What does Clearsight look like in your style, I remember that you said that her eyes would be almost always in the prophecy state and I was wondering how that'd look like.
I drew her a while back but my style has changed a lot since then - I'm thinking nowadays of giving her a shattered glass/sapphire theme, representing the facets of the future, the broken future, and the threads that connect them all. A little bit more blue leaning/sapphire, since sapphires were historically a stone of prophecy.
This is technically her future sight look, her eyes would be normally black and purple when not future seeing, but since she does it almost all the time, this gemstone-like look in her eyes is usually what you'll see. Also gave her more glass/gemstone look in her scale patterns, maybe even a calico look, since I don't use large spots like that often in my designs. Also gave her darker under-eye scales to represent insomnia. Will probably tweak this in the future, especially the face shape (wanna make it more unique, this shape is a tad basic) but it's a good starting point.

Do you happen to know what happened to Clearsight? She went missing a bit ago... no one knows where she went.
.
[id: FIRST PANEL: Whiteout sitting in the left corner, looking up with her wings spread out. Her eyes are not visible and she looks nervous. Her only color is purple, other than the dramatic red lighting and soft shading on her. The background is a large red sun in the top right corner, with the colors fading into dark purple sky. The darker parts of the sky are covered in stars. On top of the sun, there is a dragon silhouette, all black, belonging to Clearsight. In the left top corner, there is a narrator box, black with white border, with only 3 dots in it.
SECOND PANEL: The sun is now closer to the middle, sticking to the top of the screen. No dragon is visible on the background, and the only thing beside it are three speech bubbles, black with white outlines. They read: "Clearsight might have thought nobody saw her flying away, but I did." "I don't know where she went, but anything would be better than this rotting land." "I just hope no matter where, she didn't get lost along the way." / end id]

for the send wof chars thing...
clearsight fathom and like... cricket? if possible :)

HER
I love Clearsight, and I think anybody who doesn't at least like her a little is weird
Speaking of which, the whole "Clearsight is a colonizer" thing is bullshit. I'm 100% certain that was not what Tui was going for. I admit that a lot of the Pantala stuff needs a rewrite (stuff like how the silk and hivewings split, how they speak the same language as Pyrrhia, and the racism) but Clearsight was not being actively malicious with the Pantala residents, and that wasn't supposed to be the take away. I actually find the idea of her becoming a religious figure after her death really fascinating, and I wished that was played around with some more
Anyway, everyone and their grandmother has already said this, but Darkstalker is a really good book and Clearsight is a big reason of why that's the case. She's just cool :)

I also really love Fathom! He might be my favorite out of the Darkstalker protags actually
It's hard to find something about him to talk about that hasn't been said already, so I'll save my gushing about him for another day

â¨Cricketâ¨
She was my favorite Pantala character when the first couple books of arc 3 were out besides Blue, and I still really like her to this day!
I do admit that, again, the whole racism, slavery, and corrupt government stuff could've been dealt with a lot better. I feel like Cricket had some more potential to be a very interesting character considering she started off thinking that nothing was wrong with the way things were, until she learned about how Wasp is lying to and manipulating everyone. I love stories where the protagonist has to confront and overcome the propaganda they were taught. (aka: I'm projecting) If I for some reason rewrite arc 3 someday, I'd definitely try to focus some more on that aspect of her character
(I haven't read most of arc 3 in a while, so I don't feel I can make a strong argument about why the themes first presented in it weren't handled well, but I'll get to that someday)
Anyway, yeah! I like Cricket, I think she's fun! I'll probably have more to say about her later when I get to arc 3
ALSO, I am a staunch Blicket defender and I love them (especially my enby lesbian Blue x transfem lesbian Cricket đĽ°)
I give up with the song thing rn cause I can't think of anything for these guys at the moment

I think I should specify- when I submitted Whiteout, Clearsight, and Benjamin- those were three different characters
Mhm! I just kept them in the same line because theyâre in the same form, and that way I donât go hunting for their propaganda later and canât find it >-<
If they make it in, however, they will be kept separate, of course!

