🦜Apollo Justice trilogy (the rant/analysis)🎵✨
Welcome! Allow me to specify what this rant is about:
The game, Apollo Justice (2007 - 2008)
The characters (Apollo, Phoenix, and the Gavin brothers)
The wasted potential (i.e. the other games) (I'm most familiar with AA1-4 the others i've briefly looked at)
Just angry thoughts at 3am
[⚠️SPOILERS FOR APOLLO JUSTICE + TRILOGY!⚠️]
[also the ⚪bulleted points⚪ are facts, the rest is my subjective yapping]
Before I begin my rant, here's some basic information about the game's development:
It's the last game directed by Shu Takumi. The rest of the trilogy is directed by his assistant (Takeshi Yamazaki) meanwhile Shu was busy with the Professor Layton crossover + The great ace attorney.
Capcom literally demanded to insert Phoenix into the game. Shu was against putting Phoenix in, feeling that his story has already come to a natural conclusion, stating, "I felt that Phoenix's story had been told, and that the series should not continue. Knowing when to end a story is very important and I wanted to avoid dragging it out and having it become a shadow of its former self." (Takumi)
In the end, Shu was forced to put Phoenix in, and we got hobo Phoenix, or as I like to call him, Beanix.
Okay so, a brief pause. From what we already know, there is a conflict of interests during development. We have a small group of artists that did a small project called ✨Ace Attorney✨ and then the corporate realized they're sitting on a goldmine. Capcom did not want their mascot, their cash cow, Phoenix Wright, to go just yet. Shu (who wanted a fresh start, and creative freedom) was torn, his team was torn between letting Phoenix go and bringing him in, and you notice that in the game as it goes back and forth. It goes between Phoenix being a main character, interfering, or disappearing for long periods of time. It was on and off, just like their arguments - corporate vs. creative freedom, old vs. the new.
It creates an... odd atmosphere throughout the game. This indecision and forcefulness. Opinions vary 🙃
The corporate unfortunately won. We had Phenix back, not in his former glory, but as a character. (Result? Apollo feels less like a protagonist, suffering, feeling irrelevant in his own game. Not always, of course! But most of the time...)
Facts continue! Apollo Justice (AA4) is the last game with 2D sprites, with some rare 3D elements. (Like Cheeto Klavier🧡)
btw, here's some name puns and meanings:
Apollo is literally named after the god of truth.
"Klavier" means "Piano" in German 🎹 - his Japanese name, Kyoya, means, "to echo/resound".
Kristoph's Japanese name, Kirihito (霧人), when reversed (人斬り - hitokiri) literally translates to "the killer".
Trucy's name pun, Trucy Wright, is supposed to sound like "see-through" (tru-through cy-see)
Lamiror = mirror, Wocky Kitaki = Walkie-Talkie, Drew Misham = Draw-me-a-sham, etc.
Okay, so. About the 1️⃣first case1️⃣: It's a widely accepted opinion that the first trial is the best one, and it's hard to disagree. It's a completely new thing (almost as if Shu was planning on starting an entirely new trilogy without Phenix Wright! Can you imagine?!--) and because the first trial is so good, with a great twist and a fun conclusion, other trials pale in comparison. Let's see, we have a new quirky protagonist (he's fine) a gentleman for a mentor (a character with depth, as we will come to know) a fallen attorney with shady history (Mr. Phenix Wright) along a complex, yet understandable, mystery. What is lovely about the first case is that it makes you think just enough, the trial flows nicely for the sub-plot to come out, and the twist is perfect.
Of course, I imagine that Japanese players might have seen the twist coming a bit earlier, looking at Kristoph's name-pun, but all-in-all it's a great start! The question is - is it a great start for the new franchise that Shu wanted to make? Is it a great start for Apollo as an attorney and as a character? ...Or, is it a great start, for the old greedy company to push good old Phoenix back into spotlight and collect more money? 🤔🤔🤔
Here's some facts about the direction the game hoped to take:
The game delved into darker themes on purpose, like a "grown up" version of Ace attorney for the next generation. It was hoping to shift the tone from the previous three games more towards realism. (AA1 was a bit comedic, we cross-examined a parrot, the crimes were less complex compared to AA3. With AA4, the idea was to make AA3 but better.) It tried to set Apollo as a more independent lawyer, trusting no one, without any mentor (like Mia in previous games) coming back every other case.
With the first case, Apollo becomes independent in a sense, but... well.
Apollo basically third-wheeled in Phoenix/Kristoph divorce. That's basically what happened in that trial. Somehow, we managed to shift all the attention from Apollo's character growth into these two men. Apollo's independent now because he got left alone in the trash while the AA team tries to figure out what the fuck to do with Phoenix and how to shove the whole thing together.
The entire game was made with the idea of change, a fresh start & fresh blood in mind! We don't get much character growth from the main characters AT ALL because, at some point in development, there was a decision made: They thought they will make a sequel. AA games so far relied on story continuity, chronological events, time passing, characters evolving, events making an impact on the characters, etc.
