I can’t even count the number of times I’ve heard or read “If you want to be respected, respect yourself first. Cover up. Don’t let just anyone have access to you.” And every time I hear it or read it on a random post I want to scream.
this isn’t just advice. This is a subtle form of control. It's a deeply ingrained message society keeps telling women that our value lies in how modest, unavailable, or pure we appear. It’s the same tired logic that tells girls to sit properly while letting boys run wild, that asks women what they were wearing when they’re harassed, and that says, “Well, what did she expect?” when a woman embraces her sexuality publicly.
I’ve noticed in certain spaces where a woman’s body isn’t hers so much as it is a symbol of family honor, religious purity, or social acceptability. From aunties whispering about someone’s outfit to influencers preaching “modesty equals self-respect,” the message is clear, respectability is earned by how invisible or inaccessible you can make yourself.
And I scream literally scream when I see someone agrees with one of those polished little quotes: “Cover up so others will respect you.” And what do you know? Hundreds of likes. A sea of agreement. The worst part? So often, it’s other women agreeing, applauding, sharing like it’s gospel truth.
I cringe. Because it’s painful to watch women become gatekeepers of their own oppression.
I want to yell at them, that self-respect has nothing to do with how many layers of clothing you wear or how many people you’ve slept with. And it definitely has nothing to do with whether someone else chooses to respect you.
Why is it always women who are told to prove they’re worthy of basic decency? A man can have sex with dozens of women and he’s praised.
A woman does the same and she “has no self-respect.” No one stops to question what kind of backwards culture we’ve created, where a man’s freedom is normalized and a woman’s is dehumanized, demonized even.
men aren’t being held to any of these same standards. No one's telling them to “cover up,” to protect their “purity,” or to prove they have “self-respect.” In fact, most of the time, they’re not even expected to respect themselves.
Because let’s be honest, a lot of men don’t respect themselves. They don’t believe they have self-control, or maybe they’ve never been taught to develop it. So instead, they outsource it. They hand the burden over to the rest of us especially women and expect us to manage their urges, their insecurities, and their egos by shrinking ourselves, covering ourselves, and making sure they’re not “tempted.”
when you need to control the actions of other people to manage your own feelings and self-esteem, you are a loser. And frankly, that’s a lot of men. Angry losers who don't want to do the inner work, so they lash out at women for existing freely.
Dress in conservative? You’re labeled boring. A prude. A woman with no taste, no sexuality, no presence. You’re invisible, and somehow, still disrespected. Dress in revealing clothing? Now you’re a whore. A woman with no self-worth, just begging for attention. Once again disrespected.
The impossible tightrope women are expected to walk, where you're either too much or not enough. Pure or impure. Saint or slut. There’s no version of you that’s allowed to just be a person without being reduced to how sexually available or unavailable you appear to be.
At the root of all this is a toxic, transactional view of women’s bodies, a kind of objectification and commodification that strips women of agency and turns our sexuality into a bargaining chip.
To these men, a woman’s body isn’t hers, it’s something that should be given to a man. Saved. Protected like property. That’s why the concept of “virginity” still exist. That’s why “body count” is still talked about, as if a woman’s worth decreases with each consensual experience she has.
Because in their minds, the value of a woman is tied to how “untouched” she is. If she shows her body? She’s “spoiling” it. If she enjoys sex? She’s “giving it away for free.” There’s no room in their worldview for women to exist as full, sexual beings with autonomy and choice. To them, we’re either a prize to be earned or a possession that's been “used up.”
That same mindset is exactly why some sick people have the audacity to blame victims of rape for what they were wearing. Because in their warped logic, if clothing is seen as an invitation if it made someone feel aroused then the woman must have meant for it to happen. As if our choices exist only in relation to their desires. As if arousal justifies violence.
Toxic masculinity teaches them that their worth is tied to on their ability to attract women, have sex with them. The more women a man “gets,” the higher his rank among other men. But if a woman has freely chosen multiple partners? She’s “easy” and suddenly, that “achievement” doesn’t count anymore. Because it was her choice. Because it wasn’t about him.
So when I say I want to scream every time I hear someone say, “Cover up if you want to be respected,” know that it’s not just about the clothes. It’s about how women are policed, shamed, and punished for expressing desire, for wearing the “wrong” thing, for existing too loudly or too freely.

