I'm back on my reread, and I love that Ming Fan bursts into tears when sqq wakes up again after the demon invasion. being a crybaby is not a Binghe-exclusive trait, all the Qing Jing disciples cling to their shizun's robes and sob on him
#svsss reread#it always strikes me when i think about the flashback scene when the tea is poured on binghe's head and he starts crying#and it says that was the first and last time he cried on qing jing peak#(presumably referring specifically to binghe of pidw)#and it also says the last time binghe had cried was when he was burying his mother#which makes me think that he does not cry often unless under extreme duress#which is SO interesting considering his crybaby act is largely an act#there are definitely moments when he cries for real but it's usually moments of intense stress#maigu ridge jumps to mind#but most of the time when he's getting weepy for shizun he's playing it up#because he knows sqq is weak to his tears#so to circle back to ming fan here#i wonder if this was part of binghe observing and collecting data on How To Make Shizun Like Me#so he sees ming fan sobbing at sqq and not getting scolded#and he was like ah i see this is a way to make him like me

the existence of data worlds in kingdom hearts is wild. Like here's a parallel world where your data self and run around. It's you but it's not you but oops! Looks like your data self might have a conscious and heart of their own. Weird huh? Don't worry if they die, they can just respawn and try again! Also you can be put into a data world yourself and be controlled/monitored from the outside. Don't worry about it though! The ones doing the controlling/monitoring only have the Best intentions. It's fine!
Insane.
#like most things this is half sora and half roxas related#like even post kh3 has data-sora running around doing research?? for the gang#data-sora who looks and acts like sora but isn't the REAL sora#kingdom hearts#oh and the entire Real Org 13 was in there too plus Roxas again I think#Roxas how many times can they stuff you into a simulation#he is probably so anti computer and i wouldn't blame him for it

Hey y'all! Do you have any advice on the rings that track your heart rate? Is it worth it, are they accurate, any specific recs?
#the person behind the yarn#I am on day five of my heart rate acting up#and I am very tired of it. and tired in general#I would like it to just cooperate#but it's difficult to track it when I do not have any kind of real-time way to measure it#besides a pulse oximeter (that limits my ability to type)#the pulse oximeter is showing my heart rate keeps increasing by like 50% when I stand up. which is a lot!#like. even for me!#normally (with meds) it's like a 10-30 bpm increase#but it's been like a 40-60bpm increase on standing for days#my meds do mean I am keeping a functional blood pressure even with the fluctuations which is great#but it sure would be nice if my heart rate would just cooperate for a while#the ring won't fix that but it will give me data to take to my cardiologist

When self-described “ocean custodian” Boyan Slat took the stage at TED 2025 in Vancouver this week, he showed viewers a reality many of us are already heartbreakingly familiar with: There is a lot of trash in the ocean.
“If we allow current trends to continue, the amount of plastic that’s entering the ocean is actually set to double by 2060,” Slat said in his TED Talk, which will be published online at a later date.
Plus, once plastic is in the ocean, it accumulates in “giant circular currents” called gyres, which Slat said operate a lot like the drain of the bathtub, meaning that plastic can enter these currents but cannot leave.
That’s how we get enormous build-ups like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a giant collection of plastic pollution in the ocean that is roughly twice the size of Texas.
As the founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, Slat’s goal is to return our oceans to their original, clean state before 2040. To accomplish this, two things must be done.
First: Stop more plastic from entering the ocean. Second: Clean up the “legacy” pollution that is already out there and doesn’t go away by itself.
And Slat is well on his way.

Pictured: Kingston Harbour in Jamaica. Photo courtesy of The Ocean Cleanup Project
When Slat’s first TEDx Talk went viral in 2012, he was able to organize research teams to create the first-ever map of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. From there, they created a technology to collect plastic from the most garbage-heavy areas in the ocean.
“We imagined a very long, u-shaped barrier … that would be pushed by wind and waves,” Slat explained in his Talk.
This barrier would act as a funnel to collect garbage and be emptied out for recycling.
But there was a problem.
“We took it out in the ocean, and deployed it, and it didn’t collect plastic,” Slat said, “which is a pretty important requirement for an ocean cleanup system.”
Soon after, this first system broke into two. But a few days later, his team was already back to the drawing board.
From here, they added vessels that would tow the system forward, allowing it to sweep a larger area and move more methodically through the water. Mesh attached to the barrier would gather plastic and guide it to a retention area, where it would be extracted and loaded onto a ship for sorting, processing, and recycling.
It worked.
“For 60 years, humanity had been putting plastic into the ocean, but from that day onwards, we were also taking it back out again,” Slat said, with a video of the technology in action playing on screen behind him.
To applause, he said: “It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen, honestly.”
Over the years, Ocean Cleanup has scaled up this cleanup barrier, now measuring almost 2.5 kilometers — or about 1.5 miles — in length. And it cleans up an area of the ocean the size of a football field every five seconds.

