Lots and lots of random spoilerific things about Star Trek comics
Gold Key's old run was written by people who had never actually seen the show. Later they involved fans like Doug Drexler to make things a bit more authentic
This however made them, IMHO, amazing
Blond scotty. Wearing green.
Voodoo planet, with papier mache versions of Earth landmarks which, when blasted with a death ray, cause the real ones to collapse
Spock learns voodoo to combat this threat
The Enterprise completely razes a planet of hostile plant spore things. Like full on extermination of all life
There's a locked room on deck 7 full of evil Vulcan spirits. A yeoman blunders in and all hell breaks loose
Kirk doesn't know what a god damn black hole is
Spock is kidnapped by aliens, has their entire knowledge downloaded into his brain which makes him into a bobblehead for awhile
The Enterprise is briefly taken from Kirk and given to Captain Zarlo, who is a total bellend
Spock forgets to have pointed ears sometimes
The old UK newspaper comic strips were even worse. The first few issues feature "Captain Kurt" and he wears a red shirt. Bailey is also a lead character, giving away which one episode they had knowledge of
Depictions of the Enterprise in their very first strip will shock and horrify you, but after that the art becomes amazing and maintains a very high standard
Marvel did a series following The Motion Picture, and it was a vast improvement, although they technically had rights to the movie and not the series, which led to a little weirdness. Tons of references still were snuck in, though
There's a series of Book and Records, which you can listen to on YouTube and are goofy fun. The Enterprise desperately needs a meal in the art, though.
They draw Romulans as green wizards
They didn't have the rights to Nichelle Nichols or George Takei's likenesses, so get ready for White Uhura and Black Sulu!
They didn't have the rights to The Animated Series either, so M'Ress is a human with weird face paint and Arex is substituted for just some guy
There's an unlicensed Chinese adaptation of The Motion Picture's novelisation (made with zero prior knowledge of Star Trek), which features an all-star cast like O.J. Simpson as Decker and James Brolin as Kirk. It's called The Star Trek, which is a better name than The Motion Picture, IMHO.
DC comics' first run is considered some of the best Trek ever. They're made with love and a deep knowledge of the source material
You know how Star Trek III takes place right after II? WRONG. It was several months later and the crew (with Saavik taking over from Spock) had tons of adventures in the interim. It just seemed like it was right after😂
Before Worf and long long before Ash Tyler, Kirk had a Klingon on his crew
He was a cowardly Klingon named Konom who fled the Empire
He fell in love with a human woman named Bryce
They adopted an albino Klingon/human child with dwarfism which they named Bernie
Kirk has an unhinged, insubordinate crewman on board named Bearclaw and they hate each other
Tension escalates and eventually there's a stabbing
Sulu/M'Ress happens and I don't think people knew what furrys were in the 80's
You know how Spock comes back at the end of III but isn't his old self until the end of Star Trek IV? WRONG AGAIN. He came back just fine, and lost his marbles following an incident months later that just happened to line everything up to make it all seem like it was right after.
After STIII, Kirk becomes captain of the U.S.S. Excelsior NX-2000 and Spock becomes captain of the U.S.S. Surak. We get a few issues exclusively focusing on Spock's ship and his band of merry weirdos.
The U.S.S. Surak keeps changing design, starting off as a sort of Oberth-class ship, then randomly becoming an Excelsior-class ship and finally ending as the warp sled shuttlecraft from The Motion Picture
The Surak's crew include a giant chicken man, a Vulcan hating racist lady and a balding man with a bicycle
They all die horribly and a massive reset button is pressed so everyone is exactly where they were at the end of Star Trek III
In order to make that work they had to bs that the Klingon Bird of Prey was hidden in Excelsior's shuttlebay all this time despite it being way, way too big for that
There's a full on mirror universe invasion
Kirk becomes a celebrity from saving the galaxy all the time
Mr. Arex comes back and becomes chief of security but doesn't really do much
HORTA CREWMEMBER. It's as amazing as it sounds
The first Next Generation comic miniseries was made with knowledge of the first 2 or 3 TNG episodes and nothing else
Everyone is hench as fuck. Picard has washboard abs and bulging muscles
Data is emotional and Troi feels the emotions she senses a la "Encounter at Farpoint"
Wesley is drawn as if he's 10
The B-shift con and ops team are a husband and wife who wear caped superhero versions of Starfleet uniforms with bare legs.
They argue. A lot.
