I guess I can see how if they (the Sparda boys) weren’t related shipping them would be interesting. I think a better question for me to ask is why incest? You said it was the cherry on top, so why is it appealing to you? Is it a taboo thing or like a dark fantasy type thing?
I’m sorry if I’m being overly nosey. Obviously you don’t have to reply to me again. I just don’t know anyone who likes this type of stuff and I’m curious as of why some people do.
Tumblr media
No worries! I chose to answer this more in depth anyway, because I feel like it's a valuable topic to discuss and it's important to understand where other people come from, especially if they naturally tend to have a different perspective from oneself. Still, thank you for being respectful, I can tell you're just genuinely curious and I personally don't mind explaining! Since I have answered a very similar question before on twitter, I'll direct you to my answer there as a first intro to it, and then expand since this is tumblr and I don't have to fit my answers in many tiny character limited boxes. So: like I said in that sp answer, it simply appeals to me, on an intrinsic, personal level. When there's something morally wrong in a potential fictional couple, if I already liked their dynamic, it just draws me more to it - I do think the simple fact of having a taboo aspect plays into it, though I don't know to what degree necessarily.
Personally, when it comes to dmc and spardacest specifically, I do really, really enjoy playing with the demonic aspect of it - there's something deeply, deeply satisfying to me as a queer neurodivergent person who grew up bullied and ostracized all my life and have been treated like a freak and an animal and an other my entire childhood, to imagine a humanoid-but-not-quite species that can shift form at will, and has completely different moral/societal/biological rules from regular human society, and subsequently imagining a character that's been brought up their whole life to believe they were a human and full of fucked up things wrong with them, only to discover that, hey! Actually they weren't human, they were something else just vaguely human looking all along, and all their flaws are actually features among the species they belong with. In that way, I do think it's wish fulfilment, though very much metaphorical and not 1:1 to reality or anything I personally experienced or related to. It just feels good in the brain to play with that. (similarly, it's why dbh as another fandom I've been very into for a long time also draws me - androids are very good for making similar analogies, even if there isn't anything necessarily inherently "fucked up" there by regular irl standards, unless you count two androids of the same model fucking as akin to incest, or want to claim some kind of unbalanced power dynamic in an android/human couple lol) In that way, the incest is simply an extension of it - it's not appealing to me because it's morally wrong or fucked up, but because I like to assign traits that would be repulsive to an average human to the Spardas as a species, and explaining them as instinctual/natural to them (for example of other nonsexual things, also things like a tendency for extreme violence and heightened aggression, cannibalism, territorialism, etc ), so at the end of the day, the incest is more a way to play with the existing dynamics and explore my own hc's, than something I'm into for its own sake (and actually, if we have to be honest, before I got into dmc I was really not that into fictional incest for its own sake lol! Not for any personal disgust reasons like I said, but it was just completely neutral to me, not something that would attract me to a fictional ship for its own sake, but not something that would repel me either. In that way, I do think I enjoy it far more as pack and parcel of their demonic nature than for its own merit.) I understand that to some people, otherwise liking a fictional couple's dynamic might be extinguished the moment they find out/realize that there's something morally wrong were they to be together (age gap, underage, incest, toxicity/abuse, etc). That's also perfectly fine and a perfectly acceptable way to navigate fiction. I just so happen to not really care that much in the realm of fiction. To me, it's always kind of been a given that it was separate from my irl morality, in the same vein some people love horror and gore and splatter media, and some people don't.
#asks#like i cannot stress enough how much I did not even vaguely start thinking about fucked up fictional this in relation to my irl morality#until the anti/proship online discourse started#like I dunno. like I said I've always been drawn to things like these#and like for a more practical example#I was REALLY into underage/age gap when I was practically a kid myself#nothing happened to me to make me seek it out i just got into kuroshitsuji in middle school and thought#'oh i really like this and sebastian and ciel are a really cool ship i want more of this'#and i had way too much unrestricted internet access#but thats besides the point#either way i just remember that feeling extremely separated from irl ventures#like i distinctly remember when i was that young being VERY sensitive to potential unhealthy/immoral age gap stuff going on around me irl#TW mentions of irl csa but like#i remember being in my first years of highschool and having one of my closest friends#be constantly dating and going out with and sleeping with 20/30yo men#and i was the FIRST one in my friend group to think that was insanely fucked up and that she was in danger and that these men were creeps#taking advantage of her#this doesn't really have a point besides trying to drive home how it's never been something that affected the way i viewed the irl world#and i firmly believe many younger kids today would never think that way either if they weren't being fed propaganda from the puritan side#and had better education re: media literacy#like if you're told your whole life for as long as you're able to read and get on the internet independently#that what you like in fiction is gonna affect what you think about real life morality and what you think is acceptable to do in reality#of course it's gonna warp what you end up believing and become a sort of self fulfilling prophecy#vs if it's just treated as normal that fiction is going to have some wild shit in it#and some things might not be age appropriate and some things might be disturbing and not your cup of tea but ultimately it all exists#in the vacuum that is the fictional world#then people develop a much stronger sense of division between the two much earlier#instead of having to basically cult deprogram yourself on your own once you become aware enough#anyway. enough yapping#sorry for hammering on something I'd basically already answered anon but I love a good food for thought moment!

