Naming Conventions of Tamriel - Headcanon

West Bretic:

Syntax: Old English / Norman - [Name] Fitz*[Parent or Ancestor] d’[Homeland]

Inspirations: Portuguese or Flemish, with small French influence

Examples: Rogier FitzRufus d’Wayrest (Rogier, son of Rufus of Wayrest); Santiago FitzMarcos d’Camlorn

East Bretic (West Reachi):

Syntax: Welsh Names, except ungendered - [Name] (m)ap/(m)ab [Parent Name]

Inspirations: Welsh names, Italian names

Examples: Fortunata ap Dugal (Fortunata, daughter of Dugal, assuming the name is genuine & proper); Dafydd ap Ruidri (Daveth, son of Ruidri)

East Reachi: Gaeltacht Names, Double Patronymic

Syntax: Old Irish, double patronym - [Name] Mac/Ui/Ni [Parent Name] Ó/Ua [Grandparent or Ancestor]*

Inspirations: Old Irish names, Pictish names (all, like, five of them that we know)

Examples: Céileachán mag* Eochagáin Ó Faoláin (Ceileachan, son of Eochaidh, descendant of Faolán***) Saoirse nic Shiúrtáin Ní Bhraonáin (Saoirse, daughter of Siúrtáin, daughter of Braonáin)

** c is swapped for g when followed by a vowel

High / Old Cyrodiilic Style:

Syntax: Pseudo-Latin - [Given Name / Praenomen] [Family Name / Nomen]*, [Nickname or Family Branch / Cognomen] OR Given Name and Patronymic/Matronymic (if a person belongs to no clan)

Inspiration: Roman Names, Italian Names

Examples: Tiberius Valerius Astrantus (Tiberius, descended from “Astrantus” of the Valerius Family); Flavio Edouardo Felice (“Lucky” Flavio of the Edouardo Family); Cadma filia Artoriae (Cadma, Daughter of Artorias) **

Notes: A lowborn Cyrodiil may occasionally be rechristened in High Cyrodiilic by the Elder Council in commemoration of some great act of service or dedication to the Empire. It is considered a tremendous honor, usually reserved for the greatest Generals of the Legions, the Bishops of the Nine Divines, and (historically***) politicians elected to a position in the council.

* The nomen is usually omitted in casual speech in favor of the Cognomen, denoting the family branch or nickname]

** Same as Irish, latine non loquor

Nordic Name Style:

Syntax: Kind of a blend between Slavic & Old Norse - [Given Name], [Patronymic/Matronymic] [Clan], In casual speech, the Patronymic is omitted among strangers, whereas the Clan Name is omitted among neighbors, friends, and family.

Inspiration: Germanic names, Hungarian Names

Examples: Sven Borgasson Proudmane (Sven, son of Borgas of clan Proudmane); Bael Junsson Iron-Skull (Bael, son of Jun of Clan Iron-Skull)

Orcish Name Style:

Syntax: [Name] gro/gra-[ParentName OR Homeland]

Inspiration: Turkish names, Mongolian names

Examples: Kurog gro-Orsinium (Kurog of Orsinium); Yamarz gro-Azog (Yamarz, (son) of Azog)

Dunmer Name Style:

Syntax: [Great House] [Given Name] [Minor house / clan / family]

Inspirations: Hindu Vedic names, Quenya/Sindarin names

Examples: Indoril Nerevar Mora (Nerevar, from the Mora family of Great House Indoril)

Notes: A person with a great house but no minor house (i.e. Sotha Sil) is either an orphan or a noble born to the main family / branch of the Great House (there’s probably a joke or folktale somewhere in that). Only foreigners and Ashlanders have no Great House.

