very unfiltered first reactions/thoughts on STAGE/FRIGHT.

‼️ spoilers ahead‼️

first off, i wanna say that before writing this, i'd only read @somuchwatersoclosetohome's post (for purely selfish reasons bc she mentioned me & i wanted to know why), so i'm sure none of this will be original 😅

second, i'm not someone who's good with jumpscares so i will be mentioning my reactions to those a few times here 😅😅

-before seeing this, what i was vaguely aware of was: bcdr being performed, something involving a medical chair & jars, the rotating guests & the post with the pictures from the closing musical number. other than that, i'm happy i was able to avoid most major spoilers & was VERY happy to be wrong about the latter (more on that later).

-before it started, i eavesdropped on a man & a woman sat behind me - i think they were talking about steve, bc the man said, "was he in that show about that woman? alma?"

-so. many. jumpscares. which i was prepared for but the first one got me. i loved the entire theatre's reaction though!! 😂

opening story

-initial reaction was "ofc they would start with something meta!" i thumbed through the little programme while waiting for the show to start but only scanned a bit over the big programme & didn't look at A HOUSE DIVIDED, so my main impression here was...is this partially what r wishes he could do to people who annoy him in the theatre/cinema??

-v clever use of special effects to show the audience the text messages!

-i hadn't thought of it at the time but after when lying awake at 3am (lol), i realised they "seeded" toby being the understudy when he got up and left & r came on wearing similar clothes (i think??) and sat in the same seat

-the blood splatter on r's face in the end!!

-in general i thought s was fantastic here! idk if this makes sense but he's even more lively as len on stage than he is in the ep?

-and r's voice breaking at "you nearly died, len!" and opening & reading the card at the end 🥺🥺

-the guest for this one was su pollard! and i'm happy that i have heard of her 😂 i did laugh out loud when she listed HOUSE OF GAMES as something she'd been on, bc that's literally where i know her from (and wilty subsequently too!)

-REALLY enjoyed how much s and esp r were breaking during this story - so adorable whenever r had his back to us or adjusting his mustache 😭

-so i later gathered su/whichever guest saying "you could just let me go, you know" (something like that) and r replying with "i know how to use a phone, thank you" is a part of it. but then r said "...that's not the right line either" and puts the phone down in front of her - is this something that's different every time? feel free to let me know!

-the SARDINES reference! the theatre loved that one. and i did spot the single black shoe when the wardrobe was opened again. DDD my beloveddd 🥹🥹

-iT wAs JuSt A sTiCk Of CeLeRy!! lmao r's reaction

-su wasn't able to play the trumpet! the theatre also loved her final tirade at r&s before she ascends the stairs 😂 and everybody's reaction when "she" falls back down after the gun goes off 😂😂 su was lovely and a great sport!

-it was driving me nuts why the voice & performance s was doing here was so familiar. ty @silverview for mentioning that it was barry baggs!!

the ending of bcdr just before the interval was so well done!! and here i was prepared for the jumpscare 😬

-even though this turned out to be a "stage production", i'd like to think they did manage to do a 4th period piece

-r as hugo omg insanity!! here it felt like i got a taste of what it must've been like to watch him live on the tlog shows, if that makes sense? the physical comedy!!

-really enjoyed the effect of the head in the painting being chopped off

-during the hypnosis part, when goudron cuts hugo's forehead, a guy somewhere behind me audibly yelled out/gasped lol

-the foot sawing!! i was surprised but weirdly delighted they fit in a MOTHER'S RUIN reference?? does what r do/say here change every night as well? here iirc he says "almost done now" (or "almost there/through" aiya can't fully recall, but it got a good reaction from the theatre!). and ofc his immediate reaction post-hypnosis 😂😂😂

-s as goudron!! man it's crazy how good he is at playing authority figures who turn out to be bastards

-towards the end, just before gaby french's character comes on stage, i did briefly think "this seems a bit OTT/panto-ish, i hope it's deliberate?"

-the fakeout of miranda hennessy's character not really being dead from the drilling 😂 that was great!

-man. the entire self-taping scene. my palms were sweating throughout! i loved how it was like they brought DEAD LINE to life and we the audience get to experience it for real!

-r as marcus being a creep at the end!! that was a surprise bc the only time he's supposed to have played a character with similar traits is in PRIVATE VIEW, and even then i did NOT know that char was supposed to be a creep until i read the script. so seeing r act this out here was super interesting??

-they (r??) can't help but namedrop sheridan smith again 😬

-i think you could see the possession/death coming but the way this segment ends was fantastic. when gaby turns the camera to the audience, the first two rows of people were visibly cowering 😂😂

finale/musical number

-when they came out for the first curtain call i was like "ok..." at toby appearing. at this point i'd forgotten he appeared in the opening (hence the 3am epiphany). some people near me also stood up to clap as well 😏

-the reveal of r being dead the whole time was sooo 🤦‍♀️ (affectionate). like ofc. it's so on brand!! i did laugh out loud at s's "when i looked over i didn't see toby, i saw reece" 🤣

-then s dying too! this is where i was like, thank god my thought on those pictures is about to be proven wrong! when i saw that post, i knew it would be the ending and that it was them performing "tears of laughter". but my initial thought was: they've added to bcdr's ending by having tommy die and join len in heaven! i've never been more glad to be wrong tbh!!

-"...toby?" "no it's not fucking toby" 🤣🤣🤣

-and tying it into their irl game of whoever gets to the office first has to set something up for the other one!!!

Birth by Sleep was the point the KH series began going downhill. It was hyped up as a prequel that would answer a lot of questions, which it did...but it also had somehow mutated in development into something that went beyond that into recontextualizing the entire series rather than helping to logically progress it, which included heaps of blatant retcons that contradicted the previous games. All the new Keyblade lore in this game never went away and gradually consumed the series, as did its main villain for a long period of time. The anticipated fall-out of "save Terra, Aqua and Ven from their tragic fates" transformed into "save everyone from their tragic fates", undermining any dramatic weight the series had.

Yet despite that, it was on the whole executed quite well. I love the graphics, the music, the gameplay, the Disney worlds, the overall atmosphere, the new characters and their superb designs, the mini-games including the Command Board, and even the story on its most basic level plus clever writing/pacing by Daisuke Watanabe that shines through even Nomura and Oka's clunker of a script. It may not have lived up to expectations and was when the series jumped the shark, but there is so much good in it that keeps me coming back all the same.

I cannot stand Xehanort the Keyblade wielder as a character, for a multitude of reasons I don't want to relitigate here (I feel everyone ought to know them by now anyway). But despite that, there are three places where I actually enjoy him a lot - in Birth by Sleep where he's written as just the delicious wicked, unsympathetic villain of that story and origin behind Terra-Xehanort plus is voiced wonderfully by Leonard Nimoy; in Kingdom Hearts III's Re:Mind DLC where he's just treated as an enemy you can enjoy hating and beating up without thinking about him all that much plus is voiced wonderfully by Christopher Lloyd, and in the KH3 manga adaptation where most of the problems he suffered from in the game have been excised, from having his plan depicted as a new comeback rather than "the pre-destined master plan all along" to having the unearned pathos and dignity in his send-off removed.