Thinking about how Bruce and Jean Paul have an undeniable father-son relationship but it will never be labeled as such because both refuse to see it that way. Bruce is not Jean Paul’s father, Ludovic died in front of him. Jean Paul is not Bruce’s son, he is just a lost young man Bruce works with. But Jean Paul has such a desperate need for Bruce’s guidance, his love, his approval. He needs Bruce in the way a confused boy needs a father.
Bruce feels responsible for Jean Paul, he says time and time again that he had Jean Paul and is responsible for him. He goes through loops and hurdles to help Jean Paul, even going as far as to disguise himself and transport Jean Paul across the world personally just to ensure he got there safely because Jean Paul didn’t have the system. Jean Paul will do almost anything he asks, even if it directly goes against what Jean Paul wants (i.e. No Man’s Land when he tries to give up violence but keeps doing missions for Bruce).
He met Bruce right after his father died, Bruce gave him direction, helped shape his morality. He reveres Bruce, looks up to him in ways he doesn’t any other character. When Jean Paul is accused of murder, his first concern is Bruce’s reaction. He literally hallucinates Ludovic referring to Bruce as his “false father.” He needs Bruce, and Bruce wants to help him, but ultimately only forces his own lifestyle onto him. He wants to guide and shape Jean Paul but they keep each other at this odd emotional distance, completely unaware of the significance they have in the each others’ lives.

does anyone ever feel a little disappointed sometimes by the witchcraft content we have, across all platforms? like there are so few people actually posting unique or interesting things, it feels to me like 95% of witch posts are the same 5 beginner concepts, tutorials, and psas over and over again. tumblr is definitely where ive found the most amount of unique posters who give insight into their own unique practices and theories or make actually good witchy shitposts, but still, how many posts about “how to make moon water” or whatever do we need…? i mean it is GREAT if you ever wanna look up beginner stuff, but its gotten so repetitive.
its also sooooo annoying how fake most of these posts are, or offensive, like “take this quiz to find out your spirit animal!” or “how to figure out if youre a born witch” or any other problematic clickbaity thing. also there so many aesthetic posts in the witchy tags everywhere, and tbf i do love witchy aesthetic things, but even then if you look closer so many of those posts are ai (FUCK ai) or the same 30 pinterest photos over and over again… theres also just a lot of spam and bots and people trying to sell you stuff in witchy spaces, which is annoying too 💔

Sergio Leone really loves to write his characters in subtle ways. I think really well shown with how the trio is named. Tuco is the only one who actually uses his real name, even the complete version at times. He doesn't hide his identity like Blondie nor does he let his work persona overtake him like Angel Eyes. It certainly makes him feel more authentic, and most importantly, more human, which is a theme surrounding his character. He isn't ashamed of his origins and who he is, which sure it can be a bad thing due to what he's done, but I think it adds to his character, and makes key scenes like the confrontation with his brother all the more emotional and poignant (especially specific lines in that scene, like when he said he had no option to 'opt out' like his brother did, and enforces the suggestion that his brother makes that their parents actually quite liked Tuco; itd thereby follow-up that Tuco has pride in his origins and thereby the names given by his parents. Perhaps they only had a strained relationship due to poverty? Or do I just want to find more socialist ideals in media I like??). And all that messaging is conveyed just through his name!
I think smth similar can be said with Blondie and Angel Eyes, just as a contrast. Which makes sense because they're meant to be more mysterious and supernatural. But the naming of these characters is also quite smart. Blondie is a name given by Tuco, which makes their partnership all the more intimate, especially since Blondie is only 'Blondie' when he's with Tuco. But ofc that indicates he didn't start out as Blondie, so despite the intimacy there's also a sense of mystery. Angel Eyes most likely got his name from his job since that's what outsiders, and people that hire him, call him by. It really goes to suggest how as mentioned above, Angel Eyes most likely stopped blurring the lines between his real persona and work persona. Which adds imo adds to the eerie vibe he has going on. Idk, there's a certain type of horror to a guy who doesn't let himself have no limits to what he's willing to do, to the point that it fundamentally changes him as a person. Which is shown by his actions, and supported by his choice of name.
Hopefully I made sense, idk how else to describe it. Unique names that tell a story aren't uncommon in fiction, but I think the naming choices in GBU are particularly interesting, and indicate what the character and their arcs will end up like.
There's definitely more that can be said (ie, Angel Eyes being called 'Angel' Eyes despite unambiguously representing a darker side of morality, how his alternative name Senteza also adds onto the "force of nature" theme Angel Eyes has going on, how it makes him seem less "bad" and more "neutral" in the sense that he's only acting how people deserve to be treated, and how that alt name can even be stretched to have divine meaning as God is often known as a "judge" that will bring judgment to mankind in the future, etc etc etc) but this is already far too long and it was meant to be a quick post
What's the tldr?....... its that I keep finding more and more reasons to have Leone as one of my fav directors. Will anyone ever cook as hard as he did?

