Shit that genuinely sucks and we need to stop calling “you sound like an old man” type problems. They are modern and actual issues:

AI phone operators. If they program that shit for 3 things and none of those things are what you need you just aren’t getting help.

Really hard to navigate “delete account” options with unclear outcomes. Even more so; “pause accounts” which look like “cancel account” and would confuse anyone whose tired or stressed and in a hurry. So suddenly payments come out in like a month bcs the account is unpaused??

ramblings under the cut!!

-alastor was a famous radio presenter in the 1930's. he was also a serial killer and a cannibal, who died in 1939.

-he wished to be famous in his life, but he could not safely become a tv show host or a movie star because of the racism of the time, so he chose to hide behind radio instead, never showing his face. he was quite poor in his youth and so became obsessed with eating, which led to him becoming a cannibal. he is always hungry. hungry for fame, hungry for power, hungry for flesh.

-he died of starvation. he was chasing a victim through the woods when his foot got caught in a bear trap. he was stuck there for 3 days before succumbing to his injuries. (thats why hes so alarmingly skinny)

-his reputation as a serial killer preceded him when he arrived in hell. major evils dying is always a big event, and he used this to gain power

-he now sits as a major overlord - but none of his empire is real. he doesn't have any major powers, and has lied his way to the top by implying that he has more power than he is letting on. he doesn't.

-he discovers Charlie's hotel through her tv show last-ditch pitch (same as the pilot, except ive now decided that that interview cost them the last of their hotel money, so the stakes to find an investor were higher). he decides to sponsor Charlie's hotel because he wants POWER, real substantial power to ensure his throne of lies is safe, and he figures manipulating Lucifer's weak daughter is the easiest way to get that power.

-he is immediately overbearingly friendly to her, which valtiel & the other guests find suspicious. he begins bending the hotel to his whims, making it more suited to his tastes.

-he has large amounts of money and a popular radio show, which he uses to fund and advertise the hotel

-he tends to disappear when fights start

-his best friend is nifty. they have a very strong bond. he often communicates her worries for her, and in return she spies on the guests for him. he doesn't even own her soul they're just buddies

-he's still aroace but not bc he only cares about himself. thats stupid

-he is intentionally mysterious and speaks in riddles & lotts of 1930s slang

-he is firmly still in the 1930s, to an unusual extent. he has all the dated ideas and mannerisms of the 30's, refusing to become more modern.

-his room in the hotel is entirely monochrome

-he shares Charlie's love of musicals, and often encourages her to sing. whether his like of them is genuine or an act is unclear

Hi there! You seem like an expert when it comes to defaulting things, so I was wondering if you could maybe help me?

I've been trying to default some maxis objects (just simple deco items like sculptures, paintings, rugs) with CC items and I'm somehow failing at the replacing part. I know how to clone the original object, delete all the resources I don't need etc, but everytime I try to replace the textures and the mesh, the result in game is either the original maxis object/mesh but with the new textures applied to it or the new mesh shows up in game, but the matching textures don't show up (just the mesh in white with the "letters and numbers" missing texture look).

I feel like I'm replacing the textures correctly (I use DDS utilities and the "Build DXT option to replace the textures), but maybe I'm doing something wrong when I try to replace the mesh? Could you maybe explain how to do this correctly for stupid people?

Or am I missing a step where I need to "link" or "connect" the new mesh and the new textures somehow to make them recognoze each other?

(I've tried searching for tutorials everywhere, but the only ones 2 I found don't explain the parts I'm struggling with and everything else seems to be just clothing and hair.)

Hello anon! If there is one thing I know how to do in ts2, it's default replacements 🤠 but I'm no expert (thank you for thinking so highly of my skills though ahha) and you're not stupid at all!!

I think I know what you're doing wrong, but I decided to write a full tutorial anyway, hope you don't mind. @celebkiriedhel and @episims have both already made two awesome tutorials and I'm not adding anything revolutionary here, but I thought it easier to explain everything from scratch instead of starting in the middle. Tagging @sims2tutorials in case it's reblog-worthy!

Tutorial: object default replacement

I usually extract the resources myself manually in SimPE bc Object Workshop sometimes have trouble extracting everything and sometimes it extracts completely irrelevant resources (I've only had this problem with food though), but extracting the files yourself requires some "knowledge" (more like gut feeling hahah) of how the resources are named (and also that you have locked (i.e made read-only) all of the objects.package files in every ep/sp folder). I kind of explained how to use finder in these two tutorials (ohmygOD is past me I cringe) but I also explained how to use it here as well. If you're a beginner, I would recommend using the object workshop though.

Note: NVIDIA dds utilites (mirror), SimPE and the CEP are required.