Khajiiti Name Style:

Syntax: [Honorific]'[Name] OR ]Name]'[Honorific]

Inspirations: Iraqi names, Romani names, Sanskrit names

Examples: Jo'Basha (Scholarly Basha); Zhani'Daro (Clever Zhani)

Notes: Ta'agra does not use surnames, your guess is as good as mine for how their census works

Altmer, Falmer, Bosmer, & Ayleid Name Style*:

Syntax: [Given Name] 'len [Mother] [Maternal Grandfather] [Maternal Grandmother] 'ata [Father] [Paternal Grandfather] [Paternal Grandmother], 'cal [Surname]

Inspirations: Quenya/Sindarin names, Welsh names, Various medicine and shoe brands

*All elves descended from the Altmer have historically used variations of this naming pattern. The Kanuryai (Left Handed Elves), Dwemer, Chimer, Maormer, and Orsimer split off from the Aldmer before this became the standard. Bosmer historically used no last names, instead having adopted the custom from their neighbors (either Ayleidoon or Altmeri)

Redguard / Yoku Name Style:

Syntax: [Surname] [Given Name]* OR [Given Name] [Derivation(s)]

Inspirations: Semitic names, Japanese names

Examples: Gaiden Shinji, Sura al-Sentinel (Cyrus of Sentinel), Frandar do Hunding Hel Ansei No Shira (The Noble Sword-Saint, Frandar of the Hunding Desert)

Imagine if DC did this with the Jason Todd story

Imagine if Bruce was grieving jason so bad he had cadmas clone him

Like he blackmails them into making a jason clone the fallout would be terrible

Dick would be disgusted, Alfred would almost quit Barbara wouldn’t be able to look at him

Tim would still happen cause Bruce would be so overprotective of jay he’d hurt people so bad tim got involved and help rebuild the bat family

Worst of all when jason is revived he’d be so devastated that he was that replaceable on top of his death not being avenged

Like he’d would go on his rampage worst than ever on top of the body and setting up the joker kill choice for Bruce he’d also steal the clone and make him pick who he loves more

(I imagine if there was any gaps in jays dna he’d use his own to cover it making jay biologically his son which would hurt Jason more)

And Bruce wouldn’t be able to pick like both are his sons he wants both and jason is just losing his mind while jay is realizing he’s a clone and everything makes since now

Both jays and Jason would go through so much after this jay would realize he’s a lie made to change what happen and a slap in Jason face

Jason is the cruel reality jay has to accept and Jason is forced to come to terms with jays existence

Bruce would has so much guilt and shame and would lose his son again but this time both of them as i doubt jay would stay after this and needs to discover who he really is

tim drake hcs after kon’s death. (pt. 2 of timkon hcs!!)

half of these aren’t hcs actually, they’re my interpretation of how tim felt after kon’s death

(so we all know tim’s great (/s) coping method after kon died right? lets do that with a little spice)

after kon died, tim was completely heartbroken. he wouldn’t let go of kon’s body for a very long time and the other heroes had to pull him away.

he thought about how batman would react. and of course the only reasonable reaction is to hide the pain and find a horrible coping mechanism.

he locked himself in his room until he can go out and look at someone’s face without tearing up again.

from that day onward, he stopped unmasking, to even the closest of people. if he does he won’t be able to hold it in.

every time someone asks him “are you okay, tim?” he says yes

and it breaks his heart a little every time knowing it was a lie.

he would sit by kon’s memorial for hours at a time and talk to him like he’s still alive.

tim sometimes would forget about the fact that kon is no longer here and then call out his name

only to look back and realise that kon was gone, he’s no longer here anymore and he won’t be.

he have done this in front of people a couple of times and he says “sorry it’s a habit.” and they move on

well not before tim mentally slapping himself for slipping up.

batman doesn’t slip up.

he kept up this charade until he couldn’t anymore. he needed something to ground him, to give him hope again.

so tim started a project that cadmas once did; he tried to clone his best friend.

the first few attempts gave him hope, the failure rate going down every time.

of course he kept it a secret from everyone but it only became harder to keep as time went on.

his grief and depression became worse after dozens of failed attempts.

he would have meltdowns in the cave and now he doesn’t have anyone to comfort him.

timeskip to when kon gets revived.

so by this time, tim stopped his cloning attempts and now he lost more people.

but obviously he still hasn’t gotten over kon just yet.

when kon found tim in paris the only thought in tim’s head was:

you’re not real. you’re a hallucination.

because, after multiple tries of cloning him, he can’t just get revived right?

it’s just another hallucination.

and tim still hasn’t moved on.

