Ok, since I can't reply to the ask we'll do it this way. (Tumblr glitchy? IDK. But I've written this out once already and lost it so..)
Christenson was one of the major contributors to the research done for BoB. Mike Ranney started compiling things via his newsletter, the questionnaires etc, and Christenson went at it as a historian. He submitted not just all this material (The whole box is his.), beautifully written and organized, but sought out more information when asked. He had drawings too!!! He even defended Ambrose at the Sparks reunion after the 13 chapters pre-view came out. The guy worked his ass off and if Dick said something to him that set him off than this letter was not harsh enough. Especially since O'Keefe apologized after getting snapped at about 'reserving his judgement' on the book, and Lipton got this shit and didn't immediately drive up and kick his ass.
Ranney and Christenson were working on a book (Dick said they argued about who would write it and that killed the project. From Pat's letter it sounded like Mike just liked to argue and get under his skin and they almost came to blows a few times) but Christenson says there was no way he would have gotten it published. I think he checked. And Bando himself has commented on how tough the market was for these books at the time. Dick knew it too, it's probably part of the reason he became bookzilla.
Anyhow, Ambrose did interviews with select people. Others sent him their narratives by letter. Ranney did questionnaires but also did the early newsletters and made a huge effort to keep a company roster updated. Christenson did his own research and drawings, then went about sending another round of questionnaires to guys of questions Ambrose had. (I feel like he may have expressed disappointment at the drawings not being used as Toye sent him $200 to buy print copies for his boys and Martin also requested prints for his scrapbook). He defended the book at the reunion. Guarnere also did a hell of a job organizing and keeping the newsletter and group together. They don't get enough credit for that.
Oh, and Pat's jab about the commendations? All I can say is that's actually kind of funny considering Speirs, old horrible asshole bang bang Sparky, not only busted his own balls in an official homework paper for his Officer's Course in 1948 for not putting in enough commendations on D-Day BUT also tried to do it so well after D-Day that he got John G. Mayer to tell him off for it and shove the promotion and medal he was trying to give him.
I'll post the letter about the reunion, because Ambrose had these guys fighting his battles for him and the stuff they wanted corrected was not outrageous. I think the only reason he corrected how he wrote Buck's 'trenchfoot' was because the guy was a lawyer.

"Tommy's troubling past" and it's an inappropriate joke about Chim being a Chinese delivery driver (they were eating Chinese food), ignoring Chimney's attempts to hang out (which was paralleled with Buck and Ravi this exact season), and saying "new York bitchiness is a compliment" in response to Hen taking Chim's "you have an easy coast vibe" as a compliment.
Were they great things to say? No. But when you take the year and toxic environment into account, they make sense.
And now knowing Tommy was closeted....
Context matters.
Plus, he regrets how he acted.
Not like he almost killed a man, or threw the deaths of his captain's family in his face, or let his best friend be the last to find out he had taken a permanent firefighter position in Texas. Or ran back to the army instead of staying home with his wife to care for their son. Or didn't want to go with said wife to LA so she could be with her dying mother....only to go to LA a year later anyway and not tell her....until he needed her and then PROCEEDED TO HIDE HER FROM THEIR SON!
I don't know, but there is a character's troubling past we need to look at....and it's not Tommy's.

honestly i feel bad for ostark. putting his absolute all into those scenes with tommy, dancing like rent is due to show how gobsmacked and into that man buck is, only for "his fans" to claim buck was just there out of convenience because he couldn't have eddie. it's such a disrespectful way to engage with media

Are you KIDDING me?!
Tim allegedly avoids social media so to deliberately post this onto his personal Facebook is super disrespectful and honestly, so fucking SAD.
Tumblr media
The video:
He didn't kill Bobby for REALISM you stupid bitches (gn) he did it to give the show a fighting fucking chance.
This person needs to hydrate and stop talking.
I know you guys don't read, but Tim said the grief will be addressed in the last three episodes. And like it or not, Buck is NOT Bobby's son. So, no, he didn't need to go to Minnesota.
And let me hold your hand as I say, Bobby wasn't a ghost... he was a manifestation of Athena's grief 😭
This fandom is a fucking dumpster fire.
Also, you do understand that Peter had a contract, right? Which means he DID accept his exit or they bought him out. He's not sobbing uncontrollably in a corner over being "fired"
I'm not saying we should feel bad for Tim, but he did take a chance on HIS OWN SHOW, and I can respect that.

