God does not overlook our sin, but he forgives it.
It important to remember that God does not overlook our sin, since it prevents us from taking his grace for granted. It also prevents us from thinking that God will always wipe away the consequences of our sin.
Most times, he will not.
A good father forgives their children when they make a mistake, but they also let them deal with the consequences of their actions. It’s best to learn now than when it has eternal consequences.
God not always clearing up our mess is meant to teach us how destructive sin really is, and how it not only drives us away from the love of God, but also from each other.
Take David’s family, for instance. His affair with Bathsheba lead to her husband’s death, as well as the death of their child. Not only that, but it also lead to sexual assault of David’s daughter, Tamar, and Absalom, his son, hunting him down to kill him.
This story not only strikes home for David, it also warns us of the dangers of sin. It tells us that while God forgives our sin, if we confess them with a humble heart, he will allow us to deal with its consequences.
Going through these types of experiences will not only make sin less appealing to us, but make obeying God that much more desirable.
Sin is like honeycomb in the mouth, but like rocks in the stomach. Obeying God will only leave you wanting more. Sin leads to regret and humiliation, obedience leads to joy and the washing away of our shame.
These types of scenarios are the equivalent of a father forgiving their son or daughter of their sins, but still having them go to time out and to think about what they have done.
It’s painful in the moment, but will lead to an aversion from sin in the future.
Remember, the Lord disciplines and corrects those he loves, and it’s through the pruning that we produce more fruit.
It’s through facing the consequences of our actions that we can learn that our place is to glorify God, and not ourselves. It’s here, in the midst the ashes that we have made of our lives, that we can begin to trust in God to eventually pick up the pieces, and put us back together.
God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️

My Eternal Security
The question of how badly Christians can sin and still be saved troubled me for many years. Growing up in Southern California in the 70’s, I attended Pentecostal churches where I was taught that I could forfeit my salvation through acts of sin or by renouncing my faith. When I asked, “What sins can make me lose my salvation?” the answers were never clear. They varied depending on whom I asked,…

Are You a Troublemaker?
Ahab reigned as king of Israel beginning approximately 860 B.C. (exact dates of his reign vary). It was said that Ahab did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all those who were before him. I Kings 16:30. Under his rule, idolatry was tolerated, even encouraged, largely a result of his evil wife Jezebel’s influence. Ahab erected an altar for Baal and made the Asherah, a wooden idol…

Jeremiah 40:3 Sin Has Consequences
Now the Lord has brought it, and has done just as He said. Because you people have sinned against the Lord, and not obeyed His voice, therefore this thing has come upon you. Jeremiah 40:3 Nearly every action or word has some type of consequence that follows it. Some of those consequences are good, while others are very horrible. Seldom do people really think about the consequence of an action…

Ok thought not fully formed yet but I think everything would make a lot more sense if we thought of "sin" as more along the lines of "something that weakens your connection with God" and less "a morally bad action in the secular philosophical sense."
In modern secular philosophy, usually we only think of an action as "bad" if it causes measurable harm to society/the environment/another person etc. No victim = no crime. This makes perfect sense when we're thinking about regulating behavior with laws, rules, and, to an extent, social norms. The goal of this kind of thinking/regulating is to create a harmonious, free, and safe society in our mortal/temporal/earthly condition.
In contrast, Sin as a religious (Christian) concept is more concerned with the state of an individual soul and that soul's relationship with God. It is possible for something to be a sin and yet be a "victimless crime." (Arguably the "victim" here is actually the "perpetrator" but you know what I mean.) The goal of this kind of thinking is to help the individual be in harmony with God.
I think the problem here is when we conflate the two uncritically. Yes, there is a lot of overlap (murder, for example, would draw you further from God and also is harmful to the murder victim/their family/society.) But the two concepts are not one and the same. Just because a behavior is sinful doesn't mean it can and should be forbidden by law, rule, or even social norm. Likewise, just because enforcing or encouraging a certain behavior is beneficial to society doesn't mean that behavior is or isn't a sin.
I think this conflation is a source of miscommunication and misunderstanding. Lots of people seem to interpret calling a behavior sinful to mean "if you do this you are an bad person who is actively harming society."
I also think that's why people get so turned off by the concept of all sin being equal in the eyes of God. That isn't the same thing as all morally bad actions having equal weight or consequences in society. The point is that all sin separates us from God, and what His plan requires for us is for there to be zero separation. (That's where Jesus comes in). The point of saying all sin is the same in the eyes of God isn't to say that murder and not praying are equivalent in secular morality. The point is that someone "guilty" of not praying needs Jesus just as much as a murderer. (Because! We all need Jesus completely and equally.)
So anyway I guess my point is that Christians need to recognize that just because something is sinful (separates a soul from God) doesn't mean that that thing should be illegal or against the rules or even socially shamed.
But! Non-Christians should also understand that the concept of sin is distinct from secular morality. If I say that something is a sin, don't take it as me saying "anyone who does this is evil and depraved and deserves to be executed by firing squad." girl I sin. we all sin.
#help does this make sense#again! There's overlap#because chances are if you are knowingly causing undue harm (morally wrong) that's also a sin babey#can't think of an exception tbh#also there is kind of a gray area in the middle involving intention and impact#I could do something that causes unforeseen harm#that might not be a sin (I had good intentions) but had bad consequences#but secular morality imo usually has concessions for that sort of thing as well?#christian#christianity#religion#tumblrstake

