I saw someone talk about what the hell is going on with the Saja Boys in the eyes of normal people post movie and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it

I mean first off there’s the question of the people at the stadium and how much they remember from that confrontation with Gwi-Ma and the Saja Boys. But even if they remember, the idol awards were international, they probably had fans that weren’t there, and how do you explain that they were actual literal demons trying to take their souls and have the rest of the world believe them?

And also in the grand scheme of things, the Saja Boys only existed for around 2 weeks. So in universe they were a group that showed up, released (as far as we know) one song that got crazy popular, won the idol awards by default due to Huntr/x breaking up, and then they immediately disappear from the face of the earth all within half a month. And the Huntr/x girls may or may not have killed them

It’d be even weirder once people start actually looking into these guys, because like, the Huntr/x fans know the girls’ backstories. When anyone goes to look for info on them and their backstory, even as just like, a documentary or video essay on the brief phenomenon that they were, they’re gonna come up completely empty. Like they literally don’t legally exist, and any documentation that might come up appears to actually be forged. No one knows where they came from. And Huntr/x can’t even be charged with killing them, because again, legally they never really existed, not to mention there’s no trace of any bodies

Possibly the closest thing they might ever find to proof of their existence is in centuries old documents, paintings and photos, which any sane person would assume isn’t them

Even if the world assumes the Saja Boys were some sort of publicity stunt secretly working with Huntr/x, there’s still no evidence the boys ever existed documentation wise, they literally just appeared out of thin air and then completely disappeared. Like at that point, I think people would start calling supernatural forces, which normally would sound crazy but it’s actually true here, and nothing else makes sense other than maybe actors who completely changed their appearance and identities for some reason

The "a thread of order" blog recently referenced something Carlos said after the 2024 RG final: “In the fifth set of the final is the time to give it all, fight until you can’t fight anymore. That’s what makes you a warrior, and I consider myself a warrior.” That quote, together with his constant references to the movie "300", his on-court histrionics and the supernatural big-final-moment level of tennis he can produce, made me spiral into an idiotic sincaraz fan-theory (OBVIOUSLY inaccurate and fictional.) So here it is:

I personally suspect that Carlos perceives matches (especially important ones) as if they were movies/plays and he's the one playing the hero & warrior archetype. It's partly why he needs the crowds: they're all part of the scene, and also big reactions feel more epic. And it's also why he can sometimes reach an unbelievable level at the acme of big matches, something that would require inhuman amounts of confidence and self-belief: that's because in that moment he's not just Carlos the excellent tennis player-normal guy, he's not just himself (that would cause some amount of insecurity) but he's actually embodying The Heroic Warrior archetype! And he knows that there's a divine narrative script in place for heroes in stories (matches) which will make him prevail at the end. It's basically a narrative archetype/role he tries to live up to and embody in matches, because he needs to see the matches and himself as "something more" in order to then get more from himself on court. And when the opponent is weak or the match isn't exciting the illusion of being the Hero-Warrior is obviously harder to maintain obviously.

On the other side we have Jannik, who tries to block out the crowd and be composed, and only communicates with his team and his opponent. Where Carlos tries to see the whole stadium as part one big scene that's enacting something more than a tennis match, Jannik tries to shrink his world to the strict permiter of the singles court plus his own box. For him it's a competitive pro game, it's his career and his public role, it's exciting and fun and terrible but it's not a big metaphor or an archetypal flight of fancy. He's competing against his opponent and trying to play the best tennis possible. He's "just" himself on court, the player-version of himself.

[I wonder if this maybe would have something to do with Jannik not focusing on tennis until he was 13 (and having a more gradual and setback-prone rise) while Carlos has been immersed in tennis from birth basically (and has obviously had a more sudden and easier rise in the scene.) I don't think that can be the reason though, it's too superficial.]

op this essay is awesome. i was just answering an unrelated ask and coming to the same conclusion that carlos thrives on the narrative import of big moments. he is Aware of them in a way that not every athlete can let themselves be aware, he is Aware of what it means to rise to the occasion. classic advice is "pretend it's just another match" but carlos demonstrably performs better in Big Moments than in just another match.

also think this contributed to the post-olympics crashout. not just defeat, not just a match he could have won, but failure at the ultimate climax of the ultimate stage of the biggest theater in sport, the global superevent literally created to propagate the idea that Sports Is More Than Sports. all that, and here's where he finds out that sometimes sheer protagonism just isn't enough. narrative of choice trumped by other, bigger narrative. i'm sure that was wildly destabilizing to experience for the first time, lol, good (????) thing he's got the protagonism back on track now.

this all just boils down, again, to the question of ego and self-made mythos and can you achieve greatness without storytelling. And he smells like old leather. New leather has such a strong smell. I walked into a store at the mall that was selling leather jackets and that's all I could smell. It's old, a bit faded but you can smell it if you huffed him enough.

