Right from the start, Deltarune has established itself as a “Game Where Choices Don’t Matter”. Only having one ending has been core to its narrative and theming since day one. But it’s important to remember that it’s a concept that Deltarune has explored through several different ways, with two broad ‘main’ angles.
First there is the obvious way. That “Your Choices Don’t Matter” feels restrictive, oppressive, foreboding. The railroading that makes everything ‘safe’ in a way that feels just slightly insincere, the idea that making a real change in this world is impossible, the Darkners doomed to their Purpose to 'serve' the Lightners, the Prophecy that cannot be changed.
It's about the feeling of powerlessness, a lack of control. It's kinda creepy even when you're forced into a 'good ending' (like the Card Castle Darkners joining Castle Town even if you've been nothing but an absolute menace to them), but especially so if you're marching towards some inevitable and terrible fate.
But on the other hand of that spectrum, there is the matter of Player Agency versus Character Agency. Sometimes in Deltarune, your Choices Don't Matter not because the Choice was taken away from you by some Great Unseen Force - but because you, the Player, are the Great Unseen Force and the characters are asserting their Agency against you.
The general point here is that the Player's Choice often stands at odds with the narrative agency of the characters. Ralsei is the most accommodating member of the main cast and the one most likely to ask Kris (or rather the Player) what to do, and… he's also unhealthily selfless doormat who literally does not believe he's allowed to have opinions of his own and is the most fatalistic about the Prophecy. The biggest example of actual Player Choice in the game so far is the Weird Route, which requires tearing away the agency of both Noelle and Kris until they are tools for the Player.
Kris themself is also a factor in this. Being Literally Possessed means that they're really the perfect example of lacking in freedom and lacking in choices… And when they are asserting their own Agency, it's usually by taking away a 'Choice' from the Player. They often try and rebel, resist or wise-ass their way out of doing or saying something that they don't truly want to say or do.
And their most important moments are, of course, the ones they do of their own will.
It is all 'railroading' from an out-of-universe perspective because it is just the Game stopping you from doing things that will cause the narrative of the story to diverge too much, but within the fiction that the game created, it is a bold act of free will.
The characters' relationships and arcs are 'set on a path' and unchanging because they are dependent on the characters' personalities and experiences and their choices, and there's very little the Player can do to override that. Like, being discouraging towards Ralsei's character arc in Chapter 4 is a huge dick move on the part of the Player, but I doubt it will actually stop him from his path to growth. Because with Susie's support (and Kris' attempt to also support him despite our Choices)
his development is not in our hands.
Basically the one time the Player can meaningfully affect another character's arc and relationship… is Noelle in the Weird Route. And again, this is portrayed as a very dark act of manipulation that robs her and Kris of their genuine choices and will.
And nowhere is this concept more clear than with Susie. The most rebellious character in the entire cast, the one most likely to chafe against the railroady nature of the world and the inevitability of the Prophecy and also against the Player. A lot of the plot in this game has been the same, regardless of our choices, regardless of the Weird Route… because Susie's will and choices has been such an overwhelming leading force in the narrative, that the Player can do very little to change it.
We know Deltarune only has one ending, but I don't think that means we are doomed to get whatever terrible fate has been promised in the Prophecy. I think maybe there's only one ending because there's hardly any Choice a Player can make that will slow down Susie's unbreakable, unwavering, unchangeable fate-defying spirit, we will not be able to Choose to hinder her sheer Determination to break the Prophecy and give herself and all of her friends a happy ending. Susie herself is the real inevitability in Deltarune.
At least, that's the best we can hope for.

Ok, reread of scum villain vol. 2 has been accomplished. Here are my thoughts and just things I wanted to note down (disclaimer: make sure to read these knowing the important context that liushen is my favorite ship lol)
I can't get over the Shen-Mu-Liu trio. Those are SQQ's BOYS and watching them interact is very fun. I also love that Mu Qingfang is medicine-pilled in the way that Shen Qingqiu is monster-pilled. Little did we know LQG is actually the most normal of the three
Shen "im just here to cause problems" Qingqiu saying "I know to get my way all i have to do is bat my pretty eyelashes at YQY and he will fold like a house of cards"
SQQ basically telling LQG that he's so strong so he must row the boat, and LQG is just absolutely FUMING because of how attracted he is to SQQ
SQQ referring to LQG as gege ah my heart
More of SQQ causing problems by trying stick Yang Yixuan onto LQG, which I love because you KNOW that in his grief post-Hua Yue City LQG went "fucking WATCH me"
Ngl I've read enough fanfic to realize that people don't really capture LQG's full personality. The usually make him so shy and tsundere that he's barely able to get a word in (Lan Zhan gets similar treatment) but no, he's just as catty as the rest of them
I need to figure out the timeline of how long Shen Yuan had been reading PIDW, it's endlessly important to me
LQG and MQF being like "our beloved little shixiong, please don't fret your pretty little head, just sit there and relax"
There really is some excellent physical comedy in SVSSS, like when SQQ is confronted by LBH and just defenestrates himself. You know that one scene in Angel Beats? Yeah it's exactly that
Qi Qingqi's eyebrows have now been brought up for a second time and it screams gender envy to me. Why are you as a "cis man" admiring a women's eyebrows so thoughtfully? So much to where it's the first thing you bring up about her appearance?
"Why?! Why were two grown men neurotically discussing a pice of clothing while surrounded by staring eyes?" never change Shen Yuan
I'm actually such a simp for Liu Qingge, i'm literally highlighting every mention of him and every word he speaks. I did not appreciate the Liuber my first time reading. He's also so incredibly tsundere "huff puff i can't believe you can't even ride your sword...get on"
Ugh I actually cried while reading the big confrontation. This did not happen my first read, but man it just got me. Also the very subtle POV switch that happens so we don't get any insight into SQQ's thoughts as he prepares to self-detonate
Mushroom Shen Qingqiu!!!! My Beloved!!!!!!! Def one of my favorite parts of the whole series. I think there are so many ways to play around with this character (hence my AU) but also there's this degree of freedom about it where even his internal dialogue is much more loose and less concerned with acting the part
Oh my...he referenced the succubus adventure...
Im sorry how did I completely black out the scene of LQG and SQQ playing hot potato with his corpse?!!?! Remember what I said about physical comedy!!
"Even a few hours ago, he genuinely wouldn't have cared where others (especially those of the same sex) touched him. They could touch wherever they liked, please go ahead" -- Things only said by straight who are 100% comfortable in their sexuality. Yeah. Totally
There are still good moments of seeing SQQ's dissociating himself from the events of the series and just treating everything and everyone as if it weren't "real," and how these thought patterns shift. Once again I think this would be a very fun thing to play around with and explore more
LIU QINGGE!!!! STOP MAKING ME SAD!!!!!!!! HE YEARNS SO MUCH