The Price of Forgiveness
Forgiveness comes at a price. Though it may be offered freely to the offender, it always costs the giver something. The word “forgive” translates the Greek verb aphiemi (ἀφίημι), which means to let go, cancel, send away, or pardon. Forgiveness refers to the act of releasing someone from a debt or offense without demanding payment or retribution. For example, in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus told a…

So happy Jazz had voiced lines but so lowkey pissed he wasn’t voiced with AAVE. Like how could you do my boy dirty like that? Have you no shame? No conscience? Put some RESPECT on his NAME.
Update to clarify:
When making minority-coded characters who aren’t human, you have to be very careful how you depict them. You don’t want to appear stereotypical, but you also have to add some things that identify them as what you’re trying to code them as.
In Jazz’s case, he’s historically been coded as African-American, primarily through a mix of his namesake and the use of AAVE when voicing him.
As a character he’s previously been fantastically done; he isn’t two-dimensional or some kind of stereotypical African-American character shoe-in (the media loves to depict American-Americans as dumb, evil, violent, or all three), he’s competent, friendly, intelligent, with struggles of his own that he’s working to overcome but that don’t stop him from being an amazing character. Overall he’s just an interesting, complex character.
He didn’t have a lot of time to be fleshed out in the movie, but when he did speak he was missing his hallmark AAVE accent. It just rubs me the wrong way, because it makes the African-American-coded part of his identity easier to fly under the radar. Given him being African-American-coded is one of my favorite things about him, it just upsets me.
#duality exists within me#maccadam#transformers#jazz#transformers one#tf one#Pull this again in the sequel and there will be CONSEQUENCES.#some sins can be forgiven etc etc etc#JazzProwl#prowljazz#tf jazz

How many death threats do you think I'd get if I wrote a queer book where the Devil falls in love with Adam from the Garden of Eden when something causes him to Fall from Heaven? And they both have to unlearn their religious trauma? And I retcon the existence of god because I think that's a more interesting take on the concepts of heaven and hell?
#from the desk of anachron#like adam resents him for the garden and lucifer did do that intentionally but regrets the consequences of acting in anger that way#but he also hates that Adam looks down on him for being the Devil#he knows he was prideful in his youth and he knows he didn't really get it#but eons of interaction with human souls will do wonders to make you realize some stuff about yourself#anyway fixing millenia of religious trauma by enjoying sin in moderation to prove good and evil don't actually exist#except as moral judgements we place on ourselves and others

I think Rose had no issues turning into Steven because she knew Pearl would serve him the same way she served her.
And I use the word served intentionally here - while she broke many habits the environment she was in instilled in her, Rose still had subconscious discrimination towards Pearl and you can see it in her actions towards her.
The lack of awareness towards her feelings, disregarding her opinions, uplifting the other gems in ways she never gave her. She was her own Pearl but she was still a Pearl in Rose’s eyes. Her function was that to serve and the war worsened that mindset the both of them already had of Pearls. Rose knew that Pearl would continue her function after she stopped existing and Steven was created
Unfortunately, Pearl really never had a chance and honestly wouldn’t have unless Rose disappeared. Steven truly was the best thing for Pearl’s development
#pearl steven universe#steven universe#rose quartz#and this isn’t to say I wanted Rose to return the feelings#there would’ve always been a power imbalance despite the detachment from gem society#but how rose handled herself towards Pearl was damaging and selfish#she had no worries because well Pearl will handle it! leaving her all of the responsibility and consequences of her actions#I love Steven universe so much the dynamics really are the most incredible#sins posting

when riliane says, “that’s [the continued invasion of elphegort] is not Our doing. that’s what other people have decided,” she’s not ENTIRELY wrong. throughout cloture of yellow i have been thinking about how there are SO many adults around her who have the power to stop riliane’s tyranny, simply by refusing to do things like mobilizing an entire army! something which she wouldn’t be able to do anything about, if her council and generals just said “no”. but most of the people around her constantly enable her by laying down and refusing to oppose any of her childish and wicked whims.
#evillious blogging#evillious chronicles#ec#it’s not that Riliane is exempt from blame—of course she is still responsible for her sins—but it must also be considered that she is a#somewhat possessed 14 year old girl who is allowed to do whatever she wants without consequence#because nobody with the power to oppose her before the point of revolution does so#the most they do is be like ‘hey that’s not right :(‘ when she does bad things. But they still continue to carry out her will
