Hi! I have a question about the melanin beam event (two actually):

Would making hero forge figures be acceptable for an art submission since even with some things kind of limited there can, if done well, be a decent degree of subtlety to the sculpt and coloring (and my actual drawing skills are like, literal stick figure drawing levels of bad)

If I did some Black redesigns of characters from Howl's Moving Castle like Howl and Sophie as well, would it be acceptable to make a Black human-ized design of Calcifer as well? I ask this because while I'm 10000% sure there are plenty of human-ized fan designs of him, I wouldn't want to fall into that trope of "look, now there's a Black character, the human form of this non-human character". So would it be alright to make a design of him if other main & human characters are also included in the melanin beam or would it be best to only make them and avoid making a human-ized Calcifer? (I really hope my wording makes sense on this one, I'm sorry if it doesn't!)

Could you give us a guide on how bots reproduce with each other? And how things would vary with a human partner?

A variety of ways, but this will focus on sexual reproduction specifically, so:

Cybertronian-Cybertronian

The most common method is the sparklet transfer. This happens when two or more mecha consistently share sparks to splinter off an orb that will eventually form a stable sparklet.

A popular method as there's no mess associated with sticky reproduction.

Doesn't require the carrier to have a gestational chamber or reproductive hardware.

If the carrier lacks a dense spark, then they'll need other mecha's spark energy to ensure the orb will remain stable and their own spark doesn't gutter trying to feed it.

This requires the carrier to have medical intervention as the sparklet will need to be 'snipped' off to transfer to lab-derived sentio metallico to build their frame or in the Newspark Intensive Care and Recovery Unit (NICRU) to keep a close observation for any rejection between a sparklet and a chosen proto-frame.

If the sparklet isn't taken away, the draw would overwhelm the carrier as the sparklet wouldn't receive the code to descend down to build their frame. Instead, keep drawing on more energy until death from spark burnout and chamber calcification occurs.

This is the stage where other mechs that aren't the ignitor can influence the upcoming sparkling and pass on their own code. Enough effort and a third party can completely overwrite the ignitor.

Carriage (or in some circles, true or full carriage) is the specific method where a gestational chamber is used to bring a newspark to term.

The first phase is the same as the sparklet method, and should the carrier have a functional gestational chamber and reproductive hardware, then a matured sparklet will receive a code to immediately snap away from the carrier's spark to descend down through a specialized funnel to stay in the gestational chamber.

With carriage, the carrier uses their valve to take in transfluid to provide construction materials and nanites for the sparklet to use.

Once the sparklet descends, the outside party influence is minimal. Donors can give transfluid without passing direct code to the sparkling.

Heats can occur as a latch-ditch attempt for the carrier to call for donors as their frame can't sufficiently support the carriage.

An active gestational chamber will expand over the course of the newspark's development.

Emergence is similar to a human. Chamber will shift downward, and newspark is born head-first via contractions through the valve (or the primary valve should the carrier have two valves).

Cybertronian-Human

It's all carriage method. However, a very specific kind:

A very rare phenomenon where all stages of sparklet formation takes place in the gestional chamber.

Highly dangerous as the orb still requires energy to feed itself, so it pulls on the peripheral tendrils on their carrier and feeds on the residual energy from transfluid.

An incredibly high-risk carriage in Cybertronians as the danger lurks where the sparklet doesn't receive the code to detach itself from the carrier's spark.

Plus coding and priority tree complications in the carrier as their frame doesn't realize they're carrying.

Human pregnancy doesn't run that risk since they don't have sparks.

In a human carrier, the orb forms in the uterus and nourishes itself via transfluid and the ambient energy from the carrier's bioelectricity.

When the orb matures to a sparklet, it deploys connective tendrils to funnel nutrition to it. The tendrils attach to the womb and cause nanites to create zones of platelets in the organ to efficiently gather materials from their carrier's body and sire(s)' transfluid.

Cybertronian sires will be more defensive over a human carrier since donors can influence the carriage. However, it's a short-lived state as a human carriage happens at an accelerated pace compared in a Cybertronian carrier.

Far more common for a human female to be a carrier than a human male to sire, but should a human male manage the far-fetched odds on siring upon a Cybertronian with a functional gestational chamber, then the couple would require a third to act as a donor to keep up with the development as the Cybertronian carrier can not rely on supplemental infusions in this kind of carriage.

