HP-01 (1977)
Hewlett-Packard
The Hewlett-Packard HP-01 is a calculator watch. It was designed and manufactured by Hewlett-Packard.
The HP-01's digital display used 7 light-emitting diodes (LEDs)/digit in a 7-digit + decimal point arrangement. Introduced in 1977, at the height of the LED watch craze, it had five models: two gold-filled and three stainless.
Prices ranged from $450 & $550 for the low-end steel or gold to $850 (the equivalent of $2200 to $4200 in 2023 dollars).
HP also sold a battery replacement kit that allowed customers to change the batteries themselves. The watch uses two batteries for the display and one for the processor IC. It also comes with a ballpoint pen with a stylus on the rear end. Most of the 28 buttons on the HP-01 are recessed and designed to be depressed with a stylus stored in the band.
The production was stopped by the end of 1979.

Spiralbound Jabberblocky
This is my concept for a weapon (and a new weapon class) for Splatoon! It's inspired by a spiralbound notebook and ballpoint pen! The weapons works as a sword/rapier and shield combo!
Basic controls for the Jabberblocky weapon class: ZR tap = Shield bash. (It's like a horisontal roller flick in range, spread shot instead of long range) ZR hold = Shield bash + the shield is deployed (Like when you deploy a brella, it shoots ink first and then makes a shield that also inks the ground. Shield is maybe on par with undercover brella hitbox, maybe somewhat skinnier. The shield always stays with you, doesn't shoot away!) ZR hold + B + directional input = Accurate sword jab + player lunges forward (like a charged Splatana attack, but the sword isn't swung. It's thrust forward!) B + ZR = Inaccurate sword jab (Works like vertical roller flick, long range instead of spread shot. Has the same property as Shooters, Blasters, Dualies and Splatlings, with the projectile(s) being less accurate when jumping) B + ZR + directional input = Inaccurate sword jab + player lunges forward
So yeah, its like a Roller, Splatana and Brella blended into one. What it might gain in versatility is maybe balanced out by the shields and damage being more middlin. The hitboxes for the shield and ink attacks being smaller on average than their more specialized counterparts might make up for it??? Idk, I'm not great at balancing.
Ideas for future Jabberblockys: (under the cut)
Silly Slush Jabberblocky - The shield is based a slushy cup with a colorful slushy. (When you run out of ink/the shield is destroyed, the cup will look empty. Also inspired by the curved roman shields!) The sword/rapier is based on a silly/crazy straw! (The ink pattern it leaves can be wacky! Maybe even kinda random??)
Duel Screen Jabberblocky - The shield is based on the Nintendo DS, when the shield is deployed the DS opens up to a two part shield (maybe drawn in Pictochat or Flipnote Studio). The sword/rapier is the stylus! (You can take som design inspiration from the Styler from Pokemon Ranger??)
Dirk-away Jabberblocky - The shield is based on a round hand soap bottle. The sword/rapier is the soap pump but also mixed with a bubble wand! (They can re-use the Bloblobber projectiles. They've already basically re-used the Explosher projectiles for crab tank.)
Splatula Jabberblocky - The shield based on a frying pan and the sword/rapier on a spatula. (In lore this is after there have been peace talks, trade deals and cultural exchange between Inkadia and the salmonids for a while. Salmon runs is mostly just a combat sport now, which like in Bonerattle arena have audiences, but no real death. Inkfish are inspired by the combat style of salmonids and salmonids share some of their weapons with them, just as inkfish share their technology with them now. OR the situation is the same as in Splatoon 3 and the inkfish are doing cultural appropriation!)
Recephion Jabberblocky - (you know those pens that are chained to their stands that are at front desks and at banks? Those.) The shield is the stand (like a buckler shield) The sword/rapier is the pen that's chained to the stand (Its sword jab would have longer range, maybe the inkling/octoling would even throw it!)
(I also have vauge ideas for a broom and dustpan jabberblocky, but I'm not sure about the name, concept or if it's even "Splatoon-y" enough of an inspiration... Then I have a idea for a octo-boss tentacle jabberblocky, with a lightbulb shield. Idk if that's too wild tho... I would definetly include lore about how to best care for that kind of living sword!!! To let it play with braille rubix cubes and other handheld puzzles, as well as letting it taste different foods and stuff, since irl octopuses can taste with their tentacles!)

