"Modern Slavery: Why Are We Still Working Ourselves to Death?"
In our modern world, the chains of the past have been replaced by the constraints of our daily routines. We labor extensively, often at the cost of our personal well-being and happiness. This relentless cycle prompts a critical question: Are we truly free, or have jobs and wages become the new instruments of bondage? Financial obligations now serve as the whip, driving us to maintain a grueling…

Remember when the mods of r/antiwork went on fox news and revealed that they were in fact the exact stereotype of a liberal that a conservative would make up, so people moved to r/workreform to shed that reputation and make it clear that the focus was on forming a movement to change labor practices and not on just not wanting to work?
I still follow that sub and 90% of the posts on there are a) calls for a general strike with four days notice, b) whining that Bernie would have won if the Democrats didn't rig the election, and c) reposting fascist propaganda that was couched in semi progressive terms.
Don't hold your breath waiting for the online labor movement to save us, is my point. In fact, maybe just go ahead and join the IRL labor movement in your city or state.
#look for your local labor federation#go to your city council meetings#find out what boards deal with labor issues and who's on them#run for local positions!#there is so so so much we can be doing#that isn't posting online about how we're totally about to kickstart the revolution

Nice try communists. We operate on #LEAN! You cut as many people as possible so everyone has to work harder to fill the gaps or work longer with no overtime pay and continually promise to hire more to fill the gaps and interview people from foreign countries that can be exploited. Cut costs everywhere to maximize stock value until the company gets bought and a new owner comes in and cuts costs by cutting people.
Folks, imagine what our lives would look like if we valued redundancy for the sake of safety and quality of life when it came to jobs. How much could we benefit if most single person positions were occupied by 2 folks instead?
2 pairs of eyes on every task instead of one. A single person taking their well-earned vacation or maybe tragically dying doesn't cause an entire department or business to come to a screeching halt.
On top of that, think of how many positions become that much less demanding and straining when you have someone to share the load with. Why should one person break their back for eight hours a day when 2 folks can labor moderately for 4 hours a day?
We need to start demanding a little redundancy. If a job can be accomolished by a team of 4, it should be accomplished by a team of 8. I'm sure this thought won't apply universally to every kind of job out there, but I think it still has some value.

The CEO to Worker Compensation Ratio is UNHEALTHY

A moment of reflection. I sat there in the waiting room. Another xray. Another appointment. A moment of silence. My son. The oldest this time. Routine. Specialists. Procedures. Treatments. What else ? What will the cost share be this time ? What bill can I cut out? How did this happen? Why did this happen? He laughs. We joke. He keeps shining. The hospitals are our second home. The doctors and nurses are an extension of our family. I'm always grateful. Truly. Some lunch. Back to school. Then it's my turn. My psych appointment. More meds ? Am I still me ? Who am I? Car ride. Gospel music. Prayers. Back to work. I'm exhausted. Oh fuck. Emails and voicemails galore. I'm in trouble. My mistake. Out of office messages are useless. #healthcarereform #medicareforall #mentalhealth #mentalhealthreform #workreform #mentalhealthdays #autism #adhd #autismmom #adhdmom #adhdparenting #autismparenting #bipolardiaries #BIPOLARCHRONICLES #encopresis #enuresis #education #socialwork #lcsw https://www.instagram.com/p/B9YbQ1NggBZ/?igshid=1kqfo9hkl3xbr

What’s going on with antiwork
Tldr: I've said months ago that r/antiwork is obv led by people that are supportive of the LITERAL meaning of antiwork not by people supportive of unionizing and etc. Reddit mods proved me right by embarrassing themselves live on television.
#what a good day for me to be just proven right#its not like the tomfoolery of reddit mods is unpredictable but still feels great#if you cared about the actual content of the subreddit it was deleted but people moved to r/workreform i believe

Have you seen the cringey interview that was done by a mod of r/antiworkon Fox News? He appeared wholly unprepared on camera. Dude decided it would be a great to appear in front of national television as every negative stereotype the public has of Redditors. He failed to decently answer easy questions that were thrown to him. The mods made a post before the interview to discuss the appearance and people commented how bad of an idea it is. The guy they selected was apparently the best that they can do since he said he'd appear to television before. r/antiwork has gone private due to this interview with r/workreform taking its place.
OK, I giggled a bit but then I dug into this and Christ. this is a very unfair summary of what happened and gave me the complete wrong idea.
just to confirm, the moderator in the interview is Doreen Ford, who is a woman. I'm not sure what negative stereotypes you're referring to here: she was nervous, yes, but I'll get more into that in a moment; the "stereotype" of a Redditor tends to be a neckbearded fat guy living in his mother's basement, which is... completely inaccurate from my experience but also does not represent Doreen at all. sure, she's not dressed in snappy business formal, but she's clean and her apartment behind her seems tidy enough. she's just very, very nervous.
this is because she walked into a trap. do you really think that Fox News, favourite channel of right-wing conservatives, is going to be capable of conducting an interview with a representative from a leftist, socialist community fairly? I don't know if you watched the anchor's face, but he was a complete asshole. he was ridiculing Doreen from the start, smirking and grinning to himself, eager to leap on anything she said. she barely got the chance to talk about the movement itself, because Watters kept asking her questions about herself, first of all to establish that she doesn't have a "real" job (she's a dog walker), and then to ridicule her when she stated she would like to be a teacher. he asks her what she wanted to teach, and then outright makes fun of her when she says philosophy. then he talks over her, still grinning to himself, and finally dismisses her by saying he's got to pay the bills.
now r/antiwork has gone temporarily private not because of embarrassment, but at least partially because they're being brigaded by other subreddits -- as in harassed and disrupted. this was a set-up, and Doreen has been used as the target. the concept behind r/antiwork is something that we should be striving towards -- contrary to what some people seem to think, it is not a subreddit advocating for laziness and for everyone to sit around doing nothing. it is a subreddit dedicated to exposing the ridiculous, hypocritical, and harmful culture that employers encourage in their employees; it is a space for important work-related topics to be dicussed, such as worker's rights, reduction of working hours, and the importance of being able to have time off to pursue hobbies. it's an incredibly important discussion to be having, especially right now, which is why r/antiwork has been the fastest growing non-default subreddit recently. it is not about lazy Reddit neckbeards trying to get out of working; that is the narrative being pushed by people with conservative, right-leaning politics to try and discredit the whole movement, which Fox News seemed delighted to contribute to.
that wasn't an interview. that was an experienced news anchor from a widely discredited fascist-supporting TV network taking advantage of and bullying a woman who had gone into the interview in good faith, and who was unprepared for the level of viciousness and ridicule she met. the subreddit's biggest mistake, in my opinion, was giving Fox the time of day to begin with.

the r/antiwork meltdown has been nightmarish but the final straw for me is that the users are advocating to move to a new subreddit called r/workreform whose mod team consists of allegedly right wing bank CTOs.
