That's so true!!! I remember seeing a reader fic trashing amber but if we follow the canon ,mark is eve at the moment. Like they are literally doing mental gym to put amber into this. I don't justify her behaviour season 1 but she was trying to do better. I don't like to think about that but sometimes i ask myself if it's not just mysogynoir. Like Rex was the worst character being a asshole and a cheater but then turn a new leaf and everybody forgive him but amber doesn't get same treatment🙄.

literally that’s what it is misogynoir ( i believe that’s how you spell it don’t crucify me) and rex is a prime example. literally cheated and lied on eve plus was a dick oh but the moment he gets shot in the head and changes all is well.

when it comes to female character development (unfortunately especially black female characters) it is mostly ignored in favor of the male characters — especially the male lead.

i can’t count on one hand how many times i’ve argued with dude bros on my tiktok that just trash amber’s character, while simultaneously loving anissa.

i literally avoided watching invincible when it first came out because of the amber hate and i was so convinced she was the worst. actually watching you realize homegirl is seriously just a trouble teenager???

okay as a vegan who tries to be openminded let me take these one at a time

honey: OP you're 100% correct about the destructive impact of the agave industry. i have no intention of supporting that shitshow. youre also right about the honey industry not being cruel if good beekeepers are in charge (sidenote: honeybee/beekeeper partnerships are so cute!!! did you know that bees kept in good conditions will start to set aside a specific part of the hive to deposit honey where bees never go otherwise so that beekeepers can retrieve it with minimal disturbance??? they have a lil dropoff site it's so cute!!!) the problem is i don't trust major honey producers to be good beekeepers. i could buy from locally-kept honey farms that i was able to visit and verify the good conditions of, but as alyana pointed out the European honeybee is an invasive species in North America and does deep damage to the ecosystem as it edges out local pollinators. so until i can move to a place where the European honeybee is native, I've stopped eating honey or its alternatives. it's a flavor i miss but not one worth the ecological damage it causes.

wool: IT IS CORRECT that the modern domestic sheep grows an excess coat and if not regularly shorn will suffer symptoms of heat stroke and dehydration leading to death. HOWEVER most wool used for textiles comes from factory farms which are also unspeakably cruel to the sheep in their care. i simply can't support wool that i have not seen with my own eyes is sourced in a way that loves and respects the sheep involved, which means i can't buy wool fabrics from any large or even medium-scale distributor. if i knew a local shepherd and saw how they kept their flock, i would be happy to buy from them, but that's not feasible for me since i do not live in an area that's big for livestock agriculture. so i buy cotton fabrics. i know they're also destructive to the environment with current farming techniques, but i decided they're the least impactful of the options since factory-farmed wool is both cruel and destructive, whereas synthetic fabrics are both destructive AND fast fashion bullshit I'll need to replace in eight months.

eggs: almost entirely with you on this one!!! only thing I'll add is that modern domestic fowl have been bred to lay eggs at an unhealthy rate, which can lead some of them to have vitamin and mineral deficiencies (especially of calcium.) it's nothing that proper attentive care can't resolve but make sure whoever is providing you with eggs is giving their birds a nice well-rounded diet and that the birds seem healthy and in good spirits.

tl;dr I'm not against animal agriculture when it views the animals in question as equal partners and is respectful of the environment. unfortunately, it's so difficult to find animal agriculture that fulfills both those criteria. it's hard (dare i say impossible) to live without harming parts of the world around me, especially under capitalism, but i find that veganism is frequently the less impactful option. i also recognize that veganism does not exempt me from needing to be aware of the effect my consumption has on the world, and try to stay away from any consumption that is deeply, actively harmful.

Vegans of tumblr, listen up. Harvesting agave in the quantities required so you dont have to eat honey is killing mexican long-nosed bats. They feed off the nectar and pollinate the plants. They need the agave. You want to help the environment? Go back to honey. Your liver and thyroid will thank you, as well. Agave is 90% fructose, which can cause a host of issues. Bye.

no you have to contribute to your fandom if you don't want it to die. most fandoms die because people say 'it's so sad watching the fandom die when the hype dies' without doing anything about it. I'm not saying you have to push out 100k word slow-burn fic, I'm not saying you have to make fan art or gif sets or edits or anything. I'm just saying we as a community should contribute to our fandom if we don't want it to die, and by contributing, I'm talking about giving kudos, commenting on your favorite fics, reblogging your favorite art and just talking about your favorite characters. that's enough to keep a fandom alive. that's the most effective way to keep a fandom alive in my humble opinion.

fandoms die because people stop talking about it, fandoms die because people stop engaging with fan content once the hype is gone. what I'm saying is, mainstream media's hype may be gone, but our fandom can stay alive and thriving if us as a community don't let it die.