Apollo Justice, a beginning game of a trilogy, was written specifically in a way to have a sequel. There were things left unanswered for a reason. They took things slow, and the idea of the sequel was planned to go more into the Gramarye troupe, Gavin brothers, and Apollo's family. (Shu even had an entire backstory written for the Gavin brothers, but it was scrapped by the new team) (I'll get into it later.) This was also the reason why the game had potential, but never went all the way. The plot was more complex, and was made specifically with a direct continuation in mind, which never came to pass. We instead got... an entire rework. (again, i'll get into it later 😂)
Some art facts, since i'm an artist: They were thinking over a few variants of the character designs before they settled on the current ones. They wanted to have a protagonist more energetic than Phoenix, more blunt, an idealist, less bluffing, like a new generation kid kinda-thing. Apollo has distinct spiky hair, is different, is less tall, has a wide forehead... did you know, the design team had a few designs with different forehead wide-nesses? Wild. Apollo's color scheme is Godot's inverted, and as far away from Phoenix's dark blue design as possible (gee I wonder why...)
(Also, the Gavin brothers originally had two mirrored pointy hair-swirls, resembling pharaoh head covers, and I think that's dope as hell)
Either way, you must admit that the designs for this game are more detailed, colorful, animated, and beautiful. Honestly!!! 💖 The art direction did splendidly, and I'm glad at least that aspect wasn't affected by the disagreements of the company vs. writers :)
Fun fact: The game sold well, actually. Back in the day, people were into original ideas, instead of everything getting a live-action remake nobody asked for, an animated reimagining, and an unnecessary second part. (...Can you tell I'm dissing Disney? You can.)
Now that I'm at a point where I can speak of continuations, let's see what happened: The game released as is. It had a story, sometimes a bit awkward because of the team vs. company disagreements being physically felt through the script. People bought it and the fandom was immediately split down the middle into various factions. (Again, I was young, but this point of contention is strong even today.)
People who liked the new ideas, characters, and plot, and liked Phoenix Wright being there.
People who liked the new ideas, characters, and plot, but disliked Phoenix Wright's presence. (my stance right now)
People who disliked the new things because they wanted the same old Phoenix Wright games. They wanted everything that has already concluded, to continue. (my stance 6 years ago - Since it wasn't believable that a guy like Phoenix Wright, with so many friends, would end up like this. It was so unrealistic to me, so odd, that I refused to see this game as canonical. Literal denial 🥲🥲🥲)
People who disliked the game despite being ready for new content, just because.
Next up, 7 YEARS PASS.
Yup. The disagreement, the dissatisfaction from the creators vs. company, split fan reactions, despite a fine profit, caused a change of direction, and a rift. Characters and story-lines forgotten. Literally.
The next entries after Apollo Justice don't mention the events of it -because of a company-enforced "no spoiler/connection" restrictions. Capcom created the restriction to appeal to new fans, while not spoiling previous games so they might be compelled to play them. (Again, corporate wins over… continuity, this time.) - Which means the bare minimum of character growth and history we could have seen IS NOW GONE and will never be brought into relevancy again. (unless I missed something from the 3D games, in which case let me know.)
And we get a complete overhaul, while going back to the classic AA, but this time we get a new cast to focus on and begin again and we pretend Apollo Justice doesn't exist! (Rant number 4, here we go 🥴)
My main rant so far would be about wasted potential and creative differences. Yes, they weren't strong enough to do a clean break from the past (Capcom forcing Phoenix back, not letting him "die" even though his story concluded) Yes, there's wasted potential because character growth of the protagonist is stunted by greed and confusion (Capcom demands? Fine. Phoenix must be here to appeal to all fans, for all the money. Ok. Cool. We can't be creative anymore and original ideas are shunned! 2008? Bah, nothing has changed in 2024!) and yes, the game's story suffers because of this, despite being very pleasing to look at (the sprites & animations don't hit quite the same anymore.)
I'm not even gonna go into how Apollo was forgotten and suddenly he has four backstories because he failed to establish himself solid in his introductory game without a planned sequel, and Capcom was like "Oh shit this guy exists, um, what do we do" - while also refusing to address and build upon plot points existing in the main game: Apollo had history in court. He had a character building event of incarcerating his mentor. Apollo already had family, which hasn't told him anything yet. He had Trucy. He had a courtroom rival, which he promised to rid of darkness. He gained a new mentor, a shady one, who he punched to the face! He saw the dark side of the law. He saw the "dark age of the law". He saw a better way to do things and fix the system with a jury, which was used once and forgotten about. He had a goal. He had potential... - but then he has been rebuilt and redesigned four times, given things he already had and replaced them and Capcom pulled a nonexistent best friend out of their ass out of nowhere just to give Apollo fake-depth and use (i had to look him up) CLAY TERRAN as A ONE-OFF PLOT POINT and I HATE BAD WRITING LIKE THAT, MAKING A CHARACTER that's just there for that one purpose and---🤬
I'm also not gonna go into the fact that a case-specific NPC gets more character growth than the main cast.
