On the other end

A small dcaXy/n idea I had

Premis: Y/N works part time in the daycare but doesn't really interact with the dca which doesn't mean the dca didn't notice them there.

Start of the story

Y/N gets messages from an unknown number and decides to answer

They start messaging thinking that they don't know each other at all

They notice that the tone and wording in the messages switches completely throughout the day but get used to it way too fast

Y/N's life is a complete mess right now so Unknown is a pleasant distraction

They never tell each other their real names but use nicknames instead

Both share how they feel often and text about life and just anything that they think of

Someday y/n just calls their unknown friend to share some great news because they have no one else they want to share it with

They don't pick up but call back later

A male voice they have never heard answers. A pleasant one. They talk for hours.

But the voice tells them to only call at night bc he can't talk on the phone while working. But texting is fine

Y/N falls in love over late night phone calls and long text convos

They ask if they could meet up and hang out

He doesn't answer

The connection goes silent

The last thing he sent is "I'm so sorry. But I can't" written only a few minutes after their question (in the middle of the day)

Hours go by and they get no answer from him anymore

Hurt and worried Y/N is in a daze of crying and starring at nothing for the rest of the week

This is when Y/N misses their break bc they stayed in the daycare closet to cry

As they step out the daycare is dark sth that Y/N was never there to see

Then they hear it. The voice of the person they love singing from where the kids are sleeping.

Y/N stumbles through the dark until they reach the kids and lock eyes with the daycare attendant

Moon goes quiet and his eyes betray him and show his shock

Y/N is stunned

"It's you?"

Okay but why haven't we talked about Dailey Planet photo journalist Evan Buckley who is sooooo excited there's a superhero around and maybe spends a lot of time thinking about him (not like that! jeez, Maddie) and has taken the most photos of him out of anyone and is a little too invested in finding out who he is because he just has to know.

Enter Tommy Kinard, new reporter from out of town with no experience at a big news outlet but somehow is already getting stories that Buck had to grind for when he first stsrted and is also! Like way to handsome seriously, Maddie who does he think he is? Superman??

Anyway hijinks ensue and Buck does meet superman somehow and sort of gets a crush on him but also gets on on tommy?? Somehow?? It's just their hair looks sort of similar it's crossing the wires in his head that's all.

Buck has a first kiss with both of them and Tommy somehow thinks that Buck has figured it out before he really has which prompts some hilarious miscommunication and Buck panicking because he thinks he's somehow dating both his coworker and the local superhero.

Twilight’s mentor is a strange one. In a world of twilit planes forever shrouded in mystery, the older unicorn Lest and her adopted student Twilight are one in many common travelers, migrating the pitted wastelands and eeking survival within settlements that spring up around the glowing meteor shards. Despite living with Lest for the last four years, Twilight can’t help but seek answers to where her brother has gone— and in the process, perhaps dig a bit too deeply into the complexities of gods far older and dangerous then she can truly fathom.

On the otherhand, Celestia “Lest” Sol is having a terrible millenium. Her sister is no longer her sister, her student teleported herself halfway across the continent, and she got herself kidnapped by an old rival trying to attune with the elements of harmony to overthrow the current ruler of Equestria.

At least she gets a toxic yuri moment.

Meanwhile, Chrysalis is having a great time. She’s got kingdoms to conquer and people to feed and a waning god to taunt.

(The Selene Grace hates the sun monarch they deposed five centuries ago as they stay chained to their post, keeping the lunar and solar bodies from crashing into each other. Luna misses her sister, and the easier world where they haven’t hurt each other beyond reparation. Nightmare Moon misses their monstrosity, trapped in a host who’s grief has poisoned them with empathy.

Things are bound to tip. The celestial bodies are not bodies, but prisons, and the amalgamations we call alicorns the key. And something desperately wants to be freed…)

Something something... Eddie and Steve are mirror images of each other. Both start as larger than life caricatures of a high school stereotype. But one is "cool, jock, athletic" and the other is "nerdy, freak, outsider"

Something something... except jocks are supposed to be 'aggressive' and nerds 'passive' but they are each the opposite. Eddie starts out as seemingly VERY aggressive (manhandles the boys, yells, makes scenes, etc). Steve starts out as relatively passive (snarky, flirty, dorky, lover-boy).

Something something... they end up flipping back to pre-conceived notions. Steve fights Jonathan, fights the demogorgon. Eddie runs away, hides in the boathouse.

Something something... weapons with nails. A baseball bat is direct fighting, aim to hurt, melee, aggressive. A trashcan lid is a shield, aim to protect, safe.

In the Spitfire AU, assuming Zuko DOES go to the SWT, what does that interaction look like since he's no longer obsessed with finding the Avatar? I.e. is he nicer or just have a different bearing? What do Katara et al think of him?

Zuko needs to play a part in the war game if he wants Lu Ten II to be safe. That being said, the Southern Water Tribe is isolated, and there are no other Fire Nation ships nearby. So he doesn't need to go full Angry Disgraced Prince on a dying tribe. Which is nice and dandy because the spirit light left him feeling off his feet.

So he's quieter, restrained, and rather threatening.

(He has a kid to protect and doesn't know if there's going to be a fight or not. So he's coiled and ready to attack at any possible threat. He still lowers his voice and is respectful towards the women and children of the tribe—it's not them he fears, after all.)

Zuko forbids Spitfire from coming with him because, well, he doesn't know what he's going to face down there. Is the Avatar back? What are they like? Would he have to fight the strongest being on the planet (even if he really, really doesn't want to)?

But Ten Ten has a lot of practice in sneaking out to places he shouldn't be in. He's a curious kid, and has terrible (or great) timing.

(The Tribe understands, once the initial terror washes off. They notice when a small child—young as their youngest—runs off the ship and hugs his legs with a beam. They notice the fear on the Prince's face when the kid rushes on to talk and befriend their own. A fear they're all familiar with.)

(Direwolves are protective over their young. They are fearsome because no one dares approach a bloodthirsty beast and take a look at what it's protecting.)
