"I don't listen to rap because I don't like rhythm based genres/I have auditory disabilities/It's all about violence and sex/etc"
You know what, at this point, I'm not gonna suggest listening to some rap starter pack. I'm just gonna tell yall not to listen to any kind of music that stems from Rap and other Black music genres. Because apparently yall can't handle anything
"Well I can still listen to Metal-" Nope
"I mean Tecno is still-" Nope
"But I love City Po-" Nope
"BUTILOVEROCKNROLLSOMUC-" Don't test me
".......K-po-" I will slap you
Want to know if your favorite music genre is part of the list, here's a guide
#music#black history month#i dont want to hear your tragic backstory of how you listened to DMX once and it made you loose control and spilled your milk

Exceptional X-Men #4 REVIEW
I've been singing the praises of Eve L Ewing and Carmen Carnero's Exceptional X-Men, so let's see what they manage to do now that the premise is established and they've got 5 main characters we're invested in. A benefit of establishing your characters early is that you get to focus on introducing plot elements, special guests, and complications - like serialised storytelling does. Uncanny is a good example of how a lack of focus early on weakens everything you try to do. It's hard to care about The Outliers or Nightcrawler when they feel like wallpaper, and now they're running around an event without knowing who they are. The stakes lay primarily with Rogue. Trista/Bronze is a fantastic example of this done right, and as you'll see we can explore plot developments that wouldn't make sense elsewhere. Spoilers ahoy, caveat emptor.

Trista gets a lot of focus which works because we know who she is and what she wants.
Due to Kate pushing back against taking these kids somewhere isolated for training, we get to see them try to live normal lives. Trista has friends outside the tiny mutant peer group, a crush, and an interest in theatre. She declared last issue that her goal is to not hurt anyone, and she's struggling with what people tell her to be and what she wants. She's a sweet kid, and I'd say there's a racial component to this dichotomy - how black kids are perceived and how they need to act to get by in a white supremacist world. That's outside my experience but I'm invested in how Trista deals navigates the issue. After all, being strong, kind, gentle and lovely aren't mutually exclusive
I hesitate to compare to Uncanny again, but they both have high school scenes and the difference is stark. Westinghouse College Prep is a real life school in Chicago (that Biggie, Jay Z, Busta Rhymes and DMX all went to) and it is ranked pretty highly nationally. According to its website it has 98% minority enrollment. Importantly, it feels like a real school in 2024 with real people attending it, and not just because it actually is one IRL. There's no need to reach for played out generic high school tropes when the characters feel like real people with real problems already - verisimilitude.

After a smash cut to Trista with a sentinel looming over her, we learn that Emma does a pretty damn good Danger Room analogue. Trista seems determined and in control at first, using her different powers in concert effectively. She does manage to Empire Strikes Back trip the Sentinel up, but wigs out when it falls on top of her, understandably. Emma calls it, and we see more proof of why she's considered good at training young mutants.

Bobby's entrance at the end of last issue felt like a cliffhanger by virtue of being on the final page, but I'm glad his presence doesn't derail the plot entirely. It's implied that some time has passed, maybe a week - enough time for Bobby and Trista to get to know each other and enough time for Bobby to feel Kitty is avoiding him. Trista picks up on his odd behaviour and asks Emma about psychic ethics, heh. Her answer is funny and sardonic while still getting the point across. Emma and Trista having one on one time tells us a lot about Emma's sincerity and the trust she's earned through good works.
The subtext of Trista's distraction is made text - she's preoccupied with the audition, her crush, and the fear of exposure/social rejection. While we know this already, or could guess, it's effective to have newer characters tell their story. What they say is as important as what they don't say or how they say it. She responds well to being listened to and positive reinforcement, accepting the reframing of the audition as an opportunity.