And I also won't rant about the 3D continuations of AA. All I'm gonna say is that, they shouldn't be under a name "Apollo Justice Trilogy" because, what the fuck happened to that guy. Who is he even? What? What game are you basing this on? Who?
The game was like a failed start to do something new... and not achieving it, stopping short of crossing the final line bravely.
This was 3 am. yapping, I hope to inspire discussion, roast my opinions I love to argue over nerdy shit 💖🥰💖

Everyday I thank the gods fighting games aren’t popular so I don’t have to deal with the mandom mass hate smearing Chun Li because she pulled a gun on Ken
#Chun’s not perfect#and capcoms used her position as a cop to portray her heelishly a number of times#but christ can you imagine mainstream nerd reaction to that#can you imagine if they did that in a MOVIE and not a comic#to be fair the tiny fg fandom can’t even handle Reina#Chun and even characters like Nina tend to get a pass because we were introduced to them as small children#the same reason Princess Leia isn’t the most hated SW character for being sooooo toxic to the boys#sentimentality prevents the patriarchal brain rot from taking hold#honestly the only reason I think Juri isn’t hatemobbed is because she only bullies female characters#men don’t get more than verbal roasting from her#I believe this played a huge part in why C Viper wasn’t well received#all that said the fgc is mostly male and mostly masochisic males at that#and the female fans tend to be bisexual#so unless these franchises blow up to marvel level popularity which is unlikely I don’t have much to worry about#then again I think any new fans trying to come for a character like. hun would get labeled tourists and torn to shreds anyway

Ok now, going a bit crazy over ships, I find way more compelling the ground they are laying for the whole Daemon/Alys/Heleana/Aemond than the book dinamics. I mean we don't get a lot of what happened between Alys and Daemon on the book, but makes sense she takes his body after the fight and Heleana dying in possible the same day of Aemond. And now even Alys and Heleana connection
I think is not even that purposeful, but the potential here is way more interesting than they just going with Al*smond. Specially most of the things that are connected to that relationship is giving to other characters.
It depends really ...
I always liked Alys as a character in the book, I thought she was cool.
But going back through the book, in retrospect, it doesn't really seem that Aemond and Alys is a ... complicit relationship. The more I've thought and analyzed it, the more it feels that Alys put a spell on Aemond. Cause, Aemond, once he starts sleeping with Alys, gets really out of character, to a point of leaving his family twisting in the wind to pursue a reign of terror through the Riverlands that didn't particularly fit him.
I mean, Aemond was always dangerous and violent ... but he's not going out roasting castles and keeps for the fuck of it. Nor would he be someone who would leave Daeron and Criston twisting in the wind to engage seven fucking dragons on their own.
To me, it really does feel like Aemond is under some sort of enchantment of Alys for reasons that GRRM doesn't reveal.
But it would be interesting, based on the interview with Patel about Aemond and Helaena's relationship. It could be that Aemond gets to Harrenhal and Alys is enchanting him, holding him up from helping Daeron. Helaena escapes King's Landing - perhaps even fakes her own death - and goes to Harrenhal. When she gets there, Helaena frees Aemond from Alys influence and we have a showdown between Helaena and Alys that matches Aemond and Daemon. With each Targaryen Prince having their own magical girl as their ride or die.
It would be pretty interesting to have Aemond & Helaena Vs. Daemon & Alys and build that up for Season 3.
That would be some pretty dope boy fresh 8-bit fighting game art. With some "Marvel Vs. Capcom" screen art of Aemond and Helaena standing together in pose in a split screen with Daemon and Alys posing together.

I wanna know where this claim that devs at capcom intended Ashley and Leon to be platonic is coming from, i really do.
cause if they did, they sure as hell contradicted themselves big time
There was an article written for Game Informer during the pre-release of RE4make where the devs talked about revamping Ashley's character from what she was like in OG, because they recognized that if the player hated Ashley (like many OG players did), they'd probably hate the game.
One of the things they improved re: Ashley was her relationship with Leon.
RE4make had two directors: Yasuhiro Ampo and Kazunori Kadoi
Kadoi wanted Leon to hold Ashley's hand during gameplay, but Ampo didn't like it and shot down the idea.
This is the exact quote:
The translation from the original Japanese quote to what was written in the English article seems... unpolished. The text of the article says that this was just an idea pitched during concept drafting, but Kadoi's quote sounds more like the handholding was something that was actually implemented in the game but then taken out when Ampo didn't like it. Without seeing the original Japanese of what Kadoi actually said, it's impossible to know what actually happened there.
We also don't know what Kadoi meant by saying "Ampo thought it looked like [Leon and Ashley] were too close." Fandom has taken it to mean that Ampo thought that Leon and Ashley looked too close in their relationship, but with how shaky the translation here seems to be, he could have just as easily meant that they looked too close physically and took up too much space on the screen in a way that negatively impacted gameplay.