358/2 Days is a mess, but it's.....how do I put it....a sincere mess. It's got the same dumb shonen anime vibe as KH2 did, but dumb shonen anime that are genuine and comfortable in being dumb shonen anime are charming to me, moreso that dumb shonen anime that overreach and try to pretend they're some avant-garde work in the way the KH series grew into from Dream Drop Distance and onward. I consider Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II, the special editions of all three, the original Coded (the mobile game that doesn't exist anymore), 358/2 Days and Birth by Sleep to be the Golden Age of the franchise.

Xion kicked off many unfortunate trends that would contribute to the degradation of the KH series and as a character she's very shallow in how plot is put ahead of any form of distinct personality, but that plot wasn't half-bad all things considered (it should have been a disaster, yet it shockingly wasn't), and while her personality may be tepid her personal struggle is effectively portrayed and I can't blame people for getting invested and choked up over it.

Of course, I straight-up love the manga version of Xion. She doesn't qualify for this meme.

Kingdom Hearts III is an abomination of a story, just one shade removed from its direct predecessor Dream Drop Distance. It officially killed any interest I have in the franchise going forward. But much like Birth by Sleep, it's a damn well-executed game! The gameplay, while shallow, is really fun, and by God the Disney worlds are superb - they may be the most filler they're ever been plot-wise, but they've also never been better designed, successfully combining the best of KH1 and KH2 style design in a way BBS and DDD failed at while also cleverly incorporating different genres of gameplay that match the world's aesthetics. The Gummi Ship is a similar "best of both worlds" situation, I adore minigames like the Bistro, Classic Kingdom, and the Flan Heartless, and all the stuff brought about in the Re:Mind DLC (except for fucking Yozora) is fantastic (Data Greeting, my beloved!) So while KH3 being my final big experience in the KH series could have been better, it could have been worse too.

Under better circumstances many characters from the X sub-series and overlapping Lost Masters Saga could have had potential, but the writing is so bad that I just end up turned off of the characters altogether. Except Strelitzia. Despite (or maybe even because) her having some of the worst treatments of a female character even by this series' standards (which is saying something), I can't help but appreciate her. While I hate the "Keyblade wielder in ancient times" angle for all of them, something about the dynamic between Strelitzia, Lauriam and Elrena is endearing and adds a lot to the bond between Marluxia and Larxene that beforehand was just a shallow one rooted in mutual power-hungry aspirations. So even if I disregard literally everything else involved, I'd still want to headcanon Strelitzia as existing.

And I am always happy to answer questions about April, and the AU in general, so don’t apologise! This is enrichment for me.

Answering the questions in order: Jon absolutely sings for April. I’ve had an art piece in mind I hope to do eventually of him singing her to sleep. I think music in general is very important to the both of them, because Jon is… well, Jon. He isn’t exactly an expert at conveying how he feels, and music tends to bridge that gap for him, especially on the more emotionally taxing days.

Their relationship as a whole will be delved into within the fic later on, but I’m still happy to talk about it! I think the most fundamental thing I keep in mind when considering writing them or how I’ll write them in the future is that their relationship, however strong it is, will always be haunted by Jon’s guilt. He woke up in this universe alone, in a bed that wasn’t his, with a toddler that wasn’t his, and a life that wasn’t his. He was not doing well those first few weeks. Truthfully, he wasn’t in the right place to be looking after a child, but he couldn’t just give her up, no. He took over this man’s life, and that guilt haunts him. He has to something right. He has to look after her. It’s the least he can do.

In the end, April is the thing that grounds him. She represents this new life of his, and is something he finds he has to keep on living for, something he has to stay ‘human’ for, however much of that is a lie. He doesn’t expect to love her as much as he does, despite the struggle that comes with raising a child alone. Working nights isn’t really ideal either, but it’s the only job he knows that keeps him well-fed. So, he works around it.

He tries to make up for it where he can, and remembers the things his grandma did for him when he was upset. It’s a ritual now for him to give April a bowl of fruit when she’s upset now, whether that be at him or because of school. Or he’ll sing. Or ask if she wants to watch a movie. Sometimes he’ll ask her to help him cook. It’s the little things that define their dynamic.

From April’s side of things, she genuinely isn’t upset when Elias has to take her to school in 001. A few years ago, she would have been, but she fancies herself very clever for an eight-year/ old, and she’s caught notice of how other kids at school have two parents instead of one. She knows she used to have another dad — Martin — and that her dad lost him when she was young, and she rationalises that it must be hard having to take care of a kid by yourself — especially a kid like her — and internalises that. Teachers at school tell her she’s a hassle to deal with, so surely her dad feels the same. There is also an element of kid logic to how she rationalises it, which will be seen in upcoming chapters, but good lord, so many of the Sims family issues would be solved if they just communicated.

(That will also be a problem later).

April doesn’t exactly have many friends at school either. She’s a much better at talking to adults than talking to kids her own age. For that reason, her dad and Elias are some of the only grounding aspects of her life, and she feels as though she has to prove herself worthy of even that.

On a less painful note, she also gives her dad something she calls ‘April hugs’ whenever she thinks he’s had a bad day at work. They’re magical. They make everything better. Jon will stare you to death if you dare to suggest otherwise.

I guess the summary of this very incoherent ramble is ‘autistic father with emotional communication problems raises an autistic daughter with similar emotional communication problems, and they love each other a lot and often times it feels like it’s them against the world, but they’d really benefit from Jon sitting down and being open with April, allowing her to do the same’.

And God, that last question is fascinating. If we’re being honest, I don’t think he’d take too kindly to it at all. What TMA!Jon has essentially done is not so different from the Not!Them, if you sit down and think about it, and Imagine you’re TMAGP!Jon, and you see a man who almost resembles you, playing with your daughter, and she knows who he is, but she doesn’t know who you are. She’s older now too. How much of her life have you missed? It’s… horrifying, really. That’s why there will always be a guilty factor to Jon and April’s relationship. He thinks about the alternate version of him more than he’d like to admit, and he’s come to the very understandable conclusion that the man would certainly hate him.

Post I made a while ago about it (might be slightly awkward / messy bc it’s from 2 years ago) :)

Essentially, at the end of bbs Vanitas and ven have a “battle of hearts” (similar to Roxas and sora in kh2) and Vanitas, as the weaker heart, loses and retreats back into his “origin”, ven’s heart. We see sparkles dissipate into vens stain glass, signifying that Vanitas has become embedded into ven’s heart. THEN ven becomes embedded in Sora’s heart, thus making a sort of matryoshka effect inside of sora;

Cut to ddd where sora is DEEP inside his own heart and thus coming across a lot of shit embedded within. Including Vanitas who appears as a fractured vision saying Sora’s heart is a prison “even if he’s not the prisoner.” Upon hearing this most people’s immediate thought would be *terra/aqua voice* ven!! But most people miss the hidden layer (cleverness intended) that would also mean Vanitas since he’s inside ven. Of course if someone is locked inside a prisoner in jail that also means they’re in the prison, whether them also being locked up was intentional or not

Cut to kh3. The first instance we see Vanitas is monsters inc. but we don’t see Vanitas first, we see the manifestation of his power because as he explains he needed enough energy to come back to life. The clever part about this is this only happens because sora is there with ven in his heart, thus physically bringing Vanitas’s heart to a place where he can regenerate and, if the plan works out, extract himself/ven from Sora’s body. There’s an extra bonus that the power becomes even more potent by upsetting sora and therefor having a STRONG sense of negativity which had been building in our poor boy all game, and as Ansem The Wise said, sora is able to make things be real and that means he was able to make Vanitas come back to life without whatever Xehanort did to make him, even though he didn’t mean to

Then Vanitas gets bodied by scully and thrown into a door, seemingly gone forever

Then like 3 seconds later we see him again in the land of departure. But. Wait. Didn’t scully just throw him to somewhere in Connecticut?