Bobby is definitely up to something and acting weird. His persona feels performative. He's explicitly faking bathroom usage to text privately, and while his texting is worded vaguely enough to not give much away, it does seem sinister. At minimum he is lying about why he's there. Kitty picks up on the same weirdness Trista did and she's really not having it. He doesn't have the vibes of a friend seeking or offering support, though Kitty isn't interested in either and tells him to leave. Idk if Bobby even has a home right now - he was living in Antarctica because ORCHIS poisoned him and he couldn't hold a solid form for long. He was back with Romeo last time we saw him but also didn't have a physical body. I can't blame the creators for not explaining that, I have to assume they're under the same editorial direction everyone else is.
Trista's warmup scene has excellent layout, with the other kids' faces in circles next to their supportive texts. It's a clever way of showing their faces in an issue they're mostly absent from, and it's a solid method of variety in an issue with more texting than most. Showtime!

Trista meekly introduces herself to the casting guy/director and he suggests that the lead might not be right for her. He's polite, though she's about to disagree when her mutant life and school life clash in an unexpected way. One of those yellow beasts from X-Force appears from a portal and grabs her crush. You don't need to have been reading X-Force, it's a big monster (that were confirmed to be appearing globally in that book) and it's here. Trista rallies and uses her training to bronze up and get her head in the game.

It's a dangerous situation but has a simple solution suited to Trista's skillset. She grabs it with her tentacle things, ties it up and yeets it through the portal. Her overcoming it with pure force or martial skill would be a bit silly, but by linking her training and the progress she's made with Emma to a simple solution, it feels like an appropriate and believable triumph. Strong yet gentle. Neutralizing the beast and protecting herself and others without using overwhelming violence. It's a very effective character beat and the support/adulation from the theatre people is earned. She nailed the audition, and gets offered her choice of parts, though interestingly she turns it down in favour of her training. The theatre folks show solidarity and swear to keep her mutanthood a secret.

Trista shows up to training and seems more confident, her posture showing strength and positivity. It looks like Bronze, Axo and Melee are all benefiting and even Kate manages a smile. Then she overhears Bobby on the phone while grabbing some equipment. It's not a good look.

What Bobby is saying is so weird that she's not even sure it's him. Kate phases her hand next to his heart and straight up threatens him. He explains that everyone is worried about her and she says she's choosing this life. He tries to bring up ORCHIS and she shuts it down, saying out loud that she killed people. A little too loud, it turns out.

The kids overhear and are horrified, understandably. They're really young and don't have the kind of life experiences that come with being an X-Man - of course they are! Tom Brevoort has made a lot of noise about the X-Men killing people in Fall of X, an argument that has ignored the nuance of being at war with genocidal fascists. The issue hasn't made it to the page in a meaningful way until now, and I couldn't be more impressed. Rooting the issue in Kate's trauma and shame - as something that terrifies the students she's trying to help and likely damaging the trust she's built - approaches it on a believable character level.
This is a big part of what caused Kate to hang up her Spandex and it's something she's going to have to reckon with. Add the kids' emotional and ethical reaction and you've got a fantastic cliffhanger with the promise of explosive drama.

Kate grabs Bobby's phone and it's Rogue on the other end. She doesn't look like she's at Haven or in uniform, so who knows what's going on there? They're clearly ahead of Raid on Graymalkin as Iceman is in league with them, as if that book needs more characters. Kate doesn't care and hangs up on her. I wasn't going to compare to Uncanny a third time, but if the two are crossing over it invites comparison. Kurt's glib comment about thinking he was a murderer felt trite and silly, next to the dramatic execution of Shadowkat's actions being confronted it looks downright amateur. Kate is clearly having a PTSD flashback or intrusive thought during this conversation - whereas it wouldn't work for Bobby or Emma to announce that she has PTSD, for example.
I do enough shitting on Uncanny's writing in my reviews of that book, my point is how well similar beats are executed in this book. Eve L Ewing and Carmen Carnero's Exceptional X-Men is aptly named and frankly, if you're not reading it you're missing out. We know all these characters well enough that we care about their reaction to this revelation. Kate looks like she's about to break down, and Bronze and Axo's body language is heartbreaking. Emma knows shit is about to hit the fan and she's surely aware she killed people in Fall of X too. That's how you do a cliffhanger. Issue #4 managed to do a Trista focus issue, some slice of life, excellent character work, and lit a fuse to explode next issue all in 20 pages.
Exceptional X-Men is fantastic and you should be reading it.

