I am following the case with the Georgia mother who was a nurse and declared brain death, meaning she is not comatose. Her brain has ceased all function.
But she is being held hostage on life support because she was in her first trimester of pregnancy and based on the 'heart-beat' law, she must be kept on machines to maintain her skin and tissue so she's basically a meat incubator for the fetus.
And it's a whole thing for the family, because they are not against the baby being born under these conditions, it's the lack of autonomy for the women's body. The desecration of a corpse.
"Desecration of a corpse" sounds really ugly, but this is a technical term for this situation, since by all accounts the mother is viably dead. She is not comatose, she is not in a form of impenetrable sleep or stasis. Her brain is dead, and nothing is maintaining her bodies health but machines. Machines that pump her skin with nutrients, machines to assist gaseous exchange, machines to pull toxins from her blood, to facilitate the nourishment and production of blood cells.
But in cases of this in brain death, the body overall is effectively dead and is only in a state of maintaining because it is provided components to irrigate and nourish.
Which is why the entire situation is horrific and barbaric, because the 'pro-lifers' are so fixated with growing a baby in a meat incubator, they are not thinking about the complications of the whole process. They are too naïve and moronic to grasp that the process of pregnancy and fetus growth is a high demand on a functioning body. But this mother's body is not fully functioning, hormones for the pregnancy are not fully produced, she is not able to filtrate toxins. And in another case I reviewed (involving a young toddler in brain death) the body began to necrotize within a year, because the cells were dying. Nutrients and toxins were pumped in, dialysis was performed, but other miniscule components of the body's living situation were no performed.
So the whole issue of this mess isn't negating the rights of an unborn child, but review of the rights to the quality of life, and the process of death. Pro-lifers are frothing to 'save' this baby, and advocate for the voiceless. It's horrifying. Because even if there is a heartbeat, the pro-lifers don't care if the baby is suffocating or becoming septic from lack of nutrients, pregnancy complications; they don't care if the baby is decaying while they are still alive, or the brain is full of toxins and suffering patches of brain death. They just DEMAND this baby be cultivate and grown in this legally dead women, so they can prop this infant up - living or not - as the poster advocate of "THIS WORKS LOOK AT WHAT WE DID WE SAVED THIS BABY"
I do believe that a very early (earlier than would be recommended in such situations) premature caesarean section would be performed, in a last gamble to 'save' this baby if the life was 'endangered'. But it is impossible to really define when or where the baby's life is in danger. And we have to say 'define' not 'determine', because pro-lifers are always reworking the vocabulary and statures for what is allowed when it comes to body autonomy.
I get that people would have a strong misunderstanding with strong terminology of this mother as being "a corpse", but that is what she is. Unless some medical intervention is performed that revives the pieces of her brain that have perished and decayed (she had a STROKE), she cannot revive. She is not comatose. You're not going to take a person who had a shotgun blow off 99% of the brain and rebuild that. The tissue is dead, it is not fully decaying because of the machines performing the functions her dead organs are no longer capable of performing.
Which is integral to the fear and uncertainty of forcing this baby to grow in a womb of a dead women. And it's become this marathon of "what will happen to corpse baby". I've only READ ABOUT HORROR STORIES LIKE THIS. IN GROSS SCIENCE FICTION. Coma 2012 had a wing full of pregnant woman incubating babies.
I keep going off on toxins, supplements, gaseous exchange - because if these functions are not met, wherein the mothers body is not engineering the essentials to filter toxins from the babies body and the uterus lining, or patches of necrosis began formulate, it may not be immediately apparent from the doctors 'monitoring' this incubation process. Even in the risk factor of the baby, if complications occur where the baby is in distress, the child could die abruptly without prior indication. But the most horrific complications are those surrounding necrosis and sepsis, meaning a very slow and invisible death of the baby. This would be a case the infants brain suffers poisoning, but the infants life functions continue until the scheduled due date and then once delivered, just passes. But none of this is prescribing a painless or peaceful death, let alone a dignified death. The entire thing is just "MAKE THIS BABY GROW SOME OF YOU WILL DIE".