Extracting resources via object workshop:

1. Open SimPE, click on object workshop and then click on "start":

1A. If you plan on editing EA's texture, you'll want to export the 0_lifo file (this is the highest quality of the texture, not every object has one though. The toothbrush for example doesn't). To export, you click on the resource, click on "plugin view", right click on the texture and choose "export" and save it somewhere.

2. After SimPE has extracted all, you can delete everything but the resources you want to replace, in your case, the texture (_txtr) and mesh (_gmdc). Select the other resources, right click on one of them and choose "delete". Click on "file" - "save as", name your file and save it. Then the resources you deleted will be gone and your package should look something like this (depending on what resources you kept):

How to manually export resources via Finder:

1. Click on "finder", change "object search" to "namemap search", type in "plantbonsai" where it says "match" and click on "start". SimPE will load a bit and then you'll see the resources matching plantbonsai:

Click on "plugin view" (here you can click on preview to see how the mesh looks), right click on the resource and choose "extract". Save it somewhere.

Go back to "finder" and scroll all the way down. Double click on "plantbonsai-surface_txtr" and repeat the same steps to extract it, like you did with the mesh.

2. Click on "finder" once again and double click on "plantbonsai_small-surface0_lifo". Change to "plugin view" and export the texture (the same steps as I explained in step 1A.) if you're planning on editing EA's original texture.

Be careful not to accidentally import/replace any resource here! You’re poking in object-files located in the program files folder and they should never be edited, you only want to extract things out of these files, never into! This is why you want to lock the files :-)

3. When you've extracted the resources you want, click on "file - new" and then right click anywhere and choose "add". Choose the extracted resources and click "ok".

Regardless of which way you choose to extract the resources, your file should look something like this when you're done:

How to replace resources:

Now, I assume you have edited EA's texture and/or mesh to your liking, or you have already extracted the mesh + texture from a custom object.

How to replace textures:

Click on the texture resource, change to "plugin view", right click on the texture and choose "build DTX".

This window will pop up:

After choosing your texture, click on "build". Click on "commit" to save your changes.

How to replace meshes:

If you have a extracted a custom mesh, you have to double check that the group name(s) are the same as EA's object you are replacing. This you can do in Milkshape (key, unimesh) or in SimPE. I'll explain how to do it in SimPE since it's the most beginner-friendly.

You can also edit the SHPE to edit the group(s) name(s), but that's another way and if I don't stop myself I'll be here forever hahaha.

1. Click on the gmdc (aka the mesh) and copy the resource name. Then right click on the mesh (the resource) and choose "replace". Select your new/custom mesh.

This window will pop up, click "yes":

2. You'll notice the mesh name has changed, this is why we copied the original filename before doing any changes. Now you can simply paste the original filename and then click on commit.

2A. If your newly imported mesh has a different group name than EA's original you'll have to edit that/those. For example:

To fix this, click on "groups":

Edit the name and click on commit to save the changes.

3. Save the package (file - save or ctrl + s) and you're done!

I could go on forever explaining (for example, if your mesh has more groups than EA's original, how to clone and make new resources etc) but I'll stop here. I've already spent way too many hours on this tutorial hahaha, why am I so slow 😭 with that being said, do let me know if I fucked up somewhere.

I've put little notes on the collage, but essentially my idea for transmasc Barney is that he transitioned prior to Black Mesa, but during Combine rule had to rely on Combine HRT (or smth to that effect), until the vort figured out they can also make HRT. Or smth.

Bc "Gordon" isn't especially a feminine name, I decided G. would go by just "Gee" (yes, I did consider calling her "Gordon Freewoman" but thought it was silly). Note on the collage summarised that she was unaware/ in denial of being trans, and only transitioned after the defeat of the Combine, in her early 30s.

Was my G headcannon partially based on Gordon's haircut in hl2? Give her her long hair back,,,

Anyways I have not thought this through at all I was simply possessed by gay autism and if it's stupid I'll amend it, I think I've already made some changes since making this drawing yesterday. I think. Maybe I will abandon this headcannon next week, or write a several thousand word fanfic about it. You never know.

crazy how so much of my life i process through music. almost every big revelation i've had in my life is because a song made everything click for me. my autism makes it difficult to express my feelings and even have feelings bc they're either too big or not big enough and i can never verbalize them or express them in the correct, socially acceptable way. so finding someone else who feels the same and putting it together in prose is like, Super Important to me because i feel like it's the only way i can understand the world around me. it's kind of annoying and maybe cheesy? but it really does help me process my feelings, other's feelings, other people, things that have happened to me, my own beliefs, etc....the repetitive quality of music i think is what really sells me bc a book or movie i can kind of only sit with once or twice but a song i can listen to over and over and over again and will always be there when i'm feeling that specific feeling. i think this is why my special interests tend to be real life musicians bc i get so drawn into the music they make and get so--embarrassingly--parasocial with them bc they're someone who can put what i feel into words. i'm a lot better now irt parasocial/obsession with musicians but it's hard not to want to fall in love with the person that makes art that helps you. stupid ass corny post but i love music so much and i'm so happy i get to live in a time where i have access to so much of it. it's like a communication board for me sometimes, it feels like the only thing that really makes me feel like i'm at least part of humanity and not simply just an observer

Ryusei had long accepted that he's a very different person from Tomoko. She into the gothic and the spooky, while Ryusei focused on his martial arts. Of course, they had their love of space in common, and their membership of the KRC. But really, he wasn't like her much at all.