In the "Howl's Moving Castle" movie, I was always kind of taken aback by Madame Suliman's identical blond boy servants and how closely Howl resembles them. Strict uniforms are definitely a thing, that blond hair could be dyed or could just be wigs or it could all be an illusion to disguise what they really look like, and it would fit the extravagance that we see of the palace to have such an absurd dress code for apprentices / servants.

But yeah, my first thought was clones or magical creations of some kind.

If not for the scene showing Howl as a boy meeting Calcifer, and I think a mention of having a wizard uncle when he and Sophie visit the flower field... (And also if not for having actually read the book and knowing Howl's backstory in that universe, but if the book didn't exist and the secret backstory there wasn't so funny...) then I would wonder about Howl having actually been created by Madame Suliman in some fashion. I mean, you could still do Secret Magical Clone Backstory as an AU for the movie 'verse: Howl could totally be lying about having a wizard uncle and the dark hair in the flashback could be a childhood rebellion thing.

It adds a whole extra layer of "what the fuck, this was never going to work" to Sophie briefly pretending to be Howl's mother to get him out of having to fight in the war, which is funny to me. I always got the vibe that Madame Suliman knew the "Mrs. Pendragon" bit was 100% fake from the beginning. And I think it would be funny to have Sophie yell at Howl for making her a distraction.

Anyway, I feel like movie 'verse Sophie could immediately cure Howl's upset over not being blond anymore by asking him if he also used to have to dress up like those boys when he was Madame Suliman's apprentice, and if he'd been trying to look like that still. (It's possible that the blond servant outfit of Suliman's servants and Howl's early outfits were just both of them separately trying to keep up with the latest fashions. The uniform may have looked entirely different when Howl was an apprentice.) "Is that the look you were going for?" Sophie asks dubiously, and Howl spends at least the next three days having a fashion crisis.

CODE NAME: Hound

NAME: Matteo [unknown] (not related to wolfsbane I just love the name)

Age: 25

Mutation: bear brute + wolf instincts, heightened senses, blood calcification

Mateo was born with visible mutation, being fuzzy and with tail. He would be surrendered to a research facility where extensive tests got performed on him to bring about any other mutations, till the age of 5.

While being transported to a Canadian lab his crate fell off the truck bed in the middle of the wintery forest. All by himself and his instincts to stay alive (hard because he comes from the southern desert) He would eventually stumble apon SABRETOOTH. Staying hidden and never getting in his way, just observing and learning from a safe distance. A few times Mateo would get slashed mistaken as prey but looked weak and small (literally just a dirt clump of fur at this point) Sabretooth deemed him not worth it and would leave him in the snowy wilderness (ofc growling and spitting insults at Mateo in the process but it only made him tremble and stay near). It'd go on like this till age 13 when he raids a cabin and kills his first human. He isn't phased at first , witnessing Sabretooth do it all the time and quite brutally, until he hears screaming. This becomes a big trigger for him as his ears are incredibly sensitive, he would go on to slash throats in fear. During these formative years he does encounter several other things (still kinda fleshing him out), he'd find the facility he was supposed to go to and turns out its an Essex owned one. Mateo thinks he would have lived a better life if he had gone to the facility (its fake home style on the outside charade convincing him because he's kinda stupid and doesn't remember the experiments held on him since he was so young) he would linger around the facility before being shot at and captured by the lab. Torture but it's a somewhat warm place that he has been without so he endures, till his second mutation manifests.

Secondary is blood can calcify and be turned into a weapon, or be used as self defense when wounded. Spiking outward of an open wound to prevent further damage. This was result of the endless experiments done to him. Of which he would volunteer to protect younger mutants from the brutal.

He would be rescued by the x men at age 17. A harsh relearning of trust and communication, having not opened his mouth to form words only grunts and growls. Resulting in a strained voice and cracks. He would join new mutants and so on (trying to place him in any of the timelines so damn hard but yk)

(also of course he grew an attachment to Logan because lab rats and also witnessing Sabretooth fighting him which gained a constant need to fight him too. Admiring him so much and tries to be "cool" like him but fumbles)

Personality wise, he's constantly on guard and doesn't do well with new people. Sniffing constantly for intentions and ulterior motives. Crumbles when given affection and shakes uncontrollably because again it's rare he got gentleness but it can and is always used against him. A very big weakness is once he's shown praise or that you've gained his trust , he'll be hooked and on your side no matter what. Devotion is his downfall, he's such a dumbass.

