It's possibly been a bit since they've shared a proper Dream together without Feferi's earlier help having persuaded the Horrorterrors to set up a set of stable dream bubbles for them all to dream together in, but between Roxy's powers being able to knock people out and Calliope's powers of imaginary construction, a space like this in the Void for them to share asleep like this ends up being something they can do and it's sweet and wonderful. :D

So is this the story Dirk is building, alt!Callie is building, or Calliope herself is possibly-unknowingly building, or all of it put together? The way it represents how HS^2 and the Epilogues built atop the original Homestuck would be a good reason it only looked like a block house when Roxy rescued Calliope back in the original story.

Oh wow, they want to SAVE Dirk from himself? That's about as ambitious of a plan as I would expect of Roxy in the full swing of his hero role! :D

I've been thinking more and more about the "Soul-powered Jujus" idea I keep linking to from earlier, and how alt!Calliope's narrative and possession powers were STUNTED when she was splintered in two... which could mean that they could save both Ultimate Dirk and Ultimate Rose by sealing away parts of their broader souls or powers into VESSELS. Possibly creating Skaia itself with fractured shards of Rose's Seer of Light nature or sealing it in the Cueballs, possibly creating Crowbar's Crowbar with part of Dirk's soul-- basically depriving them of their ULTIMATE powers and the corruption that comes with ultimate power, while still leaving enough of them left to be an individual self, see sense and survive.

There's almost no question left anymore with that latest revelation about the returning bubbles from their destination that the nature of the competition between Skaia and the Horrorterrors that forms the nature of the game itself is going to be established in this new Delta/Omega session or whatever you'd like to call it, and that means that the guidance and storywriting potential of the Great Powers that are Skaia and the Horrorterrors must be created, and only an absolutely incredible power could possibly become such quiet yet nigh-omniscient guides. Countless hints like the Orange/Purple "tick, tock" when Jade bet on alt!Calliope freeing her are hinting that the color themes of the Prospit/Derse alignments are retroactively the responsibility of the wills of Dirk and Rose in the first place, somehow diluted and conveyed all across Paradox Space to write these "stories" for every set of heroes and the challenges they have to face. The fulcrum between which the heroes' wills are the only force capable of finding hope and new life from the seeds of the doomed conflict. To quote Aradia back in Act 5:

FAA: a pr0duct 0f c0llusi0n between the disparate f0rces at play FAA: a bargain struck between what skaia kn0ws already and what the g0ds demand up fr0nt FAA: t0gether they 0rchestrate trials sufficient t0 ensure FAA: that in 0verc0ming them we w0uld be pr0ven w0rthy FAA: 0f inheriting the ultimate reward

Dirk is one of the only people with the power to divide a soul such as his, however... unless the awakening of Brain Ghost Dirk out in (Candy) land serves as enough of a fulcrum to partially disarm him like alt!Callie was disarmed earlier. (Or unless that taxidermied body Jade dropped wasn't just Dave's as would have been most obvious, but possibly Dirk's too...) Maybe things can turn so disastrous that they can convince Dirk to shatter HIMSELF, as he may be one of the only ones who can possibly do it, not just Ultimate Rose? Maybe seeing what he's wrought can eventually change a mind even as stubborn as his to some extent? Or maybe fracturing himself to become responsible for EVERY STORY THAT EVER EXISTS IN PARADOX SPACE is at the same time a core part of Dirk Strider's endgame plan, and by that point he'll have already won from his perspective, except to realize that the reality they've sealed OUTSIDE Paradox Space is more free and worthwhile to the readers than the one stuck inside it?

Right, because alt!Calliope DID SAY that she would be taking the original Jade back over when they neared too close to their destination. So Calliope and Roxy are helping form a plan to earn an even better ending than what alt!Calliope can direct them to achieve alone...

Ooh, so we get some exposition from the source herself, who may actually be on-board with their planning, hopefully, as much as her hijacking of Jade Harley for so long put them at odds with her and her tendency to try and dominate with her power.