To me? Sam has this cologne he wears that Jess gave him. Not cheap but not too entirely expensive. Affordable. Cederwood mixed with hints of ginger.

We all know and we all agree that Castiel smells like honey because he loves bees. Of course, that is the easy way to go. Agree with everyone. But I also believe there are hints of lemon mixed in.

Crowley also smells smokey. Not like fire. Like smoke. And I am not normal about his scent at all. I need him to scent me.

His scent changes too much to put a pin on it. As the janitor in Tall Tales, he smelled like cleaner and possibly bleach. When he showed up in mystery spot, he smelled like greasy diner food. In changing channels, he smells sterile. Hammer of gods, he had to smell the best he could to try and get Kali back, wearing expensive cologne. In Montel Carlo, living lavishly and buried in his own lust, he smelled like a mix of his expensive cologne and sex. Then came the torture times where he smelled like charred flesh and pennies.

But throughout all of those scentful times.. there was one thing that stuck to him. No matter how strong the other scents were, it was always pure sugar. No matter if everyone found out that he wasn't a trickster. He still liked candy a little too much.

DONNA!!!! Okay so, Donna to me smells like mandarin orange massage oils. Because the first time we meet Donna is in a health spa. I still like to believe that after learning of supernatural stuff, she still goes to spas and massages often because she deserves it. And that's the oil she picks everytime.

And to me, if she's gonna use a perfume, she's gonna use something like jasmine.

I can't explain it. It just is. Adam smells like the ocean. And with Michael coinciding with Adam, there are warm undertones to that. Not warm like Castiel. Michael is an archangel. He's going to have way more grace than Castiel could ever dream of. So it's not a soft warm like Cas. It's almost searing hot. Almost.

And after escaping hell with Michael, he still has a slight ocean-y scent to him, but he also smells smokey as well. Spending a long LONG time in hell can make you smell like that.

AAI2 Manosouta x SH2 AU

I made a super self-indulgent Manosouta AU because they're extremely perfect for it and I'll never be over SH.

Basically this AAI2/SH2 AU plays out months after the endgame, Simeon is just getting used to life in prison but he definitely isn’t making personal progress processing his guilt over what he did to Bronco

-Because the prison they’re in is going through renovations, prisoners are arranged to a temporal transfer to a different prison, and said prison is a pretty suspicious place with claims of being haunted, although nobody really cares, and nothing noteworthy happens for the first few days.

-Simeon is nervous, because he realizes he’s being observed by a young prison guard that bears a striking resemblance to Bronco. And then, slowly, he starts to notice weird things about the prison.

-He leans to Kanis for support, but the old man warns him about not letting his senses be fooled by what’s around him. He can sense that something about the prison is very odd.

-The mysterious prison guard decides to make small-talk with Simeon, and he introduces himself as Horacio, and even his voice is oddly familiar. Simeon tries to avoid him, but by that time, strange walls and new stairs and rooms begin to appears through the prison, making him get lost easily and making him get punished for ‘trying to sneak away’ from authorized zones.

(Content Warning: blood, minor gore, body horror.)

-The following day Kanis tells him that Helmut is scared, which is why he refuses to leave his cell. For days, Simeon tries to stay inside the prison cell with Kanis as much as possible, and for a while, things appear to stay relatively normal.

-However, during the nights, Simeon can almost swear that he hears a wet breathing near their cell’s door.

-One day, however, the guards tell Simeon that he’s got a phone call from outside prison, which he hesitantly goes to respond. The caller is Edgeworth, who is trying to confirm if he’s been transferred… but the phone call gets abruptly cut off by weird gurgling noises.

-When an unsettled Simeon leaves the phone behind to return to his cell, he finds the hall completely transformed and desolated. He gets lost again, but just when he thinks he finds someone other than him, he realizes that it’s not even a person.

