Loose cable connection destroys bridge?
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Office of Marine Safety released a report on the Dali bridge ‘allision’ (not a collision) that destroyed the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore MD USA. We all read with amazement at the destruction of this major bridge, which carries much East Coast auto and truck traffic between New York-Philadelphia and Washington DC. The cost to repair it is…

order in the court
Lukey is a tired lawyer. Pangi does crime for the hell of it. They meet as lawyer and client in the most ridiculous set of circumstances. What happens next may shock you.
Or: the pangkey lawyer crack fic
Read on AO3
Chapter 1: Lukey's Bad Day
Lukey was having a horrible day. He woke up 30 minutes past his alarm, the traffic to the office was horrible and he had a stack of documents at his desk when he actually reached the office.
He feels lucky that he was able to talk his way out of getting scolded (coffee bribery does wonders) but that did not help with the hours of careful reading, research, emailing and writing that he now has to do.
He picks up the first document of the paper stack, situated in a clean manila folder with a sticky note attached to the top of it. The note reads “UPDATE: CASE LAW FOR UNINTENTIONAL BIOWEAPON #46572726.”
Lukey simply sighs, shaking his head. He’s a lawyer, not a scientist. Why was he the one assigned to do research for the bioweapon case? What even is the legal classification of an organism?
Sitting down at his desk, he types in his password, mentally wishing to go home. He clicks on his case files folder and gets greeted by the blue screen of death.
“Okay, what the actual fuck,” Lukey whispers to himself, already dreading the IT conversation he will have to have. Dragging his hand across his face, he stands up, heading in the direction of IT.
---
After hours of IT troubleshooting, researching about the extent of if skulk can legally be defined as an organism that can have intent, and a surprise meeting about a sudden lack of public defenders at the ready, Lukey feels the urge to drown himself in a lake grow ever present.
(He would never, for the record. It is a well-known fact that he hates getting wet.)
Instead, Lukey decides to go to the nearby wine shop to do the other type of drowning - drowning in alcohol.
Getting into his white Chevy Impala, he drives the short 5-minute drive to the wine store, Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 blasting through his radio. He parks his car, heads straight to the wine aisle, pays for a single bottle of red wine with minimal small talk towards the cashier, and leaves the store. Wine bottle in hand, he steps out into the cool March air and gets greeted with chaos.
The first thing that Lukey registers is the faint smell of burnt sugar.
Then, it was the shouts and sirens coming from the grocery store across the street and the revving of engines nearby.
The visible scene before him finally clicks in his mind, with the leftmost display window of the store being smashed, glass shards littered around the sidewalk. People are pouring out of the store yelling, cursing and running after something that has just entered his view.
A minivan, run-down and painted in the most hideous pale green, that seems to be trying to u-turn on a two-way street 30 minutes into the hell that is rush hour. The driver, a man with the most obnoxious orange hair, wearing sunglasses of all things is driving the abomination.
The revving that he only faintly noticed reaches a higher pitch, and suddenly, with a jerk of the orange man’s arm, his own car, his white Chevy Impala, gets rear-ended by the back of the minivan.
The minivan’s driver yells out “Sorry!” as he somehow speeds away, the crowd of people chasing comedically behind.
Staring at his rear-ended car and the chaos and destruction that has occurred across the street, Lukey realizes two things: 1. He has to now talk with insurance sometime in the future cause his car just got fucking rammed, and 2. He now has to deal with the horrors of rush hour public transportation in the city.
Begrudgingly accepting his fate for the night, Lukey pops the wine bottle in his hands and drinks straight from it. He’s not driving tonight, so who cares anymore.
He begins dialling, mentally cursing whatever god has decided to curse him for simply existing in modern society.
Oh, and also the orange man with the minivan that hit his car. He needs to be thrown into hell.

Today we're gonna talk about Biarritz because it's been elected the best town in France 2025. And for a maximum of fun I've done this thing, I've put some numbers here and I'll say what they make me think of instinctively regarding Biarritz. And all of that without getting on my nerves! For example:
0 - it's the current number of Basques that live by the coast because the proliferation of AirBnB prevent us from living where we're born and we too want to live in the town, f*cking kospei*! Welp, that (the calmness) didn't last long. How do I make a joke out of this? Do you know what is a Basque in the coast? Well, me neither!
1 - it's the number of airports that there are in Biarritz to get the fuck out!
2 - It's the exact number of balls this classification of the best cities is breaking me right now. The issue with the publicity of publicity of towns, always publicity! Publicity for towns that don't need it. We no longer want that classification! I think that last year Baiona was second, Biarritz 3d, Angelu 4th, BAB [Baiona Angelu Biarritz area] in short. Well enough of games, enough! Today it begins the unmarketingsation of the Basque coast. Because, apparently, what makes the difference to be on the podium every time is that people here feel safe. But not for long. Ando is going to do something insane.