(k-pop idol AU anon) hewwo~ i'm back again ◝(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) ◜♡ first of all, YES TO GEUMJA BEING GIHUN'S MANAGER. YOUR GALAXY BRAIN! I LOVE IT! and you know youngsik said this in an interview and none of his bandmates believed him... you mean it's such a small world, that his mom was thee gihun's manager? sure, pal. but once he's proven right he will never shut up about it hahaha! oh and back then when geumja found out that her husband was cheating on her, you know gihun would 100% support her in beating up that good for nothing man ৻( •̀ ᗜ •́ ৻)
secondly, yes yes yes inho as a rapper! r&b and rap is an iconic duo. inhun giving aaliyah & dmx vibes~ anyways, let's continue where we left off~ ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧
i don't think inhun would be able to make things official during their tour. yeah they do feel the love and find comfort in each other, however everytime they're about to confess they're always interrupted by ilnam, the assistants, fans, or the stage crew. it saddens them both, but the show must go on... (˶˃⤙˂˶)
after this, gihun and inho try to keep contact as much as they can! this is the 90's so they have payphones or pagers/beepers. they can't meet in person because of the crazy paparazzi, and also the reputation of the record label must always be in focus. they feel very frustrated over having to repress their feelings. on top of all that, inho feels like he's going crazy whenever a award show host or a backup dancer gets way too close or comfortable with gihun. "unhand him, you heathens." he seethes (҂ `A´) ︻╦̵̵̿╤──. inho knows they're not even in a relationship, but that doesn't mean anyone can put their filthy paws on the world's most precious pearl named gihun. though... it appears that the heavens might have blessed them with a rare chance to finally see each other.
both guys were in the same building for song writing sessions and meetings, but they were in different rooms. they had no idea about this until they saw each other in the hallway. inho and gihun had to practically beg ilnam and geumja to let them spend at least 25 minutes together, they promise that nobody will know. inho and gihun brought up that if they can't get to release their pent up energies, it will impact their performances and the label's profits negatively. that's how the music executive and the manager agreed to let the two of them be for a while and do their thing lol
cue makeout session in a secluded corner ( ∩´͈ ᐜ `͈∩) inho holding on to gihun's waist for dear life, afraid of losing him again. whilst kissing they finally reveal to each their true feelings, a heavy weight lifting off their chests. they're boyfriends now! ♡〜٩( ˃▿˂ )۶〜♡ inho's hand travels down to gihun's crotch area, delighted to find his soft mound and getting to feel the puffy folds. right now they don't have much time and can't get too messy because of their schedules, but they're more than satisfied with almost devouring each other and handjobs. one day they will finally get to go on a short hiatus and take weeks off everything. they will find a private soundproof room and have marathon sex all day all night ( • ᴗ - ) ✧ gihun would still have to take birth control pills though, just to be safe.
but before that happens! they're making hits after hits, their little intimate session in the building proved to make them better at their job. they were glowing, too.
meow (≽^•⩊•^≼) tune in for part 3 in which it will be about gihun announcing his retirement from music industry in 2011-ish, followed by inho doing the same, them revealing their relationship to the world, and present day with our fave boygroup & girlgroup~
(also dw junho and inho's stepmom are very proud of inho, & so is gihun's mom. she points at the tv and smiles widely telling everyone; "that's my baby!")
STOP AS SOON AS U SAID THAT GIHUN WAS SINGING 90S R&B I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT OF AALIYAH!!! 😭😭😭
ahh i'm glad u liked it!!! 🫶💖 and omggg everything abt this is amazing, i loooooooove it 💖
inhun being in a secret AND forbidden relationship???? 😩
I CAN'T WAIT FOR PART 3!!!!! 😖😖 giggling and kicking my feet