-Simeon finds himself running around a labyrinth where monsters that look like monkeys are hunting him for sport. Just when he’s about to get slashed down, however, he is saved at the last minute by Horacio, the prison guard.

-Horacio seems oddly calm, but he himself acknowledges that while prison has been weird for a while, this was the first time he’s seen monsters. Reluctantly, Simeon decides to tag along with Horacio for a way out. When talking to Horacio to fill in the silence, he begins to realize that personality-wise, he’s very different from Bronco.

-At first, Simeon is hesitant to depend on Horacio, finding his earnest nature a bit fake and jarring, but the longer they stay together, the more it unsettles him how much this Horacio wants to put himself in harm’s way just to keep Simeon safe.

-They manage to find a prison wing where the supernatural hasn’t touched the inmates, and when Simeon goes to find Kanis and Helmut, Horacio has already gone his own separate way. Seemingly, the other prison guards and inmates have been completely unaware of the shifting architecture of the prison and the presence of monsters.

-Simeon attempts to explain what he’s been through, but all Kanis has to say is the same as before with other words. Kanis very sternly tells him that something that lives in this prison has taken hold of him, and only Simeon himself can pry himself out of it now. He gives him one of his bells as a charm before going to bed.

-The following day, Simeon wakes in his cell all alone. Not a single soul seems to be in the building.

-In his search for a way out, Simeon begins to encounter more monsters, increasingly impossible structures and turns in the prison… and surprisingly, Horacio. “So... I told the warden about the monsters, but they didn’t believe me.” “OF COURSE THEY WOULDN’T, YOU IDIOT!”

-In their new partnership, Simeon can’t stop thinking about how Horacio is increasingly less gentle, and the gap between him and Bronco seems to be closing.

-He reaches a point in which being near Horacio just makes Simeon physically him ill, which makes Horacio upset. Some of Bronco’s mannerisms are beginning to mesh into Horacio, sometimes for the worse. The longer it goes on, the more it messes with Simeon’s sanity and all the ugly feelings he has about Bronco.

-Horacio is beginning to say out loud things that he shouldn’t be able to know about Simeon, and in a quiet moment of realization, Horacio looks bothered and unsettled, because he knows he shouldn’t know.

-In a heated moment between them, a horse-head monster attacks them, wounding Horacio lethally… and Simeon finds himself uselessly watching him cry and babble as he bleeds out.

-Simeon spends a long time watching the corpse of Horacio, sometimes wondering if he’s not seeing Bronco’s body instead. When he finally has the energy to leave him behind, his sanity reaches its lowest point.

-Simeon gets lost again, but through the bell that Kanis gave him, he brute-forces himself to fight back the monsters he encounters in the labyrinth.

-… Until he finally enters a new room, with a familiar person behind a cell, waiting for him.

And... that's all what I got so far. You could say it follows the same beats SH2 does to a T, I'm not going to pretend it doesn't. But I need to put these characters in situations, so it's okay!

I probably will drawa few more things related to this, in case anybody cares!

i’d love to know how much of early day's spn subtext was deliberate or just a happy accident bc the subplot of 1x08 bugs is sam and dean butting heads about how they were raised and sam hating it while dean tells him he should accept it as they protect a family; predominantly a father and son

the father and son argue bc the son is different and not who the father wants him to be while the son feels ignored and shunned (aka sam). sam spends the episode empathising with him and telling him he can look forward to going to college to get away from him just like he did while dean cuts in to say he should stick with his family

the entire episode, dean defends john and the way he raised them ("maybe he needed to raise his voice but sometimes you were out of line"), it even starts with him and sam arguing over their illegal ways of making money and how they were brought up in the life; dean adapting to and enjoying it and sam wanting to be honest and straight

they talk about sam being sure john is and always has been disappointed in him just for dean to say john used to go to stanford whenever he could to check on him and something about his expression is so bitter; like he knows john would never express that care for him

but at the climax when they're trying to get matt to convince his dad to leave, sam is the one telling him to tell the truth and make his dad listen whereas dean tells him to lie; implying he wouldn't trust his son enough to believe him

he outright scoffs at sam and asks him what he was thinking for trying to get matt to tell the truth

the entire episode, dean is advocating for the kid to work it out (almost to just take it) and stay with his family but when push comes to shove, he tells him to lie