3 - it's the number of hours that you have to wait in your car until you find a parking spot in town. I needed to mention the traffic because it doesn't appear in the article, the traffic jams.
4 - it's the number of vlogs that we have weekly about Biarritz. Don't get me started! Hi it's Dodo, we're meeting for a little brunch with avocado toasts, total cozy with the besties! Come buy this coffee for 12€! Later we're gonna have a little run total good vibes by the promenade of the beach. Oh yes, there's nobody! The next time I see that, I'll set you car on fire. And if you don't have a car, I'll stuff your cat.
5 - it's the number of unoccupied houses in my street and there's 6 houses total. And when they arrive to their holiday home just in summer they don't say hello because people in the big cities don't introduce themselves to the neighbors. But in our land we introduce ourselves! The neighbor is important. And also we invite each other to have lunch, the whole neighborhood, they come home to have marmitako; but you, you order your shit on Uber Eat, and then you party on your own, and then when you leave you put your glass bottles in the yellow container! [which is for recycling plastic / paper] Who tf are you shitting! And my father always said: Jon, Andoni, lay the table! No, my father always said: the tourist demands and the traveler thanks. Food for thought, Jean-Gaël.
6 - it's the number of beaches in Biarritz for, how many people? Last year, 6M. Good ratio, right? One million per beach, nice! And I'm not gonna talk about the pollution this creates. Ah, if the sea could speak! Hello, Maider?
7 - and 7, as the 7 provinces of the Basque Country! More like 6 because we're losing Lapurdi. It's necessary to stop this marketingsation to stop this folklorisation, to stop this gentrification, to stop all these rhymes in -tion already! Fuck-us-ation!
*it's a word used in Iparralde to refer to the tourists that come from France just for the summer holidays. It comes from congées payées (paid holiday).

📁 TECHNICAL CASEFILE — QUANTUM FOLD DRIVE
Classification: Internal Engineering Reference — Level 4 Clearance
Issued by: Pan Galactic Commonwealth Bureau of Advanced Propulsion
Latest revision: 21 June 2442
⸻
▸ CONCEPTUAL OVERVIEW
The Quantum Fold Drive (QFD) is the backbone of intergalactic travel inside the Commonwealth’s six-galaxy sphere. A QFD shifts a vessel out of normal space (N-space) and into a neighbouring, unstable dimension called Quantum Space (Q-space). There, a fleeting quantum duplicate of the ship is conjured. Because two identical quantum states cannot coexist, the original vessel is violently expelled along a preset vector in an event known as the Primary Kick. The duplicate collapses a heartbeat later, feeding its residual energy back into the real hull and sustaining super-luminal momentum.
Movement in Q-space is achieved by repeating smaller, directional “micro-kicks,” each created by spawning and collapsing partial duplicates at specific hull quadrants. When the ship’s Q-space coordinates overlay the desired real-space destination, the drive reverses the phase wrap, unfolding the vessel back into N-space.
⸻
▸ FUNCTIONAL SEQUENCE
1. Charge and Phase-wrap – The drive builds a null-gravitic shell that decouples the hull from local spacetime constants.
2. Fold-in – The ship slips into Q-space.
3. Primary Kick – A full duplicate forms, repels, collapses, and imparts FTL velocity.
4. Momentum Management – Helm or navigation AI fires controlled micro-kicks for course changes, braking, or lateral translation.
5. Fold-out – When position and drift tolerance align, the drive re-synchronises the hull with N-space constants, bringing the vessel home.
6. Cooldown – Reactor heat bleed and drive-core resettling; the ship remains vulnerable until lattice pressures normalise.
⸻
▸ LIMITATIONS, DANGERS, AND FAILURE MODES
• Vector commitment is real. A Primary Kick locks a trajectory; excessive mid-course micro-kicks strain the momentum lattice and can shred containment fields.
• Energy appetite is colossal. Wild, unanchored folds drain reactors and require long charge windows.
• Quantum Stall leaves a vessel motionless inside Q-space; hull decoherence begins after roughly twenty-one minutes.
• Duplicate cascade (too many clones too fast) triggers hull overprint and total loss.
• Fold Shadows – every kick leaves a probabilistic wake traceable for more than an hour by deep-range quantum telescopes.
• Biological side-effects – hallucinations, memory bleed, identity resonance; repeated jumps are monitored for Neural Desync Syndrome.
