[Fabric] Data Activator - Triggers y alerta instantánea

fish-out-of-water character in science fiction to whom humanity is deeply alien, but who does not continually get themselves into awkward social situations because they looked up Human Ettiquette For Dummies, they learned about basic human social dynamics including how humans bond socially, and it is immediately obvious to them after five second of introspection how a highly social tool-using species like humans would benefit from spending a lot of time building social ties

refining my book Murderbot design! Obviously, it needs lots of pockets in its line of work, and plenty more screentime. I think this would be early mb, first and second book as it starts to find the ways it feels most comfortable. I also feel like a tiny, scruffy ponytail for when its hair starts to grow out is just a necessity. It's a busy secunit-- it doesn't have time to deal with that mullet!
I tried to include the tech aspects in a few spots, like the arm that it removes in one of the later books and reattaches, built in earrings for its feed, and some facial joining points. All its feeds face towards itself-- but a career in printmaking has prepared me for writing all the backwards text!
No justification for the blue hair, it just felt right (: Anyone else headcannon mb with a non-natural hair colour or other specific elements?

Data winking at Picard and scanning him w his eyes. last gif is a slowed down version so u can more easily see it
#my stuff#Data#Picard#Data Soong#Data star trek#Data tng#Jean-Luc Picard#Jean Luc Picard#Picard tng#star trek tng#sttng#st tng#datacard#im not saying i ship them bc im just so aspec and they obviously have like a kind of familial vibe but im not gonna lie this activates#something in me#particularly in combination with how Picard ended this conversation by saying Datas resourcefulness never ceases to amaze him#its a pretty mundane scene but i just think its neat yknow. marge.jpg#my gifs#star trek gifs#Data unloads so much information at once and then hes like “There's more.” and Picard is like oh?#yknow........#also im pretty sure Brent probably didnt mean to wink right. like its just. an artifact of being human sometimes i know how it is and it#would be hard to make sense of in this scene anyway but god i just think its so fun to think about#why in the world Data might be having this kind of twitch while talking to Picard#hes putting a lot of effort into this mission !! hes reporting to daddy...................................... sorry but like....... come on#like LOOK ..........what is all that.. his face is so serious hes like being so dutiful but i think hes also like happy to be helping#as always but it comes thru in this scene. in a way i dont always notice in others#the real reason it got my attention was bc of what Picard said at the end and his vibe too like he was listening so attentively and#patiently and he had this vibe of gratitude and almost a deference#tbh i imagine its bc he knows Data Follows Procedure so he doesnt feel the need to put on the Captain act so much