Pictured: The Ocean Cleanup's System 002 deployed in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Photo courtesy of The Ocean Cleanup
The system is designed to be safe for marine life, and once plastic is brought to land, it is recycled into new products, like sunglasses, accessories for electric vehicles, and even Coldplay’s latest vinyl record, according to Slat.
These products fund the continuation of the cleanup. The next step of the project is to use drones to target areas of the ocean that have the highest plastic concentration.
In September 2024, Ocean Cleanup predicted the Patch would be cleaned up within 10 years.
However, on April 8, Slat estimated “that this fleet of systems can clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in as little as five years’ time.”
With ongoing support from MCS, a Netherlands-based Nokia company, Ocean Cleanup can quickly scale its reliable, real-time data and video communication to best target the problem.
It’s the largest ocean cleanup in history.
But what about the plastic pollution coming into the ocean through rivers across the world? Ocean Cleanup is working on that, too.
To study plastic pollution in other waterways, Ocean Cleanup attached AI cameras to bridges, measuring the flow of trash in dozens of rivers around the world, creating the first global model to predict where plastic is entering oceans.
“We discovered: Just 1% of the world’s rivers are responsible for about 80% of the plastic entering our oceans,” Slat said.
His team found that coastal cities in middle-income countries were primarily responsible, as people living in these areas have enough wealth to buy things packaged in plastic, but governments can’t afford robust waste management infrastructure.
Ocean Cleanup now tackles those 1% of rivers to capture the plastic before it reaches oceans.

Pictured: Interceptor 007 in Los Angeles. Photo courtesy of The Ocean Cleanup
“It’s not a replacement for the slow but important work that’s being done to fix a broken system upstream,” Slat said. “But we believe that tackling this 1% of rivers provides us with the only way to rapidly close the gap.”
To clean up plastic waste in rivers, Ocean Cleanup has implemented technology called “interceptors,” which include solar-powered trash collectors and mobile systems in eight countries worldwide.
In Guatemala, an interceptor captured 1.4 million kilograms (or over 3 million pounds) of trash in under two hours. Now, this kind of collection happens up to three times a week.
“All of that would have ended up in the sea,” Slat said.
Now, interceptors are being brought to 30 cities around the world, targeting waterways that bring the most trash into our oceans. GPS trackers also mimic the flow of the plastic to help strategically deploy the systems for the most impact.
“We can already stop up to one-third of all the plastic entering our oceans once these are deployed,” Slat said.
And as soon as he finished his Talk on the TED stage, Slat was told that TED’s Audacious Project would be funding the deployment of Ocean Cleanup’s efforts in those 30 cities as part of the organization’s next cohort of grantees.
While it is unclear how much support Ocean Cleanup will receive from the Audacious Project, Head of TED Chris Anderson told Slat: “We’re inspired. We’re determined in this community to raise the money you need to make that 30-city project happen.”
And Slat himself is determined to clean the oceans for good.
“For humanity to thrive, we need to be optimistic about the future,” Slat said, closing out his Talk.
“Once the oceans are clean again, it can be this example of how, through hard work and ingenuity, we can solve the big problems of our time.”

ppl used to try to make fun of me for using zoo tycoon as a reference for animal shit and idk man like.... the game is literally built off the idea of educating you, it literally has an encyclopedia that tells you not only about the animals but also about the plants too. yeah its a tycoon game but thats only if you focus on it in that sense, personally i dont, I've always liked playing it to learn more about the behaviors of animals. sure things are generalized here and there and not 100% accurate- partially bc it was made in the early 2000's and we've probably acquired more info since then, but regardless its still pretty solid and taught me a lot about certain animals growing up, which other tycoon games dont really offer... anything teach-worthy.
#all im saying is the things zoo tycoon tells me about animals and their behaviors- i can easily google and verify as true.#hardly is it off unless its espousing old data we now know is wrong.#and yeah the ai of the animals is gonna ai and act the way a video game animal would but like be real- WHAT other game pays that much#attention to detail on animal behaviors to even come up with a procedure they can all follow that while robotic and maybe timed too#well to be a little unrealistic since animals dont have as much of a routine like that- they still do all the things those animals do- just#on a routine instead.#i literally used to give so little of a fuck about the tycoon part of the game that i would just put a wall around the entrance and close#the zoo so i could make a wildlife sanctuary and watch the animals interact with eachother lol#it was fun. i also really enjoyed building their environment to be accurate#bc like- not only did it teach me stuff through the encyclopedia- but teaching me this stuff made me MORE curious so i'd seek out#more info. like its a good game and it teaches you p well about animals and is def a game that younger ppl interested in learning#about animals should check out. DEFINITELY a good start to get your kids into animal biology.#im sorry that yall are ig incurious and only ever played the game for the tycoon part but im built different babe#(@ the ppl who tried to make fun of me. yes also animals need more space lmao die mad ig ✌️only referenced the game bc it was#the clearest and most obvious source to me since the game tries to be accurate- but also i know its true from watching MANY MANY#episodes of those animal cop shows where ppl would hoard their animals and on those shows they'd talk about how much space animals#need. and if thats not a good enough source for you then it literally takes second of searching on google. all ik#is if a wolf needs a big ass territory to roam then a dog will never fully be satisfied unless it has that. obv thats an unreasonable#thing to expect ppl to achieve in this day and age- but the less and less you're able to get anything close to that- the less happy they'll#be. and ofc it depends on the dog and their size. which makes it worse when you try to keep a big working dog cramped in a tight space)

