i'm also very annoyed about how the symbolism of cassian's character was handled throughout this season. in rogue one and going into season two, the great tragedy of cassian was that he was no one at all -- destined to go unremembered and never live to see the world he gave everything to create. he had been through hell and back not because it had to be that way but because he was brave enough to choose hell in hopes that it might make a better tomorrow. and then he was wiped off the map and the men who destroyed the death star using the plans he stole never knew his name.

according to andor season two, though, cassian was always meant to be on scarif because he's a "messenger." he has lampshaded plot armor until he can die the way he was born to die, because it was always his destiny to make sure those plans made it off that base. also, he is survived by his partner and a child he never knew about, solidifying his legacy. this... is silly. it is beyond noble for cassian to make the willing choice to be forgotten in service of a greater cause. i'm much less compelled if the story is about cassian unintentionally being dragged to his death by fate and then getting remembered as a hero.

Ideas for Season 2 I Would've Liked to See/Explored More:

Ambessa explicitly acting as a motherly figure to manipulate Cait, who's grieving a mother. Especially since Cait had a complicated relationship with her mom, centered around Cassandra being overly protective/unsupportive of her choices, with Ambessa being everything her mom wasn't.

Jinx and her relationship with Zaun. In s1, she doesn't have much of one due to isolation (encouraged by Silco as well as self-imposed), other than the fear and discomfort she inspires. She doesn't have to become a revolutionary (although its odd that there was so much marketing and set-up for it), but at least explore that. People who love her, people who blame her for Piltover's retaliation, people who are unsure. This could also be a great chance to establish more about in-universe Jinx and Ekko, since Ekko's character is very centered around the people of Zaun.

Vi as a person. Having a chance to explore who she is outside of being a sister-mother and a prisoner. Struggling with making choices for herself as someone either completely robbed of them (as a prisoner) or who couldn't afford to make selfish choices (as a caregiver). Exploring her immense untouched trauma, as well as her relationship to Zaun. Her guilt as an enforcer possibly causing her to double-down in support of the revolution, maybe by joining the Firelights and supporting Ekko.

In a similar vein, Jinx as a person. She's established as a character that latches onto one person (her main caregiver) and has a tendency to absorb parts of that person (morals, behaviors, etc). I would've loved to see her without a main person, possibly as a parallel to Vi. Vi discovers who she is without someone to protect while Jinx discovers who she is without someone protecting her.

Cait and Jayce's relationship. It was completely thrown to the wayside. Overall, s2 tended to sideline platonic and familial relationships for romantic ones.

Ekko as a person outside of his relationships to other characters. We know like? Nothing about him and his time during the time skip in s1. Does he like being a leader? Does he not know how to define himself outside of being one? Does he resent being forced into the role and having to grow up way too fast? A combination of all of the above? How long has he been the leader? Was it him alone that established the Firelights, or were there originally older rebels that passed long ago, leaving only him? Like please, let him be a character. I know people joke about him being perfect and universally unproblematic, but a lot of that is because they don't give him enough screen time or any realistic flaws or let him organically develop beyond being a plot device.

Jinx and Ekko's relationship. This doesn't have to be romantic, just them and their in-universe dynamic please. At the end of s1, we had this big moment where Ekko, who had been coping with it by insisting Powder was dead, realizes that Jinx is just grown-up Powder, and that he can't kill her. s2 then does nothing with this, fobbing him off into an alternate universe with an alternate Powder. I would've loved to see Jinx and Ekko struggling to work together, getting to know each other in a capacity other than enemies. Ekko emulating Vander's 'we don't give up our own people' and protecting Jinx from Piltover despite his better judgement.

Y'know what? Ekko and Sevika. Both two people desperately fighting for Zaun, in two wildly different ways. I would've loved to see them interact. They probably would've gotten into a fist fight, but just imagine the Ekko-Sevika-Jinx power trio heading the revolution.

The Wolf vs the Fox. Mel as a formidable politician, working in the shadows to undermine her mother. Her putting everything she's learned in Piltover to use, weaponizing the lessons learned from her banishment. If they were so desperate to include the Black Rose plotline, they could maybe have Mel becoming obsessed with protecting Piltover from her mother and going so far as to ally with her brother's killers.

Sibling relationships are the first and often the most enduring bonds we form in life. They shape our identities, define our roles in the family, and teach us how to love, fight, forgive, and grow alongside another person.

For writers, capturing the intricacies of sibling dynamics can infuse stories with authenticity, depth, and emotional resonance that keeps readers turning pages. Here are some tips for how to write healthy sibling relationships:

Make them unique characters

Establish each sibling’s unique personality and role.

Give each sibling their own distinct personality, interests, strengths, and flaws.

Show how their personalities complement and contrast with each other.

Establish the roles and dynamics between the siblings (leader, peacemaker, rebel, etc.).

Avoid stereotypes and allow the siblings’ personalities to evolve over time.

Develop each sibling’s unique voice and communication style.

Give them contrasting but complementary skills and strengths.

Develop their relationship over time

Show how the siblings’ relationship strengthens as they grow up and go through life changes. Maybe they grow apart for a while but then reconnect later in life.

Give their relationship a story arc, showing how their bond matures and changes over the course of the story.

Explore how the siblings navigate major life events together, like the birth of a new sibling, a family move, losing a loved one, or a parent’s divorce.

Depict milestones and rites of passage where the siblings support or challenge each other, like learning to drive, graduating high school, starting college or a career.

Show how the siblings’ communication and conflict resolution skills improve (or deteriorate) over time. Perhaps they learn to express their feelings more openly, fight more fairly, or establish healthier boundaries as they mature.

Gabriel's Rebellion

Gabriel's Rebellion (30 August 1800) was a carefully planned slave revolt in Virginia orchestrated by the literate slave blacksmith Gabriel (l. c. 1776-1800), property of one Thomas Prosser, and so referred to as Gabriel Prosser. The plans for the revolt were betrayed before it could be set in motion, and Gabriel and his supporters were hanged.

Gabriel's Rebellion terrified the White population because the plans laid were so extensive – with a goal of nothing less than the freedom of all enslaved Black people in slave-holding states, starting with Virginia – and the deaths of all White people who opposed liberation and supported slavery. The plan was to take the arsenal at Richmond, Virginia, equip an army of slaves, take Governor James Monroe (l. 1758-1831) hostage (the same James Monroe who would later become the fifth president of the United States), and work outwards from the city to emancipate all enslaved people.

Had he not been betrayed, historians speculate, Gabriel's plan could have worked, and it is this aspect of the revolt that caused Whites the greatest fear in that, if something like this could happen once, it might again, and, in fact, it did in 1822 when another literate slave, Denmark Vesey (l. c. 1767-1822), made the same attempt in South Carolina.

Although a slave, Gabriel was hired out as a skilled blacksmith to others and traveled widely in the region, so he was able to personally make contact with co-conspirators in planning the revolt, which was set for 30 August 1800. A heavy rainstorm stalled the uprising, however, giving some of the participants a chance to rethink their position, and two slaves, Pharaoh and Tom, belonging to Prosser's neighbor, Mosby Sheppard, told their master about the revolt. Sheppard then sent a letter to James Monroe, and the alarm was raised.

The planned revolt may have inspired later insurrections, including Denmark Vesey's conspiracy and Nat Turner's Rebellion (1831). Prior to Gabriel's Rebellion, the last major slave uprising was the Stono Rebellion (1739) in what was then the British colony of South Carolina. Gabriel's Rebellion seems to have been more carefully planned than the Stono Rebellion, and, once discovered, it resulted in the same kinds of harsh slave laws in Virginia in 1800 as South Carolina enacted after the Stono Rebellion of 1739.

In 2002, Richmond, Virginia, celebrated Gabriel as a freedom fighter through a resolution commemorating his execution, and, in 2007, the governor of Virginia pardoned Gabriel and the 25 others who were convicted and executed with him.

Background & Gabriel Prosser

The revolt was inspired by the American Revolution (1765-1789), the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), the French Revolution (1789-1799), and the Haitian Revolution (1791-1804), and of these, the American Revolution seems to have had the greatest influence, as noted by scholar Douglas R. Egerton:

The very real possibility of liberty, absent before 1775, combined with the incessant white rhetoric of liberty and equality, emboldened the slaves and gave them hope. However much white revolutionaries might try to limit the implications of their words, the significance of 1776 was not lost on black Virginians.