But regardless of when and how it happened, the fandom took this quote from Kadoi and played a game of telephone with it. A lot of context and nuance is missing from Kadoi's quote to begin with, which made it really easy to twist his words. Personally, I don't see how Leon leading Ashley around by the hand like she was a child would be something that a grown man like Ampo would see as romantic -- it just comes off as patronizing and infantilizing to me -- but, again, there are pieces of this story that are clearly missing on top of the poor translation.
But even if Ampo did shoot down the handholding because he thought that they looked too romantically entangled or whatever, the fact of the matter remains that it was only just his personal, solitary opinion and objection. And from the way Kadoi tells the story, it sounds like he (Kadoi) is still a little bit miffed about it -- it sounds like it was something he really wanted to have in the game.
It also bears keeping in mind that Kadoi said this as a fun, throwaway little anecdote that was meant more as a jab at Ampo than anything else -- not a serious statement about intention that he wanted players to make note of.
So the biggest detail that's missing here is: the context for how and why this decision was made. If this was something that Kadoi wanted in the game so badly -- to the point of openly roasting Ampo about it in interviews with Western games media -- then why did he relent and let Ampo's word supersede his? For all we know, this was part of a compromise of "I let you have your fairy tale, but this show of affection is too far."
But we don't know. And we can't know. Because we weren't in the room when it happened, and Kadoi didn't give us enough information for us to know.
What gets lost here is that Yasuhiro Ampo wasn't the only person who worked on the game -- and, in fact, wasn't even the only director for the game -- and his view on this clearly does not seem to speak for the entire dev team.
So what started with Kadoi saying "Ampo specifically didn't like the idea of Leon and Ashley holding hands during gameplay" morphed into "The devs didn't like the idea of Leon and Ashley holding hands [at all]" which then got twisted further into "The devs wanted to make sure that Leon and Ashley's interactions were seen strictly as platonic."
But that's not what was ever said.
And to be completely honest with you, this is such a tangential nothingburger of a quote that I'm sure that Kazunori Kadoi's forgotten that he ever even said it. Fandom gives way too much weight to this inconsequential, unserious little side story of nothing.

Fin or Bin: King Of Dragons
Belt scrollers are pretty fun, though I've never had the patience to get good at them; autofire controllers, cheat codes, and save states got me through many years of Golden Axe and Streets Of Rage. Now here's the Capcom Beatemup Bundle with seven of the blighters to completely fail at. During my surprise sabbatical from Tumblr, I played Knights Of The Round of the same collection, but King Of Dragons is the game I actually intended to play- its clear inspiration from DnD being a major draw, and I had seen it recommended elsewhere before.
In my review of Knights I remark that it is very barebones as these games go, with only a single attack combo. I now rescind that comment; a whole combo is quite the luxury in the stark world of Dragons where you have just one attack, at all, and no combos whatsoever. No grabs, no throws, no jumpkicks; the most exciting it gets is when you press jump and attack at the same time to use a magic spell which cuts your health to deal moderate damage to all enemies, and happens accidentally more often than not.
Fin or Bin:
It's a short review because there's just so very little to talk about. The theming is nice and it is unusual for player characters to have ranged attacks in these kinds of games, with Elf and Wizard firing an arrow or throwing a fireball respectively, but that's not enough to elevate it. Doubtless it's a laugh with friends, but that's a false metric- every belt scroller is more fun with friends. Don't feel too sad that these guys are being sent to the Bin, however- there's usually a full roast chicken in there for them to scoff.

Last-minute Summer Game Fest predictions:
Todd Howard will talk about how great the Fallout TV show is, to distract us from the fact that he hasn't made a good game without DOOM in the title in a decade.
Sony will remind us that the PS5 still exists, and has lots of games for it! ...Technically. If you squint.
Square will announce further unnecessary remakes of old Final Fantasy stuff, because they realize that anyone who knows those games is 40 now and doesn't game anymore, so why write new stories when you can just remake old ones for 19 year olds who don't recognize them? Plus then you don't have to pay any writers!
Ubisoft will announce a new That One Ubisoft Game, with a giant empty open-world that you have to pay them an additional $3 an hour to play, and everyone will immediately hate it and hate them. But they don't care what YOU think, because they make most of their money from shovelware now. You're lucky they even still make any games where a 30 year old white guy with brown hair is brooding near buildings!
FromSoftware will show a teaser for a new thing that will be beautiful and lore-heavy, that I will never play because those games are hard and I'm old and bad at video games.
Tons of new paid DLC for games that came out 6 months ago, you got bored with and didn't finish, and promptly forgot even came out. But now you can pay more to not play them!
Capcom will show off new entries into fighting game series that use cutting-edge advanced hardware and programming to make in HD and 3D what looks for all the world like a smoother Sega Genesis sprite game. And only 6 people will be able to explain how the hell the gameplay is different from the last 12 of these. And why anyone might care.