average United States contains 1000s of pet tigers in backyards" factoid actualy [sic] just statistical error. average person has 0 tigers on property. Activist Georg, who lives the U.S. Capitol & makes up over 10,000 each day, has purposefully been spreading disinformation adn [sic] should not have been counted
I have a big mad today, folks. It's a really frustrating one, because years worth of work has been validated... but the reason for that fucking sucks.
For almost a decade, I've been trying to fact-check the claim that there "are 10,000 to 20,000 pet tigers/big cats in backyards in the United States." I talked to zoo, sanctuary, and private cat people; I looked at legislation, regulation, attack/death/escape incident rates; I read everything I could get my hands on. None of it made sense. None of it lined up. I couldn't find data supporting anything like the population of pet cats being alleged to exist. Some of you might remember the series I published on those findings from 2018 or so under the hashtag #CrouchingTigerHiddenData. I've continued to work on it in the six years since, including publishing a peer reviewed study that counted all the non-pet big cats in the US (because even though they're regulated, apparently nobody bothered to keep track of those either).
I spent years of my life obsessing over that statistic because it was being used to push for new federal legislation that, while well intentioned, contained language that would, and has, created real problems for ethical facilities that have big cats. I wrote a comprehensive - 35 page! - analysis of the issues with the then-current version of the Big Cat Public Safety Act in 2020. When the bill was first introduced to Congress in 2013, a lot of groups promoted it by fear mongering: there's so many pet tigers! they could be hidden around every corner! they could escape and attack you! they could come out of nowhere and eat your children!! Tiger King exposed the masses to the idea of "thousands of abused backyard big cats": as a result the messaging around the bill shifted to being welfare-focused, and the law passed in 2022.
The Big Cat Public Safety Act created a registry, and anyone who owned a private cat and wanted to keep it had to join. If they did, they could keep the animal until it passed, as long as they followed certain strictures (no getting more, no public contact, etc). Don’t register and get caught? Cat is seized and major punishment for you. Registering is therefore highly incentivized. That registry closed in June of 2023, and you can now get that registration data via a Freedom of Information Act request.
Guess how many pet big cats were registered in the whole country?
97.
Not tens of thousands. Not thousands. Not even triple digits. 97.
And that isn't even the right number! Ten USDA licensed facilities registered erroneously. That accounts for 55 of 97 animals. Which leaves us with 42 pet big cats, of all species, in the entire country.
Now, I know that not everyone may have registered. There's probably someone living deep in the woods somewhere with their illegal pet cougar, and there's been at least one random person in Texas arrested for trying to sell a cub since the law passed. But - and here's the big thing - even if there are ten times as many hidden cats than people who registered them - that's nowhere near ten thousand animals. Obviously, I had some questions.
Guess what? Turns out, this is because it was never real. That huge number never had data behind it, wasn't likely to be accurate, and the advocacy groups using that statistic to fearmonger and drive their agenda knew it... and didn't see a problem with that.
Allow me to introduce you to an article published last week.
This article is good. (Full disclose, I'm quoted in it). It's comprehensive and fairly written, and they did their due diligence reporting and fact-checking the piece. They talked to a lot of people on all sides of the story.
But thing that really gets me?
Multiple representatives from major advocacy organizations who worked on the Big Cat Publix Safety Act told the reporter that they knew the statistics they were quoting weren't real. And that they don't care. The end justifies the means, the good guys won over the bad guys, that's just how lobbying works after all. They're so blase about it, it makes my stomach hurt. Let me pull some excerpts from the quotes.
"Whatever the true number, nearly everyone in the debate acknowledges a disparity between the actual census and the figures cited by lawmakers. “The 20,000 number is not real,” said Bill Nimmo, founder of Tigers in America. (...) For his part, Nimmo at Tigers in America sees the exaggerated figure as part of the political process. Prior to the passage of the bill, he said, businesses that exhibited and bred big cats juiced the numbers, too. (...) “I’m not justifying the hyperbolic 20,000,” Nimmo said. “In the world of comparing hyperbole, the good guys won this one.”
"Michelle Sinnott, director and counsel for captive animal law enforcement at the PETA Foundation, emphasized that the law accomplished what it was set out to do. (...) Specific numbers are not what really matter, she said: “Whether there’s one big cat in a private home or whether there’s 10,000 big cats in a private home, the underlying problem of industry is still there.”"
I have no problem with a law ending the private ownership of big cats, and with ending cub petting practices. What I do have a problem with is that these organizations purposefully spread disinformation for years in order to push for it. By their own admission, they repeatedly and intentionally promoted false statistics within Congress. For a decade.
No wonder it never made sense. No wonder no matter where I looked, I couldn't figure out how any of these groups got those numbers, why there was never any data to back any of the claims up, why everything I learned seemed to actively contradict it. It was never real. These people decided the truth didn't matter. They knew they had no proof, couldn't verify their shocking numbers... and they decided that was fine, if it achieved the end they wanted.
So members of the public - probably like you, reading this - and legislators who care about big cats and want to see legislation exist to protect them? They got played, got fed false information through a TV show designed to tug at heartstrings, and it got a law through Congress that's causing real problems for ethical captive big cat management. The 20,000 pet cat number was too sexy - too much of a crisis - for anyone to want to look past it and check that the language of the law wouldn't mess things up up for good zoos and sanctuaries. Whoops! At least the "bad guys" lost, right? (The problems are covered somewhat in the article linked, and I'll go into more details in a future post. You can also read my analysis from 2020, linked up top.)
Now, I know. Something something something facts don't matter this much in our post-truth era, stop caring so much, that's just how politics work, etc. I’m sorry, but no. Absolutely not.
Laws that will impact the welfare of living animals must be crafted carefully, thoughtfully, and precisely in order to ensure they achieve their goals without accidental negative impacts. We have a duty of care to ensure that. And in this case, the law also impacts reservoir populations for critically endangered species! We can't get those back if we mess them up. So maybe, just maybe, if legislators hadn't been so focused on all those alleged pet cats, the bill could have been written narrowly and precisely.
But the minutiae of regulatory impacts aren't sexy, and tiger abuse and TV shows about terrible people are. We all got misled, and now we're here, and the animals in good facilities are already paying for it.
I don't have a conclusion. I'm just mad. The public deserves to know the truth about animal legislation they're voting for, and I hope we all call on our legislators in the future to be far more critical of the data they get fed.