Theatre-style lighting in a model of the Starship discovery bridge.
I loooove the visuals of disco--but all nutrek (since TOS) lacks that good Theatre-lense flaire. BRING BACK THE PINK AND GREEN HALLWAYS PARAMOUNT I'M BEGGING YOU.
Made in Vectorworks Spotlight and Capture with ETC EOS software.
I did not make the model! It was provided by an instructor. If I find credit (I am looking) I will post it here :)
this took me so fucking long not because it was particularly hard, lighting wise or technology wise, but because the fucking internet kept going out and destroying the connection between my capture window and the actual fixtures and fucked everything up. And when I re-entered their addresses I fucked up somehow (even though I imported directly from vectorworks and I don't have a universe limit, or any overlapping addresses--supposedly) and all the control parameters got FUCKED.
I would adjust the pan/tilt of one fixture, and a completely different fixture would change colors or intensity. Even after completely un-patching all the fixtures, checking their DMX footprint, remembering that capture calls addresses channels for some goddamn reason and fixing everything there, re-patching (TWICE), fully restarting capture, and completely re-doing the light import/export with a million different parameters like three times the lights were still misbehaving.
I ended up manually panning and tilting within the capture software mostly, even though hypothetically most of the fixtures could have done that themselves.
All I'm saying is that this shit would never happen in person with my beloved EOS GIO board and real actual tangible lights. but I can't light the starship discovery in person. so.
I'm pretty happy with how it came out. If even one singular person asks I'll post some of my other renderings/models I've lit for fun (i don't have many pics of the ones ive done. like. professionally lol)

Smart Automation in Stage Lighting & LED Fixtures: A Game-Changer for Live Events
In today’s world of live shows, concerts, weddings, and big corporate events, one thing has become super important: the lighting. But we’re not just talking about ordinary lights anymore. We’re talking about smart lights that can move, change color, follow people, and sync perfectly with music or video—all by themselves. This is called smart automation, and it’s changing the game in stage lighting and LED setups.
Let's have a look at what it is, how it operates, and why so many event professionals are making the transition.
What is Smart Automation in Lighting?
Smart automation refers to employing technology to automatically switch lights on and off rather than having to change them manually. With a single command or click, an entire lighting system can cycle through color change, move in sequence, or respond to audio. These systems can be pre-programmed or even programmed to change live during the event.
So, rather than someone at a lighting desk pushing buttons for every adjustment, the system recognizes what to do and executes it flawlessly each time.

How Does It Work?
To grasp smart lighting, a couple of straightforward tools behind the magic are:
DMX Control: It is similar to the vocabulary that lighting gear speaks to communicate with one another. This helps the lights, controllers, and other gear to coordinate with one another.
Wireless Control: Most smart systems today use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to communicate. Goodbye, cumbersome long cables everywhere.
Mobile or Remote Access: Lights can be accessed using a tablet or laptop. Some systems even support remote control from another room.
Sensors and AI: Motion sensors can make lights track an individual on stage. Artificial Intelligence can even recommend lighting effects depending on what's happening at the show.
Why Smart Lighting is a Top Choice
There are plenty of reasons that smart lighting is increasing rapidly:
Perfect Timing Every Time
Lights switch on and off exactly when they should—no delay, no error. Whether it's in the middle of a speech, a tune, or a dance, everything unfolds right on schedule.
Improved Creativity
Smart systems enable you to create fantastic scenes. You can achieve mood shifts, glowing effects, moving lights, and a lot more. All this can be achieved with just one touch of a button.
Saves Time and Effort
After programming the lights, they do the work on their own. You don't require a large group to operate them, thus saving lots of time at the time of setting up as well as during the event.
Works from Anywhere
Since it's wireless and remote-capable, technicians can update it in a snap, even when they're not on stage.

