The Life of The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh): First Migration, the Year of Sorrow, the Splitting of the Moon
Isra and the Miracle of Miraj (Ascension): Part 1
The Isra and Miraj, one of our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) greatest miracles, occurred on the 27th night of the month of Rajab, a year and a half before the migration (hijra.)
Jibril came that night and took our Holy Prophet (PBUH) from the Masjid-al-Haram to the Masjid-al-Aqsa on Buraq. Then, he was ascended to the skies so that he would be shown the wonderful activities and the signs that indicate the power of God Almighty one by one. He was allowed to meet all of the prophets in the layers of the sky. Then, the Messenger of Allah was taken to the station of Sidra al-Muntaha (Lote Tree). Then, he went up to the station of Two Bows’ Length (Qab Qawsayn) in the middle of possibility and obligation. He was shown many weird and bizarre things. He heard the speech of God Almighty, who is free from time and place, in a form that we cannot know or understand; and he saw His face. On the same night, he returned home.
God Almighty narrates this miracle, which is related to the personality of His beloved Messenger, as follows in the Quran:
“Glory to (Allah) Who did take His Servant for Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose precincts We did bless― in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the one Who heareth and seeth (all things)”
This verse also declares the wisdom behind the miracle Isra and Miraj.
The section regarding the Miraj in Badiuzzaman Said Nursi’s work entitled “The Words” states: “The Ascension is a question that results from the essentials and pillars of belief, and follows on after them, a light that draws strength from the lights of the pillars of belief. For sure, the Ascension cannot be proved independently to irreligious atheists who do not accept the pillars of belief, because it cannot be discussed with those who neither know God, nor recognize the Prophet, nor accept the angels, and who deny the existence of the heavens. Firstly those pillars must be proved.” Then, he answers the question, “What is the wisdom behind Miraj?” as follows, explaining the wisdom behind that great event:
“The wisdom of the Ascension is so exalted that human thought cannot comprehend it. It is so profound that human thought cannot reach it, and so subtle and fine that the intellect cannot see it by itself. But even if the reality of the instances of wisdom in the Ascension cannot be comprehended, their existence may be made known through certain indications. For example, as follows:
“In order to demonstrate the light of His Unity and the manifestation of His Oneness in these levels of multiplicity, the Creator of the universe took an eminent individual as representing all creatures from the furthest levels of multiplicity to the source of Unity by means of an Ascension that was like a link. And there, addressing him as representing all conscious beings, He explained to him the Divine purposes and made them known through him, and observed through his gaze the beauty of His art and perfection of His Dominicality in the mirrors of His creatures, and caused him to observe them.
Moreover, according to the testimony of His works, the Maker of the world possesses infinite beauty and perfection. The two of them, both beauty and perfection, are loved for themselves. Since this is so, the Possessor of that beauty and perfection has an infinite love for His beauty and perfection. That infinite love of His is manifest in many different ways in His works of art. He loves His works of art because He sees His beauty and perfection within them. The most lovable and elevated among the works of art are animate beings. And the most lovable and elevated among animate beings are conscious beings. And by reason of their comprehensiveness, the most lovable among conscious beings are to be found among human beings. The most lovable individual among human beings is the one who has most fully developed his potentiality and displayed the samples within it of the perfections manifested in all creatures, and spread among them. Thus, in order to see at one point and in one mirror all the varieties of His love spread through all creatures and to display, through the mystery of His Oneness, all the varieties of His beauty, the Maker of beings will take a person who is at the degree of being a luminous fruit of the tree of creation and whose heart is like a seed containing the essential truths of that tree, and will demonstrate the belovedness of that individual, who represents the universe, through an Ascension that is like a thread linking the seed, which is the origin, with the fruit, which is the end. He will draw him to His presence and honor him with the beauty of the vision of Himself. And, in order to cause him to spread that sacred state to others, He will favor him with His Word and entrust him with His Decree.
“In order to look at this exalted wisdom, we shall observe it through the telescope of two comparisons.
First Comparison:
As is explained in detail in the story-comparison in the Eleventh Word, there was an illustrious king who had vast treasuries and in those treasuries many varieties of jewels were to be found. He had much skill in strange crafts, comprehensive knowledge of innumerable curious arts, and erudition and learning in numberless wondrous sciences. And, in accordance with the mystery that every possessor of beauty and perfection wants both to see and display his beauty and perfection, of course, that skilful king, too, wished to open an exhibition and to set up displays within it in order to reveal to the people's gazes the majesty of his sovereignty, and to manifest both the glitter of his wealth and the wonders of his art and the marvels of his knowledge. He wished to do this so that he might observe his own transcendent beauty and perfection in two respects. The first was so that he himself might see with his own eyes, which were cognizant of reality, while the other was so that he might look through the gaze of others.
“As a consequence of this wisdom, he began to build a huge, splendid, extensive palace. It was magnificently divided into apartments and mansions. He adorned it with every sort of bejeweled treasure from his coffers, and decorated it with the finest and most gorgeous arts of his own handiwork. He ordered it with the greatest refinements of his knowledge and science, and decked it out and completed it with the miraculous works of his learning. Next, he spread tables with varieties of bounties and the most delicious of foods worthy for each group and prepared a general banquet. Then, in order to display his perfections to his subjects, he invited them to the banquet and to behold the perfections. Then he appointed one of them as the highest ranking general, invited him up from the lower levels and mansions to tour sphere after sphere in the levels rising one after the other. And, showing him the successive machinery and workshops of his wonderful art and the storehouses for the produce coming from below, he brought him to his own particular sphere and private apartment. There, he honored him through showing him the blessed person that was the source of all those perfections and taking him into his presence. He informed him of the true nature of the palace and of his own perfections. He appointed him as guide to the other spectators and sent him back to describe to the people the palace's Maker by means of its contents, inscriptions, and wonders, so that he should inform those who entered the palace of the allusive meanings of the inscriptions within it, what the works of art signified, and what the harmonious and well-proportioned inscriptions and works of art in its interior were, and how they pointed to the perfections and skills of the palace's owner. And so that he should teach them the correct behaviour and formalities in seeing the exhibition and describe the protocol and ceremonies which were in accordance with the pleasure and desires of the learned and skilful king, who did not appear.
“And in exactly the same way, and God's is the highest similitude, the All-Glorious Maker, Who is the Monarch of Pre-Eternity and Post-Eternity, desired to behold and display His infinite perfections and boundless beauty.
“So He made this world in such a fashion that each being utters His perfections with numerous tongues and points to His beauty with many signs. The universe shows through all its beings how many hidden immaterial treasures there are in each of His Most Beautiful Names and how many veiled subtleties in each of His sacred titles. And it shows this in such a way that, since the time of Adam, all sciences together with all of their laws have studied this Book of the Universe. But of that book only a tiny proportion of the meanings and signs which state and point to the Divine Names and perfections have been read. Thus, the wisdom of the All-Glorious One of Beauty, the All-Beauteous One of Glory, the Maker Possessing Perfection, Who opens the palace of the world as though it was an exhibition in order to see and display His own transcendent beauty and perfections, requires that He should inform someone of the meaning of the palace's signs so that they do not remain vain and without benefit for conscious beings on the earth. His wisdom requires that He should cause one of them to travel in the higher worlds, which are the sources of the wonders in the palace and are the treasuries of their results; that He should elevate him above all others, honor him with His close presence and cause him to tour the worlds of the hereafter, and entrust him with numerous duties, such as teacher to all His servants, herald of the sovereignty of His Dominicality, announcer of those things pleasing to Himself, and expounder of the signs of creation in the palace of the world; that He should mark out his pre-eminence by conferring on him the decorations of miracles, and should make known through a decree like the Qur'an that that person is the truthful personal interpreter of the All-Glorious One.
“And so, by way of example, we have demonstrated through the telescope of this comparison one or two of the many instances of wisdom in the Ascension. Others may be thought of in the same way.
Second Comparison:
“If a knowledgeable and skilful person was to compose and write a miraculous book, and on each page of the book were as many truths as would fill a hundred books, and in each of its lines as many subtle meanings as would fill a hundred pages, and in each of its words as many truths as would fill a hundred lines, and in each of its letters as many meanings as would fill a hundred words, and if each of the meanings and truths of the book were to look to and point to the transcendent perfections of its miracle-displaying writer, he most certainly would not leave such an inexhaustible treasury closed and thus worthless. He would surely teach it to some others so that such a valuable book would not remain meaningless and vain; and so that his own hidden perfections become apparent and find their perfection, and his transcendent beauty be seen; and so that he too should be pleased, and that he should make himself loved. Moreover, he would cause someone to go through that wonderful book from the first page to the last and teach him all its meanings and truths so that the person would then teach them to others.
“And in exactly the same way, in order to display His perfections, His beauty, and the truths of His Names, the Pre-Eternal Inscriber has written the universe in such a way that all beings set forth and state His infinite perfections, Names, and attributes together with their innumerable facets and aspects. Of course, if a book's meaning remains unknown, its value is reduced to nothing. But a book such as the universe each word of which contains thousands of meanings cannot lose its value or be made to do so. Since this so, the book's Writer will certainly make it known and explain a part of it to each group according to their capacity. And He will instruct in all the contents of the book the individual who has the broadest and most comprehensive view, the most universal consciousness, and the greatest ability. Wisdom requires that He should take the individual on a most elevated journey in order to teach him all the contents of such a book and its universal truths. That is, He should cause him to travel from the furthest extreme of the levels of multiplicity, which is the first page, to the sphere of Divine Oneness, which is the final page. Thus, through this comparison, to a degree you can look at the exalted instances of wisdom in the Ascension.”
Our Beloved Prophet’s (PBUH) Explanation of the Isra and Miraj:
The distinguished Sahaba recounted this miracle, which expanded beyond the bounds of time and space: One night when our Holy Prophet (PBUH) was sleeping at the Hatim section of the Kaaba, Hazrat Jibril came and slit his chest. After washing our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) chest with zamzam water, Hazrat Jibril filled his chest with wisdom and restored it to its previous state. Afterwards he brought a white mount, Buraq, had our Holy Prophet (PBUH) climb upon it, and escorted the Master of the Universe (PBUH) on the journey. Buraq’s leaps went beyond what the eye could see. Along with Hazrat Jibriil by his side, our Holy Prophet (PBUH) went to the Bayt-al-Maqdis. He saw all the prophets gathered there. He led them in prayer as they all prayed in congregation.
By leading them in prayer, it showed that our Holy Prophet (PBUH) was the inheritor of the origin of their Sharia (divine law.)
Three Cups That Were Offered
Three cups, one full of milk, the second full of sherbet, and the third full of water, were presented to our Holy Prophet (PBUH.) During this offering, our Holy Prophet (PBUH) heard a voice saying, “If he chooses the cup filled with water, then both he and his ummah will be free of any needs and will be content. If he takes the cup filled with sherbet, then he and his nation will fall into deprivation. If chooses the cup filled with milk then he and his nation will be given guidance.”
Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) took the cup containing milk and drank from it. Upon this Hazrat Jibril said, “O Muhammad, you have chosen the true and natural way. You have been given guidance, and so has your nation.”

The Love of a Cat, Chapter 44
“You should have heard her, Adrien,” Nino said from his seat next to Adrien’s bed. “You would have been so proud of her.”
Adrien smiled fondly. “Why does everyone think she needs to make me proud? She’s already made me proud.”
“I know, buddy,” Nino said dismissively. “But…this was the type of speech that would have made your father reconsider his stance on her. She took complete command in that room. Honestly, she was stunning.”
His heart sped up in his chest at the reverent way Nino described Marinette. “I wish I could have been there.”
A knock sounded against the door before it opened to reveal Jalil. “May I come in?”
At Adrien’s nod, Jalil entered. “How are you feeling?”
“Sore.” As long as Adrien stayed still, the throbbing in his side was manageable. It was only if he moved that it stung. “How did the meeting go? Nino was telling me Marinette certainly made an impression.”
Jalil gave Adrien a firm nod. “I never would have guessed she had not been brought up a princess. She spoke with such grace and authority. I was extremely impressed.”
Again, Adrien’s heart did little flips at hearing such high praise for his wife.
“However, it is you who will have to complete her promises.”
“What did she promise?” Adrien asked, ready to sign off or seal whatever she needed him to.
“To end this war immediately should the guards surrender their loyalty to Hawkmoth, which they more or less did after she threatened them.”
Adrien wasn’t sure how many more times it could have been stated, but he loved that woman. “Done. Nino; a lap desk, ink, and paper, please.”
He looked a little torn. “Are you certain you don’t want to take it easy for the moment?”
“I’ve had my moment to rest,” he countered. “Now I have a promise to fulfill. So, can I please have the desk, ink, and paper?”
While Nino’s questioning look proved he wasn’t sure Adrien was fully up to the task, he relented with a sigh.
“Your wife,” Jalil continued once Nino had shut the door, “also promised that there would be open communication between Paris and France. Peace treaties, even.”
“I am in full agreement,” Adrien quickly said. “While I can’t speak for my father, I promise you that I will cooperate with you to end this war. I doubt that either kingdom knows what caused the fighting, anyway. Uniting the kingdoms would be in the best interest for everyone, at this point.”
Jalil gave a single, curt nod. “While a nuisance that I don’t want to bother with, I will have to ask for your assistance writing up a public peace treaty and making a show of signing it since, clearly, a marriage union is out of the question.”