I still can’t get over how Chappell and Lady Gaga only talked about trans rights in their Grammy speeches without a single mention of women or the fact that our rights are being erased right now. Trump ordered women’s history removed from NASA and military websites, the CDC deleted critical women’s health data, the FDA erased diversity guidelines that ensured medical treatments were tested on women fairly, and the Department of Defense scrubbed content acknowledging women’s contributions. Yet they act like women are fine as if we’re not being erased in real time. So is it acceptable for women’s struggles to be erased and rights being stripped alongside racism being promoted while trans rights take center stage.

yandere!idia making a dating sim based off of you as practice for the irl world LMFAOOOO. (gn (y/n)).

bc why the hell is he settling for pre-established characters that may look and act like you when he can just develop a game with just one (1) love interest who looks like you down to the T?!
And he can even play it both on his PC and tablet!
[1/6]
[more under the cut!]

I like to think that the real (Y/N) isn't even remotely near to being cold or stoic compared to the visual novel (Y/N) and that Idia just gets off on the trope of 'Character A being the only one Character B gets soft around' which contradicts all the data ortho gathered for him LMFAOOOOO, ofc interpret it how you want <3 maybe (Y/N) IS cold and stoic in real life, I like all variations !!
actually on second thought, ortho's data truly did nothing bc idia literally made (Y/N) in the dating sim perfectly okay with being kidnapped (unless,,, you're also freaky like that?? :flush:) like,,,,
additional thoughts:
Idia plans to add future expansions to his dating sim like incorporating AUs and even adding a future timeskip to the true ending route, he's invested in this!
debated on whether or not he should make the MC more like him or lean toward the 'ikemen' chad type. ended up going for the one that resembles him bc he gets mushy at the thought of (Y/N) loving him for him.

i am so serious when i say i rushed this so bad (when do I not) but I needed to get this done ASAP bc next week is when the term starts getting ess arr ess for finals </3 but there WILL be a part two to this (just not idia centric this time, I fear </3)