What is worse is following the baby's delivery. Not super worried about a healthy baby making this a thing that is commonplace for practice in hospitals - that would be awful, don't get me wrong. But at least baby has the opportunity to grow and lave behind these fucked up beginnings.
But if the baby is born and viable, but suffers debilitating health issues - the pro-lifers will still call this the poster child and 'miracle' baby, and advocate for more of these situations - REGARDLESS if far more failures and stillborn occur following this 'miracle' situation. That will be gruesome with the child's only purpose was to prove some sort of fuked up point, while ignoring that this child has to live and grow, and will likely be forgotten by the advocates that championed for their life. All while the child will fade into obscurity, with health complications they were forced to inherit by the circumstances of their 'incubation'.
Which is on par with pro-lifers. Once the baby is born, all complications and needs are no longer essential. That baby is no longer useful to their needs, hence they move onto their next champion for "all life is precious and should be protected."
Until that life is torn from the womb and discarded to the unforgiving future.

I like the idea that Mikey was in a coma after the Rise movie due to mystic drain shenanigans. I know the Leo coma arc is basically destiny for most iterations of the turtles at this point, and it definitely has its angst with the older brother/leader being out of commission and the younger brothers floundering as they don't know what to do, but I also like the angst that comes with the baby of the family being in a coma with no certainty of if/when he will wake up. It's double angst too as Leo is probably blaming himself given his sacrifice is the reason Mikey nearly ripped himself apart atom by atom in order to save him. He sacrificed himself in order to make up for his mistake that nearly caused the apocalypse, but instead he just nearly killed his baby brother, and they're not even sure if he'll ever wake up.

headcanon dump on leo’s coma and subsequent injury recovery (based on my recent post about leo’s post-coma voice here)
DISCLAIMER: i am not a doctor in any way, this is purely made up of my own ideas and research so there may be some medical inaccuracies
(due to the following post discussing comas, chronic injuries and other potentially triggering things such as vomiting and couching up blood i advise viewer discretion and encourage that you only read if you feel comfortable. thanks)
during the coma
raph stayed by her side for practically all of the three months, and he was the one who cared for her mainly - cleaning her gently everyday, feeding her and changing the water
mikey was in charge of preparing her food (it was just a mix of blended up nutrient ingredients to keep her as healthy as possible) which was served to her through a brand-new eye dropper which april had brought from the store, because they didn’t have a feeding tube or anything like that
sometimes (when they’d manage to find good money from casey and april doing odd jobs to people that lived in a small town a good few hours away) they would feed her formula as well as the general fluids as it can build muscle and provide extra nutrition
raph stayed with her for most of the time, but he struggled to talk to her as it made him too upset, and donnie also struggled to visit her on his own out of guilt for what had happened in new york, but mikey made sure to hold her hand and talk to her and read to her and sing to her, even when the others told him she couldn’t hear him (he didn’t believe them)
he even made her a ‘get well soon card’ which stayed on the side of the sink in the bathroom
mikey found loads of old books around the farmhouse and read them to her, and years later when they’re back at the lair and watching tv together an adaptation of one of the books comes on and leo frowns in confusion as she swears she’s heard this story before but has no idea where or when, just that it was read to her once but that she can’t remember when or who had read it to her (mikey is sitting quietly next to her and smiling so hard his face hurts)
the others could tell in the van that her leg was very badly damaged but they decided not to try and move it or wrap it up in fear of making it worse as they had no idea what the problem was
donnie and casey built handlebars all around the farmhouse as they knew that her leg was seriously damaged in some way and that she would have serious mobility issues afterwards
donnie made a cane for her as soon as he can as he knows she’d need it but april encouraged him, raph and mikey to decorate it for leo together as they were very distant around each other during the first month of their stay during the farmhouse
