Note
i haven't made it very clear either-
i was refering to the Brother Figure fic but with Kid Flash xb
“Brother Figure!?”
Pairing: Platonic!Wally West x Reader
Summary: Having a speedster as a brother figure is wild! Especially when you’re the youngest on the team
Genre: fluff
Note: y/n is younger than Robin by a few months, but is still 13. based on this work -> brother figure w/Conner Kent
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robin looks at the teenager who sat beside him, watching Cartoon Network closely. Seeing that the network was playing a show called “Courage the Cowardly Dog”.
“Hey Y/N?”
He only gets a hum from the kid beside him, he leans back on the couch. “Yknow, despite out of everyone on this team. You and Wally sure have a sibling.”
This peaks the interest of the teenager by him. “What do you mean? With raised brows, not able to show his identity yet with his shades. “What do I mean? He’s literally like a brother to you?!”
Tumblr media
-FLASHBACK-
The young teen had missed the bus, the teen groans annoyed. Pulling out there phone to text the team about the incident.
Y/N- “Missed bus.. :( now I have to walk to school again.”
Boy wonder- “stay whelmed, maybe a little exercise won’t hurt?”
Y/N- “shut up boy wonder.”
Boy wonder- “Hey?!”
KF- I’m on my way!
Y/N- what?
In a second, a red headed speedster shows up, hair messy with a goofy smile. “Hey kid!” “Wally?!” Wally turns his back to you, and crouched. “Get on pipsqueak, can’t have you missing school.” The young teenager gets on the back of the speedster, wrapping their legs around his waist tightly. Wally smirks, “One ticket to [dc city] school, let’s ride!”
For Wally, it didn’t feel that short, but he enjoyed giving his favorite person a ride to school as if he was their transport. Cut to a bewildered child who is now dropped off to school. Shockingly getting off of the teen speedster who uses his quick speed to fix them up.
“Alright sport! Get good grades so you can stay on the team, bye love youuuu!!” He speeds off, leaving the wind to hit their face.
Tumblr media
-ANOTHER FLASHBACK-
Being bored of a random late night, the teenager goes into the kitchen to get a late night snack. Their small frame groggily walking to the kitchen part of the base.
Was it bad enough that they didn’t seem to notice a red headed teenager who was downing ice cream like a goblin? No. Because Wally was use to the insomniac teen. He already sped around and place their average go to snack. Sitting by them as they just eat it.
“Thanks wally…”
Wally softly smiles and rubs their back up and down gently, “No problem buddy”. After a few talks, the small teen starts to feel sleepy and Wally noticed a little after they stopped giving him answers to his small rants. The speedster can’t help but feel his heart thump at the small teen he sees as a little sibling.
He picks them up and takes them to their personalized room, then going back to clean the kitchen mess up.
He already has his nightly talks with his buddy.
Tumblr media
Now that the teen thinks about it, they look at Robin who smirks. “You’re such a little sibling to Wally, it’s adorable!”
Huffing, they hit the boy wonder who flinched at the hit. “Ouch?! I was just making a clear observation.” Robin glared at them, but the teen didn’t care other than the fact they kept watching courage the cowardly dog.
That’s when Wally speeds over into the living room of the base and shows off the bags of junk food he bought. He saved all his allowance money to buy snacks for him and his little sibling. “Yo, pipsqueak! Guess what I gottt~”
Eyes widen, they see that he bought their favorite chips, ice cream, sodas, and etc.
“Wally, no way!” The teen immediately rushes over to the speedster who held a smug grin. “Yes way! Cmon, let’s watch the new episode do your favorite cartoon bud.”
“Yay!!!!”
Robin couldn’t help but watch the two walk off, smiling at how they were truly siblings by heart. And not by blood.

Superman (2025) Spoiler Based Thoughts, Ratings, and Trigger Warnings.
I finally saw the new Superman. This time with a non comic book friend! Which gave me some very interesting perspectives. In case you are just stumbling upon my thoughts you should know: I am a huge DC comics nerd, I started my journey with the Cartoon Network Teen Titans and haven’t stopped since. My personal favorite character is Wally West, and often my opinions stem from that! I also am a huge movie and tv nerd, you name it I have opinions on it, I often recite the history of the American Shot when asked, so for your safety don’t ask.
First: The Bad
I have three major complaints that I think deserve mentioning, and one that isolates more a personal opinion! I wasn’t a fan of two casting decisions, one and a half costuming choices and one two point. But I do believe that at least one of the plot points is absolutely a valid choice to smooth along some superhero oddity’s.
So the actor who plays Lois Lane is a little flat for me, which is strange because I honestly liked her acting in the one other thing I’ve seen of hers. Now I don’t think she’s as large of a part as the story seemed to want her to be, which might be adding to it, or perhaps the part was lessened because of the acting.
The other casting I struggled with was Jimmy! Now if you knew me you’d know Ashmore is my Jimmy. You would also know my belief that you can add diversity but taking it away is rude at least. Not only did they cast a white Jimmy (post supergirl of all things), he’s also a brunette! Now that aside he was a fantastic actor who makes the role work, but his character is still a jerk for the way he treated Eve.
Now onto the costuming! I love costuming, so imagine my surprise when everything is perfect except the justice gang clothes. Well half of the clothes. Mr Terrific remains practically perfect in every way, the mask, the jacket, the chair! He is perfectly cast and the costume is wonderful, but the other two… Let’s start with Hawkgirl. Her outfit is fine, it’s militant and looks great with her wings and helmet but I was not a fan of the black and white color scheme. It’s Guy’s outfit that I am less than thrilled about, the outfit is fine but it’s black and white, it never goes green and in fact I believe they were really nervous bringing in a Green Lantern. He only really gets to show off twice and the constructs are not as cool as they could be.
And Omniman. The second I heard the name I knew that I was going to see Superman beat up the alternate universe version of him. Now color me surprised when he was Match. Now for those not familiar with the character of Match, he is exactly what you see with this Omniman only he’s the first attempt Lex makes to mix his DNA with Superman’s. Which I understand is far too much to explain in this movie, but I think the movie should have just called him Match and said he was a match for superman in skill and ability.
I also find it a real waist that Jimmy the photographer never takes a photo. Like he is important in three scenes and literally two of them would make more sense if he had a camera! In one he is supposed to see that a source has sent him secret information via selfie, only he doesn’t actually do that, Lois does! And in another as they are writing an article about the final battle, he’s doing the transcript instead of taking pictures, Kat could have done the transcript, but no!
The Good:
I will make this short: everything was good. Fine I’ll point out some of my favorite parts, just for you the reader! I was a personal fan of the characters, the easter eggs, and the politics. But I also thought the writing was good, as was the world building.
I am going to talk about the characters, easter eggs, and world building first because they share similarities. The characters are strong besides my one complaint. I knew each characters motivation and worldview pretty instantly with every main character, but it was the side characters that shined. Kat Grant was in a handful of scenes and truly showed she was a girls girl, as well as a reporter, something I think is often overlooked. Perry made every moment on screen about him, in true Perry White fashion. I think he could have easily been made into a J Jonah Jameson character but wasn’t! Eve was perfect from the start which made me think she would be Mercy reimagined. Mr Terrific was a particular standout to me, very autistic coded! He was funny, motivated, personable in the right way, and specific. Guy Gardner reminded me why Nathan Fillion is always a win, he was just on the right side of tool while also being a good enough guy to be a Green Lantern. Superman and Lex were both amazing as well! Everyone has mentioned it already, but Clark, Superman, and Omniman are so clearly played differently while still being in character, Clark was bumbling and silly, but when his voice drops and he straightens up we see Superman a paragon of Hope Justice and a Better Tomorrow, and Omniman gives real mindless Cave Man vibes.
