7+8=15, carry the 1. 1+2+4=7. Thus, 27+48=75.
It is the old way. You will not see this way again. It is the way of the ancients. The elders. The ones who have gone before.

At what temperature INDOORS (not outdoor weather) do you start to become noticeably uncomfortable (sweaty, heavy, don't feel like doing anything, etc.) and begin trying to cool off yourself or your environment?
(Like, at what point do you start putting out fans, turning on the AC, getting ice water, etc. because the indoor room temperature has gotten too high for you?)
It's starting to get warmer weather where I live, so I was thinking about it/curious how this might vary :0
(sorry if the celsius conversions aren't entirely accurate, I just used a website to look them up/am not familiar with measuring things that way myself lol)
#polls#tumblr polls#summer#Honestly mine is like... 71F lol.. I would say it starts to get uncomfortable to the point that I'm distracted by it around 74/75F#but even at 71 I am noticably warm and will go try to check what the temperature is and would like turn on the air if I had it or etc.#What i get is just that my skin will be warm?? Like it almost feels like I'm wearing a sweater when I'm not. I just feel this sheet of heat#kind of lingering above my skin even when my arm is bare and has nothing on it. It feels like I'm shrouded. And I get a little flushed and#headacehy feeling. and super lethargic where I don't feel like doing anything or eating or anything else. Like today it was only 73 in my#room earlier and I nearly skipped lunch just to lay on the floor. I just don't feel hungry and I dont feel like moving or thinking#or doing anything really. I would eat food if it was brought to me but I don't desire it anymore the way I do sometimes in the winter.#BUT I'm also super heat sensitive due to health conditions and stuff so. Someone told me a few days ago that 72F is comfortable#for most people lol..??? Which is maybe true. Even though that's the point that I start looking around the room like 'ermm...is anyone#else warm??'. But yeah. I guess my answer would seriously be like... 71 for when I actually start to GET uncomfrotable. But then its like#74/75 at the point that I become soooo deeply uncomfortable that I'm like... I Must Do Something About This NOW. Like sometimes#it could be 71 and I'm just like.. grr.. whatever..and keep doing what I'm doing even though I'm warm. But at like 74F I'm getting up to ge#a fan or something and I'm so warm I can't distract myself from it. So as you can imagine. the summers where it gets like 83F IN my#apartment at night are misserablle.. lol..#I think my ideal spot for indoor temperature is like.. 64 - 68F or so. Though i would ALWAYS rather be cold than hot so. Like I would rathe#have to be in a 52F apartment for 5 months than in a 80F apartment for just one month LOL#Just the thought nearly makes me tear up.. oh imagine it only being 55F indoors... ah..#right now it's 77.5 in my room and I'm not like.. SWEATING. but I just feel the Sheet of warmth over everything and I feel more joint#achey and like I have a fever and this feeling like I can't take a deep enough breath because the air is thick. and I am NOT hungry at all#or maybe even a little nauseated. and I just want to lay down. I've been struggling to focus on any task all day. There's maybe a very very#light mist of sweat only on the underarms but it's not like the type of sweating where your whole body and chest is drenched. So its like#I stay dry and I don't look red or flushed or anything BUT it just makes me feel intensely lethargic and like everything is heavy.#I don't LOOK hot or SEEM warm visibly (like being red and sweaty) but it takes like a Silent Toll on my body or something lol

