Stanley is an absolute asshole and that's one of my favorite parts about him. Like yeah we can talk about his hidden heart of gold and whatnot, how he subtly shows his care for the kids and for his brother, but, like. He's still an asshole.

He has beef with multiple children! (Gideon and Pacifica, at the very least). And he has a reason--- defending his family--- but it's still beef with children! He regularly scams travelers out large amounts of money! He doesn't pay his employees! He insults people to their face! Even if he's doing it out of projection love, he still gives Dipper the short end of the stick, like, all the time. He opens a potentially world-ending portal just to get back his brother--- that's an asshole thing to do!

And this isn't a critique of Stan at all. But his churlish asshole nature is a beautiful part of him that makes him a really fun character. Being a good character doesn't = being a nice character. I'd even argue him becoming nicer isn't--- shouldn't be--- a requirement for his character development post canon. This is a guy who's yelling at other boaters over the radio. This is a guy who undoes your boat's drain plug 'cause you insulted his brother. Stan's a rude, penny-pinching curmudgeon that his family insists is nice deep down because he is--- to them. He don't give a shit about anyone else!

Let Stan be mean, dammit. He deserves it.

can I say something controversial. shen jiu and shen yuan are both characters who are very much shaped by the environments in which they were raised, and those environments are fundamentally opposites. shen jiu is the way he is because he grew up as an orphan on the streets and suffered horrific abuse as a slave. shen yuan is the way he is because he was raised in relative comfort and privilege, with all the benefits that come with being the third son of a wealthy family in the modern era. I say this because in aus where they're brothers, one of them inevitably is going to end up in a fundamentally different upbringing, which is going to drastically change how they behave

this is not to discourage aus but rather to encourage using them as a way to analyze what changing something like this does to these characters. if you take out shen jiu's tragic backstory and give him a wealthy, privileged family, how does he act? how much of what we associate with shen jiu is inherent to his personality, and how much of it is because of his trauma? if you take shen yuan out of his comfortable life and make him an abused slave child, what will that do to him? will his kindness still be second nature? will he find new ways to act like a complete lunatic?

as a big fan of you Viago Posting I gotta ask, how do you think Viago feels/reacts to the news of Rook de Riva romancing each of the various companions? I feel like the guy would absolutely have Opinions on all of them lol

i keep receiving asks addressed like this as though i am some kind of Viago Whisperer, which i find both funny and an intimidating task. nevertheless i shall do my best.

i don’t think he would react well to any of the options here, but that’s not necessarily damning, because viago does not react well to basically anything. roughly in order from Least Viago Stress to Most Viago Stress:

1) emmrich seems, in banters with lucanis, to have been emboldened by lucanis’ confirmation that viago posssesses a rosseletto painting and gone on to actually discuss art with viago himself. (lucanis later lets emmrich know from viago that a painting he ordered for vorgoth’s benefit has come in.) emmrich is a man of culture with a very respectable necrotic damage specialisation. he comes from a politically powerful organisation that can defend itself, yet is not personally ambitious in a way likely to drag house de riva into trouble or use rook for his own ends. sure i think viago would make a little fuss about the age gap because he’s judgemental like that but i don’t think there would be much passion behind it

2) bellara’s bubbling questions and excitable nature would be personally a bit startling and maybe slightly grating to viago but i’m keeping her pretty high up because i think lucanis is right and that viago would eat up her knowledge about taste profiles for his usual Nefarious Purposes. once he realises she genuinely is asking questions about house de riva proprietary poisoning tactics for writing research, of all things, i think we can get these fantasy scientists chatting and then she’d charm him against his will.

3) taash’s general bluntness would startle viago even more. their interactions would be pretty hysterical, because taash is so straightforward and viago is so paranoid, and i think viago would leave all of them confused and slightly intimidated. if you send taash with the crows in the final battle, they and teia have a cute interaction about taash getting honorary crow rights, as a conclusion to lucanis and taash’s banters. so this has Teia Approval, which causes viago grumbling but does have a positive viago effect overall. the lords of fortune are friendly with the crows so i don’t think there are major occupational objections here

4) harding is an inquisition agent, which i think viago probably has both condescending and paranoid opinions about. i.e., the inquisition are a small band of fading influence but they also have a history of insane power grabs out of nowhere. neither of which are exactly what you want your protege to marry into. her inability to cook suggests very little skillset bonding. she’s an ordinary farm girl from ferelden and viago’s an antivan elitist so no discussion of their relative backgrounds is going to go very well. HOWEVER, there are saving graces here. she’s a rogue, which is the viago equivalent of dating someone who’s made good career choices. they briefly worked together in the comics with no issues and happily shook hands at the end. he would find her powers conceptually interesting. she’s the type of person to make an effort with in-laws. (hysterical image of her somehow getting viago to her ma’s house for a family gathering. his spindly legs not fitting under the dwarven table. him testing the world’s most earnest fereldan soup for poison. endless potential here.)

5) neve is a detective. viago is a poisoner and rook is his assassin. these are not particularly compatible life paths and i believe viago would point this out with increasing volume as nobody else seems to take issue with it. her canonical willingness to work with the crows would mollify him a bit. every other aspect of her life would not. maybe avoid her mentioning that she lives in a dock town apartment and makes no money because she’s too busy picking fights against impossible odds out of the goodness of her heart? like just don’t bring that up over dinner.