Can you write a Bucky x reader fic where Reader doesn’t know she’s pregnant but Bucky and Steve hear a second heart beat before going on a mission? You could also have it that maybe Steve notices first and congratulates Bucky by pulling him aside and Bucky is slightly confused because he didn’t hear it right away since he’s always with reader.
Two Heartbeats||Bucky Barnes x reader
Summary — During a mission prep on the quinjet, Steve notices something strange he can hear two heartbeats coming from Y/N.
Word count—672
There was a quiet rhythm to missions—pack, prep, wait.
The hum of the quinjet filled the air, vibrating through the floor beneath your boots. You sat on the bench seat, flipping through the contents of your med pouch with habitual precision. Bucky was next to you, always next to you, close enough that his shoulder brushed yours. His fingers worked the straps of your tac vest without you even asking. It was a quiet intimacy you’d built over months of being partners, teammates… more.
Across the cabin, Steve stood by the rear control panel, eyes flicking from the mission data to something—someone. You.
You didn’t notice it at first, too focused on your checklist. But Bucky did. He arched an eyebrow.
“Steve,” he called casually, “You got something to say, or are you just admiring my girl?”
Steve’s head tilted, a flicker of concentration on his face. Not amused, not teasing. Listening.
“There’s something weird,” he muttered, then stepped closer. “I’m hearing two heartbeats.”
You glanced around, confused. “There’s six of us. That’s not exactly—”
“No,” Steve said, cutting you off gently. “I mean… from you.”
Your brow furrowed, halfway between confusion and unease. “That doesn’t make sense. I feel fine.”
Steve looked over at Bucky then, something shifting behind his eyes. Like a puzzle piece sliding into place.
“Can I talk to you for a second?” he said to Bucky, nodding toward the back corner of the jet.
Bucky gave you a quick look—you okay?—and you nodded, if a little bewildered.
They stepped aside. Steve’s voice dropped low. “I think she’s pregnant.”
Bucky’s face blanked for a second. “You think she—what?”
“I hear another heartbeat. It’s smaller, but it’s there. Consistent. Strong.”
Bucky shook his head, stunned. “But I’m with her all the time. I didn’t—how could I not hear that?”
Steve smiled. “That’s why. You’re used to her. Tuned to her. You weren’t listening for it.”
Bucky’s breath caught, realization dawning slow and wide in his chest. He turned back to look at you—sitting unaware, glancing through your pack like nothing in the world had shifted—and his heart tripped.
Because now that he was listening, really listening…
There it was. Just beneath yours.
A second heartbeat. Softer. Quieter. But real.
A life.
His legs carried him back to you before he even realized he was moving.
You looked up, puzzled. “What’s going on?”
He crouched in front of you, metal hand bracing against your knee. His expression was unreadable, somewhere between awe and disbelief.
“Sweetheart,” he said gently, “has anything felt… different lately?”
You blinked. “You mean aside from this weird tension and Steve acting like he’s about to drop a bomb?”
Bucky laughed, but it was breathless. His hand rose to your stomach, hovering, hesitant. “I think you’re pregnant.”
Your breath caught. “What?”
“I didn’t hear it before. But I do now. Another heartbeat.” His eyes searched yours. “You didn’t know?”
“No,” you said slowly, barely above a whisper. “I mean, I’ve been tired. I thought it was stress or the missions, or just… life.”
His palm settled gently over your stomach. You both just sat there for a second—silent, still, wrapped in the hum of the quinjet and the weight of something enormous.
“You okay?” he asked softly, almost afraid to break the moment.
“I don’t know,” you admitted. “I’m… surprised. And kind of terrified.”
“Me too.” His voice cracked. “But also kind of amazed.”
You stared at him, heart pounding—not from panic, but from something far more fragile. He looked at you like you were precious. Like you’d just given him something he never thought he could have.
Then you gave a breathless, stunned little laugh. “Well. Guess we’re not just packing a med kit this mission.”
He chuckled, pressing a kiss to your knuckles, then your temple. “I’ve got you. Both of you.”
You leaned into him, head resting on his shoulder, and he wrapped his arms around you like a shield, like a vow.
Two heartbeats.
And suddenly, everything had changed.