sam who spent years resenting john and his family for how they were raised, fell back on "making him listen"; echoing all the arguments he had with john, trying to force him to understand who he is while john's too blinded by vengeance to even begin to try. the same way sam refuses to see how they were raised and why they were raised that way from john’s point of view, hinting at how similar people they are (which still isn’t an excuse but also not the point rn)

dean winchester, the king of repression and masking (and fawning), dean who at this point is still staunchly defending john, tells a shunned kid with a harsh father to pretend in order for his father to care enough to listen to him and believe him

dean knows reasoning won't work bc he's watched it happen over and over again with sam and john

even the way matt tries to say, “but he’s my… (father)” feels like he’s coming over to dean’s point of view; that matt as a son respects his father to enough to tell the truth and no matter how much they’ve fought, that should trump everything. but dean still insists he lies. and matt tells the truth. and his father doesn’t listen

there's no way they intentionally made dean subconsciously know that a man raising his son in a mimicry of how john raised them wouldn't respect or trust his son enough to believe him about something potentially life threatening after half a season of john ignoring them about something potentially life threatening

right?

considering both trevor and soma are survivors together in dbd, what do you think trevors opinions on him are? this random teenager from the future who is apparently a reincarnation of dracula would probably be very startling for him

I've been asked several times about what I think the Belmonts' opinions are of Soma. And after a while, I think they wouldn't always jump to conclusions about ("like a baddy" = "baddy") as easily as some people seem to believe. Wary maybe, but I don't think Trevor would immediately go for the neck just because Soma is part Dracula or anything. And who knows what Trevor's first impression of Alucard-- the show does not count to me as a source of reference-- but after their battle, the two would become close friends.

Additionally, Julius expressed some disbelief while also understanding his bloodline's role to stopping Dracula when he found out about Soma's "true" identity.

Maybe if Trevor comes to learn about Soma's powers and ties, he may hear him out. I think it mainly depends on how exactly the two meet, like if Trevor were to see him first as Soma, if that makes sense.

the thing is that like i genuinely am not in this because i am truly expecting buddie canon. at this point i do think its a genuine possibility (and also very possible that they won't do it) but if everything was almost exactly the same but i didnt think they would ever commit to it i would still be having a great time because i am here to be baited! im not disappointed when nothing happens because thats the baseline expectation BUT i love the thrill of them having insane moments together. ive seen so many people say shit like "i never watched 911 because i thought it was just bait but wait this is actually something..." meanwhile - and i think i have posts from when i started the show saying this lmao - i was never interested because i assumed it was shoving the two lead guys together just because and then i watched it and was like "oh this is bait bait. i'm locked in." whether they go canon or not theyre doing it good old-fashioned queerbait style and i'm having a ball you know.

SPN POSTCANON UPDATE: Dean sighted in Roanoke VA, then soon after in Argentina

Seems alive(?), healthy and in one piece, but under a lot of stress. Has lost some weight and powers aren't working too well from what I can see. Hanging out w a pooka that's PROBABLY Baby, but with shapeshifters who even knows.

Dean is working with YET ANOTHER DUDE WHO SEEMS TO BE HIS BROTHER. Pretty clear that if they do share a parent, it's John. Their dynamic is good, a lot like Dean and Sam except this guy is NOTHING like Sam, honestly he's pretty feral. Huge guy easily meeting "giant" height, seems to prefer range combat but can hold his own in melee as well. Calls himself a hunter or tracker of some kind, mostly goes after human targets. Understands a little of what's going on w the Fae/Rome/etc but doesn't get the full picture. He's curious and eager to fuck around and find out

Physically he resembles John a LOT, and could easily be his kid- but also bears resemblance to Balor. w the whole Vessel situation going on rn its unclear who this guy's "father" actually is besides the fact that he's a piece of work. Also of note, this guy is confirmed to have a nonhuman lineage, unclear on which side. Features include giant stature/build, enhanced senses, expert/preternatural marksmanship, the usual super strength(?), animalistic/survival mindset as baseline, and hair seems more like fur, possibly seal fur. Doesn't seem to have any connection to the possible-Selkie girl in Maine.

...all in all, Balor is looking like a more likely candidate for this guy's dad, which would explain why he and Dean currently have this sibling relationship due to (THE BOYS S4 SPOILERS). Also still some chance of a Fomoire/Fae/Fuath/Campbell family connection that I haven't noticed.