6) davrin made life choices against his own clan’s wishes, greatly approves when you knock his boss out cold, and has zero respect for the crows. davrin does not want viago’s approval. davrin cannot even pretend to want viago’s approval. viago thinks he has the right to be insulted. let alone the insult of his protege ending up with someone with the zero lifetime prospects of a grey warden monster hunter. does rook even know what happened the last time a crow lost their head over a warden? perhaps rook would like the crows to bury as many fifth talons as they did eighth talons! <- said in increasingly hysterical tones, as teia pats him on the back comfortingly while giving rook a thumbs up for picking out a handsome one

7) viago’s fairly sure you’re publicly dating the first talon because you want him personally in an early grave

everyone on here says that web!martin would have been the "better" ending when they find out that was his original plan but i, despite loving that martin can be manipulative, find the fact that the person who is at the end with jon, who stabs him to save the world, is the one person who loved him unconditionally, to be far more tragic and compelling.

martin never wanted to hurt jon, even in his domain talking with himself and believing he could never kill jon even if it meant dooming the world, but in the end with jon's eyes pleading for it to end so he doesn't have to see martin die, for the hope of something somewhere Else where it would all be worth it, oh martin could kill him for that

imagine your f/o noticing you're more tired than usual. they suggest things to help you sleep better at night. maybe some melatonin? maybe they buy you a new stuffed animal to snuggle with, or maybe they offer to sleep with you, if you don't usually.

"is there anything I can do to help you?" they ask, "would you like me to get you melatonin, or sleepy time tea? perhaps you just need someone to stay with you while your rest."

imagine your f/o comforting you if you struggle with fear surrounding sleep. maybe when you try to, you start experiencing paranoia, or intrusive thoughts, or maybe hallucinations. or maybe you're just simply scared of the dark and struggle to sleep in the pitch black.

"would something like a night light help?" they suggest, "or maybe youd like the TV to be on as you sleep? something to brighten up the room so you don't feel so isolated?"

whatever it is that bothers you, your f/o would do anything and everything to help and comfort you. they understand things can be rough sometimes, and they'll do anything to make you comfortable

Not sure on colors yet, but here’s my take on ac unity’s Maximilien Robespierre !

I really wish the game made him a more nuanced character than just an outright villain. Not saying he had to be a saint, but I would really have loved to see him as an ally that you couldn’t save in the end and see his paranoia grow throughout the game.

Notes: I designed him in mind to be analytical and difficult to read on the exterior so that could build up certain intrigue as well as give off the more popular, cold impression he has in general pop culture depictions. But surely enough, you can see there’s more to him the more you interact and learn about him. I also drew him younger than his design in the game because he honestly looked a bit too old for when he died at 36.

I don’t have a super realistic style or anything so a lot of my design choices wouldn’t work for the game’s realistic style, but this is my main reference for if I want to draw ac unity Robespierre some more (and mentally rewriting parts as I go). I’m not an expert or anything tho so take some (or most) of this with a grain of salt. I’m down for more research and reading recs for a more well rounded characterization of him btw !!

I had in mind to somewhat echo the gesture and some design details reminiscent of a bird or pigeon (since Robespierre was fond of pigeons irl), so the stiffer shape of his ponytail is meant to echo the fanned tail of a bird but it’s also a really clean cut like a blade just went through it. His ankles and wrists are also really slim for this bird-aspect reason.

He’s also got green tinted glasses for his poor vision, but if I were to bring this into color it’d be much darker to maintain the mystery around him depending on the shot.

I do like assassin’s creed’s little shoulder cape they gave him so I wanted to keep that !

Puddle doesn't have any grand ambitions to be honest. He just wants to hang out and be a bit too nosy. In fact, he might already be living his dream just by virtue of being around a large group of people who have tons of interpersonal drama to angst about all the time lol

😸: 3 fun facts!

- The reason he squints all the time is just that his eyes are really sensitive to light! He has a similar gene to that of the Topaz cat, which depigments the eyes specifically. That's also why they're such a pale blue and the pupils are all pink-ish! I imagine he probably has some level of visual impairment due to how intense the light sensitivity is, and his habit of squinting isn't helping that either

- He actually wasn't planning on staying in SporeClan long and really just came here to check the situation out. But after a while he decided he enjoyed it here so much that he settled down for the long haul!

- While, yes, he DOES enjoy himself some good ol people watching, a good amount of what his clanmates perceive as him staring at or watching them is honestly just him zoning out so unbelievably hard. Most of what he learns about others is by conversation, not actually by witnessing

💤: Are they a heavy or light sleeper? What are their dreams like?

Very, very light sleeper! In fact, so light of a sleeper that he can't fall asleep around loud sleepers. This leads to him being regularly found sleeping in hard to access and oddly out of the way places around camp by his clanmates

As for his dreams - I don't know! I feel like he'd probably be one of those people who just don't dream, or at least don't recall their dreams

I think he'd really enjoy pheasant! It's kind of a rare treat and he gets to enjoy it with multiple clanmates

It's nothing really special :') He was born a single kit to town cats, either strays, kittypets or either or. He doesn't really talk with or about them. Good luck getting any information about them at all out of him though lol he's a man with a death grip on his secrets no matter how trivial they are!

🧹: Favourite and least favourite clan task/chore/patrol?

He would probably really enjoy changing out the bedding in the dens! He gets to eavesdrop and stay in dim, temperate conditions. What's not to love?

Now he isn't really one to complain, and he's generally happy so long as he has some form of company. So I think his least favourite activity would probably be something like hunting alone? Especially during winter where it's cold, it's bright and the prey is scarce.
