Deuce hears it so often he’s not even surprised anymore.

From underclassmen in the cafeteria to random upperclassmen in the hallways, the reaction’s always the same.

“You mean that Ace? Like, Ace Trappola? No way they’re related. Are you sure?”

The confusion never ceases to amuse and confuse everyone—except Deuce.

He gets it. You’re kind, quiet, polite to a fault. You smile at ghosts when they float by Ramshackle and thank the chef ghosts for your meals. You’re always the one with band-aids in your bag, the one who helps Grim reach the higher shelves in the library without complaining about his fireballs.

You're basically the unofficial nurse, therapist, and cheerleader of any anxious student, while your brother…

Well.

“TRAPPOLA!” Riddle roars in the background, and Deuce flinches.

Yep. That.

So no one really blames Deuce for being a little surprised the first time Ace introduced you. He’d been expecting another troublemaker with a grin like a loaded slingshot.

Not someone who greeted him with a soft, “Oh! You must be Deuce! Ace says a lot about you,” with a smile that knocked the breath out of him.

“Not all bad things, I hope?” he’d stammered, ears turning pink.

You just giggled, tucking a stray hair behind your ear.

“Well… it is Ace. But I don’t believe everything he says.”

And just like that, Deuce was gone.

“I’m serious, I think my sibling’s casting some weird love spell on everyone or something,” Ace grumbles one day, flipping a playing card over in frustration.

“They’re just… nice,” Deuce says, ducking his head to hide his blush.

“Yeah, to the point it’s suspicious. It’s like they got all the angel genes and I got all the cool ones.”

“Wouldn’t call it that,” Deuce mutters, but Ace is already too busy cheating at cards to hear him.

The truth is, Deuce can’t help it.

He finds himself looking for you on campus. Not in a creepy way—he just feels better when you're around.

You talk to him like he’s not just a delinquent trying to play hero. Like he’s someone worth talking to.

Once, you caught him struggling to carry potion ingredients, and without a word, you took half the load into your arms.

“Teamwork makes the dream work,” you’d smiled.

He had to stare straight ahead the whole walk back so you wouldn’t see how red his face had gotten.

“Hey, Deuce?”

He looks up from where he’s fixing something outside the dorm. You’re hugging a pillow to your chest, hair tousled from a nap, and his brain short-circuits for a moment before he manages, “Yeah? Did you just wake up?”

“I was sleepy, so I took a nap…but that doesn't matter... I mean, you want to go to the Mystery Shop with me?” you ask.

“Ace’s stuck in detention, and I… well, I kind of wanted your opinion.”

“My opinion?” Deuce blinks. “On… what?”

You shift shyly.

“I want to buy a charm. For someone. But I’m not sure which one suits him better.”

He stares. His eye twitched a little unconsciously as he felt his heart now beat in a sadder rhythm.

“...Is it for a classmate?”

You hum.

“Mhm. He’s really sweet. A little clumsy. Tries really hard to do the right thing. I think he likes bastcycles?”

Oh.

Oh.

His brain stutters like a bad engine.

“...Wait. Is that—”

Your grin breaks through like sunlight.

“It’s you, dummy.”

He just about drops the wrench.

By the time you two are officially dating, the confusion on campus triples.

“Ace’s sibling? Them? Dating Deuce? What is going on in that family?!”

But Deuce doesn’t care what people say. You make him feel calm. Whole.

Like maybe he doesn’t have to prove himself all the time just to deserve good things.

And when you sit next to him during class and gently fix his tie, or when you sneak him snacks during long lectures with a wink, he feels it again—that dizzy warmth in his chest.

And if he sometimes ends up sparring with Ace over who gets to walk you to class, well… he’s not sorry.

Just binged TADC like I said I would ummm I like to think that all of them together are a Girl Group (even Kinger and Zoob idc) except for Jax. Cooked this up (not cooking anything just getting my thoughts together lmao everybody knows this) when Pomni and Gangle were behind the store and the latter was like "I love Ragatha but..." whatevah whatevah. They all have a varying proficiency for casually saying I Love So-and-So except for HIM he cannot do it like so far none of them have tried to antagonize each other and will openly offer support when they can like duhhh we all saw the funeral...... Close like coworkers after a really bad shift. Close like cousins who have nothing in common but are still beloved to one another cuz they're family and they've known each other forever. And then you have that GUY who has both rejected and been denied (for fair reasons) any kind of camaraderie at all except for occasional olive branches that he twists into a prank or sum lol. Like he has to know he's lonely. There has to be an ache in him whenever he sees people that there's NO SHOT he'll be able to get on better terms with (without significantly damaging his reputation) just laughing and cutting up and helping each other along. He actually has no one lol what does he do all day. My timeline for him (in my heart) is that he enters the circus and has an Okay attitude for a while even though he's a borderline a toxic person irl until he starts messing w people to break the monotony. He gets farther and farther into the Menace act until it's too late to turn around and now he can Only Be That. Sometimes you get so deep into a role that you make for yourself that the only way out of it is to dip out. Weird example but ummm leaving home for college will make your personality do a whole backflip and seeing people who knew you for what you used to be is a little uncanny. Except he can't escape. There's no clean slate anywhere in sight. Lowkey I think he's patiently waiting to abstract because at least then he won't have to worry about wanting friends (he won't have to worry about wanting to be loved who said that). Abstracting is easier than apologizing. Abstracting is easier than changing your behavior and beholding the consequences and being a witness to the way people look at you. Have you ever been sitting at lunch and you hear the laughter of ppl who over the years have slowly become your enemies? Did you ever say something horrible to someone and it's all you can think about every time you're around them?? Do you know what it's like to be around someone who has painted a picture of you in their head so vividly that you cannot be anything else to them and any unpredicted action from you would be so so so grotesque?? Don't @ me on this but I think we all know he has Gender Issues and personally I think he'd act so different if another guy joined the cast. I think he'd be like THANK GOD (translation: someone who can understand me!) like does he know he can be friends with girls and be nice to girls and they can add wonderful things to his life and he can add wonderful things to their lives?? Like he does not need to show off all the time how cool and aloof he is. I think he's waiting for the Perfect Friend (someone who is a reflection of himself) like all lonely ppl do and dismissing the Real People who are already around him. this is the one problem not exclusive to the finale, god ed's character arc just. didnt do it for me at all. I excused it before cuz I thought it would pay off as the season went on but nope. he never had a genuine apology moment, just that youtuber apology like gag and the cat collar joke. like they literally show us how the crew was completely scarred by his actions but theyre later just completely fine with him on board???? and stede keeps being his biggest stan when I think he would have been like hey what the fuck!! im sorry I hurt you but I am not responsible for your actions and you hurt my crew whom I hold very dear!! I love ed but Fuck he really went too far those first episodes and he never makes up for it. they only ever focus on His Own self journey, not how he hurt and traumatized practically every other character.