The opening text told us about the world, when metahumans showed up, when Superman showed up. And yet that’s not the only world building. We see the world as it would have changed to adapt. There are protocols for when a giant kaiju shows up, some superpowered individuals have normal jobs and partners, others are being paid to respond to said kaiju. We see Stagg Labs when Superman walks into a random building, we hear of landmarks like Star Labs and Jitters, the daily planet cares about getting the story first! The world building is the easter eggs, is the characters!
Now onto the politics. Don’t scroll! I feel you should know now, I am pro Palestine, pro immigrants rights, pro LGBT rights, pro Human Rights, and in general pro People. Now I know there are other pro Palestine movies out there, but I have yet to see a mainstream movie so open about that opinion. Superman has always been what the far right is against, and that is clear here. I personally believe you would be a fool not to see the direct parallels being made in this movie, the politics inform the movie.
The writing is fantastic. Every single line felt right to me, like nothing failed in delivery. If it was humorous then it landed funny. If it was serious it landed serious. And if the was a nod to the fans it was a nod to the fans! You could watch the movie without being a fan, the friend I brought thought the movie was good without a caveat something that he’s only done for one other superhero movie. And yet everything was crafted for me as well, I already pointed out some easter eggs, but those were just the tip of the iceberg for me! I saw story beats from my favorite comics, I knew why some things weren’t said to leave room for specific character based storylines if a side character tested well, I see the Hawkgirl movie, I see the Justice League movie, and if those movies do actually get made they will have options. There was an in joke for the green lantern fans who think the ring oaths are just whatever the writers wanted them to be. And so much more!
Third: The Ratings
Plot: 🍿🍿🍿🍿.75/5. This movie has a bomb plot. Everything fits, each choice complements the story they want to tell. I do think that Jimmy’s lack of camera skills will forever taint this movie as will all the eye stuff…
Characters: 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♂️🦸‍♂️🦸‍♂️.5/5 Every character felt actualized and like they lived in this movie. But the sports writer felt a little hokey, which is partially the writing, and Jimmy has no camera, plus I genuinely don’t know the nanite girls motivation. actually she’s kinda the weakest character that the plot needs. And possibly should have been Mercy Graves…
Acting: 🎭 🎭🎭🎭/5. Like I said the main love interest didn’t really do it for me. She is the main secondary character but she doesn’t stand out or feel genuine. Every other actor feels right in this world and she did not. And again I really liked this actor in the other thing I saw of hers.
Cinematography: 🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️/5 I can’t remember a single bad shot. Do I think the CGI will age well? Still probably better than the Green Lantern movie. The movie seems like the perfect mix of action and heartfelt storytelling. Each place feels unique, the city feels different then kansas wich both feel different than the other countries/realms we visit. The glass box prison was expansive and terrifying. The Daily Planet felt warm where Lex Corp felt colder, they actually did this by making all of the Luthor owned stuff have silver and grey stuff while the rest of the city had gold/copper and even the cement was lighter in the buildings. I personally could have done without all the eye gore.
Dialogue: 🔊🔊🔊🔊.75/5 The lines are excellent, the banter is well done, the language isn’t too sci-fi nonsense, and it does a good job of sounding lived in. There is a scene that stands out where Clark is walking into work, he says hello to the doorman, goes to the main floor where each person has something to say to him, but not in a way that feels forced.
Sound Design: 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵/5 The classic score meets the modern music. I believe the band at the end was just in universe. But it was the use of the classic theme that got me. I heard it at least twice and each time it was triumphant without being to cheesy, better ears would be able to tell you if it was edited but I wasn’t able to focus in theatre. I would say the general CGI noises (noises made from CGI beings) were not as pleasant as I think they could be, sometimes things were just a little fake sounding to me.
Emotional Impact: 💧💧💧💧💧/5 This is subjective and only my feelings matter on it. I teared up at points, and honestly will be thinking about several characters for a long time (many I didn’t mention here). I am drained, from it. Yet I couldn’t help but leave feeling as if people can make a difference.
Overall: 📰📰📰📰.71/5. I absolutely love this movie! I don’t think I have seen another like it in a long time! It is a perfect Superman!
Forth: Bizarre Trigger Warnings (These are just things I feel you should be warned about if possible but you might not see other places)
1. Axolotl death. A giant axolotl is killed by the good guys but not specifically Superman.
2.Dog Whimpers. There is a point earlier on where the dog whimpers because he can’t go with Superman. The do remains mostly if not completely unharmed in this movie, but the whimpers got to me.
3. Kidnapped woman. Listen I know that’s like every superhero movie in one. But, Lex Luther kidnaps his ex girlfriends and keeps them in his black ops prison.
4. Double end credits scene. zulu have to wait ten minutes to see all the footage.

I just had a dream that KND rebooted by Warburton's own choice because he wanted to fix what was wrong with the original. And there was an episode that kind of started out normal with Sector V ambushing Father but at some point their method of getting inside (Hoagie) was caught by Father and dangled by the collar in front of Sector V where Father attempted to humiliate Hoagie by confessing that Hoagie was an in-the-closet trans girl and had the Delightfuls show them all proof of such. Because they had bigger priorities they ended up kicking Father's ass because he was distracted but when they got back they questioned Hoagie about the legitimacy of it all and she took off her hat to reveal she had been growing it out underneath of it but was too afraid to reveal she wanted to be a girl because she thought they'd hate her. They all support her and tell her they want her to be more openly feminine for her own comfort. The next few episodes have subplots with her exploring her new identity, and also contain plots related to it like Abby discovering she's lesbian during her time helping Hoagie with navigating herself, or Wally discovering he has feelings for Hoagie. I also vaguely remember a point where they all have to convince Hoagie to not rename herself to "Hoagee" (yes, like "geez" type of gee) where she then decided to just keep "Hoagie" as a nickname ("it's feminine enough... Right? -Gie is feminine?") And name herself Hollie. The fandom immediately freaked out when the episode air, going "WAIT DID THAF ACTUALLY JUST HAPPEN??? MY JAW IS DROPPED!!! /" and everyone was remaking their Hoagie designs to incorporate her being trans into it and Cartoon Network immediately started dropping cash grab merch about it 😭
I cannot make this shit up. The one time my dreams are understandable and it's "Hoagie is canonly transfem" AU. I had to share this because it was locked in my head as soon as I woke up

Changed some numbers for this AU but yeah, ALL LITTLE SIBLINGS ARE NOW OLDER AND THEY'RE TND OPERATIVES!!!
Penny's there too because I say so. :3
Roles:
#363: Leader no one can stand, but at least he knows what he's doing... for the most part. Still, everyone wonders how he managed to get into the TND in first place since no one wants him around... welp. Older brother of Numbuh 362. The two can't stand each other and Rachel avoids him like the plague. He always screams at her.
#T: 2x4 technology expert, pilot and hacker. He knows any technology around. Sometimes you can catch him play some games when they have nothing to do. Never leaves without his C.E.L.L.P.H.O.N.E. (Compact Electronic Line Linking Pathway Holds Outer Network Expansion). Mostly silent, very chill, keeps to himself. Can't stand Mushi more than Harvey, if you can believe that.
Older brother of Hoagie Gilligan, aka Numbuh 2. The kid loves him and wants to hang out with him more but, as any teenager would, Tommy keeps him away from himself and his stuff and his room. But Hoagie knows he will know ALL his secrets, one day! Let's hope he doesn't find out he's also a TND spy in the Teen Ninja lines (he gets info from Father and passes it to KND, not a real bad guy!)...
#001: Second in command, everyone would prefer her to be the leader but... well. Very active teen, a bit of a tomboy, she's in charge to come up with plans and put them into action. Kids sometimes mistake her for a kid in a teen body.