Adrien smiled, rubbing the ring on his left finger. “Clearly. Besides, Alix would never agree to marry me even if I was single.”
“Yes. She has her sights locked on someone else; I’m fully aware.”
This surprised Adrien, who raised a brow in silent question.
Jalil smirked. “I believe I knew Alix was infatuated with Kim before even she knew she was. Those two were chaos together, but if I’m being honest, I’ve always respected Kim. Despite his penchant for trouble, he was very honorable and trustworthy. He was also a very talented knight, one who could become a strong leader with time.”
“And a bit of self-discipline,” Adrien added.
“Yes,” Jalil amusedly agreed. “A bit of that. Something I had hoped his trip would teach him. I have yet to see what affect the last few years have had on him, but they seem to have done him well.”
“He’s a good man,” Adrien said, “As well as a skilled fighter. He’s proven himself to be worthy of all my respect.”
Jalil studied Adrien for a moment. “So tell me,” he eventually said. “If you had a sister, would you entrust her to him?”
“Is that your way of asking if I think he’s good enough for Alix?”
Jalil shrugged, but Adrien could speculate the answer.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because he loves her,” Adrien answered.
“That’s not good enough reason.”
“But surely you know Kim well enough to know how loyal and devoted he is to those he cares about.”
At that, Jalil was silent.
“That man took hits for me on the battlefield,” Adrien continued, “as well as a knife meant to kill me when an assassin broke into my own home. I trusted him to care for my house when I was away. He was respectable and kind with Marinette when she unexpectedly became my wife. He was there by Alix’s side, refusing to move, when she came to my home unconscious. He cared for her, running any errand she could think of, while she was on bedrest. And finally, when there was worry that this ring of mine would uproot you and Alix from the throne, he offered to marry her just so that he could ensure she would be safely taken care of. Frankly, Alix wasn’t happy when she learned that by remaining the Princess of France she wasn’t able to accept that proposal.”
Jalil mulled the words over, his gaze hitting the floor while he sank deeply into thought. Eventually, he lifted his gaze once again. “Your thoughts are noted. Thank you for your opinion. I wanted to know just what sort of man that Kim had become, and you’ve proven he’s grown into a good one.”
Adrien felt himself grin. “I hope that it means he is blessed with happiness after all. He was very jealous of my marriage as well as Plagg and Tikki’s.”
Before Jalil could answer, Kim burst through the door. “There you are,” he said, referring to Jalil. He then glanced over to Adrien before returning his attention to Jalil. “Perfect. I can tell both of you at once.”
Jalil’s eyes narrowed in worry. “What is it?”
“Plagg brought you two a present.”
It was Adrien’s turn to frown. “What sort of ‘present’?”
Kim’s smile was downright devious. “A brown-haired rat that goes by the name of Theo Barbot.”
It wouldn’t be for another few days that Adrien was well enough to stand so that Theo could face both him and King Jalil.
Theo himself limped from the injury that Adrien had given him. When the sentencing grew too long, Theo had to be supported by the two guards that had escorted him into the throne room.
By the end, Theo hung his head. Everyone in the room knew Theo was damned. The only reason for the deliberation was if Theo should be hung in France for his cooperation with “King” Hawkmoth as well as his aggressive intentions towards Princess Alix or if he should be dragged back to Paris in order to face King Gabriel. In the end, it was decided that his position as Lord Barbot meant that he had far more crimes against Paris than France, including treason, attempted murder of the prince, and attempted rape of the princess, just to name a few.
After the sentencing, Adrien had written a lengthy letter to his father describing that needed to be done about the prisoner that was being sent his way. While Adrien would have liked to return to Paris himself, he figured he would stay a few extra days to assist Jalil in establishing his new position as king as well as starting formal peaceful negotiations.
It had nothing to do with Marinette’s insistence that Adrien allow his injury to heal a while longer before embarking on their journey home.
“Nino.”
“Yes?”
Adrien held out the completed letter to his best friend. “I need you to escort Lord Barbot back to Paris. Give this to my father so that he knows what to do with that man.”
Hesitantly, Nino took the letter. “Are you certain?”
“Are you saying I shouldn’t trust you to take Theo?” Adrien sarcastically challenged.
“Not at all. I just thought you’d want to be there.”
Adrien sighed. “As much as I would like to, I can’t. There is business that still needs to be taken care of. Besides, I would feel safer if Theo traveled separately from the girls when they are escorted home.”
“That, I cannot argue with,” Nino said before a sly smile grew across his face. “But I’m not worried about Alya as long as she has a cooking pan.”
Adrien chuckled. “May I suggest you stay far away from any kitchen when you ask to court her.”
Nino grinned, but Adrien could tell he was nervous. “I will keep that in mind.”
A full week had passed by the time Adrien felt it was time to leave. He would admit that he was glad to have stayed as long as he did because he was proud to be present for the small ceremony for Kim.
“You never were officially knighted,” Jalil commented from his position on the dais. “But I believe it is far overdue. Kneel.”
Kim knelt before Jalil while Alix, who stood before her mother’s throne, watched with pride.
Jalil unsheathed the sword from his side. “Sir Kim Le Chien,” he stated loudly, tapping the sword on Kim’s shoulder. “I knight you the Noblest Knight,” he switched the sword to Kim’s other shoulder, “in all of France.”
It was very subtle, but Adrien noticed the way Kim stiffened under the title. Understandable considering that title was usually reserved for a member of the royal family.
Suddenly, Adrien was fighting to keep a straight face.
“You may stand.”
Kim did as asked, never wavering under Jalil’s firm gaze.
“Now,” Jalil said, sheathing the sword. “You possess the most honorable title a knight can hold. Do you understand the responsibility that comes with it?”
“Yes, sire,” he said. “I will uphold that title with the highest of honor.”
“Good. I will not stand for you doing anything less.”
“I will ensure you never regret such a decision,” Kim reverently swore, “and I will work my hardest to prove that to you.”
Jalil’s expression softened for a split second. “However, that title must also be proved to the kingdom,” he said, voice still as powerful as ever. “You must prove that you are honorable and steady. And that is most easily accomplished in the form of a marriage union.”
Alix tensed, her eyes widening ever so slightly.
“Sire?” Kim questioned, clearly confused and likely nervous himself.
Jalil was as stoic as ever when he nodded. “Yes. For that reason, I will arrange such a union that would be beneficial for you and the kingdom.”
Kim bowed his head, clearly ready to submit even though it was doubtful he wanted to. “Yes, sire. I am at your service.”
Even though she did a very good job at hiding it., Adrien could see evidence of Alix’s disappointment.
After glancing over at his sister, Jalil’s expression softened once again, this time permanently. “You are to marry Princess Alix Kubdel in order to ensure her safety and protection.”
The duo stiffened upon hearing Alix’s name, both wide-eyed as they shared a look.
“In such a turbulent time as this,” Jalil continued, “I want to ensure that the royal family is protected.”
Adrien couldn’t fight the smile that grew on his lips. It quickly earned him a gentle elbow in his ribs.
“You knew, didn’t you?” Marinette whispered.
“For about a week now,” Adrien returned just as quietly, albeit a bit smugly.
Marinette gave a quiet sigh, but didn’t say another word as she watched the scene unfold in front of her.
Instead of standing before Jalil, Kim was now kneeling before Alix, holding her hand in his as he asked for her hand in marriage.
It surprised no one when she gave him a bright smile and said yes.
“I’m sad to see you leave,” Jalil admitted. “I grew used to having you around.”
“We’ll keep in close enough touch that it will hardly feel as though I’m gone.” Adrien said, shaking Jalil’s outstretched hand. “Besides, we’ll be back to witness the wedding. I’m certain that it will be the only thing Marinette talks about for weeks.”
It earned him a jab in the ribs from his wife, but it only caused him to grin.
Jalil chuckled. “Well, I wish you all a safe, quick, and uneventful journey home.”
“Thank you,” Marinette said.
With one last bow good-bye, Adrien and Marinette made their way to the carriage Jalil had graciously loaned to them for the trip home. Plagg hopped out of the driver’s seat so as to hold the door open for Adrien and Marinette. “Thank you, Plagg,” they both said.
He nodded in return.
Adrien assisted Marinette into the carriage before following himself. Plagg shut the door behind them, and Adrien took his seat beside Marinette facing forwards in the carriage. Tikki and Alya were already inside, the latter working on some sewing project while the former rested her head on the side of the carriage. Adrien frowned. Even in the warm morning light, Tikki looked pale.
With a snap of the reins, the carriage was off, and Adrien couldn’t deny just how good it felt to know that they were finally heading home. Marinette waved out of the window, garnering a wave from Alix in return. Adrien grinned at the friendship that had bloomed between those two as well as thanking the heavens that Alix had come into Marinette’s life to help shape her into the incredible woman she had become.
By the time the castle was out of sight, Adrien allowed his head to fall backwards and his eyes to drift shut. Marinette slipped her hand into his, and immediately he felt the wedding band on her hand.
Which reminded him…
“I believe I promised you a wedding when we got home.”
He cracked an eye open so he’d be able to see her reaction. The way her surprise turned to excitement was priceless. “That you did. And I eagerly await that.”
“Hold on,” Alya cried, her sewing hastily forgotten. “When what that decided?”
Marinette gave her friend a sheepish look. “Before Adrien left, he decided that we would have a public ceremony once he returned.”
Alya seemed to bubble over with excitement and in no time at all, the duo were engaged in excited chatter over the details of the event. Adrien had no problem allowing Marinette free reign on what she wanted. He was far too focused on how adorable her excited expressions were, anyway.
Suddenly, Marinette’s happiness fell. “Tikki, are you all right?”
All eyes turned to Tikki and the way she clutched her stomach.
“Tikki?” Adrien repeated.
When she placed a hand over her mouth, he smacked the roof. “Stop the carriage!” he hollered.
The second it came to a stop, Tikki threw open the door and bolted, only to empty the contents of her stomach behind one of the trees.
“Oh, poor Tikki,” Marinette cooed, watching Tikki from the window.
“I had hoped we would make it home before these symptoms started to show,” Alya commented.
“What symptoms?” Adrien asked as he watched Plagg walk over to Tikki. He rubbed her back as she finished her heaving, providing support for her to keep standing.
When the girls remained silent, Adrien turned to face them. “Girls?”
The girls each looked sheepish. “Well…”
“Marinette,” he warned.
“Tikki’s pregnant,” she admitted.
Adrien’s eyes widened. “She’s pregnant? You dragged a pregnant woman into a war zone?”
“It’s not like we knew when we started out!” Alya defended.
“She only realized it soon after we arrived,” Marinette completed. “We wanted to keep it secret until we got home because we were worried how Plagg would react.”
“Well, it’s a bit late for that now,” Adrien commented. He glanced out the window to where Plagg was somehow yelling at Tikki while cuddling her protectively. Clearly, she had told him, and Plagg was reacting about as well as Adrien suspected he would. Tikki would just have to be patient with the way Plagg couldn’t decide hold her at arm’s length or pull her close for hugs and kisses.
“They’re so sweet,” Alya commented.
“There really couldn’t be a better woman for Plagg,” Marinette agreed. “And Tikki couldn’t have found anyone who could rival how much Plagg cares about her.”
While Adrien wasn’t certain he would define the scene as sweet as much as it was Plagg flying in to a justified panic, he’d not ruin the girl’s opinions. After all, if it was Marinette who was the one pregnant, he’d likely be acting the same as Plagg.
Suddenly, his heart picked up its pace. “Marinette?”
Her brow furrowed at his tone. “Yes?”
He hesitated. “You…you would have told me if you were…”
Understanding his unfinished question, her posture relaxed, and she gave him a sweet smile. “Honestly, if I were in Tikki’s position, I probably would have done the same. Especially considering you were injured, you didn’t need to worry about me.” She squeezed his hand in reassurance. “But that’s a moot point for us.”
Adrien felt the next breath come a little easier.
Eventually, it seemed Plagg had settled for holding Tikki firmly against him, arms wrapped around her tight as he rocked her back and forth. Considering Plagg’s head was pressed against the side of Tikki’s, Adrien guessed that he was probably calm enough to be able to share a happy moment with his wife over what really was wonderful news. They stayed like that for a while before Plagg swooped Tikki up in his arms and returned her to the carriage.
“You listen to me,” he told Tikki, his tone somewhere between loving and warning. “The moment you begin feeling sick again, we stop. If you need us to slow down, we’ll slow down. If—”
“Plagg,” Tikki interrupted. “I’m fine. But if I need anything, I’ll say so, all right.”
His lips pursed in uncertainty as he gently put Tikki down in front of the carriage. “All right.”
Tikki gave him a smile and a brief kiss. “I love you,” she whispered.
Plagg lowered his head so their foreheads touched. His voice was barely audible, but Adrien still heard it. “I love you, too. I just want you and this little baby of ours to be safe.” Plagg’s hand lowered to touch Tikki’s abdomen, as if he could feel the baby there.
“We will be. You’ll see.” Tenderly, Tikki patted Plagg’s cheeks before she turned to enter the carriage. Plagg offered all the assistance he could before flashing Tikki one last smile as she took her seat.
Plagg shut the carriage door then hopped back up to the driver’s seat, shaking the carriage in the process. When he snapped the reins, starting the horses going again, Adrien gave Tikki a grin. “I hear that congratulations are in order.”