1. Bit tired of the "oblivious WWX" thing, so I'd love:
A) some fics that acknowledge how he had no way of knowing how LWJ felt, especially in light of how combative a lot of their interactions were; bonus if he either figured out his own feelings early or it's pointed out that he had no processing space for romance
B) fics where LWJ is the oblivious one, or in denial (and I argue that he probably was the latter for a long time even in canon)
C) fics where they get their confessions out early but it doesn't prevent tragedy
Any setting except A/B/O is cool! If it contains smut, please no cnc; Thank you! 🪻@linderel

~*~
14. Hiya! I'm really curious if there are any fics which follow WWX finding out about LWJ finding out about the Golden Core. Ideally Hurt/Comfort, a real discussion about the burden of the transfer and WWX finally actually breaking down about it - if there's a JC WWX reconciliation that'd also be great.
Alternatively, when they're trapped with JGY in the temple, that reveal & its own discussion similarly! Thanks :) @lefttigerobservation

This is something that genuinely fascinates me about certain storytellers.
If you've ever been in a real emergency situation — blood and screaming, people will die if someone doesn't do something NOW and probably some of them will die even then — then you know that a lot of people will instinctively run in to help. They'll do it whether they actually can help or not. It's hardwired into a lot of humans, especially if the people in danger are children. (No shade. Mammals are often protective of their young.)
But not everyone will do it. Some people won't be physically or psychologically able to ... but some will have the knowledge and ability, and they just won't. Do. Anything. I grew up in earthquake country, so I think of it in terms of earthquakes; when the walls start to crack, everybody runs for cover, but not everybody grabs a baby on the way.
I'm a runner-in, always have been, so I'm fascinated by the stayers-out. I'm not usually interested in judging them (I can't honestly say staying out of, say, a burning building is a bad idea), but I do want to know what's in their head where I have the voice of an ancient primate screaming at me to save the troop.
The only stayer-out I've ever gotten to study up close was my probably psychopathic sibling, and I don't consider him representative of anything much. But the presence of that trait in a storyteller — much less one who takes on Superman of all characters — is baffling. Is there some kind of lack of empathy at work? Certainly Snyder seems to pick and choose who gets to be fully human in his movies, but that's a strange trait to find in a professional storyteller. Does he see stayers-out as heroic in and of themselves, as makers of difficult choices? If so, Superman really isn't the character to explore that through, what with his literal comic-book levels of power that enable him to save almost everyone most of the time. Maybe he was trying to make the best of Superman after Christopher Nolan comprehensively claimed Batman for a solid decade, and transplanted a Batmanesque moral dilemma like "Should I save the Joker?" onto a character for whom it makes far less sense?
The best hypothesis I have so far is this: Superman is a fantasy of power and goodness. It's a story about an incredibly powerful man who uses his power for good, and whose problems mostly arise from his power, his goodness, or both. Maybe Lex Luthor opposes him out of jealousy or fear of his power; maybe his goodness forces him to take on burdens that damage him psychologically; regardless, the best Superman stories turn on that axis. Perhaps Snyder was trying to question the legitimacy of that premise, or criticize the idea of a power-and-goodness fantasy itself in the way that some really good superhero fiction engages with those sorts of abstract concepts.
But given how much of Snyder's work seems to glory in fantasies of power and cruelty (300) or power and corruption (Watchmen) or ... call it power-and-badness fantasies, I guess ... I do have to wonder why he chose that particular fantasy to aim at.
I want to study that man like a bug in a jar, and I'm not sure I'll like what I find there.
not to shit on zack snyder again but it's really funny that he tried to make a big, grand, complex moral quandary on where superman should stand when he saves people around the world and then james gunn is like "he wants to do it because he thinks it's the right thing to do". sometimes going simpler means you get to the crux of what the character is all about much more efficiently. like wow it's really that easy