For your gay little dogs

#principal skinner pride flag for my gay little dogs#you see this is why my dog people need to see the same spectrum of colors we do#I feel like their literal world view would be drastically altered if they couldn't distinquish between orange and green#I'd argue that red is a significant color in practically every culture#it's instinctual associations with danger food and fertility make it attention grabbing on a visceral monkey brain level#I strongly suspect the impact would be at least somewhat negated if it was a muted brownish khaki instead#meaning it wouldn't be used in visual communication nearly as much#I would have to center my art and worldbuilding more around yellow and blue because those would be the colors the dogs would see clearly#right? is that sound logic?#and that would just make me immensely sad because warm colors are my favorites :<#answered#m0notropa-uniflora#something that continues to boggle my mind is that there are animals that see more colors than humans#we like to assume that our color vision is the best we can see it ALL look at that rainbow there that's the full set#yes primates are well equipped in this regard compared to many other mammals like dogs#but most birds for example have more color receptors in their eyes they have more tools to work with and their rainbow is even wider#it's like sound everyone knows we can't hear sounds that are impossibly low or too high#and we can't process wavelengths of light that are too long (infrared) or too short (ultraviolet)#only what lands between those bookends (called the visible spectrum) reads to our human eyes as “light” and subsequently “color”#I hope I've understood this correctly I'm trying to say that there's a whole layer of vision we don't have the hardware to get access to#and that's just wild to me like we are fundamentally unable to imagine a new color that isn't already included in our built-in selection#but they're definitely there the unimaginable colors are in the room with you and a common pigeon can see them#uv dlc not available for your system

Notes on Jamil's speech patterns
I was supposed to just pick out some examples of typical Jamil lines. How he speaks, the vocabulary he uses, things like that. Something I could easily refer to when writing to get the tone right.
But then it kinda blew up, oop – because it’s hard to talk about how a character speaks without also dipping into why they say whatever they say.
Plus then I wanted to get examples of Jamil in different moods, and could not resist some poignant things that were more related to his character or backstory rather than strictly the speech patterns themselves, so… It expanded a bit.
Anyways. Some things I noticed he tends to do:
Sighs (more than I realized)
Snarks
Tch (though could be a more general twst writing choice too)
Stutters when he’s flustered / embarrassed / caught of guard (what a cutie)
Goes ahem like an old man when he’s trying to get back on track in those off-kilter moments
Kinda formal with his manner of speech and choice of words (especially in servant mode) (I always worry I exaggerate this but he sure does do that)
But there’s still some animatedness with the way he emphasises words, for example
(so long-suffering and ready to bark out directions to Kalim oh boy - the way the directness just comes through when he loses it)
sugarcoating his opinions if he doesn’t feel like he can say them plainly (tyrant becomes rigorous, etc.)
sarcasm, sometimes with a side of deadpan, sometimes with a smirk
“Good grief” (another thing I didn't realize was that much of a catchphrase)
Very mild on the level of insults & swears honestly, (I mean, "drat"?) but I imagine this is more of a result of the game's rating (I guess for in-game reasons we can say he's been very conditioned by his upbringing)
I put the screenshots that seemed telling, and some related notes, on to a google sheet. That way one can filter and order it in various ways.
The sheet is probably best viewed on a computer or another larger screen, the screenshots might make it a bit difficult to navigate on mobile.
I did go in with the assumption that Jamil might speak differently pre-overblot (when the servant mask is firmly in place) and post-overblot (at least those occasions where he allows himself to be more honest). Like, there’s the sycophantic (as Leona calls it) flatterer, versus when Jamil’s honestly voicing his own thoughts. Which also shows in how I chose to categorize the screenshots.
Of course events are a bit wibbly wobbly in relation to the main story so can’t be placed in the timeline in the same way, but there are still those occasions where it seems you can tell the difference between the servant mask and a Jamil who’s not saying things just for the sake of appearances.
So, to explain the logic of the sheet:
First column has a screenshot of something Jamil says. The second two columns give the source.
The column for whether or not this happened before or after the overblot is only really used for main story things, since event stories are kinda murky timeline-wise.
Next is whether Jamil seems to be putting on the servant mask or speaking more honestly. This is where get more to interpretation territory, and I’ve not applied it to every screenshot (either because that didn’t seem like the relevant part for that line, or because I couldn’t tell).
The last column of the sheet is where we get most to my personal interpretations. So of course you might read these lines differently than I do, and that’s completely fine, these are simply the aspects that seemed poignant to me. Some notes are simply pointing out specific word choices or style of speech, others delve more into character analysis side of things.
Totally fine if you want to copy this file or modify it to your own needs. All I ask is that you don’t pass off anything I wrote as your own thoughts.
Order of lines is based purely on the order the pics were in my screenshots folder, so guess this is also an insight on the order I played things in, lol.
Tagging some jamil peeps in case y'all find this useful:

I am riddled with ailments, but I stay silly!
#ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. Class is dismissed.#I'll be back later with a few more answered asks </3 despite everything I'm still going to work and I need the extra sleep.#Thank you for the well wishes! And if you read all of that info dump; thank you for that as well!

Okay, but now I really am thinking more about people who are upset that the gods "played favorites" and gave some of their followers more power than others, but learning that there needs to be (I need the transcript and it's not released yet so I'm just throwing stuff out there) essentially mutual love is like... yeah of course the gods are giving some followers more power than others because those people are, as a general rule, WILLING to take on that power. They ask for it. Not everyone WANTS that power.

Veilguard vaguing:
It's not automatically a good thing, actually, that the game de-emphasizes or even outright removes racism against elves, and bigotry against other groups, from the story
#veilguard critical#completely declawing the sociopolitics of the story doesn't in any way make it a better story ugh#being of a certain race and even of a certain gender should mean something in the dragon age world and not all those things are good#and that's part of the challenge of the roleplay and part of the themes of the whole overarching story like#tevinter! is a location in this game!!#not to focus on just the elves but if we're not feeling the absolute depths and desperation of all the elves#not just the dailish#then there's no way to feel much complexity or conflict over - for example - what solas is trying to do and why he's so motivated#his character is boiled down to him being by himself and feeling conflicted over just his past actions#as if he didn't spend all of inquisition investigating yours and the companions' differing plights and worldviews#tbh though one of the biggest failings of inquisition is maybe possibly not highlighting the dailish and city elves enough#to help drive home this point - but veilguard is so clearly just kind of out here by itself with loredumping that goes completely#uninvestigated socially or politically that like... it doesn't matter much#like we just have to pretend that everyone is playing kumbaya now? with the elven god of rebellion real and running around?#that you can walk around anywhere in tevinter practically unbothered?#like bellara and davrin and every dailish elf in thedas aren't at all significantly moved by knowing their gods are just some guys?#i get more and more pissed at -good vibes- storytelling in all its mediums with every passing day#ISMtext