The crew meet an alien Santa Claus and Q loses his powers years before "Deja Q"
The whole Q Continuum visits the Enterprise and they're all John De Lancie but in Starfleet uniforms of every colour under the sun.
After that initial miniseries, the Next Gen crew lose a lot of their muscle mass and start resembling their on screen counterparts a lot better
Picard had a brother who fell down a hole and died as a child. Q offers to rewrite history so he doesn't die. Claude Picard grew up to be Space Superhitler and turns Starfleet and the Federation fascist.
Before all this Q turned Jean-Luc into a goat for the lolz
Marvel's The Early Voyages was very literally Strange New Worlds before Strange New Worlds.
They have a pyrokinetic security officer named Nano and he's awesome
Marvel lost the Trek license quite suddenly, and so the series ends on a cliffhanger where Admiral April is up to something iffy.
Marvel did a Starfleet Academy series featuring Nog and its utterly fantastic
A female Andorian cadet tries to make Nog feel at ease by greeting him in the nude, but Nog fails to take it as an innocent gesture and she immediately sends him flying across the room
Romulan agents with split personalities in Starfleet Academy!
They visit Talos IV and get help from Captain Pike, who's still alive
IDW comics did a prequel to the 2009 reboot where Picard is an ambassador, Data is captain of the Enterprise-E and Nero has hair. It was co-written by the movie writers and was considered sort of vaguely semi canon ish for a time
They originally wanted the Romulan supernova to destroy a lot more, including Earth and have Nero kill the TNG crew. It was the Star Trek Online devs that got them to scale things back because they'd have no universe left to set their game in.
Nero's ship looks like it does because after Romulus was destroyed he took it to a secret Romulan base and had it equipped with reverse-engineered Borg technology
You thought DC struggled to keep ship designs correct? IDW's comics keep using traced fan art from Google Images, and fan art (sometimes with unique ship designs) has shown up on multiple occasions as the Kelvinverse U.S.S. Enterprise
In one IDW TOS comic, the bridge is totally covered with TNG LCARS graphics.
In another, an Orion ship is a gigantic Stargate sticking out of the middle part of Battlestar Galactica.
Wanna see Kelvinverse versions of TOS episodes? That was their first comics run, picking up after the 2009 reboot movie. They start off very faithful and as the series goes on things diverge more and more
To the extent some stories have very different backstories and outcomes
We visit 2 Kelvin mirror universes and a genderswapped universe too. No, Kirk doesn't do what you're thinking.
Q visits the Kelvin Universe and brings the crew forward in time to their version of Deep Space Nine
Nero's time in Klingon prison (from the Star Trek 2009 deleted scenes) and escape is fleshed out
Nero meets V'ger.
Nero mind melds with V'ger.
V'ger turns away due to the sheer force of Nero's hatred.
I wish I was making that up.
Klingons get their hands on Narada's technology and go to war
We get a Khan backstory where the Eugenics Wars are a full on nuclear conflict and "Khan" is the title that little Noon Sing adopts when he takes power
After being revived in the 23rd century, Admiral Marcus has Khan surgically altered to look like Benedict Cumberbatch as part of his John Harrison cover identity
They did a series of shorts called Waypoint, and in the first one Geordi is captain of a future Enterprise and his crew is made up of holographic versions of Data and it's a really sweet concept (this was several years before before ST: Picard brought Data back twice)
There's a prequel series centred around Number One where nobody manages to say her name before being interrupted. If you put the bits together it seems her name was Eureka Robbins. Of course, this is long before novels and SNW made her Una Chin-Riley.

ship poll
to make room for the poll i had to get rid of a bunch of ships i wanted to include--Deep Space 9/Terok Nor, the Refit Constitution Class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 and NCC-1701-A, the Kelvin Timeline U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 and NCC-1701-A, the Sovereign Class. So it's down to just the starfleet hero ships in each tv series.
A few other runner ups i'd liked to have included for their significance: Excelsior class U.S.S. Excelsior NX-2000 (it was arguably a hero ship in Star Trek VI since it's captained by a main character, and it is clearly designed to be The Next Hero Ship even in the movie it appears in), the Infinity (the cloaked temporally shielded ship in Prodigy Season 2), the Enterprise-F (which is an enterprise but has a minor role ultimately), and the H.M.S. Bounty (Klingon bird of prey) from Star Trek IV, which serves as the hero ship for its entire movie.