I know they had an important relationship but that shit should have been talked about way beforehand, it deserved closure. they should have acknowledged they werent good for each other and made peace with it. izzy deserved a death with people who actually made him happy. lastly I swear they forgot stede is the main character. they forgot literally everything about how to write him. he gets No Focus in the finale, and every scene he is in is bullshit. I actually wanted to punch my screen every time there was a joke about him being incompetent or whatever. like, hello??? thought we left that shit in s1??? he had Multiple Episodes about learning to be a pirate and adjusting to his new life and gaining more skills but no. he is just silly old loserboy for his cool war criminal boyfriend now. literally no skills or experience whatsoever. ok sure yea thats totally how he acted the rest of the season. also the fuck is it with him staying behind to run the inn with ed?? wasnt the whole conflict last episode their different desires out of life, with ed wanting to start a normal life and stede wanting to be a pirate?? when the Fuck did he change his mind. who are you and have you done with my boy

Fandorm Showcase #4 - The Emperor's New Groove

Okay, a bit of a funny thing I did with these dorms is that they're made to be a kind of parallel to the main seven dorms in terms of vibe or theme. So, the fact this would have a similar plotline to Scarabia's story is just too good to not bring it up.

Presenting the magnificent dorm inspired by the Emperor's New Groove...

Aztesurco!

The name is taken from Aztec (the overall ethnicity of the movie) and surco (which is groove in quechuan), and it's mostly inspired by Yzma, the main villain of the movie.

"Heh, really rolls off the tongue huh?"

This dorm centers around having eccentricity and flair, as well the intelligence and strategic mind to boot. They also specializes in transfiguration potionology and spells, which requires skilled alchemy knowledge or magical prowess to achieve in order to become the housewarden. However...that rule doesn't seem to apply with the current presiding housewarden.

"Why do you even need to meet the requirements? Clearly only one dude gets the job done, and it's yours truly!"

"A dorm founded on the eccentric advisor's spirit of ambition. Students in this dorm all have their own groove and ambitions to be on top."

"Oh sure, make it all about that wrinkly old fossil of a woman, as if she's any greater..."

Requirements and Traits:

For this dorm, I wanted to keep the color palette close to Yzma as possible while also incorporating some designs of Kuzco into the main housewarden fit. (Cuz spoilers, the housewarden is the Kuzco of this dorm)

Khuno Nisqa! (Twisted off Emperor Kuzco)

Future emperor of the sun empire!

Khuno is...a very eccentric kid his whole life. Everything he can ask for is served on a silver platter due to his background of the only remaining royal heir of the Nisqa family after the previous emperor (his late father) of the Sun Empire passed away due to illness. Because of this spoiled lifestyle, he has prided himself of always be in charge of everything and everyone else under his jurisdiction. He is the first ever NRC student to be a housewarden on the first semester, which is freshmen year. He didn't have to do anything or follow a rule, he was simply given the role by flaunting his wealth and status to Crowley. Unlike Kalim, he's very self-absorbed and prideful in his rich and royal status, and would abuse said status to get what he wants. Because, clearly, nobody gets that he will be on top no matter the costs. But it did gain a seething hatred from his second-hand advisor and vice housewarden...

"A bit of a complex way to say it, but yeah, I'm great!...What was that last part?"

Notable Members:

Yves Pocion (Vice Housewarden, Junior) - Khuno's long-time royal advisor for the Nisqa family for years...until Khuno's dismissal of his advisor role to someone new due to the fact he's "passed his prime", causing a deep-seeded hatred for the young heir. (Twisted off Yzma)

Masi Yanuy (Sophomore) - A thick-headed bimbo who is Yves's friend and loyal servant that can always cook up nice meals for any occasion despite his lack of brains. (Twisted off Kronk)

Miyu Donna (Sophomore) - A venomous individual that spites anyone who irritates them in the slightest, but shows a side of interest for Yves's ideas. (Twisted off the llama extract/poison for Kuzco)

"Hah hah, what a cast, amirite?"

Synopsis:

Winter break is almost over (and thankfully another Overblot crisis averted in Scarabia), our main protagonists have stepped into another problem before school officially reopens in spring. Their Ramshackle building is at risk of being turned into a summer home thanks to the spoiled brat of a housewarden of Aztesurco, Khuno Nisqa, and have to do whatever it takes to protect their only accommodation. Meanwhile, the vice housewarden of Aztesurco, Yves Pocion, is plotting in the background to take down the spoiled heir because of his disregard for his years of wasted life with the help of his bumbling friend, Masi Yanuy.

Chaos ensues on both sides of the situation, all because of a simple potion mix-up...

(Occurs between after Book 4 and before Book 5)

As I said before, the plotline for this one is similar to Scarabia's but involves a lot more risks, which is like the perfect parallel.

"Hey, don't just ignore me!"