New JRPGs with incomprehensible titles that are that same story about sexy teens destroying the Devil with the power of friendship. If we're lucky, some may also include robots and/or giant monsters. If we're not, virtual card games. And it doesn't matter if we care about any of these, because they already came out in Japan and Korea and made $6 billion.
A racing game. For, you know. Those people.
Someone will tease a modern update of some long-dead 90s IP they bought when THQ exploded. It will look vaguely like an FPS, but won't be real gameplay, so who knows? Also this will never actually come out. Or if it does, it will be as a pay-to-win, IP-themed smartphone gambling thing.
An old out-of-touch Japanese executive will say something like "We know today's gamers believe in the power of AI as much as we do, so..." and he'll get roasted for it for a year. It will be the only thing from this anyone will remember.
Fornite will add characters from movies and YouTube that I don't recognize because I'm not 14.
Long-awaited PC ports of console exclusives. That everyone will be excited about, even though we all know that when they do come out, they won't work right for 3 months until fans patch them.
I know these are vague and not funny. But any AAA studio that used to do fun things has been bought by Activision or Microsoft, and either forced to make joke hats DLC, or they were shut down because no one bought the joke hats.

resident evil death island thoughts under the cut! :)
bruh this flick was WAY better than vendetta imo. no weird there-for-sex-appeal rebecca, no leon-murdering-countless-civilians-on-the-highway, much more empathetic villain— i loved arias, but his storyline was pretty much just another Dead Wife Revenge Plot.
could've done without maria in this though sorry she served no purpose except to choke leon with her latex bodysuit thighs. maybe that's enough of a purpose for other people but i'm a gay dude and for me. it was weird
not sure why i’ve seen so many fans hating on jill in this?? i’m obsessed with her arc. she's got all the suicidal tendencies we saw in chris in re6, up until the moment the strap of her bag gets caught in Final Form Dylan's shark mouth— and then she’s suddenly realizing what dying actually means, how scared she is to die, etc. LOVED that. and when chris says “glad you’re back” it feels like he means more than “glad you’re back in the field”. it’s more like “glad you’re here and in the moment and alive”, or “glad the jill i know is back”.
always happy to hear any mention of perfect boy scout piers nivans of course so that was a win for me. me watching death island like “here’s how nivanfield can still win—”
leon and jill’s rapport? jill being like :| while leon is spewing awful jokes left and right? thank you capcom for my dream duo
wish there was a little head nod to the fact that leon and claire have Beef currently? i have issues with infinite darkness but i was fascinated by the way they left that relationship on the rocks. would've been cool to see some more bickering/making up on that end!
by the way while we’re talking about leon? hands down my FAVORITE moment in the entire movie was dylan roasting everyone one-by-one, getting to leon and just straight up going “mr kennedy you work for the most corrupt politicians in america” and leon going “yup. it’s a living” GOODBYE
honestly i have very few critiques of this movie! it’s probably my favorite in the animated series so far, and i was really disheartened to see how bad the reviews were. if you’re looking for a fun semi-goofy ride with a big zombie shark and a villain haunted by perpetrator trauma this is the RE movie for you!!!

Also gotta love how when another dead person is like "you can't punish me for murder I was already executed lol" Mia just goes off on how that person is pathetic and a failure and will always be remembered as such and the roast went so hard that the other person got immediately exorcised.
And then Mia was like "ok you don't need me anymore, I'm heading to capcom's basement"
I LOOOOVE MIA FEY!!! I love how in 1-2 the case end with her just like. Actively in front of the judge blackmailing the witness abt his blackmail. And ur like “well I guess she’s dead so she has nothing to lose by pulling a batshit strategy like this?” And then u get to Mia is 3-1, in her *second case as a lawyer ever* and she ends the case by saying to the prosecution’s fucking face “you don’t believe me that this is poison? Ok motherfucker eat it right here right now” and ur like. Oh. She’s always been like this
#GIVE US MORE MIA CAPCOM#Doesn't have to be in court#Just have her like being channeled for funsies#Give me the Trucy and Mia dynamic we were ROBBED of#mia fey#ace attorney

I want to state I don't hate Kristoph or anything, I think I just get irritated sometimes at the attention the male characters in ace attorney get. I love Kristoph as a character and I've drawn and written about him a lot because he's cool! I just wish more people could give the leniency to female characters that they gave male ones. and Dahlia n Kristoph are good examples of similar characters for me.
why people should try to give Dahlia Hawthorne a chance (imagine this has been presented like a PowerPoint)
- she's so fucking funny first of all. fail girl of all time.
- literally got roasted so hard she went to hell
- so so much potential in her character
- Capcom mishandled her because they hate women but we don't have to hate women as well
- she killed a pedo, and someone who likes Britain (girl win!)
- she technically stopped Godot from his coffee addiction with an.. intervention. and it worked for a few years. to be polite.
- a woman
- a lesbian
- transgender
- her backstory is actually there even if it's a mess. unlike other poison loving gay ass characters.. (THIS IS A JOKE PEOPLE PLS DONT HATE ME I'M BEING SILLY N JESTFUL!)
