love. the opening notes of this song are so, so lavender purple, and the lyrics are very silver. those of you who have read my wonwoo synaesthesia post know how important that is to me. but it's also so gentle, almost relaxed, in its message of love, like faces melting into smiles that lift up the lips almost of their own accord.

gold. the drums at the beginning with their syncopated beats is so delicious and basically sold this song as woozi-coded to me. but also the conviction and the determination and self-confidence is so present in this song. it makes me think of bronze coloured pedestals and nameless faces in a crowd but also immense sense of self-assuredness.

light. it reminds me of some watercolour-style animated movie with no dialogue, only music, and changing sceneries of watercolor people living in a watercolor world. it's whimsical, but not quite. it's dreamy, but only almost. nevertheless, it's romantic, devastatingly so, and promises care and affection like no other.

so real. can't explain this one tbh. it starts off so chill and minghao-esque, but it makes me think of mingyu too bc this man is so perceptive and very feeling and very very empathetic. and then the crescendo into a jazzy instrumental outro? it's so so mingyu in the busy-ness of it and the swirling colours and brightness and desire to be perceived but also to be perceived well.

we're talking about the real, lived-in, day-to-day experience. the stuff that doesn't always make it into the pamphlets. this is for the newly diagnosed, the self-diagnosed, the questioning, and the allies who genuinely want to get it.

this is the infodump you've been looking for. it's about what it actually feels like to navigate a world that wasn't built for your brain's operating system.

we're diving deep into the social weirdness, the sensory chaos, the internal logic, and all the "plus ones" that tag along for the ride. this is the real tea.

okay, let's get into it.

1. Socializing on Hard Mode? Nah, Just a Different OS.

one of the biggest things people associate with autism is being "socially awkward." and yeah, the vibes can be off sometimes, but it's not a deficit. it's a difference.

imagine everyone else is running on Windows and you're running on Linux. both are powerful operating systems, but they don't always run the same programs or use the same commands. that's the autistic social experience in a nutshell.

The whole nonverbal cues thing is a lot.

neurotypicals have this whole second conversation happening underneath the words. it's in the eye contact, the little smiles, the tone shifts, the way they're standing. for an autistic brain, that's like trying to watch a movie while reading the subtitles in a different language and listening to a podcast at the same time. it's just too much data.

eye contact? it can feel physically painful. like someone is staring directly into your soul. it's not about being shy or dishonest. sometimes we have to look away to actually hear what you're saying.

"Why are you so literal?" bc why would you say something you don't mean?

the neurotypical world is built on a foundation of things people don't actually mean. "let's grab coffee sometime" is a social placeholder, not a plan. "that's an interesting idea" can mean "i hate it but i'm being polite."

for us, words often mean what they mean. we take things at face value. this can lead to us being seen as blunt or even rude, when really, we're just being direct and honest. we're not trying to start drama; we're trying to communicate clearly.

Friendship, but make it autistic.

we absolutely want friends and deep connections. but the way we build them is different. forget small talk. it's a painful, pointless ritual.

real connection happens over special interests. you like the deep lore of a specific fantasy series? i can talk about it for five hours straight. that's friendship. it's built on a shared passion and genuine, unfiltered enthusiasm.

this is based on a concept called monotropism: the autistic brain's tendency to have a very focused, tunnel-vision attention system. when we're into something (or someone), we are really into it.

Social Life Hacks: For Us & Our Allies

If You're an Ally: Just Say What You Mean

Be Direct, Pls: skip the sarcasm, idioms, and hints. it's a kindness. instead of "wow, the trash is really full," try "can you please take out the trash?" it removes the mental gymnastics.

Assume Good Intentions: if we seem blunt or don't make eye contact, it's not a personal attack. we're probably just being honest or trying to concentrate. assume we're doing our best.

Ask About Communication: some of us are way better over text than on the phone. asking "what's the best way to chat with you?" is a huge sign of respect for our processing needs.

If You're Autistic: Find Your People

Scripting is Valid: it's okay to have pre-planned lines for common situations (ordering food, answering the phone). it's not being fake; it's a smart way to save your precious brain energy. it's a life hack.

Lean Into Your Spinterests: your special interests are a beacon. online forums, discord servers, clubs, conventions that's where you'll find other people who get it. your people are out there.

Self-Advocacy is a Vibe: it's okay to say, "hey, i'm autistic and i need things to be a bit more direct," or "eye contact is hard for me, but i'm listening." telling people what you need is a power move.

2. The Sensory World: Why Your Brain's Volume Knob is So Weird

the autistic sensory experience is a wild ride. imagine your brain has a mixing board for all your senses, but the labels are worn off and some of the sliders are stuck at 0 or 11.

it's a constant state of extremes. this is because our brains can either over-register (hypersensitivity) or under-register (hyposensitivity) sensory input.

