As an omori fictive, thank god someone is actually talking about how bad fanon can get. A lot of the time, it feels like we're not looking at the same characters? They took the surface level idea of a character, for example, basil either a. Turning him into an uwu softboy or turning him into this yandere demon incarnate. It's just extremely puzzling to me personally. This blog genuinely feels like a fresh breath of air. 🔪

I haven’t seen a lot of people talk about how bad fanon BASIL can actually be, or how bad fanon can actually be in general as well. AUBREY is dumbed down to this tsundere who likes SUNNY and is a girlboss because of bullying BASIL (while not acknowledging that she was actually a shitty person towards BASIL and that he genuinely suffered) or this sort of “strong girlboss who hates everyone and is just mean”, KEL is boiled down to this happy guy who’s always positive and has no issues at all with his emotions or his life, HERO is watered down into this malewife who isn’t at all flawed in anyway. SUNNY…. he isn’t watered down as bad but the problem is that he’s portrayed as this who isn’t scared of things like horror while making BASIL the guy scared of horror, even though SUNNY is the one who runs away from things when they get slightly unpleasant and is also the one who a. almost Drowned in a bathtub (HIKIKOMORI route) and b. the guy who panicked just because of a spider and almost drowned in the lake because of it. (As for post-truth/game… I mean this in a type of way that he’s tolerant but doesn’t exactly like it at times). He’s also portrayed as this cool and somewhat masculine “emo” guy (while making BASIL this soft feminine “uwu” guy) which is just…. egrh. And then there’s also the making SUNNY “normal” and BASIL obsessed with him even though SUNNY is the one who memorized his favorite food, favorite smoothie, etc.

… and Yeah. Whenever I see those portrayals I just go “….Is this really them?”. I shudder whenever I see BASIL portrayed as either of those because that is not my guy. He is not an evil and manipulative monster nor is he a soft uwu crybaby and scared of everything. He’s just a person who went through shit.

had to think about this one for a bit. i admittedly given absolutely zero thought before to mega evolution in pmd lmao

basil doesn't even normal evolve for quite awhile after the main story. they were always in a rush to grow up and evolve so they could join the expedition society but after the epilogue they realized they wanted to just chill and actually be a kid/teen for awhile

so i was going to say that they wouldn't be huge on megaing. they're chill with normal lucario they don't need to go further. but then i realized no they would absolutely still think a temporary powered up form is cool as hell. there's no way they wouldn't at least try it out

and then i drew a hypothetical mega basil for fun and that really solidified it. oops i love them. mega basil canon now

Zoro choking on his drink as watches Sanji lift a marine by the throat which makes Usopp and Nami giggle at him. Gin falling for him as he eats the best food he's ever had in his whole fucking life that's keeping him from starving to death. Luffy falls in love with the way he talks about the All Blue and cares about his job and others. He's so fucking kind.

Ace falls for the guy who takes care of the others and doesn't let guests work, who spoils the handful of a little brother he has. Sir Crocodile who thinks the blond is cute and clever, who set up chances for his captain to save the crew and then him. Koza who sees how well he's taken care of his princess and the help he's given to take back Alabasta. He still insists on helping to serve and cook and Cobra is giving Koza knowing looks that make him flush and avert his eyes from the king and the cook.

Maybe it's after the time skip, after Dressrosa when Barto is literally drooling over the 'ONLY ALIVE' poster that Law is flustered and asking Luffy and Zoro about the cook. They're staring at him as Robin is giggling to herself because they are possessive. Both of them. It's the Monster Trio. Sanji is oblivious. Both of them are grumbling about Sanji not seeing their obvious interest but it's Sanji. If someone doesn't hit him over the head with a four by four he's not going to take the hint. Ask all of Tashigi's men from Punk Hazard who were crying at the cook not taking their advances. Okay maybe he just needs to be beaten with said four by four. Pedro straight up sacrifices himself for Sanji and Sanji only feels bad he's dead and that his life ended coming to get him.

You got the rest of the North Blue Boys who are obsessing over Stealth Black and Law feels like throwing up if it wouldn't insult the cook, he's so fucking excited. Luffy is over the fucking moon to see it in action. Yamato looking at Sanji from across the party and Luffy asks him what's up and he's just like Law with the whole 'the cook' thing. MARCO KNOWS better, he knows how to make an impression so at one point he's just talking to Sanji and Sanji keeps looking between Marco and whatever he thinks he needs to be doing so Marco just lightly grabs Sanji's chin and says it's rude to not focus on the person you're talking with. Sanji is so red and stuttering as Luffy wraps a rubber arm around Sanji screaming for meat as Sanji is ripped from in front of Marco to like the other side of the room.

Maybe it would end with zolusan or whatever the ship is called. Zoro asks if they have to do what Marco did after all the flirting he and Luffy have been doing for all of their sailing together and Sanji just being confused at what they're talking about.

finally someone else whos insane about the fact that even when one of isabeaus closest friends rips into every one of his worst insecurities he wont even get outwardly mad or upset about it. where am i!! its so dark!!!

the thing that really gets me is that isa is like OBVIOUSLY fucking upset. but it feels like hes stunned to silence more than anything. and when he does retaliate its all very... contained. hes hurt and angry and sad but it all comes off as really mild. especially compared to the rest of the party like. (shoutout script project) look at everyone elses reactions to siffrin.

aaaand. now look at isa.

HE FUCKING. AGREES. he makes no effort to fight siffrin, act like the things theyve said arent true. and of course he goes on to fire back ('at least im trying to change. unlike some people here.) but its so...... nothing. its so not a thing compared to everyone elses reactions. everyone else is BIG. even odile, who shows an incredible amount of self restraint by not fucking bodying siffrin for what he says to her, is more angry than we ever see her anywhere else in the game.

all of them are the most angry we see them in the game! other than maybe bonnie!!! but isas angry is so much smaller than everyone elses! isas angry is one comment. he doesnt raise a fist, he doesnt slap or grab or scream, he says 'unlike some people here'. and then he leaves.

a part of me wonders if he ends the conversation there because he knows he would blow up if it went on any longer. if that crack in his facade, that leaking in of genuine anger, was too close for comfort. so he runs away. because siffrin is right: isabeau is a coward.

Another thing I've realized personally is that a lot of people hate how morally gray everyone is. so in their mind, there has to be a bad guy, and it depends on the sections omocord tends to blame basil while omotwt blames sunny for it. It's just kinda interesting to see, especially like for fanfictions. You can see where I guess they "belong". 🔪

Yeah!! I’m also not a fan on how the OMORI fandom tends to paint BASIL and SUNNY as bad guys (they do tend to go heavier on BASIL on omoreddit and omocord certain parts of omotwt which is…) despite how both of the two were just really troubled kids at the time of the incident and didn’t know what exactly to do and how to handle the situations and their guilt. Both of them are morally gray characters who have both done something wrong, but are not exactly bad people for it. Which is what people in the fandom (namely most of omoreddit, omocord, and a part of omotwt) do tend to not acknowledge. How people handle the reactions of the others is really interesting since it does tell how they interpret the character and how they interpret the severity of BASIL and SUNNY’s actions.