One part of how amatonormativity affects stories is that while platonic relationships between characters have to be specifically justified and explored (why are these characters friends, how do they get along, what do each of them get out of the relationship and value in the other?) "Love" of the romantic sort gets treated as a motivation that needs no explanation and can be applied to a character universally in the same way always. Why are these characters in love? They just are, man!! It's Love! You don't need to think about why a character would fall in love or unique ways in which their romantic feelings would be expressed because it's Love and Love needs no justification and always leads to the same results: crush-> confession -> kiss -> have sex (if age-appropiate) -> marriage -> 2.5 kids and a house.
This can lead to some really badly written romance where it feels like the characters stop being themselves to be pushed through the standard beats of the Romance Plot with no thought about how well those beats fit them. This might be part of why fandom's so obsessed with noncanon ships, as non-romantic relationships do need to have a specific dynamic and reason to care about one another, which it turns out also makes for a more interesting basis for a romantic relationship.
However, sometimes fandom runs with this phenomenon and does it to itself. And I don't just mean rolling an interesting dynamic through the Romance Plot Flattener themselves (though that too.) I mean that fandom sometimes takes a look at a canon romantic relationship and assumes the same rules of "no explanation or expression needed" must apply even when there is a unique and specific dynamic with narrative underpinnings and justifications to dig into. The fact that the characters are "In Love" supplants all their other motivations, and the fact that they are in love cannot possibly be something that tells you something specific about a character, because Love is Universal and Hegemonic and always manifests in the same way everytime, duh. And then some of those people decide they dislike this canon romance and it's shallow and boring and there's nothing to it except cookie cutter romance even when there literally is you have just decided via mass hypnosis not to see it– This is a post about Suselle Deltarune.
#complaining and whining about fandom#deltarune#amatonormativity#suselle#'suselle is just wholesome yuri and noelle's entire personality is replaced with a Crush when susie is around' i'll kill you#WHY is 'how someone acts around their crush' not considered part of their personality? hm? oh because you think it's a universal trait?#even though it blatantly differs between people? fascinating. this sounds like a skill issue#like... the fact that Noelle Has A Crush is taken to be both the start and end point of their relationship.#no thought to how this will Change and Grow. Little thought to how it developed in the first place#aside from 'good girl falls for bad girl#because that's the trope!! and romance is universal and falls into perscriptive categories so you can always blindly rely on the tropes!#i need to start writing suselle meta or i'll die#susie#noelle holiday

The fact that Cassian easily disposes of Tivik, doesn't interact with Bhodi, Baze and Chirrut as much as Jyn does - coupled with the fact that he is generally presented throughout the movie as an extremely aloof and cautious person - makes me think that the bond he had with Kay was incredibly special.
They all went to Scarif knowing they would most certainly die. Yet as K-2so is dying he not only cries out for him, he was going back. If Kay hadn't closed the door he was probably either going to get himself shot or kill people and risk ruining the mission; literally the most sacred thing for Cassian, just to get Kay out of there alive.
This lone aspect of Ro1 has fascinated me for years. Usually when anyone in SW goes back for a droid it's implied to be a sort of "exceptionally kind" being. They're treated like disposable machinery. You see, say, Luke, Hera, Poe, and Jeager being extremely protective of their droid friends; but they're characters who are meant to be seen by the audience as incredibly considerate and attached in a way that is rare.
However, Cassian? Reacting like that? When the first thing he does within the first 20 minutes of the movie is kill a human being just because there's a chance he might snitch?
What I'm saying is that I really love just how much was implied about their dynamic in such a small window of time and it makes me sad that this wasn't explored in the Andor show.
#Cassian Andor#k 2so#andor critical#i think it classifies as such in its own way#also#Droidcaptain#idgaf i think they clearly loved each other

Recently found out that in the cancelled season 4 there was ideas for Sentinel to get really fucked up by the end of the Trial of Megatron stuff where its literally mentioned that his frame gets kind of mangled and he gets an eyepatch and chooses to keeo his injuries and that’s so fascinating to me regarding his character??? And also like, interesting stuff to think about how Elita and Sentinel been changed physically and mentally but how Optimus has grown more personality and emotionally wise with any physical stuff either being minor/temporary (the wings for the fight against megatron, the idea of that big upgrade he’d use in s4, etc..)
All this to say I’m super interested in the concept of a Sentinel Prime with disabilties and chronic pain because he’s a stubborn asshole who as we know literally got a building dropped on him in Auto-boot camp and still came back to work the next day with a cast on his arm and leg. Especially since this is tfa cybertron and not a situation like Magnus in tfp where they were doing their best with limited resources
wait seriously?? holy SHIT that would've been the coolest thing. partially because i wanna see sentinel flattened, but it would also be so interesting to explore a sentinel who doesn't have his strength to back him up.
like, sentinel relies on his might, so what happens if you strip that away from him? what happens when you cripple him, physically and mentally? what happens when you make him hurt? would he fold under the pressure, or would he continue being himself because his stubbornness is the one thing nobody can take from him?
MAN, i wish we could've seen this.
#also now i can project my knee pain onto him#transformers#sentinel prime#transformers animated#tfa sentinel prime#maccadam#answering things