Hypersensitivity: When the World is at Full Volume

this is when your brain lets everything in. sounds, sights, and feelings that NTs filter out can be overwhelming, distracting, or even physically painful.

Sound: the hum of the fridge is a roaring monster. you can hear the electricity in the walls. a crowded cafe is a literal wall of painful noise.

Sight: fluorescent lights are searing torture devices. a cluttered room is visual chaos that makes your brain short-circuit. busy patterns on a carpet can make you feel dizzy.

Touch: the tag on a shirt feels like a shard of glass. a light, unexpected touch can feel like an electric shock. the texture of certain foods (looking at you, mushy bananas) is a full-body violation.

Smell: someone's perfume from across the room can be suffocating. the smell of cleaning products can give you an instant headache.

this constant sensory assault leads to sensory overload, which is the fast track to a meltdown or a shutdown. it's your brain's emergency brake.

Hyposensitivity: "Is This Thing On?"

this is the opposite. your brain isn't getting enough sensory data, so you actively seek it out. this is "sensory seeking," and it's all about getting the input your body craves.

Sound: you love loud music with deep bass. you thrive in noisy environments. you might make your own sounds (humming, singing, vocal stimming) just to feel something.

Sight: you're mesmerized by spinning objects, flashing lights, and super bright, saturated colors.

Touch: you crave deep pressure. this is why weighted blankets, tight hugs, and even crashing into things can feel so good and calming. it helps your brain know where your body is. chewing on things is also a big one.

Taste/Smell: you love extremely spicy, sour, or crunchy foods. you need that intense flavor profile to even register that you're eating.

and yes, you can be hypersensitive to some things (sound) and hyposensitive to others (touch) at the same time. it's a custom cocktail of sensory chaos.

The "Hidden" Senses are a Big Deal

it's not just the main five. two other senses are key to the autistic experience:

Proprioception (Body GPS): this is your sense of where your body is in space. if this is off, you might be clumsy, bump into everything, or not know how hard to press when you're writing.

Interoception (Internal Dashboard): this is how you read your body's internal signals. if this is wonky, you might not realize you're hungry, thirsty, or have to pee until it's an absolute emergency. it also makes it super hard to identify your own emotions. you feel something big and uncomfortable, but you can't tell if it's anger, fear, or just needing a snack.

Tame the Overload (Create Your Bubble)

Light Control is Non-Negotiable: ditch the "big light." use lamps with warm bulbs. get dimmer switches. wear sunglasses inside if you need to. no shame.

Headphones are Your Best Friend: noise-canceling headphones are not a trend; they are a medical device. loop earplugs are also a lifesaver for filtering sound without blocking it completely.

Curate Your Comfort: cut every tag out of every piece of clothing. find your brand of seamless socks and buy 20 pairs. it's okay to have a "uniform" of safe, comfortable clothes.

Build Your Sensory Go-Bag

This is your emergency kit. a small bag with your essentials: headphones, sunglasses, your favorite fidget toy, a chew necklace, a calming scent (like a lavender roller), and a safe snack (like crunchy pretzels). never leave home without it.

Let Yourself Stim: stimming (rocking, hand-flapping, pacing, fidgeting) is not weird or bad. it's a natural, healthy, and incredibly effective way to self-regulate. it's how your body deals with being over or under-stimulated. don't let anyone make you feel bad for it. organizations like the Autism Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) are great for learning more about stimming acceptance.

3. Inside the Autistic Brain: Routines, Glitches, and Big Feels

so much of the autistic experience is internal. it's about the internal architecture that dictates how we handle the world.

Routines are Not a Quirk. They are a Lifeline.

to an outsider, our love for routine can look rigid or obsessive. but from the inside, routines are a life-saving anchor in a chaotic world.

the world is unpredictable and sensorially overwhelming. a routine creates a predictable path through the day. it means we don't have to waste our limited battery life on small decisions like what to eat for breakfast or what order to get dressed in.

that frees up cognitive energy to deal with the hard stuff, like a last-minute change of plans at work. a broken routine isn't an "inconvenience." it can throw our entire system into chaos and trigger major dysregulation.

Executive Function? My Brain's CEO is on an Unscheduled Vacation.

executive functions are the skills that let you plan, organize, start tasks, and manage your time. it's your brain's project manager. for many of us, that manager is brilliant but also perpetually overwhelmed and easily distracted.

this is executive dysfunction, and it looks like:

Task Initiation Failure (aka The Wall of Awful): you want to do the thing. you need to do the thing. but there's an invisible wall between you and the thing. it's not laziness. it's a brain glitch.