Sometimes I remember I can draw and like... BAM! Drawing! (More of a sketch but whatever) I prefer trad drawing for sketches, but if I want color, then I go digital. I hate the stylus I have tho
Also, ftm mav⁉️ (I actually just wanted to draw top surgery scars 😔)
I need to get a pen that isn't a ballpoint cause... well, random blotches of ink when I'm drawing is annoying.

this is. so fucking stupid
i put way too much effort into this
edit: picture formatting
transcription/image ID and more under the cut
[panel one: Error is looking at blue, who is in the foreground about to eat a brownie with a very wide open mouth, with horror. his hands are on either side of his head.]
Error: oh no! Blue’s gonna eat that WEED BROWNIE!
[panel two: Error eats the brownie, accompanied by the word CHOMP. Blue watches with surprise.]
[panel three: Blue is grinning, while Error looks very distressed, holding his hands in front of him.]
Blue: wow Error! did you just eat my forever weed brownie? [the words forever weed brownie are in green.]
Error: it was the only way to-
[Error cuts himself off, and the next panel displays him looking like a photorealistic skeleton, a vast contrast from the extremely round and simplistic style of the previous panels.]
Error: w h a t [the word what, spaced out for dramatic effect]
[end comic transcription]

anyway yeah i’m getting back into traditional art at least for the time being since i can’t find my damn stylus. this is the first page in my new sketchbook
[image ID: a sketchbook page, featuring several doodles. in the top left, there is a cute bunny man holding up a peace sign, winking, and smiling with his mouth open. he is on a neon orange background, drawn with purple ballpoint pen, with the caption “WAOW!”. next to this, in the top right, is a simplistic drawing of a lavender bush, colored with bright purple and green markers. below the bunny man are three small doodles of various expressions. one looks concerned and a little disgusted, captioned “yeesh”. the second is a somewhat curious looking one with its eyes popping out of its head, captioned “idk”. the third and final expression is a top down view of a face with very large sparkling eyes, captioned “forced to eat cement at age six”. the bottom half of the page features the comic transcribed above, with numbers and arrows clarifying the order of events. end sketchbook page transcription]
one final block of text to round out the post: i’m doing image descriptions/transcriptions now! i gave up on alt text a while ago, because it was such a pain to format and difficult to work with for me, and i forgot that i have free will and can type that information in the actual post. please let me know how i did! accessibility is important to me, so if my descriptions are lacking in any way or could stand to be improved, i would so so appreciate it if you could tell me what to do to improve! thanks!

3 and 26 for the ask game?
(referring to this ask game)
3. Your favorite piece(s)?
Oh man... as insecure as I am about how it turned out, my current favorite piece is probably that one Narilamb drawing I did. I tried to go ham with how much I could feel embarrassed by a single piece, and I think it served to turn out pretty good as a result of that authenticity!
26. What do you physically draw with (pencil and paper, tablet, etc)?
Most days I use an old iPad and Apple Pencil that I've had for years, but I'm trying to switch over to an android tablet and stylus so I don't have to worry about Apple being trigger happy with nuking my iPad via mandatory updates like they have done to previous devices in the past.
However, when I'm drawing traditionally, I use a notebook intended for bullet journaling and one of two pens— one of them is a 0.7 pen that's perfect for buttery smooth drawing with bold lines, and the other is a 0.3 pen that's amazing for getting scratchy lineart and fine details down. They make for very different styles, and work a lot better for me than the cheap blue ink ballpoint pens I've accidentally stolen from the bank.