Loves to skate, play videogames and dance. Works as a mermaid actor at the aquarium in the weekends. Dating Joey Beetles. Sometimes babysits Nigel Uno, who trusts her enough to ask his parents to adopt her so they can be siblings. She... actually loves the idea... but it's impossible.
#40: Weapon and combat expert, especially for sport related actions. Can't talk at all and speaks using his V.O.I.S. (Vocal Operator Imitating Sounds) to speak. Thanks to that, he can use any voice he manages to sample, kind of like an AI.
Very active, plays many sports and he's good at all of them, especially dodge ball. Dating Penelope Doe.
Older brother of Wallabee Beetles, aka Numbuh 4. The two used to be inseparable, but since Wally joined the KND, he kind of drifted away because "teens are the enemy". It broke Joey's heart but... what can you do.
#30: Spy extraordinaire and camouflage master. She can turn anyone into a different person in a make-up session. Someone might say she's too good at that... like she's hiding something.
She's the school queen, a cheerleader, everyone wants to be associated with her. She's also very intelligent and good at art. She's perfect! But somehow, Tommy doesn't like her. Nerds...
Older sister of Kuki Sanban, aka Numbuh 3. The two seem to be very close, playing together and sharing everything, from make-up to clothes (well, those that fit...).
Sometimes Kuki accidentally reveals her KND plans to her, eheh, so silly! Mushi always has a good laugh telling them to her team!
No, I'm not talking about the TND...
No one suspects anything. Not even Tommy, since she never revealed her face while working for Father.

favorite headcanons about roy harper and/or barbara gordon?
my two fave bitchy gingers who have kissed dick grayson on the mouth. i wish they interacted more in canon because babs is a lot like bruce in some ways but with none of the bat baggage and roy is capable of being very annoying to any bat he meets. also, their most notorious appearances in comics are both groundbreaking for different reasons (killing joke + snowbirds) but also portray their ability to overcome hardship and become something so much greater.
my favourite hc vein for roy is his dynamic as an adult with the other titans. one of the persephone sequels is about this cause i think it’s so much fun — especially with garth and wally. in titans99, despite his history of leadership and experience on the team, roy is still very much considered secondary to dick. wally “i picked a favourite child” west explicitly says he doesn’t want roy in a leadership position. roy is a dedicated single father, but garth “sees his kid every other weekend” gives him grief for being a goof. all the titans love each other, would die for each other, but that doesn’t mean they’re an incredibly well adjusted adults. they’re so messy, and i think roy as an emotional rock for them is an under-utilised part of the relationship. roy was the only thing tethering dick to the mortal plane after donna died!! he’s actually quite emotionally intelligent when he wants to be!
same kinda deal with babs — her network is so much more interesting when u divorce her from the cave. she’s so mean, and can be so terrible, but it all comes from a place of such deep caring. i really really want her and vic stone to hang out more because they have so much in common — a total lack of autonomy for something out of their control, then regaining their power through technological connection. it’d be a great narrative about disability! i don’t like when babs gets too entrenched in the titans in favour of ignoring vic’s spot on the team, so this would be a good counter balance
but more than that — i want roy to know that babs and dinah are fucking (engaging in ethical non monogamy) and i want dinah and babs to know that roy knows that they’re fucking (engaging in ethical non monogamy) and i want there to be a series of very awkward brunch dates with dick where everyone talks very loudly at each other and no one makes eye contact

First << prev < Season 3 Ok, so I got an anon about a Batfam Actor AU and now I can't get it out of my head. I'll probably make this multiple parts or something, but I'll go season by season probably.
Before this season premiered, there was probably a justice league movie. Just an FYI. Thus, the trinity was formed. And now the fans of the show haa as be to fight with the movie fans on ship wars.
Season three is a lot of...shenannigains. It's kinda just the epitome of Golden Age comics. Ya know?
Since they introduced Dick as a sidekick for Batman, and saw how well received he was by audiences, sidekicks were introduced to the other Hero shows on the network
There’s a Wonderwoman cameo, and the wonder twins are born. Oh! And Uncle Clark.
Throughout the season there’s a scarily heavy focus on Harvey, and it has the audience on their toes, and they think he’s gonna die, but at the end of the season he gets hit in the face with acid, and the Bruharvy edits skyrocket.
Selena has less screen time because she punched the interviewer, so the Directors bring back Talia as a main love interest. But Bruce and Selena are still dating.
At the season premiere, all the sidekicks— Dick, Donna, Roy, Wally, and Garth— are hangin out with each other and the internet BEGS for more interactions between all of them.
Dick doesn’t do as many interviews as he did the season before. But, he’s starting to feel the pressure.
It’s obvious that Selena is missing during most interviews too, but the three of them (Bruce, Talia, and Harvey) still make the best interview moments.
Spill the Tea, with Alfred, Ras, and Gordon, is about the prank Dick played on Bruce and Clark by tying their capes together. Another highlight was Donna braiding Dicks hair. Also, this time, all three of them are asked how they make their tea, and both Alfred and Ras are horrified by Jim.

So.. what's the deal with the cartoon network crossover? 👀
I'm glad you sent an ask I was originally going to make a separate post lol
The AU spawned from wanting to do my own take on FusionFall, which then became a fighting game, then the gameplay was reworked into an original idea and the designs of the CN characters were reworked into a comic. Since it started as a fighter that meant I had planned out separate stages for each franchise, as opposed to one uniform setting such as CN City or the popular shared school au. The fighter didn't really have a plot I just came up with the explanation that the kids are all KND (or TeenND) members and were just having a sparing match and the adult characters were somehow targets or smth. Now the current iteration is most the characters are just on the same planet and become involved in some way or another (probably the KND still). The reoccurring theme is just trying to find people like you.
The most clear idea I've had is between PPG and Ben 10; the girls are known around the world and Ben (and Gwen) feeling lonely want to meet other super hero kids their age. Grandpa Max reminds them they are still strangers and that Ben and Gwen have to keep their identities secret, but does some research into the girls and Professor Utonium and recognizes how he still value's their privacy. Max then tries to get in contact with Utonium to see if getting the kids together would even be a good idea. Utonium himself also recognizes the girls have tried to find other super hero kids to hang out with, but both he and Max spend like a year over email trying to see if they can even trust each other lmao. Eventually after the two meet up (and Max knows he can trust them with the alien thing) they agree to set up a playdate and the focus then moves to the kids as they interact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ben and Gwen are like uhhhh aged between the original and Alien Force. Kevin is also there but I want to write a different intro for him that involves Gwen more.
The girls I've pictured as this; Blossom handles the fame best of the 3 and also is the best when it comes to the press while Buttercup and Blossom prefer to stand back. While she is good at being the ideal Powerpuff Girl, she has ambitions in the same science as her father and struggles to balance the two. Buttercup still enjoys the art of fighting the most, and goes on the most solo missions, but gets treated unfairly for her more masculine behavior and has to deal with fitting in with neither girls nor boys. Bubbles also has to deal with unfair treatment by being undermined for being the most girlish (there is no winning) but lacks a hobby like the other two (though she has some artistic merit). She may be the loneliest of the three as a result. Although they all still share a good friend in Robin. Bubbles and Buttercup get along better than they did as kids, though Blossom doesn't want them to feel like she's ignoring the two.
For the sake of simplicity the ending of KND and the G:KND storyline with Nigel being shot into space is ignored. The KND as an organization is trying to expand the TND upon seeing the teen's potential for rebellion. They lack a way to regain old KND members back, so they go out trying to recruit teens while they wait for current KND members to just age up. Sector V was selected for TND and go out and try and recruit new members. The ideas I have for them involve the awkward wait between the V members going 12 -> 13 years and transitioning between jobs. My personal hc was that in the show at one point it's Kuki and Wally at 10, Nigel at 11, then Hoagie and Abby at 12, with Kuki being the youngest and Abby the oldest. During and after this transition phase they are sent out on recruitment missions which is where the crossover stuff comes in.