april found an old box of pens and paints from the attic and told them all to work together to design and decorate leo’s cane
they made lists of everything leo likes on paper and it took them practically the whole night to decorate the cane with colours, symbols and drawings, but it was the first thing that they all did together and it helped break the ice between the three of them
after the coma
she threw up quite a bit during the first few days of coming out of the coma due to how weak her body was and how overwhelming everything was
at first she remembered bits of the invasion in small pieces, and it slowly came back to her, but it took her at least two weeks to realise that splinter wasn’t with them and she got very upset about this as she remembered shredder before splinter
she sustained much damage to her throat during the invasion, which made her voice much deeper and more hoarse (like donnie said)
it caused her to breathe very noisily and heavily, which she found very humiliating and upsetting
she mainly ate soup/broth for the first few weeks after coming out of the coma due to the pain and difficulty that came with swallowing
she also frequently coughed up blood due to the throat damage which she also found embarrassing
(no one ever made fun of her for any of it, but she did think less of herself for it before raph talked some sense into her and reminded her of how close she was to death and how she needed to be kinder to herself, to which she replied with by telling him he should take his own advice since he’d been neglecting himself ever since the invasion, and after a few seconds of silence the two actually start laughing, though leo’s didn’t sound much like laughter)
none of them realised how dangerous it is for her to be lie down until one night where she suddenly stopped breathing for about twenty seconds, and raph almost broke his voicebox screaming to wake the others up (afterwards leo had to sit up whilst sleeping for a while, and raph always made sure she went to sleep first)
my personal headcanon is that her leg injury is due to a case of chronic patellar instability, which is in simple terms an unstable kneecap, which moves when you bend and straighten your knee
it usually causes pain and stiffness (and sometimes swelling) and a feeling of weakness and looseness and a buckling or locking sensation in the knee
it is not always a chronic condition, but i believe that in leo’s case it is due to the severity of the injury and how it was not really given the proper professional attention it needed soon enough, due to a combination of the invasion and everyone’s lack of medical knowledge (as surgery is available in severe cases of patellar instability, which i believe leo has)
she started wearing a knee brace and using a cane as soon as she could begin to walk around again (which is not straight away) and even then she was slow and unstable due to her injury but even just because the rest of her body was so numb and weak in general
although later on she won’t always be in constant pain so she doesn’t always wear the brace, she does keep the cane because it helps her (and doubles as a weapon in cases of emergency)
after she began to gain back some of her strength she begins some very slow and gentle physical therapy to help her body get back into shape
she lost a considerable amount of weight during the coma due to living off of fluids for three months and is actually slightly underweight when she wakes up, so whilst the others take care to slowly reintroduce real food to her, they make sure it’s full of nutrients and good stuff
also the painkillers she took for the pain make her gain weight too
by the time they leave for new york she is still using her cane and hobbling around, but she is stronger and faster than before, but running still takes a lot longer to get used to without her feeling like she’s going to pass out because of the pain
like i said before, she stops using the brace permanently after regaining her strength and slowly beginning to feel better, but she does have days where the kneecap moves too much and she can’t even touch it because the pain is unbearable so she uses it on and off for the rest of her life
however she keeps the cane (which her brothers decorated for her) and does keep taking painkillers like the rest of them forever (cause they’ve all got chronic injuries and pain together)

Since you are a fan of rise and you do like that Raph. What’s your opinion on 03 Raph and 12 Raph?
Oh ho ho!! I'm actually glad you asked this bc I've been thinking about it a lot lately.
2003 raph is prob one of my favorite turtles in 03. I've only watched the first two seasons of the show, but I love his snark. He has some of the best comeback lines and his dynamic with Mikey is one of my favorite aspects of the show. His "yo mama" line is something I think about a lot haha.