Here's some silly little metaphors that I think the dragon tribes would use
SkyWings
âDonât count your clutch before they hatch.â (Don't plan too much too soon)
âGold is better than silver, but silver is better than nothing.â (If you can't do it perfectly, still try your best. Most dragons forget the second part.)
ââSorryâ can't suck the fire back in.â (The damage is done and now you're dead to me.)
âYou been eating too much burnt meat or something?â (Are you nuts?)
âStop all this smoke and use your fire.â (Stop rambling and get to the point already; or stop complaining and do something)
âDoesn't know his tail from his wings.â (Stupid or clumsy)
âYou fly like a depressed pigeon.â (Slow flier)
âThere's no fire in a rainstorm.â (Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get to work.)
âNighttime is for the NightWings.â (What are you doing up? Go to sleep.)
SandWings
âSheâs all rattle, and no strike.â (Like all bark no bite)
âA diamond in a pile of quartz.â (Like a needle in a haystack)
âYouâre watering the cactus and ignoring the sapling.â (Youâre focusing on the wrong thing; barking up the wrong tree)
âEveryone thinks the camel looks silly until the dry season comes.â (Don't listen to them, they don't know how unique and strong you are)
MudWings
âCrocodile tears.â (Fake crying in order to gain sympathy)
âYou can only catch a trout if your mouth is open.â (Be open to new experiences)
âIf the tree gives away too much, it ends up as a stump.â (Don't let people take advantage of your generosity)
SeaWings
âHappy as a clam in high water.â (Very happy)
âThe flying fish feels like a fool when it sees an osprey.â (Don't compare yourself to others, run your own race.)
âPlenty of fish in the sea.â (Plenty more opportunities to come.)
âYouâve got ink in your eyes.â (You're blind to something important)
âLobsters only die when they don't leave their shell.â (Keep yourself busy with new experiences and you'll life a long life)
NightWings
âSleep is for the dead.â (Why waste your time sleeping when you could be productive)
âSeaWings know their fish and SandWings know their cactuses, but we NightWings know everything else.â(NightWing supremacy propaganda)
âBeing nice to a deer never got one in my mouth.â (Other dragons don't matter, only your goals.)
âA prophecy always comes true.â (I told you so but more cryptic)
"You're counting the stars." (You're doing something tedious towards an unachievable goal)
RainWings
âGrayâs her favorite color.â (She's a huge bummer)
âA lemon is yellow on the outside, doesn't mean they're not sour.â (Referring to someone who is two faced or fake)
âI love honey, but Iâd rather not get stung by the bees.â (I could do this, but it requires effort so I don't wanna)
âNobody likes a rotten banana.â (Nobody likes a bummer/downer)
âDon't tie your tail in a knotâ (don't get all upset)
âI have all my berries in a basketâ (I have everything sorted out)
âYou couldn't sneak up on a pineappleâ (insult to one's camouflage skills, popular among children)
IceWings
âThe seal who asks why the orca is chasing him is the first to get eaten.â (A favorite of parents telling their kids to shut up)
âNot the sharpest icicle on the roofâ (kinda stupid or slow)
âClear as polished iceâ (i understand or see it very well)
âYou're looking a little pink in the faceâ (you look sickly. IceWings can turn pink from eating too much krill; a symptom of malnutrition. This line can be applied to any illness.)
âBlue blood kills, red blood spills.â (Patriotic propaganda implying that IceWings win every fight
âThe SkyWings toss their blue eyed hatchlings because they're worried they'll be as strong as an IceWing.â (More propaganda)
HiveWings
âPretty is for the SilkWings.â (Vanity is stupid and impractical)
âIf it buzzes like a bug and bites like a bug, it's a bug.â (Don't ignore the obvious)
âClearsight works in mysterious ways.â (I don't know the answer to your question, now go away)
SilkWings
âIt's not always good to know how the honey gets made.â (Don't stick your snout where it doesn't belong)
âShe's got a couple of threads loose.â (Calling someone a little crazy, threads refers to weaving)
âThe bee minds its flowers and the spider minds her silk, it's when they mix that bad things happen.â (Mind ya business)
LeafWings
âFlytraps only trap because the soil doesn't feed them.â (Dragons don't get angry out of nowhere)
âLooking like a leaf only hides you in the forest.â (Time and place)
âIf a branch doesn't bend, it breaks.â (Be flexible)
âEven the corpse flower attracts the flies.â (Even someone who seems ugly to one dragon they can seem irresistible to another)