Hoagie is sent to see if either Dexter or Mandark is available. Mandark is a dick but Dexter get points knocked down for getting funding from the adult-run NASA. It turns into another ego battle between Dexter and Mandark while Hoagie has to deal with the two rich kids. Dee Dee is there to fuck with all 3 of them and is the one that gets recruited. Hoagie probably also treats this like a sports movie or smth.
Tumblr media
The Time Squad sometime in the future are homeschooling Otto, they try to get him socializing with kids his age during missions but think that he should be spending time with kids from his century. Otto has been researching not just history but what happens after his time as well. He wants to meet heroes when they were his age.
Tumblr media
I have A LOT of ideas for the Eds but most of it isn't crossover material. But I like the idea of them just accidentally walking into other shows, Courage or Foster's in particular.
Tumblr media
The world in this AU is basically only limited by shows with hugely conflicting lore. That's vague but that mostly means like, the Land of Ooo conflicts with most shows. So to justify AT it's like. An alternate Earth and somehow Finn finds his way to this one and loses his shit over other humans. While he's glad to find kids like him Jake worries that Finn may prefer this world to Ooo and that he may leave. Jake is all ready to come to terms with this and Finn is like dude what we have only been here for 5 hours.
Billy and Mandy are mostly antags like in the KND crossover. I have a super vague idea for Billy somehow giving up Grim to other kids and they keep trading him for like a corn chip, and while other toon guys go on adventures with the reaper, Mandy drags Billy with her to get Grim back. At some point Numbuh 1 meets the Regular Show crew I forgot to draw and his world view is shattered. Gumball and Darwin are there. Etc.
I'd probably prioritize the first PPG and Ben 10 story as the clearest I got rn. But otherwise I'd love to see other people's crossover stuff and just old CN or cartoons in general.

More teevee:
MISS SHERLOCK (2018): Frustratingly scattershot gender-flipped Japanese pastiche, about an eccentric consulting detective (Yūko Takeuchi) and her reluctant roommate, Dr. Tachibana Wato ("Wato-san," played by Shihori Kanjiya), solving bizarre mysteries in present-day Tokyo. Conceptually, it's a sound modernization with a delightful lead and some clever variations on the Holmes canon, but the execution too often falls short, with credibility-straining plots, herky-jerky pacing, and bursts of incongruously mean violence even in episodes that start off quite light. Sadly, Takeuchi's death in 2020 made the finale more final, and much sadder, than it was probably intended to be. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Not explicitly, but it's difficult to read Sherlock as anything else, and the level of old-fashioned gay-baiting is extremely high. VERDICT: Worth a look for Takeuchi, but not nearly as good as it should have been, and the influence of BBC SHERLOCK is painfully apparent.
MOBLAND (2025- ): A big-name cast flounders in an unrewarding gangster drama about mob fixer Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy, looking like he desperately needs a Vitamin B shot), who keeps things tidy for aging Irish mob patriarch Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan), suddenly facing a mob war fomented by Con's worthless chav grandson Eddie (Anson Boon) and encouraged by Conrad's ruthless wife Maeve (Helen Mirren, whose fake Irish brogue feels hate-crimey). Executive-produced by Guy Ritchie, the early episodes suggest yet another attempt to recapture the deadpan tone of Ritchie's early films, but it turns grim (and gruesome) as the story labors to get to the point. There's no spark at all, and all the characters are far too repellent to sustain such a self-serious approach. The brutality directed towards many of the female characters in the finale is also very off-putting. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Not to speak of. VERDICT: Everyone involved is too old for this shit. Just watch Mirren's much earlier, much better turn in THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY (which was also Brosnan's first feature). CWs apply for repeated references to CSA and incest, a scene where a character gets hacked to death with a chainsaw, and Emmett Scanlan.
NOTORIOUS (2016): Weak behind-the-scenes news drama about feisty cable news producer Julia George (Piper Perabo) and her headline-manipulating arrangement with defense attorney Jake Gregorian (Daniel Sunjata), both inspired by real people. Even allowing for the familiar format, it feels like a warmed-over '90s relic, with bland network TV plots punctuated by bursts of offensive liberal racism. Perabo is surprisingly insufferable throughout, seemingly incapable of any expression other than a pout or a sneer. Kate Jennings Grant is more fun as Julia's snarky, cougarish star anchor Louise Herrick, but Louise's scenes lean uncomfortably hard on the presumption that it can't really be sexual harassment if the offender is hot and a woman. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Not one. VERDICT: Mostly very blah. CWs apply for references to IPV, sexual assault, and incest.
OVERCOMPENSATING (2025): Sporadically amusing but sloppy and obnoxious Benito Skinner comedy — strongly reminscent of Mindy Kaling's recent HBO Max series THE SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS, but with more men — about gay college freshman Benny (Skinner), who manages to make his being closeted everyone else's problem, bludgeoning his hapless new bestie Carmen (Wally Baram), sometimes literally, in his determination to pose as a boorish straight bro. Meanwhile, Carmen hooks up with the even more boorish boyfriend (Adam DiMarco) of Benny's bitchy older sister Grace (Mary Beth Barone), who may be closeted herself. All of the male characters are completely insufferable, particularly Benny, who's way out of line 90 percent of the time for reasons the narrative never manages to justify. Executive producer Charli XCX has an unsympathetic guest appearance as herself, and Desiree Akhavan (who directed a few episodes) also pops up briefly. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Yes. VERDICT: THE SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS is not a great show, but it's better than this.
WATSON (2025– ): HOUSE meets Holmes in a painfully contrived modern-dress pastiche starring Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, a brilliant geneticist who founds a cutting-edge specialty clinic (in Pittsburgh, for no good reason) using a legacy from Sherlock Holmes, who allegedly died when he, Watson, and Moriarty all went over the Reichenbach Falls. As Watson struggles with a traumatic brain injury and antagonizes his boss and soon-to-be ex-wife Mary Morstan (Rochelle Aytes), he and his team of maverick specialists solve bizarre medical mysteries. However, Moriarty has also survived, and is now blackmailing Watson's right-hand man Shinwell (Ritchie Coster). Never stops feeling like two terrible high-concept shows clumsily spliced together, and its preposterous medical plots are overshadowed by the still-unresolved question of if and when Holmes himself will resurface (as anyone familiar with the characters has every reason to assume he eventually will). It can't even get by on Chestnut's hunky charisma because the show's Watson is an incredibly arrogant prick — the ways he harasses and stalks Mary to punish her for divorcing him are especially infuriating. Of Watson's team, only Ingrid (Eve Harlow) and Sasha (Inga Schlingmann) are remotely interesting; Peter Mark Kendall drives up the show's already high cringe factor in an agonizing dual role as rival twin brothers, one a "functional medicine" quack. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Mary is bisexual. VERDICT: Jarringly bad even if your expectations are low — American TV drama at its worst. Stick with ELEMENTARY.

❛ you ever look around and think hey! how the hell did i get here? ❜ given their current circumstances, it's an achingly casual question from nightwing. not that it's necessarily out of place - at least not when it comes to wally. ❛ it's like one minute you're a kid, backflipping around in spandex, and the next you're -- well, no, okay, bad example. ❜
the tunnel network seems to stretch on for miles, and dick appreciates that wally's keeping pace with him. between the darkness and the smell, he thinks he'd go insane if he was on his own. ❛ i'd suggest i spy but i think we'd run out of options pretty quick, huh? ❜

Lost Boy
Warning!! There's references to abuse of a minor in this, along with injuries as a result of the abuse described. Please be careful reading or skip entirely!
(The title is in reference to Peter Pan and Ruth B's song! The Mc is female coded!)