So we're picking up again and continuing to run with the theme that the READERS' need for loops to be tied up and satisfying conclusions to the story the kids successfully ESCAPED, at the end of Homestuck original, is what DRAGGED THEM BACK IN and is keeping them tortured by being "stuck" in a story other people are telling? Like the Monkey's Paw analogue Andrew originally described in his Q&A after the Epilogues about them always having been meant as a flawed wish because the readers wanting to know what happened next, by necessity, trapped the characters in a plot again instead of leaving them free? Daring for this to be brought back again along with all the other themes Dirk as the author avatar who must be stopped, who must be outdone by the fanmade story (Candy) outside canon, needing to be defeated.

calliope: although i doubt it can be restored to its original state, the growth can be curbed. calliope: with or without your assistance, these antics can be brought to a satisfying and hopefully timely conclusion. calliope: the prince thwarted, the renovations finished, and the rest of the recalcitrant furniture bolted neatly back into its place. Yeah this is a very alt!Calliope view, and the reflections of a different but similarly somewhat villainous sort of author avatar to mirror Dirk Strider -- alt!Calliope reflects the author's need to close every loop, patch up every hole, get all these fanmade additions under control and create a story that wraps up in a neat bow... even if the characters would still be better off FREE of said story. There are extents to which she's as much the author as Dirk, and can't be certain she's not another villain, having done so much damage to shatter the Green Sun and Paradox Space in the first place by leading her brother around in a shitty circle.

"AL" is an ominous name, reminiscent of Cal, Hal, LE. Is it for "ALternate!calliope"? Or is there a deeper meaning?

I wonder if and when events will finally convince alt!Callie that she may have chosen wrong.

Perhaps when the Plot Point does its thing and she finally sees the story that the original Calliope, the one she has always overlooked, and how the readers are more compelled by it than by the author-forced march of suffering alt!Callie and Dirk are forcing the story through to tie things back to the beginning, necessary as it SEEMS to them.

Well, well, well. Look who comes crawling back. Had your fill of splashing around in the narrative kiddy pool? Sick of its sterile, chlorinated, artificial reek, its mind-numbing placidity punctuated only by the occasional thrashing tantrums of whiny fucking crybabies and the shrill rebuke of the lifeguard? Ready to take the floaties off and dive back into the depths of the churning, primal ocean from which everything that matters in this story evolved, and to which it must inevitably return? Of course you are. Come join me, the water's fine.

I still love how the moral of this ENTIRE sequel is supposed to be that we're finally shown the origins of Paradox Space's propagation system itself and every loose thread that could have ever been tied up in the entire story, and we're all going to care infinitely more about Yiffany Longstocking Lalonde Harley and all the characters and their unlikely children finding happiness in a ridiculous fanfic timeline than any of that LORE SHIT. What a cool Death of the Author moral for a story to have. --I forgot for a moment that alt!Calliope, one of the competing authors, is literally DEAD and still trying to maintain absolute control of the story from beyond the grave. Moving beyond HER too sounds like it may also have some meaning.

As you've hopefully gathered by now, things are happening again. They've been happening again for a while now, since a certain handsome somebody decided to get off his toned, muscular ass and ascend to godhood for the sake of getting the narrative and all his friends' lives back on track (you're welcome, by the way), but they're especially happening again here and now. When last you left us, our Contest had just begun. Rose and I were beginning the lengthy and convoluted process of engineering our own races to populate Deltritus, meticulously tweaking their genetic profiles and respective collective unconscious-es in an effort to create a species fit to conquer the next session of the Game.

Blah blah blah, recap recap recap. Guess it's been so long that you feel like you need to outline the whole premise of the contest again for us because we've been too busy having fun seeing everything else that was going on, and you needed to hide the two alien races you'd set up from us a while longer. (Are Rose's the necro-something?)

Well, I was. Rose dipped pretty early on in that visual montage to spend some quality time trading barbs and bumping uglies with the supposedly impartial proctor of said Contest, next to the vacant meat-sack that once housed her consciousness. Irresponsible, sure, but to give credit where due, it was irresponsible in a poignant and symbolically weighty sort of way. Classic Rose shit. Rest assured, however, that since then she's spent at least as much time throwing herself into the work as she has cruising for the occasional caliginous bruising.