What's your opinion of what everyone did after the sealing of Darkstalker in the legends book? It just seemed way too quick with how they just moved on from the horrors, as Fathom and Indigo had kids and Clearsight flew off to a new continent to have kids with and create a whole new tribe. On another note, considering how Fathom was kind of banished (from what I remember) and had kids split off from the Royal Family, do you think there may be a descendant of Fathom somewhere hiding with Animus powers? Or do you think they just ended up being adopted back into the royal family after being discovered?
I personally consider Legends: Darkstalker the best book in the series, in part because I believe Sutherland's writing shines when she is not binding herself to the 5 books arc structure.
That said, the ending does have a bit of that one particular prequel problem. You know, the one where the characters are confirmed to be at a certain location in the future, so they absolutely HAVE to end the prequel story getting to that location IMMEDIATELY.
That's what I was thinking with regards to Clearsight's ending. Now, everyone deals with trauma differently, so I can only comment on her actions from my own limited point of view. I don't think I could have done what she did, at least not so suddenly. She had relationships beyond Darkstalker, with Listener and her parents, whom she presumably was still on good terms with. Like, especially her parents I think never actually learned what happened to her. They might have continued living thinking their only daughter died in the evacuation.
When I think of that part of the book, I personally like to envision an epilogue where Clearsight returns to her parents and lives with the Nightwings for a while (a couple years maybe). Her parents are supportive and Listener is grateful and admires her friend for saving her family. So much so that she reverses her stance on futuresight and authors a scroll about it, crediting Clearsight as a master prophet (this is the scroll that Moonwatcher later reads).
But the other Nightwings still fear Darkstalker, and they remember his girlfriend who stood on stage with him and looked at him adoringly as Darkstalker massacred his own father (they don't know she was tricking Darkstalker). So there is public tension building at Clearsight living with them, and it begins to negatively impact the people who support her. In the end, Clearsight decides to leave the tribe, both to protect her loved ones from getting caught up in her fallout and to separate herself from all that trauma and find her fortune on the new continent.
Notably, she actually tells her friends and parents about that plan this time, and they don't spend the rest of their lives wondering what happened.
As for Fathom and any potential descendants, there is a 'realistic but boring' answer, and one that is a bit more interesting narratively.
The boring answer is that, yes, there are descendants of Fathom around. Lots of them. It is inevitable. If you take an individual and step back one generation, you find they will have 2 parents. Above that they have 4 grandparents. Then 8 great-grandparents, 16 great-great-grandparents. At 10 generations back we are looking at 1024 theoretical ancestors. Now as these numbers get bigger, some of these lines will cross-breed with each other again, so the math isn't entirely clean, but just trust me that these numbers balloon really fast the more generations you go back.
Fathom was alive 2000 years ago. If we lean conservatively and say the average dragon has eggs at age 20, that means 100 generations have come and gone from then to today. The number of ancestors over this many generations is so high, you might pick any Seawing currently alive in present day and there will be a very decent chance of them having Fathom somewhere in their bloodline.
You go back far enough and everyone starts to be related to everyone else. Ancestry is funny like that.
For the more narratively interesting answer: I do believe Fathom re-integrated into the royal family again. One thing that needs to be kept in mind is that Pearl, like her brother, also had her entire life uprooted by the Royal Seawing Massacre. She was all at once dealing with the shock of losing her parents and the stress of having to now run the entire kingdom without being prepared for it at all. There was no time to process any grief, or the lingering fear. When she sent her brother away and forbade him to have children, that wasn't an act of malice, it was the only solution she could think of to keep everyone safe from the future threat of magic without also having to execute the last part of her family.
Neither of them ever had any ill will against the other. Pearl was dealt the shittiest of hands and she tried to make the best play she could at the time, while desperately trying to keep herself together. That is what I think.
As Pearl and Fathom got older and the situation in the Sea Kingdom stabilized, Pearl might have finally been able to reflect upon what happened and to process some of her neglected emotional turmoil. I believe Fathom eventually reached out again and they both found a way to reconcile, mending their fractured relationship. I don't know if Fathom moved back into the palace; perhaps he chose to stay away to keep the rest of the populace at ease. But I think his children or grand-children would eventually re-integrate into the royal family.
This turned out a bit wordy and the question was sitting in my inbox for a good while. But I hope this provides an interesting answer.