Act II: The second Vanitas

This Vanitas is a replica Xehanort pulled from the post. Xehanort had no fucking clue where Vanitas went after bbs bc he just disappears and honestly he clearly didn’t care because hes always known could just make another one so he does. The reason I know this isn’t monsters inc Vanitas is because one that’s impossible, it was 100% intentional this scene happens after yeetus Vanitas, and two Vanitas acts. Different. For one he’s much more brazen than he was in MI, instead of just his long winded monologuing he’s actually goading them on and being arrogant and feisty and trying to fight, immediately transporting us back to the kind of personality he had before. You know. Ven kicked his ass. And he also teleports and does magic and is way stronger than MI Vanitas because that Vanitas had just formed. There’s no possible way he had all his strength back after being rebirthed for 3 seconds so the fact that he was able to hold his own against aqua who’s been fighting nonstop for 10 years definitely raises an eyebrow and points to this theory because how was that possible and why didn’t he fight in MI if this was the case.

Some people have pointed out that it’s weird Vanitas wears a cloak of darkness in MI and thinking about it I think there’s two answers. The first is he was weak and I think it’s possible the cloak could protect him, esp if he’s not fully darkness anymore bc he has his own heart, has regenerated on his own instead of being extracted by Xehanort’s dark power, and was touched by two very powerful lights for like 10 years (they probably got their light cooties on him lol) and two, I think he was hiding from Xehanort. Vanitas likely knew of his plan since his conception even though he might not have fully understood was it was and therefore he would’ve known what was going on in kh3 and been like “shit. I’m not following the plan bc I’m not even a part of the plan anymore so Xehanort can’t find out.” Because if you remember in com DiZ says the cloaks can hide you from anyone and if Xehanort knew Vanitas was back he would at the very least force him to do his plan again or at the worst destroy him because he’s an unknown factor

Then sora fights replica Vanitas and he goes back into the past and somewhere out there Vanitas is walking around the streets of New York (or shibuya) having no clue what the fuck is going on

So yes. Two Vanitases bc we can’t get enough of this boy. Two of them

Hii Sea, I saw in your tags that you associate the color blue with Seon-ho and green with Sung-rok. So, I got curious, do you associate any colors with Hwi and Bang-won (and possibly why)?

Hi Lilja :DDD So clever of you to ask about colors since you know I always have MANY thoughts about that!!

Okay, let's start with Hwi... he may be red-coded and starts to wear it once he starts to work for Bang-won, but that doesn't feel like his true nature and I always think of yellow/gold as his color due to the canon sun symbolism for him, equally capable of nurturing life as destroying it. I also associate that color with his hero narrative and the hero's journey he goes through, taking him from a simple boy with simple dreams who doesn't have an easy life but is nonetheless happy with his small family/home (consisting of Yeon and Seon-ho) to someone who, in the wake of 'betrayal' and war trauma and the loss of his home (all he wants is to go home, but what do you do when you return from war only to find your home is no longer there? that your sister has forgotten you and your friend has become a stranger?), schemes and backstabs as ruthlessly as anyone else in the show in pursuit of his goals and later revenge, uncaring of who he hurts along the way; to finally remember and rediscover his heart again, the simple dreams he once had - that all he ever wanted was a simple, happy life surrounded by his loved ones. That they are his country and he wants to protect them. That he wants to go home. He regrets, repents, tries to understand, forgives and accepts, apologizing to Seon-ho who usually always ended up taking the brunt of his anger and is arguably the one he hurt the most with his schemes/quest for revenge. He will never be that simple, joyful boy in the beginning again and he will never be able to wipe the red from his ledger, neither of them will be able to, but underneath the dirt and blood there's still gold. There always will be. He finally comes home to Seon-ho.

Bang-won is true red for me due to us seeing him in that color from the start and his line about all the blood he spilled for his father seeping into his skin like tattoo ink. He's a hunter and killer and was forced to stain his hands red when killing Poeun to protect his family and his father's revolution, for which he takes the blame. Of course he has his own ambitions as well and his path to the throne and reign as King Taejong are very much drenched in blood to consolidate the work of his predecessors and lay down the unshakable foundation of a five hundred year dynasty. He thinks he's the only one fit to be King and lead Joseon to its first red rising dawn, and sacrifices everything at the altar of the throne, including his own feelings and the people he loves, even family, leaving him in a position where he is above everyone else but also tragically alone, which reminds me of what Haksan tells Ha-seon in The Crowned Clown (ep. 8, 00:18:09) about what it means to be a king that I think describes Bang-won perfectly:

"A king cannot exercise his power as he wishes. The throne he sits on is for an immoral beast, one that feasts on flesh and blood. To protect that seat and the nation, he must sacrifice all he has, even his own heart. That is his cruel destiny."

The symbol serves as a timer and lasts for 1 hour, but gets shortened into 30 minutes in the sunlight or any light source.

Ability: Rise Against now has a large amount of venom inside bulbs that are on its back, The stand’s stings can effectively decay anything once struck, from inorganic to organic beings. The corrosion of objects or people depends on the amount of venom struck on the object, the more the venom, the quicker the object will decay. Once the corrosion is done, there will be nothing left of the object or being that was stung. Rise Against can end up running out of venom though, and will need time to replenish the venom.

Symbiotic relationship

Crows guide foxes/wolves to prey -> Charles (granted unintentionally) giving Vixen more information about people in the digital world and giving her a tour of the kingdom, granting her more access to people

Crows taking a piece(s) of the kill for themselves -> Getting to spend more time with Vixen and meeting new people/getting closer with people he knows otherwise on a very surface level just because of how outgoing Vixen is

Also the mutual benefit for both of them not being lonely

Aesop's fable

While all the compliments and flattery toward Charles are genuine from Vixen, it cannot be ignored that she - like it or not - is still fulfilling an ulterior motive with him. She is still the fox in this tale, just...moved slightly to the left. Charles - of course - being Charles is taking the compliments, albeit with a little bit of resistance, not because he doesn't trust the fox though - but because of his views on himself. Regardless the Crow gives the Fox what the Fox desires (in this case character information, even if it's just surface level), and the Fox still betrays the Crow (passes the information along to Fixer)

And best of both of these is that This just came naturally to us. This is the kind of clever symbolism writers wish they could come up with, and we just accidentally stumbled upon it through animal motifs within the two characters

It's so amusing to me and just makes me kick my feet at them more

bonus little symbolism headcanon because im using this rant pass for as far as it'll take me (and because I've intentionally drawn Vixen like this twice tonight)

Headcanon that when drawing her, Charles gives her more doe-eyes than fox-eyes because doe-eyed creatures are seen as more innocent, soft, and caring; pretty much the way he views her.