That fact usually didn't bother him much. Until now.

A new student had joined Amanogawa High School. The student- Ryusei learned the his name was Isumi- was the image of the stereotypical goth. His hair was jet black, his eyeliner was sharp, his eyelids were painted dark black and purple. He instantly clicked with the other alternative types at Amanogawa, including Tomoko.

Ryusei couldn't help it. A horrible feeling twisted in his gut as soon as he saw them together and he knew the feeling was jealousy. Tomoko had introduced them on Isumi's first day, and it took all his self control not to break Isumi's hand when he meekly shook Ryusei's.

Ryusei trudged to the KRC's locker by himself. He had asked Tomoko to join him at the club's hang out, but she declined to show Isumi around the school. Ryusei grumbled as he swung the locker door open. "Stupid guy with his stupid eyeliner and his stupid hair...."

"Stupid what?" came a voice from the corner of the space station. Ryusei glanced over at Kengo with dark eyes , who hadn't even looked up from his computer as Ryusei stomped in.

Ryusei sighed, plopping down on a bean bag chair. "Just this new, stupid emo guy. Tomoko can't get enough of him, I guess."

That did make Kengo look up, shooting a quizzical look to Ryusei. "Don't tell me... are you jealous?"

Ryusei straightened up. "What? Me? Jealous? No way, heh, not of that guy. Definitely not." He crossed his arms and avoided eye contact with Kengo, trying to will an easy-going look on his face. Kengo just stared at him.

"I see. Definitely jealous then," he said, turning back to his computer. Ryusei opened his mouth to argue but cut himself off, sinking down more into the bean bag chair.

"Can you blame me?" he mumbled to himself. "He must be her dream guy, he looks straight out all her band posters."

Kengo was silent a moment. Then, "I wouldn't underestimate Nozama like that. She likes you for a reason, after all."

Ryusei blinked. Kengo... did have a point. Tomoko chose to like Ryusei over anyone else. It eased the gut-twisting feeling inside him, just slightly.

Despite Kengo's words, Ryusei was still left sour all day. He missed Tomoko's presence during his free time, looking for her whenever he could. He tried to keep his thoughts from drifting to the infuriating idea of her being with Isumi, but he usually wasn't successful.

Ryusei gripped his bag tightly as he headed for the exit of the school. He kept his eyes on the ground, watching his feet shuffle along the path.

"Ah, Ryusei. There you are", came a familiar voice. Ryusei snapped his head up, widening when his eyes landed on Tomoko.

"Tomoko?" Ryusei asked in wonder. "What are you doing here?"

"Well, I was busy today so we couldn't spend time together," she said. "I thought we could walk home together." She smiled at him- that creepy, thin-lipped smile that Ryusei adored.

"Y-yeah. I'd really like that," he said, smiling back at her. Tomoko moved to his side, and they began their walk together. Ryusei was about to ask how her day was when someone shouted Tomoko's name from afar.

It was Isumi, walking away with another one of Tomoko's spooky friends. He waved at her, and Ryusei's gut twisted even tighter than before. He wouldn't let this new boy take any more of his quality time with Tomoko.

Ryusei's body moved before his mind could catch up to him. He put his arm around Tomoko's shoulder and pulled her tight against his side.

"R-Ryusei!" she stuttered, a red tint growing under her dark eyeliner.

"Come on, maybe we can stop by a cafe on our way," Ryusei said, ushering Tomoko along with him. Ryusei felt his own cheeks heating up, being so close to Tomoko. But he also felt vindicated. He just wanted her by his side. That's all he needed.

You huffed, It was true, the last time you threatened him for stressing too much over something about that Peter Parker guy— oh wait.

“It’s peter, isn’t it?”

“What-“ He sputtered, “No- why would you even- no— heh.”

“You're a terrible liar.” You shook your head, “Go on, spill.” You gestured at him with a lego.

“I can’t—“ He took the lego from you and dropped it back into the pile. “I promised.”

You shook your head, “None of that, Leeds. I know secrets— I mean i keep them all the time!” You stood up, “But there is a difference—“

“It’s about his job.”