When Tikki smiled, it was as though she was glowing. “Thank you,” she said, her hands cradling her still flat stomach. “I didn’t expect to start a family so early, but I’m not complaining.”
“I am,” Marinette said, her tone and smile proving she was teasing. “It means you won’t be my lady’s maid for much longer.”
“I’m more than happy to fill that role,” Alya volunteered.
“I’m not invalid,” Tikki objected.
“We know that,” Marinette assured with a wave of her hand. “But deny that you want to settle down with Plagg in your own home so you can be fully devoted to your little one once it’s born.”
The carriage was silent as Tikki pressed her lips into a thin line.
Marinette only grinned. “See? So I just want to spend time with you while I can.”
The girls continued their conversation while Adrien soon grew lost in his thoughts. For all Plagg and Tikki had done for him, he wanted to ensure that they would have a home to call their own. While he had once had a spot picked out, it no longer seemed good enough. However, the idea that soon came to mind had him grinning, and it was definitely big enough for the five children Plagg had said Tikki wanted.

Hello. This is a queued post. By the time this thing is sent out into the codes of the Internet, I will be resting peacefully inside of my bathroom,. A knife will be protruding out of my body, and my darling will be nestled safely inside of my arms. I refuse to say that I am dead, though many people will perceive this note as if I was. I do not want to indulge on why this predicament has come so soon, but I have better things to say. Think of this as a will of sorts. A set of tasks that I have to be completed before I can be fully content with myself. I have a few things that I want to happen after this note is sent, so please carry them out for the sake of me. First of all, Jak. Please treat him with the utmost of respect. He is (and will always be) the second love of my life. My darling said that it was okay for me to share my heart out to people other than her, under the condition that I spared it equally among people whom I love most, and that I still continued to love her, so this is not cheating in any shape or form. If I can manage to give my best to two people at once, then being nice to someone should not be that hard. Secondly, inheritance money. Under no condition should this money be distributed and spent on items of any kind. Not even taxes. Goodness, don’t even acknowledge my tax’s existence. In all due seriousness, don’t give my money out. Keep it safe inside of my home. Finally, remembrance. Since you, a stray reader, have come across this will, I will entrust you with something that holds the highest of values to me. Do not forget me. Do not forget that I have existed. Do not forget my darlings, Cynthia and Jak. Do not forget that I am a person. Do not forget what I have done to help my peers as a whole. This is not selfishness. This is my will. Please do your best to carry these out. It pains me that I have to settle a great weight upon your shoulders, but I’m sure you will do fine.

Among the articles I wrote for our school newspaper these past three years, my most successful ones have been on the topic of education / the education system. As a person who has increasingly become disillusioned with the way school’s operate, I have a couple of thoughts. This may end up a little vague and I may go back to explore these ideas in more detail when I have more time.
First things first, my parents used to be teachers back in Belarus, and they often tell me about rules they had and how their schools worked. A lot of my thinking is influenced by them and their stories, in addition to personal experience.
Communication
One thing that American schools as a whole seem to lack is effective communication between teachers. I have seen this again and again, and it’s a shame considering that It’s an issue that can be fixed without bureaucratic measures. Why do teachers still have a difficult time communicating with one another? Countless times, I’ve had teachers schedule tests and quizzes on the same day, leaving students studying for three whole different topics, rather than focusing on carefully understanding one. My dad said when he used to teach, he would talk to the other teachers and they would plan their schedules out in accordance to one another to ensure that the students would not have an overload of work. While I cannot attest that lack of communication is a problem in every single individual American school, I can certainly say that just a couple weeks ago, our IB coordinator walked into our TOK room because our class snapped under pressure and some students were on the verge of tears. When we told her about the mountain of projects and tests, she seemed surprised, and even our TOK teacher decided to move one of her deadlines, because she was previously unaware of the pressure we were under.
Personally, communication between teachers is probably one of the biggest problems in any school system. Teachers should talk with one another and plan their assignments out; if not, at the very least, be ready to change the dates of certain assignments.
Of course, some things cannot be helped -- teachers cannot move standardized test days, and sometimes the speed of the lesson needs to quicken in order to have time to cover all the right material. Of course, that leads to another problem.
Standardized testing // allowing teachers to teach what they want
Standardized testing. A lot has been said on the topic already. Some countries such as Finland manage to get amazing marks without a lot of standardized tests; other countries get equally impressive marks with a lot of these tests (China). Whether or not standardized testing works depends on different factors, such as how the government operates, how the tests are structured, etc.
For example, the United States is a federalist form of government, meaning that power is shared between the federal and state governments. Largely, education has been a state issue, meaning how schools prepare their children for these tests and even the tests they take differ.
In terms of how the tests are structured, let’s talk about my friend who I will call “V.” V is in higher level classes. V has passed multiple AP tests. V wants to work in the film industry. As we all know, the SAT tests people on math and reading. Now, tell me, what does math and reading have to do with working in the film industry? English is not V’s first language -- he speaks Hindu and Spanish. He is not so bright in math. But if you’d seen the videos he produces, the editing work he does, even the scripts he writes, you could easily tell that this is a bright kid. His SAT score is certainly not bad in the slightest; in fact, it would probably be considered in the upper quartile. Nonetheless, in comparison to most our peers in this particular program (IB), his score seems a little...weak, to say the least. Some colleges rejected him as a result of his testing, which does not reflect the skills he will use later in life. Why should we consider this fair? Obviously, all people should know rudimentary math and reading; however, why should they be judged solely in those two categories?
At the end of the day, the real question we are trying to find is whether or not the state should give more control to the teachers in the classroom. Standardized testing limits what a teacher may teach due to time constraints.
Bad teachers / respect for teachers
And now, let’s bring our focus onto teachers. I have become highly disillusioned with teachers, especially this year. Here are a number of things I have witnessed:
1. A teacher “predicting” what our grade will be on a test and putting it in the grade system as our final grade for the assignment (essentially giving us a grade for something we have not actually done; and she wasn’t kind about it either; I got a C)
2. a teacher claiming we have to learn six chapters in three days and proceeding not to do a single thing to help us learn in class; instead he gave us a pop quiz and told us to read the book (hint: if we can replace you with a plant and have it not influence the class in the slightest, perhaps you need to do some teaching!)
3. A teacher telling us that the highest we can get on an assignment was a 70 and if we wanted something higher, we had to an “optional assignment”
4. A teacher taking off an entire letter grade because a student wrote the wrong class period on the header.
5. A teacher pausing a student in the middle of a presentation to yell at the student for seeming “too nervous” (how does yelling and humiliation help?)
6. One of my teachers accidentally taught the wrong curriculum for an entire three quarters before finding out that what we were doing was wrong. (I don’t blame the teacher too much -- this was actually a rather complicated situation).
7. A chemistry teacher who sat at her desk eating snacks while she played videos of her teaching, rather than teaching in person.
Now, all of this makes us students want to bang our heads against the wall; especially number 2 and number 6. The same teacher from #2 never read a single one of our essays (problematic, considering this is an AP / IB class) and instead has us peer score every single time. Nobody studies for his class because he curves every assignment so that a student with a D gets an A.
Should students not demand better? One of the issues with teachers, I believe, is that one does not necessarily need a teaching degree to teach; just a degree in the particular subject area. But at the end of the day, knowing a subject does not mean knowing how to teach it. Some people may disagree. Some people may say, a true sign of knowing is being able to teach. But teaching in itself is another art form. It involves communication. It involves a little bit of psychology. It involves knowing how to explain concepts in ways you may not have thought of before (A visual learner may not think to incorporate auditory details, for example). A person may be an awesome biologist, but that same person may not be an excellent communicator (outside of a research paper, that is). A person may be an awesome biologist, but that person may understand little about how an art/literature student may learn concepts. Knowing a subject well does not mean teaching a subject well. To say so insults the very art of teaching.
Another problem when it comes to teachers is a lack of overall respect for the profession. My AP Gov teacher (a really awesome man) was telling us a story about attending his wife’s party with her co-workers.
Someone asked him, “Hey, what do you do for a living?”
He said, “I teach high school government!”
That person frowned. “I’m so sorry!”
“Why are you sorry?” my government teacher asked, confused. “I love my job!”
And that story conveys a giant problem. People in general assume that teaching is a bad job. That we should feel sorry for those who teach. If you look at the amount that teachers get paid, you can tell that the job isn’t as highly valued as it should be. Teachers are entrusted with the entire future. They are tasked with educating future politicians, future surgeons, future historians, future writers, future academics, future working class people who may change living standard for the better. Why should we not pay teachers more? Why should we not make it harder for people to become teachers (increase the required training or make it better) while at the same time paying them more?
Students do not respect teachers too much either. That may be a sentence young people do not like to hear, because we feel cheated in the education system many times. But it’s true that many students do not respect teachers. I am a student; I have seen how the worst of us can behave. My favorite teacher (I’ve had her for all three years now and will have her next year too) talks quite frankly with me, and she always talks about students who put in no work all quarter and then have the audacity to call her and blame her for their grades.
I am quite lazy -- I really am. But I do my work, and I have never had anything below a A in her classes; and the one I’m taking at the moment is an IB class.
However, respect is a two-way-street. To say that students are respected would be a lie. Otherwise, we would be listened to more when it comes to problems that directly affect us.
The ultimate point is -- respect for teachers needs to increase, but we should also cut down on teachers who don’t know how to teach. These solutions seem obvious, but implementing the necessary actions to put them into place certainly isn’t.
Taxes / wealth
A big point to mention -- taxes. I had any power in this government, I would not have schools be funded by taxes. In order to learn, students should have the resources to do so. How can an underfunded school possibly compete with a suburban, rich school? The education system creates cycles by constantly valuing the rich and punishing the poor.
If you have money, here’s all the things you can do:
-Live in a nice area with well-funded schools
-Buy a tutor for the SAT
-Have enough money to be well-fed; no worries about food
-Buy all kinds of educational programs (rosetta stone, etc)
-Buy more books
-Get invited to go to interesting educational summer camps, and go
-Clubs (basically no clubs are free)
All these things contribute to college applications and success. But what about the student who struggles in math and cannot afford a tutor? What about that student who lives in a poor area and struggles to learn because of underfunded and stressed teachers? What about the student who has to turn down many opportunities simply because that students cannot afford it? What about the student that can’t afford to pay a fee to participate in dance club?
What about those students?
Is it not evident then that those students are put at a disadvantage, and that they never had equality to begin with? Is it not evident that those students will have a harder time getting to a brighter future?
Here’s some ideas I have seen around that I have not thought too much about, but I do want to look into:
- Religion’s affect on schools (the US has a long history of Protestantism / Evangelicalism; those who structured our schools may have been influenced. It would be interesting to see how religious thought has played into our education system)
-schools shaping students for labor / a career rather than education / useful life skills
- I would really love to learn about an anarchist’s point of view of the education system. I believe that most anarchists would be pro-education, but they typically are anti-system (anti-authority), right? How would people be educated in an ideal society? (this is mostly curiosity)

How Am I Doing?
by Anyen Rinpoche
It has been almost fifty years since many lamas of my parents’ and grandparents’ generation crossed the borders of Tibet and changed the spiritual face of the West forever. The early students of Tibetan Buddhism here in the United States, now my adopted home, are advancing both in their practice and in their years. While death can surely arrive at any moment, for many the truth of impermanence is just now beginning to dawn with some clarity, with some certainty. The true test of their faith and practice is beginning.
While there is much debate and legitimate concern about how Buddhism has adapted to the West — and vice-versa — it seems timely and useful now, regardless of our age, to focus on our personal progress since taking up the Buddhist path. How have we changed? How have we worked with obstacles that have arisen along the way? Have we slipped back into any unwholesome habitual patterns and not even noticed? What kind of faith do we find in our hearts right now? What is our current commitment to practice? Where do we want to be as dharma practitioners at the time of our death?
These are not just rhetorical questions. Please ask yourself these questions right now. Take an honest look inside and recognise what you need to do to fulfill your spiritual aspirations in whatever time you have left. All of these questions together are what is meant by the question, What is your dharma vision? What kind of practitioner are you truly willing to become so that the moment of death fulfills the hopes you have for enlightenment — or at the very least your hopes for a rebirth that allows you to continue your practice and be in the presence of authentic teachers again?
Just as all of us make great effort to maintain our everyday lives, we should make similarly great effort in our preparations for death. If we are living and practicing the essence of the dharma teachings, there should be no difference between our spiritual practices while we are living and those that we engage in at the time of death. One practice that we all share on the path, no matter what other teachings we have received or practices we have committed to, is training in mindfulness to ensure that in our last moments we will be able to make good use of our death.
We all seek to be the best human beings we can be. And regardless of our beliefs, death will come to all of us. Everyone can benefit from preparing for death as a spiritual practice. Additionally, if we learn how to support a loved one while they are dying, we will be giving them a great gift by helping them fulfill their own spiritual aspirations.
THE NEED FOR A DHARMA VISION
Many of us on the Buddhist path have heard from our teachers that “the path is the goal” and that we should cut through any attachments to results. This is most true specifically on the path of meditation; we should not have hope for any particular experiences or signs of realisation in our meditation. Hungering for such experiences will only bring us obstacles. Nevertheless, without earnest self-reflection and a vision for ourselves as practitioners, we will not really know how to take up the path.