Ships of the Redball-verse: USS Resolution
The U.S.S. Resolution (NCC-13514) is an Excelsior-class starship that serves as the flagship of Patrol Squadron 172, assigned to patrol Federation space in the Columban Expanse. Commissioned in 2316, the Resolution belongs to the upgraded Lakota-subclass, being refitted for war service during the Dominion War in 2373. Resolution served at both Battles of Chin'toka, earning the Starfleet Command Individual Unit Citation, and the Montgomery Scott Award for Engineering Efficiency. in 2378, she was assigned to the Columban Expanse.

James B. Sikking (Captain Stiles of the Excelsior) Dead at 90
We regret to announce that actor James B. Sikking has died at the age of 90. Fans of the genre will recognize him as Captain Styles, the overconfident captain of the U.S.S. Excelsior in Star Trek III: the Search for Spock, the one whom Scotty made a monkey of by stealing vital components of his ship’s brand new Transwarp Drive. You might also have spotted him as Lt. Howard Hunter on Hill Street…

Shuttlecraft Grayson, assigned to U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-2000.
My own headcanon for this is that Sulu gifted it to Spock back in the 2290s, and Spock has been using it as his own personal shuttle for the past odd ninety years or so.

To Boldy Go-- You are going to wear what?
Legoshi handed the sonic screwdriver to Collot, taking the scanner offered in return. The Lethbridge Stewert was the oldest of the shuttlecraft about the Cherryton, an old type   that was the last survivor of century old excelsior class’s original shuttle compliment.  As such he was as temperamental, prone to malfunction but also lucky as the starship herself. He hummed as he ran the scanner over the shielding array, a modern upgrade to the shuttle that despite everyone in engineering’s efforts was always a nightmare after rougher missions.
Which the last one had certainly been from all reports. Even with Juno’s skill at piloting the venerable shuttle had taken a fair bit of fire during the mission to rescue the hostages from the pirate base. He frowned as he saw the results. “The third power coupling had fractured but we have replaced it but the shield density’s still fluctuating, thoughts?” He asked the sheepdog, who sighed and grinned.
“Maybe the old man is just feeling grumpy you know? One of the hostages did call him and the Cherryton old relics that should be in museums. That or have you checked harmonisors?” Collor replied, making Legoshi quietly chuckle as he ran the scanner over the mentioned part.
“Ah, you were right you know? About the harmoniors, not over the Lethbridge being grumpy, you know he is more professional then that.” Legoshi countered. For all it’s quirks the Lethbridge Stewert was as dependable as the Cherryton. In the broad sense of the word defined by having survived every major conflict the Federation had been involved in over the last century. Not dependable in actually functioning properly all the time.
Collot laughed, a loud booming free one in comparison to Legoshi’s quiet mirth, echoing across the large shuttlebay. “True, there is that. Still can you believe she could be so rude about the vessels that had just saved her? And I thought Betazoids’s were supposed to be tactful.” The dog said as he handed the screwdriver back to Legoshi, a high pitched whine filling the air as he cleaned out and fixed the damaged harmonisors.
Legoshi sighed as he finished the repair and replaced the covering panel over the shielding array. “She was just a kid Collot. Besides it just means she has poor taste.” He said as he pushed himself from under the shuttle, Collot helping him up.
“So any plans tonight?” Legoshi asked Collot as they left the shuttle bay and headed towards engineering, walking through the ligh bluish grey corridors.
Collot rolled his shoulders, chuckling and brushing the fur out of his eyes for a moment. “Not really, may see if anything take my fancy reading wise, you planning something?” The sheepdog quietly responded and asked. Anyone on the Cherryton would fight to defend her honour against anyone who suggested she be scrapped of mothballed, Captain Louis had fought duels against Captain Free of the Shishigumi several times over just such a fact. She was not obsolete, she was venerable. She wasn’t faulty she had quirks.
But sweet god did everyone wish she had even one more holodeck. Even just a small one. Riz had looked into it when he had taken over as head of engineering when Dom transferred to the Sky Dancer but there just wasn’t any free space where supplying the required power was practical. So for now the crew of the Cherryton had to make do with the one holodeck, and the month long waiting lists even for senior officers to use it. Least replicators meant the ship had several small bars and gallies spread around her aged hull. She may have not be the luxury of the bloated Galaxy class, but the Cherryton had her own comforts.
Legoshi couldn’t help the small smile that consumed his face, the way his tail burst into wagging and a spring entered his step. The latter was appropriate considering the cause practically danced all the time himself, even on the bridge.