Wally Darling & Reader.
You're visiting your elderly neighbor and she's found some old tapes from her cartoon collection! An old children's show called Welcome Home.
"Oh, what perfect timing you have, Dear!" Grams exclaims as you nervously peak into her apartment from the door. "Come in, come in! I'm sure this is something you'll be interested in!"
You do, quietly shutting the door behind yourself and shuffling over to the kind of smaller box your elderly neighbor is looking through.
Grams isn't your actual grandma, you've never met either of your actual grandparents from either side of your family. Though you can't say you've met too many people in your short five years on this planet to begin with. But Grams just told you to call her that, since saying her actual name was proving difficult for you. She's a sweet old lady, who lets you stay for days on end in her apartment when things in yours are getting a bit too much. Says you remind her of her own kids and grandkids in every way except personality. Mostly.
She actually enjoys having you around, unlike your parents.
"This is all from an old show that was on back in the 70s," Grams tells you, pulling some things out of the box. You lean on the arm of the couch to get a peak, seeing it's a few old VHS tapes. A lot of Grams' cartoons are recorded on VHS though, so it's not much of a surprise. "I liked watching it with my kids when they were just young babies. I'd say my oldest was even younger than you when the show first started airing. I had forgotten all about it!"
You know Grams likes cartoons, her hobby as she tells you. She has a lot of cartoons recorded on VHS tapes, which she first got into so she could record shows for her kids. She has old Winnie the Pooh cartoons, Looney Tunes, Mickey Mouse shorts and the House of Mouse, Tom and Jerry, Josie and the Pussycats, old Betty Boop cartoons, the retro My Little Pony ones, Scooby Doo, The Powerpuff Girls, and just about any oldie cartoons you can think of. She's apparently gotten some off of some network called Boomerang, the Hanna-Barbera cartoons. She's also collected some of the stuff they'd sell for them over the years, toys and mugs mostly.
She's watched some of the newer cartoons too and said she's found quite a few of them rather entertaining and good, but the oldies will always hold a special place in her old heart.
It's surprising she'd forget about a cartoon with how much she loves them.
You lean a bit closer to peak into what else is in the box, but jump back when Grams looks over at you again.
"Would you like to watch this today?" She asks. You timidly nod, Grams shakily standing up with the help of the couch's arm. You come around and climb onto the couch while she puts the VHS into the player.
You glance towards the box in curiosity, but quickly look away again while sitting up straight. Grams shuffles back to the couch, a kind grin on her face as she settles on the couch again. The VCR whirs a familiar comforting sound you've really begun to associate with this apartment that helps you relax just a bit more.
The show's title card fades onto the screen once the "snow" disappears, bright and colorful and inviting. The show's called... "Welcome Home" apparently, spelled in bright bubbly letters. The title card fades, the view then panning down to a house with eyes in the window and someone stepping out of the house.
"Hello, Neighbor," a guy with yellow skin, big blue hair, and lidded eyes greets, a warm smile on his face. His voice is soothing to you as well, helping you relax just a bit more.
You're... a bit enraptured by the colorful cast and the calm nature of the first character, watching the episode with rapt attention. This episode is about Sally, the one shaped like the sun, putting on a performance with everyone else and it not exactly going as she planned it. It's... fun!
All too soon the episode ends though, much to your disappointment. But you try not to let that show. Grams still grins at you though, chuckling just a bit.
"Did you like it?" She asks. You're hesitant to say you did, even if you know Grams wouldn't make fun of you for it or stop letting you watch the show if you did. You force yourself to nod, making Grams smile even wider. "Well, then I say we watch all the episodes I've got in my collection. Doesn't that sound fun? I think I've got some snacks we can munch on while we do. I can make some popcorn too!"
Grams gets up again and hobbles towards the adjacent kitchen, beginning to rummage through the cupboards in there. She calls your name after a second.
"Could you come in here and help me carry everything out, Dear?" She asks. You jump up to help her, taking the various bowls and bags she hands you. "What would you like to drink, Dear? I've got apple juice, lemonade, and milk. Oh, I might need to call up Ashley later to get me some more groceries."
"Apple," you answer, a little quieter than you meant to. You say it again louder, knowing that Grams' hearing isn't as good as it used to be. In her words that is.
"Alright. Apple juice it is," Grams nods, pouring a cup for you. You take the snacks out to the coffee table, setting it all down while Grams comes back in with two cups of juice. She sets the cups down, switches the VHS tape after rewinding it, and then settles down on the couch again to watch another episode.
She continuously hands you treats while watching as many episodes as you both can well into the night. But she eventually has to turn in for the night, getting you a nice soft pink quilt to cuddle underneath on the couch.
"So, who was your favorite character?" Grams asks, pulling your hair up into a bun for you before heading to bed.
"....I like Wally. He's soft," you replay, quietly. You figure you don't sound very confident in those statements, you don't think you did.
"I think you two would get along very well," Grams nods, backing up. She heads for the box, looking around inside of it. "I always liked Julie myself when I first watched it so many years ago."
She turns again when she seemingly finds whatever she was looking for. It turns out to be a toy of the titular character himself, with that soft grin and everything. Old looking, a bit worn, but still in good shape.
"Here. I'm sure he'd be happy to keep you company tonight," Grams grins, you hesitantly reaching for the doll. She doesn't pull him back and lets you pull him into your lap, hugging him tight to your chest. "There, he looks happier already. Your hugs are a lot warmer than a dusty old box."
You giggle a little, hiding your smile behind Wally's hairdo.
Grams then heads into her bedroom, leaving the kitchen light on for you. You lay down on the couch, cuddling the Wally doll under the cover of the cute white and pink quilt. Looking down at the plush, you run your fingers over the soft sweater it's wearing, looking up again at the soft cat-like smile of the character.
You let out a little squeaky hum, hugging the toy closer to yourself while nuzzling into the pillow. You fall into a pleasant, restful sleep for once. Belly full and, while you still ache all over, content.
_____
"Hey, Grandma. I got your groceries."
You jump, startled from your focus on the Welcome Home episode playing on the TV to look over at the woman walking in through the front door. She pauses just for a second at the sight of you, but then goes and puts the reusable cloth bags on the counters and starts putting things away.
"Oh, thank you, Dear. Are you going to visit for a bit?" Grams asks, turning to look at the woman.
"Yeah, I will," Ashley confirms, nodding as she slides a box into one of the cabinets. Her curly hair bounces with the motions of her head, her leather jacket squeaking before she's sliding it off and tossing it over a chair.
She finishes putting things away before she's walking over and leaning against the back of the couch.
"I see the squirt is visiting again," she comments, looking down at you. You hug the Wally toy Grams let you keep a bit tighter. Ashley just ruffles up your hair. "Nice to see you again."
She then plops down in a chair and turns her attention to the TV.
"What're you two watching this time?" She sends a confused and curious look to the TV at the completely unfamiliar characters on it.
"An old show I nearly completely forgot about. I used to watch it with your mother and uncles all the time when they were just kids," Grams replies, looking back at the TV herself. She motions to you, grinning easily. "She's been completely taken by it, and we had more episodes to watch."
"Huh, neat," Ashley hums, tilting her head a bit more. "Does the little yellow guy always stare at the screen like that?"
"He's often looking at the screen, yes," Grams nods, looking back at the TV. "He's the one that interacts with the audience the most."
"I see." Ashley still doesn't look very impressed, if anything she looks a little disturbed. You don't mind it, returning to the colorful characters on the TV.
Ashley stays for a while that night, only getting up to grab things for Grams. But later she goes into the kitchen to make dinner, Grams getting up to head into the bathroom for a moment. That leaves you with only the doll and the TV.