I am planning to draw Yumemi Okazaki and Chiyuri Kitashirakawa next as a remake.
Yesterday was my twice-weekly gym day, and I presented the gym president with some hassaku (scientific name: Citrus hassaku is a member of the citrus family and a member of the citrus family native to Innoshima, Hiroshima Prefecture. ) and summer oranges from the orchard in the my home backyard.
The gym president has long suffered from diabetes and does not like sweets, but since I often see japanese orange peels left on his desk at the office, I thought he would not mind eating the fruit.
As a result, he was very pleased and put both of them in the large business bag he always carries with him.
He also gave me three ballpoint pens as a thank-you, one of which was a multi-functional ballpoint pen with an oil-based ballpoint pen, a smartphone stylus, and even an LED light.
I am very grateful☺️

World Building: Writing
Not writing about world building, world building about writing.
Letters are based on the tools used to write them. Calligraphy looks the way it does because someone worked out how to gently cook feathers, trim them, cut a nib and a surface tension reservoir and then write on paper or parchment: But you have to drag the nib in specific ways or it spreads and dumps all the ink onto the page, or it catches and flicks ink everywhere.
When the metal dip-pen showed up it was a game changer allowing for finer lines and less blobby letters. Fountain pens meant you could write continuously and not need to carry a pen wiper. Dip pens were in use up until the 1950s in some schools. My mother recalls them. This is mostly the still common mindset of 'We should avoid this new-fangled thing that happened in my lifestime until we're sue it's not going away if we ignore it' - The same reason that turning in coursework using a ballpoint was sneered at up until the late 1990s: Fountain pen or lose marks for insufficiently good penmanship. Handing in work printed out form a word processor got you marked down because "You won't have a computer or printer everywhere you go"
Pressing a stylus into wax or clay isn't great for small defined curves, so Cuniform looks like a small bird danced up and down your tablet.
Chinese and Japanese looks the way it does because brushes were used allowing for stroke variation.
So when you're imagining how someone writes, start by asking: What do they write with? Do they have different letters for writing on flexible stuff vs. Using clay or stone? Ask a roman what their ink-on-parchment was like and compare with their carved letters. They're surprisingly different. Not just in form: They abbreviated!
For example - I'll use English because my Latin is terrible:
Spoken (Colloquial): Kicked their arses.
Written (Pithy, more formal, but still snarky as hell): Came. Saw. Conquered.
Carved: Came. Saw. Conq'rd
Because carving is hard and also you might run out of stone. Even in English we have two levels: Informal spoken, and a more rigid and formalised written style, which still evolves rapidly.
Now imagine that applied to Elvish, or Klingon, or your own OC where a note is very differently laid out to spoken words, and is superbly different to some carved stuff from a few centuries back.
The example is a retcon: Yoda speaks weird because 900 years earlier, galactic standard had different grammar and he's essentially sitting there talking like someone from the 12th century laboriously trying not to rattle off something in Olde English in front of the youngsters.
Side note: Yoda is obviously a Vampire: Supernatural powers, nearly a thousand years old, he hangs around with Werewolves Wookies and you never see him eating garlic bread, and when he dies he turns to dust. I mean... come on.

[Image Description: a blue ink/rubber stylus hybrid ballpoint pen that says "Paychex" on it. End I.D]
I swear to God my little pickle flavored cotton candy bucket full of scribble pens (meaning, usable but not great for writing or art, just there to jot down quick notes) is just a spawn point for random pens to manifest into existence. I've never heard of this company before, let alone visit it. The hell did I get this from??