He doesn't realize that he does it either, it's one of those instinctive artist things where you're like 'yeah this feels right, this must be right' without even realizing that you've changed something

Finding out that Crows and Wolves/Foxes have a symbiotic relationship where the crows guide wolves to prey and then take a chunk of the kill for themselves and that there is also apparently an Aesop's fable where a fox deceives a crow by flattering them to steal its food kills me

It makes me want to yap so badly about the unintentional correlation of both things with Vixen and Charles

Vi shot a look at the rest of your place where a number of cats, most of them very small in size, were napping in a spot of sunlight, chewing up food, or playing with a roll of yarn. She let her expression speak for itself.

“I don't see a problem,” you simply said.

“I only see cats,” replied Vi. “This is getting out of hand.”

“Lucky for you cats are very independent creatures, much like yourself. And besides, what would you rather have in your hands than kittens?”

“I can only lose with you, can't I?” said Vi, rolling her eyes, but a traitorous smile was tugging at her lips.

“I know you like them.”

“No, I don't.”

“I saw you cuddling with them yesterday.”

“They were cuddling with me, there's a difference.”

“I found her in an empty box on the street, she was hungry and freezing, I couldn't leave her there!”

A reluctant smile flickered across his face. “Is that so?”

“You should have heard her whimpers! The little thing was practically begging for me to bring her home.” You turned your attention to the kitten. “Isn't that right, Solnishko?”

Viktor blinked. “Solnishko?”

“That's what I named her.” You smiled up at him. “It's a psychological tactic, so that you'll like her better.”

“Very clever.”

“I thought you'd appreciate it. Here.” You held the kitten out to him. “Hold her.”

Viktor hesitated before slowly reaching out his slender hand and you carefully placed the kitten into his palm. It mewled but then snuggled into him without any signs of apprehension.

You smiled as you watched Viktor watch the kitten. “Cute, right?”

“I admit she's quite sweet.”

“I was talking about you.”

“She can keep you company when I'm gone,” you said.

“You know, Solnishko,” said Viktor, studying the small creature with a curious intensity usually reserved for his studies, “one of the twelve other cats would have also done the trick.”

“I do like cats,” said Caitlyn, picking up a grey one from the coffee table, “just not this many. Where do you even get all of them?”

“The streets,” you said casually. “I'm saving them from the cruel outer world.”

“It would be nice if you were saving our flat instead.”

“They don't bother anybody,” you said reprehensively. “And we have no mice!”

“We didn't have mice before,” frowned Caitlyn. “And just like week they slashed the curtains.”

“You're rich, what does a slashed curtain bother you?”

She raised an eyebrow. “It's about the principle. I don't like my property ruined.”

“Caitlyn,” you said . “Where's your heart?”

“It's reached its limit at the seventh cat,” she replied. “Listen, I'm all for pets, but this is ridiculous.” “They're not even cats, they're kittens.”

“What do you think they're going to grow into?”

You were silent for a moment. “Well, they're still cute.”

Caitlyn sighed. “As sweet as they are, you need to stop bringing them in. At this rate we're soon going to have a whole zoo.” She went to sit on the sofa, lifting up an orange kitten that was previously sitting there and moving it to rest on her lap. It purred contently when she began stroking its fur.

“But I can't just leave them all on their own! When I see one freezing on the streets, I have to take it home with me, I'm not a monster!”

“Maybe we can bring some to the shelter.”

“No,” you pouted. “I can't say good-bye to my babies.”

“If this is how you are with cats, how are you going to be with actual babies?” asked Caitlyn.

You blinked. “Well, I sure hope we won't have as many.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

Ekko flung out his arms, pointing at the tiny white kitten in your lap. “Another?”

You shrugged helplessly, but the grin on your face betrayed that you weren't actually sorry.

You gave him your best puppy eyes, pout and all, and lifted the kitten up for him to see. “How can you expect me to say no to this cutie?”

“That's exactly what I was thinking when I plucked you from the streets,” grumbled Ekko. “Be thankful you're so adorable.”

“So that means we can keep it?” you beamed.

“This place is already crawling with cats, at this point it really doesn't matter.”

“So if I bring more-”

Ekko sighed.

“They're exactly like us,” you argued. “There are so many little kittens lost in the streets, you can't expect me to just leave them on their own.”

He rolled his eyes, but you noticed the hint of a smile tug at his lips. “(Y/f/n) (Y/l/n), self-proclaimed cat-rescuer.”

“You say that like it's a bad thing.”

“I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I am saying this place reeks of cats.”

“Better than the gases. Besides, they can be our mascots.”

“We're not getting mascots,” said Ekko. “And if we did they'd be Firebugs anyway.”

You grinned. “We're getting you around, admit it.”

He huffed. “Getting on my nerves more like it.”

But he wasn't very convincing when by night he was sleeping with a bunch of tiny kittens in his arms.

Jinx

“Oh, another one?”

Jinx hopped excitedly into the room, crouching down in front of you and the kitten in your lap. It was curled up and fast asleep. “It's so cute!”

You smiled brightly. “I know. He just feel asleep, but he was really active earlier. Tried climbing up my leg and wanted to play with a grenade.”

Jinx's eyes lit up. “I can't wait to play with him! Maybe I can make some non-explosive ones.” She reached out to pet him, then paused, remembering that he was sleeping. For a moment, she seemed torn between wanting to run her fingers through his fur and not risking disturbing his peaceful slumber. Then she suddenly let a giggle, pulling her hand back, before whispering, “Shhh,” though mostly to herself.

“Where did you find him?”

“In the Undercity,” you said. “He was hiding from the rain in a little paper box, so I took him with me.”

“Poor little thing,” Jinx cooed. “Left all alone …” For a moment, her eyes glazed over, before she shook her head. “What's his name?”

“Haven't named him yet,” you replied. “I wanted to wait for you.”

“Aww.” Jinx pushed out her lower lip. “That's so sweet! What shall we name him?”

“I don't know. Pebbles?”

“Hmm?” Jinx crouched down further, gazing into the kitten's face. “He doesn't look like a Pebbles to me. Oh, how about Sprinkles?”

“Sprinkles?” you giggled.

“Yeah! Look at the little dots all sprinkled on his fur.”

“You're right,” you said. “He does look like a Sprinkles.”

Jinx grinned, still looking at the tiny, sleeping kitten. “Hi, Sprinkles. Hey, Sprinkles and Twinkles. That rhymes!”

“It does,” you chuckled. “It's the perfect name.”

“Sprinkles and Twinkles and … Jinkles?” She giggled. “Oh no, I woke him up.”

The kitten was yawning and blinking, prying its little eyes open and gave Jinx a look of confusion.