- since her backstory and character is a mess you can just interpret her however u want and ur right!
- Capcom genuinely wrote her character while hating her and forgot that she was a child when Terry Fawkes "dated her" and that she was even YOUNGER when she apparently manipulated her father into dropping off Iris and abandoning her at a temple?? like you were so right for pointing this one out.
- It really feels like the narrative hates her more than it likes being a good story and smooth ride. It just wants to demonise her over and over again than write an impactful journey of a character becoming filled with hatred and jealousy.
- my femcel queen
- objectively the funniest character and also the most tragic (to me so actually not at all objective but but but)
- really good showing of how even though she was so distant from the Fey family and her bio mother, she still suffered due to their family's generational trauma and baggage.
- cool design!!!!!!!!!!
- incredibly underrated for the final villain of the ace attorney trilogy. Like other villains in ace attorney are cool and all but pls pls pls I know she's not a twink in a homoerotic relationship but she's so cool..
I think Dahlia Hawthorne could be really interesting if people gave her a chance and I really wish they would because as a person or someone who is seen as a girl a lot and demonised a bit due to my uh.. issues.. I find myself relating to parts of her character. Also evil women go fucking crazy, love em. This also kind of goes for Iris as well, she doesn't... really ever get talked about outside of her relationship with Phoenix n that's in part fault of the fandom AND Capcom (my sworn enemies.)
Anyway thanks for listening - or well reading! :3
anon while we have vastly different interpretations of her character you are so incredibly correct in the general message of it all. like..you are correct with every part of this obviously it's just the matter of me having a different approach, but people seeing her as someone only tied to phoenix is so real and true. what capcom did was make dahlia a manic pixie nightmare girl (a female character created solely for the development of the male lead but in an evil way this time) and tbh we need to reject those behaviors and come up with cool shit for her
actually that manic pixie nightmare girl thing was so smart of me to say. i love myself i'm the smartest girlboy alive. you are also a genius anon honestly go off with this?? if i were you i would already be creating art and unhinged essay posts about this whole thing

Rap Battle: Stan Pines vs Scrooge McDuck
Don’t judge me, I had fun writing this.
In this battle, two money loving great uncles will verbally duke it out to establish grunkle dominance, it is the world famous trillionaire adventuring Scotsman, Scrooge McDuck, versus the old conning tourist trap runner, Stan Pines!
Scrooge McDuck:
Life is like a hurricane, when you fight me Multi-trillion business man, you can, bite me
World famous adventurer Through all opponents I'll be breezin' I could have figured out how to beat Bill Cipher in only one season
I've faced witches and monsters and obstacles of every kind So I'll have no issue with this crooked scammer's wrinkly behind
Been around the world inspired Indiana and Cobb Star of one of the greatest retro-games courtesy of Capcom
I'm a hard as nails, thrill seeking treasure hunting man of action I don't need a shabby run-down twelfth rate roadside attraction
I made my fortune square being tougher and smarter You got your money by swindling and making back-handed barters
From the klondike to the combat mic my battles have changed But my opponents are always greedy slimy, stupid and deranged
Stan Pines:
You got guts duck a hard working core But now you're boarding the Stan-O-War
You want to dive into this like your coin bin With all your tact and grace? Are you aware of everything I've punched in the face?
Dinosaurs, Zombies, Eagles and a trans-dimensional God of chaos And now, a dumb rich duck with no morals or pathos
So you're gonna need more than your bark, bark, Barks You need to spit fire but you're just coughing sparks
Now we've both had familial issues and the reunion’s always sweet But my brother was trapped in another dimension You couldn't just see your nephew down the street?
The Scott can call me the Kingdom of England because I'm endlessly attacking you The only thing that could make your rhymes worse Is if you had the bag-pipes backing you
I'm on my toes can't stay stagnant like you Face it, You're not Young anymore Everyone is saying, Scrooge Who?
I got through the government when gravity was in flux I'll admit, I'm no real prize but you look like a million bucks.
Scrooge:
Is that the best you can do, You dirty swindling conning old crone? You're as lucky as my nephew Donald and as Lazy as Gladstone
For ten cents I started my own business empire With a single cent I could set your world on fire
This frugal plaid clad warrior never steps away from a fight I Rosa to the challenge of this verbal Scarpa to bring your cons to light
You're getting eaten alive I'm the sea monster and you're the ice cream You couldn't get the drop on me if you were Darkwing on a high beam
You're crashing like Launchpad in your hot air balloon It's time for the greatest great uncle to claim victory A-Woo-oo!