He's really tailor-made his tone of voice to piss everyone off, hasn't he.

It's been a pretty good time, to be honest. Every now and then I can feel her interest waning, but she's done an incredible job cooking up a witty retort of a race to the deep rhetorical questions posed by my equally-if-not-even-more-bombastically-inspired offspring. She's proven herself a worthy rival, and a worthier collaborator. Her patience for this particular stage of our grand designs is starting to fray, but it's just as well; both of us have essentially done all we feel we can do to lay down solid bio-physio-psycho-sociological foundations for our chosen peoples. Rose's growing discomfort with and desire to move on from this process helps to curb an urge of mine that she's correctly identified as a deep-seated need to micromanage things I care about. A few days back we both agreed that it's high time we get this fucking show on the road, so we've put the finishing touches on our scions and are just about ready to drop them kicking and screaming into the wilds of this beautiful, doomed planet.

Time to stop dirkblocking us and show us your "fantastic" pair of alien races then? Are they going to have any characters we actually begin to care about? You'd better hope so for your sake.

Odds are the whole races either transform to some other force in the eventual game that becomes Sburb or simplify themselves into the white and black Chess People, but you (Dirk) probably knew that already.

Makes sense, with the depiction movement we've been seeing lately. And embraces his awful older bad-parent-to-Dave self more. Reflecting that facet of his broader Soul/existence more.

--Alright, phew. I should pace myself a bit and actually stop here for the day. As much as I'd love to get back to Vrissy seeing Yiffy for the first time, there isn't TOO much of a rush back there yet it looks like, and whatever is between there and here seems to be too wide and juicy, and I've been liveblogging for something like eight hours straight, so I probably shouldn't push myself too hard. I'm definitely coming back to this within a few days, though, because Homestuck^2 is hooking me more and more.

We'll probably see those new races finally this next time!

i made a tier list outlining sonic the hedgehog's expansive and incredibly complicated found family as it appears in the hit smash bros-based d&d 5e campaign Bash Extravaganza. yes, i said tier list, not tree. there is no other way i could have feasibly formatted it. list itself + explanation of certain categories under the cut. click on it for quality.

tails: "our meeting is a fulfillment of a cosmic truth and the idea of a world without you is so strange and unnatural that it simply does not occur to me. i am your brother before i am anyone else's brother, son, cousin, or nephew. if i did not have any of these people i would still have you and if i had all of them except for you my life would not feel complete." distinct from sibling tier because none of his siblings are his siblings in the way that tails is [family] by relation: he shares a familial relationship with them through someone else (adopted by the same person on separate occasions, for example) and does consider them family, but probably wouldn't consider them family if not for the shared relationship. this is the "yeah sure" category [family] by choice: he considers them family, and would consider them as such with or without a previously existing shared relationship. people in "by relation" can move into "by choice" if sonic is close enough to them, or in other words if "yeah sure" becomes "100% absolutely" nebulous unlabeled family: they don't really go in any particular category but if asked if he considers them family he'd go "uhhhhh y'know? yeah" and not elaborate. [family] adjacent friend: he doesn't call them [family] nor does he consider them as such, but he behaves around them in a manner similar to how he behaves around his actual [family]. sibling-adjacent friend could probably fit more sonic characters like silver in there but i didn't feel like it family of family: what it says on the tin. he shares a familial relationship with them thru someone else but does not consider them family either because they just aren't that close, had a falling out, or literally have not met. eternally incomplete tier because all four of his parents are serial adopters and every now and then he gets a text like "hey you have a new sibling" honorable mentions: im not sure if he considers them family but while i was making the list his muse picked them up and rotated them for a bit and then set them back down without giving me a conclusive answer one way or the other. bronev: on the list for the express purpose of emphasizing how not on the list he is. fuck this guy.

note 1: making the distinction between By Choice and By Relation is important because there are situations like, for example, the fact that he is cousins with both Joker (Persona 5) and Goro Akechi. Joker and Akechi aren't cousins with each other and are, in fact, dating. Akechi is Sonic's cousin because Sonic's uncle (Jean Descole) adopted him, but Joker is Sonic's cousin because they looked at each other and went "yeah we're cousins now." but, again, they aren't each other's cousins. they both just happen to be cousins with sonic.