I definitely did not draw this so i could make a keychain. Nope idk what you're talking about. (I'm 100% gonna draw the whole cast of planes and maybe cars like that and make them into keychains for myself)

I also definitly did not finish this only to realize i fucked up how the top of the suit should lay on her and had to redraw a huge part of it. Nope (Had to make my own refrences using a random hoodie lol)

Anyway now i'm gonna yap about her design because i wanna share it with you all (also because my friend is so done with me talking about planes and cars T^T)

Based on the height chart in The art of Planes she's taller than Dusty and Blade, same height as Windlifter, but shorter than Cabbie

Gave her a bandana cuz it literally looks like a pair of wings (plus she would have more yellow in her casual design, same with earrings which i now realize i forgot to draw)

My thoughts behind her hairstyle are literally "looks cool" plus her hair is brown to stand out against all the yellow on her. The red ombre parts are there cuz they look nice and i'm a sucker for unnatural hair colors

Her eyelashes are circular blobs because she has a lot of smooth egdes on her

I couldn't find any info where she's from (i checked everywhere i think) so made her be from Alaska since it's the only other place we know she's been to

I think freckles look good on her so why the hell not

Gave her a thermal shirt underneath the PPAA shirt. Now this is based solely on my moms experience with working in the cold for a long time (She works in frezzers for 10 hours a day) and she's now cold for most of the time even if it's hot outside. This could be a her only thing tho. I still think it's a neat idea since Dipper worked in Alaska. Plus i based its color on that weird black thing she has on her nose (i'm not that knowlegdeble on planes to know if it has any function feel free to educate me :3 )

Since she's a huge Dusty fan i thought it would be neat for her to have some merch of him. Like posters in her hangar or a necklace with his racing number (Chug made Dusty themed whistles so why not necklaces too?) I also think Dipper would be the type of person to get those not thought out celebrity tatoos

Her suit is just her plane design transformed to fit onto a human. The red stripes on her sleeves are based on the red underside of her wings

And her boots were inspired by typical combat shoes in the colors of her wheels with the touch of adding that stripey pattern onto them

When not on missions she stuff her gloves into her pocket to always have them on her. (This aplies to others as well) This is based on my parents since they were firefighters for like 15 years so i have a lot of personal headcanons about the whole team based on their experiences (i'm probably gonna write some fanfics based on some of their stories)

Fun fact in Poland we have two different units of firefighters. There's PSP - Państwowa Straż Pożarna - National Firefighters which are most often than not in big city's like Warsaw for example and then there's OSP - Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna - Volunteer Firefighters which are mostly in small towns or villages that consist of (like the name suggest) volunteers. My parents were in OSP because we lived a really small town. PSP still arives to every major accident but because of where they are often stationed OSP are faster in response time in those small towns. Idk why im writting this, i just thought it was neat fact

TIME FOR THE LONG ASS 2024 REVIEW

i am once again gonna review each highlighted piece i have made in 2024 so far like last year even though it's sort of unnecessary i have a bit to commit to

JANUARY

jan's piece is my smash poster celebrating the 25TH anniversary! this after i got rlly into making giant multi-character ensemble pieces, and i've wanted to do a poster like this to celebrate smash, so i'm glad i was able to step up to plate. usually i think my art from january ages pretty bad in these reviews, but i actually still like it from the composition, colors, and the drawings of the characters. i still have the print of it hanging in my room! ^o^ other highlights from the month is the complimentary poster i did with smash ultimate's dlc cast... well i kinda mention that out of obligation because i actually do think this one aged like ass, mainly the shading on the characters looking pretty bad (especially as a print). i think i shoulda saved this idea for later in the year to time it with smash ultimate's release day of december 7 (i am extremely deadline-pilled) but i probably wouldn't have cared by then so i just did it like, immediately after the 64 poster. so it probably smacks of burnout + i can't shade with blue that well

FEBRUARY

this one sorta represents seven whole drawings i did for one series. it's my seven piece set of artworks based on mothy's evillious chronicles, and i chose rilliane's because i think at the time i was putting this together i thought she came out the best (i began assembling this starting april 2024 lol), but idk! i still think she's pretty solid but i think she's tied up with kayo and banica. one thing's for sure, i know sateriasis is my least favorite of the bunch by a wide ass margin, i really wish i executed it better! not much other interesting highlights for this month besides my other vocaloid art series, the alice of human sacrifice ace cards. i think they aged alright but again this is another idea that i wanna execute better in the future.

MARCH

oh boy another series!!! this was part of my four part series redrawing the crossed paths artwork from octopath traveler ii. i chose the one featuring partitio and osvald because it was my favorite at the time. i still think it aged pretty nicely but it has some rendering hiccups that rlly bother me but in terms of colors/the background i still like it. if i had to pick a new favorite, it might go to throné and tenemos or cassti and ochette. another notable highlight of this year was a piece of oc art i made. i need to do something unabashedly overdramatic and angsty with my ocs again cuz i still like this one too. i think i opted out of selecting this one to highlight since cropping a face was kinda awkward lol.

APRIL

an overdramatic oc art has been highlighted! another one i like (it's almost like i picked my best for this chart). it was sorta the origin of me using my favorite watercolor brush in procreate to have an extremely rough idea of the colors that naturally blend together, creating a pretty cohesive palette when i render it (which is the current basis for how i render in my current style). april otherwise is kinda boring idk i don't like a lot of the other drawings here lol. this utsu-p album redraw ft robin is still pretty cool tho imo.

MAY

i feel like i had some nice variety to pick from, but i chose my improvisational and edgy grima drawing since i think stylistically it stands out the most. i found my new favorite sketching/doodling pencil brush in procreate and made a whole drawing using it, and the texture is so niiiice. other highlights: COOL OC ART (ft kandy). part of me feels like it's kinda corny but i was born on da cob so whatever, this one was fun and i still like it!!! there was also my art based on bad end night. i'm a tiny bit mixed on the rendering/colors, idk i was experimenting with a different brush for lining and shading and the slight difference in texture makes it a little weird but that is shit that only matters to me. i think it's a hell of a lot better than the bad end night drawing i made back in 2022, so in terms of "redemption" i think it was successful.