For the landoscar word prompt: homesick
okay i'm sorry this one took 55 minutes and still like. doesn't rlly end. idk, i couldn't work it out, have some melancholy rambling ig....
It's snowed every winter Lando's been at university, and this is his fourth, so he really should be used to it. It's just. He'd had an exam in the morning that he'd spent all night cramming for, and it hadn't been snowing on his walk back. It had been cold - enough that he'd tugged on a hoodie before crawling back under his covers - but it hadn't been snowing when he'd set his alarm and started his nap.
It's snowing when he wakes up, though. Maybe there's something about opening his eyes and turning his face out from the pillow and seeing it first that way. The sun's about to set; maybe it's the way it glows in the last afternoon light. Whatever it is crawls under his ribs and sits there like a pill he's swallowed the wrong direction, aching every time he swallows and breathes. He's not even fully awake. The memories are half dream when he blinks out the window and sees the ghosts of his little sisters in puffy jackets and his mum calling them back to tug hats on each of them so their ears won't go too pink.
It doesn't even snow much in Bristol. It snows much more here.
The washer is running when Lando pads out into the living room and he hadn't started it himself, which means Oscar is home from his afternoon class. His bedroom door is closed, and Lando really shouldn't bother him, but his stomach is heavy like lead and it feels out-of-sorts in a way that only his mum's tea would fix. He's afraid if he crawls back into bed he might do something silly like cry about it, because it's past ten at home and his parents will be asleep and he's not even sure calling would fix it anyway.
"You can come in," Oscar calls when Lando finally does knock.
He's sat propped against his pillows in bed, paperback folded open on his knee and blinds drawn shut. Lando's fairly sure his lit class is the one Oscar's just come from, but it would be like him to do the homework immediately after.
"You okay?"
Lando realizes a minute late that he's just been standing. Just staring. He swallows around the oblong feeling and pulls his sweatshirt sleeves over his hands so Oscar won't see him worrying them.
"Yeah," he answers eventually, "Just. It's snowing."
Oscar smiles, says, "Is it?"
He can't reach the window from his bed, so Lando crosses the room for him and pulls the curtains back so he can see - so they both can.
It's snowed every winter they've been in university, and this is Oscar's fourth. He really should be used to it, but his smile is just as awed as Lando still remembers it being freshman year, when they were crowded together around their shared bedroom window, tucked in together over the weekend holiday all of their classmates had gone home for.
"Perfect reading weather, then," Oscar says, settling back against his pillows.
Lando should go. He should nurse the weird, sad feeling with a hot shower, or something, and not by bothering his roommate-and-something-more-too when he's trying to study.
"Can I sit with you?" he says instead.
Oscar smiles. His, "of course," comes out like there weren't even other answers he'd considered.
He's warm when Lando curls up at his side. He's still got the book propped open against his knee and he goes easily when Lando nudges up under his arm and props his cheek against the ball of Oscar's shoulder.
"What's your book about?" Lando asks.
"Um," Oscar lifts it to show Lando the cover like that'll help, that plonks it back down like he's realized it won't. "This orphan girl, bit of an outcast. It's like a coming-of-age thing, I think, I'm not too far into it."
His fingers trace absently along the strip of skin where Lando's hoodie has ridden up at his waist, and it makes Lando shiver.
"Will you read it to me?"
"Yeah. You might be a bit lost, though," Oscar thumbs through the pages he's already been through like an explanation.
Lando doesn't say he'd probably be lost even if he'd read those, too. That it's not about the story, really. He thinks Oscar probably knows.
"S'okay," he says.
"Okay." Oscar turns his head enough that his lips brush Lando's forehead. Lando can't tell if it's on purpose.
Oscar's got a nice voice. Lando thinks he could probably fall asleep to it, and he wonders if he'd wake up without the knot in his chest, whether the bittersweet fog over his thoughts would have lifted. Maybe the snow would have stopped by then, even, maybe it'd all be melted.
Lando yawns into Oscar's chest as he flips a page, and Oscar pauses for a second to turn his head again. This time, his lips press more firmly at outside corner of Lando's eye, where he knows he's still got a pillow crease working its way out after his nap.
"Snowy weather is a bit sleepy, innit?" Oscar says, softer than the tone he'd been using to read with, "Peaceful and stuff."
Lando looks back out the window, where it's gotten heavier - big, wet flakes that stick to the glass and leave trails when they slide slowly down towards the frame.
"I think I'll miss it if I move back home after graduation," Oscar continues, voice sounding a bit like Lando's insides feel. Lando doesn't want to think about it.
Oscar goes back to the book. His hand is warm on Lando's hip, voice warm in Lando's ears, and Lando wonders if someday, down the road, Oscar will wake up to snow showers and think of this moment.

Today I learned that the Pope has the right to appoint secret cardinals, and even the cardinals themselves may not realize that they now have a new position. Popes have the right to make the name public at any time, but if the Pope dies before the Cardinal's name is made public, the individual ceases to be a Cardinal.
Yes, Catholicism is weird.
But more importantly, there is only one person in the world who can prove that I am not a cardinal.