“Well I may have asked Jack to Tem Forward at the start of the evening, just dinner. But he said yes.” Legoshi quietly said, causing Collot to nearly suffocate him with an enthusiastic hug.
“You finally asked Jack out? You two have been dancing around each other for what? Your whole lives. That is fantastic Legoshi!” his jovial friend practically shouted.
Legoshi blushed, chuckling slightly. “He, hey calm down buddy please! I need to breath if I actually am going to have dinner with him.” He gasped out, making Collot releasing as they approached a turbo lift.
Collot bashfully sighed. “I am so happy for you man that is excellent! Though please don’t bring him back to the bunk room please, he’s the Chief Science officer he has his own private quarters so he should host.” The dog said as they stepped in, wriggling his eyebrows at Legoshi.
“Collot! Seriously what the hell man you can’t just say stuff like that yeesh. We are not going to be doing that, it’s the first date for crying out loud.” Legoshi replied in annoyance, rolling his eyes at his friend.
“First date but you two have been practically together since we were pups, I am pretty sure Toki has a picture of him kissing you when we were what, eight?” Collot energetically said as the whine of the of turbo lift grew louder, an almost crunchy element rising among the sounds. Both canines frowned and then relaxed as the sound abated.
“Yes, and we were seven. Jack didn’t know what he was doing then.” Legoshi replied in embarrassment as the mentioned photograph realised itself in his memory. It was one of the few that featured him and his mother, most having been lost on the Olympic at Worf and Legoshi had committed all the surviving ones to memory.
Collot shook his head, amusement clear as the turbo lift stopped. “He was expressing his love for you Legoshi, he always has and you two have always orbited each other. Just relax and I am sure it will be fine.” The white furred man said as they stepped out into a light brown corridor with deep burgundy flooring. It was one of the things Legoshi loved about the Cherryton. At over a century old and having had numerous refits and repairs she held examples of almost every interior design that Starfleet had used in that time period, some being hybrids such as this corridor.
Legoshi smiled, stretching his arms out above his head as they walked. “I know, and I love him Collot, and I know it is different to how I love you and the others. You guys are like brothers whereas Jack.. I can’t quite put it into words if I am honest.” The wolf replied as a Vulcan and a brown horse passed them.
Collot playfully elbowed Legoshi’s side. “I know don’t worry man. That said if either you or Jack do ever decide you’d like to have some fun with a third..” Collot playfully suggested, causing Legoshi to snort in disbelief.
“Collot you are fucking unbelievable. And I thought you were seeing that girl from the Astro cartography labs?” Legoshi asked, making Collot’s shoulders to slump.
“Eh she ended it, turns out she was just curious about sleeping with a guy with fur, she asked if I had a knot for crying out loud!” The dog replied quietly, anger and humiliation clear in his whisper.
Legoshi grimaced and hugged his fellow canine, briefly resting his head on Collot’s shoulder. “I am sure you will find someone. We are due to dock at a starbase in a few weeks aren’t we? Maybe you will meet someone there but just avoid humans maybe?” He replied. Honestly he loved Collot like a brother but his taste in partners was generally terrible. Personally he thought the dog’s breakup with Riz at the end of their days in the academy was one of the dog’s biggest mistakes, and certainly didn’t think any of the partners he’d had since had come even close to being as good or as serious as that relationship.
Collot shrugged as they approached the doors to central engineering. “I guess. Maybe I should just take a break from trying to find someone you know? Focus on myself?” The dog said as they stepped into the beating heart of the Cherryton. Like the rest of the venerable starship it was an eccentric mixture of technology and design. The layout and overall design was highly reminiscent to that more commonly found on Intrepid class vessels, with several accommodations for the excelsior class’s different framework. It had been part of the Cherryton’s last major refit in the aftermath of the Dominion war, a several year long renovation that had been the result of Starfleet scrambling to keep as many ships in service as possible. The soft hum of the warp core filled the chamber, odd little groans, beeps and other small mechanical noise joining the quiet melody that was usual for the room.
Sat at the small desk to the left of the large hall like chamber was Riz and Kibi, the Chief engineer and lieutenant quietly but fiercely discussing something over several sheets of paper and datapads. Riz’s preference for the archaic writing and drawing medium was a quirk he’d gain from his uncle, Chief Medical Officer Gouhin.
“Look I’m telling you if we reroute the main power conduits to deck twelve that will fix the problem, it’s where they ran when she was first built.” Kibi said as Legoshi and Collot approached, the wolf opening the cupboard next to the office area as Riz replied.