When Dream finds out that Classic is chilling (Kinda) with Nightmare will his reaction be more like A:
Shocked and upset that this random ass guy who came out of nowhere is able to connect to his brother better than he has in 500 years (and didn't tell him sooner)
Or B:
VERY CONCERNED he has been chilling with MULTIVERSAL TERRORISTS, especially his brother who has literally already 'hurt' Classic badly and seems to have anger issues and just is violent in general
I feel like Classic doesn't acknowledge the fact that they're multiversal terrorists enough. Like what do you mean 'eh it happens'?
... Is all of the above an option?
Seriously though, this is a moment I'm looking forward to writing. The drama will be real.
Also yes- Classic is the definition of nonchalant. It's likely wildly out of character for the typical Classic in fics, but in STTMH I took that to an extreme due to an interpretation I have:
If you go through countless upon countless of resets, what would be your mindset when you broke free?
I don't really see anyone staying fully 'sane' or 'normal' after that. You have the mental, emotional, physical, and magical toll to handle, after all.
This is a theme that is going to be explored in the story. ;)
#sttmh#classic sans#sort of a classic headcanon#i love philosophy so it will likely come through in my writing and themes XD

reconstructing the poorly constructed female characters in nbc hannibal. by lamb. do yours, too, I'd love to read it.
alana bloom: the unspoken annoyance of this character is that the protagonists like her, yet the writing fails to show the audience why (probably because the author assumed her appearance was enough reason given she's the most conventionally attractive woman on the show and it's not a coincidence she was chosen as "the girlfriend"). so make her likable and interesting ffs. what would attract will graham and hannibal lecter? not an average person, for sure.
so let's have her more quiet, mysterious, intriguing, give her strange and vague lines, make her seem like she knows more than she lets on.
I'd introduce her as a someone who is interested in profiling Will and does consider it, without fluff about wanting to be his friend. "yes, I would profile him...but I don't want to. seems like that would cost me more than I'm willing to pay. so thanks, but no thanks."
make her weary of him, not with the pathetic savior complex. it's the contradiction again...she's supposed to be smart, but the writing fails her, making her look stupid and clueless. so make her fucking smart. make her attracted to will but aware that there's something boiling beneath the surface. "you're hot but you freak me the fuck out."
some weird murderer of the week is being analyzed and she says "yeah I know all about that", hinting at her mysterious life and past. maybe she had a psycho for a father, maybe she was married to some crazy person.
make her useful to abigail, not the generic psychologist the poor girl could never truly open up to. "you only know love through the cold steel of a knife. be careful what abuse you confuse with care." make her a little bit more realistic? what sabe woman wouldn't question a middle aged man's fixation on adopting a 19 year old? idgaf if he was your fucking mentor or whatever girl, as a psychiatrist that's absurd behavior that she never even once asked H what was up or warned Abigail to be less open. "I know him, but he's a man and you are a girl, and that's honestly a bit inappropriate so please think about your choices." give the girl an actual option. "you don't need to spend the night at a man's house, a man you barely know, stay with me if you hate the hospital so much". cause like...why bother crying about her death on the car if you didn't try to help?
when she comes to will, make her less hesitant. have her own her attraction. "I'm gonna have sex with you but I can't date you". he would literally be like yes girl, ideal, thanks lol. why can't she fuck the guy she is attracted to without all this fluff? give her more emotional agency and autonomy. she could fuck him without it meaning anything, ffs she's a grown ass woman.
maybe he gets weird during sex and she's like damn I'm kinda into it. make her self aware (as a fucking psychiatrist) of her own crap. make her turned on by it, willing to explore it with agenct!! because they do that in canon but make her look like a clueless idiot which is contradictory.
also. her being "the female character who loses her emotional control" is so annoying and boring. she doesn't need to yell to showcase emotional reaction and sensitivity. "you are all so selfish and self centered you don't care about anything other than personal victory". call them out.
when will goes to prison, drop the savior complex ffs. "i knew there was something going on with him but fuck why am I even more attracted now that it's gotten worse?" make her fucking face her own fucked up patterns, they're supposed to like her for a reason right?
also. she should've suggested a threesome lol (an actual, intentional one). oh come on, she should've. stop playing the naive woman.
when she decided to date hannibal she should've at least been like. maybe if I get closer I can actually gather evidence to decide what I believe. maybe I'm smart enough to know not to trust men. maybe I have basic instincts and know that I should always keep my eyes open. maybe there's a reason this mf fits the profile.
and my god, if the point was to say "hannibal's soo good he manipulated even this smart woman", it failed dramatically because the writing does not depict her as smart. quite the opposite.
so make her weary, make her suspicious, make her follow him, snoop around his house, ask pertinent questions, have the idea of learning how to shoot on her own. if she's that smart.
and when all hell breaks loose make her smart enough to not go to his goddamn house alone??? or make her angry at least, give us a good fucking reason to get her there by herself. a moment of realization setting in and anger boiling up and she thinks of abigail, and she goes because fuck everything and everyone.
then idk man, make her actually attracted and interested in margot lol.
tagging moots in case they want to rant/hop in/get creative.
@charleemoon @patchouii @honeygrahambitch and whoever wants to.

