as someone who has been at the devil's sacrament for too much of my life, I like to play the game "guess the popular ship (without scrolling through tags or ao3)" when im getting to know a new media/fandom. (would recommend, it's equally satisfying to be exactly correct and completely wrong).

that is to say, I'm new to the brilliant Discworld novels, and the fandom didn't strike me as particularly ship-y. which is fine and cool and sometimes the interesting thing is the rarepairs and the platonic dynamics and the world-building!

however. I just finished Guards! Guards! and I'm 100% certain that whatever the hell Vimes and Vetinari have got going on, a significant number of y'all are deeply into it. that's the one.

I am making the tentative assumption that at least Peter might be new(er) to TTRPGs because he was asking which dice are which & later Robbie saying to him something to the effect of "welcome to roleplaying" - but it has me thinking that just in general I really love Critical Role bringing in talented people and introducing them to TTRPGs. New players are so much fun to watch, and bring so much to the table, both from their own flair, creative thinking from not being as familiar with the rules/constraints, and just a contagious sense of delight as they really get into it and try things. 10/10 keep bringing on excellent guests

okay an absolutely deranged and downright ludicrous thought but i am just,, giggling so badly to myself at the thought of mr. reca rating your sexual performance out of five stars literally every single time you engage in anything intimate with him.

and it’s not just a single, simple ‘four stars’; it’s a whole goddamn critics review as if he is analyzing and dissecting a film; what he liked, what he didn’t, where you shine, where you could improve, techniques he believes were ‘overused’, methods he thinks you could’ve incorporated to make things more exciting, interesting, or unpredictable, the pacing and rhythm, suggested approaches for ‘future performances’, etc etc etc.

he may even encourage you to do the same to him, too—consistently and constantly dedicated to ever-improving his art, he wants to hear your feedback, he wants to incorporate your criticisms, and he wants you to do the same. these physical acts of love are, after all, tiny masterpieces your bodies and souls come together to create, and no two are exactly alike; that’s something special, that’s something magical. they absolutely must be taken seriously and treated as such.

I don't know! I do know lots of people want to see a live-action adaptation of the Mantis Crew, and I've even talked about making a Jedi fan film someday 👀

At the very least, Respawn (and Cam) are protective of Cal's journey and want to finish out their trilogy before potentially handing the character off to Lucasfilm. I also recognize games are a smaller niche which prevents the larger TV/film audience from meeting Cal and Merrin.

But (to plagiarize my own Twitter post) I'd argue we love Cal Kestis and the Jedi series BECAUSE of the medium, not in spite of it. Games/animation are powerful tools for storytelling and a perfect way to explore this side of Star Wars.

Respawn is creating some of my favorite work in the industry right now: it's full of love for this thing that is "Star Wars" and I'm not sure a show or movie could tell Cal's story any better - and the risk of watering him down to fit someone else's narrative feels disheartening. The cast of the Jedi games are AMAZING and do incredible work buutttttt these characters are created by the writers and artists first, and that's often who we lose when switching mediums.

But if Lucasfilm does greenlight a live-action project, I'll think of you :)