In Tibet, few monks and nuns receive the teachings of Dzogchen, and even fewer laypeople are introduced to them. Here in the West, we expect the highest teachings to be given freely even if we have made little effort in the foundational practices. But it is the yogis who spend years training their minds, using self-reflection as a tool to further their progress, who become the highly realised practitioners.
We must be careful about having only the appearance of a dharma practitioner. Some students who have received many teachings tell me they are “on and off” practitioners; they “sort of” practice and have little experience. Sometimes they are very passionate about their practice for a short period of time. They may burn like fire, but then something or other happens and they stop practicing. They lack certainty about what is the perfectly pure path. We need to abandon this habit of being an “on and off” practitioner. If we let our energy get too high, we can expect a counter balancing low to follow when we lose our enthusiasm. Thus, in terms of dharma practice, having a tempered passion is a more useful quality.
Because it is so easy to deceive ourselves about our practice, it is very important to have a relationship with a spiritual friend who will help cut through any self-deception. But we must do our part to be prepared for and to nurture such a relationship; we must be diligent in our practice and have a realistic idea of our spiritual goals. Self-reflection can bring a new level of trust and mutual respect to an established relationship with a teacher by demonstrating that we are suitable spiritual “vessels,” worthy of receiving profound lineage teachings. We can transform our outer trust in the three jewels — in the Buddha, in the teachings, and in the community of noble practitioners — into authentic confidence that develops unshakeable faith in the Buddhist path to enlightenment.
I consider the dharma vision, what we might call our spiritual aspirations, to be an evolving meditation on living and dying. It makes no difference what stage of life we are in. Practitioners need a guide for living as well as for dying that we can skillfully rely on during our lives as well as at the moment of death.
It’s also important to include others in our dharma vision. Many of us, wishing to increase our expressions of loving-kindness and compassion, also want to help friends, loved ones, pets, and strangers alike die with the same opportunities for a “good death” that we wish for ourselves. If we do have the wish to help others through the dying process, we must first train ourselves to understand how our own lives move toward death. We must gain knowledge and wisdom about the process of dying that will enable us to use one of the most important moments of this incarnation wisely. Then we can make a serious commitment to becoming practitioners who take responsibility for accomplishing the vision of helping ourselves and others to die well.
THE DHARMA WILL, ENTRUSTED DHARMA FRIENDS, AND THE DHARMA BOX
When we understand the importance of the dying process and the potential we have for liberation during and after our death, it will be easy to see how essential it is to prepare properly for death. I would like to plant seeds here first for the idea of a dharma will and also for what I call entrusted dharma friends.
I encourage students to form core groups of entrusted dharma friends who agree to help each other through the dying process according to the wishes written down in each person’s dharma will. The dharma will allows us to record our spiritual directives, so family and friends will know the kind of death we wish to experience and how it can be accomplished. Our entrusted dharma friends should at least be familiar with phowa [the transference of consciousness at the time of death] and other Buddhist practices. Once each person has written a dharma will, he or she can share it within the core group as part of training in recognising the signs of death, mastering phowa, and learning how to skillfully help someone through the dying process.
Entire sanghas, or spiritual communities, can also pledge to help entrusted dharma friends within their community fulfill their commitments. Each core group will need others from the spiritual community to assume some of the tasks involved in supporting the dying person’s wishes, such as informing the sangha about appropriate prayers and rituals, practicing phowa together, and helping with funeral arrangements. This will be a wonderful way to strengthen our spiritual relationships and gain confidence in using the dying process for spiritual practice. Once we are skilled in phowa, a monthly or bi- monthly group practice session can support the entire community’s effort.
I also advocate creating a “dharma box,” an actual box which will contain everything we and our entrusted dharma friends will need to help us through the dying process. The dharma box will include copies of our dharma will and legal papers, ritual items, dharma practice texts, and instructions for family and friends. Once the dharma box is complete, we can return to our dharma vision and engage fully in the practices we have committed to through the creation of that vision, with the assurance that we have put everything in place for the time of death.
CREATING YOUR DHARMA VISION THROUGH CONTEMPLATION
There are many traditional meditations on death and impermanence in the foundational practices of all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. We can think about how the seasons change and how the elements of the world around us transform; we can look at how our bodies have changed from the time we were born until now; we can contemplate how our minds are constantly transforming. Reflecting on impermanence is the best way to prepare ourselves for the moment of death. Please take some time to reflect on the contemplations below.
Here, I will suggest some specific questions for you to contemplate. It would be best to set aside a personal retreat day or weekend without interruptions for these practices, or to do this with your entrusted dharma friends in a group retreat. You may want a journal to write down insights and ideas that arise as you do these practices. Some students have also found journaling helpful in tracking their progress in meditation and conduct over a period of a month or so and they use that as a basis for further reflection. You should decide what tools will help you the most in making this assessment of your dharma practice.
Again, I encourage you to take an honest look at yourself as a Buddhist practitioner on the path. Sit quietly and cultivate a proper motivation. Generate bodhichitta — the wish to become enlightened in order to help others attain enlightenment. I suggest you begin by reading one of the contemplations below to yourself several times. Take time to consider it fully, keeping your mind focused but open to all ideas that arise. When you feel ready, rest in meditation free of reference points for as long as you can. When you finish your meditation, if you like, take time to write about your insights and experiences. Then continue with the next contemplation in the same way.
When you’ve thoroughly explored each of the contemplations below, you can begin to incorporate what you have learned about yourself as a practitioner into your dharma vision. Even if you have been practicing for a long time, you may be surprised at what you find lacking in your practice when you have taken an honest look. Many of my students find great inspiration in this process to increase their diligence and to focus on areas needing attention. Don’t forget to practice compassion for yourself. Appreciate the past efforts you have already made and include the efforts you are willing to make to become the excellent practitioner you have envisioned.
One of the biggest obstacles we might find we have as practitioners is that we lack a sense of urgency about the need to practice. This is caused by our strong experience of self-attachment. Self-attachment is expressed in many different ways. For example, we might think, “Let me just enjoy my life right now; let me enjoy this particular moment.” We put off practice for a later time, which we fail to realise may never come. The best time to practice, the best time to prepare for the reality of death, and the best time to clarify our own dharma visions, is the present. Don’t waste a moment.
Having a sense of urgency about practice could cause us to overestimate ourselves, or to want to skip over the hard work of developing a solid and stable base of daily practice. As you create your dharma vision, make an effort to balance idealism with realism. We may all wish to be great yogis like Milarepa or Longchenpa, but our capacity is more likely to be one of an ordinary practitioner. So we should reflect realistically on where we are now in our practice and what kind of practitioner we wish to become that is not beyond our reach. We must be honest about our capacity and realistic in our goals. As I have stated above, we must also continually be mindful of life’s impermanence and the reality of impending death. We may not have all the time we think we will have for practice.
We can aspire to such goals as receiving profound instructions from authentic teachers of all lineages and gaining experience and certainty in their meaning and in the primordially pure view of Dzogchen. We can always aspire to increase our bodhichitta and can do so by daily employing such practices as tonglen, in which we take in the suffering of others and send out positive wishes for healing and happiness in exchange. We all should wish to become proficient at practicing phowa for ourselves so that we may use it effectively at the time of our deaths, to die without regrets and with altruistic motivation for our next life. We may wish to become a practitioner who can sit with confidence with people who are dying and support them during the dying process. We may think about how we may help our teachers accomplish their dharma activities and where we can contribute our talents.
Regardless of how we regard our talent for writing, we can all compose an aspiration prayer for the time of our death and include it at the end of the dharma vision. We can read this aspiration prayer before sleep each night so its meaning fully enters our hearts. Then, as we are dying, an entrusted dharma friend can read this to us to remind us of what we are trying to accomplish and of our bodhichitta. A copy of this prayer can be kept in our dharma box, and buried or burned with us after we die.
IDEAS TO CONTEMPLATE
CONTEMPLATE IMPERMANENCE FROM THE OUTER POINT OF VIEW
Reflect on how your outer environment has changed during the past year. Recall how the seasons changed: how the plants, flowers, and trees transformed over time; how the daylight increased and decreased. Think about it in terms of your own personal living environment and throughout the globe as well. Think about the natural catastrophes that occurred around the world. Reflect on all the births and deaths of people, animals, and insects. Allow the enormity of these changes to reach you on a deep level until you feel with certainty that not even one thing remained the same.
CONTEMPLATE IMPERMANENCE FROM THE INNER POINT OF VIEW
Imagine yourself as a small baby. See the physical changes you have gone through until now. Sometimes looking at photos of yourself from childhood to the present can be a poignant way to examine your own physical impermanence. Look at the transformation that has occurred in you physically. Then think about your physical being from last year until now, from last month until now, from yesterday until today. See that your body is changing even from moment to moment.
CONTEMPLATE IMPERMANENCE FROM THE SECRET POINT OF VIEW
Reflect on the wild nature of your own mind. Remember yourself as a child and how your intelligence developed over time. Look at how your mind changes moment by moment as it fills with entertaining distractions or follows after different sensory experiences. Contemplate how you are constantly transforming mentally and how the mind is also impermanent.
CONTEMPLATE YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
Reflect on your daily practice. Are you practicing regularly and for as long as you would like? Are you able to incorporate all the practices you wish to master into your daily practice? Reflect deeply on what type of practitioner you really want to be. What are the obstacles that stand in your way? Think about any tendencies you have that prevent you from practicing in this way. What is the main cause? Identify the things that cause you to put off practicing.
CONTEMPLATE THE IMPERMANENCE OF THINGS TO WHICH YOU ARE ATTACHED
If you are attached to material objects in the world around you, reflect on their changing nature. If you are attached to a person, reflect on him or her growing old and dying. Actually envision his or her physical and mental changes. If you are attached to your own life, as we all are, go through your body from the ends of the hair on your head to the tips of your toes and try to find anything that is lasting or permanent in your body. Do a very thorough examination, looking from outside to inside to see if you can find anything that is unchanging. Do this until you are confident that you, too, are actually going to die, and that you cannot hold onto this life forever.
CONTEMPLATE THE SIX PARAMITAS, OR TRANSCENDENT ACTIONS
Starting with this past month’s practice of generosity, look at how you practiced during the past month and how you have integrated practice into your daily life by examining how you have expressed generosity. Were you able to give love, emotional support, or material goods without attachment? Was your heart open unconditionally? If you compare this month to the previous month, was your generosity different or the same? If you compare last year to this year, have you been more generous? Less generous? The same? If you are the same, what will you do to increase your expression of generosity? If you have been less generous, reflect on why have you changed.
CONTEMPLATE THIS PAST MONTH’S SPIRITUAL PRACTICE IN TERMS OF THE REMAINING PARAMITAS
In the same way, examine your progress in virtue and morality; patience and tolerance; diligence and enthusiastic effort; meditative concentration; and wisdom. Take time to look at each quality and how you express it in your daily life. If you find yourself lacking in the expression of these enlightened qualities, make a plan to work on them. For example, make an effort to stay mindful of one quality over the next month and look for ways to enhance it. You will find many opportunities. Over time you can become habituated to remaining mindful and increasing the practice of each quality. You will find your daily practice improving greatly.
CONTEMPLATE THIS PAST MONTH’S SPIRITUAL PRACTICE IN TERMS OF ANGER
It is very important to similarly contemplate your recent expressions of anger and resentment. These are the hardest to purify. Compare your expressions of anger and resentment in the past to how you feel currently. As a general trend, is it becoming easier to let go of them and generate compassion? If not, how will you work on this? Again, focus on anger or resentment by remaining mindful as these emotions arise. Work with any methods you have been given to cut through afflictive emotions. If this is difficult for you, ask your spiritual friend for advice.
CONTEMPLATE THIS PAST MONTH’S SPIRITUAL PRACTICE IN TERMS OF THE VIEW
If you have received instructions from your teacher on abiding in the view, or the nature of mind, assess your progress during the past month. Were you able to remember to abide in the view one hundred times a day? Twenty-one times a day? Three times? Have you increased the number of times you remembered to practice? Has it become easier? If not, how will you improve your practice?
CONTEMPLATE THE IMPORTANCE OF MASTERING THE MIND
Your mind must deal with every experience. Think about how attaining mastery over the mind will enable you to lose any fear of death. Come to the certainty that you must master your mind in order to die with confidence.
CONTEMPLATE THE DEATH OF A PET OR ANIMAL YOU LOVE
Imagine that an animal you love very much is ill and close to dying. Or, considering what is happening in our world today, think that the last of an entire species you love is about to die. Recognise that animals have no way to take care of themselves spiritually or mentally in this situation. It is not that they do not want to; they are simply incapable of doing so. With compassion for their suffering, also reflect on your good fortune in being born as a human being who can take care of yourself emotionally and spiritually at the time of death.
CONTEMPLATE THE DEATH OF A PERSON YOU LOVE
You may have already experienced the death of someone you were close to. Perhaps they did not have all the spiritual support they needed to die without fear or regret. If so, recall the experience of their death and again reflect on the good fortune that you are able to prepare well for your own death. If you have not had someone close to you die, imagine the death of someone you love and reflect deeply on your wish that they will experience no suffering and have all the support they need to die mindfully.
CONTEMPLATE THE CAUSES AND CONDITIONS THAT LED TO YOUR BIRTH AND WILL LEAD TO YOUR DEATH
Recognize the long chain of positive and negative actions that brings you to this very moment. Search for a deep understanding of karma, causes and conditions, and how you can affect your spiritual path with mindful actions from now until death. Then consider the type of practitioner you wish to be at your death and what kind of spiritual support you will want from others. Take time to imagine yourself in the dying process. Do you have the confidence to die well? Are you ready?