Scholar Stephen B. Oates agrees, writing:

The leaders were chiefly skilled urban slaves who had become highly politicized by the rhetoric of the American and French revolutions – by the enlighted ideal that all men were born equal, that all enjoyed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and had a natural right to rebel when those rights were denied. So stated America's cherished Declaration of Independence, yet somehow its noble principles applied only to white people.

South Carolina had enacted harsher slave laws following the Stono Rebellion of 1739, but Virginia, which also had a large enslaved Black population, had not followed suit. In fact, there was a large free Black community in Virginia c. 1800 due to the efforts of abolitionist evangelicals during the Great Awakening, refugees from the Haitian Revolution, and the work of the Methodists and Quakers, who encouraged abolition. Free men and those slaves who were skilled artisans traveled through Virginia without restrictions, and there was nothing alarming about a slave, like Gabriel, traveling on his own from place to place. Egerton writes:

The conspiracy cannot be divorced from the world of Richmond in the years following the American Revolution. The leading conspirators were slaves, to be sure, but they were slaves who lived and labored in an urban culture that was unusual if not nearly unique in the South. Richmond at the turn of the century had just under six thousand residents. Half of the population was black and about one-fifth of the blacks were free. And, as inhabitants of Virginia, a state with a free black population that was growing rapidly because of manumission and economic change, the border South conspirators dreamed realistic dreams of freedom.

At the heart of the web the conspirators were spinning stood Prosser's Gabriel. Then in his twenty-fourth year, Gabriel was a natural leader, a highly skilled blacksmith who could both "read and write." At six feet odd, Gabriel towered over most men, and he was not afraid to use his strength; in the fall of 1799, he had been convicted of "biting off a considerable part of the left ear" of a white neighbor. As a potential revolutionary, Gabriel had much to lose, for he had recently married. But his emerging plan was based upon careful calculation, and there is absolutely no truth to the popular myth that the short-haired slave was an irrational, messianic figure who wore his locks long in imitation of Samson. As far as the extant evidence indicates, freedom was his only religion.

The White man Gabriel attacked was one Absalom Johnson who caught him, his brother Solomon, and another slave named Jupiter trying to steal one of his hogs. Gabriel defended the other two men and, in the ensuing struggle, bit off Johnson's ear. For assaulting a White man, Gabriel could have been hanged, but because he was an asset of Thomas Prosser, he was given a lesser sentence of a month in jail and a branded thumb, but he did not even serve that time as Prosser paid for his release.

It is unclear how or when Gabriel learned to read and write, but it is possible that his father, also a blacksmith, was literate and had taught his sons. Gabriel's family were all enslaved at Prosser's Brookfield plantation in Henrico County, Virginia, and, when there, Gabriel worked with his brothers Solomon and Martin, but, often, he was away from Brookfield on what today would be known as "freelance work" smithing for other plantations and businesses. Although most of what he earned had to be turned over to Thomas Prosser, he was allowed to keep some for himself, part of which likely went to funding the revolt.

Ok so I’ve been back in my brain-rot and I can’t stop thinking about marauders criminal mind au where the lions and snakes are two different teams that work together from time to time.

Enjoy my ramblings as I can’t sleep and don’t have the willpower to plot this thing out right now I might write a ff about this after I got some sleep

The lions are like the main team:

James is team leader he is like the only one without childhood trauma he just wants to do good. He was always agent and worked organised crime before he stayed at the bau. His specialty that, hostage negotiations, spree killers and group dynamics

Sirius - the black family is still bad but not that bad (at first I was thinking mafia but I don’t think that really fits with what I pictured). So the idea is very strict military family with traditional values and an abusive approach. Sirius does not want that he rebels runs away at 16 lives ok with his uncles support finishes school and starts at quantico the same time James does. They become friends and keep in touch. He start working sex crimes. James brings him into the bau after some years. His specialty is victimology and sexual based offenders.

Remus- worked as a cop before becoming a profiler. Is their communication specialist and does anything press related. Has the task of “choosing” the cases (like Jj). Has a chronic illness (his worsening and diagnosis lead to the job change) that limits his mobility and does most of his work in the precincts. Is also the one that speaks to most of the family members. His father died in a home invasion (the reason he became a cop to catch people like grayIForgotTheRestOfHisName) his mom raised him as a struggling single mother and supports him through all his decisions.

Peter- tech specialist. He is VERY good at what he does. Is a white hat (never hacked for himself or anyone else than the good guys). Has a degree in computer sciences. Taught himself most of his skills as a teen cause he got bored and was discovered early the state payed for his degree. He travels with the team a lot and works with his mobile rig unless its very tech heavy cases where he needs to be near the severs or it’s in the middle of nowhere and the connection would be to bad. His parents where killed when he was a teen & computers where his save space.

Lily - was a lawyer before the bau (a prosecutor like hotch) her specialty is geographic profiles, comfort zones and crimes involving children but she is also very good at everything else. Her parents where very harsch on her, she only has partial contact and is trying to fix her relationship with her sister who is the “perfect poster child” and became a doctor.

Marlene - is the Teams linguist. She speaks a lot of different languages and profiles all the messages left by unsubs. She is also very good at reading body language and figuring out if someone is lying. Her parents are diplomats so she moved a lot as a kid and had a hart time making friends.

Mary- has a law degree but never practiced she decided she wanted to be an fbi agent instead. Her specialty is phycology and signatures. She spends a lot of time Time to get into a killers head and compensates by keeping in contact with survivors and organising ways for them to support eachother.

Now the snakes are more like a red team (they also all speak multiple languages):

Regulus - is team leader. Did not get away form his family like Sirius did. He joined the military the first possibility he got (17 I think is the soonest you can join don’t quote me on that I am not American) he met Evan there and had his first real friend. He became a military cop and after a few years policing soldiers reconnected with his brother. Sirius inspired him to become a profiler as well. He is very good at it and ambitious so he got promoted fast and was offered his own team that he could hand pick (he is also one of the youngest team leaders there is)

Evan - also comes from a military family. The abuse in his family is more phycological than the black family. He bonded with regulus is basic and the kept in touch. Because of a phyc eval and other reasons he became a sniper. The military also payed for his med school and he was planing to become a coroner after. Regulus recuted him for his team instead and he took some curses in profiling. His specialty is victimology and body language. He is very good at interrogation by phycing the person out and being very unhinged. He is the least freaked out by violent crimes scenes but very compassionate even if he doesn’t show it.

Pandora- is Evans twin in this (because she always is in my AUs). Evan has protected and shielded her as good as he could as a child. She rebelnd and didn’t go to the military. Worked 2 jobs so she could pay for collage after being cut of. Is a computer and tech (software and hardware) Spezialist. Did some environmental hacking before joining the team but was never official caught or charged. Regulus chose her without knowing the connection to Evan and they laughed their ass of about it afterwards, he basically stole her from another team by offering her more field work and freedom about how she wants to handle things.

Barty- Senior is still a politician who wanted him to follow in his footsteps. Barty didn’t want to. His dad was really abusive to both him and his mom. He tried to get her out of it but she doesn’t want to so he cut contact to both (but still sends her money in hopes she may get the strength to get herself out). He decided to become an agent to help kids like him and women in similar situations that wanted help. He has a big problem with authority where he will speak his mind even if it hurts your feelings. That quality got him ridden up a lot but is also why reg chose him, he likes that he tells him what he is thinking without all the social bullsh*t. Barty has an eidetic memory and perfect recall he is basically a specialist in everything but especially good in thinking like the unsub.

Dorcas- has a history in going over her superiors heads without asking because they where sexist idiots and the work needed to be done. She has a degree in phycology and is the one that interviews most of the family’s and surviving victims. Before joining the team she was interviewing offenders because they didn’t want her anymore at the anti terror devision.

Ships because it’s maunders and there is always ships:

Wolfstar- they go through a painful slowburn and finally confess after Remus ends up in the hospital with a flare up. Just after they get together Sirius gets seriously (hehe) hurt and we get more angst. After that they fast track their relationship move in after ca. 3/4 months married after a year.

James/lily/regulus - lily is the only one who has figured out being poly before we begin she is interested in both but concerned about dating her boss. Regulus and her go on a few dates until he confesses he might also be interested in James. They bond over it and make a plan to get James to consider. They find a way around the whole boss thing by lily becoming a supervisory special agent and technically being in the same level as both her boys. They plan a lot before starting their family and take turns staying home with Harry after he is born combined with really good child care services (they have the money and James parents)

Lily/Marlene - they date separate (like poly people do). There is a little bit of a hierarchy but it is communicated properly and not that big. Harry just takes priority. They stated dating after Harry’s birth.