Planning is Hard: the instruction "clean your room" is meaningless. it's too big. we need it broken down into "1. pick up clothes. 2. put clothes in hamper. 3. clear off desk."

Time Blindness: we have two units of time: "now" and "not now." gauging how long something will take is a superpower we do not possess. this is why we're often late or ridiculously early.

Object Permanence (for tasks): if something isn't right in front of my face, it ceases to exist. this applies to chores, emails, and sometimes even friends.

Emotional Regulation is a Full-Time Job

we feel things. a lot. our emotions are dialed up to 11. joy is ecstatic. sadness is a deep abyss. but managing these huge feelings is a massive challenge.

Alexithymia is a thing: this is the clinical term for "i feel a very strong emotion but i have no idea what it is." it's like your internal dashboard is flashing a giant red warning light, but the label has fallen off.

Meltdowns vs. Shutdowns: this is what happens when the system overloads. it's an involuntary neurological response, not a tantrum.

Meltdown: the "fight or flight" response. it's an external explosion of distress. crying, yelling, hitting things. it's the brain's pressure valve releasing.

Shutdown: the "freeze" response. it's an internal retreat. we go quiet, nonverbal, and might seem completely zoned out. it's the brain pulling the plug to prevent further damage.

Boss Up Your Brain: Life Admin & Emotion Hacks

Get Your Executive Function in Order

Externalize Everything: your brain is for having ideas, not holding them. use sticky notes, phone alarms, visual planners, to-do list apps. get it all out of your head and into the physical world.

Embrace the Spoon Theory: this is a classic neurodivergent metaphor. you start the day with a set number of "spoons" (energy units). every task costs spoons. socialising costs a lot. a quiet day at home costs less. when you're out of spoons, you're done. it's a brilliant way to explain your energy limits. you can read the original essay at But You Don't Look Sick.

Body Doubling: can't start a task? have someone else just be in the room with you. they don't have to help. their quiet presence can be enough to get your brain over the "wall of awful."

Master Your Emotional Thermostat

Name It to Tame It: get an emotion wheel chart. when you're feeling a big, confusing feeling, look at the wheel. just finding the word for it ("oh, this is apprehension") can make it less scary.

Have an Escape Plan: know your personal signs of overload (getting hot, talking faster, hands tensing up). when you feel it starting, have a pre-planned exit strategy. "i need to go to the bathroom" is a universally accepted escape hatch.

Create a "Nest": have a designated safe space in your home. fill it with your comfort items: weighted blanket, soft lighting, headphones, a good book, your favorite stim toy. this is your charging station.

4. The "Plus Ones": When Autism Brings Friends (ADHD, Anxiety, etc.)

autism loves to roll with an entourage. it's super common to have other conditions hanging out, too. knowing about these is key to understanding your whole experience.

Anxiety & Depression: The Usual Suspects

anxiety is basically autism's best friend. i mean, if you lived in a world that was constantly too loud, confusing, and demanding, you'd be anxious too. masking (pretending to be neurotypical to fit in) is a direct cause of chronic anxiety.

depression often follows. feeling constantly misunderstood, isolated, and exhausted from the sheer effort of existing can, unsurprisingly, lead to depression.

AuDHD: The Ultimate Neurospicy Combo

ADHD and autism have a huge overlap. so many of us have both. welcome to the world of AuDHD. it's a life of contradictions.

understanding ADHD is a game-changer for many autistics, even without a formal diagnosis. resources from orgs like CHADD can be super helpful.

Tummy Troubles & Sleepy Struggles

the brain-gut connection is real. chronic GI issues (constipation, food sensitivities, stomach pain) are incredibly common for us. so are sleep problems. our brains often don't want to shut down, leading to insomnia and wonky sleep schedules.

Comparing the Vibes: Autism vs. ADHD vs. AuDHD

the autistic lived experience isn't a tragedy. it's not a puzzle to be solved. it's a different neurotype. a different way of being human.

Hi! I was surprised to see somewhere you mentioned you don't like Lily James's Cinderella. I'm not judging, just surprised bc she seems to be widely considered the best live action princess depiction. I do think her Ella is less spunky and interesting than OG Cinderella but what criticisms do you have? Do you think she's as bad as Rachel's Snow will probably be?