Also, reflect on the idea that you may die suddenly, or during an accident. How can you be spiritually prepared for that experience?
CONTEMPLATE DIFFICULTIES WITH YOUR DEATH
As you imagine yourself dying, do any obstacles arise in your mind that would prevent you from having the kind of death you wish? What are they and what can you do to remove them?
CONTEMPLATE YOUR IDEAL DEATH
What will your mind be like? What qualities will you have developed? What practice will be most important for you to do or hear at that time? Who do you want to be there to help you stay focused on your practice as you are dying?
CONTEMPLATE YOUR LEVEL OF PRACTICE
What changes do you need to make in your daily practice to best ensure you become the type of practitioner you want to be?
CONTEMPLATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH A SPIRITUAL FRIEND
If you have had the good fortune to meet and make a strong connection to a lama or spiritual teacher, reflect on this relationship and what it is like now. Have you developed the kind of relationship you envision? If not, what can you do to develop this relationship further?
REVISING YOUR DHARMA VISION
The dharma vision is a living and evolving meditation. We are always changing and growing in our understanding. I recommend that each year, perhaps at the new year or on your birthday, you commit to reviewing your vision as a dharma practitioner, assessing your progress, and seeing if there is anything new you want to add. You may want to again return to the contemplations above. If you have done any of this work in a group retreat, it would be fruitful for everyone to meet again to review and share both your progress and your obstacles. Support each other with kindness and appreciate the efforts everyone has made. Your sangha and entrusted dharma friends are most precious!

The Life of The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh): First Migration, the Year of Sorrow, the Splitting of the Moon
Isra and the Miracle of Miraj (Ascension): Part 1
The Isra and Miraj , one of our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) greatest miracles, occurred on the 27th night of the month of Rajab, a year and a half before the migration (hijra.)
You have been given guidance, and so has your nation.” (8)
The Ascension to the Skies and the Meeting with the Prophets
During the Miraj, a staircase was built so that our Holy Prophet (PBUH) could ascend to the high stations in the Baytu’l-Maqdis. Both our Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Jibril (Gabriel PBUH) were placed upon it and they ascended together. They finally reached the Earth’s skies. Hazrat Jibril knocked on its door:
Someone asked, “Who is it?”
“Jibril!”
“Who is next to you?”
“Muhammad.”
“Has he been sent for?”
“Yes.”
Upon this, the sky’s door opened and they ascended upon these skies.
Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) saw someone seated there who had sets of shadows to his right and left. He laughed when he looked to his right and cried when he looked to his left. He said to our Holy Prophet (PBUH,) “Welcome, O Noble Prophet, O Noble Son!”
Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) asked Hazrat Jibriil (PBUH), “Who is he?”
Hazrat Jibril answered, “He is your father, Adam. The shadows to his right and left are the souls of his children. The ones on his right are destined for Heaven and the ones on his left are destined for Hell. When he looks to his right, he laughs. When he looks to his left, he cries."
They ascended to the second station from there. The door opened and our Holy Prophet (PBUH) encountered Hazrat Yahya and Hazrat Isa (Jesus PBUH).
Hazrat Jibril said, “The men you see here are Yahya (John the Baptist PBUH) and Isa. Greet them.”
They exchanged greetings; Hazrat Isa and Hazrat Yahya said, “Welcome Noble Prophet, Noble Brother,” to our Holy Prophet (PBUH.)
Afterwards our Holy Prophet (PBUH) met Hazrat Yusuf (Joseph PBUH) on the third level, Hazrat Idris (Enoch PBUH) on the fourth, Hazrat Harun (Aaron PBUH) on the fifth, Hazrat Musa (Moses PBUH) on the sixth, and Hazrat Ibrahim (Abraham PBUH) on the seventh level. They all welcomed him and congratulated him on his miraj.

THE WAR OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS THANKS Thank you very much to the entire Royal Hawaiian Press team and especially to Maria Cowen for giving my novel a chance. Thanks to Maria, the novel crossed the Polish borders. I am grateful to my parents for faith in me and the success of my novel, as well as for supporting me during its creation. I would also like to thank my twin brother Robert and sister Natalia for cheering on me to write. Thank you to everyone who will reach for this novel because thanks to you, readers, writers can exist. Gratefully Forest Blackwood The waves, pounding the sand, poured out a fistful of rubies. An angel stood above the azure sea covered with a rime. He belonged to a hierarchy called the Judgement and was its leader. Angels lived in the land of Inarax, surrounded by a mountainous area known as a cloud. The rime that surrounded everything here made the mountains seen as moving just like clouds over the sky. The Judgement looked at the island inhabited by the archangel. He was the angel of the highest rank and he ruled the entire land. He felt in the morning that not without reason one of the lower-ranking angels, who were called Shepherds, brought him news. It is time to hurry to meet the archangel himself. He believed that if there were rubies on the beach, something good would happen to him; it was a superstition that prevailed in this area. He looked again at the stones. The sun's rays fell directly on them; the rocks shimmered in their radiance, making the angel's heart beat faster and happier. He picked up one, made a few quick steps towards it, spread his blue and white wings, and in flight put a ruby into a leather pouch he had strapped to his belt. When he was flying, he passed the Shepherds, they were lower than his hierarchy; their wings were black and yellow and was shorter, came below than the knees. He had his wings to his ankles. When he fell from the sky and landed lightly on the island, the archangel came up to him and seized him with both hands by the shoulders. “Hello,” said the archangel in his direction. “Let's walk. I have a plan, my friend. I mean people and the land of Draxban.” “I'm all ears, my leader.” The Judgement looked at him with love and respect. “That time has already come, my friend. We must appear in Draxban, witches start to threaten people, their king may not wake up one day and their counties may fall into disarray. I want you to turn your attention to this southern one. I have a feeling that his role will be unclear, which means that something or someone expects us. I had a dream about you and the boy, who I can’t see yet. I want you to create a clock for them. This mechanism will possess the elements of all known worlds. It will act as an information about their existence, it will allow people of all worlds to approach each other. Almegia, Syrnia, Unbia, Draxban, Inarax, and the cursed Lanar. This will allow people living in these regions to get to know each other and create a bond with our help. This also applies to us, we will have to open ourselves before them, and each of the worlds is different. You see, our relation is as different as these worlds, Judgement, they must start to see us as persons close to them, I suspect that it will take a while. In Draxban, I want you to order the angels to be more attentive, because we will be simply seen as something completely new. I do not want to arouse in them panic, embarrassment or fear. I entrust this task to you; choosing a hierarchy is yours! The Judgement bowed to the archangel, pleased, took a ruby from the pouch, and clenched it for good luck. “It is time for me to act, archangel.” He made take-off, spread his long wings and flew toward the angels that were wandering around Inarax. His captain flew to him. “I was not looking for you, Captain,” he said cheerfully. “Well, but I could not stop curiosity. Tell me, please, what did the archangel want from you?” “Eh, well, a mission is being prepared. I want to keep the action going for the Shepherds this time; they must spread their wings. You know what's going on, buddy!” “I understand you well, let the rookies quit being lazy,” he added with a smile. They flew to the Shepherds, trained in the fight, who practiced on one of the islands. “Listen to me,” the Judgement said to them, evoking a grimace on his face. “You will go to the battle.” They stood in line immediately. Captain Arahiel watched them, walking with a serious expression. “Listen to me, youngsters, it is not fun, not anymore, it is your fire test. You know what will happen when you fail?” They shouted at the same time, “There will be no higher hierarchy!” “Now that is what I am talking about, soldiers!” “You will follow the Archangel's order and go to Draxban, but you have to be discreet, do not show yourself to people and do not step in on them, understand?” “Yes,” they replied in a chorus. “You have to act in such a way as to eliminate what is bad there, while being unnoticed by the people. We will decide when we reveal to them and establish a relation. Protect the Counts and the king. Your enemy are witches who are planning an attack on the local authorities and you will be looking for them, understand?” “Yes, sir!” He heard again. “Captain, stay with them and train them well, they'll stumble over with this bunch of furious she-wolfs for the first time.” He lowered his voice a bit and added with concern, “Arahiel, remember about this, please.” The angel nodded in understanding. The Judgement jumped to the sky, wrapped its wings, the air covered him, and he disappeared. * He appeared in Almegia. The rays of the moon were falling on the amber trees, filling them with a silver light. They gave them back, shining in the dark. He walked towards the rocks. He pulled out a short hatchet in a moment, he was hitting it on the wall. Breaking off a significant piece of it, he began to form a stone box from it. He lifted it up thanks to the hex. He spread out his wings, reaching out his hands to the front; the air fluttered in front of him. He threw a spell at some of the rock floating in the air. An image of a castle in the heart of this land appeared on it. He visited successively the other worlds known to him, and finally he came to the accursed Lanar, where evil prevailed. He reached out his hands again; there was a ubiquitous semi-dark here. He noticed in the distance that something was moving between the red-bursting crowns of the dark trees. It was a beige demon, who was so strongly pushed between trees by something, which he could not land. He stood a moment; he finally saw that the demon was holding both long black and red forks with both hands. Other demon, black like a pitch, stuck them. The angel looked at them closely, observed that the attacker had yellow hands and feet, he carried short horns on the head. In the end, the one gave up, and he immediately gored him, he hit him on the ground. He got to him, pulled the forks out of him, stabbed them into the ground, and with one quick wrench he pulled his heart out. Something trembled in the Judgment, he saw in the distance how he devoured it. He raised his hands, placing the last image on the next, last piece of rock. He looked at himself threateningly, drew his sword violently, climbed on wings, and flew rapidly to him. The demon caught the pitchfork in a fraction of a second, thus reflecting the impact of the sword. The Judgment was petrified, made a pirouette in the air, holding the blade of a sword close to him, striking the demon's fork as it retracted its deliberate cut, revealing the entire right side. The angel cut him with great speed, he howled with pain, suddenly he fell dead. The Judgment immediately stabbed the sword blade in his back after the first cut. “It's time to come back,” he said to himself. Immediately after that, he returned wrapped in a cloak of time to Inarax. He was spotted by the Shepherd when he was landing on the rock azure stones, and came running up toward him. “Hello, general, I am reporting readiness to march.” “You better leave me, soldier, you do not have this duty. Over eagerness is worse than... you know, soldier.” The young angel blushed. “Yes, sir.” He said instantly, moving away in the direction of his friends visible from afar. In the end he heard a voice calling from afar, calling him by his name, “Elgian, are you there!” It was an archangel, “Yes, I came back.” “I see that you are coming straight from Lanar, were you battling?” “Yes, archangel, and I ask myself why we are not there, where we should be.” “Be calm. Everything has its time, remember that we are devoted and assigned to the sun, and it has not yet answered us. I direct only one question to it every day when we should move to Lanar, it is silent,” he added sadly. “He has not answered yet.” “So, archangel, we must move to Draxban. I think that I will entrust this task to Arahiel, he has over two hundred young Shepherds; I thought about Unbia and we have matters in Almegia.” “Yes, so young, inexperienced... In the land of Draxban they will face the real threat for the first time. And what about the mechanism, Elgian?” “It is practically ready, I want Arahiel to finish the work and create a scroll, which will tell where the mechanism will be hidden, and it will be a gift for whomever will come to receive it. He will have to go through the scroll stage, then he will easily reach the mechanism. People will start to understand themselves more and more, especially since it has the power to transfer anyone who is within its reach to any of the worlds.” “It is a beautiful and wise gift, and then we will approach them in such a way to connect us with people. I, Elgian, also want to give something in this gift. Show me the mechanism.” Elgian put the box on the rock. The mechanism lifted, dividing into seven parts, each of them showed a picture subordinated to each of the lands. The archangel extended his hands upward; the sun's rays swirled between his hands, seven stone parts began to rejoin the box, and then under the influence of the spell they formed a key. The archangel slammed into his hands and the key again became a box in which one of the solar rays had fallen. The Archangel said, “This ray has merged the spell, it will allow the mechanism to change into a key, and it will serve the door to our Inarax. “Arahiel will have a real challenge to hand it over to the right person. “Yes, let's leave it to his choice.” * It was already dimming, the sun was covered with an air curtain, only the whirling mountains and the sea covered with a rag emitted a light. The troops were in full readiness. Arahiel stood in front of the Judgment. He said, “I give this mechanism to you. It is you who will choose when and to whom to pass it. I want to know to whom it will go, so that I can continue the rest of our mission. I entrust to you the care of it. I want to be informed about everything in time.” “As you wish, general, I created a map on bovine skin. In my free time, I hide the mechanism, transferring it to one of the worlds. People will have a bit of fun with this map, but they will not have a problem. They just go to one of the worlds with it. They will take the mechanism and they will move to themselves. Can it be, general?” “Eh, captain, let it be, good luck. It's time for you, move on. Start it, protect them, look around for the witches, and stay close to the castle and the counties.” “According to your order, Elgian.” They walked through the door carved in the grotto in the middle of the mountain peaks. Arahiel wanted to check whether the key would work. Everything went according to his expectations. They flew straight into the Draxban forest. It was raining and, in the end, it started to get dark. Arahiel began to laugh inwardly, seeing the angels that had been unaccustomed to this landscape. “A branch of fifty on the left, the second on the right, the third behind me, and the fourth in front of me.” “On command,” he heard. “You take the castle under protection, let the rest choose any county. Five from each branch to me. Tomorrow at noon, I want to hear some news from you.” Each of the branches moved eagerly in the designated direction. When they scattered, Arahiel covered his wings with his other companions. * They fell asleep. Night