Dean is tied up in more Roman nonsense and appears to have ended up owing a blood debt (in his own blood) to some late Roman military-cult god I've vaguely heard of bc he killed said god's brother. Lots of modern folk magic/esoterica, severed limbs and possibly at least one demon deal. Given the location and the events set to unfold this summer, can't rule out Croatoan fuckery going on here as well. Dean also had a new Magic Knife(tm), bone handled with a steel, iron or possibly silver blade. gave it to this new guy, probably for protection.

I'll look into if Balor had any children in the mythos (current/recent Antichrist Situation notwithstanding).

Not sure why Dean is headed south, not sure I want to know. If he weren't the type to run directly INTO danger every time, I'd say he was trying to get out ahead of the absolute shitstorm hitting the Northeast US coast in a month. I rly hope he's not planning on picking a fight w that Brazilian pantheon over what happened w Sam... its not their fault and if anything someone should warn them. Wars between seasonal deities WILL spread just as climate change does, and if one of them was already dragged into it, that whole mythos is at risk. ...Hopefully Dean is there to warn them, not. stab them.

She seems to have given up trying to escape Death and now WORKS for Death, namely corralling the souls of children who don't want to go to the afterlife... or... something vaguely like that idk. She likes her job, or at least likes continuing to exist while doing something in her vague field of interest. However she DOES appear to be sniffing around near all that recent activity w Azazel's return, I hope she stays safe or just finds somewhere else to hang out. Of relevance re: Rowena's current activities are:

-two VERY talented ghosts who help other ghosts pass on and hunt the occasional monster, they are amazingly skilled and there's a lot to learn from those two.

-Tom Tildrum, or possibly Tim Toldrum, idfk its one of the cats to go by the title "The King Of Cats". I think he's Cat-sith on at least one side (Faerie/Sidhe cat) and may be in charge of them.

-Jenny Greenteeth, who may have Fomoire heritage and may ALSO be Balor's relative/child. She seems nice, if in over her head. Not sure she remembers what she is.

also if only the physical copy of how to disappear completely & never be found i first encountered & read a few years ago (sort of [roughly avg age ten] reader book, not any similarly titled How To) hadn't disappeared completely & not been found since, probably b/c i put it somewhere i intended to be For Safekeeping, which is also how my binder vanished....b/c it's one of those like. those book for late elementary/middle school readers when they just weave in this unrealism which makes for a delightful range & unpredicability? and with a cynical protagonist girl like off to the races like wow her mom is depressed asf & smoking? and it's about A Family History Secrets Mystery so blatantly a haunting that the inciting incident is basically introducing a haunted [family history secrets mystery] house. and spoilers don't matter like it's stemming from there being this missing uncle who grew up so in contrast to the Winsome Winning Sibling Who Does It All Right while seeing his own affiliation with rats that he tried to disappear completely & never be found which led to this Tragedy which led to this more unintended disappearance of his & he haunts this house & wants to be left alone & only goes out at night with this [ambiguous Is That A Giant Rat Or Weird Small Dog (protagonist affected by these family situations who expresses her preoccupation with an awareness of how fate can Strike and Get you with this interest with roving packs of killer chihuahuas. people think she's weird though she spontaneously befriends this other girl struck with this bolt from the blue & a bit weird / outcast & then Insightful who i wish was in it more)] & plays into the hauntedness danger like playing into the [something's Wrong with you then] until having to take yet more action where the urge to express the truth comes out more both b/c living that hidden is more threatened but also b/c now the niece children are more threatened as well. ft. a sort of preternatural blurring of time b/c of only being communicated with through this uncle via his comic pages (that he paints?) of dubiously accurate translations of irl events that are created so quickly it seems to verge on foresight, imagine like "hmm what's this painting. it's me standing in this room looking at this painting??? as someone ominous lurks in the shadows right behind me?" in both [now how could you know this & paint it really fast ahead of time] and [horror]

ok but can we talk about how fucking batshit it is that betty saw a vision of her wife who is currently going crazy being like "im 1000 years in the future but i just wanted to say sorry byee" which lasted all of like 30 seconds and within those 30 seconds she decided to throw her entire life away and jump through the portal into the distant future just to be with him. YOU HAVE ISSUES.