Mary/original nb character- her partner is an emt they meet at the job. Later they are involved in a case where emergency responders are targeted. They exchange numbers and start dating but decide to take it slow. No angst here they are a perfect pair and live their truth as lesbians (the nb character identities as an nonbinary lesbian cause I say so)

Peter/NASA Person (haven’t desided on the gender jet) - they are neighbours and keep running into eachother cause they both keep weird hours. They go on cute Coffee dates and nerd together.

Rosekiller- they have a will they won’t they thing and finally kiss is a life threatening situation just to decide to not speak about it afterward. Their team is shortly before staging an intervention when they finally get their sh*t together but tell no one except for Pandora (cause she knows everything). When it comes up on a case that they are dating money changes hands.

Pandora/xeno (Genderfluid)- they are a wild life specialist that she met through a university friend. They are dating the whole time and everything is fine. Luna is a nice surprise especially cause she is born in the same year Harry is. Xeno does a lot of work from home anyways so she stays there most of the time. There is also grandparents and the potters if he is away in some jungle.

Dorcas/original female character - she is dating a lawyer. They met over a case that the gf is prosecuting. There is some drama from time to time but nothing they can’t fix.

Side characters:

Frank and Alice- lilys childhood friends. Sometimes babysit Harry. Frank is a banker, Alice a baker.

Black cousins- andy is a social worker amd married to teacher Ted, Bella is a high ranking officer in the military, Narcissa is a pharmacist and divorced from Lucius, they are still friends they just didn’t work out it was a kind of arranged marriage and they got the best thing of their life’s out of it Draco.

Emilia bones- is a reporter. One of the good ones that does investigative work and doesn’t harass victims.

Dubeldore is a corrupt superior

mcgonagall -is the best boss ever and becomes director

Tom riddle is a cult leader- snakes do some undercover work.

Mad eye moody- is an unsub that nearly kills Evan barty has a crisis over it and nearly goes rouge

Lockhart- is a serial la offender who charms his victims a d drugs them with rohypnoll

Hagrit- is their door man/ security officer at the main building.

Let's talk about how Iran is fucked.

After 40 years of hard work, Iran managed to create a "ring of fire" around Israel and Saudi Arabia. It was a remarkably cheap way to terrorize Iran's enemies without facing direct consequences. One of the reasons Iran chose this strategy is because in reality Iran is a poor and weak country. This was a way to project power without actually having it. 

Now, Iran met real power and 40 years of hard work went down the drain in a few months. Seeing how Iran only got weaker and poorer in the last couple of decades, it won't be easy to restore what it’d lost. 

So, what happened?

Gaza: After October 7, Israel really went to town on Gaza. The enclave was razed and suffered immense casualties. The majority of Hamas's trained men and nearly all their field commanders were killed. Their missile stores have been decimated. Now, the majority of Palestinians no longer support the group. They may start supporting a new bunch of terrorists soon, but it's doubtful these will be Iran's allies seeing what a poor ally Iran has been to the Palestinians this year.

Lebanon: Israel decapitated Hezbollah by destroying its entire command structure, castrated it by dismantling its missile and drone arsenal and killing thousands of its trained men, and hobbled it by signing a strange ceasefire deal that allows Israel to bomb Hezbollah but not the other way around. Evidence of the group's wretched state can be seen in it accepting this humiliating ceasefire (and abandoning Gaza), not responding to constant Israeli attacks after the ceasefire, and its total inability to aid Assad.

Syria: The collapse of the Assad regime brought fourth a plethora of diverse groups who only have one thing in common. They hate Iran. They are so busy stomping portraits of Khamenei they don't even have time to burn Israeli flags. Syria was a vital link in Iran's land bridge to Lebanon. Without Iran, it won't be able to resupply Hezbollah, which is at the lowest point in its history right now.

Iraq: Iran’s favorability rating among Iraqis has hit its lowest point in recent years, falling even below the popular support for the United States. Iran's feeble assistance to its allies is likely to bring this number even lower. Iran has shown itself to be an exploiter rather than a friend, and so it's likely to start losing friends in Iraq as well. As the Arab Spring has shown us, no Arab state is isolated, which brings us to our final station:

Yemen: The Houthis are still attacking ships in the Red Sea and have shown no signs of disloyalty to Iran. However, there are some signs that the success of the rebels in Syria will inspire Yemen's internationally recognized government to renew its war against the Houthi usurpers (people tend to forget Yemen is fighting a civil war as well). If the general drop of support for Iran in the Arab world is reflected in Yemen as well, then the Houthis have an uphill battle ahead of them.

Iran: Weakness invites aggression and the regime looks weaker than ever right now. Its leader is old and feeble. Its failures and defeats are mounting. Life is getting worse for ordinary Iranians. Tick tock.

I was thinking... (spoilers, spoilers everywhere)

the writing decision of focusing so much on the fact that Aegon's parts were burnt root and stem is probably related to the future alliance with the Baratheons, right?

If they don't change it (lmao), almost at the end of the Dance Alicent comes up with a marriage pact, this time with Aegon instead of Aemond, and Boros's daughter. But with Aegon's inability to produce heirs, how will that work now? Will this alliance still hold?

Oh well, they'll probably use it as an excuse to justify Boros betraying the Greens. Because nope, if TB is betrayed, the Greens must also have at least one betrayal to make up for the huge difference of loyalties :)

In terms of important Houses I can't remember any house betraying the Greens (Great Houses, not others like House Peake or Fossoway). I consider quite curious how, in terms of Black side, House Arryn and House Stark took their sweet time to help them. These two Houses pulled a Late Lord Frey, way before Walder frey was even born lmao

And it's not even secret that Rhaenyra's mother was an Arryn, everybody knew House Arryn would side with the Blacks anyway, the realm knew House Arryn would be a rebel House and still, Jeyne Arryn is shown as very cautious, letting Rhaenyra fend for herself instead of helping her. (Can't blame her though, she was probably the only actually smart woman in this show who wasn't butchered by plot in order to prop Rhaenyra up)

And I won't even mention the Starks. With the reddit leaks I'm very, VEEEERY curious to see the reason behind this late help. Everything depends on whose version will prevail, Condal's or Hess's.

If we take these two houses into account, we have: Strong, Stark, Velaryon, Arryn (and maybe Blackwoods?) betraying the Blacks for their own purposes, not to mention Rosby who made very clear Rhaenyra's hypocrisy, but I doubt they mention anything about this House, right? :D

And when it comes to the Greens... only the Tullys and the Brackens (but as far as we know, their leader was burned by Daemon for refusing to bend the knee, so maaaaaybe they won't even remember them in S3?).

5 (maybe 6) vs 1 (maybe 2), woah, quite a difference in loyalties, even more considering how the Green side has always been the one with less support and dragons.

The thing is: iirc, the allies that betrayed the Greens weren't motivated by distrust in them, or the crown's misdeeds against them (like what happened with Arryn, Stark and Velaryons in TB). It was due to circunstances and manipulation tactics, otherwise, they would have stayed loyal to the greens.

Team Black NATURALLY doesn't inspire loyalty.

So they thought "how can we balance things and make the Blacks look like they inspire more loyalty than the greens???? Oh! How about find a way to shake the Green alliance with Boros Baratheon? Between a Green eunuch with a crown and Rhaenyra's two boys, Boros has more chances of power with her than with Aegon.

Condal, Hess, you can't fool us. We can predict all your moves.

Such a shame though, because by the looks of things it won't even be someone from TG who is going to kill her (if that ever happens in this fanfic of theirs), is most likely someone from TB itself because they simply have no enemies anymore.

Which is far worse PR move for a team who loves to boast about "how Aegon was poisoned by his own allies" :) Hackondal and Mess are stuck with this ending, unlessss they bring back Sunfyre and follow the book. But Rhaenyra, killed by a TG? Naah, it wouldn't be tragic girlboss enough for her. I place my bets on TB.

How the Rebel Alliance Wins

Most beings have an innate desire for safety and material security. They may object to one policy or another, but the overall governance and rule of law brings a stability that they can work with in their daily lives.