(akechi is in By Choice now, but he was in By Relation in previous editions of the list. he moved into Choice as they grew closer)

note 2: the picture of the house sparrow in Cousins (By Relation) isn't representative of an actual sparrow. it's a character named Sparrow (who is an oc). when i first made the list i didn't feel like hunting down his ref, so i just threw in a sparrow and called it a day, and then it became a bit. he's also descole's son, by the way.

do you see why it could not be a family tree. do you see what he makes me put up with. there are probably several people i've forgotten. i love this campaign.

great that we've found a year worse for my mental health than 2020! anyway, this list has been typed up since January 9 and I just haven't managed to put it up.

I should really do better at getting these up bc at this point it's hard to summarize last year. I read 371 books in 2024 and have already read more than that in 2025 thus far because again, Bad Year.

AM HC DUMP ( please i'm obsessed with this little freak please think he's cool too )

full name is asmodeum but peter insists on giving him a nickname because "that's what friends do"; he settles for am because he hates "azzy" and "modi" ( almost pronounced like "moody" bc grump teehee ).

he is what's known as a guardian. his kind exist suspended in deep space within the d-16 dimensional region ( the highest tier of dimensions, where the deities, guardians and likewise ilk reside ) waiting to be called on. think of it like a "prayer" being answered, only it is exclusively for supernatural / magical matters. they typically are granted to those looking to hone magical / cosmic power and act as their teachers. they are impervious to morality, meaning a guardian in the wrong hands is potentially a universe-ender. luckily, peter is pure of heart and seeks only to release himself from his curse. typically, when the goal has been achieved guardians are then put down as they are simply too dangerous to leave laying around in other dimensions. however, when peter murks the cult and frees himself of paimon, he refuses to do so with am, claiming that they're still friends and he still has so much to learn.

has an ego, but it's arguably deserved. this isn't to say his arrogance can't be annoying / even a little mean, but he is factually a denizen of the highest ranking dimension in the entire universe lmao. unless you are also from there, you are naught but a speck of dust on his radar and he has no problems letting you know that if you get smart with him. is a total tsun ( i actually loathe that term but i know people will understand what i mean if i use it lmao ) once the Fee-Fees start setting in. you mustn't know that he enjoys your presence. that would be ridiculous. totally unfounded and foolish of you to assume that a being of such standing would care for you. don't be daft. is not even technically a "he", but peter asks how he should refer to am and am responds that he is indifferent as he has no need for gender. hilariously, when peter asks if he's a she, he reacts with a dissatisfied noise and so peter goes with he ( his first suggestion is actually they; he persists because am himself sounds unconvinced / vaguely unsure and he wants to get it right ). in the case of humans, he finds bodily functions SO WEIRD. when i tell you peter once got the hiccups and the first time that sound left him am jumped and demanded to know what was wrong with him? yeah. when he finds out y'all need to excrete? -50 friendship points permanently. refers to his brain as "the database". guardians are incredibly knowledgeable creatures ( it's kind of their purpose, to know things, lmao ) and are capable of gleaning information about both objects and people in a few seconds via 'scanning' them. he's like a sentient google without the shitty capitalism. on the topic of referring to stuff, refers to peter as "[his] master" and seldom uses his name until later on. another common term is "[his] wielder". this is typical of a guardian, as despite their great power they are adopted into a subservient role. peter has mixed feelings about it as he views he and am as equals and friends from the beginning. will offer assistance to others if they ask directly, but typically is very driven and dedicated to peter. keeps his interests at the forefront and doesn't take kindly to 'distractions' ( though cannot separate 'distractions' from friends just being friends until later ). NOT receptive to touch. only peter may hold him unless you gain his permission ( which he is rather tight with ). you'll get zapped if you try to grab him without his express consent; if you persist, the zap will increase in voltage until it eventually becomes powerful enough to end your life. thankfully, once is enough for most people. i have to reiterate: AM IS A STAFF. HE IS NOT A PERSON. that being said, later on into his development he becomes aware of the importance of connection between humans and opts to adopt a form to better communicate himself to them. THIS FORM IS A PROJECTION, but he is such a powerful entity that it is a corporeal one. he can be interacted with as you might a person unless he wills the opposite.