Your brows furrowed and your head tilted. You were standing in front of him now. Your eyes closed and a laugh came out of you. “What? Is he a stripper?”

“No!” He immediately put his hands up and shook his head, “or at least i don’t think so..”

“I’ll put the kettle on.”

“Old man.”

“I heard that!”

You blinked at ned, “He works for stark and that was the big secret?” You poured the boiling water into the mugs.

“Well— no—“ His brows furrowed, “Yes? Its all i can say,” He sighed. “It’s complicated..”

You gave him a long look, “But he told you?”

“No..”

Your eyes narrowed.

“I walked in on him.” He whispered.

Your brows furrowed, You handed him a mug. Your hands wrapping around your own, “You walked in on him..” You repeated, Your mind fell back onto a conversation you and ned had when you first crashed landed a month ago and ned had to get you used to everything.. human.

“No!” Ned immediately throw his hands up and his mug hit the floor and it shattered. “not like that..”

You squatted down to pick up the pieces as he tore of some paper towels, The white shards in your hand, You looked up at him. “Then what way?”

He looked down at you, before he squatted down himself to clean up the tea. “It doesn’t matter.”

“But it does,” You protest, Your free hand grabbed the side of his face. “It’s eating at you and i must know to help.”

“I promised to keep it a secret.” He whispered. He leaned more into your hand.

You smiled softly at him, Your thumb dragged against across his cheek. “There is nothing i can do to convince you to let me help with the stress?”

Ned smiled back at you, His eyes looked at the shards in your hand, “It’s not stress, per say..” He mumbled. “It’s just..” He sighed, “I don’t wanna put him out.”

“Of course.” You nodded and you leaned forward to kiss his cheek. “I understand.”

Ned swallowed, His cheeks were red as he looked away. His hand coming over your hand that was holding the shards. “Thank you.” He whispered.

You smiled again before you stood up to throw the pieces away.

“Can we go back to watching the movie now?” Ned asked. “I still have alot to rebuild—“

“Of course, baby.” You turned back towards him and hooked your arm around his. You leaned towards his cheek to plant another kiss on it.

You two stopped at the sofa, He turned fully towards you, “One more?” He asked, His eyes darted down to your lips. “For luck?”

“Even though you don’t need it?” You laughed before you leaned forward and kissed him on the lips. His lips moved slowly against yours after a moment as his hand squeezed yours and the other slipped up behind your neck to pull you closer to him.

You two pulled back when your teeth clashed together, “You have built this set before.” You teased, You squeezed his hand and dragged him back to the sofa.

“But this time,” He sat down beside you and leaned to grab the item off the coffee table. “I’m using glue.”

Dumb Witches Festival Costumes

Happy Halloween! I just nearly forgot to post this, but thankfully I caught myself! Enjoy some of the stupid ideas I had for a few of the Masq!

Ego is Miraak, because someone told them that imitation is the highest for of flattery or something something, it doesn’t actually matter bc Ego defo wanted to use their (limited) craftsman skills to make a funny caricature of their older brother.

Sammy G dressed up as Dagon, largely for an excuse to run around in minimal clothing. Set with a bald cap, horned headband, faux arms, and a wooden axe to boot.

Erandur is a moth priest because he’s always thought their attire was interesting and fun. Unfortunately he didn’t consider how he might get around after finishing the costume with a blindfold, and now needs someone to take him by the hand and lead him around (also I rarely draw him with his hair down [ie. not in a braid], and I forget just how LONG I made his hair).

And, lastly, Rakell. Y’know how we have sexy nurses? I like to think a lot of Tamriel’s populous considers spriggans to be the equivilant. So of course Rakell was bet that he wouldn’t be a sexy spriggan that year, and of course he proved the better wrong (though any other year he would probably dress up as Velehk Sain [note that this is TDI-time and Rakell hasn’t met Velehk yet]).

Other life notes below:

This is the first year I haven’t dressed up for Halloween, though not necessarily out of my own volition. I’m at college and away from home, and the friend that I did Halloween last year with left campus, and I had no one else to participate with irl this year. + I’m tighter on money this year and simply couldn’t afford buying myself a costume. On top of that, I didn’t have a whole lot of ideas, either.

I decided to put what money I had saved for Halloween towards a future Ego cosplay that I’ve been working on, but man, it’s just not the same. Doing nothing for Halloween this year has had me really bummed out the past few days.

And then it snowed.

Oh my God did it snow. For reference: I love snowfall, and though snow IS possible this early in the year, it usually doesn’t stick. This snow STUCK. Not a whole lot of it, probably an inch, but enough! (And it’s still snowing so we might get more!) And it was just. So pretty. Bundled myself up and walked around in it for a bit. Just. Ugh. A very nice end to a largely negative-feeling day.