• Echo Mutation – the rare, infamous return with altered or additional crew, cargo, or architecture. Any Echo case triggers instant quarantine and psychological audit.
⸻
▸ Q-POINTS AND QUANTUM ANCHORS
Although a QFD can fold anywhere, Quantum Anchors—also called Q-Points—dot heavily trafficked regions of space. Each beacon projects a localized phase resonance that weakens the veil between N-space and Q-space. Folding at a Q-Point slashes charge times, halves power draw, and all but eliminates severe temporal drift. Civilian liners, freight caravans, and most naval craft rely on these beacons for routine travel.
Q-Points, however, are double-edged:
• They log every fold event, making clandestine traffic impossible.
• Pirates lurk nearby, betting on predictable arrival vectors.
• Military blockades can lock down an entire sector by seizing or disabling its Q-Points.
For stealth insertions, black-ops flotillas, and emergency retreats, captains still attempt unanchored folds—raw jumps that leave no official trace but risk higher drift, longer charge windows, and catastrophic misfold.
“Using a Q-Point is like stepping through a doorway somebody else built. Folding raw is blowing your own hole in the wall and praying gravity’s on the other side.”
— Captain Cole, log entry EU-1179-04-22
⸻
▸ LEXICON OF THE FOLD
• Primary Kick / “the Boot” – the main FTL shove.
• Micro-kick / “nudge” – a low-energy course tweak.
• Ghost Wake – detectable fold shadow.
• Deadfloat – a Quantum Stall event.
• Haunted Cargo – euphemism for Echo Mutation aftermath.
• Walking the Quiet – superstitious phrase for time spent inside Q-space.
⸻
▸ OPERATIONAL SUMMARY
Quantum Fold Drives grant the Commonwealth its practical unity; without them, the Milky Way and Andromeda would remain centuries apart. Yet every jump is a gamble with physics: fold too often, too far, or too carelessly and the universe may send you back incomplete—or not at all.
“You negotiate with the Fold, not command it. It accepts barter in energy, risk, and a little piece of who you were before you went in.”
— Chief Engineer Yuville “Wyllie” Maeko, briefing to junior techs

This might be something you would have an opinion on:
A good train game?
Not *simulation* I know Train Simulator exists, but more the high level build a network, plan routes, upgrade engines over time, manage train composition etc.
I'm not super deep into that, to be honest, I haven't updated my trains in video games review website in well over a decade (and it's mostly broken now, I gotta fix some coding there one of these days).
But I can give you some weird answers:
Factorio is not a train game, but it has trains, and the later you go into it, the more trains become an important part of gameplay. Personal play styles will differ, of course, but I love to spend a lot of time tweaking the train network. That said, there's not a lot of depth to the train systems there. No real scheduling, route finding is fully automatic, you can't set up any truly complex stuff (no automatic shunting). For the record, I play with enemies off, except at the moment I don't play at all because Gleba seems too daunting (I'll get around to it one of these days).
I know a lot of people like Transport Tycoon Deluxe and its modern open-source reimplementation OpenTTD. I have never played it and so have no opinion on it.
If you want a really weird answer, "JB BAHN" or "Bahn.exe" is a German (English is also available) 2D rail simulation program that has an utterly bizarre hold on my mind. It's positively ancient, dating back to the 1990s, and older versions still required DOS. The UI still looks like Windows 3.1. The website still uses frames. The graphics aren't retro pixel art, they're genuine old pixel art, looking like someone took the style of a communist illustrated children's lexicon and reproduced it in MS Paintbrush (not Paint, that came later). It's objectively awful… and if I start playing it, I don't stop for thirty hours (average). Part of it is that it's very mechanical, you can spend a lot of time just redoing the same steps over and over. Part of it is the very intricate depth of its scheduling and shunting system. Want to build a classification yard? Want to build a station where the locomotive runs around its train? Want to build a station where the locomotive uncouples and another couples to the train to continue the journey? All possible, with the slight caveat that everything is a massive ordeal. I love this game. Don't play it.
Cities Skylines. The 1 version, not the 2, which I haven't played because it has no Mac version (neither does JB BAHN, I haven't played that in years). The railroad system simulation is entirely surface-level, incredibly janky, part of the traffic system that is even more janky in all its other parts, and there are a lot of obvious missing features, but hey, you can have some fun with it.
I don't think this is helpful but this is the best I got, sorry.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department on Thursday formally moved to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug, a historic shift in generations of U.S. drug policy.
A proposed rule sent to the federal register recognizes the medical uses of cannabis and acknowledges it has less potential for abuse than some of the nation’s most dangerous drugs. The plan approved by Attorney General Merrick Garland would not legalize marijuana outright for recreational use.