Real-Life Examples
You find yourself at a concert. The performer comes out onto the stage. The lights suddenly darken, a spotlight trails the performer, and flashing colored lights caper in the background—all tastefully in time to the rhythm of the song. That's intelligent automation at work.
Or maybe you’re watching a fashion show. As each model walks down the runway, the lights automatically shift to highlight them, while LED screens show matching colors and designs. It’s smooth, stylish, and all automated.
Good for Big Events AND Small Ones
The good news? Intelligent lighting isn't reserved for huge stadium concerts. Even smaller events such as school events, church services, or birthday parties can benefit from this technology. There are easy systems to get that are simple to learn and not expensive at all.
You can begin with a few smart LED lights and a simple controller or app. After getting comfortable, you can expand with more features in the future.
What to Remember Before Getting Started
If you're considering incorporating smart lighting, here are some key points to remember:
Check for Compatibility: Ensure that your lights and control systems are compatible.
Learn the Fundamentals: Simple programming can lead to huge differences.
Build a Solid Network: A stable wireless connection is crucial.
Stay Safe: Lights and trusses weigh or heat up—ensure proper installations.
And also, it's best to purchase your equipment at professional audio stores. They will advise you on what is best and provide you with quality equipment that performs better and lasts longer for your events and even installation and setup services so that buyers don't have to deal with the technicality.
What's Coming Next?
Technology is advancing quickly. Smart lighting's next big thing is interaction systems. These lights can adapt to the crowd's movement, respond to the noise of clapping or cheering, and even adjust to the mood of a space. Some lights can be operated with voice commands or motion detectors.
Artificial Intelligence is also joining the party—there are systems that learn from run-throughs and can adjust the lighting for the next show automatically. Stage lighting in the future is promising and bright.
Before You Go
Intelligent automation of stage lighting and LED light fixtures is more than a bells-and-whistles upgrade—it's an intelligent investment for anyone producing live events. It gets your show to look more professional, conserves time, and permits greater creativity.
Whether you are organizing a concert, wedding, school play, or corporate event, intelligent lighting enables you to provide an unforgettable experience for your audience. With some planning and proper equipment, you can enhance your lighting game to the next level. So if you're organizing your next function or just wanting to upgrade your setup, it's a good time now to look at smart lighting. It's simpler than you might imagine—and it's worth it.