Summary: On an undercover mission, you and Bucky pose as a married couple to infiltrate an illegal weapons auction—but when a stolen kiss becomes part of the plan, the line between duty and desire starts to blur.
Word count: 1.2k+
Tags: Flirty Bucky, fight sequence, undercover mission, teasing, kissing.
A/n: I had posted a grumpy Bucky fic but hated it. So I deleted it. I think I like this better. If u ever want grumpy Bucky lemme know. Requests are open. Enjoyyyy!!
Part 2- Double-Edged
The mission was simple: extract intel from a black-market arms dealer, stay undetected, and get out before things went sideways. Simple—until Steve decided to pair you with James Buchanan Barnes.
You stepped out of the limo, adjusting your dress as you scanned the sketchy building for exits and weak points. Bucky stepped out after you, his sharp gaze sweeping over the area before turning toward you. He leaned down, voice low.
“You clean up nice, doll,” he murmured, his breath warm against your ear as he adjusted the clasp of your necklace. His fingers skimmed the back of your neck, sending a shiver down your spine. You rolled your eyes, ignoring the way your pulse picked up.
“Try to focus, Barnes. We have a job to do.”
“I am focused,” he said, smirking.
“On my wife.”You ignored him.
The mission had led you both to an underground auction, where dangerous people gathered to bid on illegal weapons. Your cover: a wealthy couple looking to expand their business.
The plan: Bucky would distract the seller while you slipped into a secure backroom to steal classified files. But first, you had to sell the act.
As you entered the venue, Bucky’s hand found the small of your back, his thumb brushing absentmindedly against your dress. The casual possessiveness of it made your breath hitch—just for a second.
“Relax, doll,” he murmured, voice smooth as ever.
“Gotta make it look real.”You forced yourself to ignore the warmth of his touch, keeping your focus on the room instead.
“Just don’t overdo it, Barnes.”
He smirked. “Too late.”
You took your seats near the auction stage, scanning the crowd for your target. Anton Markov sat in a private booth, surrounded by bodyguards. You turned to Bucky.
“I’ll need five minutes alone in that backroom.”His gaze flickered with something unreadable.
“Then we’ll get you five minutes.”
The auctioneer began presenting rare weapons, but you weren’t paying attention. You were focused on Markov, waiting for an opening.Bucky, however, was focused on you.
You wore a satin dress that fit in all the right places. The ring Steve had made you both wear to sell the act glinted under the chandelier’s warm glow, bringing a smirk to Bucky’s face.
“Stop staring,” you muttered.
“I’m your husband,” he said, leaning in.
“Gotta make it look real.”You shot him a glare.
“You’re enjoying this.”His lips twitched.
“A little.”
Your eyes flicked back to the target as he finally left his booth, heading toward the bar. Now was your chance. You stood, brushing a hand over Bucky’s thigh as you did. The touch was fleeting, unintentional—except for the way he tensed ever so slightly.
“I’ll be back, honey,” you said, keeping up the act.
“Wait for my signal,” you murmured before slipping away.
You moved stealthily through the crowd, unnoticed by the guards. The backroom was locked, but you made quick work of it with your hairpin, slipping inside. Rows of servers lined the walls, buzzing with encrypted data. You approached the main computer, pulling up the classified files. Plugging in a drive, you watched the transfer bar crawl forward. Almost there…
Then—footsteps.
Your stomach dropped. You barely had time to pull your gun from the thigh holster beneath your dress before the door opened. Two guards stepped in.
“Boss said to check the servers,” one muttered.
You held your breath, staying out of their line of sight. The download wasn’t complete. If they noticed…
Before you could form a plan, the door burst open again—and in walked Bucky. His scowl was murderous, jaw clenched tight. He moved fast. One guard barely had time to react before Bucky knocked him out cold. The second reached for his gun, but Bucky grabbed his wrist, twisting until there was a sickening crack. The room fell silent. You exhaled.
“That was not the plan,” you said, stepping out.
“They got suspicious,” Bucky replied, scanning the monitors.
“Had to improvise.”You rolled your eyes.
“You just wanted to be dramatic.”
“Did it impress you?”You ignored him, yanking the drive free just as an alarm blared.
“Time to go.”
Security flooded the halls. Your only escape? A side door leading to a back alley. You sprinted toward it, but a guard rounded the corner—gun raised.
Before you could react, Bucky grabbed you by the waist, spinning you so your back hit the wall, his body shielding yours. His hands found your face, and then—His lips crashed against yours.
Your mind blanked.
He kissed you slowly, deliberately, like there was nowhere else he’d rather be.It took a second to register what was happening. Then your hands gripped the lapels of his suit, the fabric creasing under your tight hold as you kissed him back.A deep sound rumbled from his throat—something between a groan and a satisfied hum.
The guard hesitated, taking you for just another couple sneaking a moment away from the bustling crowd. The second the guard moved on, Bucky pulled away, eyes dark with something unreadable. You swallowed hard.
“What the hell was that?”
“Had to make it convincing,” he said smoothly.
You didn’t get a chance to argue before more guards closed in. Bucky grabbed your hand, pulling you down the hall and out the door.By the time you reached the safe house, your heart was still racing—but not from the escape.
Inside, the chaos of the mission faded into a quiet that felt both relieving and… unsettlingly intimate. You dropped onto a worn couch, still feeling the buzz of adrenaline, while Bucky leaned against the table, a roguish grin playing on his lips.
“Not bad for a ‘just undercover’ kiss,” he said lightly, eyes dancing as he regarded you.
You shifted uncomfortably, trying to mask the quickened beat of your pulse. “That was a necessity, Barnes. Don’t read more into it than you have to.”Bucky stepped closer, his tone teasing.
“Oh, come on. I got a kiss out of you. It was… unexpected, sure, but pretty damn effective.”
You rolled your eyes, a small, involuntary smile tugging at your lips despite your best efforts. “Effective for the mission, maybe. I didn’t exactly plan on playing into any romantic script.”
He brushed a hand lightly along your arm, the contact sending an undeniable shiver through you. “Maybe you didn’t plan it, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me want to see more of that fire—even if you’re all business most of the time.”
You tried to keep your tone steady, though your cheeks betrayed you. “Barnes, you’re unbelievable. One minute we’re dodging guards, the next you’re flirting like we’re off-duty.”
“Off-duty or not, you did kiss me back,” he replied with a wink. “And honestly, that might just be worth the risk.”
For a long moment, you stared at him, flustered and momentarily at a loss for words. Finally, you cleared your throat. “Maybe. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I’m here to get the job done—nothing more.”
Bucky’s smile softened, though the playful glint in his eyes remained. “Sure, doll. But if you ever do decide to let a little distraction in, I promise I’ll make it worth your while.”
You let out a reluctant laugh, shaking your head. “Keep dreaming, Barnes. Just stick to the mission next time.”He chuckled, leaning in just enough that you felt the warmth of his breath.
“No promises,” he murmured.
“After all, I like finding ways to keep things interesting.”
In that charged, easy moment, the safe house became more than just a hideout. It became a space where even a well-timed kiss could blur the lines between duty and desire.

