream and faint in agony, [being subjected to] metaphors for hedonism Tsumahara was mentioning earlier?
Also, Sirius appears.
Stop doing the Su___zanmai pose!!! [T/N: referring to the dude who stands with his hands outstretched from Sushizanmai]
However, this time I couldn't help but nod and say, "Indeed..."
Why do we sacrifice so much for a fleeting moment of pleasure?
Rather, it's because it's momentary that we chase it and seek it out? (philosophising)
Even in agony, Takara eagerly bears it [and says], "This isn't what I want."
However, in addition to that, the illusion becomes fat [with the words], "What you want is the full-bodied love of your mother!"
As the tag on Nico Nico said, it is true that all the hedonistic elements being pressed are heavy, far too heavy,
Takara is about to have the life choked out of him, but he comes to his senses and pushes the illusion away.
However, that was the last of his strength and so he's not able to move...!
This was the moment...I thought it was the end!!!!!
With a shout, Homura, who's the best and heroic, comes and protects Takara from attack!!
Similarly, Ranmaru and Uruu bring down the thunder gods and, with his tongue stuck out and his lollipop, Juka yells, "On ayus valta!" to heal Takara.
This was the most intensssssssssssssse [moment]!!!!!
This is the first time they've [run to Takara's aid and] fought as a family when Takara was in a pinch!!!
When reading the script, I was exhilarated to the point of going, "Finally, they came!" and now that this scene is recorded, I strongly remember the moment Kohsuke [Tanabe] valiantly can be heard going, "Haaaaaaaaaaa!!" I got goosebumps from the passion.
Trustworthy Ranmaru and Uruu, and Juka healing Takara by calling out his name.
With trustworthy friends like these, you won't lose!!!!
After this is the flying scene, the moon-breaking scene and I was able to use my heightened [emotions] to the fullest! [T/N: Hori calls his heightened emotions "voltage".] そしてGO TO HEAVEN!!!!!
Then, GO TO HEAVEN!!!!! 「
Tsumahara, for some reason, said, "I'm broke again?!" as he's finished off while playing everything he has with an all-in due to his leftover momentum. [T/N: the all-in in poker] ティナさんの「寶さん、あなたと結ばれたかった…」
Tina: "Takara...I wish we could've been together."
The client has this kind of pure affection [for him]...Takara's also a wrongdoer, isn't he?
However, that can't be granted, since Tina understanding him is now past tense, isn't it...?
In this one heartrending scene, too, another Hori whispers to me, "You and Yutaka Balletta ..." but it's already no good (currently 4 in the morning)
Everything's wrapped up so everyone calls out to Takara.
What the hell, everyone, damn, really, you guys... (′
Yet, Uruu goes, "We're family, in case you've forgotten." That means Homura and everyone are 'family', huh...?
Takara returns that with a single word full of emotions: "Thank you."
Takara, what you really want is certainly...
Then, from behind Ranmaru, Chilka, who was watching him out of the corner of his eye...
As opposed to [when] he said he loved Ranmaru in the past, he leaves as he [yells], "Go to hell!!" …
Why did this Japanese translation come up? This left a disquieting atmosphere. [T/N: Hori translates "Go to hell!" (ENG) as "Fall into hell!" (JPN).]
Houjou: "They've become a fine family indeed."
I was happy with this one brief comment.
In episode 1, he says, "From now on, you are family," leaving the 5 of them bewildered, but now they can yell about how they're "family Ranmaru".
No, not "family Ranmaru"?! Is this a pretty mistake from Yamamoto (foreshadowing)?! (LOL) [T/N: This is referring to Bakkun's VA Kazutomi Yamamoto. Also, yes, it does say "pretty mistake", but it's likely to be "printing mistake".]
In that [part], the Queen once again demands rigid adherence of the 10 Laws.

Don't miss the next episode of Fairy Ranmaru ~We Will Help Your Heart~, "Hatred"!! That's it for my impressions on Taboo No. 10, "Hedonism".
Thanks for keeping me company [as I write] these long sentences!!
As a side note, usually the main cast would record together, but this time, I was alone in the booth, listening to the voices of those who recorded before as I added my lines.
When I finished recording and opened the booth, I looked at the rest area, thinking no one was there. Surprisingly, everyone from 5 to HEAVEN was there, watching over a video display. They turned to me and said things like, "Good work, Hori-san!" and "You're so sweaty!" so I laughed while I talked.
In that moment, the scene where Takara says, "Thank you," played again in my head and although I was [in a state of] confusion, I was happy. I will surely not forget that moment.
Yes, I'm done with my side note!
To continue the conversation, use #F蘭丸 on your real-time impressions, fanart, photos etc., which will give a real feeling to your excitement.
Also, when I see those, I become so happy, I grasp my phone tightly.
As always, really, thank you for supporting F-Ran. Everyone's voices will be my strength!