I’m halfway through season 4 of the bear and I think I get now what my problem with the show is… it should have ended at season 1
And I’m saying this as someone who looooooved season 2. But I’m now understanding that that season was overtime… it was a spinoff… it was a remake years after lol
Cause what I’m seeing in season 3 and 4 is them hammering a point that was so beautifully made Season 1…
The whole you had fallen out of love with your passion, but seeing someone else have that spark can help you revive it. The, if you manage to get out of your head for a while you might connect with others and build something with them. The, you need to figure out some things to stop hurting people but that doesn’t mean you are not going to hurt them ever again… The… you gotta try!! And that’s what keeps your present.
That was literally all there exposed AND resolved in season 1. And the ending to that season was actually perfect in ways of giving hope without closing the doors to whatever might happen.
I love The Bear for its art. For the cinematography, the editing, the music!!!! But much like Carmy, I feel in a loop with it. Like it keeps trying each season to make the same point over and over. And though I love when we get this little episodes exploring each characters lives like Forks, Napkins, the fourth episode this season… I think for my own sanity and relationship with the show I’ll just take all these seasons and the ones to come as little specials. As windows into what my favorite characters are doing, the little adventures they are getting into. Because otherwise I’ll never leave the time loop lol
#the bear#anyways that’s that on that for now!#I do think is sort of my fault for over analyzing media always. I think what I’ve seen this season far is making some effort to fix some#wrongs from last season. but I also can’t help feeling it stuck in itself. in its own narrative. like storer just doesn’t know what else to#tell in the overall scheme of the story and keeps going in circles#but hey. the only way out of a time loop is by breaking cycles. even my own! lol#spoilers#not really?? but just in case?#and the sydcarmy of it all you ask?? well even for then the season 1…#finale was perfect. and for the rest I have fanfics lol

YALL. I promise I do more than complain on my blog, really.
But what is this I hear about us getting a new Red Hood run???
Let’s break this all down shall we.
DC are giving us absolutely everything we never asked for… “The core aspects of Jason’s character” ie what they believe are his core aspects - “his difficulties with personal connections, his badass training, his brooding hotness” -Did I read that correctly??
HIS BROODING HOTNESS?? -and his violent approach to heroism” Did they really think we as fans would be giggling twirling our hair kicking our feet excited that we get to see Jason’s “core characteristics” shown FINALLY GOD YES WEVE WAITED SO LONG WE FINALLY GET TO SEE HIS BROODING HOTNESS ON PAPER THANK GOD. So glad they included that phew. Not to mention “Every element of the book highlights the core aspects of Jason’s character” so we’ve got to expect his brooding hotness and all of the other characteristics they’ve put down as essential and his whole personality throughout the ENTIRE book. I can’t believe the writers think that’s one of Jason’s core characteristics agdjakhd. But we move on.
His difficulties with personal connections, okay. That’s something I admit is important to Jason’s character. He doesn’t connect well emotionally and I hope that gets explored
Badass training im sorry, that just sounds silly. Are they alluding to him using the al caste blades? Martial arts at the league of shadows?? Different fighting or training techniques with Batman? Marksman training as red hood? Because all of that could be interesting to explore, Or are they just saying “badass training” to make people think yippee “badass” let me go read it??
Violent approach to heroism, yes. That is actually something I myself and other Jason fans have been wanting. No more rubber bullets for the sake of Batman’s morals. Let Jason kill. I hope they let Jason kill people for the sake of his own morality and not unnecessary violence. If there’s one thing about Jason, he’s very meticulous. No death is uncounted for. He won’t be careless with his violence so I hope they don’t make him bloodthirsty in a way that makes him feel too antagonistic. I love a good antihero but at the end of the day, he’s always trying to save lives

Next, why are they introducing more girls into Jason’s love life?? They’ve already had Essence, Isabel, Rose and Artemis come and go, like where is this going?? Leave Helena alone please she’s too good for Jason. If you want to do a team up then okay, I’m all for 2 bad bitches teaming up, but romance??
And don’t come at me with ‘But Red, who said they’re dating, you’re jumping to conclusions?!’
Exhibit A

NICK ROBLES YOUR ART IS GORGEOUS BUT DAMN YOU
Next up, “Red Hood (the series) is gritty, bloody, sexy and stripped down”. WHY ARE YOU DESCRIBING IT AS SEXY??

“Get ready for an angsty sexy, and violent new chapter in Jason Todd’s legend”

…they’re really just going to keep describing the series as sexy 😭.
Yeah, there’s really no doubt that these two are going to hook up when they describe it as sexy AND it’s got a mature rating (17+). Really don’t know why they’ve forced this… literally no one wants this.
Okay, now let’s talk about the costume
The costume: I actually like it, so sue me. I love the black, I prefer his brown jacket but I like this too. I love the details on the shoulders and the neck and the ripped red on his gloves. It gives me cyberpunk, Tokyo-esque vibes and I quite like it. His face however is not it.

So in conclusion, Jason kills people whilst relishing in his brooding hotness, and getting it on with Helena.