was coming. It slowly stopped raining. The sky was covered with stars, which, just like the mushrooms after rain at this time of the year, filled the divine majesty. One of the Shepherds lifted his sleepy eye, made a gap in the right wing, and saw slowly the red beating eyes approaching them through the woods. He counted twenty pairs. “Captain,” he whispered. Arahiel knew everything. He bit his lower lip, swung the leather bag behind his back with a quick movement. Under the influence of spells, it became invisible. “You will attack at my command!” he shouted now. The witches roared. They showed a mouth full of fangs, spread out their hideous bats’ wings. They pulled out long axes. The angels have risen to the sky. They drew swords. Arahiel fired at them with the rays of the sun; the others immediately repeated the movement. The witches took the momentum, they run lowered, holding weapons both hands, facing the ground, and finally they rose on their wings towards them. A few of the young ones had already been hit at the very beginning, so the next ones also cut them badly. Arahiel cut off two at a time: one got a blade on the back, the other one lost her head. Enraged by the losses they inflicted at the beginning; he was hot under the collar. He banged with strength, looking around nervously. Suddenly, a spell reached hi. He fell to the ground, and the witch hit the edge of the ax over his leg. One of the Shepherds immediately came up to her cut her until she fell, however, he also fell down immediately after her. Struck with impetus in the back between the wings, Arahiel saw that they were losing in an unequal battle. He took the witches by surprise when they fought with the Shepherds. He cut three of them through their back. He heard suddenly, “Defend the mechanism, run away, Captain.” He saw that the duel between the Shepherds and the witches was even. He jumped to the sky, hit another one over her head. “To the passage!” he shouted, but he saw only how others were falling. With no time for anything else, he flew over the tops of the trees. He ran ahead, and two witches chased him. Having flown some distance, he managed to turn in the air and hit the spell hard. One of the witches got a yellow light in the chest. She caught fire in the air, curled like an insect in flight, and fell into dark green trees. He landed violently somewhere on a stony field in the middle of the forest. He felt suddenly what had happened; he was caught by a spell; it got into the wings, temporarily forced him to land. The witch took a powerful blow with his ax. He was steaming a punch, then he cut her in the stomach, until he felt a twinge. As she released the ax from her hand, she immediately pulled out a long hunting knife and stuck it with a terrified grimace on the face of the angel's belly. She fell with her own strength and a set blow a few meters away into the field, striking hard against one of the many stones. Arahiel felt his time was coming. He removed the leather bag behind his back; there was a mechanism in it and a bovine scroll. He laughed suddenly, because he took with him coins as well as weapons from Almegia, to show them to the young soldiers. He did not have time for anything. He knew that he would not be able to move to any other world, but he felt that he could still do something before he will finish his life. He unfolded a bovine scroll, said “Almegia.” The scroll shone, a bluish light flew directly to it to indicate the position of the mechanism, and he was transferred to the indicated world. He hit the stone field with a spell. An uneven deep bottom formed, and he hid the map hidden in the scroll. He was breathing heavily, tears dripping down his cheek, his left hand holding on to the ground, the other spilling the soil with a spell. After a moment he was dead. * The first unit saw the Castle from a distance. Angels fell from heaven into the middle of the wilderness. They looked around urgently on the sides, paused, listening for a moment. Here and there the nocturnal singing of owls spread, their roaring continued. One of the Shepherds put a finger to his lips with theatrical gestures, making it understood that silence would prevail. It meant no movement by them. Suddenly, the sound of broken branches came from behind the trees; they understood that the force was responsible for this. Slowly, they took out the swords, still listening. It did not last long - pairs of moose appeared from behind the trees, the dams and toms ran, jumping through lying trees, thus making a unique noise. The angels immediately began to get out of their way. One of them looked at the moon and the starry sky, took a deep breath, and lowered his gaze to the forest again. He saw many red eyes approaching them. Their owners looked like wolves; their hunched posture made them read their movements as a four-legged approach. He directed the blade of the sword toward them. Immediately after him, everyone was ready. Finally, the witches came out from behind a forest thicket into a relatively open space. The witches were old, barely holding weapons in their hands. Shepherds were the first to attack. Witches began to roll with axes and pitchforks. The angels finished them without any problem. The last of them shot with a spell, but a white flame hit the spruce tree that was close to her. She fell on her face, hitting the ground with a quick prick of a sword. “Victory!” they shouted. “We are well trained. Hurray in honor of Captain Arahiel!” The one who defeated the last witch, ordered them to be the commander of the victorious squad. They awarded him this title. He stood proudly in the middle of them and gave the order, “Let's patrol the area.” A dozen meters away, young witches watched them. They began to quietly approach the dead bodies of old, age-old witches. Smiling at each other, they began to tear out their limbs, whispering spells, stabbing fangs into them, filling them with blood. They began to change. They looked fabulously young and beautiful. When the spell was accomplished, they ran through the thinning forest directly to several Shepherds. The angels turned abruptly towards them, but they did not do anything. The young witches ran to the next angels. As they approached each one of them, they jumped, clasping their hands. “Beloved warriors, dearest of the brave men. Thank you so much, you saved our sorcerers' clan from destruction. These lousy witches, these vile creatures, were already close to us and our death.” The one, who was chosen as the leader, ordered to hide the weapons. He said, “Dear sorceress, it was our duty to bring you relief from certain destruction.” One of the sorceresses smiled beautifully towards the angel, others immediately repeated this gesture, and then stretched out their hands towards them and blown out the spell that flew straight into the angels’ eyes. They grabbed their hands, each of them moved with an angel to a secluded place. They started copulating with them, hour after hour, without a break. The units that went to the counties fell into the same ambush one by one. When the pale dawn came, the angels rose to their feet. In their ears, they heard the howls and remnants of the recited spells, each touch of a single tree made them echo back to them. They saw with horror and pallor that punishment had fallen on them. They were gray, thin and hungry. They went without a word to the return path; they already knew that their captain was dead. * Witches bared sons. The beasts came out of them that carried the wings of their fathers. However, they lost their angelic glow; took on a matte gray color. They inherited long shaggy noses from witches. Purple eyes shining in the moonlight cut off on aggressive-looking faces. Witches in fear let their sons into Syrnia, because there was the nearest shelter there. For centuries, the forces of evil have tried to tear a piece of land for themselves there, ignoring the strong resistance of the priests and angels residing there, and they were wondering how to achieve the intended goal. Demons from Lanar helped them. * The forest around him created an apparent calm. The wind swayed the autumn leaves, danced among the old ones, remembering many trees. His icy, nice-touch touched everything. Count Artis, a tall black-haired man, wandered the path. He has already moved far away from his court, always thinking about what he must do. The kingdom of Draxban was divided into the eastern, western, northern parts and the one belonging to him, southern. In this world, angels took care of people; they were the Shepherds who were led by the angel Judgement and its hosts. Centuries ago, they came from the land of Inarax, but being inexperienced in the fight against evil, fell into the trap of witches with whom they were affiliated. By this, Judgement drove them away to redeem their sin. The Shepherds were the angels of the lower hierarchy; they lacked hardening in the battle. The world they chose was to be a clash with what they were born for - the necessity of taking care of people and defending them from evil. Judgement knew that sometimes throwing down the pink slip could only cause that one of them would simply not make it. He did not like it, but it was only way for angels to check them, so he decided to forge them from scratch. He imposed punishment on them and sent them to other worlds so that they could wash away their shame, and so that the experience they gathered could eventually be transferred to the world entrusted to them. He himself decided to take care of this kingdom. Shepherds would come again to Draxban, but only when the experience allowed them. Only knights knew secrets and secret magical places. Artis was just following a mission to one of these places. Each court had a guardian, a guardian with magic skills. Zai, a red-haired brown-eyed woman, anxious about the information from one of the knights, immediately turned to Artis with a request to collect an ancient bovine coil with an unknown handwriting. It was owned by the knight Zelfram, who was to wait for him in the forest castle. Artis knew nothing about the scroll or what was in it, but he trusted Zai immensely. This land hides many things, he thought. There are caves to which it is better not to enter and mirrors in which it is better not to look. Ha! Not the first and the last time destiny sends me in the arms of the unknown. Zelfram, yes! I will go to him with a calm heart. I wonder what he has been digging for. He started laughing at himself. He knew him from the last battle in which they defeated the Counts of Count Walrad. Walrad oppressed his taxpayers. It happened that he had stolen the elixir from a witch belonging to his court, and fell into madness, which resulted in unleashing the battle. Suddenly, Artis' consideration was interrupted by his horse. A dozen robust robes emerged from the forest. Count, in the blink of an eye, thought of the approaching night and meal. He grabbed the spear and aimed it at the game. The smallest doe will look beautifully at the fire today. At the meal, he was thinking about Zai and Zelfram for a while; about the scroll that interest him. A normal human feeling filled his body and it was a feeling of curiosity. He also felt drowsy and when an owl sat on a branch, he fell asleep. * A jay covered with fear, wounded. Artis dreams; he screams, “A jay covered with fear, wounded, heals fossilized beasts”. Count cringes, body trembles in sleep, hears again, “a figure covered with fear heals fossilized beasts!” He sees a rainbow in his dream, in it faces of iron, the figure disappears, and boulders remain. Artis woke up sweating. It was already light. He opened his eyes and saw the bird departing into a light fog with the morning prey in its beak. Artis whispered to himself, “Zai, you'll have to explain this dream to me.” He grabbed the parchment and wrote down the symbolism that appeared in it: stones, jay, iron faces... He stood up, wiped his face with sweat, moved on. The wind gently nudged the bushes of wild lilac, on which the birds were singing metallically. The Count was hurrying along the road to the castle. Two days left. Last night he wanted the dream to fly away like birds nesting in wildly growing forest bushes. He was accompanied by a light fog that emerged from the field. For a moment, he would disappear behind the forest. Artis decided to stay with the local village administrator for the night. They knew each other not from today; not because he was a Count, but because he often chose this way when he was young; when he was interested in everything. He helped the village leader - he cured him of a curse cast by an envious neighbor who envied his belongings as well as beautiful, well-married daughters. In addition, neighbor Grymek could not forgive him that he was chosen by the population. He went to the witch with a bag of gold. He was not poor, and he asked an old witch to kill the cows, and the village administrator Kolec had to become mad! Then the young Artis, completely unaware of future events, hunted the game when Kolec appeared hanging with a string of various dead birds. He spoke something incomprehensible and his eyes were wild and sad. Artis, who learned magic and spells from Zai, immediately sensed that something evil and supernatural was here. He looked into the eyes of the village administrator and uttered a detoxing spell: “Silver crow, silver tail Feathers in fire are burning!” In the blink of an eye, Kolec opened the mouth, the eyes stopped for a moment, and a purple haze appeared around them. The Count, without looking, grabbed a braided pendant of various flowers, which he always had around his neck. The purple haze was captured by the pendant, and the village administrator, returning to health, saw an orange glow on the Count's pendant. He staggered and fell into Artis' arms. He wept. Artis looked at him, pushing him away from him. “Who are you, man?” the Count asked. Kolec flushed with powerlessness and shame, tears running down his cheeks. He responded, “Eh, dear Earl, I am a local village administrator. Eh, my lord, what happened to me? I did not do anything.” Artis replied calmly, “Village administrator, the curse has been thrown at you. I have this mist, and I mean the curse is captured.” He pointed to the pendant. Kolec said, “Well, sir, I have a string too.” He took a string from his head. “A curse on me. Oh, this scoundrel will remember me. Oh, indeed, I'll gore him with fork. Lord, I am not a simple person, but I will not let go until he is a live and I will catch him even he will be dead in the afterlife and believe me my fork... Lord!” Artis began to speak calmly, “Dear Village administrator...” “Well, hmmm! I'll get to know everything who has something to me! I invite you, Countess, into my humble abode. What do you say, Count? Let's go!” Freshly mowed meadows gave off essential oils that made for a pleasant feeling. They were breathing fully. The Count's horse carried them like two feathers, ignoring the weight of the riders. They missed a siege of singing cranes. It was a rebirth for Kolec. He heard the sound of trumpets and thought that angels were playing instruments. He shivered all this time. He said to the Count, “Master, what was happening to me? I, like a horned beast, with some rope with dead birds.” “Relax, village administrator, we will deal with everything.” The village administrator smirked, “Oh, we will. We are approaching my home, sir.” A country road was beginning in front of them. You could see a wooden fence from a distance and on it grew a wildly growing dowry rose. There were three large brick buildings nearby: a barn, a cowshed and a cottage. “Well, well,” said the Count. “You can see, that the village administrator lives here!” They entered! The women in the courtyard were talking nervously with the peasants. They all turned to the dismounting riders. “Oh, mother!” they shouted. “It's Kolec, Kolec. Two days you were gone! We all were going out of our minds about where you were!” Kolec grabbed his wife and hugged her, daughters and their husbands happily welcomed him. Kolec turned and said,“Enough of this. This is my savior, Count Artis in person.” “Oh, sir.” “Yes, my dears. If not for this happy coincidence...! Oh, if not for this happy coincidence!” The village administrator smiled. “Well, let's go to the cottage. It's time to welcome you!” The wife of a village administrator, Marka, began to bustle about meals and drinks with her daughters. She spoke to her