She waved at him. “Hi, Sprinkles. I also have sprinkles. See?” She pointed at her freckles and pecked him on the dots on his fur. “We're just the same.”

“Ah, I should've guessed.”

At least you had the decency to look sheepish. “Sorry?”

He just chuckled. “I didn't expect you to keep away from the strays anyway.”

“Look how small she is!” You showed him the kitten in your palms, a frail, dirty and positively adorable little thing.

Vander sighed. “We're running out of space, sweetheart.”

You raised your eyebrows. “What space can she take up?”

“Well, twenty of those-”

“Not twenty.”

“Nearly.”

You just looked at him innocently, stroking the kitten and putting on your best doe-eyes. Vander looked at you, one eyebrow raised. He knew exactly what you were doing yet he was falling victim to it nonetheless. So he did nothing when you carefully placed the kitten into his palms. It looked ridiculous in his giant hands, but his heart swelled as she clumsily tried to find her way across his limbs, clawing at his jacket as she scrambled up his arms.

You let out a giggle when she came to a stop on Vander's shoulder. “She likes you.”

He hummed. “A little adventurer, aren't you?”

A smile spread on your face. Vander might seem like he was the type of man to own ten blood hounds, but his gentle heart was most at home where there were others who were in need of that kindness, that inherent need to protect. The kitten suited him.

-Buster and Meena are very close. Meena's father was a military man, and died when Meena was little. Buster basically become her father figure.

-Meena loves to bake Buster treats, and the word "dad" has slipped her mouth once or twice when giving them. It always makes Buster feel great the rest of the day. He gets this goofy smile and never loses it.

-Buster is ALWAYS looking for an excuse to bestow random spontaneous gifts. Meena secretly loves it.

-Just as Meena will lift Buster up so he can reach things, Buster is happy to wiggle into small or down-low places to get things for Meena. This was the case (as an example) when Meena's necklace fell into an air vent. Buster was on a mission XD

-Buster will sing goofy songs to make Meena smile when she seems a little upset or down about something. It's quite the sight!

-Buster has his down days too, but Meena knows that hot chocolate and cookies always lifts his mood. Clever elephant.

-Buster likes to organize Moon Theater movie nights. He will often sit on Meena's shoulder, jokingly insisting he gets the best view there. Besides, easier to look over people's heads at the screen. Rosita finds it endlessly amusing, as does Porsha. Ash just rolls her eyes when Buster does this.

-Meena likes to invite Buster over to have dinner with her and her family, insisting he needs to get out of the theater more. Fredrick (her grandpa) scares the holy heck out of him at least once every visit. Meena and Buster are unsure if it is intentional or not.

-Buster knows Meena's family well, and is good friends with them. Him and Meena's mother, Betty, talk with one another often when they see one another.

-Meena has played pie face with Buster. But he always loses! But really? The loser is the real winner in that game.

-Moon Theater game nights are the BOMB. Try playing truth or dare with that many people and tell me it isn't ridiculous!

-Meena yeeted Buster into the pool like seven times when they had a pool party. Buster now refuses to do any pool-related activities with the group. He would probably cave if Meena called him "dad" while trying to convince him, though.

-Meena often stays at the theater after the rest of the group has gone home. Buster will play hide-and-seek with her. He hides, she seeks. Buster is so good at hiding (and in the craziest places) that this game never gets old with those two. More than once, Buster has been found chilling on the lighting equipment with a cookie, just watching her look for him.

-Buster is so ruthless when it comes to Never Have I Ever. Meena and him have like this never-ending rivalry going with the game.

-Buster will buy literally anything for Meena for her birthday or Christmas. And she will spoil him rotten in return XD

-They are adorable.

im SO sorry this is super late!!! cringes i got distracted with some stuff sorry!!!!!!! but to answer your question im kinda torn b/t domestic super close bkdk who lives together and do everything as a couple but arent a couple at all??? like that's such a vibe where you're basically living in each other pocket and doing everything that is a married couple does but the feelings hasnt caught up yet and idk i like that a lot. another flavor of bkdk that i talked about where they're super intense about each other - katsuki is all consuming and his love is an ocean w/o borders and izuku is bottomless well that katsuki can pour all his love into. it's just soooo idk intense and terrifying bc how overwhelming it it but for these two it works bc their both ppl of extreme so yea.

i think i dabbled into a lot of diff trope and AU, i try not to restrain myself on anything, but there's like two particular things i want to try but i never have the courage to bc im not smart enough to write it LMAO. i want to do a 'horror unlimited' thing idk if ppl know this but it's a very common trope in china and even in japan too where you're trap in a horror/life or death scenario where you have to play out games and do crazy stunts in order to survive. it's really interesting and very clever. i always want to try it but it takes a lot of skill and creativity to come up with the survival games for it and im not that smart LOL. maybe one day!!!! i also would love to write a crime scene/detective murder mystery thing where bkdk and their friends basically an elite unite of investigators solving serious crimes like serial killers and such. im obsessed with csi, criminal minds, and law & order so writing a fic base around that is a dream of mind but once again i dont have enough knowledge to write it but ONE DAY, ONE DAY!!!!

i dont think there's any particular media that based bkdk but i just have a very vivid picture of bkdk in my head and i staunchingly stick to it (that's why i don read bkdk anymore LMAO bc it's so severe). for me i put that in a lot of AU setting but i try very hard to keep the core of who they are like izuku being kindhearted even if i write fics where he landed in the LOV's lap and is raised by AFO, i cant see him changing his kindhearted way and it's something i work into the fic how his struggles with wanting to help ppl and wanting better for the world torn b/t knowing his father and the ppl around him are VERY, VERY BAD PPL. it's good shit lol. katsuki is similar that he's a person full of flaw and is a general prick but he's really just an awkward boy who's trying his best and he may not always be kind but he's a good boy underneath all that rough edges and that he cares more deeply than ppl realize. i try to keep that inherent 'core' of their char so even if i do funky and weird setting that seem out of place for who they are, to me they are still recognizable as bkdk so that's super important to me.

The BAMF (Badass Motherfucker) (like somebody is badass in some way like fighting really cool or just being super smart or anything!) (do....is this term still widely used and recognized within fandom? AM I AGING???)

I’m really intrigued by Rayla’s moonshadow assassin peers. I especially am interested in Andromeda because I think she is the only other girl in the group? Do you have any headcanons in how these teen/young adult assassins interacted? Do you think Rayla isolated herself from them because she was always iffy about taking a life? Also TDP finally colored their map and I know you live maps, find any new cool stuff? I especially love how there’s a frozen sea north and a spinning sea south, imagine the powerful Magic’s that channeled to make them.

Okay, so I jumped straight to the map, did 80% of it, and wandered away for a few weeks. I apologize, anon. Let’s get this going again:

I’ve got a few headcanons on the Moonshadow assassins! It seems likely that they hang out mostly with each other, when they hang out, to reinforce their teambuilding and to give them some socialization, since assassins tend to keep others at arm’s length. So I kinda figure they tend to roam as a pack on their evenings out in the village, if they’re not married to a non-assassin like Runaan is.