However, what happens when that stability breaks down? What happens when authority and power are openly abused? It is not enough to keep our heads down and wait out each brief spot of turmoil. And it is not enough to make grand speeches in the halls of power that can be easily ignored or dismissed. At some point, communal bonds matter. At some point, material and emotional needs matter.

In the face of the Galactic Empire’s tyranny, the Alliance to Restore the Republic is more than an armed resistance movement. It is a support network for safe worlds across the galaxy and a haven for those fleeing injustice. It is a challenger to the propaganda on the HoloNet, speaking truth to power and showing up to help the locals whenever stormtroopers and Star Destroyers are sent in to “restore order.”

Mon Mothma provides political leadership and financial support. Bail Organa oversees logistics and intelligence operations. Ahsoka Tano and other Fulcrum agents build a network of resistance cells, recruiting locals to be informants and allies. Meanwhile, the Partisans led by Saw Gerrera provoke the Empire at every turn, attacking key factories and bases, attempting to sabotage the construction of a superweapon, and assassinating leaders like Moff Quarsh Panaka.

But the work of Mothma, Organa, and Tano eventually leads to victory at Scarif and Yavin, to the destruction of the Death Star and the first real challenge against the Empire’s claim to dominance. Striking a blow the way Gerrera does is short-lived and fails to shake up the Imperial hierarchy, even if such attacks are swift and merciless.

The work of Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker, however, is far more effective. They go to the heart of the Empire’s operations.

Leia Organa persists and organizes her allies at Tatooine, Hoth, Bespin, and Endor. Luke Skywalker delivers the shot that takes out the Death Star and goes to confront both the Emperor and Darth Vader, keeping them from marshaling their forces against the Rebel Alliance. He even succeeds in redeeming Vader—formerly his father Anakin Skywalker—who overthrows Palpatine at the cost of his own life.

The victory of the Rebel Alliance is not in the destruction of Imperial troops and starships, but in the mobilization of people and planets against further acts of oppression.

It is the posthumous speech given by Maarva Andor on Ferrix that inspires mass opposition. It is the dedication of the Rogue One team to go to Scarif and find the Death Star plans against all odds. It is the rallying of the native Ewoks, who aid in bringing down the shield generator protecting the second Death Star at the Battle of Endor. Years later, it is the sacrifice of Luke Skywalker on Crait, presenting himself in a one-on-one challenge to Kylo Ren and the First Order—not only to give the Resistance survivors time to escape and rebuild, but to bring hope back to the galaxy and protect the legacy of the Jedi.

Some Transformers Prerendformers AU Backstory Ideas

Autobots

The Autobots as a whole started as those who followed Optimus Prime once more open resistance against the treatment of the lower castes and Sentinel Prime's increasing acts of cruelty. Eventually many smaller groups would also come to follow the Autobot banner and once rescued from the Gladiator Pits of Kaon, Megatron would serve as co-leader since many that first joined Prime were Megatron's fellow miners and the newly arisen Prime even once saying he'd learn to inspire from how Megatron inspired him. After Sentinel's defeat and Megatron's fall the label Autobot remained only for those that chose not to follow Megatron.

Decepticons

Born from Megatron's galaxy wide famous speech titled "You Are Being Decieved" given after the first liberation of Tarn and before his capture and imprisonment in Kaon's Gladiator Pits it became the name and symbol of Megatron's most loyal supporters. At first just an in group under the greater Autobot movement composed of those directly reporting to Megatron after his rescue, it became harsher and more combative against others as friction between Optimus and Megatron began to become more frequent. Eventually when the breaking port was reached Megatron would declare the name Decpticon as the moniker of those who would truly reclaim the glory of the Cybertronian race in this galaxy.

Optimus Prime

Obviously still starts with the name Orion Pax. Cold Constructed shortly after Sentinel Prime coming to power Orion was part of what was called the Convoy batch of sparks all designated for tasks such as long haul transport of materials, those that remember him as Orion would find it ironic that in his human disguise when trapped on Earth so long after he decided to do the same work, as Sentinel was kicking production and mining into high gear with eyes on expansion. Naturally friendly and possessing a warmth that put off many of his overseers as "too alive" Orion would manage to make friends all across Cybertron with mechs Cild Constructed and forged alike. Some chief among those being the miner Megatron, illegally operating doctor Ratchet, and Iacon guard captain Ironhide.

It was the friendship with Ironhide and Ratchet that saved Orion's life as they got word about Sentinel having created a drone fleet to "phase out" the convoy as turned out their frequent interactions with other Cybertronians, and many such as Pax himself helping distribute the writings of one Megatron, was proving too have them become empathetic to the plight of the lower castes. Orion would flee into the still not expanded into wastes of Cybertron later learning that only two other of his batch mates survive. Those two becoming leaders of small resistance cells, Pyra Magna with her Rust Renegades and Ginrai with his Burning Justice, that would later fold into the greater Autobot cause. The three surviving Convoy would also, despite disagreements, would come to view themselves as true siblings.

While traveling the wastes; Orion's goal was to make it to Tarn where news of Megatron leading a revolt had spread hoping to link up with his old friend. Instead he was pulled by a sudden need to drive elsewhwre. He found himself finding some lost temple from Cybertron's past which inside contained the missing Matrix of Leadership. It joined with and transformed him the mech known as Orion Pax leaving that temple now as Optimus Prime. Finally arriving in Tarn Optimus would find many scattered and scarred rebels worried they'd be next since Megatron had been captured and sent to the Gladiator Pits of Kaon. Gathering these lost and in danger mechs Optimus swore he'd help them and find a way to save Megatron because "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."

Megatron

Cold Constructed for mining near the tail end of Nova Prime's reign Megatron of Tarn was one of the few miners that actually survived until Sentinel Prime took over. During Nova Prime's time things were much more lax about what materials ended up in the workers hands since Nova believed the Comd Constructed were hardly above drones access to reading or viewable materials did no harm as they were unintelligent and naturalky docule. So that means by the time the transition began Megatron could actually be considered a very educated mech even if others wouldn't believe in the fact he was intelligent at all. Once Sentinel was in charge though he knew better about the Cold Consteucted's ability for intelligence, unfortunately he saw that as a threat and the greater number of Overseers that were said to be there to fix the problems of workplace safety also became harsh jailers with almost any kind of reading banned. As well Sentinel applied even stricter conditions on what knowledge new Cold Consteucted Cybertronians could have installed at initial activation.

Aware enough to be disgusted by this Megatron took action. First he began illegal schools in the mines. Teaching all new workers how to read beyond just the words on some signs around the mines, math, basic science, and anything else he could get materials for. These classes led many younger miners viewing Megatron as mentor like what all forged Cybertronains were allowed to have. Megatron also began writing and crunching numbers to release papers about how the use of a Cold Constructed, or later assigned under Functionist Endentured Servitude for younger Forged, work force and their mistreatment was both unethical and not even mathematically efficient. He'd have these writings distributed with the help of some mechs part of the Cold Constructed batch known as the Convoy and Forged Cybertronians who were already sympathetic.

Unfortunately he was eventually found out and in attempt to silence him one of his overseers began to beat Megatron brutally. Fearing for his own life Megatron reached out, grabbed a mining drill, and struck the Overseer with it killing them. This erupted into the entire mine starting an open revolt and before Megatron could process taking his first life he was standing on a balcony having taken the city of Tarn and giving his famous speech "You Are Being Decieved". For a time the restructuring of the city was going well but then in a surprise attack agents loyal to Sentinel Prime captured Megatron taking him away and began to try and retake the city.

Sentinel Prime was a mech bot astonishingly cruel and at time paradoxically sensible. The latter comes up in that he knew just killing Megatron now meant creating the type of martyr not seen since the begining of Nova Prime's own liberation of Cybertron, the former shined in his decision to try and remedy that by breaking the revolutionary. So Megatron was made prisoner in the Gladiator Pits of Kaon forced to fight for his life almost every day and the brutality required to do it shown to the planet in a bid to make his followers think he was nothing but a violent brute stripped of any intelligence or rhetoric. Unfortunately this ended up working against the Prime as not only did Megatron become popular as a gladiator but the Senator running the Pit Ratbat refused orders to actually later just pull the trigger and kill Megatron even having his 'son' Soundwave leak recordings of Megatron's fights in which he gave speeches upon winning. Of course Ratbat thought Megatron would never escape just wanting all the money this popular fighter was bringing him. So he wasn't counting on a combination of Soundwave's infatuation with the revolutionary plus hatred of Ratbat's treatment, the other the top gladiators the Combaticons becoming loyal to Megatron plus having rediscovered the lost power of combination, and Optimus Prime leading a strike force to save his friend all leading to his downfall.