See. ^^^ BROODING HOTNESS.
#I’ll probable read it just to see the massacrisation of the series#But yk online w an eyepatch and a parrot on my shoulder if you get what i mean#I’m also chronically late to all dc news#I mostly found this all funny and disappointing#It’s not something I’m angry about or anything so take this lightly#but yeah#Let me know what you all think#Red rambles#jason todd#red hood#batfamily#dc#Red Hood series#Red Hood comic#dc comics#helena bertinelli#long post

Kpop Demon Hunters (2025)
A film that follows Huntrix, an idol band, featuring our protagonist, Rumi & her two friends Zoey and Mira. They're demon hunters, who use the power of song to protect the world from demons. Things get complicated & messy when the demons form a boyband, Saja Boys, in order to combat Huntrix.
SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT
I loved the animation, especially the scene where Zoey's eyes turned into corn, then popcorn and Mira was eating the popcorn that was coming out of Zoey's eyes. It's wonderfully comedic & utilizes 3D animation. This can be said the same for the scene where they visit the doctor and his eyeballs enlargen & swell up. My favourite scene that used animation well, is when the Saja Boys' are singing Soda Pop and the city is washed with a pretty shade of purple as they sing. The first song and the animation was just, ugh. The action pairing with the music was soooo good.
I also really liked the character designs for all the girls, I think my favorite was definitely Rumi's. I loved her hair. The songs are super catchy and my favorite is TAKE DOWN. (Perhaps in the future I will do a review of the songs).
My biggest complaint of KDH, is that it was simply too short. I think that it would have been better if it was a series, since the exploration of the KDH universe is too much for a movie. I felt a few times whilst I was watching, it seemed like the movie was talking to me. I remember the moment where Rumi was talking to Jinu about her scars fading because of him, and I was like "when did that happen? I didn't even see that".
Instead of Jinu saying "Ah the voices are disappearing", I think it would have been more interesting if we had a moment where the voices literally manifested into his sister and mother. Or like when he looked at the girl who gave him the drawing, he saw his sister momentarily. Or maybe shadows that haunt him constantly that receed when he can't hear the voices anymore. Or maybe his scars glow, like Rumi's, because he's accepted himself. I wish the theme of shame was like.. since in the beginning, Jinu told Rumi that he left his family and she comforted him, his scars started glowing temporarily. And then when he admits the truth that he left them, his scars return back to being dark. It could have been an interesting message of, how lying to yourself about the brevity of your actions causes more pain in the long run.
Also, how did Jinu get the music for TAKE DOWN? I feel like Zoey wasn't fleshed out as much as the other girls, aside from when they were at HAN clinic & the doctor was talking about how her "eagerness to please". I think the moment where Rumi was talking about the lyrics of TAKE DOWN being too harsh & cruel and Zoey pulling out all her notebooks. I feel like there could have been a scene, where Zoey felt a bit useless since all her lyrics weren't helping. I really liked how Rumi felt conflicted, because it's almost speaking to her, a half-demon. I loved how it was used at the end to really hurt her.
The passing comment of Mira saying that "I guess I don't deserve a family", really struck me. I wish it was expanded, maybe Mira has a locket of the three together, or maybe her mom calls her and Mira ignores it.
Most of the Saja boys are ugly, aside from Jinu, and like, I don't even know their names.
I wish they expanded more on the theme of identity & shame, I think that the message is good, like embrace every part of yourself, because even if others shun you for something, you can't do anything about it. About Rumi's scars, I remember thinking why didn't she go to Celine initially, since her scars were growing and affecting her voice. Moreover, did her scars also affect her arms/the rest of her body? If it can affect her voice, why not the rest of her body?
Anyways, I probably have more thoughts, I just haven't thought of them. Please reblog & comment!!! I'd love to talk to other people and what they feel too. If anyone is knowledge about Korean culture & how it influenced kdh, please comment! I'd love to know more.

A view on Burning Shores DLC

I hope Seyka returns in Horizon 3. She and Aloy are a perfect fit. And the DLC tells us an important story. I want to shine some light on what Horizon is really about. Because it feels like many forgets, or simply ignores, the story of Aloy. I’ll also mention the power this one flashpoint holds over the fandom and the future of Aloy and Seyka, and the possibility of a step back in queer representation in games.
I personally don’t understand comments like: «The DLC/Seyloy was rushed». In a world like Horizon, they fight hard for their survival everyday, it makes sense they would love just as hard. No judgement was given to Varl and Zo. Heck, even Talanah fell fast for Amadis, and tracked him down all of FW. If anything, this opinion is so subjective on how a player experienced the DLC. Horizon isn’t supposed to be a RPG based on a player’s choice, but it feels like it’s going that direction. And that worries me a lot because: it’s not the player’s story; it’s Aloy’s!
Horizon is afterall a narrative driven game with RPG elements. Guerrilla should push on to deliver the story they want to tell us about the world, and about Aloy.