You look between the bathroom and kitchen for a moment to make sure the adults are out of sight, breathing a sigh of relief once you notice they are. You set the doll aside, then pull up your shirt with a bit of a wince. You carefully check the big bruise on your ribs, then the cloth you taped on your side to soak up the blood from the cut underneath it.
Your side really hurts when you move, but you're really sore all over anyway.
You quickly pull your shirt down again at the sound of footsteps, grabbing the Wally plush and looking back at the TV again. You blink when you see Wally frozen on the screen, staring, but then the episode resumes like normal.
"Oh," Ashley hums, pausing right behind the couch. "I thought the episode had stopped for some reason, since the sound disappeared. Guess it worked itself out or something."
She turns and goes back to what she was doing, Grams coming out of the bathroom a moment later. The three of you have dinner in the living room, Mac'n'Cheese with cut up hotdogs. You eat yours quickly and gratefully take seconds when Ashley offers.
She has to leave eventually though, Grams going to bed and leaving you in the living room by yourself again. You let out a breath once everything is quiet and you can hear Grams snoring in the bedroom. You curl closer to the doll in your arms burying your nose into the side of the doll's head.
Your shoulders relax a bit more, sinking into the blanket and couch.
You really like it here, though you know you can't stay forever. And you do eventually have to go back to your parents' apartment, which you do after two more days in paradise and it's the same as before you left. But that's hardly a surprise.
You're excited to be back in Grams' apartment nearly a month later. She's left the Wally doll out for you to take and cuddle with, then puts on the Welcome Home show for you again while she does something else. You're grinning, excited to see it again.
There's a pause in the beginning. It takes a moment for Wally to come out of Home and he's staring wide eyed at the screen. But then the episode is playing as normal again. Even if it's one you've already seen, it still makes you smile. It still brings you the same joy as when you first saw it.
The neighbors are so nice. It..... Home looks very nice and the neighbors all seem to care about each other. You... You think... it'd be nice to be in the neighborhood with them, to play with them and everything. Though sometimes they're a bit loud for your tastes. It still feels... like a warm place to be you think, where you wouldn't get hurt and wouldn't have to hear your parents yelling at you.
Maybe you wouldn't hurt as much there.
"I have to go out today, Dear," Grams says, making you jump. "Would you like to come along?"
You sink into the couch.
"No? Alright. I showed you how to run the VCR, didn't I?" She asks, shrugging a coat on. You nod. "And the phone?"
Another nod.
"Alright then. You can keep watching cartoons here, alright? Call if anything happens," Grams says. You nod in response. You wait a few minutes after the door closes to jump up and head towards the bathroom. You look through the cabinets for some band-aids.
You sit on the couch again, pulling off your shirt to look at the cut. You have to pull the tape and cloth off, wincing the entire time. But the bleeding's stopped, so you don't need the cloth anymore.
You find some of those wipes Grams says is for cleaning wounds in with the band-aids. You remember those hurting a lot, but Grams says they're necessary for the healing process. The cut on your side was healing before, but it's been reopened every time before it could.
Reluctantly, you open one of the packages and swipe it over the cut. No matter how much it makes you whimper and tears threaten your eyes, you do as Grams did and swipe it a few more times. Then you place a line of band-aids over the cut. It makes you feel bad to use so many, but Grams told you it was important to cover the whole thing.
You wince as you finish the job, then look over all the bruises on yourself. Your torso and arms are more black and blue than anything else, your skin nearly wrapping around your ribs. It makes you sniffle a bit. You clean up after yourself, then shakily sit back on the couch and hug the Wally doll again.
Your eyes look up at the TV again, seeing it's paused. You blink, confused for a moment. Wally's just staring at the screen, motionlessly, the other neighbors doing the exact same as him. All like you had hit pause on the remote, but...... you don't remember doing that. Nor do you remember anyone but Wally ever looking at the screen like that, like he can see straight through it at you.
There's a pause for a moment. Then....
"Hello, Neighbor," Wally says, much like he does at the beginning of an episode. You blink. "Poppy wants to know if you're alright. You look.... hurt."
You nod slowly, still confused.
"Good! If you're hurt, it's always important to have someone you trust look over it. Like we do with Poppy," Wally continues. You bury your nose into the Wally doll, but nod slowly.
The last time you showed anyone the bruises, it didn't end well though. Your parents just got even more angry.
Apparently the puppet could see some type of conflict or reluctance on your face.
"Would you like Poppy to look at your boo-boos, Neighbor? You could play with us after," Wally offers, turning to completely face the screen. He's smiling, his eyes are wider than you're used to seeing. "We can make sure you're all better and everyone would love to officially meet you."
You blink a couple of times, tilting your head.
"It'll be lots of fun," Wally assures, giving you a warm look. "The neighborhood is always safe and fun."
You look back towards the door, then at the TV again. After a moment of thinking about the offer, you nod. Wally's grin seems to widen, happy.
"Welcome Home."
_____
Grams sighs as she finds her apartment empty when she gets back. But the TV was turned off and everything's neat and tidy.
"I suppose she wasn't able to stick around for long this time," Grams says, a bit disappointed. "I do hope Ashley is able to help that poor girl before anything happens."
Grams goes about putting away the tapes and the blanket she keeps specially for when you come around. They'll be ready for you the next time you come back, whenever that'll be. She just hopes you come back soon.

Medea Rants - CARTOONS!!!
Tumblr media
I’m taking a break from writing up anime reviews to talk about some news that dropped a few weeks ago that has my mind swarming with so much thought.
A few weeks ago, I’m scrolling through Twitter…I’m still not calling it by its other name and randomly came across this news about a new television channel coming. MeTV Toons. The minute-long video teased all of the old cartoons I used to love watching and still love watching.
youtube
The Flintstones, Scooby Doo, Top Cat, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Underdog, Wally Gator, 2 Stupid Dogs, Johnny Quest, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Magilla Gorilla, Speed Racer, Freakazoid, Snagglepuss, Looney Tunes, Popeye, Droopy, Betty Boop, and so, so, so, so, SOOOOOO MUCH MORE!
HISTORY ABOUT METV: Depending on where you live, you might get a combination of different channels in your cable package. MeTV, Antenna TV, Cozi, Catchy Comedy, Get TV, Rewind, etc. Ever since their existence I’ve been drawn to both MeTV and Catchy Comedy (formerly known as Decades). MeTV has been known to play programming ranging from the 1940s to the 1980s give-or-take. It’s like what TV Land used to be like before becoming the MASH and Raymond network. Me personally, I’m usually watching The Three Stooges or All in the Family.
Tumblr media
In recent years, MeTV has decided to play cartoons. Not a lot, but enough to gain attention. Ever since they started this, every Saturday morning I’m up watching the cartoons. Because I’m still used to the Saturday morning cartoon setup before it died. Mostly, this consists of Popeye, Tom & Jerry, Woody Woodpecker, and Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes. On Sundays, they play The Flintstones and Jetsons. During the week, they also aired a show called, “Toon In With ME”. This was an hour-long program where the hosts would play the short cartoons I just mentioned above. I actually only watch this on rare occasions since it always airs when I’m heading off to work. Believe it or not, this program has been a huge hit. So, it’s no surprise that the hosts announced MeTV Toons on their program.
Tumblr media
THE CONCEPT OF A 24/7 CARTOON CHANNEL: Cartoon Network and Boomerang. Y’all remember this, right? Back when Cartoon Network first started, it had all of the old cartoons from back in the day. But then, they started doing their own original programming. And that was okay, because we got Cartoon Planet and Space Ghost Coast to Coast out of the deal. Then we got original programming from the Cartoon, Cartoon era. And that was okay, because we got shows like Courage, Billy and Mandy, Powerpuff Girls, and Dexter out of the deal. But then, all of the older cartoons started disappearing and we get some mediocre cartoons out of the deal. Not okay! But also, we got things like Toonami and Adult Swim. So…I’m stuck here.