Stan:
Look, I came back from amnesia you need to punch harder than that I can't expect to lose against a duck in that inferior top hat
Why don't you get Gyro to build a rapping machine for you? Your rhymes were so bad I think your family would implore you
You've gone to the moon and back And the bottom of the deepest sea I've built interdimensional rifts Caused a tear in my reality
Soos couldn't fix your rhymes You've got too many issues Flaunting all that wealth over the family you misuse
And that is where we differ in how we see our family You'd cut down your family tree If it was profitable for your logging company
You think you can be saved by all that wealth that you've boasted? It must be a holiday because a duck just got roasted

[ID: Chibi art of Maya Fey and Phoenix Wright. Maya sits in front of a meal (seemingly roasted japanese eels, unagi kabayaki). She grins with her hands in front of her, ready to eat. Behind her Phoenix is by a cash register, holding his wallet and angrily pointing at Maya with a tear in his eye. He shouts 異議あり!("Objection!") and Maya shouts back, 異議なし!("No objections!") In the upper left corner there are the JR and Capcom logos. /end ID]
Capcom collaborated with the Central Japan Railway to make some stickers and this is the Ace Attorney one.

Watched Part 5 & Part 6 of Nick Apostolides playing RE4R. Wrote down more interesting stuff that caught my attention.
Parts 1 & 2 Parts 3 & 4
Part 5:
- Marcio clarifies the comment he made in the cast stream that he filmed on his knees was just a joke. He was never on his knees but Marcio had to look above the VA’s heads while Nick & Gen had to look down at Marcio’s knees to make sure the characters were looking at the correct eye line. The same technique was used in RE8 when VAs who filmed with Maggie (Lady Di) had to look above her head.
- Marcio keeps playfully roasting Nick for this stream like he did in Part 3.
- VAs don’t have to look exactly the same as the characters. Many people are spliced into one character such as the VA, face model, body model, body movement mocap staff, stunt mocap staff, etc.
- They did not have to improv too many lines since the script was already pretty good but Steve Kniebhily (cinematics director) was open to suggestions.
- All cutscenes were mocapped but if “some scenes was short”, then it’s just FADR (facial capture), voiceover lines are mostly for gameplay moments.
- Everyone had a blast filming RE4R as they had camaraderie and good rapport with each other, compared to other shows/games where people just come in to act and then leave.
- The VAs are asked about their fav Leon death scenes. Nick’s fav death scene to film was when Leon is brought to his knees and having his head lobbed off with an axe in 3 chops. Gen liked seeing Leon’s head get eaten while Marcio liked seeing Leon have a chainsaw put through his chest.
- Marcio had lots of fun filming the Salazar battle lines as there were angry lines, monster lines, non-monster lines (before transformation), creepy lines, etc.
- Nick accidentally eats the golden egg for the Salazar boss fight during his first try. It was hilarious. And then Leon dies so Nick gets a second try…
- Marcio was protesting against the golden egg but the stream voted for the Salazar omelette so Nick eggs Salazar on his second attempt. Gen wasn’t keen on the golden egg either since “it would make the stream shorter”.
- Marcio is disappointed by Nick’s usage of the egg but says “oh well that’s the only way you could beat me”.
- Stream votes for a rematch without the golden egg since Nick didn’t want to go to the island without having Mike Kovac (Krauser) on stream.
- Nick fights Salazar on the third try without the golden egg, he mostly uses the magnum on him.
- Marcio & Gen start cuddling their cats after the Salazar boss fight.
- Gen would be happy to play Ashley again if Capcom wants to make more stories with her.
- Gen filmed the audition for Ashley in her bedroom due to the pandemic and was happy to get the callback.
- Gen finds FADR hard to do since the VA is just alone with a head cam to capture the facial expressions and they have to look in the correct direction. There is no one else to act with.
- Gen was very bad at filming Ashley running down the stairs when Leon was trapped in the cage. She had difficulty running and looking up as the stairs she was filming on was a bit flimsy and there were no banisters for her to hold.
- Gen has spoken to the body model for Ashley. She has sent a message to Ashley’s face model but has not gotten a response yet.
- Marcio had to do a funny walk when he played the Verdugo as he had to pretend to be very heavy.
- Nick & Marcio both lost their voices during recording. Gen did not lose her voice as she did a lot of screaming for her previous acting roles so she knows how to preserve her voice.
Part 6:
- Mike has been a fan of the game since he was young and was honoured to work with Nick and many other wonderful people.
- For the Ada & Leon boat scene, Nick jokingly said Leon has so much hairspray that his hair isn’t being blown by the winds.
- Mike explains Krauser’s voice is based off James Hetfield (from the band Metallica) before he got vocal training and wrestler Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Both destroyed their voices so Krauser is also a bit raspy sounding from yelling.
- Mike likens Krauser & Leon’s relationship to Sabretooth & Wolverine.
- Nick feels all the scenes that were filmed were organic and “made sense” for the characters.
- The scene where Ashley is carried on Krauser’s shoulder, Gen was not on Mike’s shoulder due to covid restrictions (at that point in time), she was elevated on a wooden platform and had to act like she was carried away. Mike was very impressed with her performance.
- They talk about Leon’s middle name, Nick mentions how he doesn’t have one as one person in each generation of his family do not have one. Gen’s middle names are Sterling Ghost, not kidding. Mike’s middle names are Aiden Christopher and his first name was going to be Aiden until his grandfather said he would like a grandson named Mike.