The DLC delivers perfectly the next step for Aloy, which Forbidden West literally has foreshadowed all along. Varl and Zo, Talanah and Amadis, Alva with a gf back home, and especially the storyline about Tilda and Elisabet. So many other sidequests are about love. And many about romantic love. Forbidden West is about Aloy opening up for friendship and finding a team, finally starting to rely on others than herself. And when she allows herself to do that, she starts to allowing herself feeling romantic feelings.
And that’s the point with the DLC. It’s about Aloy’s next step. Horizon has always been about Aloy and her journey. Not our journey as a player. And the flashpoints at the end of BS, is constructed very bad. It’s one of the few that has a different outcome, normally the flashpoints are there to convict Aloy’s deepest emotions in different ways, but almost every outcome goes the same.
Here we can end or build a relationship with Seyka - and it’s up to us as players? It’s the most cowardly move I have ever seen in a game.
Aloy has through the whole DLC, fallen more and more for Seyka. And to deny her these feelings at the end because PLAYERS should decide if Aloy is ready for the next step?? No. Aloy is ready. She has proved that. Aloy even says: «I thought I would never feel this way about anyone»- this is the first time she has fallen in love. And that should be respected. But we can deny her that? It’s super weird when you take a step back and think about it.

Seyka is perfect for Aloy, because they recognize a lot in each other. And often, that is something that attracts us to another person. They challenge eachother, banter a lot, but there is always respect. They respect eachother quickly. Seyka especially is honest about what’s going on, and what she needs help with, and sees that she can help Aloy in return. They both keep their secrets. But then they both open up to eachother.
It’s also sad to read about Seyka only being treated as the romance option, which ofc is a natural state that she enters because of the development of the DLC. But many forgets that she is her own person, and in many ways she is the main protagonist in BS. I can write a whole post about Seyka to explore this further, but for now:
Seyka has a lot of emotions and shows struggles with the Quen beliefs, and belonging to a tribe. Which Aloy also has dealt with! BUT, the point with FW is that Aloy learns about the importance of a people again. Something she ran away from in Zero Dawn. And when she sees Seyka struggling, Aloy sees a part of herself, and she knows the pain. And she wants to help Seyka with this. They bond over it. And that’s why the theme «home» at the end is so important. They both realize and learn this from eachother.

Also, it had to be a new character to romance. Imagine it being a character we already know, it wouldn’t have been fair to any of the multiple ships that is out there. And if one reason to romance an existing character is that we already have a connection to them, then we are missing the point again. Because it’s about Aloy, and who she falls in love with- not us. And also, it wouldn’t have guaranteed that fans would be okay with an existing character to romance, you would have to learn to like that character as well.
And so if Horizon 3 moves forward to give us multiple romance options, it will be the biggest set back in the series. It should not be a focus on romancing characters at all, because Horizon has never been about that, and frankly, Aloy doesn’t have time for it. That’s why in every scenario, Aloy needs to leave Seyka behind regardless. And that makes sense. If Aloy starts romancing seven different characters, it will not make sense for her story at all.
Horizon 3 should give us Seyka or no one, and honestly, it will be fine if they don’t end up together before the ending. Because the main story will be about Aloy’s finale battle to save the world from a threat- the side story will be about Aloy’s emotions. And it will be much better if they focus on her current development with Seyka, than pleasing fans and give us many choices. Because when will we have time to develop that connection with these other characters so that it will make sense? And if that isn’t an issue, than what’s wrong with Aloy and Seyka’s «rushed» romance? Perhaps that wasn’t the issue all along; the issue was perhaps that fans don’t like Seyka because she is the only romance option, and people are jealous. Then I ask again: do you really understand Horizon and respect Aloy’s story?

Fanshipping, fanart and fanfiction is one thing. But all in all, Aloy’s canon journey should be respected. These two years I’ve seen the majority of fans neglecting this side of Aloy, and pushing this narrative out of the picture, which also means Seyka has been pushed away. The danger with this message is: «we want gay characters, but not like this». And it even shows on Guerrilla, who has stopped promoting their queer characters, IN OUR TIME OF 2025!!
Should we not protect what we have and got in Burning Shores DLC? Instead fans complain, and wants other romances, and neglects Aloy’s queer journey by choosing NO?! How petty can one be, to not seperate your fanship with an actual queer representation because «it’s not good enough». This is what we have. And imagine what we can have if we unite instead of pushing it away and pretend it never happened.
And so what about ship wars? This is just as petty as neglecting. But I think the root of these wars is that we don’t respect each other, and because we all have different views on Aloy’s story. If you are reading this and already feel angry about it, it’s most likely because our views are different. Or maybe it’s because you know deep inside that I’m onto something, that you don’t want to acknowledge.
But if we can agree on anything, it should be about fighting to keep the queer representation in Horizon, rather than fighting among ourselves and complain so much that even the gaming developers stops promoting it.
#horizon forbidden west#aloy#aloyandseyka#seyloy#burning shores#burning shores dlc#queer characters#a long analysis#i’m tired of not seeing more protecting of these gays#guerrilla you better bring them back#seyka#i will go down with this ship#i love them your honor#i will fight for them#queer gaming