“Half of that space is now housing the backup shield capacitors, they were moved there so extra armour could be bolted on during the Dominion war. And there is some piping there on the port side which isn’t on any of the plans we have. Plus I am pretty sure if we wanted to do that we would need a lot longer then the five days we will have.” Riz said firmly.
Collot bounced over eagerly as Legoshi put the tools he and Collot had used to repair the shuttlecraft. “Hey did you hear Legoshi has finally asked Jack out?” The sheepdog said, making both of the other engineers look up, processing his words for a moment before both smiling. Legoshi groaned, knowing what was coming.
“Finally, it’s only been what, twenty two years since their first kiss?” Riz dryly said, making Collot and Kibi both chuckle. There were times when Legoshi really, really wished the two hadn’t stayed best friends after their breakup, between them Collot and Riz had the ammunition and wit to embarrass pretty much every officer on the ship.
“That’s what I said! Oh I can’t wait to tell Gosha and Toki they will be so happy!” Collot excitedly said, practically vibrating with energy as he brushed his fur out of his face, briefly revealing the soft almost pink red glow of his bionic eyes.
Legoshi rolled his eyes, shoulders slumping slightly as he approached the table. “I really don’t think my lo, er romant, umm dating life is an appropriate topic for here guys? And what is the problem?” Legoshi softly said, idly scratching the underside of his muzzle as he joined the group.
Kibi let out a full belly laugh, dismissively waving a hand at Legoshi. “Wolfy, when we first met I was sure you and Jack were dating. Hell even when we dated it was clear your heart was his, he’s always the first you check in on after any combat situations and you always bug Riz to send you on the away or boarding missions if he is going. And he is just as bad for you.” The anteater said as Riz nodded in agreement, a laconic smile on the bears face.
“He’s right you know? The dance he does around you is the most complicated but also the most natural and even in the academy he was like that. Hell he practically glows whenever he is with you Legoshi.” The chief engineer cheerfully said.
“See nothing to worry about Legoshi! And least you are taking him to Tem Forward I was worried you’d take him bug hunting thought ducts and tubes.” Collot loudly said, causing Kai to walk over, Voss on his shoulder.
Legoshi groaned in frustration. “Why not get Louis to make a shipwide announcement why don’t you?” He mumbled out loud, placing his face in his hands.
“Ohh you two finally ending the dance eh? About bloody time I swear you two have been making eyes at each other as long as you’ve had them.” Kai loudly added, Voss nodding.
“Pretty much, even as kids it was as obvious to everyone else as they were oblivious to it.” The fennic weapons specialising engineer said, nostalgia thick in his deep voice.
“So what are you planning to wear Legoshi?” Kibi asked, making Legoshi look at him, cocking his head in confusion.
“Eh I was just going to wear a spare uniform you know?” The wolf said, making everyone else stare, Collot and Riz facepalming. Kibi and Voss’s ear’s twitched. The lights flickered. Small things like that were an everysay occurrence aboard the old vessel.
“Even the Cherryton thinks that is a bad idea Legoshi, you cannot seriously be planning on wearing your uniform to a date, let alone the first one?” Riz asked, his voice pained.
Legoshi looked at the bear in concern. “Do you think I should wear my dress uniform? I do want to look smart for Jack.” The wolf plainly said, prompting pained groans from his fellow engineers.
“Okay wolfo, we are dressing you for this, seriously have you learned nothing from living with me or when we dated?” Kibi declared loudly in annoyance, the rest of the department nodding in agreement with the anteater.

More Roddenberry Archive musings...
Tumblr media
This is supposedly the launch configuration of the Prime universe U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701's main bridge. It's based on the first piece of concept art for the TOS set, and is one of several weird not-quite-canon things the Roddenberry Archive has decided to consider canonical. 2 command chairs and the whole centre console and chairs spins to face the very minimalist 60's scifi perimeter consoles or viewscreen. Try to imagine Captain April and first officer Chris Pike on this bridge, it's weird.
Tumblr media
Behold! The top of the Jeffries Tube.
Tumblr media
FERENGI ATM MACHINE ON THE PROMENADE!!!!
Tumblr media
The view from OG Captain Pike's bed, featuring his awesome TV, his laser gun and his Starfleet hat. We wouldn't get hats back in Trek for 50 years.