When danny woke up with a panicked expression the bats realized maybe using Constantine to make a lock on phantom while he healed was not a great idea. Oracle being used to send an emergency message to the rather large team Phantom had built (amity park high school students from danny's class, jack, maddie, val, Dan(dark danny), Dani, the ghost rouges, orginal team phantom, (maybe a redeemed vlad)). So they don't get captured by the illegal reformed GIW, (a secret branch of cadmas)

Danny had been working with the Justice League for the last few years. He liked working with the Bats the best. They were stunning really, powerless yet some of the most effective heroes out there. They moved like ghosts, and not his type of ghost.

But they were just allies, coworkers at most, they worked together occasionally, Danny would help out when he could. the bats would smile and vanish into the night. They were coworkers, so really why were they over reacting.

He needed a safe house, because his cover was blown. He'd left Amity in a rush, bleeding, and with more broken bones than he'd have wished. But he was fine.

except apparently the Bats disagreed. Batman himself was looking at him in horror, his mouth slightly agape. The collection of Birds looked smaller, all with slightly varying expressions.

"Hi," Danny says weakly looking over the city, they'd agreed to meet at an abandoned observatory, their general meeting place. "Sorry for the intrusion, but I need a place to stay.." he hoped they'd say yes. He couldn't reach out to the other league members, they wouldn't understand.

But the Bats might, they too had a reputation of being dangerous, and the general public didn't know how to feel about them. Maybe they'd understand, and if not it would be better than going to Superman or something.

"What happened to you?" His voice sounds so shocked and worried, practically dripping with concern. "Are you okay?"

"Fine," Danny waves his hand wincing, he's out of suit, wearing jeans and a tee shirt, blood drips through them, radioactive green, with some barely noticeable red specks. Is it just him or is the room really blurry?

"Sure," Red Hoods voice drips with sarcasm, "Lets get you to the med bay," Danny startles at that.

"Med bay?" he stammers "I hardly need medical attention?" he laughs and then coughs some blood up. "I just need a place, for a day, I promise I'll be gone by morning?" He hopes they say yes.

"Phantom you need professional medical attention," Robin scolds him.

"I really don't," He protests tensing at the idea of a hospital, "You're overreacting."

"Phantom, you look like your about to pass out?" Red Hood scoffs, at least Danny thinks he does it's rather hard to tell with the helmet.

"That's because I haven't slept in like forever" He rolls his eyes, "I just need rest honestly." He crosses his arms, ignoring the spinning lights..

Shit why is everything spinning, he thinks he hears someone shout "Phantom!" Really they're overreacting he thinks as it fades to black.

He's able to have an ear ring because it was originally a tag from Cadmas. It says " S 13" as he was the 13th attempt at cloning Superman

So you know how Kon is often drawn with piercings? But Kryptonians are so invulnerable regular razors don't even work for them to shave? Kryptonite Had to be involved in him getting his piercings, Who do you think he trusted enough to give him piercings?! Is this covered in the comics?!?!?

It had been a long evening. It had started with Cadaver taking Lovely Laces out to dinner so he'd be able to enjoy a time out with his lover in some form at least. But Lovely Laces was oh so lovely. The stallion and the mare went to dinner, they saw a show, walked around one of the public parks all before coming back to their mansion in the hills and Almas was able to come before the black stallion. Then Rascal walked up with a small box on his back, rubbing on the shadhavar. "Almas..."

The shadhavar had been walking down the hall, almost the same way Rascal was, tail up and curling happily. She stopped and looked down to discover the box. 

“What’s this?” Almas floated the box up and she went completely still.

Her crimson eyes shot to Cadaver before landing on the box again. Almas went into the living room and set the box down.

No, that couldn’t be it. Nobody would ever...

She pushed that thought out of her head. It was probably a fancy watch or something.

Her ears pinned back as she went to open it slowly with her hoof. The pregnant shadhavar almost fumbled backwards at what she saw.