Now 2012 raph. Ohhhh boy him. Having gotten through the first three seasons of 2012, my perception of him has changed drastically. If you showed me just the first two episodes of 2012 (and like...first half of season 1) I would've told you raph is a horrible brother who is nothing more than a bully. But I've watched three seasons of 2012 now and SOMEHOW he's become one of my favorites. Maybe it's bc they soften him a bit in later seasons. Maybe it's bc sometimes I'd sit there and be like...damn he has a right to be angry (I will actually never forgive splinter's "lesson" in s1ep3). Maybe I like really flawed characters? Idk. But as someone whos first introduction of the character was rise/2012 fics, I've now since grown an appreciation for him. 2012 had an extremely rough start with his character, since ya. He was a bully and oftentimes extremely out of pocket with insults. (but honestly all the 2012 turtles were. Raph was just the biggest offender). But like all raphs he's secretly a big softie that's masked by a rough exterior. 2012 raph is what happens if that softness is made fun of and seen as a weakness instead of strength. (Also if the writers don't understand the difference between banter and bullying until like season 2 coughcough) So ya, he's one of my favs now. I have way too much to say about him

The funny thing about 2012! Leo’s window treatment is that he probably can’t describe it without feeling like he’s trying to one-up the other turtles’ trauma.
I mean he:
Gets his home invaded by the Kraang
Has to abandon his Master Splinter to lead his brothers away from danger
Gets separated from his brothers during an alien invasion
Gets jumped by the footbots, Shredder’s henchmen men, and the Shredder himself while separated from his brothers.
Fights tooth and nail to get away, ends up slipping and taking a plunge into cold water, and then gets shredded by the shredder
Is finally flung through the window and is knocked out cold
Is in a coma for THREE MONTHS because of this incident
Wakes up with NYC effectively taken over by aliens, Master Splinter is MIA (possibly dead in his mind), has an absolutely shattered knee (F- the ‘it’s all in my head’ crap), and he can’t even recognize his own voice.
AND on top of ALL THAT. He has to go through all the creepy/weird stuff (which was basically just horror movie plot after horror movie plot) that happened during the farm arc while recovering from his injuries.
But I mean this is kinda assuming he’d actually willingly talk about this stuff and (let’s be real here) he probably wouldn’t. As in true Leo fashion he’d just dismiss his own situation as “not that bad.”

it's snowing pretty hard right now here. it's not settling but it's definitely coming down like crazy and all my mind could think about was how devastatingly cold it must've been during the 2012 s2 invasion
me and my silly thoughts whilst walking in the snow, thinking abt how awful it must've felt for Leo to fight non-stop under frigid conditions, through wind and snow and the biting cold without anything to shield him from it
how the others must've felt, left in already such vulnerable states, and then expected to protect the city under such conditions
how the cold leaves people feeling hopeless and sluggish and how the invasion amplified that feeling by a thousand
goddamn snow making me think about tmnt man...

I've always been a true believer of medic mikey and I've been thinking a lot of 2012 medic mikey today
so here's a bunch of thoughts about it from my twt if it feels weirdly paced and chopped it's because i just copy and pasted from different posts
Tumblr media
Mikey probably started with the want of learning more about medicine after leo ends up in a coma.
Kind of like a brutal awakening that his older brothers are not invincible
until that point he probably helped both donnie and leo with basic first aid, since in 2012, the brothers all seem to know some sort of basic medical knowledge to a certain point (raph carries a first aid with him in half shell heroes meaning they all probably have their own).
Mikey probably sees leo burdened with his father's shadow and the weight of being the leader and letting everyone down, raph so worried about them at all times and so angry at himself for not being able to protect his family better, donnie mostly always stressed out. with no sleep. always having to FIX something and all this probably make mikey realize that putting being a medic on top of any of his brothers would just be for the worst so he decides to take it into himself to specialize in that part.
Mikey would ask help for getting more information to study about medicine and turtle health veterinary from both donnie and april (april would love to help +she can get more physical aid like books from libraries and such while donnie is the one brother who doesn't actually mind what mikey asks him and also actually answers his questions with facts). While studying he most probably would forget a lot about the scientific or actual names for different things so he would just make up his own designations because that way it makes sense to him (his brothers would all learn later on about mikey's own system perhaps because it's just them and it's not like mikey is going to go work at a hospital so it doesn't really affect them much).