Nakajima Atsushi, Osamu Dazai and Sky, who had been searching for clues to find their way back to their original world are atop the roof of a certain skyscraper, looking down at the streets below. What's reflecting in their eyes under the calm, relaxing blue skies? Is it the breath-taking scenery of Daten; or is it…?
That which is reflected in their eyes under the calm, relaxing blue skies...
*Spoiler free: Translations will remain under cut
The clear blue sky is reflected on the glass panes of the towering building.
Nakajima Atsushi: What a breath-taking scene this is! I've never had the chance to take a look at the streets below so peacefully like this till now..
Sky: The view from up here's pretty good. Fireworks will start from that area over there whenever it's the festive period, ya know?
Atsushi placed his hands on the edges of the building, eyes gleaming as he turned his attention to where Sky had pointed out.
Dazai Osamu: Fireworks, huh. Flowers that bloom in the sky. They must be a pretty sight from this high up.
Sky: You bet! There are even special light-ups when it comes down to that! It's such a pity that I can't show that to you now, though...
Atsushi and Dazai, both people who had suddenly turned up in the Dream World without rhyme or reason.
Sky was helping them both find leads on ways to return back to their original world while guiding them around the city.
Sky: I can't say for sure that the streets in this place are safe, but it isn't all too bad when you look at it from this height.
Nakajima Atsushi: Yeah, it's like something straight out from a book.
Dazai Osamu: Up we go.
The ends of Dazai's coat fluttered in the air as he sat on the edge of the building.
Dazai Osamu: The weather's great, the view's brilliant and the height of this place is the best I could ever ask for.
Sky: But I'll have to say, the world you guys came from sounds loads better than this pla- ...Wha-

Dazai Osamu: I want to shine for a split second before disappearing into smoke, just like how dreamy fireworks are!
Nakajima Atsushi: What if there are people below!?
Nakajima Atsushi: What's your motto in life again!?

Sky: In any case, I really wouldn't appreciate the face of someone I've gone to get food together with turning up on the news headlines!
They were both out of breath as they hauled Dazai back up to the roof by his cloak and arm.
Dazai Osamu: Really now, you don't have to be that mad...There are some things out there in the world that you cannot experience if you're comfortable with only looking on from a safe place.

Sky froze for a moment as the weight of Dazai's words sank in.
Nakajima Atsushi: Sky-san…?
Dazai Osamu: ...I'm aware that there's nothing we can do; but there are things one should come to realize and understand. Precisely so if one's an outsider.
Sky: Dazai...
Dazai watched with kind eyes as Sky's own wavered with uncertainty.
Dazai Osamu: Now, as for what I'm trying to say...

Blue Lions Translation Chapter 2
I’m still doing this guys. Things just got a bit hectic for me, but it’s cleared up for now.
Going forward, I am going to rely on the Datamine website a lot, so I’ll be using screenshots from it as well. Having the portraits next to it should help put things more in context as well.
Again, I gotta mention that things are tight for me financially, so if anyone can spare anything, I kindly direct you toward my Ko-Fi Page.
Anyway, without further ado, let’s continue:
My comments in italics
Scene 1 Discussing the Fugitive Bandits
Tumblr media
Seteth: Anyway, as has been discusses before, this time your task is the suppression of bandits.
Seteth: For students currently studying battle only as theory, experiencing actual combat will prove a valuable experience.
Seteth: Of course, the suppression will be handled under the guidance of the Knights of Seiros. The battle ought to further prepare the students.
Seteth: That being said, this is no mock battle. Be prepared to face an appropriate amount of danger.
Seteth: Wait to receive a message from the knights and then depart. Until then do not be carelss in your preparations. That is all.
Tumblr media
Dimitri: This will be our first real battle. We are counting on you, Professor.
[Choose: Same to you] or [Choose: I am worried]
Dimitri: During the mock battle, your commands were precise. With you there, professor, we should be able to handle the suppression well.
Dimitri: There still seems to be some time before our departure. Right now, we have to do whatever we can to prepare.
Exploration
Dimitri
Tumblr media
Dimitri: Seems we have been entrusted to suppress a group of bandits just after enrolling at the academy.
Dimitri: ... Hearing about the objective makes it sound all well and good, but it will mean fighting to survive. It's the same as war.
Dimitri Even with the support of the Knights of Seiros, we must brace ourselves.
The next section isn’t in the Datamine. Or at least not in the part I checked, so I got the script from elsewhere.
Dimitri: Is there anything about spending time at the monastery or battle that you wish to hear about?
[Choose: Faculty Training]
Dimitri: Just as the professors instruct us students, they also offer guidance to each other. ▼ If you are interested, you should accept instructions from Professor Hanneman or Professor Manuela. ▼
[Choose: Scouting]
Dimitri: Though a student's affliation with their house is decided by their country of origin, each of them have their own strengths and interests. ▼ Meaning that if a student so wishes, while having their professor's permission, they can be allowed to transfer to another class. ▼ This might come up should you spend more time with students during monastery activities.
Back to better business
Dedue