JUNE

kind of a boring month tbh, i got miitopia-pilled again so i was probably busy playing that this month + i was home for the summer and i am extremely lazy when i am at home lol. but to compliment the dive back in my miitopia era i made a sorta sketchy drawing with kandy as my great sage. check it, it's another with my new pencil brush, and i definitely remember having fun with this one (though her robe physics kinda make no sense based on how i drew her ref, i never look at my refs for my ocs/i usually break their designs to fit certain poses silhouettes 💀💀💀). uh i guess the one other interesting piece (imo) from this month was my giant miitopia poster that i was too chicken shit to share proper until recently (if you missed the edit where you can fully see it, there ya go). it's kinda oversaturated vomit and i'm not crazy proud of the execution but it was ambitious and kandy's section still looks really good imo so it has value in that regard to me.

JULY

i participated in my first artfight this july! i drew many cool ocs. by about the halfway mark i got hella burnt out tho and started doing my own stuff to freshen things up (it was also around here when galasynth entered production and i met MANY AMAZING VOCALOID ARTISTS!!! SHOUTOUT TO THOSE MUTUALS :)))))). for this month i chose my poster based on touhou eosd since i think this might be the most gracefully aged piece the whole year (it's probably my favorite!!). the colors just came out real nice.... idk!! a notable piece from this month that couldn't be posted in july cuz of zine nda's was my actual galasynth piece. this was a pretty significant piece since it permanently altered my current rendering/coloring workflow (sorta established in the highlighted piece in april but now with lineart and with a differently textured brush). the touhou poster was created shortly after as a response to this new workflow! other one of note was my perfect cherry blossom poster

AUGUST

brave frobin's design for feh was revealed and i drew it 😼😼😼 (AND I CALLED IT earlier this month. not that i needed to use a lotta braincells but). this was a further step in practicing my new rendering style and see how detailed and meticulous i could get with the colors when i had ONE character to focus on with NO background and i think it was pretty successful. though im glad i posted the wip cuz the colors were probably better there than the rendered... what overthinking does to a mf. another banger from this month was a piece of oc art, it's nothing special but it was a rendered panel redraw of an unpublished comic i made of them and i liked it so yeah. (i also posted my decora una drawing this month which was my scrapped concept for galasynth, but according to my notes it was actually finished in july... but shoutouts to it regardless)

SEPTEMBER

aaaagh this month didn't have much goin on, probably cuz i went back to school around here and the work was getting crazy 💀💀 but i still found time to make something i'm proud of! i drew my oc based on a twitter prompt a mutual of mine shared and i reeeaaally still like it!! especially the details on the corals waow... (i don't really have much else from this month that i consider noteworthy enough to mention here so :P)

OCTOBER

spooky art!!!!! i didn't have much interesting going on this month because again i got very academically demanded of and didn't have much time to draw, BUT i vowed to make a tribute piece to "trick&treat" by oster project for halloween, so i hauled ass to get something ready for that and to have ONE traditional drawing this year (yeah i didn't draw a lot on paper this year unfortunately ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️). other highlights: a traditional drawing of gekiyaku pills for vsynthtober which i did a whole two prompts of (you just saw all of them) + a digital drawing of geki (i really started to like gekiyaku around this time). as much as i still like the latter's colors and texture it sorta started a bad trend where i sorta just drew characters from the shoulders up with not much pose to speak of + no interesting background just for the sake of coloring it. not that it's completely devoid of value but it was a pattern i was starting to get a little to comfortable with. i'll touch more on this in the closing thoughts section, but this new rendering style did sorta hinder my want to experiment with my digital rendering styles compared to previous years where i prided myself on having a bunch.

NOVEMBER

BOTH of my favorite pieces from this month fall in the same trap as the thing i mentioned above. i picked my drawing of hibiki koto for the chart since the pastels added a nice value shakeup. i STILL LIKE IT, it's nice, but did perpetuate this bad habit/shortcut. the other one was my drawing of great sage kandy (current pfp!). the colors here are pretty fuckin nice still imo, so as a coloring tech demo like this flavor of drawing i was doing i think it succeeded.

DECEMBER

AND FINALLY, the end of the year. i finished my december piece early in the year kinda just to check the box off and get this chart off my back (a totally normal thing people do when drawing art throughout the year). i have wanted to do a legacy of lunatic kingdom poster like my eosd one for a while after falling in love with its ost, but it just felt scary. the characters were very detailed and also there were moreeee 😭😭😭 but i got myself to do it cuz i found myself tempted to fall in the same trap as described in october/november (i was gonna draw koishi with the same crop/thought for the bg/emphasis on rendering. you might see her done by the end of the year), but i was like "NO, i must earn this laziness" and finally did something ambitious again. and yeah, i think i did pretty good with this one, even if the crowding of characters and details is sorta unruly.

ok so maybe i'm a little artistically constipated rn

doing this thorough review has sorta gotten me worried. i talked about this in my review last year, but i wondered if my progress has plateaued since i liked a lot of my art throughout the year and didn't see much significant improvement. but looking back no i definitely improved from 2023, and i'd say i broke some new ground with experiments i did throughout the year (the piece from december is still my banner!!). i also had a few different digital rendering styles i played around with for some variety.

this year, after the completion of my galasynth piece, i got really stuck in a specific rendering style and didn't rlly experiment that much with shaking it up. i also didn't feel compelled to try doing solid lineart or rough paintings, and i got stuck in a "halfbody with basic poses and backgrounds" pit when i know i can do better and more cool if i just TRIED.

i am writing this pretty early in december so hopefully i can bring something new to the table..... idk, maybe the differences in my digital coloring styles are only visible to me, but i certainly notice this repetition and wanna break out of my current bubble! i am working on a collab piece that should go live by spring next year that will hopefully do this :) (and i certainly won't be abandoning my current style, at least not overnight/without trying to evolve it, cuz i really like it and have received many kind compliments from people about it! so thank you thank you!!!!)

i look back at some of my pieces from last year and earlier this year and see some variety in how i go about rendering or textures or colors and wanna go back to that. so that'll be my goal for the rest of december + 2025!!!!! ^_^

anyway that's that, it was a good year despite my current crisis, i think i made some good art. also don't be like me and feel obligated to make nice art every month for an aesthetic chart, i do it cuz i draw fast and i am easily satisfied by them. take breaks touch grass drink water, play and draw. yay!