The Drug Enforcement Administration will next take public comment on the proposal in a potentially lengthy process. If approved, the rule would move marijuana away from its current classification as a Schedule I drug, alongside heroin and LSD. Pot would instead be a Schedule III substance, alongside ketamine and some anabolic steroids.
The move comes after a recommendation from the federal Health and Human Services Department, which launched a review of the drug’s status at the urging of President Joe Biden in 2022.
Biden also has moved to pardon thousands of people convicted federally of simple possession of marijuana and has called on governors and local leaders to take similar steps to erase convictions.
“This is monumental,” Biden said in a video statement, calling it an important move toward reversing longstanding inequities. “Far too many lives have been upended because of a failed approach to marijuana, and I’m committed to righting those wrongs. You have my word on it.”
The election year announcement could help Biden, a Democrat, boost flagging support, particularly among younger voters.
The notice kicks off a 60-day comment period followed by a possible review from an administrative judge, which could be a drawn-out process.
Biden and a growing number of lawmakers from both major political parties have been pushing for the DEA decision as marijuana has become increasingly decriminalized and accepted, particularly by younger people. Some argue that rescheduling doesn’t go far enough and marijuana should instead be treated the way alcohol is.
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York applauded the change and called for additional steps toward legalization.
The U.S. Cannabis Council, a trade group, said the switch would “signal a tectonic shift away from the failed policies of the last 50 years.”
The Justice Department said that available data reviewed by HHS shows that while marijuana “is associated with a high prevalence of abuse,” that potential is more in line with other Schedule III substances, according to the proposed rule.
The HHS recommendations are binding until the draft rule is submitted, and Garland agreed with it for the purposes of starting the process.
Still, the DEA has not yet formed its own determination as to where marijuana should be scheduled, and it expects to learn more during the rulemaking process, the document states.
Some critics argue the DEA shouldn’t change course on marijuana, saying rescheduling isn’t necessary and could lead to harmful side effects.
Dr. Kevin Sabet, a former White House drug policy adviser now with the group Smart Approaches to Marijuana, said there isn’t enough data to support moving pot to Schedule III. “As we’ve maintained throughout this process, it’s become undeniable that politics, not science, is driving this decision and has been since the very beginning,” Sabet said.
The immediate effect of rescheduling on the nation’s criminal justice system is expected to be muted. Federal prosecutions for simple possession have been fairly rare in recent years.
Schedule III drugs are still controlled substances and subject to rules and regulations, and people who traffic in them without permission could still face federal criminal prosecution.
Federal drug policy has lagged behind many states in recent years, with 38 states having already legalized medical marijuana and 24 legalizing its recreational use. That’s helped fuel fast growth in the marijuana industry, with an estimated worth of nearly $30 billion.
Easing federal regulations could reduce the tax burden that can be 70% or more for marijuana businesses, according to industry groups. It also could make it easier to research marijuana, since it’s very difficult to conduct authorized clinical studies on Schedule I substances.

No sane person would consider this to be a good idea. Fentanyl by definition is NOT a schedule I substance. This will make it harder for doctors to work. Why don’t the cops just arrest and jail or deport the dealers?

hosting powerpoint night in a month and my ass has Not started whoops so i need some motivation
all of these are based on essays i'd been planning on writing at one point but never got around to, elaborations under the cut
Hero, Villain, Vigilante: This one is about Vulpec on the surface but can be applied to a lot of superhero media more generally. Where is the line drawn between criminal and villain? What separates a hero and a vigilante? Is there a difference between a goon and a hench? Answering every question you never had on the terminology of a powered world.
Powers and Perception: I think about different representations of powers a lot and how different medias handle them. Shapeshifters are one of the most diverse imo just because of the sheer amount of variations, even within the same setting. I also really like the role personal perception plays into it more than a majority of other powers. Whether I do it for this or not I might do the series with other powers later down the track.