here are some very random martial arts headcanons for some of the jjk characters bc why the fuck not. btw yes i am aware that most of them practice more than one style of fighting i just think that these are smth that they'd really like as well!!!!
toji likes brazilian jiu jitsu – he got into that a bit later in life, he did more hand-to-hand combat training when he was younger but ever since he discovered brazilian jiu jitsu, he's been obsessed with it. he can use his size and his strength, and his whole entire body and that makes him feel very confident. he's very good at those on the ground throws,, like when he's being pinned down, he always manages to literally toss the opponent off of him and then immediately put him in a hold. it looks incredibly easy when he does it lmao
satoru likes muay thai – HE LOVES DOING SHIN KICKS idk he's so into them. he looks like a maniac when he's fighting btw he's constantly smiling and it's a little scary (it's very hot). since in muay thai there's a lot of elbow and knee hits too you can get very up close to your opponents and i think this is also something he really likes!!!!! mmm during fights he also likes to rile his opponents up lmao
suguru likes wing chun – suguru is the only one i struggled with assigning just ONE style bc i feel like he's veeery very into different types. but wing chun is very fast and it involves punches and slaps and just redirecting the hits coming your way,, wing chun fighters always look so calm while doing it and idk i really think this could be his thing. honorable mention goes to aikido!!!!!!!! he likes it when he doesn't have to hustle around too much, he likes it when he can just put somebody in their place with a mean little grin on his face.
sukuna likes kickboxing – he's all abt that raw power. he loves throwing punches and he's very similar to satoru in the sense that he too, looks like a fucking freak when he's in the ring. they both love the adrenaline so fucking much. in contrary to muay thai, kickboxing has more leg kicks, sooo you can keep your distance a bit more but he's more than fine with that bc that way he can truly show how hard he can hit lmao he has an insane right hook aaand he also really loves doing high leg kicks:333333
megumi likes judo – takes after his dad:3333333 he trained a lot with toji when he was younger but since toji rarely let him win it was mostly just little gumi being a grumpy little sea urchin lmao the fighting styles are both mostly abt grappling and ground work buuut while jiu jitsu is more abt making the other submit by putting them in a hold, judo is more abt throwing ppl around and megumi really likes that. it makes him feel really strong. (he likes to stare down at his opponent after he's just gotten the point i think he can be very mmm cocky sometimes lmao)(he learned that from toji)
yuuji likes wrestling – HE'S THEE BOY EVERRR!!!!! ofc he works out a lot but he's got soo so much raw strength and he loves it when he can put that into use. he's won like SO many competitions lmao i think he's very lighthearted abt the fights though and he has literally no beef with anybody (kind of like hinata yk?)(others definitely have beef with him though bc he's so stupidly strong lmao) he's very concentrated during the match but the second he's won he's got a bashful big grin on his face!!!!!!!!!! he enjoys the sport a lot a lot a lot!!!!
nobara likes taekwondo – IT'S SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she loves it and she has been practicing it ever since she was little. she loves kicking and punching she's very energized all around!!!! SHE GOES TO COMPETITIONS ALL THE TIME TOO!!!!!!!!! oh and she and yuuji are constantly sparring despite the fact that their styles are so different lmao (yuuji will get his ass beat bc he's kind of.. afraid to throw nobara)(but then gets called a 'pussy' bc nobara says he should fight her with all his might)

You mentioned something about becoming human/taur being spells in the tags, what's stopping non-taur humans from learning it?
Thanks for the question! Same thing with Waterspeak, nothing really! In fact I think Sirpa was born as a two-legged human, but spends and has spent considerable amounts of time in the water as a mermaid because her mother is a mermaid. I guess you could consider her “half mermaid” as a result! She could’ve very well been born as a mermaid but her parents had to think long and hard about what form would be easier for her to live in as her original form, given their location and fears about water pollution it was undeniably two-legged
Sirpa tangent aside, anyone at all can learn the spell that makes you a mermaid, or the spell that makes you a terrestrial taur, or the spell that makes you a taur that can fly, so on so on! However, it can be seen as really weird if someone who was born as a two-legged human to a family that’s pretty much always been only two-legged humans to suddenly start living life as a taur. Taurness is not only just a body shape, after all, but a culture. Several cultures! Even if taurs are humans with human sensibilities, they’re shaped so different, they wear clothes that are different, they move differently, they can do things that two-legged humans can’t and can’t do things that two-legged humans can, they specifically have had many many stories about how they could’ve come to be (two-leggeds not so much), they need their own furniture, sometimes they’ve even lived separately from other types of humans. Merfolk are the most extreme cases, since they quite literally live where terrestrial humans can’t go naturally and every bit of their life has been adapted to an aquatic environment. Even if it would be very cool to live as a taur in theory, it’s fundamentally a very different experience, a more difficult experience sometimes, and people would probably give one many glances if they decided to become a taur one day for no other reason than “just cuz”. You may have the shape of a taur, but are you really even a taur if you’ve never experienced the culture?
Nuance exists, of course, like if you have a lot of taurs in your family and ever since you were a kid you’ve lived your life as many forms that are all equally “you”, or if your taur friend was like “lol wanna see what your true animal form would be” one night and you tried it out once and that was it, or if you have lived for a while now with many taurs — usually taurs are a minority on land but there are exceptions, for example in a very mountainous, difficult-to-traverse region a good bit of people might just be taurs for their better balance — and eventually decided to become a taur to fit the customs of the community better, or if you paid one billiam dollars at an exotic recreational center where they “Let [You] Feel the Wilderness Inside You (TM)” by having folks explore like a wildlife area as taurs, then like, yeah lol those are some random examples where no one would bat an eye! Also ironically, even though merfolk are definitely the most removed from terrestrial humans as a whole, it would be most acceptable to become a merm if you have an extended stay underwater (work, vacation, whatever) and need accommodations for breathing and moving in the water and things like that. It’s simply seen as the easiest way to do things, however true that may be! Similarly merfolk on land have a lot of pressure to “simply become two-legged” even though accommodations like wheelchairs for merms exist (and all merfolk can already breathe air). It’s a little… sad. A lot of merfolk don’t really like that their own selves are treated as unimportant and disposable and that the “best way” to go about moving in a foreign environment is to literally ditch your own body away to become something else. Many taurs never become two-legged because it would remove a big part of themselves, so why are merfolk any different? These are unfortunately some societal problems of the Sirpaverse.
TL;DR: Any non-taur can learn the spells that make you a taur, however there are societal and cultural implications of doing that and it might not be very appropriate in all situations.
#if you could tell from the description of the one billiam dollar recreational experience theres a slight problem of making taurs seem -#somehow wilder than two-legged humans. as if they have a more animalistic brain or are more in tune with nature or let their instincts run#wild. their instincts which dont differ in any way from two-legged humans mind you#so while the recreational center experience is by all means legal and popular among tourists and vacationers#there are some people — many people! — whose reaction to you going would be “…………really now…????”#ahti is a pike merm but hes in no way an opportunistic aquatic apex predator in human shape that hunts anything he can grab#karleeen is a wolf spider taur but i think the only patrolling and rushing down prey shes doing is in spore#she doesnt want to have anything to do with such things#karleeen does like to climb a lot but she would like it anyway as a two-legged human. her upbringing is the main driving factor there even#if her many legs do make climbing much easier and faster#then again her mother is a spidertaur too so this kinda raises questions if they wouldve even practiced so much climbing if it wasnt easy…#but you know! thats a good example of taurness being related to culture in some way#nature vs nurture except the nurture ties back into your nature. funny that. but karleeen WOULD love climbing even if she wasnt a taur#and sirpa… sirpa likes fishing and eating fish but thats more just merfolk culture again. her family ate a lot of fish when she was a child#asks#thatonegaycactus#sirpaverse#sirpa#because thats her lore!#taur hour