husband, “Two days ago, you went to look forour belongings. You mumbled something about headaches. Later you did not come back. After you disappeared, the cows were falling one by one. We did not know what to do anymore... We were looking for you everywhere, eh!” “Marka, I got under somebody's skin. Oh, I got. It was a curse thrown at me, at us, at my house.” “We will talk about it later. Let's eat! We have something to celebrate.” She smiled. Tears of relief flowed down her round face. The peasants began to return happiness and joy returned to their homes! The Count spoke, “Kolec, it's time to find out about this collusion was against you and who did it. Let Marka bring a mirror.” “She has one, sir! A wedding gift.” Marka was already approaching with the mirror, so the Count said, “Now it's time for the spell: “Silver crow Cat's eyesight Show us the dark!” He grabbed the pendant, a purple haze got in the mirror. Artis caught it with fingers, held it with his right hand and his eyes were purple. Kolec grabbed Marka's hand and they looked at each other. They all saw a man talking to a witch with murky hair. The woman was dressed in a beige-colored dress, with a nettle leaf on her neck. Suddenly, Artis with the mirror approached the village administrator and his wife, he asked, “Do you recognize them?” “Yes,” said Kolec, with hushed voice. “It's, it's Grymek and this woman is aherbalist. Sometimes she is at the market. I saw her once or twice. She sells poultry.” Artis replied, “Get away from the mirror!” “I have not seen yet that people talk in some item!” Marka stated, “It is magical!” “Marka,” Artis said to her. “Do you recognize her?” “Yes, this is the hen who sells poultry. What more can I say; she lives a village from here. She spends her life alone. Neither with children nor man. She has helpers. She manages somehow.” “Oh. Now I will listen to the rest.” He sank back into the mirror. He saw Grymek give the herbalist a pouch and curses on Kolec, and she promises him his revenge. The haze returned. The mirror has become an object of everyday use once more. The Count looked at them and said, “Your cows were killed by striga!” “Oh mother, and if it attacks a man!” “Who puts a curse?” Kolec looked grimly at the Count. “Do you know some Grymek?” “Oh, this drifter, this... that bastard,” Marka shouted. “I will break his bones.” “Count, we can catch the striga, but we will give Grymek to your judgment. To court with him, sir, to court.” “Listen to me,” he said. “I do not want you to kill anyone by yourself. The court is a good solution when it comes about this Grymek!” “As for the striga, you can be wounded and even killed.” “Help us, Lord, help us!” “Okay, so I will ask for help my old friend. Tomorrow evening we will go to the field!” “How should we prepare?” asked Kolec. “You probably have spears or other weapons?” “Yes, sir, we have.” “So tomorrow take your boys and let's go. Now it's time to rest.” The women listened to the whole conversation. Marka came with the girls, “Kolec, do not go away. Stay.” “Finish it now, Marka, so I cannot protect us from evil?” “But Dad...” said the daughters. “We’re afraid for you.” “My little ones, that's enough,” said the Count. “We will not be alone. There will be someone with him. I did not ask who, for what and why. We will manage. We will not ask anything more. Let's go to sleep!” * The next day, Kolec took Artis for the rounds on the farm. The women took care of their duties, asked beforehand, that they would not venture into the market and would not announce that Kolec returned. It was getting dark. The peasants were getting ready, Artis with full kit asked them to come to him. “Give me a weapon.” The peasants were holding a spear, swords and a pitchfork. Suddenly, Artis blew the dust from his hand. The weapon became lighter, and the shape of the wings appeared in various places. The peasants looked at each other. “Interesting, sir, interesting. These are certainly eagle symbols!” Artis smiled and replied, “Probably so.” He looked at the sky. The family of eagles just flew low over the roofs of the buildings. “Listen to me. From now on, there is silence in the field. You are ten meters apart from yourself. At my command, you throw spears and deliver the coup de grâce, understand?” “Yes, sir,” said Kolec. “Who will be as your friend? If we are to throw and deliver the coup de grâce.” “That's all in right time. Do not ask me anything!” Kolec smiled and replied, “Yes, sir.” The moon glow enveloped the landscape. The cows calmly picked at the grass, whilst the peasants lined up ten meters from each other. This sight so dulled them that they felt a bit bored waiting for this night cursed creature. Artis took the sword, put the blade to his head; he did a ridiculous step for the peasants: quite a deep, right leg, not moving at the left, and began to speak loudly. It was a spell: “Their cry is sad Their singing is sad They are flying in the sun When they hear satanic laughter!” He raised the sword with both hands above his head. The peasants saw an arriving scarlet looking like a rat with wings, only without tail and fur. It was something that already wanted to kidnap one of the cows, when suddenly in the sky among the stars it was possible to see the falling comet. Artis swore on: “Defeat evil, overcome fear Fall like morning dew, hit the ground!” The falling comet took shape. It was an angel entrusted to Artis’ father and his family. At the same moment when the striga caught the cow, the angel cut her head in the blink of an eye. The peasants, dumbfounded, saw the winged figure. It was surrounded by a starry glow, the sword shining with the light of stars. Artis said to Kolec, “Now finish this odiousness. Kolec's face darkened. He grabbed the spear and threw it into the body of the striga! The angel appeared in front Artis and the village administrator. Kolec waved his hand at the peasants; they approached them, and the marks from the weapons disappeared. Kolec whispered to Zemek, so that all the rest, and he, did not gape so much. “Stand at attention,” he added. “Angel, thank you,” said Artis. The angel looked at him, and his eyes seemed to be stars in the dark. The angel announced, “The bond given to us by your father is eternal, Artis.” He smiled and flew away. The peasants again saw something in the shape of a comet. They thought that this night would be something that will stay in their memory for eternity. Generations will sing about these events. Kolec grabbed Artis' arm and said, “As long as I'm a village administrator, the village will be grateful to our grave, forever.” “It's half our way, village administrator, only half!” The body of the night creature was killed. The peasants said that it was not a rat. It was a reptile, a bulging eye, a crease of a creme-rat. They burned it and there was peace. They returned to the cottage, drank honey from Kolec's recipe, and fell asleep. The morning sun awoke them; they sat outside. At the meal, among the trees long-tailed tits and titmouses flew merrily. There were swarm of them. Artis said, “Now it's time for the judgment of Grymek and this witch.” “So, do your duty.” Artis went to the market. Grymek revolved with his wife at the baskets of eggs and forest mushrooms. They were talking to a woman with murky blond hair. Artis stood further away and he heard Grymek's wife niggardly and invitingly express herself about the pendant with the nettle leaf on her neck. Together with her husband, they praised Krywa's products, “Oh, Krywka, Krywa, you have so fat ducks. Oh, and how many leccinums and boletes.” Looking into each other's eyes, they smiled at each other. Artis approached them. Krywka reddened. Grymek looked at him, then he grabbed the egg and drank it, slamming the shell on the table. The wife looked at the Count and said, “It would be better for him to have health than a weasel eats it,” and she smiled happily. Artis could not stand it and began, “Well, maybe, Mr. Grymek, I'll show something.” He showed them the pendant. Purple haze came out from the cover. It hit Grymek and Krywa, the nettle lit up and Artis uttered a spell, “Burn, fire, white wood in it.” Krywa began to sweat and fall to the ground. She heard the angel's voice in her head, and she fainted. Grymek and his wife had a mournful face, as if they admit to everything. “Follow me,” he said to them. They were tangled with a spell. They followed him, and the energy of the angel interlocked them with Artis. He grabbed the pendant. A Sonchus flower appeared in the sky, flashed, the leaves scattered, and the yellow light struck Grymek and his wife in eyes. Their pupils expanded. They saw a cold emptiness - it was their dungeon. In their heads, they heard angel sentences: five years for a curse. Krywa turned into nettle and as a flower she grew on the meadow they passed. This is the fate of villains and witches. * Artis saw a familiar sight: a fence that remained, a hedge of mossy rose, buildings. As if the idyll, temporarily interrupted, only seemingly disappeared from this place. “Count, our savior has returned,” said Kolec, who grew up in front of him when Artis entered the farm. They shook hands. “Eh, Village administrator, many years passed, you know how many?” “Eh, Count, happy people do not count time, especially here in our village far from the manor. Ha, ha, ha. Women at that time gave birth to sons. They are as sharp as a needle. Imagine, Artis, that grandchildren bought the property of this accursed poisoner, Grymek. A lot of land we have now.” “Well, I see that there is something to drink for!” “I invite you, please rest.” “I'll tell you everything at supper!” He began by saying that Zai, the guardian of the court, was delighted and immediately worried when she learned that something was found in the old castle, and that the knight Zelfram was waiting for him to take this thing away!” “I am excited. Listen to me. We do not know anything about this thing. It is just that Zelfram watches over the scroll and he also wait for answers.” “Nice, knight, nice.” Night was approaching. Skylights gave light, bringing out the hidden beauty of the garden. The singing of nocturnal birds was heard in the distance. The bats were catching mosquitoes at the lake, which started just at the end of the cowshed, and the cattle were quietly sleeping in it. Natural meadows full of flowers brought a honey-lemon scent. The frogs were coming around. Kolec and the count drank wine, eating venison. They talk about these years and joked about a certain witch and her necklace with nettle. At some point, they started humming the song: “Oh, girl, Do not collect nettles, Do not collect sonchus power! For this nettle is green And will bite you and burn your nose!” When the time came to say goodbye, Kolec said, “I know that you have these different abilities that allow you to survive.” He looked at Artis. “It's a gift for you from us.” Marka covered his arms with a warm coat made of raccoon dogs. “We hunted them a lot. They are everywhere. I thought I would do one more.” She smiled. Artis hugged her. “Thank you, Marka,” he replied. Village administrator, Kolec, shook his hand. “Over and out....” Artis looked at them for a long moment, then said together with Kolec, “Yes, happy people do not count the time.” Marka began to laugh happily. The mossy roses and their captivating smell favored him. Birds on bushes sang loudly, there was their time. Symphoricarpos bushes have already begun to bear fruit. He started to go. A falcon that chased after a titmouse flew over him, birds flew into a lilac bush. The moved Count Artis was already far away. The horse carried him back into the deep, beautiful forest. The sun, slightly hidden in the lead clouds, threw rays all over the surroundings. The rains fell from the sky, and the cold air flew into the lungs. Kolec and Marka hugged each other, closed the gates and returned to their daily duties. Far away from Kolec and his house, Artis drove into a hidden road. It led to the forest castle. It stretched through holly trees, oaks and spruces, and it was invisible to the human eye. Artis uttered the spell: “The song of an iron raven, a whiff of dark wings. Feathers are falling on the nest.” The pendant on Artis' neck was surrounded by a black feather and glowing pink. A road has been created. His eyes were now the same color as the raven's feather; they turned pink and black. The road, seemingly only safe, led through slightly mountainous areas. The meadows were full of flowers and herbs here. On the rocks there were signs of priests who had a settlement at an oak hill, where old ancient white oaks stood. Their resin was a valuable magic ingredient. Artis wanted to visit the priests. These magical beings have for centuries cultivated their own rituals. They were very friendly towards the population, and sometimes they also helped many people, for certain gifts and favors. The Count decided to go to them on the way back to get more resin from white oaks. There were Granite Mountains on the horizon, a mountain gorge going up, writhing like a viper in the desert. He reached the place to the mountain peak. It was much easier now. The feather appeared and disappeared. The mountain forest in which it was located had the shape of the letter L. It was a mixed forest, old, freshly fragrant with autumn leaves whirling together with strong gusts of wind and falling in various places, richly decorating the landscape. He reached the beginning of the lands due to Zelfram. Chestnut fruits lay by the trees, decorating both sides of the path leading to the manor standing at the end of the forest. The manor made of granite rocks was cold in the touch; the yard was fenced with a wooden fence. At one end, a hawk landed, sang and flew into the forest. A woman with two boys came out of the mansion, holding both by their hands. Artis uttered the spell: “Shine, autumn leaf, Collect sunny rays and dance!” The woman was Kamao, the caretaker of the forest castle; a dark-haired, blue-eyed sorceress with gentle facial features. She looked at Artis and said, “Boys, go to the Count.” Smiling happily. The youngsters in the middle of the road took their natural form; they were two lynxes of the size of a horse. Their eyes turned yellow and at the same time went out. Artis cheerfully jumped from the saddle, bored a soothing melody into the ear of his horse so that he would not kick in defense of himself and his master. The horse, already calm about their lives, welcomed the animals, blowing them straight from the snores into their faces. Artis began to stroke the lynx, he approached Kamao with them and they fell into each other's arms. They went inside, big lynxes Anxe and Wolxe were playing in the yard; the human eye could see cheerful running children, boys fighting with each other in a queer battle. The stone mansion, forged from cold granite, had a dark-red color. Thanks to magic, it kept the fragrance of flowers and herbs inside and produced pleasant warmth. They sat at the table, a heavy wooden table, the top of which was made of blue and cherry stone and carried refreshing, warm energy. Kamao spoke, “Zelfram is waiting for you, Artis. He found a scroll with a letter forgotten for centuries, and there are drawings on it. Is very interesting. I looked at him and I think that it can be quite important for our land, for Draxban! I also think that priests from the settlement of white oaks will be able to help. They were among the first in these lands. They appeared during the reign of your family. I think it's about the time of your famous great-great-grandfather. We know that there was a difference between them, but maybe this scroll will help us understand the course of those events. You know, I could work on it right now, but that is Zai's job, so I will wait for the information from you. The sooner the better. I am curious about what is hidden in it.” “Kamao, I am also very curious. I also had to talk to Zai about my dream that I had a few days ago.” “Do you want wine, Artis?” “Yes, please. Maybe this is my favorite, from the needles of spruce and your grapes?” “Ah, how did you know? Put your hands on the counter.” Kamao at that time leaned out a cup of wine. She wore a bracelet of flowers-herbs. She grabbed his hands and an herb-flower emerged from the tabletop. It was mud. It flashed a white-yellow glow, an image appeared on the stone. Boulders in the forest stood in the shape of a hexagon. From each of them, a jay was flying out; each