I think that could be part of the reason that Rayla might not have hung out with the others as much, too: Runaan wanted to be either training or at home with Ethari, so Rayla probably spent a lot of time doing those things just because he did them. And when Runaan was doing more serious training or missions, that’s when Rayla had her free time to run around the forest and make adoraburr friends. 

Runaan could’ve probably insisted that she do something more assassiny with her free time. Shadow an assassin, do more studying, practice certain prescribed skills on her own. But he didn’t. He let her play. Soft assassin is soft!

Listen, anon, I have a fun headcanon for you about Andromeda--and by fun, I mean it’s really angsty half a second after you start thinking about it. Ready? 

What if: Andromeda is Runaan’s half-sister. If they’re both Lujanne’s children by different assassin dads who kept dying in battle, but a Moon mage needs an assassin leader partner to defend Xadia with, and Lujanne knew her son Runaan wasn’t old enough to lead yet, so she burned through three or more husbands protecting him until Runaan was well trained enough to lead the assassins himself and had fallen in love with a mage who adored him and would be his partner in her place.

 Andromeda looks a fair bit like Lujanne, too:

Along with Runaan, they all have long hair, side tails bound in silver cuffs, and some form of braids. Andromeda’s hair is sectioned in front similarly to Runaan’s. Her accent sounds more British than Scottish, though she only has the one line: My eyes for truth. And Lujanne and Andromeda are the only two Moonshadow elves we’ve met who have medium blue horns, while Runaan’s are dark blue. Almost everyone else’s horns have purple or pink as their base color.

But then, see, Andromeda went on Runaan’s mission, and she died. Her spirit was the most aggressive in TTM, usually closest to Rayla with her sword out, as if she hated Rayla the most. If she had a vested family interest in Runaan’s mission succeeding, and then it went pear-shaped because of Rayla, that would make sense.

No matter if she’s related to Runaan or not, she’s wearing horn cuffs, so she was in a dedicated relationship of some kind, and that’s so sad. Someone’s missing her the way Ethari’s missing Runaan. :’((((

Anyway, it’s just a headcanon, but since you asked, there ya go.

Okay, on to my thoughts on the map, of which I have a normal and healthy amount:

The Map Border: 

Everyone doodles in the borders. I love to see what they put there.

Starting in the upper left and going counter-clockwise, the five human crowns are cool

Cornucopia swirls center left look like an homage to Cabbage Man from ATLA

Bait is staring at Evenere. his home? Or maybe he just wants to eat the dragonfly on its logo

Human defender has a beard. Hairagorn. He's very heavily armored but has no helmet. Long hair is braided to rest on front of shoulder, like the blond elf in the painting at the Moon Nexus. Old timey hairstyle?

He’s defending Katolis Castle specifically. I wonder if the little white building is kinda random or if it’s supposed to represent the Banther Lodge. Nah, I have a better guess: that’s where Viren grew up

The crack in the map looks meta. It's been repaired somewhat. Makes me wonder if it's an in-world map, whose, who ripped it, and who fixed it. Sir Phineas Kurst seems like the kind of guy to almost shred his really cool map

The two ships on the southern waters are western and eastern respectively. Tidebound elves from Singapore? Jack Sparrow would be proud

There is land just south of the Dragontail, wonder what’s there?

The leaves around the human figure are small and numerous while the Moonshadow elf has fewer but bigger leaves

The elf is standing in the way of one of the six leaves growing out of the rune rose and that leaf's curly tip seems to have been replaced with a curl of the elf's very long hair

The human pose is more offense and the elf pose is more defense. But the elf has two swords, and one has some wicked hooks in it.

Elf has 4 fingers instead of 3 so whether it’s in-universe or meta, they were drawn by a human :DDD

The elf's braid winds around their horn and I think that's clever

High collar shirt under protective layer, bracers and elbow gloves, bare biceps, complex shoulder getup, ornate hair that's butt long and partly braided, two long slightly curving swords... horn cuffs too. This is a Moonshadow assassin in the same gear Runaan's got, poised to defend the Xadian half of the map as the human is poised to defend his side

The rune rose isn't a compass. It has a two sided pointer and six primal runes. Just decorative I guess. ;)

The Human Kingdoms:

Neolandia

Capital Eboreus seems to be a lake city below a mountain and I'm here for all the Lake Town refs. 

It's also the eye of the elephant shape

Not a lot of trees, mostly grasses or desert. Only borders Duren across a couple rivers/estuaries/sea channels

Land generally broken into several sections by sea/rivers 

If it’s rivers, they seem to generate from the capital’s lake and flow in several directions. And they say there’s no magic left in the western lands! ;)

But if there was exactly one source of freshwater in a desert land, it makes sense that you’d find a way, magical or mechanical, to spread that lifegiving water in as many directions as possible so your people can thrive so kudos to Neolandia’s ancestors/Tidebound elves/whoever managed that, it’s brilliant

I can and will make up explanations for anything on a map. I adore worldbuilding

Del Bar

Two named locations. Since Del Bar’s national symbol is a serpent, I guess Serpentongue is the capital.

Hinterpeak is a sweet name. Looks like Helm's Deep with that retaining wall. What’s it for? Are there dwarves in this land? Is it an Earthblood stronghold? Maybe it’s like the Mines of Moria, and the Earthbloods were chased out and/or killed inside and now it’s full of nasty orcses but someone left a MacGuffin down there so *nudges hero* Off you pop.

Nice forests around the southern mountain range but northern DB is more arid or grassy lands like Neolandia. 

Considering that crops grow well in Duren, which is farther north, I assume there is a massive meteorological gyre over the human lands, with a southern wind blowing down over the western realms and keeping them icy until the mountains of Hinterpeak block and divert them, protecting Evenere. The winds don't blow eastward without warming right up-- and causing thunderstorms in Katolis how about that-- because there is a warmer side to the gyre over Katolis and Duren, blowing tropical warmth and moisture north and providing rain for trees and crops alike. Most years, anyway.

How does the weather fail in Duren for seven years in a row, anyway? That seems like a Thunder issue. Unless it’s a Sunforge issue, which I’ll get to below.

Ahem.

Borders Neolandia, Duren, and Katolis across rivers, but most border is coastline.

Serpentongue probably got its name from the two river heads around it

Cluster of dead little cracks spawns a single river. Looks like someone cracked the tub and it drained away. I wonder how much of this landscape has been affected by the Mage Wars. Big watery basins have flooded and other spots seem dead. The lands may or may not actually touch depending on how deep some of these waterways are

Evenere

Looks like someone punched holes in the land with a giant pencil to make it a separate island. Broken outline with scattered islands

That Pawprint Isles has only four toes

Moon-shaped island is very crescenty indeed

Are these isles home to refugees or outcasts from Xadia? Listen, I want pirates and that sea looks pretty Caribbean to me

No capital city, hmmm what's that about? Is it underground, does it move? Maybe Fareeda’s capital is on the back of a world turtle and she’s constantly on tour around the island?

