Addy was raised primarily by their father, who was a curt and relatively distant figure. This led her to being extremely close with her brother, Maddox. Around puberty, they came out as transgender, where Maddox playing a vital role in helping Addy get access to HRT. Her father accepted the change with little protest, but proceeded to expect Addy to conform to feminine gender roles, including taking over the majority of housework on her own, and berating Maddox if he was caught helping. Eventually, the siblings were able to move out to go to college, where Addy studied photography and investigative journalism, their two great passions.

When Heartless began appearing in their world, Addy leapt into action to figure out what was going on. They began cataloguing photographs and accompanying data she could about each type of creature, including sharing their email address publicly for people to send reports of any sightings.