I wonder if Darkstalker ever wanted to be a father. I don't mean 'did he want to have kids' because we know the answer is yes. But I wonder if he ever looked at how awful his father was and thought about how he could do better. How he would treat his kids better. It seems like most of Darkstalker's character is a lack of consideration for others. So in the other futures where Clearsight succeeded in reeling him and keeping him on the good paths, I wonder how his experiences with his father would have shaped his parenting abilities. And I wonder in how many futures Clearsight had to continue 'fixing' him and compensate for his lack of understanding. Even if he didn't try to kill everyone, he was still heavily affected by his father's abuse and would pass that on to his kids without some guidance and therapy.

âFinally we have them all.â You fools⌠we forgot Darkstalker Legends.
-Darkstalker immediately starts off as this horrible dragon who kicks dogs and sets fire to Whiteout for no reason (because we need at least one major character death in these retellings.)
-Basically this makes him an unnaturally evil character that completely ruins any and all nuance of the original story.
-Donât worry, Clearsight still falls head over heels for him. In fact, every single word and every single thought she has is about how hot Darkstalker is, even though he tries to kill her the moment they meet.
-When Fathom and Indigo arrive to the night kingdom, thereâs this stupid love triangle between Darkstalker, Clearsight, and Fathom. Indigo is a loose end and, since she hates Darkstalker, becomes a villain who dies in the very next chapter where sheâs fed to Albatross (he faces zero repercussions for the massacre and is the annoying comic relief for the book.)
-Obviously Arctic is made 100x worse, becoming an alcoholic whose only purpose is to be cruel towards Darkstalker. His backstory is changed where he was actually kidnapped from the Ice Kingdom, yet heâs seen as the worst dragon ever for wanting to leave.
-Oh yea, Foeslayer is also there, but sheâs killed by Arctic when Darkstalker and Whiteout are born. We donât even get her name, we only remember her as âDarkstalkerâs mom.â Her death only serves as pity points towards Darkstalker.
-However, halfway in the book suddenly the entire narrative is flipped. Darkstalker is suddenly this uwu soft boy who can do no harm and is just misunderstood.
-Also Darkstalker x Clearsight does happen, but suddenly Clearsight is made the abuser for no reason. Like, she suddenly starts going off on how much she hates him and starts beating him up (despite the invincible scales.) This abuse is only seen as bad when Clearsight does it, not the countless times when Darkstalker beat her up.
-Fathom is heartbroken by Darkstalker choosing Clearsight over him. He says âNice guys always finish last :((â and Hyper Beams Darkstalker into the pavement.
-Oh yea the Arctic death scene. That doesnât happen. Arctic disappears from the story until he just goes up to Fathom at the end and is suddenly the good guy. He tells Fathom that âviolence against Darkstalker is not the answerâ and freezes him so Fathom can make up (and make out) with Darkstalker in the far future.
-With Clearsight in Pantala, she enslaves the Beetlewings and Leafwings immediately as mentioned in the terrible arc 3. Like sheâs suddenly the devil and even the breath of evil is scared of her. Actually you know what? Clearsight created the breath of evil. How? Who cares. Screw it, she starts dating Cottonmouth.
-Lastly, in the future when Peril is supposed to live, Fathomâs frozen corpse drops onto her and splatters her blood everywhere, which starts to melt his ice. Seeing this, Clay and Glory immediately start making out in the most graphic way possible and the whole story goes full circle.
That's still not all, though. We need the Winglets and Dragonslayer.