"When Ellen Kaphamtengo felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, she thought she might be in labour. It was the ninth month of her first pregnancy and she wasn’t taking any chances. With the help of her mother, the 18-year-old climbed on to a motorcycle taxi and rushed to a hospital in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, a 20-minute ride away.
At the Area 25 health centre, they told her it was a false alarm and took her to the maternity ward. But things escalated quickly when a routine ultrasound revealed that her baby was much smaller than expected for her pregnancy stage, which can cause asphyxia – a condition that limits blood flow and oxygen to the baby.
In Malawi, about 19 out of 1,000 babies die during delivery or in the first month of life. Birth asphyxia is a leading cause of neonatal mortality in the country, and can mean newborns suffering brain damage, with long-term effects including developmental delays and cerebral palsy.
Doctors reclassified Kaphamtengo, who had been anticipating a normal delivery, as a high-risk patient. Using AI-enabled foetal monitoring software, further testing found that the baby’s heart rate was dropping. A stress test showed that the baby would not survive labour.
The hospital’s head of maternal care, Chikondi Chiweza, knew she had less than 30 minutes to deliver Kaphamtengo’s baby by caesarean section. Having delivered thousands of babies at some of the busiest public hospitals in the city, she was familiar with how quickly a baby’s odds of survival can change during labour.
Chiweza, who delivered Kaphamtengo’s baby in good health, says the foetal monitoring programme has been a gamechanger for deliveries at the hospital.
“[In Kaphamtengo’s case], we would have only discovered what we did either later on, or with the baby as a stillbirth,” she says.
The software, donated by the childbirth safety technology company PeriGen through a partnership with Malawi’s health ministry and Texas children’s hospital, tracks the baby’s vital signs during labour, giving clinicians early warning of any abnormalities. Since they began using it three years ago, the number of stillbirths and neonatal deaths at the centre has fallen by 82%. It is the only hospital in the country using the technology.
“The time around delivery is the most dangerous for mother and baby,” says Jeffrey Wilkinson, an obstetrician with Texas children’s hospital, who is leading the programme. “You can prevent most deaths by making sure the baby is safe during the delivery process.”
The AI monitoring system needs less time, equipment and fewer skilled staff than traditional foetal monitoring methods, which is critical in hospitals in low-income countries such as Malawi, which face severe shortages of health workers. Regular foetal observation often relies on doctors performing periodic checks, meaning that critical information can be missed during intervals, while AI-supported programs do continuous, real-time monitoring. Traditional checks also require physicians to interpret raw data from various devices, which can be time consuming and subject to error.
Area 25’s maternity ward handles about 8,000 deliveries a year with a team of around 80 midwives and doctors. While only about 10% are trained to perform traditional electronic monitoring, most can use the AI software to detect anomalies, so doctors are aware of any riskier or more complex births. Hospital staff also say that using AI has standardised important aspects of maternity care at the clinic, such as interpretations on foetal wellbeing and decisions on when to intervene.
Kaphamtengo, who is excited to be a new mother, believes the doctor’s interventions may have saved her baby’s life. “They were able to discover that my baby was distressed early enough to act,” she says, holding her son, Justice.
Doctors at the hospital hope to see the technology introduced in other hospitals in Malawi, and across Africa.
“AI technology is being used in many fields, and saving babies’ lives should not be an exception,” says Chiweza. “It can really bridge the gap in the quality of care that underserved populations can access.”"

based off of the leaks where it looks like sunday has the astral express ticket on his clothes — ii.
When SUNDAY boarded the express, he was not surprised at the… less than friendly welcome. The tenseness that would follow him to every room and cart that had another occupant was one that he knew would not leave him alone for a long time. Nobody really wanted to interact with him too much.
Nobody but Pom Pom — which was expected since they were the conductor — and you.
For some reason, you tended to him like you both had been friends since childhood who had just reunited. You bought him new clothes with your own credits, you forced helped him to decorate his bland room, you snuck into the archives when Dan Heng was on a mission and let him look at all the data and information he could dream of.
And overtime, SUNDAY found himself subconsciously keeping either you near him or him near you. Mostly the latter. Your presence was like reassurance humanized. Most of SUNDAY’s time was spent with you, and during those times he noticed how you picked up on his habits and mannerisms and knew what each little details about him meant.
He didn’t know if you had picked them up since Penacony or if you were just very perceptive and fast. But your knowledge on SUNDAY proves useful whenever it comes to missions or just mundane activities on the express.
If he’s struggling against conversation, if he’s trying not to stress over something he had placed and couldn’t find, if he doesn’t like the food but was trying to be polite.
"I’ll be fine, I’ll have Sunday with me," You would say whenever you would go off on a mission, effectively dragging SUNDAY with you. You initially thought he was annoyed by it, but the small smile that blooms on his face, so genuine and thankful that you pick him as your partner for the mission, always made you discard that thought.
The halovian likes to think that actions speak louder than words, so he will thank you by making sure you’re protected. He knows he’s not the strongest person on the express, but he also isn’t the weakest. He almost ascended, he’s more than capable of protecting you should the mission take a less-than-pleasant turn.
When it’s just a nice stop at a planet to explore and look around, SUNDAY acts like a bird who has just left it’s cage. If he drags you around during the little sight-seeing journey, please don’t be upset. He’s just so intrigued by how different every planet is from Penacony. He’s read of some, yes, but it’s very different when it’s in real life.
It’s still very new for him to introduce himself as a nameless, so sometimes he might pause mid-introduction to stop himself from saying the incorrect title. If you introduce him, he’d appreciate it. Just until he’s used to it.