Once rescued Megatron would become co-leader of the Autobots but by then a darkness had already been born that would come to almost engulf the mech's spark and quickly lead to the begining of the Autobot vs Decepticon war.

Ratchet

A bot that can truly be called an elder Ratchet had been serving as a medic for a large amount of Nova Prime's initial unification and when the new Cybertronian Governement was established Ratchet was provided his own hospital to run in Iacon. At first this was fine but then the medic learned about the Cold Constructed. Having no involvement in their creation he was also appaled when he did an independent investigation into the conditions they were under. He attempted to argue against the injustice of it all but by this point those that had fully entrenched themselves in the new political power structure of Cybertron had no reason to change how the tide was turning and Ratchet was "encouraged" to drop the subject.

Instead he went to ground and started illegally medically treating the Cold Constructed and any other bot that Nova, later Sentinel's, society was leaving behind. Many of the Cybertronians who served under Nova and didn't get involved in the government, plus a minority of politicians who were too afraid to actively speak out against the rest, respected Ratchet letting him get away and do what ever he wished to aid those that needed it.

Sentinel and those that he promoted were much less forgiving and the old mech found himself being turned away and in some cases attacked when trying to provide others with care. It started to seem hopeless but then Ratchet met a young Orion Pax and as time went on he began to see in him what Nova was like before the weight of his decisions and apathy let him compromise on the dream he had fir Cybertron. When Orion Pax returned on the scene as Optimus Prime, Ratchet decided this time he'd be working right along the new Prime and just maybe finally get the equal society where all can be treated well.

Sixshot

Throughout Cybertron's history there was organizations that seemed to possess abilities that went beyond what normal Cybertronian's should be capable of. The Six Clan of Cyber Ninja were one such group discovering techniques that not only let ones spark comfortably exist in a frame or alt mode it was not attuned to at creation but also increase the total number of forms one could become. Sixshot was the current leader of the clan when he revealed himself to the bit who would become Nova Prime. Seeing the Quintessons as an existential threat he broke the clans policy on neutrality and secrecy teaching the young leader how to have flight incorporated into his frame with a third mode to match, then actively fought to free Cybertron and unify it with Nova's forces.

When the conflict ended Sixshot took a majority of the Six Clan back into hiding at their monastery not having any interest in politic now that the threat had passed. Later when Sentinel took over he came not to recieve training but to challenge Sixshot for right to command him and his clan. Sentinel lost horribly and Sixshot scarred the Cybertronian leader stating to never try and find his clan again.

Years later though another would come to their door. This time a recently freed Megatron who had heard legend of the Six Clan from fellow gladiators. He chose to be humble and requested simply training for him and some of his men so they might better fight for their freedom. Sixshot after some negotiating agreed and trained many of these at the time Autobots. Some stand outs include Megatron actually managing to master four modes the three besides robot being a tank, heavy armored fighter jet, and a cannon; A newer recruit Soundwave learned the secrets of size shifting and stealth; Springer who was part of another group of rebellious working bots called the Wreckers became a triple changer; One of Optimis Prime's lieutenants Jazz learned the fighting styles and weapons of the cyber ninja but kept to a single alt mode type he was forged with; One final student of note was a fellow miner of Megatron's Lugnut who desired strength and the ability to fly because he was injured and unable to chase after "Glorious Megatron" when his leader had been abducted and taken to Kaon, while not able to mentally match the Cyber Ninja mentality at all he did succeed in his goals even adapting a cyber ninja fighting move into what he called a Punch Of Kill Everything.

Once these students were trained Sixshot wished them well and expected Cybertron to be back to peaceful so he could go back to looking after his clan in peaceful isolation. Instead later still Megatron returned again. This time not humble but like Sentinel before him demanding a challenge to command the Six Clan as part of his now independent Decepticon faction. Unlike Sentinel, Megatron could back up his talk and defeats Sixshot. From then on the Six Clan were sworn to the Decepticon cause whether they wished to be or not and became a deadly force in Megatron's new war against the Autobots.

The UK has Britannia. France has Marianne. The US have Uncle Sam. National personifications, summing up supposed collective qualities and passing on a message, both to citizens and foreigners alike. Instantly recognizable by just about anyone. To be found everywhere, from city halls (busts, frescoes, tapestries) to subway walls (Army conscription posters - of course it rings a bell!).

Romania has this:

This is Revolutionary Romania, as seen by C.D. Rosenthal, an Austrian painter who found both friendship and an avid clientele among the Romanian young rebels who tried and failed to overthrow the corrupted Ottoman rule, in 1848. Following them in exile and probably also spying on their behalf, Rosenthal was finally arrested in Budapest and tortured to death by the Imperial authorities: a normal occurrence in troubled times. His memory went on and on and on, because the same friends were soon to come back home and become ministers, bankers, newspaper owners: a modern democracy slowly emerged.

This is his most famous portrait and it quickly became our Britannia of sorts. Ceaușescu had it placed in his office, for inspiration - it did not help much, though.

The woman painted by Rosenthal holds the red, yellow and blue flag and is dressed in a Southern peasant costume, as it was worn at the time. She gazes with strength, determination and confidence towards a future that spells free press, parliamentary elections, industrialization and capitalist speculation. In real life, she is Maria Rosetti, a personal friend and sponsor of his. The wife of C.A. Rosetti, an authentic Prince of Genoese and Greek stock, one of the leaders of both the rebellion and the future Liberal Party. Also a many times removed relative of this blogger - but let's not insist. 😉

There is a catch, however, in all this fine and dandy story. Our national personification, the woman I just mentioned, is Scottish. Her life begins in Guernsey in 1819, as Marie Grant, the daughter of Captain Edward Grant, a ship-owner businessman and member of the Clan Grant of Carron and Spey and Marie La Lacheur, a French Huguenot woman.

These people, who fought as Jacobites at Prestonpans and Culloden and whose motto was 'Stand Fast':

Marie came to Wallachia, or what is now the Southern part of Romania, around 1837, following her younger brother, Effingham Grant, who just managed to find a lucrative job as the private secretary of another Scot (Glaswegian, even), Robert Gilmour Colquhoun, the newly appointed British Consul-General. At the time, these were long term postings, not unlike a long sojourn on a space station of sorts: Colquhoun remained in Bucharest from 1835 to 1854, when he eventually was posted to Bosnia.

Because she needed to support herself, Marie found a well paid live-in job as a governess for the family of Ion Odobescu, a high ranking Police honcho (also a far removed relative, this time on my maternal grandmother's side - the world is really, really small). The rest was easy enough: having met Rosetti through her brother, they fell in love, eloped to Plymouth and got married there, for what was to become a life long equal political and business partnership. Because they owned several newspapers, she is our first female journalist. A truly remarkable woman, a philanthropist and an indispensable voice advocating for the dispossessed. Effingham went on to establish the biggest foundry in the country, along with a real estate company, a tobacco manufacture, an orchid greenhouse and a bread factory - all prospered beyond any expectations. A heavy traffic steel bridge in Bucharest still bears his name. Enduring legacies.

Power Rangers Jungle Fury but they're Space Rock People

Because this came to my mind for some reason, have a random PRJF AU wherein the cast is a bunch of Gems, taken from the game Gem Galaxies which is inspired by SU.

Casey Rhodes - Cherry Quartz Cut 1CR. Forming as a Defective Quartz soldier, Casey was assigned to the Pai Zhua Combat and Containment Facility to be taught how to be a better soldier in order to better protect the rest of Gemkind against some of the contained enemies within the Facility. After only a few months, however, catastrophe struck, as one of the largest contained forces of the Facility broke free. 1CR took the place of one of the Facility's best who was to receive the Facility Guardian title, and he along with 2 other Gems were placed into a.. Special, programme, ran by an oddball Gem that provided the trio with powers Gemkind had never seen before, and placed into the position of leader. Though lacking a LOT of self-confidence, 1CR tries to prove he has potential despite being labelled as Defective.. And eventually, Casey gains the courage to go and retrieve the Gem who'd been taken and turned against Pai Zhua, and who he'd replaced.

