I feel like the excessive focus on food and preparing extravagant meals and iftars during Ramadan that you see a lot on social media is really missing the true meaning and purpose of the month

i'm not going to say anything about it, bc it is functionally not a huge deal, i have done my time on "getting called slurs online" bit years ago and i'm very into quietly blocking people now, but ohhh jeez. folks. you have GOT to read a wikipedia article before taking these things as fact, especially when it is coming from someone who openly declares themselves to be not a part of the culture that they're describing with such confidence.

Huge fan of the way everyone and their mom decided to comment on Netanyahu's threats towards Syria and what Israel's been trying to do in Syria, yet all these same people have nothing to say about Iran and hezbollah backing a sectarianism coup while helping pro assadist thugs target and attack 5 different Syrian hospitals and killing 10 people in a masjid after Maghreb during the month of Ramadan JUST last night. (Total number of martyrs is estimated to be over 60).

Interesting how Israel, which has always been a threat to the entire Middle East, is immediately discussed by everyone as it tries to stir up tensions in Syria to further its goals, but when Iran is on the same page with Israel regarding Syria, and does the exact same thing, only with more success, after it helped commit massacre 1 million Syrians and displace 14 million others, it's crickets.

So Ramadan has begun! I'm gonna have to resist the urge to watch Ninjago now... Kinda sad because I was so close to being able to watch season 3 by April 17 but to be honest, even if it wasn't Ramadan right now my exams are too close to the release date. I guess it's a good thing then; I need to study as much as possible.

today I am really fucking feeling the truth of two things at the same time: I can love and identify with my faith strongly, and have it form an essential part of both my history and the current way I move through the world and the communities I form; and I will still often be eternally on the outside of a lot of my religious community (whether it’s because I’ve been forced out or because I’ve chosen-but-it-wasn’t-really-a-choice to leave) and just have. really fundamental differences of opinion with most of the people there. and I’ve known this for most of my life, but the ‘fundamental’ bit is really hitting today.