I've finally relistened to everything (okay, minus SWH2) and I'm able to have a full tier list!! A little bit scared to post this cause ooOo opinions but my brother + my lovely mutual Note said to just do it

Some explanations under the cut:

Sleep Evil Sleep is my favorite SPG song and rightfully deserves it's own category. It references Alice!! 🥹

My S tier I think is fairly standard? It's Cosmic places based on intro alone

A tier is all the ones I get a little more excited about when they play on Spotify. This tier maker was missing SWH's Clockwork Vaudeville which is upsetting cause that's the version I like. Blue Portals was added TODAY btw, god I love Hatchworth

B tier is all the rest of the songs I like! I listen to the 09' versions technically, although I'm not sure there's a difference with Captain there. Delilah and Love World were added here, as well as the other 1896 songs I ended up liking

Next tier is more like D. Not on my playlist, don't know the words, but if I were listening to a SPG everything playlist, I wouldn't skip them. I like What's In A Name but you know I'm not gonna learn it

F tier is where I think I'm gonna get eaten by vultures. I think I've stated before that I don't like The Jon's songs. It's the wrong brand of silly for me. I'm pretty sure Juju Magic is like really well liked, but oops I'm me. OG Clockwork Vaudeville is too long and like scary? As far as I recall? And I know this is the worst opinion ever, but Brass Goggles is overstimulating. I have the same reaction to famous Will Wood song Thermodynamic Lawyer

< not as good as Winter soldier or the last Avengers movie. Tony and Bruce? creates an AI Ultron who is his daddy's son to be fair. Weird Bruce/Natasha thing that apparently ended just as abruptly as it began. Natasha's writing was wack and there was plausible reference to her being a monster for not being able to have children which is crazy... Wanda and Pietro (rip) are introduced properly, adored their dynamic. Unfortunately everyone was super weird to this 16 year old kids who were hella experimented on and traumatized their whole life. Vision is also introduced and I love him and his pure curiosity to the world around him and his quippy personality.

C tier: mediocre but good-ish wouldn't watch again tho

Tel is such fun to write, I loved going from that impression of this lackadaisical sellsword who's only in it for the coin to what's probably Chrysanthe's staunchest ally (even more than Lucien who has his own life to lead, and arguably even more than Miraak who has his own agenda). Making him the nerevarine was the icing on that cake :D

Aw thank you! I will be honest, I set out to write it as a Miraak romance ('cause that voice is top tier) and way to keep myself invested in my own Skyrim playthrough so a lot of the themes developed very organically. 'The First meets the Last' has always felt prime for soulmates theming to me, and it ties in nicely with the desire to be known, and the fact that no-one else does or really can know the Dragonborn, by their very nature. Someone described the romance as 'cosmic' in one comment I think, and that knocked my socks off because who doesn't want to write a cosmic romance?!?!

Sonic Adventure 2 Stage Tierlist based on where would be best to have a beer:

-Dry Lagoon. The vibes are immaculate. This place was asking for it. You even have a turtle friend.

-Sand Ocean. Nighttime, so the heat won't be overbearing. Lots of fires to hang next to.

-Radical Highway. Has the feeling of drinking with a friend on top of a building that's still under construction. Lots of cool lights in the city since it's nighttime.

-Route 101 and 280. Boozing and Cruising at it's most enjoyable, albeit obviously very dangerous.

-Wild Canyon. Seems hot, but that makes the ice cold beer nicer. Sit back and enjoy the breeze from the center of the stage, enjoy the ancient statues and scenery.

-Metal Harbor. Sunny, great scenery, get to watch a rocket launch. Only in A tier because it's a military base and they don't want you to be there.

-Pumpkin Hill. Great views, but there are a lot of opps. Also spooky scary.