So it was 1: Vespiary Squad! Seriously though, where have you been???
Tumblr media
there's probably tactical advantage to hiding while you got the weasel population up, and you guys are pretty clearly very attached to the weasels and so didn't want to take them into battle indiscriminantly, but also. I don't think it would be an entirely bad thing if Europa developed a few score of feral colonies of these guys.
... I suppose the more information is availiable on the wasp eaters the less time they have before their enemies counter them as a technology. and it would be ecologically irresponsible. but Lucrezia and everyone that works for her would hate that very much.

So, first off, this is not an attempt to kink shame (dubcon and noncon are great!) but I do keep seeing a thing in fics (I do NOT see this irl in kink spaces nearly as often) where like. A character will interrupt the flow of the scene to check consent
And I don't mean in an "are we still green?" Or "what's your color?" kind of way, but I mean. The author has tagged the fic and indicated via prose and/or author notes that they are doing their Due Diligence to make sure this fic is Righteously Consensual from top to bottom, No Question About It
And a character will ask for full sexual consent either directly or indirectly or renegotiate the boundaries of the kinks being practiced AFTER the sex acts have already begun.
Here's the thing: horny brain isn't great at making decisions! irl in kink spaces, there's often a lot of emphasis on negotiating BEFORE the scene begins, perhaps even with a space between negotiation and the scene if it's with a new/unfamiliar partner (maybe it's a few minutes while things are set up, maybe the partners negotiate a day or more in advance! It depends!), and not changing the parameters of the scene after someone is already horny or god forbid already in subspace.
Again, these are perfectly fine rules to break in fiction, when the author is aware of it (most characters are not going to be fully familiar with safe, sane, consensual practices and the traffic light system, nor would we want them to be!) but I'm increasingly finding fics where the author DOESN'T seem aware, which takes a normal fic (in-character, with reasonable but perhaps even somewhat dubious practices, which the author isn't emphasizing or preaching about) into Red Flag Territory (a character, OOC, yanking me out of the scene to behave like a PSA about consent instead of conforming to the horny tone of the scene, and perpetuating unsafe practices anyway)
If you are writing a master manipulator or someone who wants to have a gotcha, you totally said it was okay on a character they are trying to bone (which is well in the realm of non/dubcon) that's fine! This PSA is not aimed at you. But if you are trying to write someone who Cares Strongly About Consent, then perhaps be more aware of when is an appropriate time to escalate the situation (sexually speaking) or ask for consent!