Minecraft as a Storytelling Medium: I'll be so real this was 100% inspired when i watched Snifferish's hundred days as a farmer way back at the start of the year. (cannot recommend watching it enough omG) It wouldn't only cover that though, also diving into other projects with different levels of scripting like the traffic series, parkour civilization, and probably lifesteal if i can get my mate to infodump about people other than minutech (jokes bestie ily). It's such an interesting format for stories and there's so much freedom with it, genuinely so interesting
Other: idk man i've got so much shit going around in my head that these cannot possibly be the only things i could make a pwp on
#i'll be so real the first two were my ideas for the last powerpoint night which i procrastinated so hard on i skipped lmao#but yeah many ideas no direction yet#and i'm holding full rights to disregard this poll entirely if i get hit with sudden motivation for one lmao#my only stipulation for other is i probably won't do anything specifically fandom (vulpec doesn't count that's a Project)#just so i can keep it general for everyone listening#i'm not making this a general yap sesh this bitch is gonna have Sources#(of course freedom to everyone else making presentations to do whatever tf they want i'm just taking this way too seriously lmao)#anyway i'm off to bed will look at the results and reply to ppl tmrw o7

Case Study: Sinking of the Erika
In 1999 the Erika, an oil tanker, sailed into bad weather and fractured off the coast of France. The ship was carrying over 30,000 tons of heavy fuel oil, thousands of tons of which were released into the sea, polluting the region and destroying marine life. Though the crew was rescued safely, it was one of the largest environmental disasters of its time, releasing more oil than was spilled the entire previous year combined. The incident triggered numerous legal changes about maritime shipping. Though many of these changes had to do with port control, ship classification, maritime traffic, and other legal requirements, several were as a direct result of the partial cause of the disaster: corrosion. Though weather played a factor in the sinking, the Erika was ultimately found to have had corrosion problems for years without being appropriately repaired.

🟤 Thu morning - ISRAEL REALTIME - Connecting to Israel in Realtime
▪️NO FAMINE IN GAZA.. there is currently no famine in Gaza, a new report by the key Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) organization has found. The study found no evidence of deaths from starvation. (( Now to google “famine in Gaza” and see the hundreds of primary sources and articles repeating the lie - even CNN yesterday. )) https://www.timesofisrael.com/key-food-security-org-finds-no-famine-in-gaza-says-previous-assumptions-wrong/
▪️DESTROYED BUILDINGS IN GAZA.. UN and MSM say 70% of buildings in Gaza destroyed. Official IDF data: 16% of permanent buildings destroyed, 36% of temporary buildings (like sheds) destroyed.
▪️LIES ALL THE WAY DOWN.. The 70% figures above on buildings, together with the fake famine, all of which are touted by the mainstream media and the UN on the basis of complete LIES from Hamas - - are also the basis for international outrage, UN condemnations, and the International Court of Justice’s rulings. It’s LIES all the way down.
▪️NO, YOU CAN’T HAVE BOMBS, YOU MIGHT DEFEND YOURSELF WITH THEM.. The Biden administration made it clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that the shipment of heavy bombs from the United States that was stopped, will not be transferred in full to Israel even after the operation in Rafah is over.
The American concern is that additional arms shipments to Israel will be used to open a front in the north. In an attempt to calm the American administration, an Israeli commitment to diplomatic exhaustion. Accordingly, Israel's commitments to the Americans, in order to receive additional arms shipments, is a negotiation for a political solution in Lebanon at the end of the operation in Rafah and the use of weapons in a "measured" manner in accordance with the US requirement. (N12)
▪️SOCIETY.. as expected, charedi institutions and senior leaders start coming out with statements against conscription following the High Court ruling and Attorney General’s demand the IDF immediately recruit: “the Hasidim of Belz inform you - the Torah students will not be drafted and if, God forbid, they force them to be drafted into the army, all the Rebbe’s and rabbis here will go to jail in their place.”
▪️HOUTHIS STEAL PLANES.. the Houthis have stolen 4 Airbus A330 planes from the Yemen national airline, as well as stealing the maintenance fund for planes from the airline (over $100 million). Yemen pilgrims are stuck in Saudi Arabia after the Hajj… and what are the Houthis planning with 4 commercial passenger planes?
▪️US ANTI-SEMITISM.. pro-Hamas rioter boardesthe subway in New York and demanded that all Zionists get off, getting in everyones face and demanding to know if they are a Jew.
▪️VICTIMS DEMAND.. Victims of October 7 petition the High Court: "Demand a State Commission of Inquiry”.
▪️PROTEST - ANTI-GOVT.. blocked Highway 2 to traffic on both sides, in the area of Gesher HaBonim.
♦️IDF AIRSTRIKES LEBANON.. once was a 3-story building in Nabatia in southern Lebanon, 2nd strike in the same town.
♦️IDF AIRSTRIKES DAMASCUS AREA, SYRIA.. Sayda Zeinab area (which Iran operates as a shrine and a military post), a building belonging to the "Jhad al-Banaa" institution - (a real estate entity belonging to Iran and Hezbollah) was attacked near the town of Hajira in southern Damascus, and a military radar station was attacked in Tel Tzahan in the al-Savida area in southern Syria.
♦️COUNTER-TERROR - JENIN.. overnight large security operation. Firefights, explosives, IED’s (multiple) detonated - INJURIES - multiple helicopter evacs. 17 warriors injured!