I think it's interesting that - in order to make his "free-thinking Jedi" characters hold any semblance of rationality in their arguments - Dave Filoni needs to resort to artificially dehumanizing the other Jedi and painting them all with the same "we dogmatically worship protocol" brush.
He does this with Huyang in the recent Ahsoka episode.
Tumblr media
"Lolz he's so narrow-minded, preachy and by-the-book, unable to think outside the box, just like the Jedi in the Prequels."
My first reaction was being amused at the fact that Filoni had to resort to making the Jedi Order's ideals and rules be embodied by a literal machine for his anti-Jedi headcanon to start making sense.
But then I remembered: Huyang isn't just any droid.
In The Clone Wars, he had a sassy personality, he had a pep in his step, he had a sense of humor...
Tumblr media
This character was human in his behavior, he was fun and whimsical.
But now he's been reduced to, I dunno, "Jedi C-3PO"? Basically?
Tumblr media
"Ha! He's blunt and unsympathetic because he's a droid, but it's funny because the Jedi were the same, they were training themselves to be tactless, emotionless droids."
And Filoni does this with Mace Windu too, in Tales of the Jedi.
Mace, who brought a lightsaber to the throat of a planetary leader to defend the endangered Zillo Beast...
Tumblr media
... and who went waaay past his mandate by mischievously sneaking around Bardottan authorities and breaking into the Queen's quarters because he felt something bad was afoot...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... was reduced to being an almost droid-like, rule-parotting, protocol purist who sticks to his instructions (and is implied to be willing to let a murder go unsolved so he can get a promotion).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mentioned this at the end of my first post on Luke in The Last Jedi... while changes in personality do happen overtime and can be explained in-universe... if you don't show us that progression and evolution and just leave us without that context, that'll break the suspension of disbelief, for your audience.
Here, we have two characters with a different (almost caricatural) personality than the one they were originally shown to have.
Tumblr media
Now... we could resort to headcanons, to make it all fit together.
We could justify Huyang's tone shift 'cause "Order 66 changed him". And we could make explanations about TotJ's Mace:
Being younger and thus more ambitious and a stickler for the rules, and only really becoming more flexible after getting his seat on the Council and gaining more maturity.
Being such a teacher's pet in the episode because we're seeing him through the eyes of a notorious unreliable narrator, Dooku.
There'd be nothing wrong with opting to go with either of those headcanons to cope with this. After all, Star Wars is meant to help you get creative.
But the problem I encounter is that:
Filoni has an anti-Jedi bias, so the above headcanons clearly wouldn't really track with his intended narrative.
We'd be jumping through hoops to extrapolate and fill in what is, essentially, inconsistent characterization, manufactured to make Ahsoka and Dooku shine under a better light.
And that sours whatever headcanon I come up with.
Edit: Also, yeah, as folks have been saying in the tags... wtf is "Jedi protocol"? The term isn't ever mentioned in the movies, I skimmed through dialog transcripts of TCW, never saw it there.
So it's almost as if - if Filoni wasn't draining characters like Mace and Huyang of all humanity and nuance - his point about "the Jedi were too detached and lost their way, but not free-thinkers like Qui-Gon, Dooku and Ahsoka" wouldn't really hold much water.

indeed my exact process once every 8 months or so
#I just thought today of a new way to format a 'profile' (like the descriptions of self that people use on friend meeting#apps and stuff) and how to organize the sections so that it seems such and such a way and oh what if there's links which click off#into branching paths so it's very acessible and there are two different forms depending on so on and so forth#and i was like 'um.. wow. amazing idea. this will be soooo aweseome and will definitely work' but then .. you know...self reflection#lol.. is this just like the millions of other iterations of a similar thing? No.. This Is Different ... Surely...#Though if I had a millionaire friend and a few people who do the type of coding you use for web design stuff and etc..#I could create the most elaborate detailed and amazing platonic friend seeking (and I guess you could also have 'dating' as an option#since that would draw in more of a crowd) website on the earth.. the new okcupid (back when okcupid didn't suckishly abandon their#whole format in hopes of trying to become just like tinder or whatever and they actually had like tons of info and percentages and#open answer questions and would list personality traits on a profile (like 'this person is more Open To New Expereinces than 65% of#other users' etc.). etc. etc. Oh what a beautiful thing I could craft for the detail freaks of the world.... Alas...#unfortunately we seem to be in an oversimplification era.. everything in short quick bites. everything on a tiny phone screen. etc.#marketing 'Introducing The Most Complicated Data Heavy Social Connection Site In The World' would not sell well I'd imagine gjhgjh#AANYWAY.. also no idea why the representation of me is in a turtle neck. what a bold fashion choice..#In another moment of self reflection.. the fact that in the first tag on this post I felt the need to define the word 'profile' just to be#specific as if people couldn't tell from context.. so clearly someone who finds filling out forms a 'fun afternoon activity' lol#the type of guy who finds psych evaluations and pop quizzes and making chore lists mostly enjoyable (< true)

I got an hourly planner and instead of planning out my day, I just write in it if I’ve done something that I’m proud of or that I enjoy, and it’s amazing how much I’ve gotten done lately and how much fun I’ve had now that I’m trying to impress myself.