I’ve cracked the code I know why I love Marcille x Chilchuck so much. They’re literally just like Howl’s Moving Castle Howl and Sophie. Okok indulge me for a sec I’m about to dump so many pics and ramble for a bit. I want you to see my marchil vision. It’s fabulous extra cringefail hopeless romantic drama queen x grumpy old sad angry caring hardworking person cursed to be here & cursing fate and giving tough love to everything in a miles radius. No one is safe. From either of them. Calcifer or Micheal is Izutsumi. Wait wait no Calcifer is Senshi and Michael is Izutsumi. Senshi as Calcifer works bc Calcifer is just chained to Howl and is there reminding Howl to not die and take care of himself, giving hints about how to break the curse to Sophie, also the fire demon cooks the eggs and bacon checkmate. And then LAIOS IS TURNIP HEAD OH MY GOD THAT WORKS OUT PERFECTLY. Chilchuck & Marcille, screaming terrified of the weird scarecrow chasing after them, meanwhile the weird scarecrow that’s harmless: :(. Wizard Suliman is Falin and the second fire demon is Winged Lion, so bam everything comes full circle.

I’m assuming most people who’ll see this post maybe saw the movie but not the book, and what you need to know is that the movie makes Howl so much dreamier and collected and cool, whereas in the book he’s just a drama queen 24/7 that’s it. He’s a wet cat dressed in expensive sparkly glittery gowns that needs to be yelled at to do anything he needs to do. He complains. He bemoans. Meanwhile Sophie is, honestly pretty like in the movie? Less contrarian and anger issues but will grumble and yells while cleaning nonetheless. Hardworking but will pathetically sit down on a chair in a dark corner to cry about her aching bones and OHH this is ALL because she’s the eldest child and she was doomed for unhappiness and no one can ever love her… So she’ll whack everyone into order and purge her feelings through aggressive cleaning and using weed killer. IS THIS NOT GIVING MARCILLE & CHIL TO YOU?!

Tell me this isn’t so Marcille. Tell me Chil wouldn’t run away from home thinking he’s failed life and is no longer in shape to work and now has to waddle in self-pity, seeking out wizards which he hates and finds shady bc it’s his last option, and then end up a maid & cleans everything out of spite and also worry for the person living there. Tell me Marcille wouldn’t throw a depressed slime tantrum so bad that it causes a partial town evacuation because her wails summon unknown horrors, over her HAIR. Forget slime she’d blow up the house instantly. She would breakdance as refusal to go see the king. Chilchuck would call her a slitherer-outer and she would gasp in offense and they’d have a fight.

Marcille having full on poems laying around and then Chil & Izu seeing them and being like "Ah yes, this must be a spell, it makes no sense and is so extra, just like how silly our resident witch and her magic is". Izutsumi going "Okay peepaw I’ll teach you how to use a magical bucket just take one step forward-" and they immediately fuck it up and they’re left stranded in far unknown lands. Chilchuck complaining that HIS BACK HURTS. And at every turn or something mildly inconveniencing him "NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS TO THE MIDDLE CHILD".

And can we talk about the aging motif, the curse… Marcille never letting herself grow close to someone even though she does all these grand gestures for them at first. Meanwhile her fear of loss stares at her straight in the eye whenever she looks at 90 years old Chilchuck, and her deciding to not run away from their relationship is what ends up healing both of them. She gets over her fear of intimacy and he grows over feeling like a terribly dull unlovable failure. Me sobbing when I remember how Sophie’s curse of being old is a self-inflicted manifestation of herself thinking she’s romantically unlovable and weak…….

