It was 10:45, he had his drink, and that Thursday seemed to be passing slower than the rest of the week had. Colin sat at the bar across from where Alice bartending, Sam having disappeared off somewhere.

It was none of his business. He was one of the owners, he was probably auditing or something.

Their set didn't start for another forty-five minutes. He had time to wait.

"Why so glum, Becher?" he glanced over, seeing Alice looking at him, leaning on her elbows against the counter.

"I'm not 'glum', " he used air quotes.

"Right, because nobody could be glum drinking a 'Lavender Limoncello Spritz'."

Colin rolled his eyes, finishing off his drink. He did like it.

A lot.

He didn't take himself as a fan of floral drinks, but it had slowly grown on him.

"Where's Sam gone?" he asked after a moment.

"What, am I not good enough company?" she laughed. "He had to pop by the store and grab some limes. If people keep ordering margaritas, that's where all our budget's gonna go."

"Just curious." he shrugged, finishing his drink and setting the empty glass back on the counter.

"Hey, Alice." he glanced beside him, seeing a blonde woman sit down at the next barstool. She stuck out like a sore thumb in a nice blouse and a pencil skirt, a black headband holding her hair back.

Alice perked up, grinning. "Gwen!" she set the shaker she was holding down and walked around the bar, giving her a side hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Colin, this is my girlfriend, Gwen."

The woman—Gwen—squeezed Alice's hand lightly before looking at Colin. "You must be Colin." she stuck out her hand, and Colin shook it. What was it with people around here and handshakes?

"Nice to meet you," he was, admittedly, a bit caught off guard.

Mainly because this entire time he had thought Alice was dating Sam. And technically, she still could be. He didn't know what shite she was into these days, and frankly didn't want to know.

"Want your usual?" Alice asked Gwen, and she nodded. "Please."

She slipped back behind the bar, pulling out a wine bottle. "Some fancy Pinot Noir for my lovely girlfriend."

Gwen's face went a bit red. "Alice…"

Colin laughed slightly at the interaction as Alice poured the wine into a glass and passed it over the bar.

"Anyways since Sam is now out of vicinity of the pub I can say this," she started, looking back at Colin. "How's it been flirting with my best friend, Colin." It wasn't exactly a question.

"I haven't been flirting," he rolled his eyes.

"Oh yeah, sure, so there's some other sensible reason why you immediately go and get a drink from him once your set is over?" Alice smirked.

"Maybe he just makes a better drink than you."

She put her hands over her chest in mock offense. "You wound me, Becher." she dropped her arms. "Plus you absolutely are. I'm pretty sure he's flirting with you, too."

"He is not."

"He gave you a shot on the house yesterday."

"Half. And that was because there was some left in the thing."

"The shaker." Alice corrected. "Plus, my point still stands. He's into you. Tell him, Gwen." she looked back at her girlfriend.

Gwen sipped her wine. "Don't get me involved in this."

"Well regardless. He's into you."

"Who's into who?" Both of them glanced over, seeing Sam step behind the bar, a bag of limes in hand.

"Some guy Alec's 'bin talking to." Colin shrugged, answering quickly before Alice could say something.

She gave him a look before looking back at Sam. "Yeah. Some Aussie bloke from out of town."

"Huh." Sam glanced around. "Well, we're no longer without limes. Rejoice!"

Alice let out a small enthusiastic "woo" before taking the bag from him.

"Hey Sam," Gwen waved slightly, setting her wine down.

"Oh, hey Gwen. Didn't know you were coming by tonight."

She shrugged lightly. "I had some extra time."

Colin and Sam made brief eye contact before he saw Sam's gaze drop to his empty glass. "You want another?"

He glanced at his phone. 10:55.

Colin shook his head. "I shouldn't. Set starts in a bit."

Sam nodded, smiling at him. "Good luck."

Every time a sequel to anything comes out with a new cast of characters can we stop with the "[Character from sequel] is [Character from Original]!!!! [Character from Sequel] is [Sequel]'s [Character from original]!!" For the LOVE OF GOD.

They're NEW CHARACTERS.

That's the Entire Point, so stop putting them in boxes!! they're NEW CHARACTERS, so they'll have NEW functions and personalities and roles in the story!!! By only thinking about them in terms of which characters from the original they're most like, you're only setting up false expectations and making it harder to appreciate not only the characters but the Sequel as a whole, new, unique thing with it's own nuance and characters and arks etc etc.

Comparison isn't a bad thing, but I'm SO sick of seeing people saying "X is Y because they both [surface level personality trait/ story function/ game mechanic]", it's really not hard to come up with anything just a little bit more nuanced or imaginative than that

Gwen: "Just like that." Answering Alice’s questioning regarding her being given Lena's job.

Celia: "Sam will be okay." Comforting Jack.

Celia: " Mummy was okay, so he will be too." Still speaking to Jack.

Celia: "I recognize it from a case." Explaining to Alice how she knows anything about the tear.

Celia: "Something like that." Responding to Georgie’s joke asking if a spreadsheet caught fire.

Gwen: "It did not eat Collin!" Responding to Alice's fears that the computer ate Collin.

Gwen: "I'm sure that as long as we don't follow in his footsteps we can maintain business as usual." Trying to assuage concerns about using the computers.

Gwen: "I'll even add a competitive severance package, which I think is more than generous, given the circumstances." Giving the offer for Alice and Celia to quit.

Gwen: "Now if you don't mind, I am very busy." Dismissing Alice and Celia.