Making friends is hard. They say to be yourself, but when your misdeeds are stronger than your good-natured self, it’s hard to convince them otherwise. Can we be given a second chance and start anew? Or are we to forever be reminded of our past sins and thus be considered unworthy of friendship and face the consequences of our actions and be cast out into the cold harsh world alone, miserable and guilt ridden. That’s just sad. Especially to someone as sensitive as a certain little puppy miraculous holder here. Can she be given a second chance?

*Daddycop-You guys remember back in “Ephemeral” where everything was all 💯th central! Cuz it was the 💯th episode and they were really milkin’ it for all it’s worth a number of times? Weeellll, it’s happening again! Marinette goes nuts trying to celebrate her big 💯th kiss with Adrien all in the comfort of her own home. From buying the food, to taping his measurements and even decking out the balcony for it. Hell! She even went as far as planning a fireworks display from her teacher turned mayor with the fire department and looking into the stars conjunction for good luck to be all perfect! Yeah, we get it, she’s 10 steps ahead of everything! It all sounds nice until she realizes she forgot it was also planned on the same day as her girl squads monthly movie night! At her house too! Whomp! Whomp! Whhhhomp! No problem! In classic sitcom fashion, she can have both events and everyone will be happy…….but Adrien said no!💔Hold up there folks!✋He said it in the most gentlemanly way possible cuz he knows it’s important for Marinette to have some “girl time”. Too bad it didn’t get through her thick head and she was still insistent he comes (face palms). She even attempted to tell the girl squad if it’ll be okay. Marinette, if Adrien thought it was uncomfortable for him to be there on “girls night”, what makes you think the squad won’t be uncomfortable for them to be there on “date night”?

Meanwhile, former henchgirl, Sabrina Raincomprix, is free from her “not-so-much” best friend Chloe Bourgeois, but is still miserable cuz she still has no friends😢 What? Did you think all was well after she got the Dog Miraculous and everyone was cool with it as Team Miraculous? THEY DON��T KNOW ONE ANOTHER’S IDENTITIES! *cough*mostofem*cough*. She’s awfully lonely and wishes to make friends with others like the girl squad, but she knows damn well they’ll never accept her due to her past actions with Chloe tormenting most of the girls (which I can list, but will not cuz it’s a lot! It’s been 5 seasons people!). Luckily, Zoe steps in to help by inviting her to movie night and despite the other girls justified reasons for rejecting her, Zoe points out how it was her that helped Marinettte put a stop to Chloe’s (and Lila’s) treachery (“Confrontation”). Still, they say to ask Marinette since it’s her house they’re having movie night at. Zoe tells Marinette about Sabrina being okay to come and fixated on her big 💯th kiss, Marinette wasn’t really paying attention and just hurriedly says, “Yes” and then brings up an “unexpected guest” to join the squad making them misunderstand it. Oh crap!

So the big “💯th Kiss/Girls Movie Night” is on and the only one missing is the “unexpected guest”. No one is the wiser and then, *Ding Dong*. They’re here! The surprise guest of honor themselves! (drum roll🥁) It’s Sabrina! (trumpets sound and than die out) Marinette is dumbfounded at finding her at the door and not Adrien and then laments how this whole night is now a total complete disaster while being oblivious to poor Sabrina being heartbroken that she wasn’t officially invited and leaves. She tearfully calls her father, Lieutenant Roger, to pick her up and being the overly righteous policeman that he is, drives like crazy to his precious little baby girl. Up until this point, Sabrina was putting up a smile and saying that she’s fine and has friends which Roger bought (and never knew how mistreated she was with Chloe), but now the truth comes out and he goes all Papa Wolf. Unfortunately, this was when Chrysalis shows up (after failing with Sabrina. Bravo to her (Sabrina) there!👏👏👏Looks like Alya was right about Team Miraculous members not falling for that old scheme (“Illustrhater”)) and transforms Roger into Daddycop! (wheezes) Daddycop!? WTF!? See! This is what happens when you let your victims choose their own name! Though to be fair, some of the names Hawk Moth/Shadow Moth/Monarch gave out were pretty stupid. Though I get it, he’s in overprotective dad mode right now. Regardless, his look was a more upgraded version of his Rogercop form as it was more menacing and his new power was shooting people with his lasers turning them into brainwashed zombies that creepingly adored Sabrina much to her horror. Oh! And his cop car was a hoverboard too! As chilling as his new villain look/power was, what I was upset about was that they took away his robotic voice! Not cool! :P. I miss that evil robot laugh now.

Really? We’re already on the 💯th kiss!? Selectively speaking, this was only as Adrienette for their 💯th kiss (cuz our main duo has kissed plenty of many a times!) as a couple! The 1️⃣st time they kissed was in “Revolution” with their tearful goodbye, the 2️⃣nd time was in “The Final Day Part 2:Re-creation” when Marinette woke up Adrien and the 3️⃣rd time was the same ep where it was all calm and easy. Then their 4️⃣th time was in “Climatiqueen” with Marinettes text reply live. So from the aftermath of the Season 5 finale and before this ep, Adrienette must’ve kissed each other “Hello”/“Good-bye”/“Good Morning”/“Good-Night” a lot to get to their 💯th kiss! Wow! I loved how Adrien was being such an understanding boyfriend by not wanting to interfere with his girlfriend’s girls only movie night. Now if only Marinette was more appreciative of that! I mean, yeah, I get it, she put a lot of work into what was supposed to be their special night (although she was the only one making a big deal about it cuz Adrien is more humble), but also, she didn’t want to disappoint her gal pals either on what was their usual uninterrupted social gathering. She tried to salvage it by combining the two, but only Adrien saw that it wouldn’t be as special. To be fair, the girls came first, but she was too prioritized with her selfish wants and needs to realize that (sigh). This is what also made her quickly agree on inviting that “unexpected guest” assuming it’s Adrien and not Sabrina. She is getting worse! I was afraid of this. She may of learned her lesson on spending more time with her friends and not being all over-the-top on rendezvous’s, but we still have more episodes where her actions are questioned (puts on sunglasses) and that’s when I’ll be there to pass judgement. Sabrina misses Chloe, who only now exists on social media and is “happy” in London, even if that “friendship” was toxic, she did care about her. She was doing herself some good by removing everything “Chloe” related and wanted to start fresh on a clean slate. Easier said than done cuz she left a trail of pain and suffering on her classmates and knew she wouldn’t be easily forgiven. Poor thing was so upset, she wanted to give back her Dog Miraculous thinking she was that unworthy (she called Team Miraculous “Miraculars”!🥲). Yes, she willingly did Chloe’s bidding, but she hated it deep down and only went with it to maintain her friendship. Which she now realized was one-sided. Thankfully, she made a heartfelt apology and was happily accepted. Welcome to the squad, Sabrina Raincomprix! Zoe understood what it was like to be a former “bully” and redeem like from her old school in New York she mentioned to Marinette (“Sole Crusher”), so she knew how to handle this, but what else happened in New York that she’s not telling us? That Prince Charming knock-off from her old school, Ray, has the dirt on her on that. Who is Zoe Lee really?