Warning: Very NoNo Regime
Chrysalis Revolution (Pantala AU)
For nearly a hundred years, the SilkWings have been servants of the HiveWings, from the Tree Wars and the appeasement of queen Wasp, their history and culture have been erased from memory by the HiveWings, all they should know since hatching was, there was only the Hives, and there always has been and there will always be, and above all these, that they were inferiors, bond to serve to the end of times.
Such notion was well accepted by their populations, after all, isn't this what Clearsight wanted? One queendom, One tribe... One...
The difference between a slave and a serf is merely how willing they believe in their role, and for young Luna, such reality couldn't be possible. From her parents, to her friends, to her superiors, all it was as it should be, but she refused, she had to push it forward, despite the warnings of her friend and half-brother Blue.
Escaping her hive, meeting Cricket, Swordtail, travelling to Pyrrhia and making her speech to the Queens' Summit, Luna had realized the world was far bigger than she was led to believe, and so at that moment, she had refused to bow down to it.
In 5012 AS, Luna had secretly returned to Pantala, a new young and reinvigorated idealist, she joined the Chrysalis group, an underground resistance organized through the Hives, she made her case:
" Fellow silkwings... The seeds will grow again! I travelled to a far off land, met dragons I never believed existed, one of them in particular, a golden-yellow sandwing, she told me how she ended a war when she had nothing but her belief in her most just cause. Be certain of it, Wasp can not be reasoned, but what are we if we do not believe? We must fight, we must rise up, countless dragons depend on us, and when the seeds grow, the trees shall softly provide shadows upon us in peace, once again! "
The Chrysalis rised up. The burning of the Bloodworm Hive was the most unexpected event in Pantalan history, including the death of Lady Bloodworm, a particularly cruel HiveWing. Through all the hives, with the exception of the Wasp Hive, chantings, protests and fights have begun in the streets, in the houses, the call was sent, and the SilkWings answered it.
The Chrysalis Revolution had begun. With equipment sent from Pyrrhia and the immediate recognition of Luna's authority over the recently burnt Bloodworm Hive, the war for freedom and peace was just the beginning.
Queen Wasp did not reacted well to the events interfering her plans, most of her army was focused in the Poison Jungle, hunting down what she thought was the last remaining LeafWings, concluding a campaign she had ever failed for decades. Despite the immediate order to return to the homeland, the HiveWing forces took weeks to mobilize again, but the cruel punishment for collaborators came swiftly.
Wasp was willing to end the SilkWing tribe if such act granted stability to her rule, through the hives, mass executions of SilkWing families became common story.
It was now the duty of every SilkWing to resist. After two months of battle and the arrival of the main HiveWing forces, the revolutionary euphoria was replaced by a defeatist sentiment as battle after battle, the SilkWings lost.
Arrived 5013 AS, the Chrysalis were on the bring of collapse, gathering around their last fortress at Bloodworm Hive, despite the defeatism crippling their motivation, they knew surrender was not an option, they would fight to the very last dragon, their cause was right.
It was then when unexpected news had arrived from Jewel Hive, Lady Jewel had called for the immediate removal of Wasp from power, for 'her actions have led to the breakdown of order and peace among the Hive and its citizens'. Jewel was no saint, but to the revolutionaries, she became a goddess, delaying all mass execution orders coming for Wasp for months and openly providing to the SilkWing revolutionaries, Jewel wanted to be on the 'right side of history'.
The entrance of the Jewel Hive in the war lifted the revolutionary morale, despite being a cultural center of Pantala, the Jewel Hive had a formidable defense, fruit of Wasp's paranoia of her own empire's cultural destruction. The Jewel HiveWings clashed against the main force of Wasp and it desintegrated before everyone's eyes, the cracks of her leadership had revealed among incompetent commanders who could only hunt rebels and cattle, not fight professional forces.
As the war goes to its second year, revolutionary movement had begun anew intensely through the Cicada and Yellowjacket Hives, with Lady Scarab, mother of Jewel, openly supporting the SilkWings and supporting Jewel's call for the removal of Wasp.
Among all of it, Luna's saddened eyes watched so much death she sparked and deeply hurted her heart, but it would come upon them, sooner or later, Wasp must die so the SilkWings may live, there was no other option, no reasoning.
The Chrysalis Revolution had reached its peak, with half of Wasp's empire crumbling before her eyes, even the HiveWings are revolting against her, her darkest hour has arrived, as so she predicted so long ago, when she destroyed the continent to save it.