Theo Martin - Willemite Cut TM02. A Fluorescent technical specialist, though TM09 started out initially as just another Willemite, one day his work skills and intelligence suddenly spiked in improvement, and he joined the Combat and Containment Facility not long after this improvement was noted. Theo became one of the best in the Facility, capable of both technological prowess and also defending himself and others with what he has, and such prowess earnt him the Facility Guardian title. Uptight, a perfectionist, and by-the-law, he butts heads with 1CR a lot as a Defective Gem being in charge, but ultimately comes to respect the Quartz.

Lily Chilman - Sandstone Cabochon 3L (Sandstones concept made by lonelyperiwinkle). A perky and energetic coloniser, she joined the Combat and Containment Facility seeking to do more with her life beyond terraforming the sands of planets. She earnt the title of Facility Guardian in time as her combat capabilities improved beyond what was expected for a coloniser Gem, and as she incorporated her love of dance and sand-manipulation abilities into her fighting. Unlike her fellow Guardian and close "friend", Theo, Lily was always very friendly to Casey and was happy with him being the leader, though she was also always somewhat concerned he'd been handed too much responsibility so soon after forming and joining the Facility.

Robert James "RJ" - Peridot Cut 04RJ. The oddball and Off-Coloured Peridot of the Combat and Containment Facility, who was given their Promoted Rank and separate branch of the Facility to conduct their work in. Though they come off as initially serious, they're actually a very jovial and friendly Peridot, who doesn't let being different deter him.. Not anymore, at least. When the Combat and Containment Facility is struck, Casey, Theo, and Lily are all sent to him to receive his guidance and technological assistance, and RJ provides the trio with a new experimental programme he's been working on, giving the group their morphers which enhanced them with unique organic-esque abilities, and the strength needed to fight the released enemies and dangers. RJ joins them eventually himself.

Dominic Hargan - Titanium Cut 5DH. A large and intimidating Metal who in actuality, while strong and tanky, is a friendly jokester of a goofball. Initially sent to the Combat and Containment Facility to improve his behaviour and make him less of a jokester, he was assigned to RJ's branch to aid him in his research, and the two became firm friends. After a rebel attack left Dominic severely dented, cracked, and damaged, he was sent away for the sake of his recovery. After fully healing and gaining the support he needed to prevent corrupting due to the severity of the attack, 5DH returned to continue helping his friend, and ultimately joining the Ranger team.

Fran - Orange Spinel Cut 6OF. A Spinel who, while able to cheer up and please the people, suffers from an unnatural amount of anxiety and nerves that Spinels don't tend to have. She encountered RJ one day when he was out of his workplace and the two became friends, RJ supporting the Spinel despite her anxieties and eventually inviting her to be in his branch, where she could feel a bit safer. She initially was kept in the dark on his experimental programme due to the nature of the programme and technology itself, but she eventually finds out, and stays supportive.

Jarrod - Gold Cut J6K. A masc-presenting Gold, and a once great Aristocrat within the Combat and Containment Facility. He was sent to the Facility upon forming in the Kindergarten, and has remained there since. Initially, J6K was a somewhat reserved Gem, much unlike the many other Golds of Gemkind, and having been already different due to how he presented himself, the Gold was teased and tormented. Though he made friends in the Titanium 5DH that was sent to the Facility himself, Jarrod found himself alone when Dominic was damaged in a major attack and sent away for recovery. And something within him snapped. The Gold became haughty and rude, and though that was typical for Golds, Jarrod also proved to be more.. Violent, than others. Though he fought his way to the Facility Guardian title, he never got to keep it due to his behaviour, as it was decided he'd be sent away from the Facility himself to elsewhere.

This was what allowed one of the most dangerous captures of the Containment Facility, a violent and malicious Rebel Platinum, Dai Shi - draconic in appearance and who saught revenge, to lure Jarrod with temptation. The Gold ended up forcibly fused with the Platinum, and though their fusion was immensely unhealthy and harmful, Dai Shi refused to let him go almost like a parasite, dragging him to his old Rebel hideaway by force and surrounding him with old "friends" Dai Shi knew; It took until he was given the strength needed by others, that Jarrod was able to escape the fusion. In the end, the Platinum Dai Shi was shattered after they fully corrupted into a horrific dragon entirely.

Camille - Chameleon Green Pearl Model 9CA. A Pearl, one of thousands among the Gempire, made to serve others. She was plucked out by Dai Shi centuries ago, dragging the Gem into his combat and his schemes which eventually grew rebellious. Camille was enamoured with the Platinum who'd taken her, and though her Pearl coding told her to report the rebellious Gem, she never did; The promises of love he gave, and the overwhelming loyalty and need to serve him that he reinforced, caused her to stay by his side eternally. Upon Dai Shi's capture, she stayed at their old hidden away rebel base, waiting for his return.. Only to fall in love slowly not with Dai Shi, but with the Gold he had forcibly fused with to be able to return and escape containment.

Two awesome days with Team Cher

Day Two:

Up bright and early today to partake in an 8am committee meeting about yet another silly pointless bill the hate mongering Majority Party is trying to get passed.

This one banning anything they define as a "political" flag or even picture or reproduction of a flag anywhere in a government area. This includes schools, airports. Etc.

They have labeled the rainbow 🌈 flag "political" and want to ban it. The real goal of the bill.

The meeting was filled with right wing rhetoric and lies (as usual) and when it was finally time for public comments the vastly overwhelming majority were against the bill.

So many people spoke out against the bill that the time per speaker kept getting reduced. From 3 minutes to 1 minute then 30 seconds to none at all. Dozens of people (including me, but luckily 2 of my team members did get to speak) never got to add thier thoughts to those already opposing the bill.

Didn't matter.

The bill passed the committee along party lines. No surprise there.

More delivered more bill information sheets and attempts at walk up appointments until our next meeting. Which was an interesting one.

We were meeting with a film crew who would be our companions for the rest of the day.

Yep, I (and Team Cher) are part of a documentary to air later this year (on Prime and Hulu) about those of us combating the horrible things happening in Florida. We are just a segment in the program along with a look at an Openly LGBT Senator candidate and Equality Florida in general.

They filmed our pre-meeting game plan session, one meeting with a wonderfully supportive Senator, our post meeting thoughts with both Senators, including the meeting with a someone from the opposition party.

Then lastly they filmed our overall thoughts and reflections on the two days of work we put in.

Can't wait to see how it's all put together!

Lunch was provided by the Florida Democratic Party in there conference room and media center.

We left just enough time to run down to the rotunda again (the stairs were faster then the wait for an elevator) to support another Equality Florida press conference.

Our afternoon meeting was with Senator Torres from Orlando.

He's a terrific ally and has a grand daughter who is a transwoman.

Needless to say the 22 bills introduced already this session by the Majority Party is something he loudly opposes.

He did welcome the film crew so you will be able to see and hear his words of profound wisdom. Truly inspiring.

The last meeting of the day was with a Senator from the oppressors (sorry. I mean opposition) party.

He was less the enthusiastic about our meeting.

Still we agreed in our strategy meeting (being filmed) we would be friendly, respectful and professional.

We were the only ones.

The senator first limited our group to only two of us, claiming his office was too small.

To bad there were couches and chairs for at least 6 in the office and an empty meeting room next door.

Then took a phone call during the alloted 15 minutes. Which didn't go even a second longer despite the call mid meeting.

He was also dismissive, confrontational and rude.

All of which we let the film crew and Democratic House leaders know about.

They weren't surprised.

The whole encounter brought on the feelings that we are fighting the evil Galactic Empire.

Enhanced by the string of 9 straight middle age (and older) white men in nearly matching suits, white shirts and ties marching into the Republican office as we arrived.

The next coming of stormtroopers.

Then I looked at the 8 of us. Diverse, colorful, full of conviction and belief in what's right.

Like a band of rebel fighters.

Hopefully we can fight them off before they takeover completely.

I felt like I was part of the solution. Part of fighting the good fight against those wanting a facist theocracy run by heartless, evil wanna be dictators.

The last bit of business was the wrap up interviews for the film crew. We all chipped in with our feelings about the event, the real struggles we faced and how we bonded as a group. This was filmed outdoors in front of the capital where just hours ago we took the group photo.

Saying goodbye was all that was left and more then a few tears were shed.

Along with a group hug.

Even our captain, who has done these teams many times before, said this group was special and one of a kind in how we bonded.

We agreed to try to reunite next year and I hope it happens.

If not, it was a life changing, inspiring and emotional 2 days.