of them different. The birds gathered, formed the shape of a circle; every hour they sang. Later, each of the jay flew into a boulder subordinate to another. A rainbow appeared in the middle and a figure in an iron helmet emerged from it. Her red eyes were glowing, the beast's teeth were emerging, and suddenly a spell could be heard: “Owl covered with a rainbow Heal the fossilized beasts!” Once again, the jays flew out of the boulders. Each of them surrounded the energy of a different color. At the same time, they hit the beast, and she disappeared, fell, her body began to fall apart sharply. Kamao saw the angel approaching. He put a stone box on the center of the hexagon and said to them, “This object is waiting for you for centuries, hurry up.” Artis looked at Kamao, “If I have, we have to hurry; it's time for me.” Artis realized that the land of Draxban was no longer the same place he knew. This magical box upset him a bit. He felt uncomfortable. He realized that he was chosen from among his family. He felt the breath of an angel, the same one that protected and looked after them for centuries. “Zelfram will tell us more.” By saying this, Kamao had her own interest in this matter. “Your dream is an indication for you that there is some secret here and it time is coming.” “You're right, Kamao. In nature nothing is lost. As they say, everything has its time. As you can see, this time has come.” They left the court together. “See you, Artis, give a nice word to Zai.” “Of course!” He moved forward. Lynxes accompanied him for some time. He rode the path to the castle. He was struck by the refreshing autumn fragrance of trees and colorful leaves; old beautiful trees led him deep into the forest thicket. He left in front of a tall wooden fence that stretched far ahead. The first of four watchtowers of the castle began. An open gate welcomed guests. The buildings were made of granite stone, the same one from which Kamao’s court was built. Solid, cold, dark-red stones stacked one on top of the other. Around the high wooden fence grew a natural wall of ginkgo trees. Artis pulled into the yard, tied his horse and walked straight ahead, where the wooden and stone manor house was located. He heard people talking. Then the knight accosted him. “Hello, sir.” “Hello,” he replied. “Is Count Zelfram present here?” “Yes, he is in the middle of the mansion.” “Well, thank you.” He went to the main door and found the knight in the court. Zelfram was a man of medium height, stocky with a slightly round face, on which the good humor was drawing. They greeted each other, shaking hands with each other. “I rushed here hurry-scurry. Now save me waiting and talk, man, what is it?” “Or maybe first sip something stronger on this autumn aura?” “Well, one cup and my ears open.” Finally, Zelfram handed the scroll to Artis. “Please, look.” He put it on the table and began to grow. The scroll represented drawings of leaves and stones. “Ah, those old tricks. And I must believe in it, Zelfram? Someone intentionally left these leaf-stone engravings. They look as if the child was collecting them in the forest and chose more interesting treasures.” Zelfram laughed a moment. Artis put his hand on the open scroll, the pendant flared. A hewn uneven stone appeared on the cowhide. The jays surrounded him until they took the shape of a clock. Leaves and stones took on colors. The jays formed a circle, and spun continuously. “What is that telling us, Artis?” “Eh, we see uneven stone and birds. In addition, leaves and stones change color and shape.” “You see the same thing as me.” “Yes, Zelfram, I think I will leave the rest to Zai. We will end for today. Too many unknowns.” “I agree with you, curl it, but remember about me when you discover its whole secret.” “Castellan, start talking. How did this object find itself here?” “This scroll had one of the peasants. He drew stones nearby from the forest. He needed them for construction. The scroll was hidden in a sack, which also contained coins as well as weapons. Interesting. You see, Artis, a boy found it as a blind pig finds a truffle; he made a pile. For the fact that he brought it to the court, I still rewarded him; let him also have something.” Artis sighed. He decided that he would tell the castellan of his last experiences, “I had a dream on the way. Kamao brought it out by spells. The dream spoke of a stone hexagon and a stone box. An angel appeared in it, who guards us and gives us this device. In my dream there is also evil in a pure form and as if it was also lurking for this object. Do you have it too, Zelfram? I mean visions and strange dreams.” “Well, Artis, to be honest, I did not have anything like that – neither dreams nor anything similar. You know me, I would say right away. What you say is interesting. This dream can be an instruction, a map, how to get there. Hmmm, maybe it's an angelic tip. Artis, we know them not from today. We have a scroll. Maybe it will lead us to the goal. I have such a feeling.” “What is the news from the priests from the settlement of white oaks?” “I think everything is the same. They go for herbs, pray for their stones; they worship signs on trees; generally good for them. They asked people if they wanted to learn something from them, to trade. Those who agreed, do not regret. When I come back, I will go to them.” “A good idea.” “Greet priest Ekwira.” “So, what, I invite you to the feast.” Fish, vodka and poultry were served. Zelfram still had his assumptions about drawings inside the scroll and dreams. They came to the same thing, that Zai would lead them. “We can’t take away this pleasure from her. Kamao was already rubbing her hands, but she herself gave priority to Zai.” “Such a hierarchy and agreement between them.” * The wind rose and brought a white snow late in the night. How to Find a Certified Moving Company?
You should Always work with a Certified Moving company.
It is highly recommended that for anything in life, you should work with someone who is certified in what they are doing. As more people are passing off amateur work as professionalism, any stamp of approval and quality shows that the business and company are at least investing in their future.
This is why we always think it is best to work with a certified moving company. Not only is it common and required for people to receive moving certain certifications in their state, but they are also the telltale signs of a respectable business.
So, what are the best moving company certifications, why should you care about them, and how can you find this information on these companies websites?
What are Common Moving Company Certifications
FLORIDA PROmovers
For us, this is one of the biggest moving certifications that we have to offer. This is working in close coordination with the Florida Pro Mover association, and it is a representation of our working within the parameters that Florida dictates a respectable moving business should operate within.
The Florida ProMovers association employs a strong code of ethics to hold moving companies to the highest standards and ensure people moving in and out of the state are well taken care of.
“FMWA is a non-profit trade association, responsible for educating and protecting members and allies of the moving and storage industry. The main purposes of FMWA include:
Advance the best interests of the general public as it relates to the moving and storage industry
Fostering good business ethics on the part of its members. Promote cooperation and goodwill among its members. Investigate and make recommendations as to existing or proposed legislation and to appear before legislative bodies, commissions, and boards on behalf of the association.”
Department of Transportation
The Federal Department of Transportation is the national association that determines the proper parameters with which a moving company or a set of movers are allowed to transport on an open road. They are the ones who mandate rules such as no driving beyond 4 hours without a break and no more than 400 miles per day per driver.
They are both looking out for the best interests of the movers and the best interests of those who are entrusting their property to the movers who must adhere to these rules. Without these rules in place, movers might employ unethical business practices.
These unethical business practices can both be detrimental to the end user, the movers themselves, or the cargo being transported. This is the only certification on this list that must be owned for a moving company to transport belongings within the united states, if a moving company doesn’t have this, don’t use them because they are not operating within the law.
American Moving and Storage Association
The American Moving and Storage Association is a group of movers who elevate their trade. Similar to trade associations that mandate prices and ensure the optimal business practices for everyone.
The AMSA is a great standard that movers and storage companies will personally hold themselves to to create the best environment for their services.
The AMSA is not required for operation in America, but it is a great sign that the moving company you are working with is invested in their future and the optimal landscape for the trade over the next few years. Would you go to a dentist who doesn’t care about the development of their craft?
Additional Certifications a Company can Seek
These are additional certifications that a moving company may seek to impress their audience, but they don’t exactly qualify the movers as much a certification would.
Better Business Bureau
The Better Business Bureau is an independent company that measures the ability of a business to coordinate with customers and ensures that their products are properly being handled and sold to the appropriate parties.
This an individual organization. You do not need to register your business with the BBB, and they are not a nationally mandated corporation. They are a standalone organization that does not represent government interaction at all.
Because of this, what they say is purely speculative of their area. Additionally, if you work with the Better Business Bureau, you need to pay around $500 a year to maintain your membership otherwise your score will never get higher than a B. Because of this, there is an obvious skew in receiving an accurate estimate of the business.
Move For Hunger
Move For Hunger is a great organization that works with moving companies to help transport large storages of food for charities and large fundraising events.
Move For Hunger utilizes the moving trucks movers and vehicles to escort food from one place to another. A moving company may decide to setup their truck as a drop-off point or go pick up the food from a drop-off point for an escort.
Move For Hunger is a great organization to be associated with. It shows a great image of what the moving company represents because it shows they are willing to give back to the community you are joining or leaving.
Five Star Ratings
Five-star ratings can be accumulated from any conglomerate association. Most people will prefer places like Yelp, Google, Angie’s List, or any other type of online area in which user reviews can be submitted.
These are great because they showcase real-life people’s experiences with the business in an online setting. They can showcase their thoughts and opinions while also interacting with the moving company in an open forum. This shows how the company responds to criticisms and what the consensus is with them.
However, it is incredibly easy to skew these results. If you have a large family with different surnames, you can easily simulate differing opinions while being within the close circle of the business and thus skews the accurate representation of how the business coordinates with actual customers and not a segmented audience.
Charity Movers
Charity Movers are similar to Movers for Hunger. Except they will typically do all of the processes themselves. This could be anything from food drives and fundraisers to helping people move pro bono.
This shows a lot of initiative with the company and much more involvement on an authentic level. Where some companies may just bring up that they do Move for Hunger and showcase their badge on their website, other businesses that do charity moving will just do it without some fancy badge to show off.
The only problem is that the source of information is indeterminate. Despite deliberately speaking with them it’s hard to figure out exactly what they do unless they are featured in a magazine or newspaper which supplies excessive validity.
What Happens if the Movers aren’t Certified?
If you aren’t working with a certified mover, then you should not work with them. If they are just starting out and have experience, then you should try and get a few of their previous reviewers and call them.
See if there is any truth to the references they claim validity too. If they are not certified, just note that you are possibly putting yourself in a precarious position.
How can I avoid being Scammed
The best way to avoid being scammed is to of course not work with movers that are unverified.
However, if you must work with them and want to hold them accountable for everything you need these two things:
Written Consultation
A written consultation means that they are quoting you on something that will be accurate and valid for a long time. IF they try and finagle their way out of the price you will be able to hold them to the fact that there is a signed and written consultation they must honor.
Clear Contract
Additionally, see if they offer a contract and make sure to go over every single detail to ensure there is no in between that can be taken advantage of you in your circumstance.
If you are not ready to sign, get a copy of the contract and bring it to a paralegal to view it over for like $100. If you are that close to buying, the extra 100 dollars is a great way to ensure that you will save potentially $1000 off your move. Most lawyers will be fine going over the contract in detail to ensure that everything is clear cut.

The Life of The Prophet Muhammad: First Migration, the Year of Sorrow, the Splitting of the Moon
As is explained in detail in the story-comparison in the Eleventh Word, there was an illustrious king who had vast treasuries and in those treasuries, many varieties of jewels were to be found. He had much skill in strange crafts, comprehensive knowledge of innumerable curious arts, and erudition and learning in numberless wondrous sciences. And, in accordance with the mystery that every possessor of beauty and perfection wants both to see and display his beauty and perfection, of course, that skillful king, too, wished to open an exhibition and to set up displays within it in order to reveal to the people's gazes the majesty of his sovereignty, and to manifest both the glitter of his wealth and the wonders of his art and the marvels of his knowledge.
He adorned it with every sort of bejeweled treasure from his coffers and decorated it with the finest and most gorgeous arts of his own handiwork. Then he appointed one of them as the highest-ranking general, invited him up from the lower levels and mansions to tour sphere after sphere in the levels rising one after the other. And so that he should teach them the correct behavior and formalities in seeing the exhibition and describe the protocol and ceremonies which were in accordance with the pleasure and desires of the learned and skillful king, who did not appear.
But of that book, only a tiny proportion of the meanings and signs which state and point to the Divine Names and perfections have been read.
“If a knowledgeable and skillful person was to compose and write a miraculous book, and on each page of the book were as many truths as would fill a hundred books, and in each of its lines as many subtle meanings as would fill a hundred pages, and in each of its words as many truths as would fill a hundred lines, and in each of its letters as many meanings as would fill a hundred words, and if each of the meanings and truths of the book were to look to and point to the transcendent perfections of its miracle-displaying writer, he most certainly would not leave such an inexhaustible treasury closed and thus worthless.
But a book such as a universe each word of which contains thousands of meanings cannot lose its value or be made to do so. Thus, through this comparison, to a degree, you can look at the exalted instances of wisdom in the Ascension.”