That’s when Boomerang came in! And that’s all I can tell you because I never got Boomerang in my cable package. BECAUSE XFINITY SUCKS! Apparently, in the early 2000s, all of those older cartoons I’ve mentioned before migrated to the Boomerang channel. It so would have been nice to watch that. I’m still disgruntled about that whole thing. Time passes and both of these channels are unrecognizable. Fast-forward to the 2010’s, Cartoon Network is playing some garbage called Teen Titans GO and Boomerang mostly plays…I don’t know. I just know it wasn’t the old cartoons. Just rehashes. I only came across it if it was playing in the breakroom at work since we had Dish there. Not going to complain that they were playing Pokemon and it just happened to have Tracey on that day.
YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE SAFE FROM MY TRACEY OBSESSION HERE! Think again.
Mwahahahaha!
Both channels have become shells of their former selves. And if you want to know the truth, I only watch Cartoon Network for Adult Swim and Toonami. That’s it!
Now that MeTV is doing its own 24/7 cartoon channel, I have so many thoughts in my head. Hopes and dreams, crushing reality thoughts, worry, and so much more. Most of all, I just want to actually see it with my own eyes. I don’t want to relive being 12 years old and seeing my favorite shows plucked off the air and put on a channel that I don’t even get. That’s not cool. I’m too old to be going through emotions I felt at the start of puberty. So, Xfinity! Do a sister a favor and hand over the goods. And MeTV, learn from the past mistakes of Boomerang and Cartoon Network. No original programming! Unless it’s something like Toon in With ME, none of that! Leave that shit to Cartoon Network and Max. And Teen Titans in any capacity must be BANNED! It’s for the greater good.
With that said, here are some scattered thoughts I have with the upcoming MeTV Toons channel.
Tumblr media
UNDERDOG: I want to see Underdog. Plain and simple. Not that shitty-ass, bull-shit, pile of Taco Bell toilet leave-behinds movie that Disney made back in 2007. I. WANT. UNDERDOG. The show! Wally Cox saying, “There’s no need to fear, Underdog is here”. THAT! I WANT THAT! I want to see Underdog, Sweet Polly Purebread, Riff Raff, Mooch, Tap-Tap the Chisler, Batty Man, O.J. Squeeze, Rudy Guiliani’s doppleganger Simon Barsinister, Cad, I want to see everyone!
I ain’t fucking around here. Put Underdog on and LEAVE IT THERE ON THE SCHEDULE. Don’t be fucking with me and having it on for one day and then I never see it again. PLAY IT!
Tumblr media
Sorry to get so postal here. But Underdog is my all-time favorite older cartoon. And as you can see by my collection of goodies here, I am a fan.
TIME-STAMP: Seeing all of these old cartoons finally getting a home, you have to ask what’s the cut off of how old the cartoon must be? I seriously would have been fine with them cutting things off at 1989. But then I see surprising entries like 2 Stupid Dogs, Freakazoid, and the cartoon series based off the movie that was based off the comic, The Mask. Wow, that certainly takes me back. Okay, perfect! All of the cartoons played here don’t go past the millennium threshold. This, I can live with. But then…
Tumblr media
Xiaolin Showdown too?! Okay, this one was obviously not made in the 90s as it ran on KidsWB from 2003 to 2006. I’m a little excited as it does make me optimistic for more KidsWB programs. But it does make me a little suspicious seeing this one red herring. Nothing against the show at all, I just don’t trust any program after 1999 when you’re seeing the line-up I’m seeing. If it were me, the cut-off time should be this.
Tumblr media
This is Christopher Walken dancing in the Fatboy Slim video Weapon of Choice. When this came out should be the cut-off point for any cartoon made to be put on this channel. With Xiaolin Showdown being the exception.
Tumblr media
MOVIES: A good idea that Cartoon Network used to do on Saturday nights was play movies. Believe it or not, there are good cartoon movies that were made by people not affiliated with the Disney corporation. Why not do so here? A lot of Don Bluth’s movies used to play like An American Tail, Thumbalina, and Secret of NIHM used to play. Let’s do it here! How about some trippy-ass 60s and 70s movies like Gay Pur-ree and Raggedy Ann and Andy: A Musical Adventure?! A Boy Named Charlie Brown! Yes, do it! MeTV plays that one and Snoopy Come Home during Christmas time, this would be perfect. Hell, add the other two Charlie Brown movies here too. The Chipmunk Adventure! Yes, please!
A lot of the cartoons already on the docket for MeTV Toons have movies. The Jetsons have their own movie. Just stop before you see The Jetsons with the WWE. Tom and Jerry had a movie come out in the 90s. It was weird, but it was at least original. Just stop before you see Tom and Jerry crashing movie classics. Scooby Doo has a plethora of movies. I know the Boo Brothers and the Ghoul School movie has Scrappy Doo, but those were still solid features. Just stop when you see any movie that aired after Y2K. The Flintstones had many that have been made between the 60s and the 90s. This includes a musical, a cross-over, a wedding, and even Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm becoming parents. Seeing all the pictures on the MeTV Toons website put up Fred and Bamm-Bamm from the Christmas Carol movie. So, that gives me hope. Again, just don’t play anything made after 2000.
While you’re at it, try and see if you can get the rights to play The Brave Little Toaster. I promised I wouldn’t bring up anything Disney here, but this movie is very much a Disney film and yet, five years later is still not on Disney+. That’s a fucking crime. Somebody needs to play that classic.
Tumblr media
ANIME ON METV TOONS: With this announcement, we saw one of the characters prominently featured in the teasers was Speed Racer. That is definitely an anime despite what we all thought back in the day when we first saw it. Should MeTV stop right there and just keep it with Speed Racer? Believe it or not, I say yes. Shocking, yes. There are so many anime series that could be added to MeTV Toons to bring back other kinds of nostalgia. MeTV Toons is playing shows that came from the KidsWB time. What played back then? Pokemon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Yu-Gi-Oh! There are shows from FOX Kids time too. What was a show that played there? Digimon! And let’s not forget the Toonami classics like Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Gundam, and Tenchi Muyo. Would love the fuck out of that, but would also feel like it’d be too much and also hard to get as some of the anime companies are hard to negotiate with. Plus, Cartoon Network is actually bringing DBZ and Sailor Moon back.
But if they do put Pokemon on the schedule, I won’t be mad about that.
Tumblr media
ADULT PROGRAMMING: I’m not saying to go full-on Adult Swim. Also, no on Squidbillies. I just like this picture. But some adult programming wouldn’t hurt. Excluded would have to be anything owned by Disney/FOX or Paramount. So, as much as I love shows like Daria and The Simpsons, NO! With that said, there are several shows worthy enough to be given a new home. Let’s start with Duckman! No? How about The Critic? If not that, how about Bob and Margaret? Nobody has seen this show for 20 years. Let’s make this happen. How about the short-lived cartoons that aired in the late 90s/early 2000s? The Oblongs, Baby Blues, Mission Hill, and…I hesitate even saying this one, Dilbert. Hesitation because the creator of Dilbert is a bit of a fuck-hole. But the show is okay! Let’s not go too far with adult animation. Fritz the Cat would be too far. And don’t even think about Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon. That’s a war crime in and of itself!
Tumblr media
CONTROVERSIAL CARTOONS: Make no mistake about it, there are some cartoons that if made today would be cancelled by all kinds of groups. I’m kind of standing in this fork in the road wondering if it should air or not. Obviously the infamous “Banned Eleven” from Looney Tunes should remain that way and for good reason. But…two cartoons do come to mind and why people would find issue with it. First, is Johnny Bravo. You realize that Cartoon Network is doing it’s Checkered Past block and not once did it put Johnny Bravo on there. I think it’s the fact that he’s a womanizer. Like a human Pepe Le Pew! I can see MeTV Toons carrying Johnny Bravo as their parent channel does play Pepe Le Pew cartoons. The other cartoon I’ll mention might not get a warm welcome.