It really does feel like the writers just kind of dont care about the world. When i first saw it, i was really interested in just how wild it was, a whole world based of hieronymous bosch? Cool.

But then they just contradict themselves, dont do anything with it or it just doesnt make sense? for example:

-In the first season the world is presented as this brutal, hostile place, where walking down the street can get you killed. Characters dont know what hugging or shaking hands is. The schools are brutal, teachers being downright vile at points. In season 2 they have a whole school dedicated to darwinian logic. But... later the teachers are suddenly nice, the world feels less hostile and they have therapists? what? in a place where you get thrown in prison for writing fanfiction?

-Some jokes are made that are 'haha get it cuz not human' but they make no sense. They have bard magic, walking guitars and bands, but when they have to look after luz, they suddenly think nightmare noises are a banger? Or how willow makes a '40s cartoon' joke, gus has a pb&j samwich, etc.

-Potion magic makes no sense. How is it a coven when you can do it WITHOUT magic. what happens when you get branded? do you just lose all magic? is it a pity coven for bad witches?

I feel on its own these things are nitpicky, but when they pile up it just feels like they were only thinking about making the place LOOK cool while having zero substance.

So you're correct that a lot of these are either nitpicks or just really lazy jokes on the part of the writers. In fact, the lazy, fish out of water jokes came back in S3 and make Amity just look like falling in love literally drained her brain out of her ears. However, that doesn't make them invalid, especially in a show with little worldbuilding. They pile up into making the whole thing feel like a construct.

Luckily, you don't have to go to nitpicks to point out that the writers didn't give a shit. Dana herself is one of the worst writers as far the worldbuilding goes. After all, she wrote Reaching Out.

She was the one who treated being a Wild Witch like choosing not to go to college.

She also co-wrote The First Day where, you know, they don't even acknowledge that multi-tracking is explicitly illegal in this society so why would an EC funded school EVER allow that?

There's SO MANY of these sorts of things peppered throughout the series that makes the ONE part of the world building we ever get, that is anything close to making this world actually unique besides implications, a straight up lie. It'd be like if Avatar made being able to multi-bend something you chose seven episodes in and suddenly slaughtered the entire point of the Avatar being special. It doesn't though because WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!?

And there's no way to call this a nitpick. It's the hard basis for one of the main cast, even though Eda's status as a criminal is ALL OVER THE PLACE in S1, especially for people giving a shit about it. It's effectively the core of the villain's plot and the society they created. Any crack in the coven system becomes a crack in your main plot... And when it was first introduced, rather than nine, their were hundred, a fact that persisted into S2 when a character VOICED BY DANA talked about joining the Cute Cat Coven. You know, a coven theoretically not affected by the draining spell.

It's even important thematically. It is the oppression that Luz is supposed to fighting against. The way that self expression and being true to you is repressed is through the coven system and the laws surrounding it. Those need to actually function for those themes to feel like they have weight or they fall apart. It's part of why TOH struggles with thematic consistency because self expression doesn't feel like a core part of it when no one gives a fuck what you do. When there is no actual pressure to conform and hide yourself. At least, not for a story like this.

It's probably the biggest reason why when I hear people exclaim that TOH has great worldbuilding I just have to look at them funny. After all, none of this is even new or actually unique *gestures at Dystopian Fiction in general and D&D wizards school of magic* and it's told like shit. And for a story like this, your fantasy epic about sticking it to the man by showing how special you are, it NEEDED to be told better. It needed to have point.

But it never did and it just makes the writers look either like they didn't care or are just incompetent, let alone when the show director themselves is shooting their core concepts in the head.

YAAAAY this is such a good question !!!!!! honestly as an ensemble cast i feel like class of 3000 overall balances itself and its cast interactions out pretty well (lil d, eddie, and philly phil maybe get some more extra centric episodes in my opinion though. granted it makes sense for lil d since there was an interview where andre said that the character was supposed to in some way kind of be based off him as a kid/his experiences in school)

pretty much tamika and anybody else. being fully transparent, this is bias cuz tamika is arguably one of my faves of the show and while she does actually get moments to shine i feel like shes just a liiiittle underutilized. when they start using her to set up gags about eddie being clearly infatuated with her instead of that being more of a consistent background detail it starts really negatively effecting the writing of both characters imo. she and madison have some charming bits and that episode where theyre paired up together but i would have also loved to see more of a dynamic between her and kim !! kim's very artistic and expressive and wants to be something of a trendsetter but is obviously (for very reasonable 12 year old reasons, i think) invested in still being apart of the "in" crowd and other people's perception of her, and i think that mirror's tamika's whole thing of being cool and tough but being afraid that that image might be compromised if she lets more of her softer side come through (her collecting dolls, baking cookies with her goofball dad, and actually really enjoying very mushy displays of affection for example) rather nicely ! plus their instruments (turn tables, misc percussive instruments and the harp) would go nicely together imo