Oh. The chibi is huge….. ANYWAY!!! OC Info dump part 2!!!
Jazz!!! He’s giggling his signature giggle ((Kekeke)) which is the best I can get for a fox’s laugh.
So, Twisted Wonderland is basically “What if Disney Villains weren’t as bad as the films made them out to be? MC gets pulled into this magical Twisted Wonderland and has to deal with these powerful and talented yet dysfunctional boys while they search for a way to get back home” it’s a rhythm/RPG battle visual novel. It’s made by the same author as Black Butler, if you know that anime.
The outfit in the chibi is what Jazz wears as his ‘casual’ outfit in the Devildom. It also has a matching jacket and many pockets! He keeps his magic-pen, which is a fancy ballpoint pen that has an enchanted emerald on the clip and a stylus at the end, ((basically his magic focus)) in the breast pocket of the vest or the jacket depending on if he has the jacket or not. In Nightbringer he adds a pair of black and white gloves, which are like artist drawing gloves for screen drawing tablets. So pinky and ring finger and that half of the palm are black while the rest is white.
He LOVES to make clothes, so much that was what he chose to make a sustainable business out of as the requirement to get access to his family’s wealth. ((5 times great grandma started a brewery that has become world famous, Grandma Takara is also the reason he’s not human, more on that later)) Will absolutely make stuff for Asmo and Levi if they ask him. his favorite fabric to work with is canvas and so he’s really strong for his small size. He can pick up demon form!Diavolo if he wants. He also really wants to make the dress from that one sticker for Dia, as he thinks Dia would absolutely rock it. ((Don’t ask Jazz to wear that dress as the frills to non-frills ratio is too high for Jazz’s tastes))
Speaking of Diavolo: won’t act on his crushes because his brain is mean >:( thinks that this prince and future king can do better than a humble tailor. And thinks that he’d fuck up the friendship they have by trying to romance him. Also thinks that being romantically involved with a literal prince would be too much of a spotlight ((ignoring the fact that dating the brothers and Solomon already puts a huge spotlight on him….)) ((same reasoning why he would not act on his crush on Barbatos)) But he really admires Dia. It will take somebody noticing the wistful stares and sighs and forcing them talk ((person: hey, Jasper, Diavolo, come to this dinner with me. Oh wait, I actually have plans but I don’t want the reservation to go to waste, so have fun you two!! ☺️))
So, the ‘human enough’. Grandma Takara wasn’t human at all. She was a fox fae from Twisted Wonderland that found herself on Earth and couldn’t get back home. She was basically a kitsune from Japanese mythology. And at the start of Jazz’s adventures he was 98% human, 2% fox fae. Then during Twisted the human and fox fae flipped, so he’s now 98% fox fae, 2% human. Which is just enough human for pacts and Earth sorcery to work.
Because of the kitsune stuff: he’s allergic to tomatoes. If he has them, then he’s in the bathroom for the next hour. Is a shapeshifter, but prefers to keep the form he had to begin with ((except for the female bits, those got shifted away to being male ASAFP)) but will change for pranks or safety.
Loves pranks, lives by the ‘confuse, don’t abuse’ motto ((has used a vodka bottle for a water bottle, has use chocolate syrup bottle for a water bottle, eaten vanilla pudding out of a mayo jar etc.))
HATES being underwater without a viable source of air, be that potions, spells, scuba gear, or just straight up shapeshifting himself some gills. So when in the Aquarium Event they all swam to the source of the poison, he was internally going “I hate this. I hate this. I am so glad for magic.”
Ending on a positive note: is poly lingual. Can speak native Japanese, English, German and French. And can add to that with a bit of magic, just straight up copies what the person knows about the language. So, he copied Celestial from Beel.
OMG so much loooore!!
Okay I'm so into the fox fae situation a;sldkfjdf.
He's just a mischievous little guy with a big ole crush on a demon prince!! I would be their wingperson. Let me be the one who's like oh oops I planned plans on top of my plans have fun see ya!!! LOL that's so cute though. I get why he would feel that way.
I love that he's a tailor and makes stuff for Asmo and Levi too!
I too am allergic to tomatoes alsdklfjf no not really but the only food I don't like is raw tomatoes. I don't know why 😭
Anyway, I love him he sounds so cute~ Thank you for sharing him with me!!
