23:32 || ༻`` 2 June — Monday
57 days of productivity, 40/57
The Sci Journal has a new entry!! A Brief History of Time written by @hyacinth-dancing-in-rain !
The article dives down into the different types of clocks through the ages, why they were used, their mechanics and operation, and other fun/interesting details!!
And a quick website update: Due to technical issues, images will no longer appear in articles from 02/06/25 until the issue is resolved. At some point in the summer of 2025, The Sci Journal will change website platforms and with it its domain link.
Notice will be provided at the change and when the new website is available to view
But anyway,
Today I've procrastinated quite a bit, but after 2hrs 13 I finished a marh past paper and went through the stats half of the textbook, noting down any formulas and important details which has been really helpful already! I'm postponing the second past paper I was meant to do today for tm.
Today I also journalled, drew (I forget how much I love colouring pencils and the pieces I make from them!) and watched another episode of Noughts and Crosses — which I'm absolutely in love with!!!! It's based off of a book series that I also adored and it has taken me a few years to actually find where I can watch this series for free! And when reading the books I never considered the cultural effects and influence from Africa that the idea would being so it has been amazing visualisation also!! I think I've only got 2 episodes left tho :( (I know what it's all leading up to 😭)

The year is 3069. Or at least you think it is. It certainly was when you fell asleep. But how long have you been asleep? You don't know. You lost your consciousness and then there was pitch black darkness... until you woke up.
You scout your spaceship that's floating in Space like a boat trailing across the oceans with no captain. Are your comrades dead? Are you dead? The only thing you can trust: the AI of the ship. You remember them. And when you say „Hello?” the screen of the huge monitor in the command room lights up. You see a familiar face.
„Hello,” the voice replies.
It's only you and the AI. You used to trust it with your life.
Can you trust it now?
hi everyone! my new solo-journaling rpg game is up for download on itch.io for free!!! if you're new to sjrpg, do not worry, its not complicated to play. all you need is two dice, a deck of playing cards, and a journal. its very simple and its all explained in the booklet.
the game explores relationship between you and a sentient motherboard AI (who grows attached and attached) and horrors that might await you. anyway, check it out, leave a comment, give some feedback. it wont be free forever ;P

im back to dcst fixation with the new season so im rewatching. i remembered how much i like senku's principle of how humanities, arts and sciences aren't so far apart. i like that he thinks of course it more logical to care for people and that no matter how weird you are, science has room for you. it's curiosity for curiosity's sake. a different kind of greed.

@pulpmusicalsfortnight2024 day one: science
it seemed fitting to focus on the Urania Propitia trio for this prompt, so here's Anna, Rose, and Margaret occupied by an issue of the American Journal of Science and Arts (as it was called at the time), which was founded in 1818 and is still running today! this piece was heavily inspired by this painting by George Harcourt.
(pictures of the full painting are under the cut)

Had quite an epic dream last night, though much of it is rather jumbled in my memory by now. BUT the clearest memory stood out enough for me to try and illustrate the main character!
A sprite based on how they appear in Artemis Fowl, super badass but kept by an SCP Foundation style organization until she managed to escape and gets on the run. Chased after by agents from the organization wanting their fairy specimen back.
Pretty happy how I got the design down based on a dream. I oughta give her a name maybe.
Anyways, enjoy

My artistic side is not lost in the world of science!
My art featuring antibiotics that slow down or dissolve domains in bacteria membranes was selected as the cover of the latest Nano Letters issue! The cover art combines hand-drawn bacteria and 3D rendered atomic force microscopy images of bacteria membranes.
My process of drawing and shading the coccus bacteria:

And the final cover:

I had a great time thinking about the concept of this cover, drawing the bacteria, making the 3D bacteria membrane views from my AFM data, and putting everything together. It was a great creative work, although it was under a stressful deadline for the manuscript resubmission including the cover art suggestion.

I'm this year's Wyoming Arts Council Creative Writing Fellow for Nonfiction! I applied with a writing sample taken from the "pets" chapter of my upcoming book, Carcass: On the Afterlives of Animal Bodies. That means that a formal arts organization recognizes the value of writing about dead animals!
As the book wraps up, I'm looking for more freelance work and story ideas about animals, dead or alive, so I can do some more writing during the fellowship. They require fellows to do some sort of service related to nonfiction writing, like perhaps giving a talk about TikTok For Writers at the Jackson Hole Writers Conference.

Character Building Questions (pt3)
-follow me on tiktok: @sunnytingz69 for ur fav character edits & help me hit 1K so i can livestream games, book streams, n more
1. who is in their social circle? Write a short story or scene and what your character is in their regular group, but it's doing something out of the ordinary – skinny dipping, visiting a psychic to have their tea leaves, read or even eating at a new restaurant. have a stranger join them and discover how your character response.
2. how well educated is your character? Write a story in which the effects are communication with others as well as their social standing and future prospects.
3. Write fictional children's story that an adult told your character as they were growing up. Should be and original – something that the adult character made up for your character; i.e. their mother made up a story where your character was a famous magician, a lion tamer, a mermaid.
4. is your character an introvert or an extrovert? Write a short scene and what they need to be the opposite of who they are, and show how this challenges them.

Something silly for the trio as I think about them encountering a cactuar out in the wilds. Well, more specifically a gigantuar. Here we have: Has taken many a needle before and is very afraid, the one who physically can't feel fear but knows exactly what's about to happen, and a freshly prepared tank who is about to get pin cushioned for the first time in his life.