Why use code?
Robot Revolution introduces the idea of communicating meaning through a secret code, which only a particular audience can understand. You need to be educated and initiated into the code - as the Doctor does for Belinda.
This scene acts as a microcosm of series 15: preparing the audience for the "code" of figurative devices that they'll need to read in order to pick up on the story's hidden layer of meaning.
But why use code at all?
Robot Revolution offers at least two reasons:
Because you'll be endangered if your oppressors overhear, but you need a way to communicate with your fellow rebels/oppressed.
Or: because the truth is too shameful, too impossible to admit even to yourself, to speak it directly.
These two reasons line up fairly neatly with the two main "secrets" that the season has been hiding in its subtext. The first is the Master: the ghost haunting the narrative, the face in every mirror, the one whose place in the story and relationship with the Doctor can never quite be spoken. On this level, the story engages with a whole history of queercoding, with the reason the Doctor/Master relationship has always been so steeped in implication and subtext.
(Here, I need to at least spiritually cite the half-remembered tjlc metas I read in high school. fwiw, I think the show is also engaging to some extent with decade-old tjlc meta)
The other secret: the Doctor's trauma, and grief, and guilt, and suicidal ideation, and the way they've covertly come to rule the entire story. Something has been repressed from his memory ("I think my daughter died and I forgot"?), and yet it keeps bleeding into the narrative, over and over again, playing out in shadows on the wall.
A few other functions that code and metaphor can play:
Sometimes you're working through something in art that you can't, or don''t want to, articulate directly (both "closet fiction" and work about trauma often play in this space)
Code allows for flexibility: your metaphors can be messy or mixed in a way that grants them the capacity for many meanings; you can examine something from multiple different facets; you don't have to pin it all down into a single literal form (for example: it would be much more difficult to effectively explore a single character as a teen misogynist warped by technofascism into a tragic monster, as a mother trying to survive violent ableism, and as a Funny Cartoon Man through purely literal means)
Code is a means of finding and communicating with People Like You ("She's the only person that I've ever met who's even remotely like me.")
A coded layer of meaning can be an encouragement to think critically, to not just accept the narratives you've been given (there's a reason - between Alan's star certificate, Conrad's dream of a 50s patriarchal utopia that never existed, and the Rani's vision of reviving the ubermensch of old - that there's been so much focus on fascist origin myths)
Series 15 is telling a story that doesn't strictly "have" to be told through code - you can Make Doctor Who Gay On TV now; you can have your characters recite therapy speak about their trauma; you can try to find tasteful ways to engage in purely literal terms with real social issues in your campy sci-fi family show. But this is a story that's interested in the purposes that code can still serve.

I am moreso tb critical . They barely spoke any lines to each other and the time they got together was the au episode to justify it . Also I’m not going to say but a famous voice actor keeps trying to make his ship happen . Also it feels like everything jinx is or does is erased bc omg couple goals . And it’s the whole puppy crush taken to a next level .
Yeah, I find the whole thing personally a bit baffling, because I was totally okay with what was actually there on the show. I remember sitting there at the end of Episode 6 with my girlfriend going "Well we're 2/3rds through the series with no Ekko, I guess they're really not doing Timebomb stuff hey." And then episode 7 lmao.
The AU was an, uh, novel way to deal with Ekko's unresolved feelings about his childhood friend turned nemesis, but the payoff seemed to be spelled out? I thought? It really felt like it was laying Ekko's crush to rest as he accepted Jinx couldn't be the Powder of his dreams.
I just didn't get any romantic vibes at all from Main Timeline Ekko and Jinx, the contrast between them and his romance with AU!Powder made that even clearer, as did everything that happened in the final battle and after. His last shot is burning a mourning paper into the breeze, literally letting her go, ffs.
It's a pretty cut and dried Perfect World Bubble Episode trope and I thought it put a bittersweet, poignant full stop on their troubled relationship.
But then the fandom happened, and to be honest, while I once respected Timebomb as a valid, understandable alternate ship for Jinx, I'm done with it now.
I can't deal with the Canon Brigade. I can't stand Lightcannon shippers being all but forced at gunpoint to preface every social post with "guys I also like Timebomb but" or risk being harassed. I can't stand all mentions of "Lux" and "Lightcannon" being banned on relevant reddit subs. I don't like bullies and homophobes and I won't bow to either.
No, I don't like Timebomb, I never will again, thanks to people like this. You could almost say "I had a crush, until I started talking to the fans..."
No, I won't multiship, I don't care if you do, but I don't have to, and I don't.
Both ships were crack ships based on throwaway scraps of dialogue until Amanda Overton got heart eyes and it's time to stop pretending there's any more validity than that.
Lightcannon was, literally, here first, and pretending it's somehow less valid and has no place in the fandom is just homophobia and queer erasure and I have no time for that shit.
If people want to ship Timebomb, if they see something meaningful there that I don't, I'm not going to tell them they can't have it, who the fuck am I? Just another shipper with opinions.
All I can say is that it just doesn't work for me. And I love Ekko, I love Jinx, but their stories, their canon, has had barely anything to do with each other until now, and erasing them both to force the genius time twisting hero of the Undercity and the chaotic freewheeling destruction terrorist into a hetero tradwife fantasy is throwing away 99% of both of their stories and doing both characters a massive disservice.
Don't get me wrong, Ekko is great, I f'cking love writing him, his whole League canon is amazing and it's heartbreaking that they tossed it away for Arcane, the dynamic of their broken friendship is rich and interesting to explore, but it's better off as that. They both have better options that open up whole new adventures instead of ending their stories.