Being the group medic just would fit him so well because hes very smart and not squeamish about A LOT of things in comparison to his brothers (throwback to when donnie did said he was actually squeamish in the show) so donnie probably would also encourage him in his studies and even try to help him to retain info with different methods that actually work with Mikey (because of adhd brain) like making references to his favorite show or comics while learning medical info to make it easier for him to focus.
The fact that mikey is the most perceptive of his brothers and also the one to keep a cool head when all of the other ones are losing it, would be factors that help him while being the medic as well.
Mikey being the smallest one and fastest of his brothers so hes probably the only one who could make it to any of them in record time if needed be.
I feel like, since 2012 mikey is the one brother who uses his skateboard the most, he probably would start bringing his skate strapped to his shell everywhere because he can use it as an emergency medical stretcher to move his brothers around in the case he was not able to carry them around physically
maybe even begging leo for a longboard later on because they are bigger which, again, could help him in emergency situations.
Thinking also on how leo probably didn't really talk much about the healing hands technique with his brothers so mikey probably unlocked the healing hands in his own way and in a really high stress situation where the sheer willing force was just wanting to help his family.
Mikey would definitely sing staying alive while giving cpr: muttering the lyrics along in a frenetic way while punching his brother's chest, because of their plastrons, and trying to get him to breath again all while listening his other brothers yells be deafened by the sound of lasers pass by over their heads.
And after being home and safe, he'd give everyone those lollipops right after quickly making sure none of them are dealing with a concussion (he is but hes fine, he promises).

“Horror Crash in Spa: GP2 Champion Hospitalised following a devastating Qualifying Accident.”
by Brian Smith, 27.08.2012 glitterguardianmotorsports.com
Friday evening left the world of motorsports breathless and worried after the seventeen-year-old GP2 Champion Bradley Bradshaw suffered a horrifying accident during qualifying at the GP2 Series round at Spa-Francorchamps. The circuit is renowned for its high-speed corners and elevation changes, and its ability to test the limits of drivers has turned from Bradshaw’s Home race into a Horror Race, while his family had to watch from the paddock.
Representatives from DAMS have issued a statement this morning that the freak accident occurred due to an unexplained mechanical failure of both the brakes and the rear suspension, which led to Bradshaw spinning and slamming into the barriers at around 270 km/h (167mp/h). Upon impact, the racecar went up in flames with the unconscious driver still inside it.
Due to the quick response of the marshals on site, Bradshaw was swiftly extracted from the wreckage and airlifted to a nearby hospital. A source close to the team has revealed that the young driver who was critically injured remains in a medically induced coma, but has suffered minimal burns.
The godson of Formula 1 world champion Pete “Maverick” Mitchell has become a key figure of junior motorsports. The 2012 GP2 campaign was shaping up to be his breakout year as the defending series champion, and he was positioned firmly in the title fight, ranked first in the championship standings.
In response to the accident, DAMS announced that reserve driver Reuben Fitch will take over Bradshaw’s seat for the remainder of the season. Fitch, 19, has impressed in testing but will have to face the noise, stepping into the shoes of a driver who is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in motorsport.
For now, we hope he is able to recover and send strength and prayers to his Family. The entire Motorsports Community anxiously awaits updates regarding the health of Bradley Bradshaw, a prodigy, a true racer and a friend to many here on the grid.
You can find the footage of the accident. [here]
Comments:
f2freak1805: that is one gnarly accident, what the hell happened to that car that it went up in flames the second it hit the wall???
kamitchell96: Hope the kid can recover, what a shame!
cold-driver21: I have never seen someone get pulled out of a gp car like that before, are we actually sure that bradshaw is still alive? x
motordad77: So young! Hats off to the marshals and medics.