My full video of the Tampa Ritual \o/ Yes, I'm insane for recording the whole thing, but also I couldn't really see through the head of the guy in front of me so I'm glad I held my phone over my head for an hour and a half. Audio quality is better than the video quality as I was quite zoomed in, but it sure is the whole show.
Show highlights, in my opinion:
it's very silly, but Vessel, iii, and iv all standing with their backs to the crowd at the end of TNDNBTG was just very cool, to me. cool guys don't look back at the explosions etc etc
also silly, but watching Adam run around stage taking pictures was fun
just. the way the crowd screams when iii and iv (but especially iii) come out onto the stage, and every time they come back out. iii sure is the master of crowd control and the crowd adores him for it
Vessel's barking during The Offering, because me too bestie it's a fun verbal stim (also all I can think of is the Letterkenny bit about DMX barking)
Vessel's screams in general, I'm not typically a fan of harsh vocals but he sounds soooo fucking good live
ii raising/holding out his arms, gesturing at the audience, making what looked like prayer hands, etc. I've seen videos of him doing that but never realized how much he did it, he's so interactive back there and I feel like a lot of the time he isn't paid attention to and/or can't be seen behind the kit
I feel like iv was doing a lot of spinning!! again it might just be bc people usually seem to focus their videoing on Vessel and iii but I wasn't expecting iv to spin as much as he did, and it was fun to watch!
iv was also hanging out on the little stand the keyboard was on for a lot of the time, it was very cute when him and Vessel were playing together up there
Atlantic. Jesus Christ. I was tearing up not only from the song but from the amount of blue lights in the audience, which the video does NOT do justice (I realize in hindsight, it's because I was so zoomed in, I wasn't capturing the full view of the stands)
watching the Espera grooving, especially during the beginning of Hypnosis and the breakdown in The Summoning, they looked like they were loving it as much as the crowd was
The beginning of Alkaline, good god. The camera drifts because I was so entranced by Vessel's stage presence that I wasn't looking at my phone for a while. The way he pulls the mic away from his face and kinda hisses on the end of desire.... I am unwell. I can't tell if you can actually see his fucking grin in this video or if it's just the lights on his face, but if you haven't seen the closeup vid someone else posted of this moment, please track it down. I've been compromised.
Missing Limbs. Fuck. I was crying. Everyone was crying. The way he sings the "without you lying next to me" and "like I've got missing limbs" broke my fucking heart. I adore this man. (bonus: you can hear me saying hell yeah at the beginning bc my bestie @/vacationbiblestudy came back from the merch booth with a shirt for me! he's the one that says "it's pretty" lol)
I'm not gonna lie, I kinda rolled my eyes at the INSANELY noticeable increase in crowd response at the beginning of Chokehold, and then again at the beginning of every TMBTE song, but honestly? The TMBTE portion of the show was genuinely my favorite. All of the songs went so fucking hard. Vessel's voice just got better and better as the show went on, idk how the hell he does it. He started the show amazing and ended the show phenomenal. Witchcraft.
The Summoning. Everything about the Summoning. It wasn't my favorite when I first heard it, but it grew on me, and god it fucks SO severely live. It's incredible. Vessel's voice, his screaming, the Espera dancing, Vessel squatting down to examine iii's playing (and the way he stands up stock straight afterward?? lmao), the DRUM SOLO!!!! and the way everyone waits for Vessel to do the damn Will Smith pose by ii and just screams for him on command, the way Vessel carried the "bad" in "make a good girl bad" god damn, everything.
iii got a mosh pit during Granite, maybe one day he'll get a real wall of death, but at least he got something lmao
the rain sound effects during Rain are really amped up live, and combined with the lights it's just so atmospheric and beautiful
Ascensionism live ALSO fucks severely. I'm surprised the camera wasn't a lot more shaky with how much I was straight up throwing ass. And the lights looking like stars against the ceiling of the stadium was so pretty, even though it didn't translate well in video. And I know I already mentioned ii's hand motions, but especially during Ascensionism, from "my redemption, eternal ascension" until the drums kick back in, ii was FEELING IT back there and I was having so much fun watching him
The bucket hat situation during TMBTE lmao I need to get a clip of just that bit and post it separately. Someone threw the hat on iii's side of the stage while the lights were down and iii was over on iv's side of the stage, and when iii came back he just picked the hat up and immediately put it on. He wore it for a while, then put it on Vessel, who also wore it for a while before just. throwing it on the fucking ground LMAO and then he proceeded to, essentially, dance around it until the song ended and a crew member threw it back out into the crowd
EUCLID!!!!!!!! GOD. GOD. I was getting teary eyed and then the way Vessel sang "do you remember me" just broke the dam and had me sobbing. iii getting the crowd clapping and then stopping them because they weren't on rhythm, and making them start again, iii wearing Sleep Token Mickey ears???? THE NIGHT BELONGS TO YOU!!!! and Vessel literally on his fucking knees for the whole end of the song 😭😭😭😭 and again, Adam in the bg taking pictures (god I hope they get posted at some point)
THIS GOT A LOT LONGER THAN EXPECTED............... THE WHOLE SHOW WAS A HIGHLIGHT. The fact that you can't hear me singing along, or screaming, is a highlight, because I absolutely fucking was. The whole show was fucking incredible, 100000/10, would recommend until I'm blue in the face, worth every goddamn penny I spent and ounce of financial stress the trip put me in. I will never fucking forget it. Especially since I have video evidence lmao
#sleep token#teeth of god tour#videos#i'm emotionally compromised!#I was handing out bracelets on the way out of the show so if you got a bracelet with black/white/red/gold glitter beads then hi!#i got one bracelet one keychain and $5 in return lmao but giving them out was so much fun it was worth all the time I spent on them#especially the person who said they never get offered things. if you're out there. i love you. i wanted to hug you.#i also never get offered things and that was why i wanted to make things and give them out#yeah I was kinda hoping to trade more and get more keepsakes but!!#the amount of people who sounded so disappointed when they said they didn't have anything to trade and then got so excited#when i said they could still have one?? honestly better memories than any keepsake#if i gave you a bracelet i love you and hope you got home safe and if i didn't get to give you one i hope i get the chance again one day!#Youtube