I ALSO THINK tamkia and lil d would be fun to explore !!!!!! they kind of start off strong in the beginning of the first season but theres less of it as the show goes on which is a shame ! its funny to watch them squabble almost like siblings but its very clear that they still like and care about each other-- i mean in one episode where tamika goes to hang out with some other girls lil d laments that he misses her threatening him and when she shoves him he exclaims "we missed you tamika !!!" very earnestly !!! it would be nice to explore tamika's side of that yknow !!!

maybe the writers thought philly phil and madison were too similar since theyre both kind of eccentric goofballs to have them paired up more often but i think they could play off each other really nicely ! after all madison is supposed to be more of a ditzy but friendly hippie type and philly phil's mostly just socially inept and kind of clumsy, i think you could find a lot of comedy potential balancing that

i also think philly phil and kam could have gotten more screen time as a duo, seeing as they have the whole geek and nerd dichotomy going on. kam is more of a skeptic whereas philly phil seems to be more willing to believe in things like aliens and santa claus and unicorns even though hes a "man of science", i think it was a real missed opportunity to not have him and kam maybe get into friendly arguments about it or something, or maybe realize they have converging interests (like kam's belief/enthusiasm for bigfoot)

i like lil d and eddie's friendship ! it read to me like eddie was the closest to lil d out of everyone in the group, and i say that even without taking "eddie's money" into consideration (even though thats a great showcase i feel like as to what im talking about !) like everytime lil d needs to pay for something and hes just like "its whatever eddie's got it" eddie just does with very little to no complaint, idk !!! i just like em. plus i think they illustrate again some of the stuff andre was talking about in his goal of exploring the culture of atlanta and his own experiences there since lil d and eddie come from bankhead and buckhead respectively, and him (andre 3000 i mean) mentioning that he went to school on the other side of town with a whole bunch of ppl including the mayor's kids lol

i just love sunny's little individual mentor moments with the kids in general !!!!!! obviously he and lil d are big one and kind of the show's highlight for obvious reasons, but i also really love the one on one moments he gets with kim, which happen way more often than i initially expected !!! i would have loved to see him sort of guide and mentor again tamika a bit more too again to possibly help her reconcile both elements of her identity as both a no-nonsense butt-kicker and somebody with more "childish" or "girly" interests. and also him and philly phil, just because i think. it would be zany. and good for hijinks.

Okay I’m gonna go on a big long rant about why Huntlow pisses me off so much. Honestly, Mod Willow, you don’t even have to post this if you don’t want to cuz I don’t wanna start more discourse, I just need to vent. Please note this is gonna be pretty messy just cuz I have a lot to say.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I DO NOT SEE THE APPEAL OF THIS SHIP!! They have no chemistry on screen. It feels like watching two people be nice to each other out of politeness rather than out of actually enjoying the others company. It’s especially noticeably because Willow is naturally super affectionate/friendly, but all her interactions with Hunter feel super forced.

And don’t even get me started on the shippers. Too many of the shippers act like just cuz it’s canon, it means you HAVE to like it. When are people gonna learn that just because something is canon, doesn’t mean it’s good or well written?? The fan content might honestly be the worst part of it. 70% of Huntlow shippers, from what I’ve seen, don’t care about Willow at all. They just turn her into Hunter’s therapist or boil her down to “buff girlfriend” and it’s infuriating. It’s like they black out whenever Hunter isn’t on screen. And they even get him wrong too. So much Huntlow stuff turns Hunter is a “poor twaumatized wittle baby 🥺” and infantalize him, even though he is one of the strongest main characters there!! Yes, he is traumatized. But trauma doesn’t turn you into a helpless infant. There’s so much you could do to explore that in an interesting way, but I guess that’s too much work so let’s just infantilize him!!!!!

And the writing for it is a mess. “Of course it’s gonna be rushed/messy, the shortened season-“ THAT MAKES IT WORSE!!! They knew they had extremely limited time to finish the season, and they still wasted time on this stupid ship. The whole plot comes to a screeching halt just so they can focus on Hunter and Willow standing next to each other. For the Future is the worst example of this. That scene where Willow has her breakdown is awful and the writers should be embarrassed of it. Hunter is the worst person in the main cast to comfort her there. Literally anyone else would’ve been better. It could’ve been Amity, to finally give closure to their relationship and show that they’ve fully moved on from Amity’s past behavior (especially since Amity was one of the main people to make Willow feel like she was half-a-witch), or Gus, who also has magic-related breakdowns and was taught a coping mechanism for the BY WILLOW!! Or Luz, to show that, yes, they are indeed still friends, because I honestly forgot they were supposed to be best friends by then. They’ve had so few direct interactions for the past season and a half, it felt like they were strangers. But nooooo, it HAD to be Hunter. They literally had to keep Gus back with giant vines to keep it a huntlow moment (which is just another example of how Gus has been screwed by this series). Also, Hunter experienced one of the most horrific things to ever happen to him and lost his first friend mere hours ago, why are we already trying to push him into a relationship?? I’m not saying that traumatized people can’t be in relationships, that’s stupid. But I am saying that he needs some time to actually process what’s happened before immediately getting out into romantic scenes again. It just feels really gross.

The ship also just completely uprooted any and all of Willow’s development. Anytime she has a major moment in the series now HAS to be related to Hunter. It turned her from a character with a lot of cool potential development that seemed to actually be getting explored in season 2, into just Hunter’s Girlfriend. And I know this is a problem with Willow specifically because Hunter gets plenty of outstanding moments outside of this ship after it begins to be established. It feels like they didn’t know what else to do with her, so they just attached her to the closest male character.