I don't think anyone will ever be as bad as Lily was in her film, not even Rachel. With Rachel, it's a difficult situation because people keep changing what she did depending on what the public reaction is to absolve her of any wrongdoing so the internet can baby her. If people are upset with her comments about disliking Snow White, everyone will rally to her defense and say, "But she DIDN'T say that- watch her interviews!" and if someone clips exactly what she said, the goalpost is changed to, "OK, but it's an 80 year old movie; she was right!" So there's no merit in any discussion regarding Rachel, though I do think it's an out and out shame to have one of the most influential films and characters of media history be seen through such a banal lens, with criticisms which don't even hold any weight and all likely originated by an apathetic dullard that had beef with their childhood and took it out on a Disney film, and those criticisms kept getting passed around decade by decade (like I don't think these people who parrot these things to attempt to be intellectually superior to whatever they perceive to be the dominant culture of the past realize that they're really just repeating misogynistic trite half the time; like at Lindsay Ellis' character arc on The Little Mermaid from the late 2000's to today). I don't think anyone who actually watches Snow White for themselves, Rachel included, would have the takes she touts to have if they had to use their own head to come up with those opinions. But that groupthink and monoculture is an entirely different story for another time (and we can see how it's evolved, from everyone agreeing with the things she said despite it not lining up to the movie, to then morphing to the point of actually trying to pretend that Rachel loves the character of Snow White; posting pictures of going to the parks near the character's merchandise after being cast as the character is something different entirely to showing an understanding and appreciation of it, both of which Rachel is completely lacking in. The only thing she admires about Snow White is her reflection in it, now that she's been cast).

With Lily specifically, I think it's much more heinous for so many reasons. Not to compare traumas, but Snow White goes through more than any other character- male or female- in the animated canon. So while she, too, suffers abuse in her lifetime, I think Cinderella's film is the one that's kinda become the posterchild for surviving abuse so I think Lily opening her uneducated mouth and cosigning on victim-blaming rhetoric was not only incredibly inane, detrimental, uncalled for, and harmful of her to do, but also just...incomprehensibly dense when she gave us someone that more closely aligned with the victim doormat she accused the original of being? To be pompous and as self aggrandizing as Lily is, going to movie premieres that are only possible because of the original production which was the labor of love for thousands of artists, and to put it all down and paint abuse victims in such a shallow, unintelligent light, lacking any perspective, and propping your version up as the "stronger," more "empowered" one, when she gave us one that was more centered around a man, objectively weaker in every possible way, less nuanced, and hyper-sexualized, pandering to the male gaze...to me, it's everything wrong with these Hollywood hypotheses today in a nutshell.

Ilene Woods' Cinderella is so multilayered and human. and with it being a realistic portrayal, it can be alienating- because it reflects life. Some people like you, some people don't. Ilene's Cinderella had limits and could be curt and struggled with her faith and resented her situation, but she also had a fighter's spirit and was resilient and had humor and courage. You got a sense that, this was someone who never had any resources of their own and became, to everyone else, what she never had for herself, which created a path toward her inevitable freedom and success. Lily's...smiled dully, communicated ineffectively, and was a mess from a characterization standpoint. All the ways they tried to make her "empowered" or "develop her" hurt the story. The film is called Cinderella- by trying to develop her relationship with the Prince by making them meet in the woods before the ball, they changed the motive for Cinderella going to the ball to meet the Prince again. That's a HUGE step back and more closely aligns with Lily's insane comments that the original "just waited for a Prince to save her." In the original, she didn't even think she'd ever see her dance partner again after she left the ball. Her fighting for her right to go to the ball was symbolic of her demanding to be seen as a person in the eyes of their society and refusing to be bypassed once more. She didn't come for a Prince- you can see that by the way she showed up to the ball by herself and journeys through the Castle, admiring the architecture, while everyone else- including Anastasia and Drizella- are lined up to meet the Prince. Never once does she mention a man or love in any way until after he approaches her at the ball. She even leaves the Prince at midnight and doesn't know until the next morning who he is or that he's looking for her. That's a long step away from Lily's portrayal, 65 years later.