I wanted to ask about the translation of Kyoto part 7– on pg 14-15 Sano thinks to himself (in your version) "Then, I'll be able to see his smile again" but in the officials, it says "If I just do that, then he should smile again". Do you know what's up with the translation difference here?
Tumblr media
So the line in jp is "そうすればまたアツは / 笑ってくれるはず…"
Breaking it down:
そうすれば sousureba: if i do that, in that case
また mata: again
アイツ aitsu: he
笑って waratte: smile
くれる kureru: give, do
はず hazu: probably, should
tbh both lines have the same core idea don't they? (conditional -> he smiles)
though at the time i translated this chapter i was still mostly only looking at the chinese tl and only referencing the jp for the -san's and the -kun's
the chinese tl somewhat amplifies the "kureru" part, it words it as "展露笑容" ("show (a) smile") which i think i interpreted as having way more weight on the act of "showing" which implies a recipient (and "kureru" kinda implies recipient too)
really i probably also didn't want to accidentally lose any words or nuance and rather chose to double down on it

"Of course, you play D&D, ToBP! I knew I liked you. Side-note, I LOVE D&D, and I want to hear all about your D&D adventures. Collaborative storytelling, gah, nothing is better!"
Oh? Well, my players circumvented a battle with bad guys that was being built up (in real time) for about a month and they even managed to get a dragon friend they made to join since these bad guys also were enemies of this dragon. Then, when they arrived at where the bad guys were hiding out, one of them realized that they had several pounds of gunpowder in there inventory, so they chucked that in the hideout and it was enough to destroy the top level of the building, obliterated all of the bad guys' minions, and left the surviving pair of bad guys on such low health that another player took them out with a single shot. The remaining bad guy just kinda looked around at the mess, did a bit of villainous posturing (these beings practically refuse to acknowledge that they could ever be vulnerable or at the mercy of 'lessers', but they do fear the potential of death and oblivion more than anything) and then teleported the **** out of there because they knew staying to fight would accomplish nothing other than result in their own demise.
I was laughing hysterically throughout narrating all of this to my players. Best part was that the dragon arrived moments later after having heard the explosion to see the party just casually picking through the rubble and remaining for clues on what the bad guys were up to. Needless to say, the dragon was confused, mildly concerned, and perhaps a bit disappointed once he learned he'd missed the action (he REALLY hated this particular group of bad guys for what they did).
I ended up stealthily beefing up the next combat encounter with these villains that came soon after and had the dragon decide to tag along despite him initially planning not to because, as much as I loved how the above mentioned encounter played out and the players were super proud of themselves, a few of the players admitted they were kinda sad that it meant they didn't get to have a combat session or fight alongside their dragon friend. I made sure they got to have both. 🤗
You really have to love it when your players solve a problem rather brilliantly or creatively, and you have to honor that! I love that you not only did that, but then gave them the combat that they wanted later too! I know that D&D is telling a story, but it's also a game, and everyone's job is to try to make sure everyone else is having a good time. Your table sounds like a great time!
I just had D&D this morning, and our party is currently dead. Several sessions ago, Chris (my teacher bestie who I mention here a fair bit) got the TPK he always wanted (and clearly planned meticulously for). So we've been sent to a place called The Dead Paths, and we are currently attempting to escape. We woke up with NONE of our armor/weapons/magic. So that was cool. Once we solved the puzzle of getting out of the castle we were stuck in (had to enter into an employment contract with the weird resident, I'm sure that won't come back to bite us in the ass), we met a truly awful dude named, The Hoarder. For the small price of just one significant memory, he could return all our stuff to us. So, we each had to give up a memory, and some of us gave up more for additional information about how to get out. My poor echo knight fighter continues to go through it.

btw reminder that 988/678678 is not a good or safe line and has not been for some time. they have hung up on people, called police & other carceral forces on people, & given bigoted or just rude/out-of-touch responses to people. funding to it has also been cut which means these issues will only be exacerbated. do not continue to spread or refer people to it. there are other hotlines that exist, please try to learn about them if you want to help your suicidal friends.

hi! sorry to bother you but I wanted to ask— is it ever mentioned in any of the LNs what happened to loulan's ladies in waiting? i assumed they were just dismissed from the inner court like everyone related to fengming was back in s1, especially since its implied only a few of them really knew the plan and i checked the fourth LN but I couldn't find any mention of it so i just wanted to ask
I dont think it ever was tbh
Something we're gonna have to assume ourselves, which, considering the gravity of the crimes they've committed, it's highly possible they're either executed or at the very least locked in jail cell somewhere
Mutilation (in such case like Luomen's) is also possible.
It wasn't their fault, not entirely at least. But they still helped a consort escaped, and considering the fact how Maomao often mentioned how easy it is to disregard a servant's life...yeah not looking good for them😬