So to Devon, Charles, Stephanie, Marissa Katie, Corey and Tanya, I'll never forget this and will always be part of #TeamCher4life.

ISLAM 101: ALMS AND CHARITY: VIRTUES OF ZAKAT: Part 9

DID ZAKAT EXIST IN RELIGIONS PRIOR TO ISLAM?

Past prophets have also been under obligation to take humankind by the hand and show all the roads leading to physical and spiritual ascension; thus, they too have shown the precious path of zakat as part of a primordial effort to diminish class differences in societies and to provide a judicious and blissful lifestyle remote from detrimental excessiveness. By virtue of providing examples of previous Prophetic applications, the Qur’an does much to put the accent on this mission. Following a brief reference in the Qur’an to the prophets Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob comes the following declaration:

And We made them leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command: We inspired in them acts of virtue, the establishment of salat and payment of zakat. They were worshippers of Us. (Anbiya 21:73)

In reference to Prophet Ishmael, the matchless significance of salat and zakat as the primordial existence of alms as an essential component of worship is underlined from early on: “He used to enjoin his people salat and zakat, and was acceptable in the sight of his Lord” (Maryam 19:55).

Salat and Zakat, in actual fact, are the common denominators of all monotheistic religions, where salat and zakat, after belief in the Oneness of God, form the very core of worship. In fact, salat and zakat are, or at least were, essential characteristics of all of the great religions of the world, those guided by a long line of prophets sent by God since the dawn of humankind, despite the fact that current forms of worship in some faith communities may vary in outward appearance. In support of this, the Qur’an, adamantly states:

They were ordered no more than to worship God with sincere devotion, to honestly establish salat and give zakat. And that is the Standard Religion.” (Bayyina 98:5)

The following verse, which provides insight into how  the people of Midian first received teachings of Prophet Jethro (Shuayb) teachings about obligatory zakat, bears testimony to its practice in preceding times:

In sarcasm, they said, “O Jethro! Does your salat command you that we should abandon what our forefathers worshipped or that we should cease doing what we like with our property? Conversely, you are pleasant and right-minded.” (Hud 11:87)

The Midians’ apprehension at being compelled to cease doing what they liked with their properties denotes, almost certainly, a remonstration against zakat. The people of the Midian, who evidently had a complete appreciation for the altruistic Jethro, still could not get themselves to accept or follow Jethro’s brave attempts to encourage them to perform proper salat or give zakat; branding him instead as an instigator, and a rebel. As is the usual case with similar public dissensions, the people of Midian had a ready scapegoat for giving full vent to their frustrations about the obligation of zakat which was, as can be seen, salat itself.

Even though the Qur’an does not explain, literally, whether or not each prophet carried the duty of imposing zakat, it is highly possible to argue for its primordial existence through the ideal notion of peace, the humane spirit of assistance and support represented and accentuated by each Messenger, beginning with the Prophet Adam, and the Qur’anic references discussed above.

In addition, despite having their initial contents altered, the Torah and the Bible still include many passages which support the proposition that zakat actually predates Islam. As no revelations prior to Muhammad %(upon whom be peace) have survived to this day in their original forms, a fact supported even among Jewish and Christian scholars, the sole, authoritative point of reference in this argument remains the Qur’an itself. Additionally, it is worth noting that the Qur’an stresses zakat was enjoined as a duty on Jews and Christians, as well, not just on Muslims, as the textual references to the Qur’an which are included below will clearly demonstrate. Likewise, an analysis of the Torah and the Bible provides fascinating similarities and conformities with Islam’s all-embracing concept of zakat.

ZAKAT IN JUDAISM

The Qur’an generally tends to speak of the Jews as somewhat “skaters on thin ice,” underlining their preponderantly neglectful attitude concerning their religious responsibilities and periodically provides us a detailed account of what exactly those responsibilities were:

And (remember) when We made a covenant with the Children of Israel, We said; “Serve none but God, show kindness to your parents and to your relatives, to the orphans and the needy; speak kindly to humankind, establish the prayer and pay the zakat. But with the exception of a few, you turned away and paid no heed. (Baqara 2:83)

Zakat along with salat is sternly recommended as a requirement for divine acquittal for their transgressions:

God made a covenant of old with the Children of Israel, and We raised among them twelve chieftains, and God said: “I am with you. If you establish salat and pay the zakat, and believe in My Messengers and support them, and lend to God a goodly loan, surely I shall remit your sins, and surely I shall admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow. Whosoever among you disbelieves after this has gone astray from a straight path.” (Maida 5:12)

And in spite of undergoing multiple amendments, the current text of the Torah still grants us glimpses of the spirit of zakat, grounded on the relations between the rich and the poor:

Jehovah has not despised or been disgusted with the plight of the oppressed one. He has not hidden His face from that person. Jehovah heard when that oppressed person cried out to Him for help. (Psalms 22:24)

When you help the poor (needy) (lowly) (depressed) you lend to Jehovah. He will pay you back. (Proverbs 19:17)

He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker. He who has mercy for the poor honors his Maker. (Proverbs 14:31)

This is what you must do whenever there are poor Israelites in one of your cities in the land that Jehovah your God is giving you. Be generous to these poor people. Freely lend them as much as they need. Never be hardhearted and stingy with them. When the seventh year, the year when payments on debts are canceled, is near, you might be stingy toward poor Israelites and give them nothing. Be careful not to think these worthless thoughts. The poor will complain to Jehovah about you, and you will be condemned for your sin. Give the poor what they need, because then Jehovah will make you successful in everything you do. (Deuteronomy 15:7-12)

He who gives to the poor will not lack. But he who hides his eyes will have many curses. (Proverbs 28:27)

And if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in the darkness and your gloom will be like midday. (Isaiah 58:10)

He who gets ahead by oppressing the poor and giving to the rich will certainly suffer loss. (Proverbs 22:16)

It is certainly easy, by and large, to draw a connection between the above verses and many Qur’anic passages, not to mention the conspicuously striking similarities between some. It is these considerable parallels that lead us to the conclusion that the ideas and instructions all stem from the same source, God, and that the essential issues concerning humankind have, quite surprisingly, undergone very little change despite human’s apparent weakness as a transmitter over time.

One further point deserves mention. The above quotations gathered from the Torah, as well as the upcoming Biblical passages, are from current versions of the texts which have, as is widely accepted and as noted above, been partially or predominantly altered, though the exact extent and manner in which such changes have been brought to these ancient scriptures is a matter for debate. A tentative and prudent approach to the current versions is thus the correct attitude, as recommended wisely by the Prophet Muhammad (upon whom be peace) himself:

When the People of the Book utter a narration, do not agree nor disagree with them, but say, “We only believe in God and His Messengers.” This way, concurrence is avoided if they speak lies, and denial is avoided provided that they speak the truth.

ZAKAT IN CHRISTIANITY

The situation in Christianity is no different, for the Prophet Jesus, while still in the cradle, utters the duties obliged onto him by God in the following manner:

(Whereupon) he (the baby) spoke out: “I am indeed a servant of God. He has given me the Scripture and has appointed me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I may be and has commanded me to pray and to give alms to the poor as long as I live. And (He) has made me dutiful to my mother and has not made me oppressive, wicked. So peace be upon me the day I was born and the day that I die and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again).” (Maryam 19:30-33)

Considering the fact that the Bible predominantly focuses on ethical issues, a jurisprudential adherence to the Torah, so to speak, was a social necessity. Nonetheless, there are copious Biblical verses which themselves allude to zakat and sadaqa. The  following  passages  may throw light on this discussion; of course, the possible alterations to these passages must be kept in mind:

Be careful! Do not display your righteousness (good works) before men to be noticed by them. If you do, you will have no reward with your heavenly Father. Do not loudly announce it when you give to the poor. The hypocrites do this in the houses of worship and on the streets. They do this to be praised by men. Believe me, they have already been paid in full. When you give charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. (Matthew 6:1-3)

He looked at him and was afraid. “What is it, Lord?” he replied. The angel said: “God hears your prayers and sees your gifts of mercy. (Acts 10:4)

He said: Cornelius, your prayer is heard and your gifts of mercy are noticed in the sight of God. (Acts 10:31)

Jesus then replied: “If you wish to be complete, go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor. You will have wealth in heaven. Then follow  me!” But hearing these words, the young man went away grieving, for he was very wealthy. Jesus said to his disciples: “Truly I tell you, it is hard for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of heaven. Again I say, it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of God.” (Matthew 19:21-24)

Sell your possessions and give to charity. Make yourselves purses that do not get old, a treasure in heaven where moth and rust cannot corrupt and thieves cannot steal. (Luke 12:33)

And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, I gain nothing. (Corinthians 13:3)

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You tithe mint and dill and cumin and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. You should do both and leave nothing undone. (Matthew 23:23)

It is thus quite possible to, again, draw connections between the Qur’an and Hadith, on the one hand, and many Biblical passages. The level of conspicuous similarities between the above texts accentuates their unity of origin. Adopting this approach in scrutinizing the Torah and the Bible will, undeniably, offer us much more evidence culminating in the very same conclusion.