Dedue: It would be best not to get close to me.
Dedue: ..Associating with someone from Duscur might lead to rumours and the like.

Tumblr media
Felix: Me and that boar prince have been inseparable since birth... no, even before that.
Felix: That's why I am warning you. ... That guy harbours a beast in his heart.
Felix: You can trust in his skill and animal strength, but you cannot put your faith in this man as a human being.
Felix: You need to be careful, so you don’t end up getting gobbled up as well.
Ashe
(Speech Bubble: Becoming an adult like that...)
Tumblr media
Ashe: It is all thanks to my adoptive father, Lord Lonato, that a commoner like me was able to enroll at the monastery.
Ashe: He is strict yet kind, the very model of a knight... I like to think I'll be just like him someday.
Sylvain
Tumblr media
Sylvain: So our first mission is about taking down some bandits, I see. Makes you think just how Lady Rhea values human life, right?
Sylvain: For example, there's my estranged older brother. That guy lost himself to bandits...
Sylvain:  is something that could have happened at some point. Ahaha, well, I was joking though.
Mercedes
(Speech bubble: This place is so calming~)

Annette: Ahaha, just like me! I'll be sure to remember it!
Tumblr media
[Choose: Spicy Food]
Annette: Spicy food... you really are an adult, professor! I'll be sure to remember it!
Ingrid
Tumblr media
Ingrid: Me, Felix and Sylvain are childhood friends. His Highness too.
Ingrid:  ... Felix and Sylvain are the worst kind of problem children. Please be careful with them.
The exact phrasing she uses is “Problem children among problem children” xD
Ingrid: Since I can remember, the second I take my eyes off of them, they're off to goddess knows where doing whatever they please.... haah..
The First Real Battle – Blue Lions
Tumblr media
Dimitri: Professor, just now a message from the Knights came in. They have managed to gather up the bandits.
Ingrid: They seem to have cornered them just as planned. The location is the Red Valley, Zanado.
Ashe: We mustn't let such immoral bandits escape. Let's all work together and do our best!
Dedue: ... Whatever enemies we face, they will not lay a single finger on His Highness.
Felix: What a pain... We are facing simple bandits. I doubt any of them will pose a challenge.
Sylvain: Don't talk about it so indifferently. I am actually excited. I mean, hey, there could be a pretty girl among those bandits.
Tumblr media
Annette: ... At any rate, this a great opportunity to see how we perform in a real battle.
Mercedes: That's true. We already did well in the mock battle, so if we act like before, we should be fine.