-Pyramid Caves. Lots of cool scenery, not very many places in particular to relax.

-Lost Colony. All the cool vibes of Eternal Engine and Crazy Gadget, with much fewer opps AND the whole building has no power. Feels like drinking in an abandoned mall.

-Sky Rail. Lots of cool scenery, but very precarious.

-Death Chamber. Uninviting name, and many opps, but the vibes are pretty cool. Enjoy the fire crackling

After 25 years of international collaboration operating the largest and most technologically advanced laboratory in low Earth orbit, the current decade of research results has seen thousands of researchers around the world completing their investigations, analyzing their data, and publishing their findings. Through close examination of station client feedback obtained since 2002, station program managers, administration personnel, and technical staff have improved their processes and software tools to enhance communication with research teams for better in-flight data collection and sample return. These refinements affect experiment results and the conclusions researchers draw. The enhanced planning and coordination of investigation launch, stowage, crew time allocation, accessibility to station’s research capabilities (i.e., facilities), and data delivery are critical to the effective operation of scientific projects for accurate results to be shared with the scientific community, sponsors, legislators, and the public. Over 3,700 investigations have operated since Expedition 1, with more than 250 active research facilities, the participation of more than 100 countries, the work of more than 5,000 researchers, and over 4,000 publications. The growth in research (Figure 1) and international collaboration (Figure 2) has prompted the publication of over 560 research articles in top-tier scientific journals with about 75 percent of those groundbreaking studies occurring since 2018 (Figure 3). Using bibliometrics, a broad range of challenges in research management and research evaluation can be addressed. A total of 567 top-tier publications through the end of FY-23 are shown by year and research category. In this year’s edition of the Annual Highlights of Results, we report findings from a wide range of topics in biology and biotechnology, physics, human research, Earth and space science, and technology development – including investigations about plant root orientation, tissue damage and repair, bubbles, lightning, fire dynamics, neutron stars, cosmic ray nuclei, imaging technology improvements, brain and vascular health, solar panel materials, grain flow, as well as satellite and robot control. The findings highlighted here are only a small sample representative of the research conducted by all the participating space agencies – ASI (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana), CSA (Canadian Space Agency), ESA (European Space Agency), JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency), Roscosmos, and NASA – on station in the past 12 months. Many more studies in fiscal year (FY)-23 revealed remarkable results, such as finding reduced fat accumulation in the bone marrow (MARROW), identifying gene mutations that preserve muscle (Molecular Muscle), improving optical beams…detecting bacterial antibiotic resistance during spaceflight (Plazmida), observing abnormal cell division of human neural stem cells (STaARS Bioscience-4), among others. A full list of all the publications collected in FY-23 can be found at the end of this report. A publicly accessible database of space station investigations and publications can be found in the Space Station Research Explorer (SSRE) website, and all editions of the Annual Highlights of Results from the International Space Station can be found through the Past Annual Highlights of Results from the Space Station Research Results Library. Between Oct. 1, 2022, and Sept. 30, 2023, we identified a total of 330 articles associated with station research. Of these 330 articles, 268 appeared in peer-reviewed journals, 59 in conference proceedings, and 3 in gray literature such as books, magazines, technical reports, or patents. Articles are also categorized based on how authors obtained their results. There were 204 publications that reported direct implementation of the science aboard station (i.e., Results), 37 that reported development of the payload prior to operation on station (i.e., Flight Preparation), and 89 that emerged as follow-ups to station science (i.e., Derived). Because derived articles are new scientific studies generated from shared data, derived science is an additional return on the investment trusted to station science. For FY-23, this return on investment was 27 percent. Full definitions of these publication types (i.e, Results, Flight Preparation, and Derived) categories can be found on page 10 of this report. Figure 4 shows a stacked chart with the count of articles collected in FY-23 broken out by space agency and research category. In summary, we found three articles for CSA, 43 articles for ESA, 58 articles for JAXA, 10 articles for Roscosmos, and 216 articles for NASA. Of the 330 articles collected in FY-23, 66 were articles published prior to Oct. 1, 2022. Measuring Space Station Impacts The significant impact of sustained international multidisciplinary research in microgravity can be observed through the findings published in world-class scientific journals that adhere to a rigorous scientific peer-review process. With the assistance of Clarivate, a