thunderbolts fans will tell you you can't ship boblena, ghostwalker, buckymel and then infantilize one character even though they are like 30, attribute all the war and moral crimes to depressed ex soldier, claim that the character that went through so much development and growth 'isn't ready' to be in a healthy relationship (even though it was this character's thing since forever), attribute certain sexuality to the film adaptation of the character, claiming that this character's sexuality is canon in the comics while reliability of this information is also ambiguous, try to convince you into thinking that 30-year-old-woman is a fresh out of school girl and made up some crazy theories on why the character can't be shipped with the depressed ex soldier mentioned before bcs 'they have big brother-little sister dynamic' and 'she deserves someone better'

Aroace shipping discourse is such a strange phenomenon. I'm sure it happens with other sexualities too but whenever an aroace character pops up its like a senate hearing over how to treat them.

Seeing all the hate Bob and Yelena are getting as a romantic pairing reminds me of the backlash Harry and Hermione shippers always face. Lately, it feels like calling an m/f dynamic “sibling-coded” has become a go-to excuse to dismiss or even vilify a ship. Just because you don’t personally like a pairing doesn’t mean you have to label it as “gross” or “incestuous” when there’s no biological relation at all. It’s so fucking annoying how often people use that kind of language just to invalidate ships and attack those who enjoy them.

8x09 Thoughts. I'm done with Eddie Diaz
I tried to write about this episode previously.. and I am going to send a second note to ABC about some of what I will outline here.
So let's talk about the good first. As utterly predictable as the serial killer plot was, it was a WILD ride. JLH is an amazing talent and I am SO looking forward to her and Abigail Spencer playing more off one another next week.
Buck with the dog was so cute. Also excellent choice in dog. Props to K9 casting.
Now let's get to everything else. Sorry this got really long. Under the cut.
TLDR: Eddie Diaz is a jerk. I don't have any desire to root for him anymore, and I don't care what happens to him. Buck has his flaws, but I want to root for him and for BuckTommy to get back together.
Buck helping Eddie find a subletter was not Buck being bad or bratty. I think he was genuinely trying to help Eddie find someone suitable. But he was also dealing with a lot. He's still not over Tommy, and now he's dealing with his best friend leaving. So it's Buck not thinking through and brain to mouth connection short circuited.
Eddie, meanwhile, didn't even tell Buck he had found a serious option until after he had made a down payment. How is Buck not supposed to feel abandoned? If I were moving away, I would let my best friend know the situation long before this.
Ok, so Buck is told to leave, and he notices he doesn't have his keys, or phone, and overhears Eddie saying to a potential tenant that "He doesn't have any ties here." Which is Bullshit for 2 reasons. 1. It shows Eddie doesn't consider the 118 as anything more than coworkers (if they were friends he would have told them his plan earlier on so they could work out and help him while finding a replacement). And 2. TIA PEPA and his cousins LIVE IN LA! Continuity error or not, I don't know. I don't care. This post is already horrifically long.
Now during the fight, Eddie is super mad at Buck and honestly...had he had ONE normal conversation with Buck this all could have been avoided. Buck comes back to apologize after revealing the situation to the team, something Eddie should have done weeks ago. What Eddie does is shit on Buck. And it wasn't necessary. Now! I've had fights with friends, I've been frustrated on occasion with my best friend. But I would never in a million years even THINK to use their insecurities in a fight against them. That's cruel and while Buck didn't handle the situation in the best way, Eddie was way too hard on him. Cause again, Eddie could have resolved this with one conversation. And we know Buck would never be upset with Eddie for choosing Christopher. But I think Eddie knows deep down that he's making another impulsive and stupid decision. Wow Eddie really has one brain cell. And he's clearly projecting that insecurity on Buck. But it's not Buck's job to validate Eddie's half-assed ideas. I think it was @nephilimeq's amazing post that really hammered in the emotional maturity and avoidance Eddie so
What we see is Buck's biggest fear shown, the idea that people tolerate him/care about him as long as he is useful.
Because Buck has done so much for Eddie. He took care of Christopher and was there for both of them at the drop of a hat. And Eddie by comparison.. and I know friendships aren't always 50/50. But it feels like this friendship is like 95% Buck and 5% Eddie.
I think it was @nephilimeq's amazing post that really hammered in my problems with Eddie. It's that he hasn't matured emotionally and faced his emotions and actions. And that's why I am so done with Eddie. And why I fully support Buck getting back together with Tommy.
Now Buck has his flaws, there's stuff he could have handled better this episode and the narrative needs to have him grow, and of course get back together with Tommy, who sees him and loves him, flaws and all. And it is clear that Buck isn't just dealing with Eddie leaving, he's still not over the breakup. And pile both of these things together... he needs a hug. But Eddie was in fact a complete jerk about the whole thing. This episode for me also shows why not only is B*ddie not going canon, even if it did, it would not be a good relationship because I don't think Eddie knows how to have one.
I don't really care if Eddie comes back or not because Eddie's not a character I want to root for anymore. I hope he's able to repair his relationship with his son for Christopher's sake though.