That arm of land ending in a peace sign, please can we get surfers

The hills emanating from that claw shaped headland look like something is sleeping under the island, hello yes I am here for giant immortal creatures please

Katolis

its capital is also called Katolis, the only human realm to use the same name twice

Weeping Bay could be a ref to the tears the humans shed after they reached the west. Or the Moonshadow elves as they left their forest for the east. Or both. Both, in this case, is bad but balanced

Boomerang island next to the Dragontail

The river the Dragaang rode on was going uphill

The watery slash in the land between Katolis and Del Bar is awfully straight. So is the one between Del Bar and Neolandia. I call magical warfare.

Katolis has a bunch of mountains in the east, part of an old natural border before the lava one appeared

Mt Kalik is probably volcanic. It's a standalone mountain and it's really tall. Rex Ignius maybe? Oh, probably not, I think I see him peeking on the other side of the map

The trees of Duren and Katolis are different then the western lands. Softer green, deciduous. And the land itself is yellower, warmer in tone

Forests centered on Mt Kalik

The Moon Nexus looks like an eye on a dragon head near the Dragontail, and Evenere looks like a severed wing (Yes I am still wondering where Luna Tenebris went, why do you ask)

Weeping Bay looks like the most natural body of water in the western lands

Three red little trees scattered around the Katolis map. Fruit trees? How very Moonshadow.

Duren

The only land border among all the human kingdoms is between Duren and Katolis. Maybe it used to be further south along the river?

Capital is Berylgarten, set on a lake. Beryl is a stone that’s usually green, blue, or yellow in color, very gardeny

Second smallest realm but the breadbasket of the human lands. Has several little forests and great tilled fields

Being a farmer in Duren is probably as awesome as being an assassin in the Moonshadow Forest; you do what you do for all your friendly kingdoms

Northernmost land is cold and craggy, named Skall's Hook along the sea

Third ship in the Frozen Sea is icebound and crushed. Looks western, indicating no possible passage

Lots of colored trees and shrubs as if fruitbearing, I keep comparing Duren to the Yakima Valley in Washington State

Where the lava reaches the Frozen Sea, it melts the ice next to Duren's mountains

Northern Xadia:

Lux Aurea

Most of the center lands of this map has warm tones for its ground. Maybe that’s because of the long reach of the warmth and light of Lux Aurea’s Sun Nexus, and only the lands that are just too far from it are truly cold and icy. It would explain why Duren is a breadbasket realm so far north--it’s just across the border from Lux Aurea.

If there’s anything to that, then I suddenly worry for the fate of all the human lands now that the Sunforge has gone dark. It’s early summer now in Xadia, and crops in Duren will be ripening soon... Unless the sun’s magic was helping them grow. This coming winter could be rough. Next winter, people will die. Unless they can purify the Sunforge again.

Also, I have to wonder if Duren’s seven years of famine had anything to do with Sunforge shenanigans. They’d have happened at Khessa’s command, and we know she despises humans. If she was responsible for all the struggles that humans had to go through without enough food for seven years, and then their desperate attempt to fix the problem by invading Xadia for a Magma Titan’s heart which extended and exacerbated the war, I can see why Aaravos might feel Queen Khessa deserved to die

The city’s shaped kinda like an Egyptian pectoral necklace on this map, and that’s super pretty and not at all ominous

Also that’s a lot of gold for a whole city and I wonder how they got it all

The Shiverglades and the Shards

These areas are north of Lux Aurea and seem cold but not very icy, even though the Frozen Sea is right there. More thoughtful glances at the Sunforge over this one. Is it warming the land, or not warming the sea? Both?

Shiverglades is a play on Everglades, so this is a cold swamp, which sounds super fun I’m sure. Permafrost, tundra maybe?

The Shards seem to be rock islands with ice mountains. Glaciers are cool. 

I wonder if something broke those islands off on purpose. Have I mentioned how much I enjoy worldbuilding? Yeah, well, I like world-wrecking, too.

Storm Spire

Has a good view on everything that happens for miles, including Lux Aurea, the Midnight Desert, the Shiverglades, the Black Tundra, the Uncharted Forest, and Drakewood. 

Defensible position, no other tall mountains nearby

Also able to alert others to danger, especially since Avizandum could teleport like lightning

The Midnight Desert

It’s pretty big! And it looks like it’s littered with ruins of columns and dead palm trees. Like something else used to be in that great space and then something Very Bad happened to it. Maybe there was one great city where all the elves could mix together, and then it got utterly obliterated and the elves all fled to their respective safe places around Xadia. A city of black stone, back when Aaravos wore a crown? Now pulverized to dust and surrounded by not one, not two, but three primal nexuses? Hmmm...

All the wisps could be heat from the sand, or spooky spirit hints, or just an ominous sign of danger from the snakes below, but the overall effect is that the land is unhealthy if not cursed

The oasis is marked, and it must contain a spring since it runs a river out to join the river that passes through the Moonshadow Forest

Also the actual oasis kinda resembles a blue lizard which is adorable and probably also terrifying

Moonshadow Forest

The Silvergrove is the only village marked in the forest, so in keeping with the other lands and general map legend rules, it’s likely the capital/central village for the Moonshadow elves

The village is marked by four round-roofed homes between two tall leafy trees that shelter and hide them. It’s a hybrid balance between the blocky manmade castles of the human lands and the actual forest around them, showing a blending with nature that even the Sunfire city of Lux Aurea did not embrace, with all its golden buildings

It’s a good-sized forest, and it kinda stretches thin to the east but there it tentatively connects to the Drakewood Forest

Moonstone Path to the west just chilling in the lava like a blank alignment chart. Moonstone Path is Chaotic Hot.

Southern Xadia:

Ruins of Elarion

Elarion is a city, and it’s been lost to the humans for a thousand years

The building outlines are squared-off towers like the more modern castles in the west, suggesting that humans in Xadia built for strength and defense as soon as they could. They felt vulnerable and created protections in their architecture. The three elven cities we see also play to their strengths, but those strengths include magic. Elarion’s humans had to find a different strength, and they went with craftsmanship and ingenuity

It seems to be the only human city from before the border was drawn

“Ruins” doesn’t necessarily mean no one lives there at all, but it’s been emptied of humans and no one else has maintained it since

It had a great position on a vast lake, with sheltering hills and easy sea access

Sea of the Castout

This inland sea has five inlets and outlets. It’s hard to be sure which is which with some of them, with the way the water is drawn on this map. But I’m kinda liking the idea that all the water swirlies are places where Tidebound magic has been placed over the millennia, so the water can do whatever it needs to do depending on circumstances. That goes for the human lands, too. Katolis backward river, you’re off the hook.

With a name like "Castout,” I wonder if it was some kind of universal toilet to flush away things you didn’t want--including humans--who might wash up near Elarion and start to build there. Yeesh.

The rivers that flow into this sea pass through or near the Moonshadow Forest, the Midnight Desert, the Storm Spire, Drakewood, and the Uncharted Forest. That’s a lot of drainage.

It’s pretty far from the Tidebound Archipelago, so maybe its name is referencing Tidebound elves who have left their home colony

Was this always a sea, or did something that Xadia wanted to forget get flooded and hidden in the depths?

The land around it seems open and hospitable. It could be a good place to build/rebuild in a time of peace.