They try to give Lily more "snappy" moments to prove that she can assert herself (which original Cinderella had no issue doing) but they do it in a way that's largely ineffective. She challenges the Prince, but that's the only person and the way she does it...oof. When he asks her about her family, she passively whispers, "they treat me as well as they are able." But she's comfortable yelling at a stranger with weapons about hunting??? How is this the same person???? When she speaks back in French to her family, but the audience doesn't know what she said and neither does her stepfamily- and after it, she just runs along and does their bidding anyway? There's so many more examples. And, of course, her spinning around in circles and singing out-loud in the attic is the most obviously heinous example of her characterization. I swear, it's crazy to me that these real people half a century after the animated films, that accuse the originals of having shallow and regressive characters, give us just that. It's also funny to me that Lily James went on a press tour bashing the original Cinderella and looking ignorant as it pertains to abuse and feminism, and then got offended when reporters asked if her waist was photoshopped and she had the gall to reference the fact that we should be in a time where women support women. Lily's production of Cinderella reinforces Eurocentric beauty standards more than the original- the stepsisters, Lady Tremaine, and the Fairy Godmother all fit a very similar type of conventional beauty- young, hyperfeminine, white with VERY similar features, and stylized. They're completely monolithic in terms of body type and appearance, and took away the diversity of age ranges, body types, and physical features in the original. Then for Lily to gape about people asking her about her diet, after she spent an hour bashing the original female character as being "passive." Lily even openly admitted to being laced within an inch of her life, naturally being thin with a small waist but having to go on a liquid diet because she couldn't fit into her clothing otherwise. She laughed about having to belch in the Prince's face over and over again because she was so tightly laced and her stomach hurt from only being able to drink liquids and not eat...idk she just lacks in any intelligence or charm to me. I think it's also harmful because it's become the favored version, with Disney writing it into the original's novelization in contemporary books, with people think Lily's character was what the original one was and forgetting their differences, ugh I could go on about this forever. Just know I think Lily's performance in this film is the worst in cinema history lol

- If I had to sum up his personality in a few words, they would be ‘chill chaos’.

- The drug-like substance he consumes affects the light he gives off, which is what allows her to shift its color.

- Her fighting/hunting style is kinda reckless, like a honey badger; mainly leaning on brute force, sheer determination and the light trick.

- She doesn’t exclusively do psychedelic effects with his lights for hunts, though - it has entertainment value for him as well.

- Also yee she’s bigender :D

- (I’m starting to debate calling her Q instead for uh. standout purposes. cause I’ve seen a few Ys by now and I don’t wanna cause confusion hhhnshsjdbdb Edit: made the change; I think Q fits him better now that I mull it over :0)

Weird Frog

- That’s the JP-Dilo-Sentinel (name given by Q).

- It guards Celadon’s residence with the Packleader, and was built to give the Sentinels more variety.

- It is particularly small and fast and, instead of the stun stare, the sound of its screech gives off an AoE effect to temporarily paralyze any nearby drone who hears it.

- It has a very playful attitude, putting its all into fending off attackers but also having fun with it; y’know that one scene in Agony of a Witch where Hooty was fending off Lilith and the EC. Yeah uh. that’s pretty much WF in a nutshell.

- It’s quite curious and won’t immediately attack a lone drone it sees approaching the residence unless that drone is clearly looking to be a threat.

The Packleader Sentinel

- It’s the primary guard of Celadon’s residence, and sort of a parental figure to Weird Frog.

- Its stun stare is stronger than that of an average Sentinel, to the point where the flash can cause a bit of lasting damage in drones.

- It was basically built to be like. the Final Boss of the regular Sentinels. Like, something to fall back on if the need arose.

- This one’s a bit silly but: I imagine it was designed based off the Indoraptor and Scorpios Rex like. in-universe. Cause Liam said that the Sentinels were made raptors bc the humans just. liked dinosaurs and thought they were cool. So I imagine the Jurassic Park/movies being in this universe, and while they’re working on the Packleader someone just goes ‘hey what if we based it off those freaky-looking hybrid dinos, like the one that’s a raptor but bigger and creepier :0’.

Avarice SOL

- He was the result of a faulty one-off experiment.

- He has a powerful, insatiable drive to take parts of drones to build on his own form, and bothers Celadon on a regular basis (as stated in the previous post) bc the Hellsinger residence has a lot of what he wants.

- He stole a drone’s voicebox so he can speak, and… I imagine him sounding like that one mackerel in that one Dexter’s Laboratory episode.

Cure PHX

- They were started by Celadon’s parents in order to combat Disassembly Drones. Celadon later finished them, adding the healing abilities they now have.

- Not only can they release a signal to shut off physical pain in other bots, they also have ankle spurs to secrete a substance that’s basically the bot equivalent of melatonin.

- Their functions can be a bit wonky sometimes, and the full power of the UV light/radiation from their wings is only meant to be used in short bursts; too long will cause them delirium from the excess heat and power.

- They’re fully sentient, though due to the nature of their creation, their voicebox is kinda messed up and can produce garbled, birdlike sounds that take effort to form into words - I imagine Cure sounding somewhat like half-healed Centipeetle from Steven Universe.

Celadon Hellsinger

- Her residence is kind of run-down but she refuses to patch it up bc it ‘enhances the elusion factor’.

- She owns a weapon called the Frequency Gauntlet (I uh. stole the name from a mobile game called Monster Legends if I’m being completely frank) that was p much the pet project of her parents and grandparents. they all collaborated to make it.

- The aforementioned Hellsingers are gone now, so she just lives w/ Cure and the two Sentinels (speaking of the two Sentinels her parents basically. donned the FG and stole them very sneakily; I haven’t decided if they were stolen b4 they were put in with the other Sentinels and so they were more chill with drones they didn’t see as a threat, or if the Hellsingers tweaked their programming but uh. yeh)

- She’s usually sort of a pacifist; not nearly as concerned w/ actively confronting and doing battle w/ the DDs as her parents were, and is perfectly content with hiding from them (which doesn’t work out too bad as the Hellsingers made their residence as secluded and unnoticeable as they could to reduce the possibility of being tracked down).

- She’s aroace bc uh. yeh

Extra story bit

- Basically uh. Q happened upon Celadon’s residence at some point while traveling wherever and went over to get a closer look. He was met halfway by Weird Frog, and the two quickly became friendly toward each other. Then later, through WF as a common thread, Q met Celadon and now they’re… not friends, exactly, more like. acquaintances on peaceful terms. and they act a bit like siblings. Q thinks Celadon is cool, while Celadon is a bit more hesitant and often baffled by his antics.

i’m so happy :D. i’ve watched ballad twice this week. the second time i watched it w my brothers i didn’t have anything to say about it bc i was mostly just on edge about not getting kicked out of the theatre but since i teased a breakup over this Boyfriend was on his best behavior so i actually got to watch the movie without anyone asking a million question a scene. in related news we have another lucy gray truther on our side. here are some of my thoughts

3. hunter schafer is my eyebrow inspo. also i’ve mentioned this before w the bathing suits having a 1920s and 50s vibe but she’s giving 1940s to me. but obviously glamor 1940s not war ridden 1940s

4. watching this w someone who hasn’t read the book is so enjoyable. when lucy gray dropped the snake down mayfairs shirt Boyfriend got SO tense “waitwait did she just try to fuckin murder her??” god forbid women do anything

5. okay sorry but the first time i watched it i was trying not to smile (in a laugh-y way) when lucy grays singing part came on. when i read it i thought that part ate but actually seeing it was so different for some reason. i think this feeling might be amplified if you’ve never read the book bc my sister felt the exact same way she said it was kinda fuckin cringe. idk if it was just bc we were at home or she was just feeling silly but she started singing that one camp rock song that’s like “we can’t back down.” which ok yeah that was kinda lucy grays song in a nutshell but it kinda did piss me off bc the “you can kiss my ass!!!!” part was coming on soon and i was stressing over them missing it. also didnt lucy gray have a full on dance break in the book?? god. they should have kept that in

TubNet Post

The thing about TubNet is I think it had such a strong potential and was really going somewhere, it just... lost steam from multiple directions. From the delay, to the ddos attacks on launch, to the lack of promotions... it just didn't hit the vision it originally had. The documentary was good (though it wasn't much more info hardcore tubblings didn't already know) and it provided a good summary of how TubNet was made! Though short, (I think Tubbo said he wanted it to be longer) it's a good video to watch for some background and bts of things! So check it out :)

I think in a nutshell, minecraft servers are already a hard thing to get up and running (the devs were putting their blood, sweat, and tears into it), but with the delay and lack of promotion the server just seemed destined to fail... Promotion plays such a huge part in somethings success (just look at they hype the Barbie movie has created from marketing alone) and I always found it weird that TubNet got no more than a few trailers and events post launch. I think the original marketing plan with the Twitchcon stage was AWESOME, but the delay hindered that hype and then the promotion just... stopped. And it's still stopped to this day. I commend how much work was put into the server on a coding standpoint--that's no easy task--but I think may indie companies like this forget about marketing and just how important it is. In this case, I don't think it was truly and one persons fault the server didn't hit the high life--I hate saying that as a Tubbo Supporter, but I'm not pushing the whole blame on him. Though, I wish he did more to get his name out here bc he's always been such a passive person. It's like a kpop nugu almost, when the company doesn't promote the group and just sends them out there and hopes for the best--they're destined for disbandment. I'm not a server person, so I can't speak much on it's life span, but I do hope it will find success. I just think a few things went wrong that demotivated Tubbo and the team which led to the current outcome of TubNet.

i. you often ‘borrow’ remus’ fluffy and thick sweaters on especially chill days. they were so big that they swamped your frame but that was how you liked it and you liked that they fit your dark academia aesthetic too. remus doesn’t mind, but acts like you owe him for being so generous with lending out his clothing — “you’re nice and toasty because of my sweater so you should help keep me warm,” was his most common excuse but that often led to you cuddling up against his chest, between his legs and on his bed while you read separate books. it was the perfect way to spend an evening together. 