- Gen talks about the audition process, she sent in a tape that was filmed in her bedroom. She was not informed what company the game was from but was told it’s a AAA game with a survival horror theme. The lines were completely different from the final product. She and her partner guessed either RE, Silent Hill or Deadspace. She got a call back for an in-person meeting on Zoom and saw Steve and other Japanese names on the screen so she narrowed it down to RE or Silent Hill. After she booked the part, she got a package that had the character design for her character and knew it was RE4. Gen was thrilled as she just switched agencies right before the pandemic and before the switch, she was asking various agencies on how they felt about her auditioning for video games. Some said “we could try” while the one she eventually signed on said “yes, we do have some actors doing video games”. This was her first video game gig after switching agencies.
- Gen did mocap (no voiceover) for a small game that had Michael Adamthwaite (Merchant) in it and both of them got along well. She did not know he was going to be in RE4R too so it was a pleasant surprise for her to meet Michael again.
- Mike got the audition notice when he was on vacation with his wife’s family. He had no printer for the 8 pages of dialogue and had a dilemma on whether he should write all 8 pages by hand… Eventually he wrote down the script and memorised everything. He got back home on the final day and sent in his tape, thinking he would not book the part. He was called back for an in-person audition and did a knife fight against no one in an empty room. He had five separate audition meetings and was only told what game it was on the fourth meeting so he changed his audition strategy to suit the game. He was elated when he got the part.
- It seems the VAs each had a 20 minute talk with Steve where they talked about anything. Gen talked about some of her fav games that coincidentally were games he directed and she did not know Steve directed them at all.
- Mike did weapons training upon getting the part even though no one asked him to. He wasn’t sure how much guns Krauser would use in the game. He then cites a video called “Surviving Edged Weapons” where there was a scene of a guy with a knife and another guy with a gun. The fella with the gun can only draw their weapon upon seeing the guy draw his knife. Gunner has to try to see how close the kniver can be before he is unable to fire the gun accurately and then die from the knife stab. The answer is every time it’s 21 feet or less, the knife wins over the gun so Krauser’s statement of knives being faster in close combat has some truth to it.
- Nick learned the one-handed gun chamber check on an air soft gun for a short film he did and asked if he could do that for Leon in RE4R. He was given the go ahead and that’s how that scene came about. It is difficult to do on a real life gun and easy to do with rubber prop weapons.
- Out of all the lines they recorded different versions for, Ashley’s chandelier line had the most number of variations. There were some versions when Ashley did sound pissed, or sounded like a mom, or sounded very impressed. They wanted Ashley to be both kind of scolding & impressed at the same time.
- Mike has a wall of weapons due to his work. If he can’t use a bladed weapon, his weapon of choice would be a sap.
- Nick & Gen had a lot of fun filming the scene where Saddler controls Ashley. Nick found it difficult to twitch while standing still on the spot.
- Mike was very surprised by the very thirsty DMs for ASMR stuff. Nick has had people requesting him for feet pics. Gen just avoids her DMs entirely.
- PSA: Please respect the VAs and don’t DM them with requests to fulfil your kinky fantasies. They won’t yuck someone’s yum but they are just not into that. They are human too and that’s not the reason they have social media. Gen said if she was into that, she would have Onlyfans but she doesn’t. So if you want your fantasies fulfilled, go to Onlyfans and not IG DMs.
- Steve really liked the idea of Leon & Krauser jumping into scenes. Mike said his legs & knees had quite a workout while filming.
- Mike had a lot of fun recording lines of Krauser intimidating Leon.
- Mike jokes about Krauser oiling himself “to make him fight better” and the washboard abs that you can do laundry on.
- Nick & Mike were riffing off each other for the final Krauser battle especially when Krauser says “Training’s not done. Last lesson starts now”. and Leon responds with “Nah. Time for the teacher to be taught.”
- Other outtakes they did for the above lines were “I didn’t sign up for this class.”, I’ll see you in detention.”, “You’re just mad because the teacher didn’t give you a gold star., “Time to clap the chalk erasers.”, “You’re suspended, rookie.”
- Mike was happy to have two mutated arms instead of one in this game. Krauser’s right claw arm was initially a hammer arm.
- For Krauser’s death scene, Mike remarks Krauser can’t pick up the weapon he loves so much ‘cos he essentially ruined himself.
- At one point in the initial script for Krauser’s death scene, Krauser was supposed to put his hand on top of Leon’s to force the knife down but they realised the monster arms won’t really allow Krauser to do that.

Long ago, on the first PlayStation, when the Resident Evil trilogy happened. Also, before the PlayStation 2 happened, when Code Veronica also happened, Capcom released Resident Evil Survivor.
A game that should've never happened. Why? I’ll explain...

Can you draw Sky being mischievous and pulling some pranks or roasting someone, his dialogue options are so funny and I think we don't appreciate his sass enough :)