Tumblr media
This is inside the Ringship Enterprise XCV-330, circa 2100. The Ringship in canon was seen only in picture form or a desktop model, we never saw inside. The ship was actually designed for a non-Trek Roddenberry scifi show called Starship which never came to be, and there was actually concept art made for the interior which the RA people decided to import to Trek too. Predating the transporter, here is the Metafier.
Tumblr media
Discovery Season 2's U.S.S. Enterprise has a cool corridor running around it. Walk around it and... it goes nowhere😂 the Archive tries to balance the reality of everything being a television show with the fantasy of a 100% accurate in-universe museum, it'll give sets ceilings to make them into a believable spaceship but doesn't want to go nuts inventing too much of it's own stuff and that sometimes leads to weird stuff like this dead end
Tumblr media
Speaking of ceilings, here's the ceiling and lights of the classic TOS Enterprise's corridors. I think they did a decent job keeping to the TOS aesthetic. The sets TOS was filmed on didn't have ceilings at all.
Tumblr media
The Enterprise-B actually had a red carpet for special guests Kirk, Scotty and Chekov
Tumblr media
Strange New Worlds has the coolest transporter room of all. Just look at it😍
Tumblr media
The TNG Enterprise battle bridge has it's own ready room! And it's super tiny, ultra cramped and Picard probably never used it because there's no replicator in there and thus no access to tea.
Tumblr media
The 1st version of TNG engineering's big Master Systems Display as seen in "Encounter at Farpoint". Ten Forward wouldn't be a thing until season 2, and you can see here an earlier deck layout and the original concept for the saucer rim, a corridor walkway with windows above and below. You'll also note Ten Forward would actually be on deck 11 had they not changed the diagram by then.
Tumblr media
Kirk's quarters on the TOS Enterprise has dresser drawers full of uniforms for when his gets torn
Tumblr media
Walking around the Roddenberry Archive ships is eerie as hell. You're the only one on board, exploring corridors and poking your head into rooms. These starships are liminal spaces. This for me adds to the atmosphere greatly.
Here's the link (enjoy before it vanishes again!):
Roddenberry.x.io
Here's my original post about the Roddenberry Archive:
Also a clarification, I was wrong when I said it won't be in VR. There is one VR setup it was designed for - the $3,000 Apple Vision Pro. More details here, although it appears to only show a 2D window rather than be fully immersive 3D, possibly confirming what I was told previously that no current 3D setup is capable of doing a true VR experience:

Lieutenant junior-grade, Demora Sulu, helmsman
Daughter of Captain Hikaru Sulu of the U.S.S. Excelsior, Demora Sulu was born on March 24 2273. A bright and enthusiastic young crew member, her family ties made her close with many members of the crew of the NCC-1701 Enterprise. Her father, of course, but also Lieutenant Pavel Chekov, whom she considered as an uncle, as well as Nyota Uhura, who was named as her godmother. She was a close friend to Anton Pavlovich Chekov, and was secretly a bit disappointed that he decided to pursue a career in the junior ambassadorial corp rather than Starfleet.
After graduating from Starfleet Academy in 2293, she was assigned as helmsman of the Enterprise-B on its launch. Having been on board during its disastrous rescue attempt of the El-Aurian ship and accident with the temporal energy ribbon was a very difficult experience for her. Following this event, Saavik also got closer to Demora, having only briefly met her at gatherings of the old Enterprise crew that they both happened to attend.
Not only is Demora used to feeling like she has big shoes to fill due to her father’s success, but this experience at the helm during such an accident made her lose some confidence in her skills when she was assigned as helmsman of the U.S.S. Eridani as a lieutenant junior-grade in 2296, aged 23. Captain Saavik, having been a helmsman herself not so long before, often tried to be reassuring or to give words of encouragement that Demora is doing the right thing. As the mission of the Eridani progressed, she became more confident in herself, her skills and the path that she wanted to take.
She quickly developed a close friendship with navigator Wane Perry, whom she had met at the Academy and shared a few classes with.
Her father taught her fencing, and she liked antique weapons. In her quarters was also a small habitat to a neutered pet tribble, gifted by her aunt Nyota.

The U.S.S. Archimedes, looks like an upgraded Excelsior-class with the engineering hill like the Lakota and Enterprise-B, but Sovereign-class style deflector dish and nacelles.  The saucer also is different, stretched out like a Sovereign-class starship while retaining the elements of an Excelsior Class.
Per the Paramount + release this is an Obena-class starship.
We also got some okudagrams in the ep:
