Sorry, Idk if you dont want to explain stuff in your story, but can I ask about the "it's not enough" chant in ch12 of clipped wings? Im so curious about what it was meant to reprresent/mean or what Donnie was talking about

initially, you're meant to look at it literally. "it's not enough" is just in reference to the fact that wiping down blood with a cloth and smearing it around isn't actually doing anything. donnie is unaware that he is also actively bleeding and making the mess worse. all he can register is that it's not enough. very easy thing to compare to caged lungs and how quite a bit of the pain he experienced was of his own making, and how his self-destruction only contributed to... getting more blood on the floor, so to speak. and they'd always punish him for bleeding...

"it's not going to be enough" is meant to show the fear and futility, the cyclical nature of his job, his duty, his pain. "i'm the only one who can" gets to the root of the self-worth issues this is reflecting in the first place. he's not only talking about the blood. he's talking about a lot of things. it's a reflection of... a lot. there's a reason i brought up his parentification in the author's note after-- it is meant to make you think of that, especially when his words get brought around when he fixes the heater later. he knows he's the only one he can. and even if he isn't, he's the only one who will. he's convinced they'll hate him if he doesn't. or they'll suffer the moment he tries to rest.

it's a scene that can mean a lot of things, and ive seen several interpretations of it before. a lot of metaphors in cc are intended to be open-ended, to the point where they can be double-triple-quadruple entendres if you're keeping an eye out for them :3 that's my favorite thing about doing metaphors i feel, especially with more abstract symbolism

one more opinion about star trek fashion

it actually shouldn’t look like stuff you would wear (or at least a lot of it shouldn’t)

i’ve seen a lot of praise for modern trek fashion being better than classic trek because ‘people would actually wear that’

look at what people wore as everyday fashion 200-300 years ago, would you wear it? probably not, maybe for the novelty of it, but definitely not every day.

like, yeah this stuff looks crazy

it’s 300 years in the future. some of them are aliens, makes perfect sense to me that they would wear ridiculous extravagant clothes that look strange to my 21st century eye

similar to how if you showed modern fashion (especially alternative fashion/runway fashion) to someone dressed like this,

they would probably think we’re crazy.

yet for some reason modern trek wants us to believe that hundreds of years into the future people still just wear zip up hoodies?

(idk if the spock fit actually is a hoodie or not but come on man, the zipper? nothing more futuristic than a zipper?)

tldr

clothing design in star trek should be just as important as clothing design in a period piece. i don’t think a screencap from any star trek should look like it could just as easily take place in the 21st century, i should see some crazy outfits. the clothes can do a lot of the heavy lifting to remind us that this is supposed to be far in the future.

I see your Bruce Wayne is dating Batman rumors and raise you this:

Everyone knows that Bruce Wayne is dating Batman. Everyone knows that Jason Todd is Red Hood. Everyone knows that Jason Todd is Bruce Wayne’s dead son. Everyone knows Red Hood hates Batman. This is all a very open secret. Everyone knows Tim Drake and Red Robin have a very public beef with one another. And that Red Hood used to have a very public (but much more violent) beef with the third Robin.

This leads to the general accepted truth being that Red Hood hates Batman because he is fucking his dad, and Tim Drake and Red Robin dislike each other because Tim’s brother beat up Red Robin, and, once again, Red Robin’s dad is fucking Tim’s. Everyone feels a little bad for Red Robin, being at the end of both Red Hood’s and Tim Drake’s distaste, because the former is a crime lord and the latter is Timothy Jackson Drake.

This, naturally, reaches the JL whom does not know Batman’s identity yet. Green Arrow makes a passing comment about having also fucked Wayne, which Batman overhears. Cue absolute bat confusion, which he does not show. And that was how the great Batman found out that he accidentally 100% enforced the rumors that he was dating himself by the way he replied to reporters strange questions that in hindsight were so incredibly obvious.

This whole time, Young Justice is having the time of their lives (while also becoming increasingly concerned) as they watch Tim switch between devices as he replies to himself on different accounts on Twitter to further his own feud with Red Robin.

And Jason is. Not sure how he feels. On one hand, Bruce is now very uncomfortable about many, many things. And people yell at Batman when he starts treating Jason like his son (especially when he yells “I’m not your son!” Because what kind of boyfriend would try to make their boyfriend’s kid their own when they clearly don’t want to be). That’s an upside. But on the other, this implies that he is Bruce’s son. And that brings up a lot of feelings he doesn’t want to deal with. And back on that first hand, people have mostly stopped making thirst traps of his dad (gross). And on the second once more, they have started shipping Red Robin and Tim.

And the others are just sitting back and enjoying the ride (they are absolutely a part of this, but I’m too lazy to type out and come up with ideas for the rest)