global database that collects publication and journal information for annual journal ranking and metrics, we identified the top findings produced by station researchers. One parameter, the journal’s Eigenfactor Score2, ranks each journal based on readership and influence, including the different citation standards of each discipline. From Oct 1, 2022, to Sept 30, 2023, 78 articles appeared in top-tier journals. Of those 78 articles, 26 were reported in top 20 journals (see Table 1). Table 1. In addition to the research diversity and top-tier results obtained from station, a comparison of station science to global and US standards of category-normalized citation impact (i.e., adjusted impact of a publication based on its research area) shows greater influence of station science since 2010 compared to other research endeavors taking place domestically or internationally. The authority of station research was particularly prominent in 2019, and it continues to hold its place in the scientific community to date. Figure 5 illustrates this important comparison. Figure 5. The high impact of space station is in great part attributed to the researchers who conduct transformative science in low Earth orbit. As shown in Table 2, four studies published in FY-23 have already received much acclaim from others in their field. Table 2. List of articles published in FY-23 that have been widely recognized in a short period of time. *NICER reported two additional FY-23 publications with over 10 citations. Advancements in technology and research on station have inspired students all over the world to pursue STEM careers, encouraged researchers to explore bold questions, and incentivized economies through the initiation of businesses in the space industry. While some of the most decisive steps toward space commercialization are recent, researchers from small and large companies, academic institutions, and government agencies have been conducting experiments in space since 2005 through the International Space Station National Lab. Today, the hard work is paying off. In FY-23, we collected 39 publications from investigations sponsored by National Lab with fascinating results in droplet behavior for the improvement of condensing systems (Drop Vibration), the reliable use of a genome examination and editing tool (Ax-1 CRSPR), the identification of specific gut bacteria involved in bone loss (Rodent Research-5), the use of neural networks for improved image analysis (Spaceborne Computer-2), and much more. In addition to the accomplishments of the International Partners and NASA on space station, National Lab’s alternative route to send investigations to space have demonstrated that new paths can be explored to expand research in microgravity for the advancement of science and benefit of humanity. Evolution of Space Station Results The archive of space station investigations went online in 2004. Since that time, changes to methods for tracking investigations and publications have been implemented, including increased differentiation between research disciplines and a re-characterization of publication fields. Currently, the following publication types are included in the Program Science Toolbox: Flight Preparation Results – publications about the development work performed for an investigation, facility, or project prior to operation on space station. Station Results – publications that provide information about the performance and results of an investigation, facility, or project as a direct implementation on station or on a vehicle to space station. Derived Results – publications that use data from an investigation that operated on station, but the authors of the article are not members of the original investigation team. Derived Results articles have emerged as a direct outcome of the open-source data initiative, which gives access to raw data for new researchers to analyze and publish innovative results, expanding global knowledge and scientific benefits. Patents – applications filed based on the performance and results of an investigation, facility, or project on station, or on a vehicle to space station. Related – publications that lead to the development of an investigation, facility, or project. Linking Space Station Benefits Space station research results lead to benefits for human exploration of space, benefits to humanity, and the advancement of scientific discovery. This year’s Annual Highlights of Results from the International Space Station includes descriptions of just a few of the results that were published from across the space station partnership during the past year. Space station investigation results have yielded updated insights into how to live and work more effectively in space by addressing such topics as understanding radiation effects on crew health, combating bone and muscle loss, improving designs of systems that handle fluids in microgravity, and determining how to maintain environmental control efficiently. Results from the space station provide new contributions to the body of scientific knowledge in the physical sciences, life sciences, and Earth and space sciences to advance scientific discoveries in multi-disciplinary ways. Space station science results have Earth-based applications, including understanding our climate, contributing to the treatment of disease, improving existing materials, and inspiring the future generation of scientists, clinicians, technologists, engineers, mathematicians, artists, and explorers.