The Far Reaches

Open grassland with low hills

Two of the hills look like giant boot prints

Several colorful trees which I hope are fruit trees

Bounded by two rivers from the Sea of the Castout

Looks homey tbh, great spot to retire to get away from everything if there were a war that really shook you up

Ocean Point

There’s a Star rune here, and it could mean many things

The closest other marked location is Elarion

If this was where Aaravos lived of his own free will, I can see why he’d take a shine to the humans. They were his neighbors.

If he is imprisoned here, it’s literally the furthest point in Xadia from the other elven realms, with the Moonshadow Forest being the closest one and Umber Tor not too much further but in a totally different direction. If they were trying to isolate him physically with a portable mirror to watch over him, that’s a good spot for it

Possible location that the cube is leading Callum toward? Portal to the Star Touch home plane? Aaravos’s seaside B&B? Trap street?

Eastern Xadia:

Drakewood

Umber Tor looks to be the tallest mountain in all of Xadia, save possibly for the Storm Spire. It’s more traditionally mountainy, with a nice snowcap. Since it’s labeled, I’m guessing it’s the Earth Nexus, under which an Earth Archdragon sleeps

Also there’s a giant yellowish-brown dragon chilling next to the Tor. Yeah, he seems nice. Rex Igneous, I presume?

Or maybe not, since the neighboring forest is called Drakewood. Maybe this woods is just where a bunch of Earth dragons hang out? Ezran and Pyrrah flew off and returned with a crew of Sun dragons from somewhere, so dragons must have communities too

The mountains that edge the sea are shaped roughly like a stone dragon in flight

Drakewood seems to be the forest closest to Umber Tor, with both deciduous and evergreen trees, though there’s a huge swath of wooded land here, to the north and to the southwest. I wonder what the locals consider the border where the Drakewood becomes the Uncharted Forest and why. The way the evergreens are drawn almost looks like a border, a sort of kingswood set aside for a specific use. Rex Igneous’s best toothpicks?

Uncharted Forest

Okay this is a properly magical name, very mysterious. But uncharted by whom? People with charts? This might be a Sir Phineas Kurst name, which is outsidery, and it makes me wonder if the locals/neighbors have their own name for it, which the human explorer never learned, a la “Thunder” for Avizandum

Maybe “Uncharted Forest” just means no one ever turned those trees into charts though, old growth ftw

If no one lives here, will someone move here? If someone lives here, who are they? Earthblood elves? Moonshadow elves? Humans? This mystery, it calls to me

the trees are mostly deciduous and fill basically all of this whole section of land, up against the mountains and the rivers, so it seems very fertile land indeed

Earthblood elves could live here, but there is no city marked. Maybe because we haven’t gotten that far in the show, or maybe that’s the wrong sort of descriptor for how the Earthbloods live and organize. Maybe the whole forest is their city, like Pando, the interconnected quaking aspen clone forest

The northernmost part of this forest lies right between the Storm Spire and the Tidebound Archipelago, so it might get a regular flyover route for migration or messages

Yes, this forest is the most interesting place in Xadia to me, I desperately want to learn more about it

Black Tundra

Yeah this place isn’t ominous

Similar to the Shiverglades, but where that has shrubbery, the Black Tundra has single dead trees and creepy curving spikes. Scorched? Poisoned? De-magicked?

The water north of this area isn’t frozen, and with a lake to the south and a river and a moderate mountain range, the whole area looks like it would otherwise be decently habitable, but instead it’s cold and black

Is climate change a thing here, or will we get a nice horrible disaster instead?

Tidebound Archipelago

These islands have dotted lines around them, like they’re submerged at high tide, or maybe made of shifting sand that literally moves around like sand dunes across a desert, or perhaps they’re exactly at sea level with half their civilization in the air and half underwater or in cool bubbles, or maybe the islands actually float

Maybe the Tidebound elves even sank them on purpose for defensive purposes

The archipelago is about even latitudinally with the Storm Spire Lux Aurea, Berylgarten, and Eboreus so they probably get pretty nice weather

There’s no ice in sight here in any direction along Xadia’s east coast, so presumably the prevailing current is a warm one

do they have bridges connecting the islands? Ferries, animals who give them a lift across?

the islands have quite a bit of space on them. I wonder if there’s a big population, maybe a shifting population? Do Tidebound elves migrate up and down the coast like gray whales and return to the islands for certain holidays or social events?

This is probably the hub of the Tidebound elves’ culture, but the sea surrounds the whole land and infiltrates it with many rivers and lakes. The Spinning Sea and the Frozen Sea are pretty firm Do Not Enter signposts, but a determined Tidebound could get around either one if they wanted to

What I’m not seeing here is a city. Either it’s not been marked yet, or that’s not a thing that Tidebound elves have in their culture. If they don’t have a city, they’re possibly migratory in family groups, or maybe they stick to small villages like the Moonshadows do, but with even less central leadership

A kh3 end mini rant / vent post. WARNINGS for crazed rambling, horrible formatting, screaming, kh3 spoilers, and opinions. Also, it doesn’t seem like it but this isn’t a rage post, I scream a lot but it isn’t really out of anger I’m just overwhelmed lmao. Again, this is all my opinion and bc I’m not nomura himself, all I’m doing here is speculating and expressing my interpretation of the game, in rant form. And, I hate to say this but, sokais beware I sound rly mean in this post and I’m not out to bully anyone:

This is gonna sound mean but the sokai in kh3 is just a fucking red herring and it’s infuriating 🤣🤣

I’m not raging or anything lol I don’t get butthurt over something like this but I do have FEELINGS about it!!!

Like I GET that it’s to serve the story and the setup and it’s a humongous metaphor/foreshadowing but it’s also SO easy to take at face value and while I commend the story telling aspect of it, I hate that it happened in regards to a straight vs gay ship, as if they weren’t pitted against each other as was.

It’s also why I both love and hate how kh has so much like, retroactive storytelling. Bc it means that unless you go back and analyze ddd and kh3, unless you’re already a soriku, you might just go and assume “sora and kairi” were “confirmed” in kh3. Like—

The fact too that all the sokai came at the very end and overshadowed 👀 riku’s sacrifice and all the soriku buildup we had throughout the game— like, YES, CLEVER, amazing, big brain, the running theme of kairi eclipsing riku—

But AHHH WHY did THAT have to be the theme like—!!!! I GET it, it’s reinforcing the fact that sora fucking straight up forgot riku, it’s SUPPOSED to seem blatant and out of place based on sora’s track record of “riku riku riku”— it’s SUPPOSED to be SUS but—! My heart!! Can’t!!

Like the payoff in riku game better be DAMN GOOD for all the suffering I’ve endured 🤣😭🤣

End note: I know this sounded like ship bashing but I don’t mean it that way. I’m NOT hating the ship, I don’t hate sokai, I’m yelling about the way the ship was USED and why it drives me nuts, in both a good and bad way. I’m not speaking on behalf of anyone other than myself, I’m not claiming all sorikus hold these opinions and theories. This is just a rush of feelings and thoughts I had that I wanted to say.