Cross (2024) is compelling, you certainly crave to know what happens in the next episode. I binged 7 episodes in a row.
Aldis Hodge does a good job of giving this cartoon level detective (he's suave, musical, rich, ripped, smarter than everyone, wearing designer suits to his cop job where he's also pro reforming the police, good father, good lover) some grounding.
The story is just too much: too sprawling, too many plot lines, too hard to suspend disbelief. It turns from a gritty realistic show into a gonzo cartoony mess by episode 8 and I'm not sure where it takes the turn. We go from your basic catching a serial killer while dealing with grief to a serial killer who targeted a defund the police activist (which turns out to be irrelevant), a stalker, the wife killer, the serial killer enabled by half of DC elite, snipers, crooked cops committing murders, a house with a bank vault and secret tunnels, two houses with vaults and secret tunnels, years long revenge plots, a romance, kid problems, committing police brutality and being exposed, friendship fall out...
I wanted to root for this so bad, a Bosch-type show led by Hodge had serious potential but this isn't it. I really enjoyed his work in Parallel 2024 but he doesn't have the story on his side here. The soundtrack is excellent, if you ever wanted a fight scene set to DMX, it's here.
---- edit
I feel like I should explain, I really enjoyed the first half of this show, it has a memorable villain, a wild henchman, a great brotherly and messy friendship, one of the best final girls I've seen in a while... I was only really let down by the over the top storytelling in the final episodes along with the writing of Alex's inconsistent tempers or loss of control - they seemed to happen in order to have plot beats not because something hit deep and set him off. It's partly because the first part of the show reels you in so well then the end part, well, just beefs it. The interesting underlying messages of the show are also tossed asidenor minimized in favour of more plot.
It's still a thrilling ride.

How to Choose the Right DJ Lighting for Small, Medium, and Large Venues
When it comes to creating an unforgettable DJ performance, sound is only part of the equation. Lighting plays a critical role in setting the mood, energizing the crowd, and enhancing the overall experience. Whether you’re performing at a small party, a medium-sized wedding, or a massive event venue, the right lighting can make all the difference.
But how do you choose the perfect lighting setup for venues of different sizes? This blog breaks it down for you, providing tips and guidance to help you select the ideal DJ lighting for small, medium, and large venues.
Why Lighting Matters
Before diving into specifics, let’s talk about why lighting is essential. A well-designed lighting setup:
Enhances Atmosphere: Lights can transform a plain room into a vibrant, dynamic space.
Captures Attention: Proper lighting directs focus to key areas, such as the DJ booth or dance floor.
Boosts Energy: Flashing, color-changing, and moving lights can create an energetic environment that keeps the crowd engaged.
Whether you’re hosting an intimate gathering or rocking a massive venue, lighting is your secret weapon to elevate the vibe.
Small Venues: Keeping It Simple and Impactful
Small venues, such as house parties, coffee shops, or small clubs, typically don’t require an elaborate lighting setup. Here’s what to keep in mind:

1. Compact and Portable Equipment
Since space is limited, prioritize lightweight and portable lighting fixtures. Consider options like LED par cans, small wash lights, or a basic laser projector. These are easy to set up and don’t overwhelm the space.
2. Focus on Key Areas
In small venues, less is more. Highlight the DJ booth and the dance floor with focused lighting to create an intimate yet lively ambiance.
3. Add a Splash of Movement
A small moving head light or a simple sound-activated lighting effect can create motion without being overbearing. Pair this with a fog machine for added drama.
Always test your lights in advance to ensure they’re not too bright for the space. Small venues can quickly feel over-lit, which can ruin the vibe.
Medium Venues: Striking a Balance
Medium-sized venues, like banquet halls or larger clubs, give you more room to experiment. The key here is balance—creating a dynamic experience without overwhelming the space.
1. Layer Your Lighting
A layered approach works best in medium venues. Use a mix of wash lights for overall ambiance, spotlights to highlight key areas, and effect lights for movement and excitement.
2. Utilize Zones
Divide the venue into zones:
Dance Floor: Prioritize dynamic lights like moving heads and strobe lights to keep the energy high.
Seating Areas: Use softer, static lights to maintain a relaxed atmosphere.
DJ Booth: Make this a focal point with an eye-catching lighting setup, like color-changing LED strips or uplights.
3. Sync Lights with Music
Consider investing in DMX-controlled lighting to synchronize your lights with your music. This adds a professional touch and keeps the crowd engaged.
4. Don’t Forget the Ceiling
Using lights that project patterns or colors onto the ceiling can make the space feel bigger and more immersive.
Large Venues: Go Big or Go Home
Large venues, such as concert halls, outdoor festivals, or massive ballrooms, demand a lighting setup that matches their scale.
1. Power and Coverage Are Key
In large spaces, your lighting needs to be powerful enough to reach every corner. Opt for high-powered moving heads, large wash lights, and high-output lasers.
2. Create Depth with Layers
To prevent the space from feeling flat, layer your lighting:
Front Lights: Illuminate the DJ and performers.
Overhead Lights: Use trusses to mount moving lights and strobes for an overhead spectacle.
Backlights: Add depth and dimension by placing lights behind the DJ or stage.
3. Embrace Special Effects
Large venues allow for creative freedom. Incorporate effects like CO₂ jets, confetti cannons, or large-scale projection mapping to wow the audience.
4. Plan for Outdoor Challenges
If you’re working outdoors, ensure your lighting is weatherproof and powerful enough to compete with ambient light from the environment.
Always work with a lighting plan or diagram for large venues. This ensures your lights are strategically placed for maximum impact.

General Tips for Choosing DJ Lighting
No matter the venue size, keep these universal tips in mind when choosing DJ lighting:
1. Know Your Audience
Are you performing for a laid-back crowd or a high-energy dance party? Tailor your lighting to match the vibe.
2. Consider the Venue’s Characteristics
Every venue is unique. Consider the height of the ceilings, the layout, and the existing lighting when planning your setup.
3. Test and Adjust
Always test your lights before the event. This allows you to make adjustments and troubleshoot any issues.
4. Prioritize Quality
Investing in quality equipment ensures durability, better performance, and a more professional look. Purchasing from a professional audio shop not only guarantees quality but also provides expert advice tailored to your specific needs.
The Importance of Proper Setup
Even the best lighting equipment won’t deliver the desired effect if it’s not set up correctly. Take the time to position your lights strategically and experiment with angles, brightness, and colors to find the perfect balance.
Conclusion: Light Up the Night
Choosing the right DJ lighting for small, medium, and large venues doesn’t have to be daunting. By understanding the unique needs of each space and following these tips, you can create a visually stunning experience that complements your music and captivates your audience.
Whether you’re lighting up an intimate gathering or a massive crowd, remember that lighting is an art form. With the right tools and a bit of creativity, you can transform any venue into an unforgettable spectacle. So, step into the spotlight and let your lighting skills shine!