And it’s just so amanormative/heteronormative. Note, this is not me calling it a straight ship, because it’s not. I know Willow is pan and Hunter is bi. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be heteronormative. Seriously, any and all moments of them even standing next to each other were taken by the fandom as “proof” it was gonna be canon. As I said before, Willow is super affectionate naturally. She loves her friends and isn’t afraid to show it. But when she does basic friend things with Hunter? They’re in love!! It’s obvious!! /sarc

Willow saves hunter from a deadly 200ft drop? True love. Willow doesn’t want to pummel hunter (or who she thinks is Hunter) to death with a giant vine? I hear wedding bells! Willow is distraught at the fact that her friend just tried to drown himself in a lake and is sad that he’s slowly dying? Could they be anymore obvious with how it’s canon?! Ignore the fact that literally everyone else there is also sad, it’s a huntlow moment!! And that hand holding scene in FTF…… literally so cringe inducing. Willow was holding hands with and celebrating with Amity five seconds ago, but now that she’s slightly touching Hunter’s hand? Canon! Undeniably canon! I can’t believe that made the cut into the final episode. It felt like watching a shitty fanfic written by a ten year old. They wasted precious time that could’ve been used to further the plot of the actual show.

I hate that you can’t go three feet into the owl house tag without seeing it, even if you block ten million tags relating to it. I’ve got ten different huntlow tags blocked and I still see it whenever I go into the tags. It’s infuriating. Just because it’s canon, doesn’t mean you don’t have to tag it anymore.

And back to the shippers, why do some of them just start throwing a tantrum every time they find out you don’t ship it? I’ve criticized the ship a little bit on my blog. Every time I do, I make sure to tag it so huntlow shippers specifically can avoid my posts, and encourage them to block me so they never have to see me ever again. And even with all that, anytime I criticize the ship even a little bit, I get an onslaught of huntlow shippers crying in my inbox/notes about how I’m missing the point, or just don’t get it, or how I should just block the tag. I do block the tag!! That is the first thing I did when I saw the ship was getting more popular!! Why don’t they take their own advice and block me? And they’re so condescending about it too. You don’t see me going onto anti-lumity or anti-raeda blogs and telling them how it’s their fault I disagree with them. Honestly, grow up.

It’s actually been a wild week:

I have midterms coming up

I was so so sick and im better now but the coughing is driving me absolutely crazy

I have more songs I need to perform in my musical theater class but again: sick

There was a new building being opened up on campus which is SO nice but it made the whole campus so busy

I had a ton of projects and essays LAST week but the residual stress and anxiety is making me really exhausted but simultaneously unable to actually go to bed and I’ve been super socially drained for like. Eight days straight

I’ve been creatively stumped which makes me feel sucky

I’ve been wanting to read all the fic updates that are piling up (Project Killcode YAYYY) (I did see your other asks but again. Socially exhausted which translates to online (obv because I’ve been nonexistent 😂) and somehow translates to fic reading?? I dunno. Just like… not enough energy to do anything but scroll insta or Pinterest which sucks because it’s quick hit dopamine that doesn’t last and is draining

past all that lame news is COOL NEWS which is that I’m in the auditioning process for a student led Christmas musical FILM (film is cool I’ve never done film just stage) and it’s suchhhh a good concept and I’m so desperately in need of being involved and AGAHHSISJSSK

Anyway do for that I’ve been called back for two roles and did the last round of readings/auditions just today!! I don’t really know if I’ll get them cuz… well. I dunno. But they did go well and I’ll likely be an extra/ensemble if I’m not cast which I’d also loooove to do! So anyway. That’s where I’ve been, and I miss you and everyone so much and I apologize for disappearing out of thin air 😂

Honestly we dunno why we didn't expect anyone to see that magic item post (probably cuz we were just making it to have an easy thing to link the DM (though they link adding and color coding was super nice too tbh)). But like, figure we should give *some* kinda insight into our designing of things.

First, we wanted to fix up a few issues we'd had with Ranger, particularly around Hunter's Mark (we know 2024 provided some HM buffs but like... not a lot and we aren't planning to go 20 Ranger lmao). And also make sure to keep in with how the Ronin subclass from Ryoko's works particularly with its damage boost on weapon draw

Then there were some class fix up things we wanted to do with Echo Knight. EK hasn't actually been updated to the 2024 rules, so if they buff it when they get to it, awesome, but right now we only have 5e. Anyways! Unleash Incarnation is *incredibly* useful but you get like, maximum 5 uses, and only get them back on a long rest, ergo the short rest boost. And Unleash Incarnation also... specifies it has to be a melee attack with your echo... and we get that giving your Echo a ranged weapon would be a little powerful, but fuck it, we did it anyways (with some minor limitations)

We also wanted to accurately translate how our partner's horn magic worked, it's both a defensive and offensive tool, so as an extension of that, we gave it two very good defensive spells, and the whole weapon creation thing, and *eventually* an alternate version of Steel Wind Strike (one of the coolest Ranger spells that going only 15 in Ranger wouldn't allow us to get normally). And in general we wanted the buffs these things provided to grow too, so we, made sure we got more uses out of the defensive spells as we leveled up, and that the weapons got stronger as we leveled up too. As Koeia levels and learns and gets stronger, they learn how to more effectively use the magic their master's horn gives them and as such the magic gets stronger too.

Additionally, while we'd be getting Rage from going part Barbarian eventually, that'd cut out all spell use, including Hunter's Mark... so we wanted something that

Allowed them to still cast/concentrate on Hunter's Mark while

Entering a Rage-like state and getting some buffs and

Gave us an excuse to let them have the chimera horns X3

It has a different activation condition than Rage, being only when you're at 1/2 hp or when you get a crit, so you can't just go into it right off the bat. It is instead a tool used to turn around a bad situation (1/2 hp) or to push an advantageous one (landing a crit). And then we made it work with Barbarian Rage because we're really only gonna be using BA as a last resort type thing anyways :p

We also stole part of the first and last levels upgrades from, well a horny dnd handbook lmao XD the taking the Help action as a bonus action thing, and the 3 charges for Blink/Teleport thing, as WELL as the "when you're praised, get horny" curse all came from there. Because... they're all accurate to Koeia as a person. Koeia would absolutely be fast to help someone with something they're good at. And we'd been playing around with the idea that (anthro) Koeia could teleport for a little while. And yes, Koeia has a praise kink.

Overall this was an incredibly long winded way of saying that, our main goal was to provide some useful buffs and cool abilities while also taking into account and staying in line with who Koeia is as person. And we like to think we did that pretty well.