ii. compared to remus, you’re quite short but he loves that about you, especially when you’re dressed in your whimsigoth attire. he thinks you’re adorable and always has this urge to hold you to him – like you’re his own pretty fairy, small and beautiful and someone he doesn’t think he could ever live without – but doesn’t want to come across as clingy so he usually just ends up fiddling around with the fabric of your clothes. you’ve come to see the gesture as a sign that remus needed to be cuddled so whenever you feel a slight tug on your clothing, you immediately turn to cuddle up against your boyfriend.

iii. when you and remus first got together, you were quite nervous about meeting his friends, especially because you knew how close they were. But, over time and with some prompting from remus, you’ve gotten just as close with the boys as remus has; you share a lot of sweets and inside jokes with peter, you help sirius with styling his hair and clothes and james likes to ask you for advice with lily. the boys often refer to you as ‘the missus’ or ‘remus’ girl’ or their ‘sister in law’ because you were all practically family to each other. 

iv. the time remus discovered your tattoos, he was entranced by them, he thought they looked beautiful on you and he’s grown to habitually kiss them whenever you two were intimate with each other. you’ve told him how you debated getting a tattoo dedicated to him, which he blushed at. he was incredibly flattered that you would want something of him permanently on your skin. you were strongly against getting a full moon however; you didn’t want something that caused him so much grief to represent him on your body, instead, you opted for tattooing a matching scar of his onto your own body – it was a favourite of yours and perfectly placed across the upper right side of his abdomen. “Why?” he asked you in disbelief when he saw your new tattoo, tracing it with his finger gently as his other hand moved to press against the matching scar on his own body. “because i think it’s beautiful,” was your answer and ohhhh how you made him melt!

v. one summer, you and remus decided to go on holiday together for a week before the full moon and he fully got to appreciate your love for coffee. you woke up to do mornings with coffee, spent the evening with tea and remus, being the loving and observant boyfriend that he was, helped brew you tea and coffee whenever that time of the day came along. It took you one time to show him how you liked your tea and coffee for him to nail it over and over again. he’s your little barista~

vi. your holiday together was spent in an airbnb located in a countryside village, watching criminal minds, horror movies and cheesy romance films in bed together, going on long walks and reading and writing at cute cafes. It was so relaxing and you had never felt so at peace… until the marauders decided to crash the party and surprise you two with a spontaneous visit of your little get-away together. It wasn’t an unwelcome visit, in fact, you were just beginning to miss the boys and they showed up just in time. “I knew it! I knew you missed us!” james cheered and sirius laughs with his arm thrown over peter’s shoulders, the three of them grinning widely at yours and remus’ cuddled up forms.

vii. as much as remus loved having the boys around, however, he wanted to be alone with you more so he set about planning a scheme to encourage their departure without making it too obvious — his plan: to be as lovey-dovey with you as they were willing to stomach and amping it up every time.

viii. “you’re so beautiful today, my love,” remus coos into your ear before pressing a kiss against your cheek. “No no no, let me get that for, my dear,” remus insists, hurrying to open the door for you to enter as he leans his face down and smiles expectantly. with a giggle, you kiss him sweetly as thanks and enter while the boys in the background pull faces at the lovey atmosphere you two were setting. “we can share the blanket, darling,” remus calls and opens his arms so you could run up to cuddle into his chest with the blanket wrapped around both of you. you were already wearing remus’ thick sweater but cuddling with him made you feel especially warm, which was needed for the chilly night. The rest of the boys glare at the two of you, feeling especially lonely as they look on with their marshmallows over the open fire and glaring when remus looks up from kissing you and smirks at their pathetic, shivering appearance under unbearably thin blankets.   

ix. by the end of day 2, they were packing their bags. “remmy…” you sighed and narrowed your eyes at your boyfriend after the two of you waved the boys goodbye. “yes, sweetheart?” he asks, pressing a kiss to your cheek after taking a strand of your blonde hair behind your ear. “i know what you did! i didn’t know you could be so devious!” he grins as you pout, “darling, i’m a marauder too, y’know~”

okay. so im not even going to try to sound remotely intelligent in this one because its basiclaly a brain dump

starting off with the short poem i wrote after crying to ue/yuki's song to mafuyu:

i think this hits especially hard after yk, graduating high school. mafuyu's turmoil about moving on is so fucking real and unfortunately a little bit too close to home for me. well in this case his struggle to move on is also due to yuki and comign to terms with loss, but its all the same really. fear of moving on. the fact that theres too much weight in each of our choices and we cant ever go back. mafuyu my son (we are the same age) you are so incredibly real.

oh. also the parallels of mafu/ue and mafu/yuki in the beginingn and end are so making me so fuckign ill. "you'll forget this" but he didnt, the memory lives on. and the footprints may have washed away but his memory still remains. in the music, i guess. GOD. GOD!!!! someone kill me.

