Since book 7 part 5 (the part where we meet Meleanor/Maleanor 👀) is coming to EN this month, i would love to see your take on lilia’s proposal to meleanor! i mean they were like little kids right? it couldn’t have been that serious…i think the only reason she even brought it up again is because she could tell lilia still genuinely loved her…(even if he didn’t realize it himself?) but, oh well! a little more serious answer: they can tell something is going on with optimus and they desperately want to pretend it's not. they don't want to know how he's aware of things he shouldn't be, how he knows stuff that should have long been forgotten, how he seems to be more familiar with them than he should be. how sometimes he speaks and it's like the dead are talking through him. how sometimes he will answer to empty air and somehow they can just tell what he's responding to. who he is talking to.

they Know. and they really, really want to pretend they don't.

they already carry the guilt of failing them once. the idea of doing it once more is unbearable and they'd rather deceive themselves than face it. they'd rather their friends stay dead and gone than think of them seeing what they've become.

When they finally manage to get Leo back and make him rest up to heal, Donnie can’t help but listen to the recordings left behind.

He’s not sure what exactly he’s expecting, only that his subconscious is screaming at him that it has to be heartbreaking, that it has to be torturous.

Instead, what Donnie is subject to is a full thousand hours’ worth of Jupiter Jim and Lou Jitsu crossover fanfiction. More than one part in the series. Spanning well over a million words.

Burrows End is SO SO good and Aabria is such a master of story telling. This season, despite being genuine DnD vs other systems Aabria has used, hasn't actually seen all that much full blown combat. Like, of course they've fought things throughout, but it's been so much more information hunting and puzzling together all the lore. But this obviously means those scenes we do have such full blown COMBAT with sets so much more important, which was obvious in the reactor....but the bear....so obviously it's been focused on in reference to Tula's reveal, or as a show of how fucked up biology wise this world they live in is and how dangerous it is in the forest.

But it's also Aabria laying such incredibly subtle groundwork. It's showing us "this is possible in this world. This happens. They can get inside of you, burrow into you, and you will be their walking warren. Parasite and host intertwined."

And then we move on...we focus on the secrets of the first stoats and learning of all these human things, and the chipmunks and bear are just fun tidbits to throwback to about how scary and fucked up things are, but no longer relevant.

Last week we heard those tapes, and I thought "that voice change there...the 'they're so sneaky'...was that a first stoat, who we only heard as squeaks, instead speaking through Dr. Wenabocker as he died?"

And I forgot about the bear too.

But the SECOND it was revealed that Wenabocker left, that his body was gone and that Phoebe left too? It all clicked.

The Bear wasn't just a fun, really cool fucked up battle set for an episode, it was incredibly important foreshadowing. The foundation, the trap, the big bad all at once hidden behind a cool, fucked up bear in the second goddamn episode of the season.

AKELA COOPER, you brilliant sonuvabitch genre writer.... The fact that HELL FEST, MALIGNANT, and M3GAN are all written from a Black woman's gaze and are mostly dwelling in the "camp" space... IMO, makes the larger sociological niches she's mining (akin to Romero's Dawn of the Dead in sociopolitical prescience) that much more invisible in how apt and *well* she's doing it. But society will eventually catch-up. Her debut, HELL FEST was about a white man, a normal person day-to-day who hides a horrific alter-ego to kill for one night, which gives so many of the Christian family men online calling Rachel Zegler a "cunt"... MALIGNANT was ultimately about women's body autonomy, choice and sisterhood, beneath all the *amazingly* fun bloody campy action scenes. ...And finally, we have M3GAN, who unlike the naive Alita: Battle Angel (written from the male gaze), is snarky, in control, and perfectly aware of how to manipulate the gaze on her girl-child-like visage to her own control and advantage. Also, ...the usage of Britney Spears?! *PER-FECT* People keep sleeping on Akela Cooper and one day, they'll catch-up.

So, on my [redacted] rewatch of OFMD, I noticed that the cadence when Ed says "and tonight I'm supposed to kill... you" and when he says "what makes Ed happy is... you" is the same. The movement of his head is the same, the moment when he looks at Stede is in the same place in the phrase.

DJenks talked that one time about how he actually thinks the bathtub scene is the most intimate scene in the show, how these two people who are so closed off from others sit there and open themselves up to each other for the first time, and how beautiful that is. And I think Ed is confessing the same thing in both these moments.

Now, hear me out. They sound like opposite confessions, right? "I was trying to kill you" vs "I love you". But they're both saying "I love you". It's just in different ways.

"Love of a pet makes a man weak."

"You don't belong in doggy heaven."

I couldn't do it. I was weak. I love you and it made me weak.

By episode 9, by "what makes Ed happy is you", it's changed, but it's not the opposite. It's not 'I love you and it made me strong'.

It's 'I love you and it set me free'.

In the bathtub, Ed is confessing it like a crime. On the beach, he confesses it like a truth. It's such a beautiful development.

(spoilers for Harumasa's agent story!)

So, I think that Harumasa ultimately has a slight streak of pragmatism and utilitarianism, mainly in regards to himself. There is a calculation in his actions when it comes to how he wants others to perceive him as someone lazy (so they won't worry over him when his illness is genuinely serious). In his agent story quest, he doesn't hesitate to act in a self-sacrificial manner (despite the fact he wants to live no matter what!) if the overall result is more beneficial to other people than any negative consequence to himself.

He lets his spinal fluid get taken in place of the kids Kirishima is experimenting on because he reasons outwardly that he's used to the strain of the procedure, and it'll have more negative impacts on them and their life expectancy. He doesn't hesitate to inject what he thinks is a deadlier strain of the drug that his mentor made into himself, just so Kirishima couldn't get his hands on it and ruin more people's lives.

I think the way Harumasa uses himself and his own body can be attributed to his upbringing (he suffered similar experiments on his own person and that probably lend to a utilitarian mindset and disconnect with his own personhood), and personal mindset (his pragmatism towards his own perceived expendability, and his desire to protect other people).

At the same time, however, Harumasa never applies this philosophy to anyone else. When he interacts with Seth, he actually appreciates-- even admires-- that Seth has such a pure belief in protecting other people, and not sacrificing anyone to achieve a goal. Harumasa most likely feels similarly to Seth, but his own exception will always be himself.

something so real and awesome about the scene where harmony both panics and self-soothes by recreating her mother's final condition ... a mother who she didn't know in her last days because of a devotion to lumon that even said mother loathed. being raised into a cult that doesn't come from family but rather oppressive surroundings. maybe it was allowed because it was the best shot her children had to make something of themselves and get out of the town ... a certain "freedom" that comes with succumbing to the overtaking force ... and harmony forced to reckon with the fact that her mother was right all along and it was time that was wasted both because she missed that connection with someone she loved and her devotion to lumon also turned out to be a waste and a harm ...