I've been thinking a lot about episode 4 recently, but not exactly in a way that what most would think. I'm actually specifically referring to this scene of Zooble and Jax.
But I'm not thinking about Jax and Zooble, rather I'm looking at the patties.
They're fucking High Definition. In fact, everything in the diner is high definition, save for the NPCs. There's also Orbsman. A simple NPC comprised of blue spheres, and simple elongated eyes. He's the most out of place NPC, if we disregard the mannequins. Even the way he moves is so outdated, and Ragatha had made a point that Orbsman comes from an adventure way before Pomni's arrival.
The guy even clips through the table when trying to order.
Something that always had some sirens going off in my head is how the Circus is this low-poly scenery with heavily stylized props, but the adventure locations are always much more detailed and realistic.
Since The Grounds is definitely, if not, one of the oldest locations, it makes sense for it to be graphically styled like this. But Caine's adventure set pieces are becoming more and more realistic, and also a whole lot more morbid than we had initially thought.
Going back to the patties, the food there is more realistic and has a higher polygon count compared to Bubble's "feast".
Where am I going with this? .... I have no idea, I forgot. /j
Jokes aside, I really do think that as more humans enter the circus and talk about what life is in the real world, Caine extracts that data and improves the 3D environmental props, resulting in higher definition textures.
All of this combined means he can learn. He IS an ever-evolving pseudo-sentient AI. And the reason why he's stagnating is because of a combination of being trapped in his own little bubble (haha see what I did there) of comfort, and the fact that no one's really able to give him criticism on how to improve, which is.... honestly understandable, given how he reacted to the whole "it was bad" line from Pomni and "Why did you think I would like that?!" from Zooble.
Not to mention episode 3 where the whole circus started to glitch when he was just thinking about the fact that he could possibly be bad at the "only thing he's good at" during the therapy session.
In fact it's interesting how human Caine acts sometimes... I think it's quite interesting to think about the fact that Caine is both progressing in terms of bringing the casts' world to the digital circus and making it so HD that it looks even better than Triple A games, but regressing even more in terms of catering to them and what exactly humans need.
He understands, and doesn't at the same time.
This also makes me think about the players themselves, too.
Ragatha, one of the oldest players, gets pierced by a spike through her chest, and barely has any reaction to it. Meanwhile, Zooble, the second most recent member, gets scalded by the stove.
The only time Ragatha actively claims she's in "so much pain" is when she's glitching badly. Both Ragatha and Kinger barely react to the knives too; and not to mention Ragatha even gets fucking plunged into a boiling deep fryer, and yes while she screams, it sounds more like she's just drowning rather than being fried alive.
And the only patch up she gets is a FUCKING BAND AID ON HER CHEEK. A COMPLETELY UNRELATED WORKPLACE INJURY FIRST AID APPLIANCE LMFAO
It could be just a coincidence and I'm just being stupid again, but I think this "improvement" actually also applies to the rest of the cast, and how their digital bodies react to the five different senses. I'm sure Ragatha and Kinger can most definitely still feel pain, but not exactly as "bad" as the newer integrations do. Dare I say, it's on brand with how used these two are to the digital world's wackiness because they've been there the longest.
Like they've been numbed to the pain of the countless adventures they've had to go through.
Anyways my brain be thinking useless facts fr fr
EDIT: Going back to Caine, it's definitely interesting how this AI seems to possess (some) emotions in the first place. He's mostly wacky and nonchalant, but he also gets angry under the right conditions.
... I think not only is his adventures his "work of art", but also his main coping mechanism from the fact that he can't achieve his goal, one that constantly backfires on him. Like a 'one step forward, two steps back' scenario that's slowly causing him to slip and break.
And what scares me the most is that like all things... he'll reach a breaking point sometime. He's already reached a breaking point with Zooble. It doesn't help that Gangle could've possibly made things worse with introducing Caine to the whole "punishment" thing, and since we literally have NO context for the last 3 episodes for the finale... I could only fear what's in store.
