The original 'virgin vs chad' meme

I feel like everyone is sick of those stupid soyjack vs Chad "my opinion is good and based and correct, your opinion bad and wrong and stinky" memes by this point, as they're some of the lowest forms of current internet 'humor.' But precisely because those memes are so bad and also everywhere, I feel it's worth giving some credit to the fact that the original "The Virgin Walk / The Chad Stride" was actually a brilliant meme.

"The Virgin Walk" image showed up first, and it was standard 4chan stuff - which is to say, highly negative. Just a whole bunch of random small traits that people can have, bundled together in an accusatory way to try and make people insecure about them having "virgin" posture, by the kind of people who genuinely worries about being an "alpha male" (Or possibly pointing out their own flaws as a form of self-hatred, flip a coin when it comes to 4chan)

And then, on another thread, someone made the Chad Stride edit to go along with it.

It's a great piece of satire by how simple it is. Just by taking the traits listed in the original image, then inverting and exaggerating them, the result is an absurd caricature of a man who does not (and should not) exist. Through exaggeration, it demonstrates how the people who constantly worry about seeming 'Chad-like' are chasing after behaviour that is utterly unhinged and disconnected from reality.

I think this gif demonstrates it perfectly by putting it in motion:

Virgin is a normal, if insecure dude. Chad is an absolute fucking maniac. (Not to mention all the references to violence in the image)

So, while it did degrade into those awful soyjak memes we all know and hate because that is the nature of the internet, I feel like it's worth remembering that in the original image that spawned this entire trend, you're supposed to laugh at Chad. So Horror wouldn't steal our name, but who would? I feel like Killer would, and after everything he's stolen you're prepairded for all the games to stop and him to royally fuck you over, only for him to do nothing.

Here's the fae boys, on the subject of name stealing, on a scale of would to wouldn't.

Killer - He'd steal your wallet so he could root through and find your driver's license with your name on it. Do not trust this asshole. You'd expect him to use it to make you his slave or something, but he'd just use it for extremely harmless pranks; making you pay attention to him, making you hug him even though he's covered in soot, etc. He says he'll give it back if you go for dinner with him. It's so hard to tell what's going on in his head at any given time.

Dust - Yeah, he'd take your name. But he'd take good care of it. He wouldn't do anything with it - he wouldn't even tell anyone he knows it. No one except the two of you knows he has so much power over you. What could he possibly want from you...? He asks you to follow him out into the snow. He gently takes your shoulders, leans in, and murmurs something in your ear. Was that... was that his true name...?

Nightmare - Does he consider name stealing below him? Sure. But he's not above taking an opportunity. Leave something so precious out in the open, and he'll be quick to snatch it up. He might be the Winter King but he's always had a weakness for pretty things.

Dream - He'd take your name if the opportunity presented, but purely out of a desire to protect you. If he has it, no one else does, and you'll be safe. He'll give it back alongside a very stern lecture.

Horror - Doesn't need to, doesn't want to. He's busy baking you a pie.

Farmer - Already knows it.

The fact that in house of hades Annabeth is like "Nooo Percy 😭 what you did wasn't good some powers should never be used like that 😰" and then the narrative actively decides to prove her wrong in Blood of Olympus? By having Percy listen to Annabeth's ideology and nearly get killed for it in his fight against Polybotes? He doesn't use his control over poison and nearly dies from it. Had Jason not convinced Kymopoleia to help them, Percy would have died. Listening to Annabeth would have killed Percy.

(and then Percy says that he deserved to die for what happened to Akhlys and Jason is like mood bro and it's never brought up again 😑)

And THEN, in the same damn book Nico literally turns Bryce Lawrence into a ghost and Reyna who has trauma associated with ghosts goes: yeah it was scary and reminded me of my dead abusive dad, but Nico we all have darkness inside of us and we should get to release it. Plus you saved us soooo ☺️

love the character of adam. rose asks to take him with just because hes cute and nine agrees because he can't ever say no to her. nine helps her lie so she can impress him. hes her boytoy for ten minutes and he fucks shit up immediately. this man didnt get more than a single episode in before being kicked out and we never hear about him again. hes only ever a narrative device that tells us it cant ever be more than just rose and the doctor, that no one can come between them, and then a single episode later they meet jack and the narrative says "ok yeah i guess one guy could actually"