FE3H 2: Azure Lightning Boogaloo

Inspired by @randomnameless 's recent post, a chronology of what may happen after AM's ending!

Imperial Year 1187: After the Empire's fall in 1186, the newly crowned King and Archbishop decided to retire the Imperial calendar and mark the year 1187 as the beginning of the new Kingdom Years.

Kingdom Year XX: The well loved King Dimitri passed away :( Wanting to make his wish for peace last forever, Archbishop Byleth introduced new laws that forbid usage of violence within Fodlan. All internal conflicts should now be solved by dance battles, as in memory of King Dimitri who was the champion of the White Heron Cup. However, unknown to Byleth, this became the first crack between the Church and the royal family, as while the Blaiddyds are very good at combats, they absolutely hate dancing :(

Kingdom Year 420: Byleth started to feel lonely and borrowed Rhea's homunculi recipe to make clones of Dimi :(

Kingdom Year 777: Duke Riegan had enough of Blaiddyd women throwing his male family members out of window as holiday entertainment (they call it "The Luna Knight Show") and decided to rebel. After intense training by Count Gloucester, he destroyed the King in their dance battle at Ailell (later known as the Ball of the Lion and Deer). Being ashamed by the defeat and dizzy by the heat, the King couldn't help but punched Duke Riegan once and caused him to break several bones. Archbishop Billy (who was totally not Byleth) had to step in and meditate between them. As a result, Leicester was granted its independence and formed the Sacred Dukedom of Leicester.

Kingdom Year 808: The people in Adrestia still wanted to make Adrestia great again and thus started their own rebellion. Learning from their previous defeat, the Kingdom sent the Blue Lion Dancers as their strongest units to suppress the rebellion, but they were still no match for the experienced dancers from the Mittlefrank Opera House. The story took a sharp turn when Margrave Edmond suddenly appeared on the dancing field and overwhelmed everyone with her Requiem Dance which she inherited from her ancestor Marianne. Adrestia ended up becoming part of the Sacred Dukedom of Leicester.

Kingdom Year 848: After the death of Archduke Claus II, his 3 sons couldn't decide who should inherit the throne because their dance skills were equal. The Dukedom split into Leicester, Adrestia and Mach with each prince ruling one part.

Kingdom Year 859: Archbishop Barney (who was certainly neither Byleth nor Billy) saved a Leicester dancer called Jessica who was attacked by a demonic beast. To cure her injury, Barney used some stock blood that Rhea sent her for Cardinal rituals. She kept her as the Chief Dancer of Seiros.

Kingdom Year 888: As the Grand Duke of Adrestia died without leaving a heir, several nobles of Adrestia plotted to build a new republic that will be jointly ruled by all of them. By studying old documents kept by the Church in Enbarr, they recovered the lost techniques of the legendary Dance of the Goddess. Having it performed by the best dancers of Mittlefrank, they overthrown the Grand Duke of Mach who tried to take over Adrestia and ousted all interference from Leicester (later known as the Red Rose Ball). The Adrestia Republic is officially founded, ruled by the squaretable of the Seven Great Nobles with Duke Aegir as their leader.

Kingdom Year 969: To celebrate the 950th anniversary of peaceful treaty between Fodlan and Almyra, the Officers Academy in Garreg Mach is official renamed to the Dancers Academy, and construction was started to renovate Fodlan's Locket into a dance hall.

Kingdom Year 1024: An uprising occurred in Faerghus as Count Charon refused to let her son Victor inherit her position as Minister of Religious Dances, saying those dances only suit women. The Western Church and their Azure Knights supported Victor and challenged Count Charon to a dance battle. However, the King who happened to be visiting the county was too sick of people dancing at his doorstep that he ordered to exile Victor and dismantle the Western Church. The Central Church protested against this decision but it was ignored, and the Kingdom started to distance themselves from the Church.

Kingdom Year 1111: The renovation of Fodlan's Locket was completed.

Kingdom Year 1139: Byleth's 12th Dimi clone, Daniel, was born. Later, he fell in love with Jessica.

Kingdom Year 1159: Daniel and Jessica's daughter, Diana, was born. Unfortunately, Daniel's frail body couldn't stand the excitement of becoming a dad, causing him to die of shock :( Jessica couldn't accept the loss, and found her kid "not normal" as she kept crushing milk bottles when people try to feed her. Archbishop Hera (who was definitely unrelated to any of Byleth, Billy or Barney) was also sus as she appeared eerily happy whenever she saw Diana broke an iron bar off her bed. Eventually, Jessica decided to start a fire to escape with Diana, living as a wandering street performer.

Kingdom Year 1180: Princess Elizabeth of Faerghus, Prince Diego of Leicester and Clark the son of Duke Aegir enrolled in the Dancers Academy. In their first field trip, Jessica's dancer group happened to stop by and made a performance. All three heirs were fascinated by Diana's dance and insisted that she came with them to Garreg Mach. Against Jessica's will, Diana became the dance instructor for the Golden Deers and herself returned to her old position of Chief Dancer of Seiros.

Kingdom Year 1181: After yet another year of the Lions not receiving a single vote in the White Heron Cup, Princess Elizabeth revealed that she was the Ice King who had been causing incidents to disturb dance lessons throughout the year, and declared war on the Church. She claimed her goal was to free Fodlan from the Church's oppressive rule with the Dance System, and also that the Archbishop was an inhuman monster who had no heartbeat, as she learned from the secret knowledge that had been verbally passed down from king to king. Frustrated by her betrayal, Hera fended off the Kingdom Army with the help of Diana, but Diana accidentally fell off a cliff and she alone couldn't beat the power of Major Crest of Blaiddyd. Hera gushed over how the Great Savior King Dimitri had always loved her and supported her as she was captured by Elizabeth, who ignored her.

Kingdom Year 1185: Diana woke up and reunited with Diego, who was exiled from Derdiru because his uncle Rubert launched a coup, claiming that Leicester had always been part of Faerghus and Riegan a branch of Blaiddyd. Adrestia stayed neutral because while Clark, as an Aegir, thinks that dancing is cool, he was actually half Brigid and felt like Hera may be racist towards them as she built a dance hall for the Almyrans at Fodlan's Throat, but didn't build anything for them at Fodlan's Fang :(

Kingdom Year 1186: After joining forces with the rest of the deers and some Church knights, Diana and Diego crossed Ailell and fought a three-way battle with Elizabeth and Clark who was also there for some reason at Tailtean. While victorious, they lost a lot of people including Diego's second father, Count Gloucester :( Diego reconsidered his decision to try defeat the Kingdom asap, and concluded they'd better retake Derdiru first to gain more troops. As they turned around to defeat Rubert, Enbarr got attacked by Duke Fraldarius and so Clark sent a request for aid to Leicester. Diego and Diana answered the request and defeated Duke Fraldarius, only to be met with the surprise that Clark is leaving Fodlan and will hand over his family heirloom Lance of Assar along with all of Adrestia to Diego. Finally, as they marched towards Fhirdiad, Diego tried to make peace with Elizabeth, as she was his childhood friend back when she visited Derdiru and taught him dancing (also that they were related 1000+ years ago). But Elizabeth got even angrier, saying someone so talented with dancing like him will never understand how those without such talent feel, and transformed herself into Edgemon Elizabeth. After a long hard battle, Diana defeated the Edgemon with the power of her own Major Crest of Blaiddyd, and rescued Hera from the dungeon of the Fhirdiad Castle. Hera handed over her position as Archbishop to Diana, who married the newly crowned Archduke Diego, joining Rhea in her retired life at Zanado.

Dukedom Year ????: Byleth and Rhea enjoying Zanado fruits in their little hut, making jokes over the news that some "Storm Duke" had been causing troubles in Garreg Mach recently.