Just so you know, if you see a scene where two grown consenting adult men are making out and going to have sex and your first thought is “how can I make this seem immoral?” Youre a homophobe.
If you see Buck ask to take Tommy home and immediately assume that Tommy took advantage of him because Buck was drinking, youre a homophobe.
That is a genuine right wing tactic to fear monger and make gay men look predatory. And you are actively participating in it in the name of a ship with a straight man.

My biggest problem with anti Virgin Bob discourse is that y'all apparently think Adults can't be virgins and that only children can be Virgins and that being a Virgin means you're basically being treated like a toddler and that's just fucked in so many ways to me. I get that it is EXTREMELY likely he's fucked around but let people write virgin Bob without accusing them of infantilism.

Back on my discourse bullshit.
I am really sick and tired of the insinuations that Tommy is predatory. It reeks of homophobia. Older gay man praying on the poor uwu infant grown man. It's disgusting.
The newest implication? That Tommy took advantage of Buck in his drunk state (while simultaneously wanting B&E to have hooked up when they were both absolutely annihilated... gurl gn). And can't forget the stalking allegations that they happened to be in the same bar. LA may be sprawling, but it ain't that big and it's absolutely not out of the realm of possibility that the both frequented the bar in the past. People have preferred bars that they go to.
Firstly, we don't know how much Tommy had to drink. Secondly, Buck is a 200+ pound tank of a man, it will take more to get him drunk than it would say... Ravi who is at minimum fifty pounds less than him. And Ravi who maybe drank a shot or two less than Buck was sober enough to walk up to the bar without stumbling, order beers without stuttering, and see Tommy and make the connection and hightail his ass out of there.
It was a consensual sexual encounter. They both wanted it. Tommy made it clear to us, the viewers, that he missed Buck as much as Buck missed him.
But being weird and shitty about a fictional character is one thing (even if toxic) but we bring that bullshit to the actors whose job it is to play these roles. Y'all love to say that Lou "gayed him up" and gave Tommy "gay voice" but in the next tweet will lovingly say that Ryan has a "f--cent". Meanwhile, first and foremost, there is no one way to be gay. A cadence in your voice does not indicate your sexual orientation. (Yes, I know there is linguistic basis to 'gay voice' but lets be honest, that's more masters level queer theory and linguistics and these babes are in 101.) Secondly, If you ever listened to Lou talk, you'd realize that's how he talks.
You can just not like a character because you think they are in the way of your ship. That is okay. Lets keep the -ists and -phobias the fuck out of it. Let's keep the actors themselves out of it and act like we had some semblance of home training.
Some people in this fandom has stripped all the joy away from even people who ship your ship. This fandom is known by other fandoms for this bullshit and thats embarrassing as hell. You're embarrassing. I'm embarrassed for you.

So, Ryan makes the fight more violent and improvised grabbing Oliver as if to hit him....
And Lou improvises little knee and chin touches to show how much he cares for Buck....