Deku gets help from all might and wins (in the myth aphrodite gives the winner golden apples which distract atalanta, not sure how this would play out in this ver)

8. Howl’s Moving Castle au (book ver). Controversially, I have deku as howl, katsuki as Sophie & sentient OFA as calcifer. I can and Will back this up. (Kaminari as Martha/youngest sister who wants to marry rich and be a mom) & Uraraka as Lettie (middle sister who wants to be rich off her own hard work) (I actually have the whole cast planned out)

Hi, me again. I hope you enjoy being appreciated because a few days back I’ve commented on ao3 under Honest Lie how I’m not sure about reading Pieces (fear of angst) and now I have reached act 3 of it and I have no words for how it kept me on my toes all this time. I love the vampire soul concept and I am also a Spuffy preacher through and through so it makes me even more happy that I can read about it somewhere. Generally, Buffy is one of my favorite fandoms and I believe it to be a pop cultural gem of its times. (also - Angel is such a boring person in Buffy, though he does do way better in his own spin-off. And he has a very high voice? Or is it just me?) I fell in love with Spike when he asked if he can bum a fag, lol. But also - Giles, omg. Rewatched recently and Giles is hnnggg.

I wanted to ask if the general soul-shape was inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle concept? The way Rose held on to it you know when reminded me of Sophie so much. And I loved it of course, I even cried a little!

Second thing I wanted to ask - have you ever seen ‘The Magicians’? It has this amazing plotting that reminds me of someone’s campaign where everything goes wrong and whatever you do you have to fix it afterwards and it of course causes other things to go wrong. I have a feeling you would love it. Also - it’s fucking heartbreaking at times and has amazing characters and archs.

So... I did not realise Pieces was Howl's Moving Castle until so late in the game. Truly embarrassing of me. Fake fan behaviour. Picture me at 2am, staring at my ceiling at around the point Chapter 10 came out, shouting "FUCK." But i didn't deliberately lean into the imagery, in the way you think - I'm not saying that parallel is not there (it is and it jumpscared me).

The image of the soul/Jarstarion came during the outlining stage from the fact that everyone at the time was talking about Astarion's name meaning Star (we were that early into the discourse around his character, this is months ago now) and so it left me with this image of the soul looking like starlight, in reference to that. Obviously that means it's also calcifer coded. bc calcifer is also... a star. (HOW DID I NOT SEE THE HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE PARALLELS. HOW? HOW????)

I haven't seen the Magicians! I know the books have a bit of a reputation for being edgelord fodder so it put me off the tv show, but I'll be sure to check it out :)

Heyheyhey soooo I'm a computer nerd and also a Stardew Valley modder, so this is a pretty niche group I'm calling to, but lets hope

So, I adopted a dog in Stardew and named it Kiwi without thinking I gave him the wrong name

(all my animal names are themed. My pets are named after trees. My coop animals are named after fruits. I was saving the name Kiwi for a rabbit :( I wanted the dog to be named Oak, I just spaced out while naming him)

So I went into the game's code and tried to change it to 'oak'but it keeps reverting back to Kiwi. I deleted the old saves and changed the current save's code. But I also have Calcifer, Spacecore, and Content Patcher installed. Can I override these if they're the issue? Pleaseeee someone help me this is pissing me offffff theyreoff theme :(

I randomly picked up Howl's moving castle to read and it's astonishing how dw Flux coded this is... Or the other way round, I guess.

13 is howl, Yaz is sophie, Dan is Michael and calcifer is the TARDIS.

Yaz would absolutely yell at 13 that she slithers out of things because she doesn't like unpleasant things. A slitherer-outer indeed.

Soooo as a stupid thought experiment I was trying to think of a way to do a Howl's Moving Castle Astarion/Tav AU...which is harder than I thought bc Gale is so obviously Howl-coded and Astarion would be more like a Witch of the Waste Character

BUT if we do go with Astarion being Howl, it would be something like Cazador has an army of vampire spawn he militarizes for the King. The Calcifer role I'm thinking could either be Gale or a mixture of Gale + the Artifact releasing him from Cazador's influence. But it's still not fleshed out :/

Shadowheart fills the role of Nettie/Sophie's family, though I don't think they would be blood-related. Perhaps grew up together. I imagine Viconia and the Sharrans are also working for the king.

Karlach as Markl and Wyll as Turniphead. Lae'Zel searching for the artifact could conceivably be a Witch of the Waste type.

Idk, I saw a couple of other people in the tag kicking around a howls au so that's my two cents lol
