Snow leopards actually have the largest tails of all felines, to help on balance on mountains and highlands. The tails can be as large as their own bodies.

Since Ragdoll cats are the second largest breed of cat, right after Maine Coon cats (third largest if you also count Savannah cats), just how large are your Ragdoll cats? Do you have any photos comparing any of them to a regular sized cat?

Ragdolls typically show fairly significant size disparity between males and females, and there’s pretty broad variety in size between lines. Mine don’t come from one of the really large lines, and I’ve only had females, so they’ve not been that large. Clementia, after like two years of working on her weight, is at a good weight right now at just over 7 lbs. The muttcat I had, Tigris, was bigger, but he was also bigger than his own mom at like 6 months old, so he was on the large side.

My dream cat is actually a flame point male ragdoll from one of the breeders with larger lines, so I’m hoping I’ll one day sit here with a (healthy) like 18-20 lbs cat. But that’s towards the top end for ragdolls so I may have to settle for slightly less; the absolute minimum I’d be aiming for is around 12 lbs.

I’ve got an old photo with both the ragdolls and the muttcat on my Tumblr here; Belladonna (foreground) passed away from feline hepatic lipidosis at age 5, and Tigris (orange idiot) passed away a couple summers ago at age 15. As you can see the muttcat is larger than the girls, particularly Clementia, who is/was smaller than her sister.

So basically, my ragdolls have been on the “average cat” end of the breed size scale.