Dimitri: Is that so? ... That might be the case for you, professor.
Dimitri: To tell the truth, I am a bit jealous of you. My parents are gone after all.
[Choose: What do you mean?] or [Choose: They are gone?]
Dimitri: They died. Both of them. ... I was the only one to be left alive.
Dimitri: ... I am sorry for talking about something so dull. Let us depart now, Professor!
[Byleth nods]
Before the Battle
Tumblr media
Dimitri: The Red Valley... This is the first time I've come here. I can see some kind of ruins, but...
Dimitri: ... No matter, let's begin, Professor. The bandits must have already been driven into the valley.
Tumblr media
Kostas: ... Damn! It's the knights? I can't believe I let myself get chased this far.
Bandit: Boss, let's make a break for it already! There is no way we can win against them!
Kostas: ... You goddamn moron, where are we gonna run at this point? How can you call yourself a bandit when you’re scared to die?
The bandits have a pretty rude way of speaking, but I am not about to embarass myself by repeating it in English. They sound like thugs, okay?
1st Turn
Tumblr media
Dimitri: According to our information, there is a short cut along the west side. How about we split into groups, heading both west and forward?
Dimitri: If we move correctly, I think we should gain the advantage in the fight with a pincer attack...
Dimitri: I will of course leave you to decide our movements, Professor. Either way, first we have to cross this bridge.
First time killing an enemy
Tumblr media
Dimitri: No matter if they were bandits, this is something I can never get used to.
Dedue: ... I hope His Highness is all right.
Felix: You guys aren't worth killing. What, finished already?
Sylvain: Well, it couldn't be helped. Don't hate me for this.
Ashe: Had we hesitated, we'd be dead. ... So this is what a battle is like.
Tumblr media
Mercedes: May you at least find rest at the goddess' side...
Annette: Thank goodness, I managed somehow.... Even I can fight... !
Ingrid: I mustn't drop my guard here. I have to prepare for the next enemy...!
Kostas vs. Dimitri
Tumblr media
Kostas: You sheltered noble brat! You better shut up and die this time!
Dimitri: Unfortunately, I cannot do that. ... You will regret your actions.
Winning the Battle
Tumblr media
Dimitri: We successfully dealt with the bandits. From here, we should listen to the knight's orders.
Dimitri: You did well, Professor. ... Your commands were excellent.
After Battle
During Sothis’ Memories
Tumblr media
Dimitri: Professor? It's about time we returned to the monastery. The others have already assembled.
After the First Mission
Tumblr media
Dimitri: We've finally arrived. Professor, I'll entrust you with reporting to Lady Rhea.
[Byleth nods]
Dimitri: .......... Over there, is that... Edelgard?
Tumblr media
[Edelgard and Manuela appear]
Dimitri: Are the Black Eagles headed for their first mission? You can never tell what is going to happen in a real fight.
Dimitri: Even the worst case might happen. Take care of yourself, Edelgard.
Edelgard: No need to tell me. I wonder why you insist on worrying so much about me.
Edelgard: Could it be you are looking down on me? If so, I am disappointed in you.
Dimitri: ... That is not what I meant. If I offended you, I apologize.
Edelgard: ... Well, no matter. Professor, everyone is waiting. Let us go.
[Edelgard leaves]
Tumblr media
Manuela: Oh my... Anyway, I shall be off as well. No need to worry, Dimitri.
[Manuela leaves]
Dimitri: .......
[Choose: Why are you so worried?] Instantly skips to the end
Tumblr media
[Choose: Are you in love...?]
Dimitri: Haha, no way. Looks like even you can tell a joke sometimes, Professor.
[Continuing]
Dimitri: I will explain the circumstances later. ... Later, okay?

Up Up Girls (2) - Happeace LOVE Lyrics
youtube
LOVE♡ Happeace LOVE♡
Lyrics & Composition: PandaBoY
Kanji lyrics below cut. I copied them from the CD jacket but the spoken part in the interlude wasn’t included so I copied it by ear.
This is one of my favorite music videos by them, by the way.
Happeace LOVE♡ Someday, we’ll be alone together Happeace LOVE♡ I’m wishing for it on that star Even though I can tell you “I love you” in my dreams I can’t close the gap between us
I’m spinning my wheels today too Earlier we made eye contact But I got embarrassed and pretended I wasn’t looking Calm down, take a deep breath This time for sure, I’ll look your way And you were looking at me, smiling
I don’t know what happens in the next part, even if I look it up What should I do…!?
Happeace LOVE♡
Someday, we’ll be alone together Happeace LOVE♡ Before I knew it, I fell in love Neither an adult nor a child My heart is light and fluffy Hold it tightly Happeace LOVE♡
My chances keep coming and going Instead of waiting for a miracle, I’ll make it a match And search for the perfect timing “What are you doing Sunday?” Wait a second!? Who’d have thought you’d ask me out first…!? I’ve got butterflies and my heart is pounding hard♡
I freaked out and accidentally sent a weird stamp… What should I do…!?
Happeace LOVE♡
Surely, it’ll be just us Happeace LOVE♡ I wonder what kind of clothes you like Neither an adult nor a child My heart is light and fluffy Hold it tightly Happeace LOVE♡
“Sunday...can’t it come faster?” Yeah!! “Can I call you today?” Yeah!! “This is the first time I’ve liked someone so much” Yeah!! “Are you really alright with me?” Yeah!! “Oh geez oh geez ohgeezOHJEEZ!” Yeah!!
I wonder why I like you so much
I wish you’d notice it “Are you happy?”
Happeace LOVE♡ We’ll be together forever Happeace LOVE♡ Let’s make our dreams come true Neither an adult nor a child My heart is light and fluffy Hold it tightly Happeace LOVE♡
Original Lyrics /