Tumblr media
And it’s Batfink! The superhero bat with wings of steel. He’s Batfink! I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved watching Batfink when it used to air on the short-lived Nickelodeon show, Weinerville. There’s just one itty-bitty, little, tiny thing…okay, it’s a fucking big crater. Batfink’s assistant, Karate. Yeah, that’s a collar-tug. Just look at him. Just listen to him. I can hear every anus clamp shut with this. The good thing about channels like Catchy and MeTV, they do put up disclaimers if they’re about to play something that could be seen as offensive.
HOPES FOR THE LOST MEDIA: I know I have a lot of treasured classics on VHS. Damn shame my old TV/VCR died last year. If you’re wondering how old I am, I’m this old.
Tumblr media
I am (this) Disney Black-Diamond logo old. Moving on!
Seeing that this channel is actually bringing The Mask to it’s line-up gives me hope for other pieces of lost media from back in the day. Shows that aren’t on a streaming service, shows that never got a DVD release, and shows you can only find through old VHS copies. From Cartoon Network, there’s Cartoon Planet and all of the cartoons played on O Canada and What A Cartoon Show. From KidsWB, it would be a lot of the short-lived series like Detention, Histeria, and Generation O. And as for FOX Kids, there’s Life With Louie, Peter Pan & the Pirates, and Eek! The Cat.
Hey Medea, aren’t you forgetting the bad side to this? Angela Anaconda ring a bell?
Tumblr media
Oh shit. That’s right. We also do run the risk of seeing things like Mega Babies and Angela Anaconda again. I guess this is a take the good with the bad.
AND FINALLY, SHOWS THAT WOULD BE AWESOME TO SEE AGAIN: Yes, what the website has given us has so many twists and surprises. So, I’m going to list off all the cartoons I didn’t see on the teaser and website. Here’s hoping they’ll get another chance to be seen.
The Tick Batman Beyond Time Squad Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law Count Duckula Gerald McBoing-Boing Dudley Do-Right The Banana Splits Bobby’s World Madeline Pee Wee’s Playhouse Camp Candy Static Shock Tennessee Tuxedo Earthworm Jim The Addams Family Hong Kong Phooey The Littles Space Ghost Coast to Coast/Cartoon Planet Life With Louie Alvin and the Chipmunks Sabrina the Animated Series Every property of Charlie Brown and Snoopy (fuck Apple TV+) Gumby Inch High Private Eye The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog/Sonic Underground Commander McBragg
I think I got everything out of my system. Will all of my hopes and wishes come true with the upcoming MeTV Toons. Hell no! But it’ll be nice if one or two of these happen.

Ideas for your Undersiders boarding school AU, maybe?
Armsmaster as Mr. Wallis - the computer science teacher (he also takes care of most IT problems) that's always trying to catchem doing something illegal and get them expelled (fired in Rachel's case). He gets fired after the Undersiders find out that he put cameras everywhere (in an effort to catch them), even in their dorm rooms or the school toilets - don't know.
Headmistress Piggot
Hannah the American history teacher, she has eidetic memory and a special interest in weapons (she can name you the name, model and date of any gun you show her), maybe she also established a MMA club
Theresa Richter - CEO of Dragon cyber security (medium sized cyber security firm that helps the school with their network security). First met Colin while setting up the school's servers and WiFi network systems.
Battery and Assault - two PE teachers? And Rory Christner the rising baseball star that had to become a PE teachers assistant after he got caught doping.
Dauntless the arts and crafts teacher and amature video game designer? . Colin is very salty that Shawn's roguelike won last year's game jam, while his metroidvenia game got second place.
Amy Dallon - normal student at the school with an O- blood type. The hospital of the small town near the school lost their whole supply of O- blood last year, so she goes as often as she can to donate.
Thomas Calvert trying to become the headmaster so that he can approve the contract with a specific construction company (that he secretly owns) for very expensive upgrades to the school's campus
ily anon...
vicky and amy could be going there together. i assume vicky would be on the basketball team. she gets into a lot of fights and amy patches her up because she wants to be a doctor.
truly obsessed. if ppl love it this much i can write it

Week 4: Let's Do the Causal Loop Again
Tumblr media
We're settling into a groove here with all of this season's shows now premiered and I feel like I'm starting to get enough of a feel of each to decide which I like and which I don't beyond the context of an individual episode.
This is part of a project where I watch The WB and UPN on a 30 year delay. This is crossposted from my website, where you can find an interactive schedule for both networks, including where you can watch these shows today.
Monday January 30, 1995 Star Trek: Voyager S1E04: "Time and Again" - 8 PM on UPN
Voyager is in some ways to more difficult to write about here since I've seen it before. Unless an episode is particularly good or particularly bad, it feels like there's not a whole lot to say except for "that's a Voyager episode."
I think this week's was decent, though I do find it interesting that two of Voyager's first three episodes involve a causal loop. I think the loop here is somewhat more interesting than last week's, but there's much less character work here, so the episode as a whole is probably weaker.
Platypus Man E02: "9½ Days" - 9 PM on UPN
After being criticized in the bedroom as "conventional" by the new woman he's dating, Richard has a lot of the kinkiest sex 90s broadcast television can depict. Meanwhile, Paige's overbearing parents are in town, and she pretends to be engaged to Richard to get them off her back about marriage. The two plots combine for a lot of Paige's parents finding Richard in compromising situations.
Overall, a better episode than last week, but this still feels like a replacement-level sitcom. Last week, I thought this felt like Kirkland-brand Seinfeld, but based on the scenes of Richard in the confession booth, I guess that makes this [1] Wegman's-brand Seinfeld?
Pig Sty E02: "Beauty & the Beasts" - 9:30 PM on UPN
Tess's apartment is broken into, and while the boys are checking it out, Randy finds what he thinks is her diary. He attempts to use it to get with her, but it turns out it's her twelve-year-old sister's. My main feeling on this show so far is that I find pretty much all of the boys unpleasant and annoying.
Tuesday January 31, 1995 Marker E03: "Cloud Warriors" - 8 PM on UPN
After Pipeline finds a dead body while surfing, his grandmother tasks him with finding the killer [2] and enlists Richard's help via a marker given to her late husband. [3] Another decent episode and it's nice to see Gates McFadden actually get something to do.
The Watcher E03: "Heartburned" - 9 PM on UPN
Wednesday February 1, 1995 The Wayans Bros. S1E04: "Free Wally" - 8 PM on The WB
The Parent 'Hood S1E03: "Pizza Man" - 8:30 PM on The WB
Unhappily Ever After S1E04: "The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Fall" - 9 PM on The WB
The WB sitcoms all continued along their respective trajectories this week. The Wayans Bros is decent as Shawn and Lisa try and fail to get away from Marlon by spending an evening on a boat. While not quite as good as last week's episode, The Parent 'Hood remains the strongest of the bunch as Robert tries to teach Michael a lesson by working his job at a military-themed pizza parlor [4]. Unhappily Ever After remains my least favorite as Jennifer's quest to get money for a boob job causes her to find out her engagement ring is fake.
Muscle: "Episode 5" - 9:30 PM on The WB
That's it for this week!

*googles for grocery stores owned by catholics* ↩
There's a lot here about the spiritual beliefs of Pipeline's family, but I'm not sure whether any of it is authentic to any actual Native Hawaiian beliefs, or if this is a situation similar to Chakotay ↩
Apparently the very first marker Richard's father gave out ↩
The assistant manager (Gilbert Gottfried) turns out to be a former student of Robert's who he had failed ↩