oh also the sex comment. ik thats significant to some point but i dont really know why he said that. yes it is paralleling yuki but i cannot fathom why its significant. OH but i will tell you this. when yuki first said that in the anime series i cried. so fuckign hard. like that was supposed to be a gag line but i started sobbing. heres my live notes after watchign:

yuki's suicide was NOT selfish, i'll tell you that much. maybe I am selfish, but he was not. he was struggling. did his death impact many other people and leave them with grief? yes. is he responsible for that? yes. but how can you claim suicide is selfish when its selfish of YOU to convince them to stay alive???

anyways thats a tangent. one of the main things i wanted to talk about was uenoyama and his role in helping mafuyu heal. yes i am incredibly glad he is there for him and so loving and caring (and god i wish i could find a girlfriend like that) but. alas. thats not what this is about.

i feel bad, but internally i was screaming at mafuyu during the third movie. like yes, i understand him. a little too much for my liking. i understand not wanting to move forward and being scared of the unchangable future. but i also understand uenoyama. to my understanding, ue was mafuyu's pillar. and to me it sucked that he coudlnt do the same. like a support triangle, except not really cuz they should support each other while also being able to stand on their own. again though, this is me projecting. i acknowledge that.

when mafuyu eventually gets closure though, its beautiful. im so glad ue was able to do that for him. ohmygod and that proposal scene was so cute. sighs deeply. mafuyu is finally able to part with yuki. he understands now that moving on doesnt mean abandoning yuki but rather leaving him behind. somethign he can always come back to i guess, but doesnt need to. not anymore.

old love, new love, i could never understand ts coming from someone with zero relationship experience but i can imagine its hard to move on. i think if i get a gf and fall in love and then break up and watch this i'll cry SO much harder. lol. lol. revisit this in a couple years, future me. was i right?

i kinda abandoned writing more bc i (1) forgot what i was gonna say and (2) got distracted looking at the hidden inventory movie pictures of stsg as kids and almost cried. we NEED to kill toji.

ok my glengarry glenn ross recap/thoughts in a nutshell:

bob odenkirk had a sore throat so he couldn't speak but he was super generous with his time and gesturing as much as he could lol

michael mckean came out with pictures of his dog which was beautiful

howard w overshown was sooo charismatic with the crowd just talking about how it was a good audience night and he loves working with these guys etc

john pirruccelo was the last and he was so sweet, i told him he was breaking my heart a little at the end of the play and he laughed and was like "you pity him, you just wanna hold him" and i rocked an imaginary baby and he got a kick out of that.

donald webber was my favorite performance of the show and he didn't do stage door :( i just want to highlight he was the emotional grounding, and i think casting a Black man as williamson gives so many layers to his interactions with the white sales assholes who tell him he's incompetent. made me think of severance milchek and his complicity but also his mistrestment. anyway, webber's steadiness and then flipping out at george and telling him to go to lunch is so relatable, because he knows george won't hit back and he needs everyone to stfu and idk that just resonated. Anyway

other notes about the show itself: it was a little unnerving that the audience was laughing at the racism and like, i understand the dialogue os poking fun at these salesmen and the collapse of capitalism but i feel like the audience didn't really get that? also felt like the audience was "on roma's side", which again, he's a protagonist so makes sense but there's some swarminess with the swindling at the end that is supposed to be uncomfortable and it was weird that we were applauding roma and moss and shelley for these big tantrums, essentially.

idk i had seen the movie before this but it didn't stick as well as the play, and i might have to read the play now bc there's a lot of quips that probably have more depth than i got in the moment. kieran's performance was interesting bc it seemed like this guy is genuinely flying by the seat of his pants in his own life/morals and doesn't know what to do if he isn't sharking towards the next thing, and there's some succession-y tragedy in that. bon odenkirk was absolutely splendidly manic at times, and bill burr really surprised me with the command he held of the stage. i feel like those big three being cast and marketed so much both emphasizes and obscures the meaning/delivery of the play if that makes sense. the production itself/the marketing of the production is kinda hollow capitalism (as many broadway productions are, as stunt casting is, etc), and there could be interesting analysis there where the audience is being awed/swindled a little expecting this to be a heroic/comedic tale and it's actually swarmy and uncomfortable and gutting. but it's also drawing in an audience who want that damn comedy, maybe. i don't know. maybe that fuels the evolution of the show, but seeing as it's strictly limited i kinda doubt it ?

i kept thinking of that succession quote like "what are words? complicated airflow" because it was stomach-turning some of the schemes/ways these salesmen talked about the leads played out. like holy shit it's a good play, and great performances, i just want a more thoughtful reception maybe, sorry if this is snobby to say
