In chambers of the female mind,

But every woman is unique,

With different mountains she may seek.

No single answer can suffice,

No one-size-fits-all advice.

So men who wish to understand,

Must listen more, and less demand.

For in each woman's heart and mind,

A universe of wants they'll find.

The mystery of the feminine

May never fully be within

A man's grasp to comprehend,

And perhaps that's not the end.

For in the puzzle and the chase,

In questions asked and unsolved case,

finished the goblin emperor. pretty much only have good things to say about it. did not expect it to be so wordy and dare i say crawling at times, but i appreciate how it dared to keep to its own pace and say everything it wanted to say and i was never bored with any of it. also enjoyed how the chapters were (mostly) contained to their own little event in maia's new life as an emperor with the cute detail of chapter titles. the characters also felt very effectively characterized, even the ones who only had a few lines or pages to make their presence felt. the world, too, felt very detailed and well thought-out without hammering a whole bunch of lore onto the reader. you can really feel the enthusiasm and curiosity katherine addison had for this world and its characters, but the way in which it was presented felt very... contained? strange to say for a 400+ page book, but i mean it had a very satisfying balance of presenting us the most interesting parts of these character's personalities and histories and society without overloading us with, what i am sure, was a very extensive worldbuilding document. very satisfying read for enjoyers of immersive fantasy court politics. with goblins and elves front and center!

Yesss im so here for the inception fixation. Its world building is genuinely fucking wacko, i love it. If you wrote anything in the setting, I would devour it

i don't have much more than thoughts and ideas rn, but i do have one that's basically bluebeard's wife but inception that i keep returning to time and time again (also bluebeard's wife is in this is not his lawfully wedded wife, but in the process of being seduced by him - not for her beauty or charm or anything like that, though she has some wit, but for her creativity and intellect; he disappears and eventually murders people and imprisons them in his mind in order to use their intellectual property without retaliation in reality - through the provision of dreamtech and opportunities to use it, and isolation from anyone who could recognise the danger she's in, who doesn't recognise his fixation on her for the threat it is until she realises that the jealous ghost that keeps showing up to terrorise and brutally murder her is one of his previous victims)

recurring minor characters not being in s2 of the show does mean that TLO is absolutely doomed now if they ever do get to it, because the weight and impact of characters like Silena and Beckendorf are entirely based on how long they've been around in the books and their longstanding connection to events in the story and particularly Percy (not to mention Beckendorf's importance in SoM specifically but i digress)

HOWEVER. on the bright side: this means they are spared from being in the show for now. so.