being agender is so weird sometimes. I just don't quite fit in any gender norms and that's okay, I don't mind! but I still think that people perceive me different from how I perceive myself (duh).
irl I'm very feminine presenting while still using he/him most of the time, but I also don't have any issues with switching to she/her for school and such. when I talk about myself/my self-inserts I prefer they/them, even though this is my least liked pronoun. I also like it/its but not in a 'thing' way and more in a third secret option. I don't use neos just because I'm not sure if I like how they sound, but I won't even get offended (and probably will be even glad) if anyone used them for me. ofc pronouns don't showcase how anyone perceives their own being, but this is more to the topic of this just not mattering much to me.
and while all this IS present in my day to day life, I still manage to feel outside of any gender at all. I didn't even have dysphoria (or rarely. I don't really like these periods of time) and never doubted it much. ofc, everything may change in the future, but I kinda just knew that I'm not a boy nor am I nby and never struggled with figuring it out. strange!

Topics Ive been thinking on expanding, more as a motivation to learn more
people treat poverty as a crime rather than a social condition requiring systemic solutions, rather than rehabilitating individuals or addressing the problem, the system perpetuates poverty and inequality.
The system doesn’t fix the problem of poverty; it profits from its existence, turning suffering into a business
Inequality isn’t an accident; it’s a feature of a system that rewards privilege while punishing the marginalized.
The real measure of a society’s progress is how well it addresses the needs of its most vulnerable members.
The most profound form of oppression is the one that convinces you that the world is just the way it’s supposed to be.
the wealthy and powerful use the law to maintain their position while oppressing the lower classes. the system was design for anyone but the rich
Intersectional feminism & the modern feminism today only cares about one type of women
Vertical mortality vs horizontal morality
Capitalism is a system that thrives on inequality, where a small elite controls the majority of resources, and the working class, especially people of color, are kept in a subordinate position.

People be like “seeing gene and dr.x as family dynamic is stupid because they treat each other like shit” like yes dog I know THATS THE POINT. They don't like each other yes they are toxic as hell yes and that does NOT prevents from seeing them as a family at all. Family dynamics are not always unicorns and rainbows AND THAT WHATS INTERESTING ABOUT THEM
Even the "they hate each other" argument can be disproved because yes maybe in the fisrt season but they are more of "neutral" in the second season. Character development ig
I don't even see them as biological family so. whatever. I know it's probably sounds delusional asf but like JUST LISTEN YALL MISSING OUT ON PEAK im not ok

@edennill and others, asking for your help, because I just realized I don't really have any human fave (actual human, not a half-elf) I mean I do like Amandil, but I'm not that interested in him, and I do have a ton of elf faves and that's kinda biased.
I don't think it's healthy to have faves only in the most powerful groups, I need some balance.
Recommend me some Men, with an explanation why they're cool? (Preferably from Slim, may be LotR, but Aragorn is too mainstream 🤣 and Faramir idk, I know they're both awesome but they're not my jam)
Thank you.

Do you think if Edward (2022) had at least one friend in his life he would’ve turned out better
I talk about mental health, self-admitting into mental health facilities, and general heavy financial-struggles-relating-to-mental-health-struggles things ahead so if those topics are upsetting, I'd avoid!!!
I know I say this a lot but this is a Tough question. I'm leaning towards no, he needed more than a sympathetic ear and supportive friend to fix the issues he was struggling with. He needed RESOURCES. Ofc we must be hesitant when diagnosing fictional characters with Specific disorders that we aren't 100% sure they have, but it's safe to say he struggles with mental health severely and needed Frequent psychiatric care in the state we see him in the Movie. BARE MINIMUM I think if all that was different was Edward had the ability to self-admit into a GOOD AND ETHICAL mental health facility when he was having his especially severe episodes without repercussions for missing work, he would've been better off. These things are about piles, and how many things get added onto the piles. Don't have time to see a psychiatrist, and even if he did, too expensive. Even if he could see the psychiatrist, medication is also expensive, and it's WORSE to start medication, actually start to feel better, and then have to "skip" doses when you're low on money because then you're just causing your body more chemical turmoil. He would NEVER self-admit in Gotham. I don't even think if he left Gotham, he would immediately feel safe self-admitting into ANY medical facility. I don't think he sees Doctors. This is someone who isn't just sad and needs a buddy, he needs a LOT of assistance.
Would Edward have needed these resources forever? I don't think so, I think much of what he was struggling with could have and still can be processed in a healthy manner that leads to him living a less distressing life. For the sake of the question, I'm imagining we're talking about like, Issue One of Riddler: Year One to give him the best chance in his adult life, and I just don't know if a friend or even group of friends would have been able to help him unless they also provided financial assistance, which I'm just not entirely sure he'd take because he'd see it as like - some Cosmically Insulting Levels of Pity that his friends, who would likely be poorer Gothamites as well, would feel the need to fund his medical care.

it has always baffled me that ASL isn't taught as a second language in American schooling. or as a requirement for certain jobs that work with, well, people. the HLAA says that around 48 million Americans have hearing loss!! 1 in 5 teenagers!! 1 in 3 people over the age of 60!!! it's crazy to me that sign isn't more widely taught and used considering that you probably DO or WILL know someone who has hearing loss at some point in their life

the bf and i are like 11 seasons deep into it’s always sunny in philadelphia and i genuinely don’t understand where people get the queerbating narrative when it comes to macdennis. like yeah, sure, from what ive heard it’s never canon, and its not…particularly mutual, i suppose? but it’s also…
we’re supposed to think that. we’re supposed to know for sure that mac is gay, and at least think that he’s at least a little gay for dennis. it’s not that the show teases at it but never makes it canon just out of spite. it’s…implied within the show, because it’s funny. that’s not “queerbaiting”. that’s not bait. that is, in fact, the joke. the joke is that they’re gay! and it being a joke also doesn’t necessarily stop it from being something that’s just Happened in the show.
and maybe, maybe it is BY DEFINITION queerbaiting, but don’t even pretend it gets anywhere near bbc sherlock levels, because that’s not even a fair fight. it doesn’t clear bbc sherlock by a damn mile. yeah, sure, they just “hint” at it, but…c’mon. it’s not queerbaiting! we must draw a line in the sand!
they pretended to be gay lovers. the scene in the bar with mac getting dennis drunk. many such cases. that’s not subtext. that’s just text. is it supposed to be taken seriously? for the love of god, no. but queerbaiting? weak. travel back in time to consume all the shows we REALLY liked on this hellsite 5-10 years ago and i’ll show you REAL queerbaiting. let me introduce you to a little something called vol-

the MCU really has done irreparable damage to how people view the Punisher bcs wdym ppl are DEFENDING HIM or acting like “he’s actually right” lmfao. I blame this on the fact that the Netflix Punisher Writing Room tried way too hard to make Frank sympathetic, even when they really Shouldn’t Have. it’s to the point where frank’s actions aren’t really of his own will, but are a reaction to all the Wrongs That Have Been Done Against him bcs Frank is a good guy and wouldn’t commit heinous crimes against humanity if he didn’t have a reason to do so. like, it’s giving Nathan Edmondson Punisher.
At the end of the day MCU Frank is just a different version of Frank so it’s not like it really matters but i think much of the reasoning behind the re appropriation of the skull by alt right dickheads has much to do with how Frank’s character has been sanitised and toned down for the ~general audience~ and how he’s been made out to be a “sympathetic figure” in the name of profitability (just like how they erased matt’s chronic cheating problem, rampant misogyny and just overall meanness). and this isn’t to say that ppl are stupid and couldn’t handle a more fucked up Frank but like the writers clearly didn’t think that.
Like, wow, maybe Frank isn’t killing for the greater good or it’s right or he believes in it or because he’s a “hero” but bcs he’s an inherently violent person and he kills petty criminals bcs they’re easy targets and it makes him feel like he’s justified bcs “they made their choices they deserved to die🙄” like ok chris kyle? i guess i know why u were in the marines.
There’s a reason why writers put Frank in situations where he exclusively kills white ppl in positions of power bcs if you were to examine the implications of the Punisher and Franks horse ass philosophy they would be very unsavoury. They don’t wanna make him look TOO BAD (even though they should). it’s a fucking mcu show starring Copaganda advocate Jon Bernthal so ofc they’re not gonna be like “oh by the way a disproportionate amount of ppl who end up in prison are black” “ppl who do crime come from poor backgrounds and are products of a system that favours the rich” and turning Frank into a minority hunter isn’t gonna fucking happen, but then they end up stretching his thesis into “he hunts ppl who deserve it, and who haven’t faced the consequences of their actions, and he always goes after ppl in positions of power and they’re always white so he’s not racist!!!!!!”
they tried so hard to make Frank unproblematic they turned him into Frank “Always Right, Always Justified, All the Time” Castle which is hilarious. changing his background so that he only kills the ppl who have wronged him/were involved in his family’s hit and making it look like the only reason Frank became the Punisher was to get revenge is such a fucking joke. what he does is unjustifiable and is wholly based on emotion (or lack thereof). the only reason why he’s able to do what he does is because he’s insane, and nobody else can do what he does.
Tumblr media
also also ALSO him being reluctant to “embrace” the Punisher being some sort of ~ emotionally groundbreaking~ character arc for him is horseshit as well, because he would not hesitate for a second. if he had the chance to murder without a family/morals holding him back? of fucking course he would take it. Violence is in his DNA.
Tumblr media
“people need the punisher.” frank. buddy. nobody needs the punisher. you just made that up as a reason to keep killing ppl. literally the only reason frank can do what he does is because HE. IS. NOT. HUMAN. so stop trying to make him out to be! he doesn’t give a single fuck abt his dead family!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he even admits it!!! he can’t even say that it’s for them!
the thing abt their deaths is that it freed him from the constraints of keeping up this normal image of being a normal guy, from suburbia. and since he had no one to pretend for anymore, then there was nothing holding him back.
“Oh, Frank actually doesn’t want to put on the Punisher skull he’s only doing it bcs he loves his family🥺” “He has to embrace being the punisher even though he doesn’t really want to🥺” “Frank was wronged by Agent Orange and the military and his best friend🥺” “Frank Castle is a Hero🥺” and other shit that straight up did not Exist all in the name of making Frank a victim and in favour of making Frank Castle a Great American Hero for us to empathise with. Frank only kills because he’s Sad Inside but he Really Wants to do The Right Thing and we All Should Feel Bad for Him is such stupid characterisation and just straight up untrue it’s just UGHHHHH. i’m over it.
Also this is completely petty on my part but why did tf give him a supporting cast?? Why does he have friends?? No he doesn’t? Since when? Why do they support his violent endeavours? TF. Frank killed all his friends, who are these people??
In another universe we could’ve gotten a Punisher Max-esque anthology TV series focusing on the various crime families/ppl that Frank decides to target and humanising them instead of making it all about Frank Castle but that’s never gonna happen lmao.
tl;dr
MCU Frank is the most overrated character of all time and we should kill him with pitchforks. i’m dead serious.

Also, on a completely different hot take of the day (I'm full of those today IG), I am ever so disappointed at mainstream media's take of a "weird girl" being just like, mildly quirky girl who is a bit too ditzy or a bit too loud but is still endearing and funny and popular and all. Save for Toph specifically in the cartoon version of Avatar: the Last Airbender, and Utena and Anthy in Revolutionary Girl Utena, I legit cannot think of another show or movie where the "weird girl" isn't just like, "uwu I'm so cute when I'm being a little dummy/tough" or "hehe sparkledogz funneh memeh rainbow stickers" type of girl. No I am not saying that I don't like these representations, like, Mabel Pines and Star Butterfly and the Sailor Senshi and so on are pretty cool but they're DEEPLY disappointing for me who grew up as a "weird girl" who was anything but endearing and funny and popular, and as a matter of fact was just considered a weirdo and bullied severely for being so weird and offputting to my classmates and beyond. I wish I could see more actually weird girls in media in general, girls who are not endearing in the way they are weird and offputting, who are not just "sparkle sparkle le random" types but who would bite off other people for pissing them off or overstepping their boundaries, who would throw tantrums and scream at others for being overwhelmed or upset, who have actually weird hobbies like insect keeping or bone collection or other things of the sort that would make others feel wigged out by them. I wish to see more weird girls.
#I guess that's partly why I'm so invested in my own comics#all of my girls are different degrees of weird some of them are just the overtly strict and borderline mean type others will literally bite#those who put their hands on them#I feel like even people who want to show a different vision of girlhood and womanhood beyond what the patriarchy seems as acceptable#quite often have little to no imagination as to how would a girl be different from the norm#once again I am not shitting on Mabel Pines-esque characters and by jove I LOVE Sailor Moon so much it was a foundational part of my#development in my teen years but like... I feel like part of my disconnection to femininity has always been about the fact that no#one likes talking about girls who ''don't behave girly enough'' aka are weird enough to make others be put off by them and yes I was#one of those no I didn't bite people that was my sister's flavor of weird I was the scream very loudly and overreact at anything and have#weird af hobbies and talk about weird af topics to others and not know how to properly socialize type of weird girl#basically I'm neurodivergent lmao I mean I am diagnosed ADHD but also with suspicion of being autistic so you get what do I mean#by how I was weird I was abrasive I was exaggerated I was a crybaby but also a screamer and also I was deeply socially inept#and that's not a thing you see EVER in media that features girls or that focus on the feminine public#that's my hottest take of the day we need more weird girls#personal rant#personal
