Hello folks! Been busy and offline for a bit...I have a whole checklist of people to reply to, asks or otherwise. Apologies to those waiting on me, I promise I haven't forgotten you <3
Anyway I just wanna say: I absolutely love writing fic. I adore it, I think storytelling is fantastic and I want everyone to have the opportunity to practice it. Even if people write things I won't read, I'm glad they're here.
To me, storytelling is about communicating a variety of things. You've got the story itself (characters doing things) and what it's about at the core (this could be a whole essay in of itself). But there's another thing specifically regarding fanfic: you get to talk about something you care about from the source material.
Introducing stuff that isn't as well known is so much fun! People can get touchy about fanon vs canon because they have a fundamental love for the source material and it feels a bit crummy to not be able to share it--but that just means it's up to you to write a fic to communicate that love!
I know, I know. It can suck to be the one having to write what you want to read. But consider how fun it is to be able to share it! Readers can tell when the writer is having a good time with their story. Persuade them to come and engage with what you enjoy by demonstrating why you care. And remember--the ultimate goal of critique should be to get someone making what they want to be making.
#idk just some things that have been on my mind for a while getting brought to the surface#i'd be lying if i said that some of my motivations for writing legato weren't grounded in wanting to bring attention to tfh and coh#two games i adore that are more commonly joked about than treated seriously--which is fine! they are bright and silly games#no idea if this terminology is dated now but i watched lets plays for most loz games when i was younger and unable to play them myself#and that in itself can be fun to bond over--a bunch of fsa fans have watched the same set of lets plays because it's wildly inaccessible#ultimately people can choose what they want to engage with#but in my personal opinion...it's more fun to encourage people to experiment than it is to ward them away from perceived mistakes#write that fic that's so out of character you feel obligated to tag for it just so readers know what they're getting into#research canon so obsessively that you consider adding citations so readers know what you're referencing#add ocs to see if you can get your readers to care about these random strangers#or make background characters so important it forever alters the way readers see them in canon#develop your own set of headcanons or stick so strictly to canon you also ignore fanon#write something that only contains things from fanon to the point that it might as well be a crowdsourced original work#and of course: have fun ^-^#starslog#now if only my wips would START COOPERATING WITH ME#XD i can't even tease their existence since i have no idea what will be completed first

as a former escape room host i highly recommend doing an escape room as a first date. its a great way to learn how ppl react under pressure and how well they collaborate with you right off the bat. also more than once ive seen people enter an escape room as a couple and exit broken up LOL its a fantastic litmus test
#i have done this as a first date and its very enlightening#ppl are usually on their best behaviors in the beginning of the relationships#so adding in a little manufactured stress for fun rly brings out ppls real personalities#in a highly controlled environment of course so that its not actually dangerous#do they yell when theyre frustrated?#do they give up?#do they take initiative to solve things or just follow your lead?#how do they react when youre wrong?#how do they react to losing?#however im biased... i just love escape rooms......

The funniest part of this new event is the fact I can't find out what's going on it from spoilers. All context is lost in the wave of Hot Eel Mom. I love her, all hail Georgina, mother of This and That, but where is the context? What *is* the event?
to be fair, we're still in the intro part, so not much has actually happened yet! Jade and Floyd were supposed to go to their mom's friend's wedding to help with the ancient merfolk marriage custom of

but Floyd last-minute changed his mind (on account of being Floyd) and Azul was like "I'm not going if your mom is going to be there". at which point Jade realized he'd just been handed a golden opportunity to invite the absolute funniest group of people he could think of.
anyway tl;dr Jade manipulates a bunch of nerds into joining him to heckle/throw bricks at/try to drown a couple of randos in the name of love, what could possibly go wrong

And I love making follow up comics for polls!#A huge bummer that this is the only time I ever got to show off my Yin Tiger Tally design...To me it was like a funny little bug creature.#And now it is forever broken...Broke ass bug...#And of course it is artsy and decorated with a tassel.
